The title molecule, C25H23BrN2O2, adopts a cup shaped conformation with the distinctly ruffled imidazolidine ring as the base. In the crystal, weak C-HO hydrogen bonds and C-H...π(ring) interactions form helical chains of mol- ecules extending along the b-axis direction that are linked by additional weak C-H π(ring) interactions across inversion centres. The Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from HH (51.0%), CH/HC (21.3%), Br...H/ HBr (12.8%) and OH/HO (12.4%) interactions. The volume of the crystal voids and the percentage of free space were calculated to be 251.24 ų and 11.71%, respectively, showing that there is no large cavity in the crystal packing. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide and has the most lethality ratio for females among all cancers. Although current cancer therapeutics have made considerable advancements, there is still room for improvement in terms of efficacy. Many anticancer drugs have a risk of causing serious adverse effects due to their nonspecific cytotoxic effects on both tumor and healthy cells. New therapeutics might have a greater ability to kill cancer cells, reduce the volume of tumors, and improve overall therapy response rates. Herein, we report the efficient synthesis and characterization of three amphi vic-dioximes and their six novel mono-, which are extremely rare in platinum chemistry, and bisplatinum(II) complexes for breast cancer treatment. Antitumoral activities of Pt(II) complexes have been investigated on CCD-1079Sk healthy fibroblast cell line, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cell lines. Cytotoxicity, cell cycle, and apoptotic assays were performed. All new Pt(II) complexes exhibited selective antiproliferative effects on breast cancer cells by showing less cytotoxicity to healthy cells than known anticancer drugs cisplatin and bicalutamide. In vitro studies show that these new Pt complexes have high anticancer and antiproliferative effects and may be new alternatives to existing anticancer drugs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper includes the synthesis of new imidazolidine-4-one and thiazolidine-4-one derivatives derived from 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) butyric acid (1) by multistep reaction, the first step synthesis ester (2) by the esterification reaction of 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) butyric acid with ethanol in the presence of sulfuric acid. Ester namely ethyl 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) butanoate (2) was converted to the corresponding 4-(2,4-dichloro phenoxy)butane hydrazide (3) by reaction with hydrazine hydrate after those hydrazones (4a-f) derivatives were obtained by the reaction of carboxylic acid hydrazide (3) with various substituted aromatic aldehydes, this hydrazone were used to synthesize some new heterocyclic compounds by the hydrazones (4a-f) with Phenyl Alanine and thioglycolic acid to prepare imidazolidine-4-one(5a-e) and thiazolidine-4-one (6a-d) compounds respectively. The molecular docking study was carried out with the essential enzyme Insulin (PDB 1i144) responsible for Diabetes, suggesting that (4a-e) are the most active derivatives of the series that is responsible for diabetes, for some of the compounds that were prepared in this study. It was found that compounds (4a-e) are the most active derivatives. All newly synthesized compounds in this study were confirmed by physical and spectral (FT-IR, ¹H NMR, and 13C NMR) analysis. The imidazolidine derivatives were prepared via [1 + 1] condensation of various aldehydes such as 2-Hydroxy benzaldehyde, 2-fluoro benzaldehyde, 2-chloro benzaldehyde, pyridine-2-carbaldehyde, pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde, thiophene-2-carbaldehyde, furan-2-carbaldehyde with N,N′-bis((pyridine-2-yl)methyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (L) in the solvent of acetonitrile and characterized by the appropriate spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, UV–Vis, molar conductivity, 1H and 13C NMR, EI-Mass, X-ray). By coordinating the imidazolidine ring to the metal ions, this ring can be stabilized or hydrolyzed and converted to initial materials. Therefore, in this research, to investigate the effect of imidazolidine ring pressure and the effect of different groups in neutralizing this pressure in coordination with manganese(II) ion, the Manganese(II) complexes of these compounds were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV–Vis spectroscopy, molar conductivity, EI-Mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography. The spectroscopic data for the imidazolidine derivatives confirm their formation. The manganese(II) complex of these compounds showed that the imidazolidine ring was unstable due to coordinated and created pressure on the imidazolidine ring and the presence of different groups on the ring does not affect the stability. Formaldehyde is a simple chemical compound that is used as a building block in obtaining a wide range of products. The versatility of formaldehyde in chemical synthesis becomes evident when it is reacted with N-alkylethylenediamines. Therefore, this paper reports the structure and reactivity of a series of compounds derived from easily accessible molecules, such as formaldehyde, sodium hydrosulphide, and N-alkylethylenediamines. The 1,3,5-triazines (1a-1d) and bis(3-alkyl-imidazolidin-1-yl)methanes (2a-2d) were obtained by simple reaction conditions. Additionally, different proportions of sodium hydrosulphide and formaldehyde were used with N-benzylamine to obtain N-benzyltriazinane (3), N-benzylthiadiazinane (4) and N-benzyldithiazinane (5). All these compounds were characterized by analytical, spectroscopic, and spectrometric techniques, such as melting point, solubility, one-dimensional and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (13C, 1H, 15N, COSY, HETCOR, NOESY, COLOC), elemental analysis, high- and low-resolution mass spectrometry, among others. The structures of compounds 4 and 5 were obtained by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results show that small variations in the stoichiometry and the reaction conditions significantly influence the products obtained.

In this work, the two novel methods were achieved for the preparation of benzil derivatives 2a--f with high yields and short reaction time from benzoins 1a--f via; (i) their refluxing with a mixture of sulfur and morpholine in ethanol, and (ii) their stirring with oxidizing agent "DMSO-NaBr-H2SO4 system" at 85 °C. Thus, a new series of (5-oxo-4,4-diarylimidazolidin-2-ylidene)cyanamide 3a--f was already synthesized from the reaction of benzils 2a--f with commercially available cyanoguanidine in the presence of sodium ethoxide as a basic catalyst. The discovery of new catalytic applications for metals remains an important goal in organic synthesis. If a catalyst has multiple functions, such as inducing bond cleavage and formation, it can streamline multi‐step transformations. Herein, the Cu‐catalyzed synthesis of imidazolidine through heterocyclic recombination between aziridine and diazetidine is reported. Mechanistically, Cu catalyzes the conversion of diazetidine into the corresponding imine, which then reacts with aziridine to form imidazolidine. A highly efficient and straightforward synthetic methodology has been established for the preparation of imidazolidine derivatives through the [3 + 2]‐annulation of cyclic N‐sulfimines. This reaction involves the reaction of cyclic N‐sulfimines and γ‐sulfonamido‐α,β‐unsaturated carbonyl compounds, with Cs2CO3 serving as the catalyst. The outcome is a diverse range of imidazolidine derivatives with remarkable yields and stereoselectivities. In addition, the [4 + 2]‐annulation between cyclic N‐sulfimines and δ‐sulfonamido‐α,β‐unsaturated carbonyl compounds, catalyzed by Et3N, has been successfully applied for the synthesis of stereoselective hexahydropyrimidines. Furthermore, the base‐catalyzed annulation of cyclic N‐sulfimines with γ‐ and δ‐hydroxy‐α,β‐unsaturated carbonyl compounds has proven to be a reliable method for the synthesis of oxazolines and 1,3‐oxazinanes. The first asymmetric synthetic method for enantioenriched 1,3‐oxazinane and hexahydropyrimidine derivatives via the asymmetric [4+2]‐annulation of cyclic N‐sulfimines has been established. The reaction of cyclic N‐sulfimines with δ‐hydroxy‐α,β‐unsaturated ketones afforded a wide range of enantioenriched polyheterotricyclic 1,3‐oxazinane derivatives in high yields with good to excellent enantioselectivities in the presence of a cinchonidine‐derived squaramide catalyst. This approach has been extended to the asymmetric organocatalytic [4+2]‐annulation of cyclic N‐sulfimines with δ‐NHTs‐α,β‐unsaturated ketones providing enantioenriched hexahydropyrimidines. In addition, the asymmetric [4+2]‐annulation of δ‐hydroxy‐ and δ‐NHTs‐α,β‐unsaturated ketones gave their corresponding enantioenriched 1,3‐oxazinane and hexahydropyrimidine derivatives with different absolute configurations. Herein we report a copper-catalyzed synthesis of imidazolidine by employing the reaction of aziridine with imine. The reaction smoothly provided a diverse range of 2-substituted imidazolidines with high compatibility with various functional groups. Moreover, during our investigation, we discovered that isocyanate also reacted with aziridine to yield substituted imidazolidinones efficiently. The versatility of these reactions was further demonstrated by their application in the synthesis of hybrid molecules derived from two pharmaceutical compounds. This approach opens new possibilities for the discovery of novel classes of bioactive molecules.

An enantioselective [3+2] cycloaddition of donor‐acceptor aziridines with N‐aryl protected imines was developed with a Ni(ClO4)2 ⋅ 6H2O/N,N′‐dioxide catalyst system, providing a broad range of chiral trans‐substituted imidazolidine compounds with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99 % yield, up to 98 % ee). Control experiments indicated that the products could offer excellent diastereoselectivities with the control of chiral Ni(II)‐N,N′‐dioxide complex and the interaction of the substrates. As an intermediate in the synthesis of pesticide imidacloprid, imidazolidine is easily blended in imidacloprid products, which will lower the purity of the latter, thus affecting the using effects of it. The cooling crystallization method was used to study the distribution of imidazolidine. Taking the imidazolidine removal rate and partition coefficient as assessment criteria, the effect of the cooling rate, final crystallization temperature, crystallization time and addition of seed crystal on the migration of imidazolidine between liquid and solid phases was systematically studied, as well as the separation effect and product quality were evaluated. It was found that imidazolidine was most distributed in the solid phase at a higher cooling rate and a higher final crystallization temperature. The optimal process conditions for cooling crystallization were reached at the cooling rate of 0.2°C/min, the final crystallization temperature 15°C, the crystallization time of 5 h and the addition of seed crystal of 1%, under which the imidazolidine would remained in the liquid phase as much as possible. This study included synthesis of new serotonin derivatives in which imidazolidine rings are present in their structures. The final imidazolidine derivatives compounds were synthesized by reaction of synthesized Schiff bases derivatives of serotonin with the glycine (NH2-CH2COOH) in presence of tetrahydrofuran (THF) as a solvent. The imidazolidine derivatives were identified by physical characteristics, FT-IR spectroscopy and 1H- NMR spectroscopy. Biological activities against two Gram negative (Klebsiella and E. coli) and two Gram positive (Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria were also distinguished. All the synthesized compounds III(a-d) exhibit moderate activities on four types of bacteria comparing with the activity of standard drug (Trimethoprim) but the highest activities of these compounds occur on Streptococcus pyogenes and their least activities occur on E. coli. In many industries, safe organic inhibitors that are soluble in corrosive media, environmentally friendly, and effective need to be developed for protection against corrosion during descaling and steel pickling in dilute acids. In this work we describe, for the first time, the effects of 2-(nitromethylene) oxazolidine (OXA) and 2-(nitromethylene) imidazolidine (IMD) as inhibitors of the corrosion of SAE 1020 steel in 0.1 mol L−1 HCl aqueous solution. Electrochemical analyses showed that the IMD inhibitor was most effective, acting as a mixed type inhibitor. SEM analysis confirmed the electrochemical results, clearly showing the excellent corrosion inhibition effect of IMD. The corrosion inhibition was related to the protective film deposited on the surface, forming a layer that reduced the corrosion reactions. DFT calculations showed that donor and acceptor interactions between the heterocyclic nitrogen lone pair electrons and the vacant d orbitals of the metal surface atoms could explain the better corrosion inhibition values obtained for IMD. Finally, in addition to its efficiency, in silico toxicity predictions indicated that IMD could be considered environmentally friendly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Eco-friendly synthesis of ethyl 3-(4-oxo-3-(1-(pyridin-3-yl)ethylideneamino)-2-thioxoimidazolidin-1-yl)propanoate (4) ligand (L) using microwave irradiation technique was described. The structure of thioxoimidazolidine derivative ligand compound has been established based on different types of analyses such as infrared, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and mass spectra as well as elemental analysis. The copper, cobalt, and nickel(II) complexes with molecular formula [M(L)(H2O)4]Cl2 (where M = Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II), L = thioxoimidazolidine derivative ligand), have been prepared and well-characterized using microanalytical, conductivity measurements, magnetic, spectroscopic, and physical analyses. Upon the outcome results of analyses, the stoichiometry of the synthesized complexes is 1:1 (M:L). The molar conductance values concluded that the behavior of metal complexes was electrolytes. The 3-(4-oxo-3-(1-(pyridin-3-yl)ethylideneamino)-2-thioxoimidazolidin-1-yl)propanoate chelate acts as a monovalent bidentate fashion via nitrogen and oxygen atoms of both thioxoimidazolidine and propanoate ester moieties. The geometric structures of the synthesized metal complexes are an octahedral configuration based on spectroscopic and magnetic moment studies. The thermogravimetric assignments deduced that the presence of four coordinated water molecules. The synthesized copper(II), cobalt(II), and nickel(II) complexes were biologically checked against G+ and G- bacteria and two species of fungi (Aspergillus Nigaer, and Penicillium Sp.).

The synergistic inhibition mechanism of imidazolidine (IM) with sodium lauryl polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (SLPES) for the corrosion of Q235 steel in H 2 SO 4 solution was systematically studied by experimental and theoretical methods. The results show that there is a synergism between IM and SLPES with a maximum inhibition efficiency of 94.5 %. IM/SLPES retards both anodic and cathodic reactions to more extent as compared with IM or SLPES. SEM, AFM, CLSM and XPS reveal that IM/SLPES can form a denser inhibition film on steel surface through the co-adsorptions of IM and SLPES, which can also well be elucidated by theoretical calculations. A novel series of (5-aryl-4-oxoimidazolidin-2-ylidene)cyanamides was successfully synthesized via the reaction of arylglyoxal hydrates with cyanoguanidine through benzilic rearrangement mechanism. The reaction was also optimized by changing various reaction factors for endeavor to increase the yield of the target product and reduce the by-product 1-cyano-3-(2-oxo-2-arylethylidene)guanidine formation. The formation of imidazolidines from secondary amines and aldehydes is well known. This small cycle can act as a nitrogen donor, and it is usually stable when it coordinates to metal ions. Sometimes, imidazolidines acting as ligands undergo breaking of the C-N bond when coordinating to the metal center, yielding related amines. However, the reorganization of the imidazolidine into a piperazine ring is quite an unusual process. In this work, we describe the transformation of a zinc complex with a ligand containing two imidazolidine moieties into a zinc complex with a piperazine fragment as donor, in the presence of a dysprosium salt.

The reaction of equimolar amounts of pyridoxal and 1,2-propylenediamine leads to the formation of monoimine, which exists as a cyclic imidazolidine tautomer. The latter reacts with aromatic aldehydes to form unsymmetric bisazomethines. The reaction of azomethine with phenylisocyanate produces a compound containing a carbamate group, and the reaction with hydrochloric acid leads to the formation of a salt-based furopyridine. The title compound, C21H16N2O2, consists of an imidazolidine unit linked to two phenyl rings and two prop-2-yn-1-yl moieties. The imidazolidine ring is oriented at dihedral angles of 79.10 (5) and 82.61 (5)° with respect to the phenyl rings, while the dihedral angle between the two phenyl rings is 62.06 (5)°. In the crystal, intermolecular C—HProp...OImdzln (Prop = prop-2-yn-1-yl and Imdzln = imidazolidine) hydrogen bonds link the molecules into infinite chains along the b-axis direction. Two weak C—HPhen...π interactions are also observed. The Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H...H (43.3%), H...C/C...H (37.8%) and H...O/O...H (18.0%) interactions. Hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions are the dominant interactions in the crystal packing. Computational chemistry indicates that the C—HProp...OImdzln hydrogen-bond energy in the crystal is −40.7 kJ mol−1. Density functional theory (DFT) optimized structures at the B3LYP/6–311G(d,p) level are compared with the experimentally determined molecular structure in the solid state. The HOMO–LUMO behaviour was elucidated to determine the energy gap.

The bidentate oxoacetate derivative of 4-oxo-2-thiazolidine 4ligand (L1) synthesized by the reaction of 1-(1-(Pyridin-3-yl)ethylideneamino)-2-thioxoimidazolidin-4-one 3 with diethyl oxalate with both traditional and microwave irradiation methods. The metal ion complexes of mixed ligands L1 and L2 (acetonitrile) were prepared by condensation a solution mixture of Co(II) Ni(II), and Cu(II) metal chloride salts with the ligands (L1 and L2) in distilled water with stirring. The complexes were characterized by the micro analysis (C, H, N), chloride content, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectra, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), molar conductivity as well as magnetic susceptibility measurement. According to the obtained data the suggested coordination geometries of these complexes were suggested as octahedral structure. All the synthesized complexes were found to be electrolyte due to the presence of chloride ions outside the coordination sphere. The antibacterial activity of the L1 ligand and their metal ion complexes have been studied by screening against various microorganisms, G+ bacteria (Bacillus subtillis, Streptococcus pneumonia, and Staphyloccoccus aurease), G-bacteria (E. coli, and Pesudomonas Sp.) and fungi (Aspergillus nigaer, and Penicillium Sp.). Compounds with propargylamine moiety are useful synthetic precursors of several important classes of nitrogen-containing heterocycles. The title compound, methyl (2E)-3-[3-benzyl-2-(3-methoxy-3-oxoprop-1-yn-1-yl)-2-(1-naphthyl)imidazolidine-1-yl]acrylate, has been prepared by domino-reaction, employing easily available 1-benzyl-2-(1-naphthyl)-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazole and methyl propiolate in a high 92% yield. The structure of title compound was determined using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV, FT-IR and HRMS (High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry).

A number of nitrogen heterocyclic derivatives, namely 1,3-thiazole and imidazolidine-2-thione, have been synthesized and their structures confirmed by IR, 1H and 13C NMR, and mass spectra. Cytotoxic activity of some synthesized products has been tested against human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell line using the MTT assay. The most potent anti-proliferative agent demonstrates activity 2-fold higher than the reference compound doxorubicin. Three compounds have been characterized by IC50 value against VEGFR-2. The cell cycle analysis of compound 6 has demonstrated cell cycle arrest at G1 phase and accumulation of cells in pre-G1 phase indicating that cytotoxic activity proceeds via apoptotic pathway. Two derivatives of Iimidazolidin 4-one (IMID4) and Oxazolidin 5-one (OXAZ5), were investigated as corrosion inhibitors of corrosion carbon steel in sea water by employing the theoretical and experimental methods. The results revealed that they inhibit the corrosion process and their %IE followed the order: IMID4 (89.093%)  OXAZ5 (80.179%). The %IE obtained via theoretical and experimental methods were in a good agreement with each other. The thermodynamic parameters obtained by potentiometric polarization measurements have supported a physical adsorption mechanism which followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Quantum mechanical method of Density Functional Theory (DFT) of B3LYP with a level of 6-311++G (2d, 2p) were used to calculate the geometrical structure, physical properties and inhibition efficiency parameters, in vacuum and two solvents (DMSO and H2O), all calculated at the equilibrium geometry, and correlated with the experimental %IE. The local reactivity has been studied through Mulliken charges population analysis. The morphology of the surface changes of carbon steel were studied using SEM and AFM techniques. Structure of the product of imidazolidine (1,3,5,7-tetra-tert-butyloctahydro-1H,4аH-imidazo[4ʹ,5ʹ:5,6]dioxino[2,3-d]imidazole) ether cocrytallization with 1,3-di-tert-butylimidazol-2-one and 1,3-di-tert-butylimidazolin-2-ylidene was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The research includes the preparation of new heterocyclic imidazolodine-4-one derivative,starting from 2- hydroxy-5-((4-nitrophenyl)diazenyl)benzaldehyde (F1). This work involved the synthesis and identification of imidazolodine-2- one derivative (F2) from the Schiff base derivative(F1). These compounds were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and the Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectrum. The biological activity of the Imidazolidine derivative was also investigated by the thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide (MTT) cytotoxicity test on the LS -174T colorectal adenocarcinoma cells,the African green monkey kidney (VERO) cells and the assessment of the concentration that inhibits the growth of 50% of cell viability (IC50). Doxorubicin (DOX) and 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) were also used for comparative goals. The results showed that Imidazolidine derivative was effectively and significantly inhibited the cell proliferation (p<0.00001) by decreasing the viability of LS -174T cells at different concentrations, which involved 1, 10, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 μg/ml, with a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 54.406μg/ml. The DOX and 5-FU IC50 values were 63.140 μg/ml and 55.006 μg/ml, respectively. In this study (4-imidazolidine-4-one) derivative of naproxen was prepared and diagnosed, while the structural formula of this compound was confirmed using the (H-NMR, FTIR,13C-NMR) spectrum. (12) Rabbits of close weights were divided into two groups, the first group is the control group which consists of (4) Rabbits and the second group is the group that was injected with the compound, which was prepared and the number of (8) Rabbits. The first group was given the control group solvent (DMSO), the second group was injected with the compound (AB) and the dose (50 mg / kg) of body weight per rabbit. After 2 hours of the dose, a blood sample was drawn from each rabbit and the plasma was separated. A biochemical and enzymatic study of the variables was carried out. The measured variables included the activity of enzymes (cholinesterase, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase) and serum cholesterol concentration. The study proved that the compound has significantly inhibited the cholinesterase activity and can be used in the treatment of patients with Alzheimer's disease and increase the amount of neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Inhibiting cholinesterase inhibits the breakdown of the neurotransmitter and thus will perform the stimulation of the nervous system naturally, and effectively the compound did not significantly affect the activity of the enzyme glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase, while the cholesterol level in the rabbit serum had a significant effect.

Candidiasis is one of the most serious microbial infections in the world. One of the main virulence factors for Candida albicans is the crucial secretion of aspartic proteases (Saps). Saps are hydrolytic enzymes that play a major role in many fungal pathophysiological processes as well as in many levels of the associations between the fungus and its host. In this work, we report on the synthesis, characterization, and anti-candida agent evaluation of a family of 13 imidazolidine-based aspartate protease inhibitors. In vitro and in silico enzyme inhibition studies have confirmed these compounds' ability to inhibit fungal aspartate protease. Based on the molecular mechanistic value scores from molecular docking and MD simulations, we selected the top compounds 5b (binding energy -13.90 kcal/mol) and 5m (binding energy -12.94 kcal/mol) from among 5a-l based on the molecular mechanistic value scores from molecular docking and MD simulations for use in in vitro validations. In the results, imidazolidine derivatives showed strong aspartic protease inhibition activity. In conclusion, compounds 5b and 5m were found as potent anti-candida agents and screened for further pre-clinical and clinical validations., (© 2024 Wiley-VHCA AG, Zurich, Switzerland.)

A neutral bis(imidazolidine)pyridine (PyBidine)‐CoCl2 complex showed catalytic activity for the Michael reaction of malonates with nitroalkenes. The title compound, C21H16N2O2, consists of an imidazolidine unit linked to two phenyl rings and two prop-2-yn-1-yl moieties. The imidazolidine ring is oriented at dihedral angles of 79.10 (5) and 82.61 (5)° with respect to the phenyl rings, while the dihedral angle between the two phenyl rings is 62.06 (5)°. In the crystal, inter­molecular C—HProp···OImdzln (Prop = prop-2-yn-1-yl and Imdzln = imidazolidine) hydrogen bonds link the mol­ecules into infinite chains along the b-axis direction. Two weak C—HPhenπ inter­actions are also observed. The Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H···H (43.3%), H···C/C···H (37.8%) and H···O/O···H (18.0%) inter­actions. Hydrogen bonding and van der Waals inter­actions are the dominant inter­actions in the crystal packing. Computational chemistry indicates that the C—HProp···OImdzln hydrogen-bond energy in the crystal is −40.7 kJ mol−1. Density functional theory (DFT) optimized structures at the B3LYP/6–311G(d,p) level are compared with the experimentally determined mol­ecular structure in the solid state. 5-Phenyl-2-[(6-acetylpyridine-2-ylethylidene)hydrazino]thiazole 4 and 1-[(6-acetylpyrid-ine-2-ylethylidene)amino]-2-thioxoimidazolidine-4-one 6 are synthesized by cyclization of 1-[1-(6-acetylpyridin-2- yl)ethylidene]thiosemicarbazide 2 with phenacyl(ω)bromide or ethyl chloroacetate in the presence of fused sodium acetate. Reaction of compounds 2, 4, and 6 with acetic anhydride gives N-triacetyl derivative 3 and N-acetyl derivatives 5 and 7. Treatment of compound 6 with 4-methoxy benzaldehyde yields the corresponding carbanol derivative 8. Structures of the synthesized heterocyclic compounds are characterized by EI-MS and NMR spectroscopy. Three imidazolidine derivatives, namely, 1, 4-diazaspiro [4, 5] decane (DSD), 6-methyl-1, 4-diazaspiro [4, 5] decane (MDSD) and 2-methyl-2-phenethyl imidazolidine (MPI) have been synthesized and investigated herein as novel corrosion inhibitors for API 5L X60 steel alloy in 1 M HCl solution using electrochemical techniques (OCP, EIS, LPR and PDP) complemented with quantum chemical calculations. At room temperature under naturally aerated conditions, the imidazolidine derivatives do not alter the corrosion mechanism of the steel alloy but greatly enhance the resistance to the acid corrosion by strongly lowering the capacitance of charge at the steel-solution interface. This results in increase resistance to charge transfer leading to decrease in both anodic and cathodic half-reactions. The imidazolidine derivatives functioned as mixed-type inhibitors during the electrochemical acid corrosion of the steel. MPI with an alkylphenyl substituent exhibited the highest corrosion inhibition efficiency and the attachment of a methyl group to the cyclohexyl substituent of DSD provided improved efficiency than MDSD. Quantum chemical descriptors such as the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital (, the energy of the lowest occupied molecular orbital (, the energy gap , dipole moment (, electronegativity , global hardness , softness , fraction of electrons transferred , and electrophilicity index have been calculated and discussed.
