4. Excellent catalytic performance over reduced graphene-boosted novel nanoparticles for oxidative desulfurization of fuel oil

Abstract

Three new inorganic–organic hybrid nanocomposites (In–WO3@rGO, Mo–WO3@rGO, and Mn–WO4@rGO) were synthesized by hydrothermal method and applied for recoverable and efficacious ODS process of real oil. The physicochemical analysis of novel nanocatalysts was conducted by various techniques, i.e., powder X-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. XRD and SEM analyses depicted that the nanoparticles (In–WO3, Mn–WO4, and Mo–WO3) were well embellished on the exterior of reduced GO with an amazing morphology, having a crystallite size of less than 40 nm. The catalytic activity of nanocomposites was scrutinized for real fuel (diesel and kerosene) and model fuel (DBT) using the radical initiator mechanism of the ODS pathway. Excellent efficiency can be obtained under optimized conditions using 0.1 g catalyst, 1 mL oxidant (H2O2), and100 ppm DBT at 40°C with a time duration of 180 min. Various factors such as time, DBT concentration, catalyst amount, oxidant amount, and temperature that affect catalytic activity directly or indirectly were also studied. A pseudo-first-order kinetics model was followed, and due to spontaneous reaction, a negative value of ΔG was observed with an activation energy of 6.54 kJ/mol for Mo–WO3@rGO, which is lower than that of the other two hybrids. The synthesized nanohybrids showed remarkable durability and recovery up to five times for the ODS process without significant change in proficiency.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite/magnetite (HA-Fe3O4) nanocomposite materials that have the synergistic ability to produce heat when in direct bonding with a bone through HA are regarded competent hyperthermia therapies of bone carcinoma treatment. HA-Fe3O4 nanocomposites with various magnetite concentrations (10, 20, and 30 wt%) were quickly synthesized using a novel continuous microwave-assisted flow synthesis (CMFS) process in a 5 min residence duration at the conditions of pH 11. In this process, initially, phase pure hydroxyapatite and superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles followed by a series of HA-Fe3O4 nanocomposites were formed, without a subsequent aging step. The obtained nano-product was physically analyzed using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction analysis. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used for the chemical structure analysis of the final nanocomposite product. Zeta potential measurements were carried out to determine colloidal stability associated with the surface charge of the nanocomposites. The magnetic properties were determined using a vibrating sample magnetometer. The results indicated the high magnetization property of the obtained nanoproduct, suitable for hyperthermia application. HA-Fe3O4 nanocomposites have shown remarkable antimicrobial properties against E. coli and S. cerevisiae. Thus, the CMFS system facilitated the rapid production of HA-Fe3O4 nanocomposite particles with fine particle size.

43. Catalytic Activity of MnWO4@g-C3N4 and CuWO4@g-C3N4 Nano-Composites for Green Fuel Production.

Abstract

The present study successfully synthesized MnWO4@g-C3N4 and CuWO4@g-C3N4 nanocomposites which demonstrated high efficiency and recoverability as a robust catalyst for ODS of model (DBT) and real fuel oil (kerosene and diesel). The manufactured composites were thoroughly characterized using XRD, TGA, FTIR, SEM and EDX confirming its physicochemical properties. The SEM results revealed that MnWO4 and CuWO4 nanoparticles were well organized on the exterior of g-C3N4 forming interesting spherical particle morphology. Under optimized conditions, the nanocomposites MnWO4@g-C3N4 and CuWO4@g-C3N4 exhibited an impressive 98 and 98.5% removal of DBT, respectively from the model fuel (100 mg/L) within 180 min at a temperature of 45 °C using 1 mL of oxidant and 0.1 g of catalyst amount. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of composites was investigated for real fuel desulfurization and promising results were achieved. Moreover, the fuel properties were in accordance with ASTM specifications. The study found that the desulfurization reaction followed the pseudo 1st order kinetic models and the negative ∆G indicated a spontaneous method. The nanocomposites exhibited promising reusability as it could be used up to five times without significantly reducing their ability to desulfurize fuel oil. The study highlights its potential for practical applications in reducing sulfur content in fuel oils contributing to cleaner and environment friendly energy production and utilization.
