The article exposes the public policy of closing the border of the Dominican Republic against the Haitian population since 1937, a situation that has been beneficial for global corporations that have increased their profit margins by taking advantage of the context of poverty, violence, and racism experienced by the Haitian population. The case of the textile corporation Compagnie Développement Industriel (CODEVI) is studied, which has placed an industrial site on the Haitian-Dominican border line. Methodologically, an anthropological and geographical study was carried out, consisting of interviews and visits to both workers and company officials, in addition to a documentary review of the economic policy of both countries and the legislation regulating transnational corporations. In this way, the creative political, legal, technical, and territorial devices used to exploit cheap Haitian labor are exposed, evidencing the national and racial segregation imposed by the textile company. It is concluded that this system of labor exploitation generates great economic profits in exchange for a minimal investment that does not contribute significantly to overcome the extreme poverty experienced by workers living in the impoverished Haitian border town of Ouanaminthe.

Today, the textile industry stands out for its global economic contribution. However, its expansion brings growing concern due to environmental impact and massive generation of highly polluted wastewater. These waters, originating from the textile industry, host a wide range of harmful organic compounds, including dyes, persistent chemicals, heavy metals and other elements, representing a significant environmental challenge and a significant risk to aquatic ecosystems and human health. This article focuses on the application of bioremediation and biosorption as essential methods to address the problem of water pollution from the textile industry. These methods have emerged as promising and sustainable solutions to this growing concern, offering significant progress in water pollution mitigation and a hopeful outlook for the sustainable development of the textile industry. Its proper and continued implementation can lead to more responsible and environmentally friendly practices to degrade and eliminate pollutants using microorganisms effectively.

Purpose: This article aims to analyze the influence of the organizational climate on the absorptive capacity. Design/Methodology/approach: The survey is characterized as descriptive and quantitative. The employed method is a survey, applied through the virtual platform Google Forms. The sample consisted of 172 respondents from five manufacturing units of a textile industry, being collected by accessibility and convenience. Multiple regression analysis was used to process and analyze the data. Findings: The research shows that hypotheses H1a, H1c e H1d are confirmed, a favorable organizational climate influences the absorptive capacity through proper management of internal relationships, effective leadership, and renowned organizational image. On the other hand, the H1b hypothesis was rejected, organizational climate did not show interference in the absorptive capacity through professional development in the confirmatory test. Originality/relevance: The significance and contribution of this study lie in addressing an observed gap in the analysis and evaluation of absorptive capacity. Specifically, it explores how organizational climate management practices interrelate with this concept, thereby shedding light on related themes. Practical implications: The study allows managers of organizations to understand which organizational climate management practices should be prioritized in the absorptive capacity, thus contributing to the creation of an environment conducive to the transfer of knowledge, that is, combining prior knowledge with the new knowledge. Objective/Context: This study has two main goals. First, it explores the structural and organizational dynamics of the textile industry and the market in early modern India, eighteenth-century Gujarat in particular. In this context, the paper also examines how the ascendancy of the English East India Company in the political economy of Western India and the region’s transition to a colonial economy impacted the industry, the market, and the relationship between weavers and merchants. Methodology: This paper draws on the literature on textile production and trade, as well as on capitalism in early modern and colonial India, and uses evidence about Gujarat from the records of the English and Dutch East India Companies. Originality: This paper argues that the relationship between weavers and merchants in Surat/Gujarat was dynamic, complementary, and at times, contentious. None of them was able to dominate the relationship, and the English East India Company could not substitute a coercion-based production relation for a market-based one. Conclusions: The dynamics—such as product specialization and innovation, division of labor, the contract system, and forward buying—point to the existence of commercial capitalism in the textile economy. The paper also argues that because of the extraordinary diversity of people engaged in the industry and their varying professional and transactional experiences, it is relevant to recognize that commercial capitalism represents a mode of production that co-existed with others in the economy. RURAL industries , *TEXTILE industry , *MANUFACTURING industries , *TEXTILE finishing , *MIDDLE Ages - Abstract
The industrial facilities in the Middle Ages had among their main protagonists the fulling mills within the fundamental sector of textile manufacturing. In the kingdom of Aragon there was still no specific study on this type of mills since they began to spread in Europe from the 13th century until reaching the Modern Age. This article covers this gap with new documentation that extends to more than sixty the number of draper mills located in thirty Aragonese municipalities. Some unpublished inventories allow us to know what was inside these buildings. The comparison with the 125 fulling mills that have also been identified in Aragon in the mid-19th century highlights the strength that rural industry had in medieval times far from urban centers. REVERSE logistics , *SUPPLY chains , *MANUFACTURING processes , *TEXTILE industry , *CIRCULAR economy - Abstract
Reverse logistics is a process within the supply chain that mediates a solution to prevent the deterioration of the environment; as well as the use of production processes and market supply in the face of excess inventory, returns, reconditioning, among others. In order that they can be reused to generate value again before an adequate management of planning, execution and control. This research aims to review the relationship between reverse logistics and the environmental impact it has on the textile industry and how, with the implementation of innovative practices, they allow recovering or extending the value of the product or material. The systematic review is developed with the Tranfield methodology with 25 documents selected from databases (Scopus and Web of Science), where the different reverse logistics approaches (Strategic, operational and support) are analyzed using STROBE declaration sheets. As a result, the synthesis of employee practices in this industry was obtained, which provides a reference and practice guide to be incorporated into the Colombian textile industry. TEXTILE waste , *WASTE recycling , *CIRCULAR economy , *WASTE management , *SOIL pollution , *RECYCLED products , *SUSTAINABILITY - Abstract
The new Law 7/2022, on Waste and Contaminated Soils, introduces important changes in terms of textile waste, a sector that has traditionally received less attention in terms of the volume and management of waste produced. The textile industry is, in fact, the fourth most polluting in terms of waste volume and, in addition, it has been increased by the social practice of fast fashion employment. Due to the aforementioned, the European Directive ((EU) 2018/851) which modifies Directive 2008/98/EC on waste is of particular importance. This new Directive obliges the Member States to the selective collection of textile waste before January 1st, 2025, and to establish objectives related to the preparation for reuse and recycling of this waste. This will have an impact on the entire textile value chain as it will be necessary for companies to start designing and preparing their products to contain recycled material and to allow its recycling. The new tendencies in the management of textile disposables promote an increase in public awareness about consumption practices as well as the co-responsibility of producers and users. The management of textile waste, whose main destination is the social economy, will have to promote technologies for the recovery of surpluses to reintroduce these materials into the consumption process, thus favoring the circular economy and sustainability.

The textile industry causes several environmental impacts, and the largest portion of synthetic dyes manufactured worldwide is destined for textile production. Only 50 to 70% of the amount of dyes applied is fixed in the textile materials, configuring a major problem of pollution and waste. Thus, new methods for the treatment of these residuary waters are being developed, focusing on an efficient removal of dyes. The development of this work aims to broaden the discussion and deepen the technological alternatives for the treatment of textile effluents from a bibliometric survey, using the software VOSviewer. The research revealed an emphasis on treatments based on adsorption, advanced oxidative processes and bioremediation. Furthermore, with regard to the countries of origin of the publications, a leadership from India was observed, which is among the largest textile producers in the world. Consequently, it is concluded that the results obtained contribute to a comprehensive and consistent view regarding the theme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article analyzes the actions of Tomé's textile entrepreneurs in its economic, political, and social expansion towards the local community during the first four decades of the 20th century, looking for possible answers about the purpose of this behavior, inserted in a process of productive readjustment of workers through industrial paternalism. In this way, the entrepreneurs with insertion policies and mainly financing public works linked to urban transformation, expand the classic dynamics of employer control towards a new area of influence and dominance, integrating the local community as a new subject receiving their paternalistic practices.

- Abstract
Over time, cities grow and change, making industrial buildings that were once outside the city now inside, or industrial buildings that were built very close to residential areas because there were no regulations to regulate it. All this causes that today we find industrial buildings inside the city that have ceased to have an industrial use for being too close to residential areas and we are trying to find a new use for these buildings, some of these buildings have an architectural or cultural importance and it is sought to maintain them as heritage buildings and to give them a new use. This work seeks to make a comparative study of three industrial buildings in Barcelona that have been given a new library use in order to find some guidelines to follow when transforming industrial buildings into libraries. To do this, it will look for what conditions are most necessary in a library from the beginning of the first libraries, and then analyze how these needs are met in three industrial buildings converted into libraries. In the second part, the three libraries will be presented within the context of Barcelona, and will be analyzed to find out which strategies have been used and how they are adapted to the needs of a building intended for use as a public library. Finally, the differences or similarities in the strategies to adapt industrial buildings to the conditions of libraries will be compared.

- Abstract
This study presents fibers based on methacrylic acid–methyl methacrylate (Eudragit L100) as Cu(II) adsorbents, resulting in antimicrobial complexes. Eudragit L100, an anionic copolymer synthesized by radical polymerization, was electrospun in dimethylformamide (DMF) and ethanol (EtOH). The electrospinning process was optimized through a 22 -factorial design, with independent variables (copolymer concentration and EtOH/DMF volume ratio) and three repetitions at the central point. The smallest average fiber diameter (259 ± 53 nm) was obtained at 14% w/v Eudragit L100 and 80/20 EtOH/DMF volume ratio. The fibers were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy in attenuated total reflectance mode (FTIR-ATR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The pseudo-second-order mechanism explained the kinetic adsorption toward Cu(II). The fibers exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity (qe) of 43.70 mg/g. The DSC analysis confirmed the Cu(II) absorption, indicating complexation between metallic ions and copolymer networks. The complexed fibers showed a lower degree of swelling than the noncomplexed fibers. The complexed fibers exhibited bacteriostatic activity against Gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. This study successfully optimized the electrospinning process to produce thin fibers based on Eudragit L100 for potential applications as adsorbents for Cu(II) ions in aqueous media and for controlling bacterial growth, This research was funded by “National Council for Scientific and Technological Development– CNPq” for financial support (grant 305579/2023-1). “This study was financed in part by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior-Brasil (CAPES)-Finance Code 001”.
