7. Al 2 O 3 Thin Layer Formed inside Porous Membrane Using Spray Synthesis Method and Its Application.

Abstract

Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) films have been investigated for use in various applications, and numerous deposition techniques have been reported. The spray synthesis method has the advantage of forming a thin layer of crystal at low temperatures using the appropriate precursors. A precursor prepared by diluting Methylaluminoxane with N-methyl pyrrolidone was sprayed onto a porous membrane while varying conditions such as the substrate temperature, feeding speed, and spray amount. The solution penetrated the film during spray application, and the ultra-thin layers deposited on the side wall of the internal pores were observed using a cross-sectional transmission electron microscope (XTEM). The lattice image obtained using the TEM and the composition analysis conducted using a scanning TEM and an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscope suggest that this thin layer is a layer of Al2O3. The formation of Al2O3 occurred at lower temperatures than in previous reports. This is a major advantage for applications with low-melting-point materials. The most suitable spraying conditions were determined based on the state of deposition on the surface and inside the membrane. These conditions were applied to a three-layer separator for lithium-ion batteries and their effect on thermal stability was investigated. Through heating experiments and XRD analysis, it was confirmed that the shrinkage and melting of the separator are suppressed by spraying. Abstract

Depositions are conducted on monolayer porous membrane at 50 °C by spray pyrolysis using methylaluminoxanes diluted with N‐methylpyrrolidone. The solution penetrates the film during spraying and the ultra‐thin layers are deposited on the side wall of internal pores. It is suggested that these layers are fine polycrystalline of Al2O3. In the obtained film, most of the pores are exposed on the surface and there is no increase in film thickness. Further, the ionic conductivity is the same as that of the received film, and the thermal stability is improved. This method can be an effective technique for improving the function of the separator used in the lithium‐ion batteries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the suppression of ATP diphosphohydrolase/CD39 in human vascular endothelial cells by constructing stabled 25-base antisense chimeric oligonucleotides targeting sequences at the 5' region of CD39. Results indicate that loss of ATPDase activity, following suppression of CD39 sythesis may result in decreases in extracellular adenine nucleotide hydrolysis.

37. K-ras codon 12 mutations in biliary tract tumors detected by polymerase chain reaction denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis

Abstract

Background. Although the prevalence of K-ras codon 12 mutations in biliary tract (BT) tumors has been addressed in previous studies, the results have shown large discrepancies in mutation frequency. Methods. K-ras codon 12 mutations were investigated by polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), a sensitive method for detecting DNA base changes, in a large series of BT tumors. Results. In A-549 cells, which are known to contain a G to A change at the first base of K-ras codon 12, the mutation could be detected by DGGE even after 1:16 dilution with normal DNA. Tumor samples were microdissected from paraffin embedded tissue sections to ensure the presence of the tumor cells. K-ras mutations were detected in 13 of 23 bile duct tumors (56.5%) and in 9 of 23 gallbladder tumors (39.1%) by DGGE. However, no mutations were detected in normal, hyperplastic, and dysplastic BT epithelium or in tumorlike lesions, such as adenomyomatous hyperplasia, cholesterol polyps, and cystitis glandularis proliferans. The samples exhibiting abnormalities on DGGE showed a base change at K-ras codon 12 when examined by oligonucleotide hybridization. Conclusions. K-ras codon 12 mutations are seen often in BT tumors, and a combination of microdissection and PCR-DGGE is an effective approach for their detection. Cancer 1994; 73:2727-33.

Abstract

Non‐doped ZnO thin films are deposited on glass by spray pyrolysis using Diethylzinc diluted with diisopropyl ether. The droplet impacts are observed and the structural properties of films are studied as deposition temperature dependence. The shape of a droplet impacts changes from a hemisphere to a flat plane with increasing the deposition temperature. The images of cross sectional transmittance electron microscopy show granular non‐crystalline for RT (room temperature) sample and columnar polycrystalline for 150 °C sample as shown on the right‐side. The growth mechanism of ZnO thin films is discussed by considering the relationship between the shape of droplet impacts and the morphology of the deposited films. Also, the presence of the crystal formed by precursor is suggested for the films deposited at lower temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
