A method based on an emancipatory research paradigm is more sensitive and useful in evaluating urban-policy. Current methods are incapable of influencing the lives of the people, who are beneficiaries of urban-policy programs. Their evaluation techniques, based on foundationalist science, overlook the genuine needs of the people and are too insensitive to generate a productive relationship between researchers and the communities.

Rowley's comment offers a partial view of industrial restructuring in the British pottery industry and is too dismissive of recent theoretical developments in industrial geography. The bounded time frame of his analysis weakens his substantive criticisms of my paper and his own research has little by way of an historical referent to comment on the transformative nature of industrial restructuring in the industry.

This paper provides a review of recent changes in buyer-supplier relations. We comment on the apparently changing nature of industrial transactions and the move towards a new model of buyer-supplier relations based on closer interfirm collaboration, quality assurance, and flexible delivery systems. In distinction to those who claim a break has been made with past industrial practices, our review of the fragmentary evidence indicates that the adoption and implementation of new buyer-supplier relations is, at best, partial. We also comment on some of the constraints which are inhibiting the development of buyer-supplier practices.

A problem for disabled people, particularly individuals dependent on the use of a wheelchair, is housing that is not easily usable due to physical barriers. A proposed solution by government is the adoption of lifetime homes (LTH) standards that are likely to become mandatory for all newly constructed dwellings in the private sector in England by 2008. It is, therefore, an appropriate time to take stock of LTH standards, and to evaluate to what extent they are able to address the problems for disabled people caused by physically inaccessible housing. In doing so, the article provides a critique of LTH standards, and suggests that while they are, in some respects, a positive development, they are not, in and of themselves, a panacea in relation to rectifying the shortfall of accessible dwellings. The paper describes and evaluates the theoretical underpinnings of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), and develops the proposition that its conceptual framework provides a coherent, if uneven, guide through the competing conceptions of disability. To date, however, there has been little evaluation of the theoretical efficacy of the ICF. In seeking to redress this, the paper develops the argument that the ICF fails to specify, in any detail, the content of some of its main claims about the nature of impairment and disability. This has the potential to limit its capacity to educate and influence users about the relational nature of disability. The paper develops the contention that three parts of the ICF require further conceptual clarification and development: (a) (re)defining the nature of impairment; (b) specifying the content of biopsychosocial theory; and (c) clarifying the meaning and implications of universalisation as a principle for guiding the development of disability policies. The elevation of plasma immunoreactive gastrin known to occur during the induction of adjuvant-induced arthritis (Rooney et al., 1973) has been shown to be maximal at 7 days after injection. Gastrin administered exogenously accelerated and exacerbated the inflammatory joint disease.
