International audience; This paper first reviews data collected from 1976 to 2013 regarding the life histories of members of the main E1 study group of bonobos (Pan paniscus) in Wamba. The E1 group exhibited strong tendencies toward female dispersal and male residence during the entire study period, thereby exemplifying the typical characteristics of a male-philopatric and female-dispersal society. This pattern did not change after the abandonment of artificial provisioning. We then present two new cases of immigrant females, focusing especially on social association patterns, dominance relationships, and affiliative interactions during the approximate 2.5 years from the time of their immigration to their first birth. These females began engaging in social grooming with resident females immediately after their arrival but rarely did so with adult males, suggesting that they regard social bonding with females as more important than that with males. They also emigrated at a young age and frequently engaged in social play. Indeed, social bonding established through frequent social play may be related to the development of socially symmetrical relationships, which are the basis for the egalitarian bonobo society. Intragroup competition for food and mates was unlikely explanations for the tendency toward female dispersal. However, male residence and the risk of father–daughter incest may encourage female transfer among bonobos

International audience; This paper introduces an edited volume. The papers presented here all deal with discourses and images of migrants and migration in the context of the atlantic world during the nineteenth and twentieth century. The first part of the paper shows the ubiquity of gendered stereotypes and images across time and space. The volume however, partly because the authors draw on a variety of visual sources some of them produced by migrants shows the diversity of images and representations relating to any migration stream. Représentations of migrants appear therefore produced within contested, and political fields that needs, to be analyzed strong contextualization.; Ce texte introduit un ensemble d'études, réunies en volume, qui explorent, dans une perspective historique les images, les récits, les discours accompagnant les migrations de masse qui ont pour cadre l'espace atlantique au cours des dix-neuvième et vingtième siècle. Il met en avant la persistance dans la longue durée, de tropes, d'énoncés ou de figures, fréquemment réutilisés au sein des sociétés hôtes et qui souvent expriment l'infériorité sociale des populations migrantes. Les textes rassemblées cependant, dont les auteurs explorent des gisements de source jusque là peu utilisées, iconographiques et visuelles en particulier, permettent de constater la diversité des discours et des représentations mises en circulation en un même contexte, ce qui renvoie tant à la diversité des locuteurs qu'à celle des contextes d'énonciation. La production des représentations, toujours genrées, des migrants et des migrants se révèle alors champ de forces et lieu d'une analyse politique qui ne peut qu'être fortement contextualisée.
