The authors of the article have developed and proposed for use a new environmentally safe organic dust suppressing compound. The article presents an overview and analysis of the most common organic dust suppressants , describes their features and characteristics. Methods for determining the adhesive properties of solutions have been studied, a proprietary technique has been proposed, and a stand has been developed for assessing the adhesive properties of dust-suppressing solutions applied to dusty surfaces of highways. The adhesion ability of environmentally safe dust control solutions, which have a natural basis and are used for dedusting linear and area sources of dust formation, was evaluated and analyzed. It was found that ginger oil has the lowest adhesion capacity (225.8 Pa), the highest is an aqueous solution of beet molasses (414.9 Pa).

Samples of graphite-like carbon nitride g-C
3 N4 are synthesized via the thermal annealing of urea in air at temperatures of 450–600°C. The relationship between the structural and morphological features of the material and the parameters of intrinsic luminescence is studied. Dependences of characteristics of photonic emission on the types of excitation and modes of synthesizing thermally polymerized g-C3 N4 structures are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Epitaxial grown thick layers ([greater than or equal to]100 [[micro]meter]) of high resistivity silicon (Epi-Si) have been investigated as a possible candidate for radiation hardened material for detectors in high-energy physics. As grown Epi-Si layers contain high concentrations (up to 2[multiplied by][10.sup.12] [cm.sup.-3]) of deep levels compared with that in standard high resistivity bulk Si. After irradiation of test diodes by protons ([E.sub.p] = 24 GeV) with a fluence of 1.5[multiplied by][10.sup.11] [cm.sup.-2], no additional radiation induced deep traps have been detected. A reasonable explanation is that there is a sink of primary radiation induced defects (interstitial and vacancies), possibly by as-grown defects, in epitaxial layers. The 'sinking' process, however, becomes non-effective at high radiation fluences ([10.sup.14] [cm.sup.-2]) due to saturation of epitaxial defects by high concentration of radiation induced ones. As a result, at neutron fluences of 1[multiplied by][10.sup.14][cm.sup.-2] the deep level spectrum corresponds to well-known spectrum of radiation induced defects in high resistivity bulk Si. The net effective concentration in the space charge region equals to 3[multiplied by][10.sup.-12] [cm.sup.-3] after 3 months of room temperature storage and reveals similar annealing behavior for epitaxial as compared to bulk silicon.

The silicon pixel tracking system for the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider is described and the performance requirements are summarized. Detailed descriptions of the pixel detector electronics and the silicon sensors are given. The design, fabrication, assembly and performance of the pixel detector modules are presented. Data obtained from test beams as well as studies using cosmic rays are also discussed.

- Abstract
The ATLAS SemiConductor Tracker (SCT) is a silicon-strip tracking detector which forms part of the ATLAS inner detector. The SCT is designed to track charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN at an energy of 14 TeV. The tracker is made up of a central barrel and two identical end-caps. The barrel contains 2112 silicon modules, while each end-cap contains 988 modules. The overall tracking performance depends not only on the intrinsic measurement precision of the modules but also on the characteristics of the whole assembly, in particular, the stability and the total material budget. This paper describes the engineering design and construction of the SCT end-caps, which are required to support mechanically the silicon modules, supply services to them and provide a suitable environment within the inner detector. Critical engineering choices are highlighted and innovative solutions are presented - these will be of interest to other builders of large-scale tracking detectors. The SCT end-caps will be fully connected at the start of 2008. Further commissioning will continue, to be ready for proton-proton collision data in 2008.

- Abstract
A model which explains the characteristic distortions of the spectral lineshape of a Si detector during the recording of heavy ions is proposed. The appearence of a group of pulses in the right-hand (high-energy) region of the amplitude spectrum is associated with nonequilibrium-charge recombination. The recombination occurs in the skin layer of the detector structure, where charge transfer occurs by diffusion. The amplitude of the signal fluctuates because of the participation of Si recoil atoms, which generate electron-hole pairs at specific cross sections of the "input-window" of the detector. Heavy particles directly produce ionization uniformly over depth, which results in definite losses of charge but is not accompanied by appreciable fluctuations.
