Antibiotics have played a crucial role in significantly reducing the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) infection worldwide. Even before the mid‐20th century, the mortality rate of TB onset within five years was around 50 %. So, the introduction of antibiotics has changed the scenario of TB from a serious threat to a manageable one. However, the emergence of resistance to anti‐TB drugs poses a significant challenge. So, to overcome this situation the therapeutic approaches and drug targets need to be reformed. This study focused on finding potential inhibitors by targeting Pantothenate Synthetase, a crucial enzyme for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) survival, through computational drug discovery methods. Molecular docking and virtual screening were employed to identify potential inhibitors from Diverse‐lib. Four compounds, namely CID2813602, 24357538, CID753354, and CID4798023, exhibited strong binding energies and stable interaction with the target protein. Further assessment of these compounds through MD simulation and Post MD simulation showed significant dynamic stability. The minimum energy transition calculated using the free energy landscape analysis of these compounds when docked with Pantothenate Synthetase confirmed the stability of each complex due to its minimum energy production. The free binding energy calculation of each complex also showed the intramolecular interaction contributes to the strong binding affinity of the compounds within the enzyme's active site clarifying their mechanisms of action. This research showcases the effectiveness of computational methods in promptly identifying potential anti‐TB drugs, paving the way for future experimental validation and optimization. The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared mpox a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS) in Africa. African public health systems have moved to mobilize a response against a backdrop of inherent significant challenges. With this commentary, we discuss how lessons from past public health emergencies, particularly COVID-19 and Ebola outbreaks, have prepared the region for improved disease surveillance, rapid response strategies, and effective public health communication and how these lessons can be applied to the mpox response, emphasizing the importance of strong healthcare infrastructure, effective data sharing, community engagement, targeted interventions, and robust contact tracing. Additionally, addressing misinformation and building public trust are crucial for controlling the spread of any disease. By leveraging these strategies, African countries can enhance their response to mpox. This includes improving diagnostic capabilities, strengthening cross-border collaborations, and prioritizing vaccination campaigns where needed. Ultimately, by applying the hard-earned lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and Ebola outbreak, the East Africa region can better address the challenges posed by mpox and safeguard public health. Introduction: several studies have shown that older people have a higher risk of exposure to viral hepatitis B and C than younger people. This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B and C and their associated factors in people aged 45+ years old in Burera, a rural district of Rwanda. Methods: a cross sectional study was conducted from July to December 2017 during a mass campaign of hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) screening and vaccination of eligible populations against HBV in Burera District. Blood samples were collected and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and an antibody against hepatitis C (Anti-HCV) were detected using an Enzyme-Linked Immuno-Sorbent Assay (ELISA). The associated factors were identified using a structured questionnaire and the data was analyzed using SPSS software. Results: of the 374 people included in this study, 53.2% were females. The median age was 56 years old with an interquartile range (IQR) of 50 - 63 years old. The prevalence of HBV and HCV infection was 6.4% and 9.4%, respectively, with 0.3% co-infection rate. Age, social economic level, history of blood transfusion, history of never using a condom, as well as a history of injury with a used sharp material were significantly associated with HCV infection. Conclusion: the study showed a high seroprevalence of both HBV and HCV in Burera's elderly population aged 45+ years. Several factors associated with HBV and HCV in this study could be prevented through education and improved hygiene. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
