Pollution by active ingredients is one of the most significant and widespread forms of pollution on Earth. Medicines can have a negative impact on ecosystems, and contamination can have unpredictable consequences. An urgent and unexplored task is to study the Lake Baikal ecosystem and its organisms for the presence of trace concentrations of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Our study aimed to conduct a qualitative analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients, and quantitative analysis of ibuprofen in endemic amphipods of Lake Baikal, using methods of high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS). Acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), ibuprofen, acetaminophen, azithromycin, dimetridazole, metronidazole, amikacin, spiramycin, and some tetracycline antibiotics were detected in the studied littoral amphipods. We also detected different annual loads of active pharmaceutical ingredients on amphipods. Using the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode mentioned in GOST International Technical Standards, we detected molecules, fragmented as amikacin, chlortetracycline, doxycycline, oxytetracycline, dimetridazole, metronidazole and spiramycin. Truffles are one of the least studied groups of fungi in terms of their biological and biotechnological aspects. This study aimed to isolate truffle-inhabiting fungi and assess the metagenomic communities of the most common Russian summer truffle, Tuber aestivum. This study is the first to characterize the biodiversity of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms living in the truffle T. aestivum using molecular analysis and sequencing. Plant pathogens involved in a symbiotic relationship with truffles were identified by sequencing the hypervariable fragments of the 16S rRNA and 18S rRNA genes. In addition, some strains of fungal symbionts and likely pathogens were isolated and recognized for the first time from the truffles. This study also compared and characterized the general diversity and distribution of microbial taxa of T. aestivum collected in Russia and Europe. The results revealed that the Russian and European truffle study materials demonstrated high similarity. In addition to the truffles, representatives of bacteria, fungi, and protists were found in the fruiting bodies. Many of these prokaryotic and eukaryotic species inhabiting truffles might influence them, help them form mycorrhizae with trees, and regulate biological processes. Among the diversity of microorganisms, the rarest and least explored are microorganisms that live in conditions of high oxygen in the environment and can experience the effects of natural oxidative stress. Here we suggest that the actinobacteria of Lake Baikal, sampled in the littoral zone, may produce natural products with antioxidant activity. The current study aimed to assess the effects of experimentally increased amounts of oxygen and ozone on the morphology of actinobacteria, DNA mutations, and antioxidant potential. In this experiment, we cultivated actinobacteria in liquid culture under conditions of natural aeration and increased concentrations of dissolved oxygen and ozone. Over a period of three months, bacterial samples were collected every week for further analysis. Morphological changes were assessed using the Gram method. A search for DNA mutations was conducted for the highly conserved 16S rRNA gene. The evaluation of antioxidant activity was performed using the DPPH test. The biotechnological potential was evaluated using high-resolution liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry approaches supplemented with the dereplication of natural products. We demonstrated the synthesis of at least five natural products by the Streptomyces sp. strain only under conditions of increased oxygen and ozone levels. Additionally, we showed morphological changes in Streptomyces sp. and nucleotide mutations in Rhodococcus sp. exposed to increased concentrations of dissolved oxygen and oxidative stress. Consequently, we demonstrated that an increased concentration of oxygen can influence Lake Baikal actinobacteria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
