2. Detection of subclinical atherosclerosis by image-based deep learning on chest x-ray

Abstract

Aims. To develop a deep-learning based system for recognition of subclinical atherosclerosis on a plain frontal chest x-ray. Methods and Results. A deep-learning algorithm to predict coronary artery calcium (CAC) score (the AI-CAC model) was developed on 460 chest x-ray (80% training cohort, 20% internal validation cohort) of primary prevention patients (58.4% male, median age 63 [51-74] years) with available paired chest x-ray and chest computed tomography (CT) indicated for any clinical reason and performed within 3 months. The CAC score calculated on chest CT was used as ground truth. The model was validated on an temporally-independent cohort of 90 patients from the same institution (external validation). The diagnostic accuracy of the AI-CAC model assessed by the area under the curve (AUC) was the primary outcome. Overall, median AI-CAC score was 35 (0-388) and 28.9% patients had no AI-CAC. AUC of the AI-CAC model to identify a CAC>0 was 0.90 in the internal validation cohort and 0.77 in the external validation cohort. Sensitivity was consistently above 92% in both cohorts. In the overall cohort (n=540), among patients with AI-CAC=0, a single ASCVD event occurred, after 4.3 years. Patients with AI-CAC>0 had significantly higher Kaplan Meier estimates for ASCVD events (13.5% vs. 3.4%, log-rank=0.013). Conclusion. The AI-CAC model seems to accurately detect subclinical atherosclerosis on chest x-ray with elevated sensitivity, and to predict ASCVD events with elevated negative predictive value. Abstract

The recognition of actions performed by humans and the anticipation of their intentions are important enablers to yield sociable and successful collaboration in human-robot teams. Meanwhile, robots should have the capacity to deal with multiple objectives and constraints, arising from the collaborative task or the human. In this regard, we propose vision techniques to perform human action recognition and image classification, which are integrated into an Augmented Hierarchical Quadratic Programming (AHQP) scheme to hierarchically optimize the robot's reactive behavior and human ergonomics. The proposed framework allows one to intuitively command the robot in space while a task is being executed. 6. Learning Cooperative Dynamic Manipulation Skills from Human Demonstration Videos

Abstract

This article proposes a method for learning and robotic replication of dynamic collaborative tasks from offline videos. The objective is to extend the concept of learning from demonstration (LfD) to dynamic scenarios, benefiting from widely available or easily producible offline videos. To achieve this goal, we decode important dynamic information, such as the Configuration Dependent Stiffness (CDS), which reveals the contribution of arm pose to the arm endpoint stiffness, from a three-dimensional human skeleton model. Next, through encoding of the CDS via Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and decoding via Gaussian Mixture Regression (GMR), the robot's Cartesian impedance profile is estimated and replicated. We demonstrate the proposed method in a collaborative sawing task with leader-follower structure, considering environmental constraints and dynamic uncertainties. The experimental setup includes two Panda robots, which replicate the leader-follower roles and the impedance profiles extracted from a two-persons sawing video.

Abstract

BackgroundThere is increasing evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted childhood immunization services. However, detailed reports on immunizations and preventive antimalarial prophylactic treatments delivered and how the trends changed in referral centers in low-income countries are still missing. MethodsWe performed a retrospective cross-sectional study. Data for vaccinations administered to children <5 years of age, according to the local vaccination schedule, were extracted from the official records of the Kent Community Health Post, Sierra Leone, in the period between April 2019 and March 2021. We compared the vaccinations performed in the first year, considered as a pre-Covid period, with the second year, post-Covid period. Both the period was then divided in four trimester each and the same analysis was operated for each trimester. A Chi-square goodness of fit test was performed to compare the number of vaccinations performed both in the 2 years and in the 8 trimesters. FindingsSeven thousand two hundred and eighty-three vaccinations were administered: 4,641 in the period between April 2019 and March 2020 and 2,642 between April 2020 and March 2021. The drop in immunizations performed began as soon as the first cases were described in China. The drops were statistically significant when the first three trimesters of the two study periods were compared, while no statistically significant differences were observed for all the vaccines performed in the 4th trimesters. Vaccines administered at birth (BCG) were less affected compared to booster vaccinations. ConclusionsImmunizations administered in a referral health center in Sierra Leone significantly declined during the pandemic. Although the decline was less pronounced in the last months of the pandemic, we don't think that the small increase would indicate the recovery of previously missed vaccinations. These findings open new public health challenges for the coming years.

40. Hri30: An action recognition dataset for industrial human-robot interaction

Abstract

Over the past years, action recognition techniques have gained significant attention in computer vision and robotics research. Nevertheless, their performances in realistic applications, despite dedicated efforts to collect and annotate medium/large datasets, remain far from satisfactory, especially when it comes to applications in the field of human-robot collaboration. In response to this shortfall, we create a dataset not dispersive in its classes but sectoral, i.e., dedicated exclusively to the industrial environment and human-robot collaboration. Specifically, we describe our ongoing collection of the 'HRI30' database for industrial action recognition from videos, containing 30 categories of industrial-like actions and 2940 manually annotated clips. We test our dataset on multiple action detection approaches and compare it with the HMDB51 and UCF101 public datasets using the best-performing approach. We define a baseline of 86.55\% Top-1 accuracy and 99.76\% Top-5 accuracy, hoping that this dataset will encourage research towards understanding actions in collaborative industrial scenarios.
