2022 opened with World War C, the first major cyber world war. Wanting to capitalize on history in the making, Information Systems faculty are integrating real time events to increase student engagement, comprehension, and application of IS concepts. This paper outlines a successful midterm evaluation pivot that leverages current events. We discuss two different actions taken and objectives, outcomes, and implications for teaching and educational research. We find that incorporating extreme current events motivates students towards self-learning and creative knowledge outlets, which in turn stimulate greater comprehension, application, and retention across the entire class.

Since ChatGPT exploded onto the scene in October 2022, the media has been breathless with their discussion about how it is going to impact many aspects of life and work. In order to bring this new reality of generative AI into the "Introduction to Management Information Systems" classroom at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, we have developed two short cases that can be completed in or out of the classroom. These cases allow students to use generative AI for an interesting and useful purpose and develop prompts to deliver the output. Students can begin to learn what generative AI can do for them, and how it can shape their future careers. We tested the perceived effectiveness of the project on students using a pre/post survey. The results are analyzed using a paired t-test and demonstrate that students increased their understanding of generative AI and prompt engineering.

Modern digital technologies are advancing rapidly, driving transformative changes. For Information Systems (IS) educators, maintaining curricula that prepare graduates for the digital economy is imperative. This study developed a knowledge pool of 121 common keywords in digital transformation through literature review and investigated their application in the titles and descriptions of 4,093 IS courses across 315 undergraduate programs in the United States. The findings illustrate how IS educators conceptualize the digital transformation within the IS discipline and incorporate it into curricula. Additionally, the results offer insights for educators aiming to develop course content on digital transformation and update IS undergraduate curricula to align with the demands of modern enterprises in the era of digital transformation.

In response to the adoption of Agile practices and processes by businesses, IT/IS educators are working to add Agile content to their courses. Teaching students about Agile involves teaching them about the history, mindset, and values of Agile, along with an introduction to the practices and processes used in an Agile product. Along with this, it is essential that students gain experience using Agile in a project setting. This paper discusses an Agile practice project where students use all aspects of Agile to address a problem and build a solution using Legos. The use of Legos, along with a project that students can easily see themselves using, the practice project allows students to focus on developing their Agile skills and mindset. The project serves as a useful transition from traditional classroom instruction about Agile to a project for a real-world client.

The academic success of first-year students' learning in science faculties is by no means assured, especially in an Open Distance Learning setting with its limited number of face-to-face encounters between students and lecturers or tutors. Therefore, such encounters should be highly efficient in view of the considerable amount of knowledge transfer to students. The University of South Africa (Unisa) makes provision for contact sessions of 15 hours per semester for selected modules in an attempt to elevate the pedagogical efficiency of these sessions by focusing on the threshold concepts as an innovative way of learning. This paper shows that tutorials adopting the threshold concepts approach have the potential to make students academically more successful. The focus of this study is an introductory information systems module that teaches the Python programming language. Our statistical analysis demonstrated that the year marks and final exam scores of the participating students were frequently higher than those of the students in the control group.

The aim is to investigate the effects of delivering group-based personalized teaching via an electronic performance support system (EPSS) in an online medical informatics course on medical students' academic achievement and community of inquiry levels. The basic working principle of EPSS is to provide the most appropriate teaching methods to the educator, according to the students' variables and learning outcomes. The research design of this study involved a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group and the qualitative research method of answers to follow-up questions. While the students in the experimental group were taught various teaching approaches (flipped classroom, brain storming, case-based learning, debate and think-pair-share), the students in the control group were taught directly by online lessons according to direct instruction method. It was seen that the experimental procedure had a positive effect on both the academic achievement and community of inquiry levels of the experimental group compared to the control group. Besides, students in the experimental group reported that the lessons were more effective when they were enjoyable, motivating, focused on discussion and research, and were taught through cases. The group personalized teaching method used in this study could be a guide for future studies.

There is a lack of research on institutional e-accessibility and transfer-credit-software adoption and how these technologies impact college students and professionals. Accordingly, this study explores how adopting technology products can improve the transfer process experience for transfer admission counselors and students. In doing so, the study draws on the connectivism theory and Karp and Fletcher's (2014) and Kezar's (2013) three-way approaches - which examine changing-in-advice, institutional, and students' willingness to use technology tools - to investigate ways to enhance the transfer process experience and help students and transfer admission counselors make the most of technology tools. This study, conducted at a public institution in the mideast Atlantic region, utilized a convergent-parallel mixed-methods design to assess students' and professionals' perceptions of transfer credit evaluation products. Results indicate that an e-transfer system is vital to providing seamless, long-term service to students and transfer advisors. Furthermore, statewide support and a joint system are crucial to maintaining this e-transfer system and increasing information transparency for potential students. Nowadays, it is not common to come across sectors that can work and succeed without using information technology (IT). IT has now become a part of organizations' management and strategic decision-making mechanisms. Therefore, organizations make serious investments to develop software and system infrastructures and transfer business processes to digital environments such as cloud technologies. So, they get business resilient while they gain opportunities of spreading their business activities to wide stakeholders and customers. Here it is essential to provide assurance that an organization evaluates, develops, implements, maintains, disposes of its IT systems and manages life cycle of all information and information technology systems properly on all physical and logical environments. However, the most important matter is that an organization's objectives are met by the management practices of its information systems. While organizations carry out their digital transformation at a dizzying speed, organizations should be protected from material and moral damages such as loss of money, loss of commercial confidential information, loss of reputation by protecting the confidentiality, integrity and accessibility of the information assets they own and also comply with legal legislations such as the protection of personal data and intellectual property rights. In order to achieve this, organizations benefit from one or more frameworks, standards or directives that are suitable for their own structures and needs, separately or by integrating them. However, the most important point in this transformation process is the transition of organizations from IT management understanding to IT governance. In other words, IT has now become a part of the strategic decision-making mechanism by rising from the level of support tool to carry out business processes in organizations. When we search the academic literature, frameworks and standards, it is seen that the key elements of IT governance are structures, processes and relational mechanisms. If these three components are set up correctly and fit the organization, it can be assured that IT aligns with and supports the objectives of the organizations and that effective IT governance is achieved in every kind of organizations. In this research, databases such as Web of Science, IEEE, and SCOPUS are scanned and found articles are reviewed in order to make a literature review on IT Governance Mechanisms and Frameworks. Results are evaluated and discussed. By the way, suggestions for further studies were made and advanced researches were shed light on.

Hollywood screenwriters worry about Artificial Intelligence (AI) replacements taking over their jobs. Famous museums litigate to protect their art from AI infringement. A major retailer scraps a machine-learning based recruitment program that was biased against women. These are just a few examples of how AI is affecting the world of work, learning, and living. MIS and computer science students are among the professional groups who are embarking into careers with nebulous frontiers obscured by the outcroppings brought on by AI. Computer Science and Information System curriculum task forces have recognized the increasing ethical and professional implications developers' work can have beyond the scope of the programmers' code. In this article, the authors examine the professional, legal, and ethical implications of copyrights and algorithmic bias resulting from development of AI-enhanced applications and offer suggestions for addressing these topics in courses considering changes to the CC2020 and IS2020 Model Curriculum frameworks.

This paper reviews cybersecurity laws and regulations in Cameroon, focusing on cybersecurity and information security audits and risk assessments. The importance of cybersecurity risk assessment and the implementation of security controls to cure deficiencies noted during risk assessments or audits is a critical step in developing cybersecurity resilience. Cameroon's cybersecurity legal framework provides for audits but does not explicitly enumerate controls. Consequently, integrating relevant controls from the NIST frameworks and ISO Standards can improve the cybersecurity posture in Cameroon while waiting for a comprehensive revision of the legal framework. NIST and ISO are internationally recognized as best practices in information security systems and cybersecurity risk management. This paper highlights the lack of specific international law provisions addressing cybersecurity audits and risk assessments. Overall, the paper highlights the importance of continuous risk assessment and monitoring, implementation of security controls, and compliance with organizational policies, relevant laws and regulations to ensure the adequate protection of information systems. Finally, the paper underscores the importance of improving Cameroon's cybersecurity regulations by integrating provisions from NIST and ISO.

Cyber threats have escalated in recent years. Many of these threats have been direct and vicious attacks on K-12 systems. Educators are rarely trained on how to address cyber threats from a systemic and educational perspective when such challenges arise in their school buildings. This article explains the cyber threats that are looming large for K-12 systems and provides concrete tools for school leaders to employ in order to provide preventive education to their school communities.

Critical thinking has been identified as a key ability in most professions, yet employers find college graduates deficient in critical thinking skills. Research on the effect of college on students' critical thinking ability has been contradictory. This study empirically examines the impact of the immersion approach to teach critical thinking used in an undergraduate curriculum designed to improve students' general and discipline-specific critical thinking skills necessary for entry-level positions in information systems and technology. The results show this approach improved both students' generalizable and information systems-specific critical thinking. The benefits of the immersion approach to close the education-industry skills gap are discussed.

This case asks information systems analysts to assess the cybersecurity posture of a manufacturing company. The exercise works well as a group activity in an information systems course that addresses cybersecurity controls. The case introduces guidance from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and learners develop work products consistent with the standards. The narrative provides high-level summaries of relevant cybersecurity standards. The case is based on a real company and actual projects, but the company name and specific details have been fictionalized and made more abstract to make this case relevant even when specific technologies evolve. Through this experience, students will learn the importance of a defense-in-depth strategy for securing information systems.

Virtual teams have been adopted by organizations and studied for decades. However, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of technology-supported collaboration more than ever. This growing importance of virtual teamwork suggests that business education related to virtual team collaboration and communication is critical for students today, and universities play a significant role in equipping students with the knowledge and skillsets necessary to work in a digital world. This work reviews the literature on virtual teams and educational approaches used for teaching virtual team collaboration and communication and presents a framework for virtual team education. Survey findings and illustrative cases are gathered to demonstrate current virtual team education practices. The study concludes with recommendations for the education of virtual team knowledge and skills.

Higher education institutions rely on part-time faculty to teach a large percentage of courses in a range of disciplines. Existing research indicates that instruction by part-time faculty can negatively impact academic outcomes, student retention, and subsequent interest in a field of study. This study investigates if using a motivational information system can help close this performance gap. It introduces a type of motivational information system called an educational engagement information system (EEIS). EEISs draw on principles of behavioral economics, motivation theory, and learning cognition theory to help students want to improve their performance. The study compared student failure status in course sections taught by part- and full-time instructors both with and without an EEIS. Results suggest that using an EEIS can help improve student failure rates in courses taught by part-time faculty members and bring students' performance to parity with the performance of students taught by a full-time instructor. Features of an EEIS, such as the additional structure, grade and outcome trackers, and motivational elements, can augment a part-time instructor's approach and may compensate for limitations sometimes associated with part-time instruction including limitations of expertise, time, or rewards that can have a negative impact on students' academic outcomes. As a result, students can experience higher completion rates and better performance.

Algorithmic systems such as Learning Analytics (LA) are driving the datafication and algorithmization of education. In this research, we focus on the appropriateness of LA systems from the perspective of parents and students in secondary education. Anchored in the contextual integrity framework (Nissenbaum, "Washington Law Review, 79," 41, 2004), we conducted two survey studies (N[subscript students]=277, N[subscript parents]=1013) in Flanders to investigate how they evaluate the appropriateness of the data flows in LA systems, and how both populations differ in their evaluations. The results show that the most-used student-centered LA are perceived less appropriate than the less-used teacher-centered LA by both students and parents. The usage of personal characteristics in LA is perceived as least appropriate, in contrast to coarser class characteristics. Sharing insights of LA with institutions that are part of the traditional educational context, such as the school, is seen as the most appropriate, and more appropriate than sharing it with learning platforms or third parties (e.g., Big Tech). Overall, we found that parents evaluated the different elements of the dataflows embedded in LA as less appropriate than students. In the discussion, we argue that educational institutions should include the evaluation of both parents and students to further manage expectations and construct shared norms and practices when implementing LA in education.informa

The digitisation of the world has led to a multitude of far-reaching implications that require students to be prepared for the dynamic era of rapid change, complexity, fluidity, and ubiquity in which they will work at the forefront of technology. To succeed in this environment, students must be able to design and implement digital innovations within the broader spectrum of digital transformation. Despite the importance of this area, the literature shows a lack of research on how digital business innovation skills can be effectively taught to students. To address this gap, a design-based research (DBR) study was conducted using a mixed-methods design through three iterations at a South African university. The study aimed to answer the research question of how digital business innovation skills should be taught to South African Information Systems students. The study commenced with an analysis of practical problems experienced by practitioners, industry, students, and researchers and an initial review of pertinent literature. The literature review focused on the impact of digitisation on future skills requirements to inform the pedagogy, content, and technology applicable to the teaching and learning environment. The findings yielded design principles for the design of the learning environment that were tested and refined via three iterations, resulting in nine design principles. The aim was to ensure a future-oriented, industry-informed curriculum design that is relevant to the digital economy.

Purpose: The effect of e-learning success relies on the learning management system and its effectiveness provided to the learners. As a result, higher education institutions (HEIs) are expanding using various e-learning platforms and focusing on system and information quality. This study adopts the ISS (information system success) model to assess students' perception of e-learning system success (e-LSS). Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research approach was used to analyse 151 students' perceptions collected from HEIs in Oman. The survey instrument was built on prior research related to DeLone and McLean's ISS model, and expert opinion was involved for validation. The snowball sampling method was used to collect the data, and participants' anonymity and confidentiality were maintained as part of the ethical process. The reliability of data was tested using Cronbach's alpha analysis. A statistical tool like correlation was used to examine the relationship between the study variables (system quality, information quality, user satisfaction and e-LSS). Findings: This study's results revealed that students positively perceived system usage, and users' satisfaction with e-learning systems (e-LSs) was high. Moreover, the correlation results indicated that the system and information quality aspects of e-learning significantly influence e-LSS. Practical implications: The study results on students' perspective towards e-learning information systems can be advantageous to HEIs and various stakeholders like policymakers, and e-learning platforms. It may support and assist the HEIs and corporate firms in deciding on e-learning platforms for students and learners, respectively. Moreover, the consolidated findings will contribute to the existing literature on e-learning success factors from students' perspectives. Originality/value: This study examines the students' perception of e-LSS in Oman HEIs and advocates prospects for further in-depth study and analysis.

The literature in open education has thoroughly examined the implications of labor and staffing for initiatives around open educational resources (OER). However, less attention has been paid to the reliance on librarian labor for open pedagogy support. This article describes a collaboration between librarians and faculty to support an open pedagogy assignment in which students co-created an open textbook describing the history, politics, and culture of several East Asian cities. Special attention is paid to the scope and level of the support from the Libraries, which included faculty consultations, several instruction sessions, managing the publishing platform, and developing processes to ensure students' rights as authors. The collaboration provides context for a discussion about our current work of developing an open pedagogy service model. Lessons learned can inform similar collaborations at other institutions.

Many small organizations sponsor events and activities that could benefit from the data management and reporting capabilities provided through a centralized database. However, many of those organizations do not have the budget to afford a commercial solution or an on-going subscription to a cloud-based solution for a small scope event with limited frequency use. The case focuses upon a service project volunteer management system for recording, managing, and reporting on volunteers and the service projects they are doing. The case provides a realistic scenario that can be used in a systems analysis and design, database development, or graduate level management information systems course. Multiple assignment options are provided allowing instructors to select an assignment based upon course material coverage. Suggested assignments include the development of process modeling diagrams such as a data flow or swim lane diagrams and database design and development artifacts.

This paper proposes a Project-based team instruction methodology with open-ended projects to teach students critical analysis, design and implementation steps of developing Robotic Process Automation (RPA) for information systems. The use of project-based learning is appropriate for teaching RPA analysis and design with lean Six Sigma tools because of its experimental approach and documentation of logical steps needed to learn how to implement RPA successfully. The approach systematically documents work currently performed and defines future actions of the process while ensuring significant benefits are achieved with the RPA enhanced process. This methodology is important because the application of RPA is not commonly taught in Management Information System (MIS) programs. MIS students may not understand the significance of combined methodology, RPA tool, and usefulness of RPA until they enter the workforce where RPA is rapidly becoming available and easier to implement. The lecture sessions and exercises are valuable because it is easy to communicate the value of RPA in terms of time, quality, volume of transactions, etc. using Lean Six Sigma analytic approaches. The exercises involve hands on activities to make this learning experience interesting for students to readily associate the theoretical process improvement agreement and visualize the practical value of RPA enhanced projects. The paper discusses the need for process changes (and new development approaches) in organization to match the properties and functions within enterprise systems and ERPs that has led to criticism of the enterprise systems. This criticism is attributable to the ERPs' many subfunctions and operations that have limited adaptability and reduced functional and operational flexibility. The RPAs require limited prior knowledge of ERPs or their sub-processes for the improvements that are made in the performance of the organization. Thus, students do not have to "learn" how these enterprise or ERP systems operate to make changes or task improvements. This paper presents a project-based methodology and design approach focusing on development of RPAs that help students learning how to make the improvements using the RPS tools. The students learn that projects can deliver significant and tangible benefits to organizations while engaging students in key activities of the analysis, design and development process from a low code-no code perspective.

User Experience Design (UXD) is an often-neglected area of the information systems (IS) curriculum. UXD classes specifically designed for IS students are still uncommon in IS programs and this study aims to add to the body of knowledge to prepare a more well-rounded future generation of IS professionals. With this goal in mind, this study describes the redesign of an introductory UXD course following Kolb's learning cycle and constructivist instructional models. This paper describes the implementation of the supporting pedagogy and the opportunity for students to better master core UXD concepts. UXD, a multi-disciplinary area is built on skills learned in systems analysis and design class while students learn to apply relevant concepts through a hands-on, instructor-led, individual, in-class sample project. The skills are then applied by engaging students in active learning in a team setting to deliver value to a local organization by solving related, real-life challenges. Students work on community-engaged team projects to enhance their appreciation of the impact and relevance of their semester-long project deliverable. Constructivism guides the instructional models of the framework, in which problem-based learning is used to help students build and apply relevant skills. The instructional models and implications for instructional design are discussed along with a proposed pedagogical approach, course setting and structure, tools and techniques engaged, student feedback analyzed, and lessons learned.

This study discusses the use of an online learning recommendation system as a smart solution related to changing the face-to-face learning process to online. This study uses user-based collaborative filtering, item-based collaborative filtering, and hybrid collaborative filtering. This research was conducted in two stages using the KNN machine learning algorithm: (1) the three methods were tested to obtain student grade prediction results without adding contextual information; and (2) with the same method the same steps were carried out but with the addition of contextual information features as a feature addition. One of the alternatives carried out in this study is related to the possibility of predicting student grades. This study proves that the use of contextual information as an additional feature in the recommendation system has a significant effect on the accuracy of student score prediction results, which are used as the basis for providing recommendations using the rule base technique.

The Unified Theory of Technology and Use of Technology (UTAUT) has been widely used in information system studies since its introduction in 2003. The current study synthesizes 40 empirical studies based on UTAUT in educational contexts using the one-stage meta-analytic structural equation modelling method. While the study confirmed the initial findings by Ventakesh et al. (2003), the model in this study underperformed in the explained variance of behavioral intention. However, the explained variance of usage behavior performed better than the original UTAUT. After introducing new direct relationships between the UTAUT constructs, it was found that the construct, facilitating conditions, was a new predictor of behavioral intention. At the same time, effort expectancy and social influence were new predictors of usage behavior. There have been studies on the UTAUT model with many diverse findings since its inception in 2003. The method introduced in this study, a One-Stage combined Meta-Analysis and Structural Equation Modelling (OSMASEM), offers an approach for researchers to use past empirical data to examine the UTAUT framework without relying on replicating similar studies. As more empirical data from UTAUT research are added to train the data model using OSMASEM, researchers can now study how educational technology trends change over time.

The purpose of this study was to determine which of the input and output variables made a statistically significant difference in the efficiency status of undergraduate departments offering Health Management education in Turkey, to identify areas where inefficient departments could improve, and to determine which of the input and output variables made a statistically significant difference in the efficiency status of inefficient departments. The output-oriented data envelopment analysis model was employed in the efficiency analysis. As a decision-making unit, there were 43 Health Management departments. Mann-Whitney U test was used to analyse whether or not there was a statistically significant difference between the efficiencies of the departments based on the input and output variables. In Turkey, 15 of 43 state universities providing formal undergraduate education in the field of Health Management are fully efficient. Also, there was a significant difference in terms of the "number of completed projects" and the "number of papers in journals screened within the scope of Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC)" variables. No study examining the efficiency of Health Management departments has been found in the literature. Department administrators are encouraged to increase their publications and look into ways to design more initiatives.

This research was undertaken by synthesizing theories, documents, textbooks, research articles, and related academic articles relating to the wisdom repository management process. The objective is to present a system architecture and develop a knowledge management system which culminates in a repository of crystallized intelligence with a conversational agent that can promote learning for medical students by introducing a system architecture to develop intelligent agent technology. Through mobile technology, accessible anytime, anywhere, lifelong learning for medical students will be supported via an intelligent crystallized intelligence inventory management system. This keynote includes a comprehensive implementation and has API. The application has been tested with a trial run of all commands, with satisfactory results in the communication of the system that the user accesses through chatbots.

This paper presents the conceptual framework, value chain model and the system architecture of intelligent student relationship management based on cognitive technology with conversational agent for enhancing student's loyalty in higher education. The purposes were to synthesize the conceptual framework and apply it to develop the value chain model and the system architecture of intelligent student relationship management based on cognitive technology with conversational agent for enhancing student's loyalty in higher education and assess the developed value chain model and system architecture. The questionnaire was employed as the instrument to assess and certify the value chain model and the system architecture by the experts. The 5 point-Likert scale was used to identify the level of agreement of the value chain model and system architecture certification assessment. The instrument was verified by five experts using content validity index (CVI). After that, the value chain model and the system architecture were verified based on the consensus assessments of seventeen experts using mean, standard deviation (S.D.), median, interquartile range and quartile deviation. The results revealed that the experts had a consensus on the value chain model developed based on the conceptual framework (Mean = 4.89, S.D. = 0.27, Median = 5, Interquartile Range: I.R. = 0.00, Quartile Deviation: Q.D. = 0.00). They also had a consensus to approve the system architecture developed based on the value chain model (Mean = 4.70, S.D. = 0.55, Median = 5, Interquartile Range: I.R. = 1.00, Quartile Deviation: Q.D. = 0.50).

Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis' (IUPUI's) Center for Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) and IUPUI University Library (Library) developed a partnership to enhance community access to faculty scholarship resulting from translational research. Library staff archives the scholarship of faculty affiliated with TRIP in IUPUI ScholarWorks, the campus's open-access institutional repository. The TRIP Scholarly Works Program launched in 2013, and outcomes include benefits for faculty authors (increased readership) and for a world of readers (free access). After almost ten years in existence, Library and TRIP staff sought to evaluate the success of this program. Librarians and TRIP staff distributed a survey to TRIP-affiliated faculty to assess the impact of open access to their scholarship on their work as translational scholars. Faculty participants report a variety of benefits and yet, also indicate a need for increased program communication and fewer barriers to participation.

Are students who prefer online education different from those who prefer on-ground education, and how? This is an important question because educational institutions need to better understand student segmentations. This research examined 251 survey responses from students enrolled in Computer Information Systems courses at three universities over five years (2016-2021) and reviewed student attitudes, perceived skills, and their sociological characteristics. Through two-step cluster analysis unsupervised machine learning, two distinct clusters of students emerged, namely Onliners and On-grounders. The top nine out of the eleven group characteristics for Onliners are: select more online courses, regard online instruction as effective, work better without supervision, rely less on classroom interactions in learning, value convenience, can prioritize, are better organized, better prepared, and older. By understanding these group characteristics, educational institutions can make better decisions in policy making, resources allocation, and student recruitment/retention.

The Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM) framework was developed in the 1990s and has been widely used as the most relevant and comprehensive leading principle for conducting analytics projects. Despite the wide acceptance and adoption of the CRISP-DM framework, the current business analytics discipline often focuses on the modeling phase and overlooks the interplays between the phases. Consequently, students often lack a comprehensive understanding of the entire analytics process. This teaching case is created to demonstrate the importance of the data analytics life cycle and how six phases collectively contribute to the success of analytics projects using R. This case collects real-life data and follows the six CRISP-DM phases: business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modeling, evaluation, and deployment. At the end of the project, students will learn the importance of the data analytics life cycle, especially the data understanding and preparation phases, which often receive minimal attention in business analytics projects. This project will also demonstrate the importance of storytelling, ensuring that critical insights are conveyed to the audience.

Organizations are keenly interested in employees trained in business analysis and robotic process automation. This is because those methods are growing in demand for improving efficiency in business processes. Business students exiting college must understand how to map out business processes and implement automation fundamentals to be competitive in the job market. In this hands-on project, students will analyze a real-world situation and utilize NICE Automation Studios to automate the process.

Data literacy has become a much sought after skill by organizations as the importance of data driven decision making continues to rise in importance. This study explores the teaching of Tableau as a supplement to Excel to enhance the data literacy skills of students. Twenty-eight students taking an introductory course in Business Analytics and Information Systems completed a series of five tasks in both Excel and Tableau and answered a two question survey on their perceptions of the relative ease of use and ability to produce correct and visually pleasing results for Tableau versus Excel. An assessment of the results showed that Tableau submissions produced higher scores in terms of correctness and more professionally formatted visualizations. Student survey responses also supported a significant preference for Tableau over Excel in terms of both ease of use and ability to produce correct results.

It is critical for nations to have trained professionals in network security who can safeguard hardware, information systems, and electronic data. Network security education is a key knowledge unit of the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity and various information systems security curricula at the master's and bachelor's levels in higher education. Network security units are components of computer science curricula in high school contexts as well. Educators who teach these concepts play a significant role in developing a skilled workforce of network security experts for both governmental and non-governmental organizations. Understanding the necessary knowledge and skills of network security educators serve to better inform institutes of higher education, educator preparation programs, and others who support educators in the field. This study describes knowledge constructs of a higher education faculty member who teaches networking and network security and was developing, and piloting innovative network security curriculum embedded in both undergraduate and graduate courses. Data were transcripts of recorded monthly meetings with the educator, fieldnotes taken during the meetings, and course artifacts. Existing teacher knowledge frameworks that have been applied in both K-12 and higher education contexts were used to deductively code the data. Examples of curricular knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge specific to the teaching of network security are provided. The affordances of using engagement within curriculum development to understand educator knowledge constructs and the existing teacher knowledge frameworks as tools for analyses are highlighted.

This study explores the potential of large language models (LLMs), specifically GPT-4 and Gemini, in generating teaching cases for information systems courses. A unique prompt for writing three different types of teaching cases such as a descriptive case, a normative case, and a project-based case on the same IS topic (i.e., the introduction of blockchain technology in an insurance company) was developed and submitted to each LLM. The generated teaching cases from each LLM were assessed using subjective content evaluation measures such as relevance and accuracy, complexity and depth, structure and coherence, and creativity as well as objective readability measures such as Automated Readability Index, Coleman-Liau Index, Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Gunning Fog Index, Linsear Write Index, and SMOG Index. The findings suggest that while both LLMs perform well on objective measures, GPT-4 outperforms Gemini on subjective measures, indicating a superior ability to create content that is more relevant, complex, structured, coherent, and creative. This research provides initial empirical evidence and highlights the promise of LLMs in enhancing IS education while also acknowledging the need for careful proofreading and further research to optimize their use.

This teaching tip describes a novel simulation, the Business Information Systems Simulation, designed for teaching information systems concepts. Created with "Capsiminbox," the simulation places students in the role of a retail store manager who is assigned a leadership role in a strategically important pilot project to develop an app. Throughout the simulation, the student uses critical thinking skills to make decisions (grounded on the Rational Decision-Making Model) that must incorporate the company's Code of Conduct and satisfy various stakeholders. Later, the student leads their store through the response to a data breach. While encompassing many Information Systems concepts, the simulation challenges students to use their business rather than technical knowledge. A peer review, student survey, and analysis of skill scores demonstrate the simulation's effectiveness.

As organizations' reliance on data increases, the prevalence of data analytics programs in universities likewise increases. However, despite this specialized education, scholars still report a gap between the knowledge and skills students graduate with and those required by industry upon beginning work as an entry-level data analyst. We draw on theories of data analysis and curriculum frameworks to create an integrated theoretical model to drive our work. We then conduct an extensive analysis to identify relevant languages and tools in data analysis today and collect data from hiring managers seeking data analysts through a survey-based research method. We report the major knowledge, skills, and dispositions desired in the industry today for entry-level data analysts, including specific software platforms and applications. Our findings highlight several leading tools and a better understanding of how well data analysts are expected to know each tool and when those tools are used throughout the knowledge discovery via the data analytics lifecycle. This produces important contributions, particularly to academics working to keep data analytics programs competitive and up-to-date in today's rapidly changing landscape.

Sustainability refers to the achievement of present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. While prior research has highlighted the potential of Information Systems (IS) to support sustainability objectives -- for instance, through supporting eco-efficient work practices and democratising healthcare access -- our understanding of how to integrate the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a core aspect of IS teaching and curricula remains nascent. This teaching tip presents a pedagogical design and teaching method for embedding sustainability in systems design education using design thinking and "active learning" techniques. We provide examples of how students translated the SDGs into design concepts that target real-world sustainability problems with feedback from subject matter experts. Recommendations are then provided for supporting students' experiential journeys when exploring sustainability objectives in the classroom by providing opportunities for variation and experimentation.

Data Structures and Algorithms (DS) is a basic computer science course that is a prerequisite for taking advanced information systems (IS) curriculum courses. The course aims to teach students how to analyze a problem, design a solution, and implement it using pseudocode to construct knowledge and develop the necessary skills for algorithmic problem solving and abstract thinking. While the literature acknowledges the difficulty of this course, few references were found that examine the process students undergo while solving DS algorithmic problems. The study's objective is to explore and describe IS students' problem-solving processes and challenges requiring a high level of abstract thinking in a "black box" approach. During the study, 13 students were observed while solving a complex problem, using "think aloud" (TA) techniques. Each observation was recorded, transcribed, and iteratively analyzed using principles of provisional coding in qualitative data analysis. The findings suggest that the quality and correctness of the solutions depend on three main factors: abstract thinking, flexibility applied during the solution process, and an absence of misconceptions related to concepts and the basic understanding of the problem. The students' levels of abstract thinking also influenced the quality of visualization used while trying to solve the problem. This study's findings may raise the awareness of DS course designers and instructors regarding the importance of the role of abstract thinking, possible misconceptions, and strategies used in problem solving as factors influencing students' ability to solve complex problems.
