The purpose of the research was to improve the quality of information process control in the interaction of mobile object grouping. This proposal is based on developing and implementing new combined models with algorithms for optimal planning and scheduling of information processes during interaction among mobile objects. The proposed approach would guarantee the required level of aircraft maintenance at the airport. The novel aspect of the proposed solution is that it divides the spatially distributed task of selecting a plan and a schedule for information processes in mobile objects into two subtasks, describing the spatial and temporal features of the original task. The spatial component of the original problem is described as a static model. Using this model, the optimal distribution of information operations over the resources of mobile objects is carried out without binding these operations to time. The time component is described as a dynamic model, within which the information operations are tied to time and the corresponding resources. Examples of construction and research of synthesized plans and schedules are given. Population growth in urban cities has created transport problems such as traffic congestion, pollution, accidents, and infrastructure failures. These problems often lead to disruption of mobility, especially in emerging economies. The goal of any city is to have a resilient transport system that is free from frequent and severe disruptions. Resilience can be incorporated into smart mobility systems to create a robust, integrated and intelligent transport system. Therefore, this study sought to determine resilience factors required for a resilient smart mobility system in emerging economies. The study used interpretive structural modelling (ISM) to establish the causal interrelationships among the factors drawing from data from experts in smart cities, city transport and academia. It was found that the most critical factor to drive resilience is foresight – the ability to anticipate disruptions. Three other resilience factor categories identified were dynamism, certainty and optimisation, which all point to the importance of building dynamic capabilities. The key implication for practice highlights the role that human and artificial intelligence can play in anticipating natural, social and infrastructure disruptions. ISM offered a mechanism to determine the critical causal resilience factors to be prioritised amongst the competing demands on the limited resources of emerging economies. Apart from foresight, which was found to be a driving factor, the other resilience factors are equally strong linkage factors (influence each other), thus further revealing the complexities that decision-makers in urban cities of emerging economies constantly face. The Internet of Things (IoT) is essential in several Internet application areas and remains a key technology for communication technologies. Shorter delays in transmission between Roadside Units (RSUs) and vehicles, road safety, and smooth traffic flow are the major difficulties of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Machine Learning (ML) was an advanced technique to find hidden insights into ITSs. This article introduces an Improved Arithmetic Optimization with Deep Learning Driven Traffic Congestion Control (IAOADL-TCC) for ITS in Smart Cities. The presented IAOADL-TCC model enables traffic data collection and route traffic on existing routes for avoiding traffic congestion in smart cities. The IAOADL-TCC algorithm exploits a hybrid convolution neural network attention long short-term memory (HCNN-ALSTM) method for traffic congestion control. In addition, an IAOA-based hyperparameter tuning strategy is derived to optimally modify the parameters of the HCNN-ALSTM model. The presented IAOADL-TCC model effectively enhances the flow of traffic and reduces congestion. The experimental validation was performed using the road traffic dataset from the Kaggle repository. The proposed model obtained an average accuracy of 98.03 % with an error rate of 1.97 %. The experimental analysis stated the superior performance of the IAOADL-TCC approach over other DL methods. Accurate traffic flow prediction in road networks is essential for intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Since traffic data are collected from the road network with spatial topological and time series sequences, the traffic flow prediction is regarded as a spatial–temporal prediction task. With the powerful ability to model the non-Euclidean data, the graph convolutional network (GCN)-based models have become the mainstream framework for traffic forecasting. However, existing GCN-based models either use the manually predefined graph structure to capture the spatial features, ignoring the heterogeneity of road networks, or simply perform 1-D convolution with fixed kernel to capture the temporal dependencies of traffic data, resulting in insufficient long-term temporal feature extraction. To solve those issues, a spatial–temporal correlation constrained dynamic graph convolutional network (STC-DGCN) is proposed for traffic flow forecasting. In STC-DGCN, a spatial–temporal embedding encoder module (STEM) is first constructed to encode the dynamic spatial relationships for road networks at different time steps. Then, a temporal feature encoder module with heterogeneous time series correlation modeling (TFE-HCM) and a spatial feature encoder module with dynamic multi-graph modeling (SFE-DCM) are designed to generate dynamic graph structures for effectively capturing the dynamic spatial and temporal correlations. Finally, a spatial–temporal feature fusion module based on a gating fusion mechanism (STM-GM) is proposed to effectively learn and leverage the inherent spatial–temporal relationships for traffic flow forecasting. Experimental results from three real-world traffic flow datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed STC-DGCN compared with state-of-the-art traffic flow forecasting models. Object detection and classification in autonomous vehicles are crucial for ensuring safe and efficient navigation through complex environments. This paper addresses the need for robust detection and classification algorithms tailored specifically for Indian roads, which present unique challenges such as diverse traffic patterns, erratic driving behaviors, and varied weather conditions. Despite significant progress in object detection and classification for autonomous vehicles, existing methods often struggle to generalize effectively to the conditions encountered on Indian roads. This paper proposes a novel approach utilizing the YOLOv8 deep learning model, designed to be lightweight, scalable, and efficient for real-time implementation using onboard cameras. Experimental evaluations were conducted using real-life scenarios encompassing diverse weather and traffic conditions. Videos captured in various environments were utilized to assess the model's performance, with particular emphasis on its accuracy and precision across 35 distinct object classes. The experiments demonstrate a precision of 0.65 for the detection of multiple classes, indicating the model's efficacy in handling a wide range of objects. Moreover, real-time testing revealed an average accuracy exceeding 70% across all scenarios, with a peak accuracy of 95% achieved in optimal conditions. The parameters considered in the evaluation process encompassed not only traditional metrics but also factors pertinent to Indian road conditions, such as low lighting, occlusions, and unpredictable traffic patterns. The proposed method exhibits superiority over existing approaches by offering a balanced trade-off between model complexity and performance. By leveraging the YOLOv8 architecture, this solution achieved high accuracy while minimizing computational resources, making it well suited for deployment in autonomous vehicles operating on Indian roads. Population growth and environmental burden have turned the efforts of cities globally toward smarter and greener mobility. Cooperative and Connected Automated Mobility (CCAM) serves as a concept with the power and potential to help achieve these goals building on technological fields like Internet of Things, computer vision, and distributed computing. However, its implementation is hindered by various challenges covering technical parameters such as performance and reliability in tandem with other issues, such as safety, accountability, and trust. To overcome these issues, new distributed and decentralized approaches like blockchain and smart contracts are needed. This paper identifies a comprehensive inventory of CCAM challenges including technical, social, and ethical challenges. It then describes the most prominent methodologies using blockchain and smart contracts to address them. A comparative analysis of the findings follows, to draw useful conclusions and discuss future directions in CCAM and relevant blockchain applications. The data article describes the Road Damage Dataset, RDD2022, encompassing of 47,420 road images from majorly six countries, Japan, India, the Czech Republic, Norway, the United States, and China. The dataset incorporates over 55,000 instances of road damage, specifically longitudinal cracks, transverse cracks, alligator cracks, and potholes. Designed to facilitate the development of deep learning methodologies for automated road damage detection and classification, RDD2022 was unveiled as part of the Crowd sensing‐based Road Damage Detection Challenge (CRDDC'2022), with a major contribution from the challenge winners. This challenge garnered global participation, urging researchers to propose solutions for automatic road damage detection in multiple countries. A noteworthy outcome of CRDDC'2022 was the emergence of a top‐performing model achieving a remarkable F1 Score of 76.9% for road damage detection in all six countries using RDD2022. To strengthen the safety monitoring of foggy road traffic and maintain the safety of vehicle driving on foggy roads, image dehazing algorithms are used to improve the clarity of road images detected in foggy environments, thereby improving the detection ability and monitoring efficiency of intelligent transportation systems for vehicle targets. Due to the low accuracy of vehicle detection and serious problem of missed detections in haze environments, this paper proposes an improved All-in-One Dehazing Network (AOD-Net) algorithm for detecting foggy vehicles, which adds batch normalization (BN) layers after each layer of convolution in AOD-Net, accelerating the convergence of the model and controlling overfitting. To enhance image detail information, an effective pyramid-shaped PSA attention module is embedded to extract richer feature information, enrich model representation, and improve the loss function to a multi-scale structural similarity (MS-SSIM) + L1 mixed loss function, thereby improving the quality, brightness, and contrast of dehazing images. Compared with current image dehazing algorithms, the dehazing quality of our algorithm is superior to other dehazing algorithms, such as dark channel prior (DCP), Dehaze-Net, and Fusion Feature Attention Network (FFA-Net). Compared with AOD-Net, the improved algorithm has increased the peak signal-to-noise ratio by 3.23 dB. At the same time, after the improved AOD-Net image dehazing processing, YOLOv7 object detection was performed and experimentally validated on a real foggy dataset. Accurate prediction of bus arrival times can greatly benefit public transport users, allowing them to better plan their journeys in cities. The usual Expected Time of Arrival (ETA) estimators provided to citizens use all the information available to the bus service provider (vehicle position, traffic, etc.); in this paper we propose a procedure to improve these estimators that relies solely on historical ETA records provided by public transport councils through application programming interfaces (APIs). This improvement is achieved by means of a machine learning scheme that predicts and corrects the systematic errors of the available ETA estimators. Significant improvements in terms of error mean and standard deviation are achieved for the Madrid and Paris bus fleets. These robust results and the fact that the proposed scheme uses only historical and online information provided by APIs, without requiring the cooperation of the service provider, support the suitability of the proposed method for general public benefit applications toward the sustainability of cities. Accurately predicting the next track point of vehicle travel is crucial for various Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications, such as travel behavior studies, traffic control, and traffic congestion monitoring. Recent works on trajectory prediction follow a paradigm that first represents the raw trajectory and subsequently makes predictions based on that representation. Currently, trajectory representation methods tend to project trajectory points to road networks by map matching and represent trajectories based on the representation of matched roads. However, precisely matching trajectories to roads is a challenge in ITS, as the matching precision is greatly affected by the quality of the trajectory. Meanwhile, since it is difficult to discern whether trajectory matching results are accurate or confounded, how to effectively utilize this type of uncertain geographic context information is also a challenge, which is defined as the Uncertain Geographic Context Problem (UGCoP) in geographic information science. Therefore, we propose a flexible strategy of subgraph learning, referred to as SLM, for predicting the next track point of vehicles. Specifically, a subgraph generation module is first proposed to extract topology contextual information of the roads around historical trajectory points. Secondly, a subgraph learning module is designed to learn rich spatial and temporal features from generated subgraphs. Finally, the extracted spatiotemporal features will be fed into a prediction module to predict the next track points of vehicles on road networks. Our model enables the effective utilization of uncertain geographic context information of trajectories on road networks while avoiding the error brought by map matching. Reasonable test scenarios and objective evaluation methods can rapidly promote the development of autonomous vehicle technology. A new quantitative evaluation method for the comprehensive performance of autonomous vehicle is proposed in this paper. First, different test environments and test contents are combined to obtain vehicle test scenarios of different complexity. Then, the evaluation index system of autonomous vehicle is divided into target layer, total index layer, and index layer. After that, the weights of the index layer are determined by the objective weight method of Criteria Importance though Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) method, and the total weights of index layer are determined by the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) of subjective weight method. Finally, the improved grey relational theory method is used to quantitatively evaluate autonomous vehicles from four aspects: driving safety, riding comfort, intelligence, and efficiency. The quantitative evaluation of autonomous vehicles can reduce the influence of abnormal data on the correlation degree and increase the robustness of the evaluation algorithm. The evaluation results of the proposed method and the traditional fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method are compared by simulation experiment and evaluation. The results show that the proposed evaluation method in this paper is more objective and reasonable, which can quantitatively evaluate the comprehensive performance of autonomous vehicles. Electric vehicle (EV) charging management combines forecasting, pricing, and scheduling, with pricing and forecasts significantly influencing scheduling models. AI-based forecasting frequently uses LSTM and GRU to handle complex dependencies, but attention-based mechanisms excel at capturing long-term dependencies. Managing EV charging is difficult due to limited battery capacity and unpredictable variables such as traffic, user behaviour, and electricity prices. Researchers prefer model-free approaches incorporating deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to address these challenges. This paper describes a DRL-based solution for optimizing in-home EV charging, presented as a Markov decision process (MDP). We present the novel modified GRU (MGRU) model, which builds on GRU, and an advanced model, the multi-head attention-based bi-directional MGRU ("MHA-BiMGRU"). This innovative model optimizes EV charging by utilizing historical energy prices and automatically scheduling actions based on real-time electricity pricing to meet user needs and reduce charging costs. The extensive simulations with several other variants of the proposed model and related RNN-based models conclusively confirm the effectiveness of the proposed model "MHA-BiMGRU"compared to conventional RNN-based models (LSTM and JANET) in increasing user satisfaction and significantly lowering EV owners' charging expenses. Additionally, the proposed model reduces charging costs by 13% and 26% when using DQN and 15% and 36% when using DDPG, compared to the related LSTM and JANET-based models, respectively. Summary: The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a hot research topic in intelligent transportation, and the research on new methods of intelligent data transmission is one of the key contents. Aiming at the application scenario of urban air quality monitoring data collection and transmission based on IoV, a new reliable data transmission method (Vehicular Grouping‐Communicated Data [VGCD]) based on crowd sensing strategy is proposed. This method is designed to utilize the intelligent perception and collaborative monitoring of vehicle to collect data, avoiding redundancy and overload of information; a reliable data transmission minimum delay hybrid routing method is proposed in the data transmission part, which combines encoding mechanism with routing design, integrates routing switching ideas, predicts vehicle adaptive connectivity based on fuzzy logic, and makes probability based routing decisions to minimize delay, achieving reliable and efficient data collection and transmission. As a growing up-and-coming branch of the Internet of Things and traditional vehicular ad hoc networks, the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is intended to perform as a core information carrying and processing platform for Intelligent Transport Systems. However, owing to its dynamic topological structures, large network scale, and mobile limitation, IoV systems still struggle with many unresolved challenges, especially those concerning security and privacy. Therefore, researchers consider security a significant concern due to the variety of vulnerabilities. Recently, existing security researchers have worked extensively to guarantee IoV security. Forecasting traffic patterns is an essential component of intelligent transport systems. It helps forecast traffic congestion, improve traffic management, and make roads safer. However, most existing studies focus on the direct traffic data dependencies between road segments but lack sufficient attention to the implied higher-order dependencies within the road network. Furthermore, although existing models attempt to capture spatio-temporal relationships by integrating different components, they are still inadequate in effectively modeling the interaction between spatio-temporal relationships. We propose a higher-order graph convolutional network model (STK-HGCN) to address the above issues. Firstly, the model extracts and fuses temporal low-order and high-order information using temporal convolutional layers; in terms of spatial aspects, we capture low-order spatial information by constructing geographic and functional graphs and introduce hypergraphs to create the implied high-order information between road networks, which are then convolved to obtain the high-order spatio-temporal dependencies. Secondly, we construct a spatial-temporal interaction module with a "sandwich" structure to capture spatial-temporal interaction features effectively. Finally, we performed comparative experiments on the METR-LA and PEMS-BAY datasets, and the results indicate that, compared to the optimal baseline model, the STK-HGCN model improves MAE and RMSE by 0.08, 0.13, 0.15, and 0.37, respectively, while reducing MAPE by 0.25% and 0.18%, respectively. Anger impairs a driver's control and risk assessment abilities, heightening traffic accident risks. Constructing a multimodal dataset during driving tasks is crucial for accurate anger recognition. This study developed a multimodal physiological -vehicle driving dataset (DPV-MFD) based on drivers' self-reported anger during simulated driving tasks. In Experiment 1, responses from 624 participants to anger-inducing videos and driving scenarios were collected via questionnaires to select appropriate materials. In Experiments 2 and 3, multimodal dynamic data and self-reported SAM emotion ratings were collected during simulated and real-vehicle tasks, capturing physiological and vehicle responses in neutral and anger states. Spearman's correlation coefficient analysis validated the DPV-MFD's effectiveness and explored the relationships between multimodal data and emotional dimensions. The CNN-LSTM deep learning network was used to assess the emotion recognition performance of the DPV-MFD across different time windows, and its applicability in real-world driving scenarios was validated. Compared to using EEG data alone, integrating multimodal data significantly improved anger recognition accuracy, with accuracy and F1 scores rising by 4.49% and 9.14%, respectively. Additionally, real-vehicle data closely matched simulated data, confirming the dataset's effectiveness for real-world applications. Intelligent traffic control decision-making has long been a crucial issue for improving the efficiency and safety of the intelligent transportation system. The deficiencies of the Type-1 fuzzy traffic control system in dealing with uncertainty have led to a reduced ability to address traffic congestion. Therefore, this paper proposes a Type-2 fuzzy controller for a single intersection. Based on real-time traffic flow information, the green timing of each phase is dynamically determined to achieve the minimum average vehicle delay. Additionally, in traffic light control, various factors (such as vehicle delay and queue length) need to be balanced to define the appropriate reward. Improper reward design may fail to guide the Deep Q-Network algorithm to learn the optimal strategy. To address these issues, this paper proposes a deep reinforcement learning traffic control strategy combined with Type-2 fuzzy control. The output action of the Type-2 fuzzy control system replaces the action of selecting the maximum output Q-value of the target network in the DQN algorithm, reducing the error caused by the use of the max operation of the target network. This approach improves the online learning rate of the agent and increases the reward value of the signal control action. The simulation results using the Simulation of Urban MObility platform show that the traffic signal optimization control proposed in this paper has achieved significant improvement in traffic flow optimization and congestion alleviation, which can effectively improve the traffic efficiency in front of the signal light and improve the overall operation level of traffic flow. The exponential increase in vehicles, quick urbanization, and rising demand for transportation are straining the world's road infrastructure today. To have a sustainable transportation system with dynamic traffic volume, an Adaptive Traffic Signal Control system (ATSC) should be contemplated to reduce urban traffic congestion and, thus, help reduce the carbon footprints/emissions of greenhouse gases. With dynamic cleave, the ATSC system can adapt the signal timing settings in real-time according to seasonal and short-term variations in traffic demand, enhancing the effectiveness of traffic operations on urban road networks. This paper provides a comprehensive study on the insights, technical lineaments, and status of various research work in ATSC. In this paper, the ATSC is categorized based on several road intersections (RIs), viz., single-intersection (SI) and multiple-intersection (MI) techniques, viz., Fuzzy Logic (FL), Metaheuristic (MH), Dynamic Programming (DP), Reinforcement Learning (RL), Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), and hybrids used for developing Traffic Signal Control (TSC) systems. The findings from this review demonstrate that modern ATSC systems designed using various techniques offer substantial improvements in managing the dynamic density of the traffic flow. In the field of computer vision, the detection of road potholes at night represents a critical challenge in enhancing the safety of intelligent transportation systems. Ensuring road safety is of paramount importance, particularly in promptly repairing pothole issues. These abrupt road depressions can easily lead to vehicle skidding, loss of control, and even traffic accidents, especially when water has pooled in or submerged the potholes. Therefore, the detection and recognition of road potholes can significantly reduce vehicle damage and the incidence of safety incidents. However, research on road pothole detection lacks high-quality annotated datasets, particularly under low-light conditions at night. To address this issue, this study introduces a novel Nighttime Pothole Dataset (NPD), independently collected and comprising 3831 images that capture diverse scene variations. The construction of this dataset aims to counteract the insufficiency of existing data resources and strives to provide a richer and more realistic benchmark. Additionally, we develop a baseline detector, termed WT-YOLOv8, for the proposed dataset, based on YOLOv8. We also evaluate the performance of the improved WT-YOLOv8 method and eight state-of-the-art object detection methods on the NPD and the COCO dataset. The experimental results on the NPD demonstrate that WT-YOLOv8 achieves a 2.3% improvement in mean Average Precision (mAP) over YOLOv8. In terms of the key metrics—AP@0.5 and AP@0.75—it shows enhancements of 1.5% and 2.8%, respectively, compared to YOLOv8. The experimental results provide valuable insights into each method's strengths and weaknesses under low-light conditions. This analysis highlights the importance of a specialized dataset for nighttime pothole detection and shows variations in accuracy and robustness among methods, emphasizing the need for improved nighttime pothole detection techniques. Traffic flow prediction, which provides dynamic data support for intelligent transportation systems, has always been a topic of great interest. Accurate prediction of traffic flow is vital for optimizing traffic management and planning and improving traffic efficiency. Existing traffic flow prediction models usually consider only a single influencing factor when modeling spatial-temporal correlation and fail to comprehensively consider the multiscale factors corresponding to each module, resulting in incomplete spatial-temporal modeling and thus affecting prediction accuracy. For this reason, this paper proposes a spatial-temporal multifactor fusion graph neural network (STMFGNN), which aims to characterize spatial-temporal features more comprehensively. First, in the spatial feature extraction module, we parallelly utilize dynamic similarity graphs and static adjacency graphs to perform graph convolution and introduce the gated fusion module to self-learn the dynamic influence weight so that our model can integrate the information of global hidden knowledge and local prior knowledge and capture the multiscale spatial dependencies between nodes. Second, the model combines gated tanh unit convolution with a multireceptive field and gated recurrent units in the temporal feature extraction module. Similarly, it utilizes the gated fusion module to adaptively and dynamically adjust the importance weights of the two components. This enables the acquisition of multiscale temporal dependency information at both short-term and long-term levels. In addition, we employ an improved generative adversarial imputation network for incomplete traffic flow data. Origin-destination demand prediction is a critical task in the field of intelligent transportation systems. However, accurately modeling the complex spatial-temporal dependencies presents significant challenges, which arises from various factors, including spatial, temporal, and external influences such as geographical features, weather conditions, and traffic incidents. Moreover, capturing multi-scale dependencies of local and global spatial dependencies, as well as short and long-term temporal dependencies, further complicates the task. To address these challenges, a novel framework called the Spatial-Temporal Memory Enhanced Multi-Level Attention Network (ST-MEN) is proposed. The framework consists of several key components. Firstly, an external attention mechanism is incorporated to efficiently process external factors into the prediction process. Secondly, a dynamic spatial feature extraction module is designed that effectively captures the spatial dependencies among nodes. By incorporating two skip-connections, this module preserves the original node information while aggregating information from other nodes. Finally, a temporal feature extraction module is proposed that captures both continuous and discrete temporal dependencies using a hierarchical memory network. In addition, multi-scale features cascade fusion is incorporated to enhance the performance of the proposed model. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model, extensively experiments are conducted on two real-world datasets. Intelligent transport systems (ITS) offer safe and autonomous service in vehicular applications. The vehicle to everything (V2X) network aids in performing communication between any vehicle to other entities such as networks, pedestrians or other objects. However, the allocation of power in the V2X network is still seen as a challenging task in recent resource allocation approaches. So, multi-head attention mechanism with reinforcement learning (MHAMRL) is utilized in resource allocation. This work considers real traffic scenes in highway traffic model and wireless transmission model. Specifically, in the mode 4 cellular V2X, every individual vehicle is considered as a resource which does not rely on the base station for resource allocation. Vehicle users are classified into V2I or V2V links based on the varied service requirements of V2X. The combination of multi-head attention mechanism sequences the signal with minimal noises which diminishes the energy consumption and improves channel gain. In the velocity range of 20-25 m/s, the proposed approach achieves a sum rate of 53 Mb/s, surpassing the 50 Mb/s achieved by the existing multi-agent deep reinforcement learning-based attention mechanism (AMARL) algorithm. Summary A road‐weather information system (RWIS) is an attractive application in the context of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs), which is used where climatic conditions and meteorological events worsen traffic safety. The primary goal is to significantly reduce potential accidents by sending early warning messages to prompt immediate action. For this purpose, road weather information stations are placed at critical points on the highways. In addition to responsible transportation agencies, enabling direct warning message transfer from roadside infrastructure to vehicles can significantly improve the effectiveness of a typical RWIS application. Dedicated short range communication (DSRC) and cellular vehicle to everything (C‐V2X) technologies are extensively used for data exchange between vehicles (V2V) and between vehicles and road infrastructure (V2I or I2V) under the umbrella term of vehicle‐to‐everything (V2X) communications. Latency and coverage are key performance indicators of the vehicular network that determine how drivers react to risks in adverse road and weather conditions. V2X‐based connectivity mainly aims to offer low latency in message delivery, but it is not possible to obtain a wide‐range coverage due to significant propagation loss in the dedicated 5.9 GHz ITS frequency band. In this study, we presented a long range (LoRa)‐based RWIS application that uses I2 V communication at sub‐GHz bands. Our main contribution is proposing a novel method for RWIS implementations, where the LoRa gateways run in a half‐duplex way to collect information from road weather information stations in the uplink channel and then broadcast warning messages to vehicles in the downlink channel. To validate the applicability of the proposed method, we presented a feasibility study that includes transmission range and latency analysis. Our theoretical calculations' results validate the more extended transmission range and applicability of LoRa connectivity on RWIS applications, especially for common scenarios like black ice where the climate risks do not occur suddenly. We also showed that our methodology would be beneficial due to the ability to offer wide coverage, especially in the areas where cellular base stations have not yet existed or V2X road infrastructure has not yet been established. The surveillance and management of cargo fleets is a crucial objective of intelligent transportation systems. Load, especially overload, has a destructive effect on roads and bridges, and monitoring it can increase the life of road surface and its structure. For low-end hardware with lack of CPU power and no GPU support, this paper presents a rapid method to detect whether heavy vehicles have loads or not; then it proposes a fast method for classifying load types to distinguish soil and construction waste from other miscellaneous loads for heavy weight vehicles. This paper applies a method for classifying cargo types using image processing and texture image classification. This method extracts features for statistical analysis of texture images based on gray-level co-occurrence matrices and local binary patterns. The classification is carried out by support vector machine, k-nearest neighborhood, K-mean, artificial neural networks and random forest classifiers. A large number of positive and negative patterns have been used to train these classifiers. We compare the performance of proposed extracted features and classifiers. Current research on lane-changing for intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) primarily focuses on the control of a single ICV. Even studies on cooperative lane-changing among multiple ICVs often use fixed control algorithms, which are difficult to adapt to constantly changing traffic conditions. This paper proposes a method based on the deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) model. The DDPG algorithm has strong generalization capabilities, enabling it to handle complex traffic scenarios. Combined with the design of innovative reward functions, it successfully achieves the control of cooperative lane-changing for multiple ICVs. The novelty of this model is mainly reflected in the implementation of multiple ICVs control and cooperative strategies through the design of a speed reward function. Specifically, when two or more ICVs come within a 15-m range, a collaborative strategy is implemented. In this strategy, the original speeds of the vehicles involved are replaced with their average speed. This average speed is then used to compute the velocity reward. Moreover, an additional headway reward is introduced when two vehicles are on the same lane with a distance of less than 10m between them, further optimizing lane-changing decisions and enhancing driving efficiency. The innovative approach described in this paper has been validated through simulations in the highway-env simulation environment. The model’s effectiveness was tested under various conditions, including different road densities and numbers of ICVs. Results indicate that with an increasing number of episodes, the model consistently enhances both the fleet’s and each individual vehicle’s average speed and steps. It also ensures that the headway is maintained within a desired range of 10–20m. This paper showcases the potential applications of a new DDPG-based multi-networked vehicular cooperative lane-changing decision model across different scenarios. The advent of connected automated vehicles (CAVs) will introduce new possibilities for traffic management as it provides a wide variety of data that can be used by traffic network and fleet operators. Much of this data will be generated passively by vehicles and the infrastructure and exchanged between stations via wireless communication, i.e., Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X). This paper introduces a V2X-based traffic management approach based on slot management for vehicles. These slots are used to control the route choice and trajectory planning of CAVs over multiple organizational levels. After introducing the central principles that the management system model is based on, we test two lane change approaches for CAVs in order to derive rules for generating and controlling slots. A basic set of rules was defined that foremost resulted from evaluating the lane change behaviour of CAVs. The evaluation of the lane changes shows that omitting deviations in the driving behaviour of CAVs yields non-optimal results concerning traffic flow parameters, especially under highly congested conditions. Fatigue is one of the crucial factors in human error-related traffic accidents. Despite the development of highly advanced intelligent transport systems, fatigue-related traffic accidents have not decreased. The factors inducing driver fatigue are classified into mental and physical categories. Physical fatigue results from muscle strain due to prolonged driving and operations. Mental fatigue, on the other hand, results from the continuous mental effort required for driving, including repeated perception and decision-making regarding driving situations and route planning. Monitoring driver fatigue can help prevent fatigue-related traffic accidents. Therefore, researchers have studied its relationship with various biomarkers such as sleep state, eye movement, facial expression, and electroencephalography (EEG) activation levels. Moreover, studies have revealed the relationship between fatigue and cognitive performance, which is affected by factors such as extended periods of driving. Furthermore, the strategy, quantity, and quality of driving operations and perception differ in various traffic environments. For instance, driving stress levels vary depending on factors such as the number of vehicles on the road, traffic congestion, and road conditions. However, the brain activity associated with mental and physical workload due to the traffic environment and its factors remains unknown. In particular, the relationship between mental and physical stress resulting from varying levels of operation and perception in different driving environments, the accumulation of driver fatigue caused by such stress, and the related brain activity are still unclear. In this study, we focused on investigating the mental and physical workload that accumulates in drivers and induces physical and mental fatigue, as well as the related brain activity caused by different traffic environments. We investigate these aspects through driving experiments, measuring EEG in driving environments created by varying the traffic environment and density using a driving simulator. The results confirmed differences in theta- and alpha-band spectral responses, which are associated with driver fatigue, across different traffic environments. Further examination of the causal relationship showed that mental and physical workload were associated with fatigue-related spectral responses depending on the traffic environment. In modern urban traffic, vehicles and pedestrians are fundamental elements in the study of traffic dynamics. Vehicle and pedestrian detection have significant practical value in fields like autonomous driving, traffic management, and public security. However, traditional detection methods struggle in complex environments due to challenges such as varying scales, target occlusion, and high computational costs, leading to lower detection accuracy and slower performance. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an improved vehicle and pedestrian detection algorithm based on YOLOv8, with the aim of enhancing detection in complex traffic scenes. The motivation behind our design is twofold: first, to address the limitations of traditional methods in handling targets of different scales and severe occlusions, and second, to improve the efficiency and accuracy of real-time detection. The new generation of dense pedestrian detection technology requires higher accuracy, less computing overhead, faster detection speed, and more convenient deployment. Based on the above background, this paper proposes a synchronous end-to-end vehicle pedestrian detection algorithm based on improved YOLOv8, aiming to solve the detection problem in complex scenes. First of all, we have improved YOLOv8 by designing a deformable convolutional improved backbone network and attention mechanism, optimized the network structure, and improved the detection accuracy and speed. Secondly, we introduced an end-to-end target search algorithm to make the algorithm more stable and accurate in vehicle and pedestrian detection. The experimental results show that, using the algorithm designed in this paper, our model achieves an 11.76% increase in precision and a 6.27% boost in mAP. In addition, the model maintains a real-time detection speed of 41.46 FPS, ensuring robust performance even in complex scenarios. These optimizations significantly enhance both the efficiency and robustness of vehicle and pedestrian detection, particularly in crowded urban environments. We further apply our improved YOLOv8 model for real-time detection in intelligent transportation systems and achieve exceptional performance with a mAP of 95.23%, outperforming state-of-the-art models like YOLOv5, YOLOv7, and Faster R-CNN. Floating car data (FCD), characterized by wide spatiotemporal coverage, low collection cost, and immunity to adverse weather conditions, are one of the key approaches for intelligent transportation systems to obtain real‐time urban road network traffic information. The research aims to utilize GPS data from taxis in Shanghai and vector geographic information data of the road network, with urban expressways as the research focus. Based on the different driving characteristics of expressways and the vehicles on the ramps below, a clustering analysis is employed to determine all floating vehicles traveling on the target road. Furthermore, an adaptive buffer zone consistent with the road orientation is established based on road vector geographic data. This allows for the extraction of FCD within segmented areas, and the average vehicle speed for that road segment is obtained through weighted calculations. This method fully exploits the natural characteristics of taxis in urban areas with a wide spatiotemporal distribution. The data effectiveness and coverage reach 90.2% and 85.7%, respectively, significantly surpassing the traditional grid‐based extraction method for FCD. Additionally, to capture the long‐term spatiotemporal dependencies of road network traffic states, a spatial–temporal autoformer (STAF) network based on spatial–temporal sequence autocorrelation is employed for traffic state prediction. The results indicate that the STAF method demonstrates good performance in medium‐ and long‐term prediction. The analysis and planning of suburban traffic flows is an extremely important task to ensure efficient and fluent traffic distribution in existing infrastructure. One of the main sources of this information from existing situations is origin–destination (OD) matrices, usually obtained from traffic CCTV cameras. In this paper, a novel method is proposed for the filtration of transit traffic from the overall traffic through the area. The main feature that differentiates this method from existing outlier (and thus transit traffic) detection methods is that it is focused solely on prolonged trips (which are believed to be caused by vehicles stopping in the investigated area). Initial calibration of the method on training data (sample size of N = 216,159 trips through paired detectors) and verification on test data prove the accuracy of the algorithm on the level of 98% in urban and suburban areas, respectively, in Czech Republic conditions, which gives high hopes for the feasibility of the method. With the rapid evolution of intelligent driving technology, vehicle trajectory prediction has become a pivotal technique for enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency. In this domain, high-definition vector maps and graph neural networks (GNNs) play a vital role, supporting precise vehicle positioning and optimizing path planning, thereby improving the performance of intelligent driving systems. However, high-definition vector maps and traditional GNNs still encounter several challenges in trajectory prediction, such as high computational resource demands, long training times, and limited modeling capabilities for dynamic traffic environments and complex interactions. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an adaptive edge generator method, this method dynamically constructs and optimizes the connections between nodes in the GNN architecture, effectively enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of trajectory prediction. Specifically, we classify nodes into dynamic and static nodes based on their attributes, and devise differentiated edge construction strategies accordingly. For dynamic nodes, we introduce a relative angle factor, enabling the attention model to comprehensively consider the distance and intersection status between nodes, resulting in more accurate computation of edge weights. For static nodes, we utilize a length threshold to assess the feasibility of establishing connections between vehicles and lane lines, determining whether a connection should be established. Through this approach, we successfully reduce the algorithmic complexity, increase computational speed, and maintain high trajectory prediction accuracy. Tests on the Argoverse motion prediction dataset demonstrate that trajectory prediction utilizing the adaptive edge generator achieves an average displacement error (ADE) of 0.6681, a final displacement error (FDE) of 0.9864, and a miss rate (MR) of 0.0952. Furthermore, the model parameters are significantly reduced, validating the effectiveness of the proposed vehicle trajectory prediction method based on the adaptive edge generator. The accurate and rapid detection of traffic signs is crucial for intelligent transportation systems. Aiming at the problems that traffic signs have including more small targets in road scenes as well as misdetection, omission, and low recognition accuracy under the influence of fog, we propose a model for detecting traffic signs in foggy road scenes—YOLO-TSF. Firstly, we design the CCAM attention module and combine it with the idea of local–global residual learning thus proposing the LGFFM to enhance the model recognition capabilities in foggy weather. Secondly, we design MASFFHead by introducing the idea of ASFF to solve the feature loss problem of cross-scale fusion and perform a secondary extraction of small targets. Additionally, we design the NWD-CIoU by combining NWD and CIoU to solve the issue of inadequate learning capacity of IoU for diminutive target features. Finally, to address the dearth of foggy traffic signs datasets, we construct a new foggy traffic signs dataset, Foggy-TT100k. The experimental results show that the mAP@0.5, mAP@0.5:0.95, Precision, and F1-score of YOLO-TSF are improved by 8.8%, 7.8%, 7.1%, and 8.0%, respectively, compared with YOLOv8s, which proves its effectiveness in detecting small traffic signs in foggy scenes with visibility between 50 and 200 m. Pedestrian two-stage crossings are common at large, busy signalized intersections with long crosswalks and high traffic volumes. This design aims to address pedestrian operation and safety by allowing navigation in two stages, negotiating each traffic direction separately. This paper presents a two-stage pedestrian crossing model based on Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs), incorporating fluid dynamics equations to determine characteristics such as speed, density, acceleration, and Reynolds number during crossings. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are globally installed in smart cities, which enable the next generation of ITS depending on the potential integration of autonomous and connected vehicles. Both technologies are being tested widely in various cities across the world. However, these two developing technologies are vital in allowing a fully automatic transportation system; it is necessary to automate other transportation and road components. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones are utilized for many surveillance applications in the ITS. Detecting on-ground vehicles in drone images is significant for disaster rescue operations, traffic and parking management, and navigating uneven territories. This study presents a flying foxes optimization with deep learning-based vehicle detection and classification model on aerial images (FFODL-VDCAI) technique for ITS application. The main objective of the FFODL-VDCAI technique is to automate and accurately classify vehicles that exist in aerial images. Three primary processes are involved in the presented FFODL-VDCAI technique. Initially, the FFODL-VDCAI approach utilizes YOLO-GD (Ghost-Net and Depthwise convolution) for vehicle detection, where the YOLO-GD uses lightweight Ghost Net in place on the backbone network of YOLO-v4 and interchanges the conventional convolutional with depthwise separable convolutional and pointwise convolutional. Next, the FFO technique is used for hyperparameter tuning the Ghost Net technique. Finally, a deep Q-network (DQN) based reinforcement learning technique is used to classify detected vehicles effectively. A comprehensive simulation analysis of the FFODL-VDCAI methodology is conducted on the UAV image dataset. High‐speed wide‐angle radio detection is crucial for intelligent wireless systems, autonomous vehicles, rescue operations in urgent situations, and security in various fields. This can be achieved through diverse controls of electromagnetic waves. Currently, multidimensional manipulations of electromagnetic waves are determined by dynamic antennas like phased arrays, mechanical beam‐steering radars, and programmable metasurface imagers. However, these methods face challenges in achieving rapid responses and large data collection intervals for high‐speed sensing and imaging, due to limitations in the speedy explication of analog‐to‐digital (AD) converters, electronic switches, phase shifters, and stepped motors for radiation beam reconfigurations. To address these challenges, advanced microwave‐to‐millimeter‐wave metasurfaces are introduced, designed to offer joint frequency, polarization, and spatial diversities. The metasurface with a disordered atom permutation enables wide‐angle sensing for accurate trajectory tracking of moving objects. On the other hand, a dispersion‐engineered atom arrangement allows the metasurfaces to facilitate wide‐angle through‐wall imaging, effective in detecting objects of varied shapes and positions. The experiments reveal that these metasurfaces can reconstruct objects at 100 frames per second (fps) from a single‐shot measurement, allowing 0.3x speed playback for detailed analysis. This demonstrates their potential in high‐speed sensing and imaging. The prediction of bike-sharing demand plays a pivotal role in the optimization of intelligent transportation systems, particularly amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has significantly altered travel behaviors and demand dynamics. In this study, we examine various spatiotemporal influencing factors associated with bike-sharing and propose the Local-Global Dynamic Multi-Graph Convolutional Network (LGDMGCN) model, driven by multi-source data, for multi-step prediction of station-level bike-sharing demand. In the temporal dimension, we dynamically model temporal dependencies by incorporating multiple sources of time semantic features such as confirmed COVID-19 cases, weather conditions, and holidays. Additionally, we integrate a time attention mechanism to better capture variations over time. In the spatial dimension, we consider factors related to the addition or removal of stations and utilize spatial semantic features, such as urban points of interest and station locations, to construct dynamic multi-graphs. The model utilizes a local-global structure to capture spatial dependencies among individual bike-sharing stations and all stations collectively. Experimental results, obtained through comparisons with baseline models on the same dataset and conducting ablation studies, demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model in predicting bike-sharing demand. The intelligent transportation systems (ITS) using radio frequency (RF) face challenges like interference and limited bandwidth compared to visible light communication (VLC). Integrating vehicular VLC (V-VLC) utilizing the existing light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in automobiles could provide a complementary approach to mitigate RF constraints. Performance degradation by background noise from sunlight can undermine signal quality. So, improving performance and managing interference are the keys to better V-VLC operation. This work proposes a solar noise suppression method for a V-VLC system, leveraging Allan variance and an extended Kalman filter (EKF). Based on the obtained Allan variance, updates are made to the observation model, state vector, and observation noise covariance matrix to achieve superior performance. Minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization is used. The proposed filter efficiently minimizes the notable autocorrelation triggered by the solar noise, resulting in a bit error rate (BER) reduction of approximately 88% compared to the system without the adaptive filter. This increased convergence highlights the possibility of higher communication performance and reliability. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs), which are the backbone of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs), facilitate critical data exchanges between vehicles. This necessitates secure transmission, which requires guarantees of message availability, integrity, source authenticity, and user privacy. Moreover, the traceability of network participants is essential as it deters malicious actors and allows lawful authorities to identify message senders for accountability. This introduces a challenge: balancing privacy with traceability. Conditional privacy-preserving authentication (CPPA) schemes are designed to mitigate this conflict. CPPA schemes utilize cryptographic protocols, including certificate-based schemes, group signatures, identity-based schemes, and certificateless schemes. Due to the critical time constraints in VANETs, efficient batch verification techniques are crucial. Combining certificateless schemes with batch verification leads to certificateless aggregate signature (CLAS) schemes. In this paper, cryptanalysis of Xiong's CLAS scheme revealed its vulnerabilities to partial key replacement and identity replacement attacks, alongside mathematical errors in the batch verification process. Our proposed CLAS scheme remedies these issues by incorporating an identity authentication module that leverages chameleon hashing within elliptic curve cryptography (CHAM-CLAS). The signature and verification modules are also redesigned to address the identified vulnerabilities in Xiong's scheme. Additionally, we implemented the small exponents test within the batch verification module to achieve Type III security. While this enhances security, it introduces a slight performance trade-off. The development of artificial intelligence (AI) and self-driving technology is expected to enhance intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) by improving road safety and mobility, increasing traffic flow, and reducing vehicle emissions in the near future. In an ITS, each autonomous vehicle acts as a node with its own local machine learning models, which can be updated using locally collected data. However, for autonomous vehicles to learn effective models, they must be able to learn from data sources provided by other vehicles and infrastructure, utilizing innovative learning methods to adapt to various autonomous driving scenarios. Distributed learning plays a crucial role in implementing these learning tasks in an ITS. This review provides a systematic overview of distributed learning in the field of ITSs. Within an ITS, vehicles can engage in distributed learning by interacting with peers through opportunistic encounters and clustering. This study examines the challenges associated with distributed learning, focusing on issues related to privacy and security in data intelligence sharing, communication quality and speed, and trust. Through a thorough analysis of these challenges, this study presents potential research avenues to address these issues, including the utilization of incentive mechanisms that rely on reputation, the adoption of rapid convergence techniques, and the integration of opportunistic federated learning with blockchain technology. Double parking has many negative effects on traffic indicators such as traffic congestion, traffic flow conditions, and traffic safety. Double parking includes parameters that affect drivers' behavioral and traffic habits. Various inspection activities and penal sanctions are implemented to prevent parking violations. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to detect double parking with the YOLOv8 model, one of the deep learning algorithms. In this direction, a data set consisting of a total of 891 images was created, taking into account the streets with high traffic density in İzmit and Erzurum. As a result of the YOLO model, the measurement parameter F1 score value was obtained as 0.83. The mAP@0.5 values of the model for double parking, normal parking and the entire data set were obtained as 0.851, 0.922 and 0.886, respectively. When other performance parameters were examined, it was concluded that the model successfully detected the double parking situation. According to the model performance results, 89% of double and normal parking situations were detected correctly. A data set infrastructure has been created for studies on the detection of double parking. Vehicle detection in remote sensing images is a crucial aspect of intelligent transportation systems. It plays an essential role in road planning, congestion control, and road construction in cities. However, detecting vehicles in remote sensing images is challenging due to their small size, high density, and noise. Most current detectors that perform well in conventional scenes fail to achieve better results in this context. Thus, we propose a quad-layer decoupled network to improve the algorithm's performance in detecting vehicles in remote sensing scenes. This is achieved by introducing modules such as a Group Focus downsampling structure, a quad-layer decoupled detector, and the GTAA label assignment method. Experiments demonstrate that the designed algorithm achieves a mean average precision (mAP) of 49.4 and operates at a speed of 3.0 ms on the RTX3090 within a multi-class vehicle detection dataset constructed based on the xView dataset. The platooning of cars and trucks is a pertinent approach for autonomous driving due to the effective utilization of roadways. The decreased gas consumption levels are an added merit owing to sustainability. Conventional platooning depended on Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC)-based vehicle-to-vehicle communications. The computations were executed by the platoon members with their constrained capabilities. The advent of 5G has favored Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to adopt Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) in platooning paradigms by offloading the computational tasks to the edge server. In this research, vital parameters in vehicular platooning systems, viz. latency-sensitive radio resource management schemes, and Age of Information (AoI) are investigated. In addition, the delivery rates of Cooperative Awareness Messages (CAM) that ensure expeditious reception of safety-critical messages at the roadside units (RSU) are also examined. However, for latency-sensitive applications like vehicular networks, it is essential to address multiple and correlated objectives. To solve such objectives effectively and simultaneously, the Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MADDPG) framework necessitates a better and more sophisticated model to enhance its ability. In this paper, a novel Cascaded MADDPG framework, CMADDPG, is proposed to train cascaded target critics, which aims at achieving expected rewards through the collaborative conduct of agents. The estimation bias phenomenon, which hinders a system's overall performance, is vividly circumvented in this cascaded algorithm. Eventually, experimental analysis also demonstrates the potential of the proposed algorithm by evaluating the convergence factor, which stabilizes quickly with minimum distortions, and reliable CAM message dissemination with 99 % probability. The average AoI quantity is maintained within the 5–10 ms range, guaranteeing better QoS. This technique has proven its robustness in decentralized resource allocation against channel uncertainties caused by higher mobility in the environment. Visible light communication (VLC) is considered to be a promising technology for realizing intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) and solving traffic safety problems. Due to the complex and changing environment and the influence of weather and other aspects, there are many problems in channel modeling and performance analysis of vehicular VLC. Unlike existing studies, this study proposes a practical vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) VLC propagation model for a typical mountain road. The model consists of both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) links. In the proposed model, the effects of vehicle mobility and weather conditions are considered. To analyze the impact of the considered propagation characteristics on the system, closed-form expressions for several performance metrics were derived, including average path loss, received power, channel capacity, and outage probability. Furthermore, to verify the accuracy of the derived theoretical expressions, simulation results were presented and analyzed in detail. The results indicate that, considering the LOS link and when the vehicle is 50 m away from the infrastructure, the difference in channel gain between moderate fog and dense fog versus clear weather conditions is 1.8 dB and 3 dB, respectively. In addition, the maximum difference in total received optical power between dense fog conditions and clear weather conditions can reach 76.2%. Moreover, under clear weather conditions, the channel capacity when vehicles are 40 m away from infrastructure is about 98.9% lower than when they are 10 m away. Additionally, the outage probability shows a high correlation with the threshold data transmission rate.
