In this paper, we introduce the concept of ‘societal emotional environment’: the emotional climate of a society (operationalized as the degree to which positive and negative emotions are expressed in a society). Using data collected from 12,888 participants across 49 countries, we show how societal emotional environments vary across countries and cultural clusters, and we consider the potential importance of these differences for well-being. Multilevel analyses supported a ‘double-edged sword’ model of negative emotion expression, where expression of negative emotions predicted higher life satisfaction for the expresser but lower life satisfaction for society. In contrast, partial support was found for higher societal life satisfaction in positive societal emotional environments. Our study highlights the potential utility and importance of distinguishing between positive and negative emotion expression, and adopting both individual and societal perspectives in well-being research. ÖZET Bu araştırmada, bireyin belirli bir görevi yerine getirebilmek ve istenilen sonuçlara ulaşabilmek için sahip olduğu yetkinliklere ne kadar inandığını gösteren ^Öz-Yeterlilik` olgusu, Genel Yeterlilik ve Rol Yeterliliği çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Sosyal Bilişsel Teori tarafından insan davranışlarının temelini oluşturduğu belirtilen Temel Yetkinlikler baz alınarak, Genel Yeterlilik İnananı ölçebilecek yeni bir soru formu geliştirilmiştir. Genel Yeterlilik, bir göreve veya alana spesifik olmayan, yaşamın farklı alanlarına genellenebilecek bir inanç düzeyidir ve bu araştırmanın temel varsayımı, bu düzeyde bir analız yapılabilmesi için insan davranışına altyapı oluşturan temel yetkinliklerin dikkate alınması gerektiğidir. Bu yönde geliştirilen ölçüm aracı, Proaktif Davranış, Kendini Ayarlama, Duygusal Kontrol ve Kendini Sorgulama temel yetkinliklerini içeren bir faktör yapısı ortaya çıkartmıştır. General Efficacy is the belief that the individual has confidence in their competencies to deal with the requirements of different tasks and domains. In order to assess General Efficacy, a new questionnaire was developed by taking the basic competencies of human behavior as defined in Social Cognitive Theory. As a result Proactivity, Self- Regulation, Emotional Control and Self-Reflection were the main dimensions of General Efficacy. These dimensions and also general efficacy determined Role Efficacy level of the managers. iv 167

ÖZET Kariyer, çalışma hayatı boyunca yapılan işleri, bulunulan pozisyonları ve çalışan kişinin bulunduğu bu konum ile alakalı tutum ve davranışlarını içeren bir süreçtir (Gutteridge, 1986). Çalışma hayatında edinilen deneyimlerin hepsi, bireyin kariyer gelişiminin basamaklarıdır. Bu gelişme, hem kişinin bireysel esasta gösterdiği çabalara (yani, kariyer planlama) hem de işletmelerin birey için çeşitli kariyer yolları, alternatifler ve gelişmeye yönelik faaliyetler sunmasına (yani kariyer yönetimi) bağlıdır. Eleman-işletme birlikteliği içinde kariyer gelişiminin gerçekleşmesi, kariyer geliştirme fonksiyonu kapsamında yerleştirilmesi gereken "kariyer geliştirme sistemi" aracılığıyla sağlanabilir. Bu araştırmada da, bu kategoriler altında yer alan toplam 32 faaliyet arasında kaç tanesinin, merkezi İstanbul'da kurulu olan işletmelerde uygulandığı ve bu faaliyetler arasında en sık rastlanılanın hangisi olduğu incelenmektedir. Bu kariyer geliştirme faaliyetleri arasında, uygulamada en çok rastlanılanı, son yıllarda kazandığı önemden de anlaşılacağı üzere "gelişim programlan" kategorisinde yer alan "eğitimlerdir. Eğitimin bir kariyer geliştirme faaliyeti olması, eğitim amaçlarının da gerçekten kariyer geliştirmeye yönelik olup olmadığı sorusunu akla getirmektedir. Bu amaçla literatürde yapılan taramalar, eğitim amaçlarının pratik ve gelişme amaçlan olmak üzere iki vkategoride incelenebileceğini ortaya koymuştur. Pratik amaçlar kategorisinde; diğer işletmelerle rekabet, terfi şansını yükseltme, ücretleri belirlemek, performansı iyileştirme, işden ayrılma eğilimini azaltma amaçları yer alırken; gelişme amaçlan kategorisinde, eleman ve işletmenin amaçlarını netleştirip/uyumlaştırmak, mesleki gelişmeleri takip etmek, kariyer seçeneklerinden birini seçerek hedef/planlan belirlemek, terfi edebilecek niteliklere sahip eleman sayısını arttırmak, kariyer yolları/seçenekleri gibi konularda elemanları bilgilendirmek amaçları yer almaktadır. işte işletmelerin uyguladığı kariyer faaliyetlerini ve bu kapsamda uyguladıkları eğitim programlarının amaçlarını belirlemek amacıyla merkezi İstanbul'da olan 13 işletmede bir araştırma düzenlenmiştir. Bu kapsamda bu işletmelerin insan kaynakları/eğitim bölümü yöneticileri ile ve bu işletmelerde çalışan toplam 154 eleman ile görüşülmüştür. Araştırmaya elemanlar, eğitim programlarının düzenlenme amaçlan ile bu eğitimlere katılan çalışanların amaçları arasında bir karşılaştırma yapılabilmesi için dahil edilmiştir. Bulgular, kariyer geliştirmenin bir sistem olarak var olduğu söylenen işletmelerin sayısının 9 olduğunu ve bu işletmelerdeki uygulamaların daha çok kariyer yönetimine ağırlık verdiğini göstermektedir. Bu işletmelerde 32 faaliyetten ortalama olarak 18 tanesi uygulamada yer almaktadır, işletmelerde en sık rastlanan faaliyetler, kategori bazında bakıldığında "gelişme programlan" ve "uygun işe yerleştirme süreçleredir. Eğitim amaçları arasında gelişme ile ilgili amaçlar pratik amaçlara göre hem yöneticiler hem de elemanlar tarafından daha fazla tercih edilmiştir. Pratik amaçlardan "performansın iyileşmesi" her iki denek grubunca en fazla tercih edilen amaçtır. Bu amaç "rekabet" amacı ile birlikte, daha sonra yapılan faktör analizi sonuçlarına göre gelişme ile ilgili amaçlar arasında yer almıştır. Gelişme amaçları arasında ise, "hedeflerin netleşip /uyumlaşması" yöneticiler tarafından, "mesleki gelişmeleri takip etme" ise elemanlar tarafından en sıklıkla tercih vıedilen amaçlan oluşturmuştur. Amaç tercihleri açısından eleman ve yönetici grupları arasındaki fark sadece 4 amaç için elde edilmiştir. Yöneticiler "rekabet" ve "terfi" amaçlarını daha sık tercih ederken, elemanlar "ücret" ve "mesleki gelişmeleri takip etme " amacını daha sıklıkla tercih etmişlerdir. Kariyer geliştirme sistemi dar kapsamlı olan işletmeler geniş kapsamlıya göre "terfi" ve "ücret belirleme" amaçlarını kendi eğitim amaçlarına daha uygun bulmuştur, geniş kapsamlı işletmeler ise "kariyer hakkında bilgilendirme" amacını daha uygun olarak değerlendirmiştir. Hizmet sektöründeki işletmeler ise, "rekabet" amacını üretim/pazarlamaya göre daha uygun bulmaktadır. vııABSTRACT Career is the sequence of work experiences and related activities, behaviours, and the associated attitudes, values and aspirations over a span of one's life (Gutteridge, 1986). Based on this definition, all of the experiences one had during the work life form the steps of career development. However, this development is dependent on both the employee's effort on the individual basis (career planning) and also the opportunities provided on the institutional basis (career manegement). Both of these processes constitute the career development function whose objective is the realization of individual development by the mutual focus of organization and employee. This purpose is tried to be achieved by constructing a system called "career development system" which involves comprehensive development activities. The tools or the activities that would be incorporated within the career system can be categorised under 6 headings. Those are: self-assessment tools, individual counseling, internal labor market information/placement exchanges, organizational potential assessment processes, job matching systems and developmental programs. Under these categories, 32 spesific career activities are included. This research too was designed to investigate which categories and spesific activities of career development system are mostly applied in the Turkish organizations. Among those activities, literature reviews and the observations in the practical business life show that developmental programs and especially the training programs are the most frequently incorporated ones. Based on this assumption, the question of whether these training activities are aimed toward the individual career development or not may preoccupy the minds. For this purpose, following research tried to find out the training goals of the organizations whose budget share for training activities are large. In order to investigate this training goals are categorised under two headings: practicaland developmental goals. Both of these categories involve 5 spesific goals. Among the practical training goals, incresing organizational competence, increasing the chance of promotion, determination of the wage increases, improving performance and decreasing the turnover are included. On the other side, developmental goals include, matching the objectives of organization and the employee, following the occupational improvements, selecting one of the career alternatives/constructing the career plan, increasing the promotability and communicating important career information to the employees. Therefore, in order to find out the most frequently implemented career development activities and the goals selected as the objective of the training programs, a research was conducted within 13 organizations whose headquarters are established in Istanbul. Both the managers of human resource/education department (i.e., 13 managers) and the employees working in these organizations (154 employees) participated to the study. Employees also included to compare their objectives related to the training programs they participate with the goals of the organization for these they implement the training activities. Results showed that 9 of the 13 organizations declare that they have a career system and they approach to the subject more on the basis of career management. Moreover, it is found that avarage of 18 career activities are implemented in these organizations. Most frequently used categories of those activities were "developmental programs" and "job matching systems". When the preferences among the training goals which have been presented to subjects in a "force-choice format" are investigated, it is seen that developmental goals are more frequently prefered both by the managers and the employees against the practical goals. Among the practical training goals "improving performance" and the "organizational competence" were chosen most frequently. Actually, this two practical goals took place among the mdevelopmental goals when they are investigated with the factor analysis. Among the developmental goals, as the managers prefered the goal related to "matching employee-organization objectives" more, employees prefered goal of "following occupational improvements" more frequently. Difference between the employee and the manager goal preferences were obtained only on 4 of the training goals. According to these results, managers prefered "promotion" and "competence" more than the employees; and employees prefered "wage increases" and "following the occupational improvement" more than the managers. If the organizations included in the research sample categorised as those implementing career system on a narrow size or an extensive size, this two group differ in terms of the preferences they made on 4 of the training goals. Organizations that have narrow size career system find the goals related to "promotion" and "wage increases" more suitable to their own goals. On the other side, those that have extensive systems evaluates the goal of "communicating the career information" as more suitable to themselves. Similarly, those organizations functioning in the service sektör evaluates the "competence" goal more suitable than the organizations of production/marketing.

People care about their own well-being, but also about the well-being of their families. It is currently however unknown how much people tend to value their own and their family’s wellbeing. A recent study documented that people value family happiness over personal happiness across four cultures. In this study, we sought to replicate this finding across a larger sample size (N = 12,819) and a greater number of countries (N = 49), We found that the strength of the idealization of family over personal happiness preference was small (average Cohen’s ds = .20 with country levels varying from -.02 to almost .48), but ubiquitous, i.e., direction presented in 98% of the studied countries, 73-75% with statistical significance and < 2% variance across countries. We also found that the size of this effect did vary somewhat across cultural contexts. In Latin American cultures highest on relational mobility, the idealization of family over personal happiness was very small (average Cohen’s ds for Latin America = .15 and .18), while in Confucian Asia cultures lowest on relational mobility, this effect was closer to medium (ds > .40 and .30). Importantly, we did not find strong support for traditional theories in cross-cultural psychology that associate collectivism with greater prioritization of the family versus the individual; country level individualism-collectivism was not associated with variation in the idealization of family versus individual happiness. Our findings indicate that no matter how much various populists abuse the argument of “protecting family life” to disrupt emancipation, family happiness seems to be a pan-culturally phenomenon. Family well-being is a key ingredient of social fabric across the world, and should be acknowledged by psychology and well-being researchers, and by progressive movements too.

Past research has shown that economic inequality shapes individuals’ self-construals. However, it has been unclear which dimensions of self-construal are associated with and affected by economic inequality. A correlational (Study 1: N = 264) and an experimental study (Study 2: N = 532) provided converging evidence linking perceived economic inequality with two forms of independent (vs. interdependent) self-construal: Difference from Others and Self- Reliance. In Study 3 (N = 12,634) societal differences in objective economic inequality across 48 nations predicted feelings of Difference from Others, but not Self-Reliance. Importantly, we found no significant associations of economic inequality with the other six dimensions of self-construal. Our findings help extend previous results linking economic inequality to forms of “social distance.”

We explore to what extent previously observed pan-cultural association between dimensions of self-construal and personal life satisfaction (PLS) may be moderated by three national-contextual variables: national wealth, economic inequality, and religious heritage. The results showed that MSelf-reliance (vs. dependence on others) predicted PLSpositively in poorer countries but negatively in richer countries. Connectedness to others (vs. self-containment) predicted PLS more strongly in Protestant-heritage countries. Self-expression (vs. harmony) predicted PLS more weakly (and non-significantly) in Muslim-heritage countries. In contrast, previously reported associations of self-direction (vs. reception-to-influence), consistency (vs. variability), and decontextualized (vs. contextualized) self-understanding with personal life satisfaction were not significantly moderated by these aspects of societal context. These results show the importance of considering the impact of national religious and economic context.

How can one conclude that well-being is higher in country A than country B, when well-being is being measured according to the way people in country A think about well-being? We address this issue by proposing a new culturally sensitive method to comparing societal levels of well-being. We support our reasoning with data on life satisfaction and interdependent happiness focusing on individual and family, collected mostly from students, across forty-nine countries. We demonstrate that the relative idealization of the two types of well-being varies across cultural contexts and are associated with culturally different models of selfhood. Furthermore, we show that rankings of societal well-being based on life satisfaction tend to underestimate the contribution from interdependent happiness. We introduce a new culturally sensitive method for calculating societal well-being, and examine its construct validity by testing for associations with the experience of emotions and with individualism-collectivism. This new culturally sensitive approach represents a slight, yet important improvement in measuring well-being.

Birey-örgüt uyumu, 50 yılı aşkın bir süredir araştırmacıların üzerinde çalıştığı bir konu olmayı sürdürmektedir. Literatürdeki gelişmelerle birlikte, işverenler de insan kaynakları süreçlerinde, özellikle işe alım esnasında birey-örgüt uyumu kavramına dikkat etmeye başladılar. Bu çalışmada, şirketlerinde işe alımdan sorumlu 5 insan kaynakları profesyoneli ile görüşmeler yaptık. Geçmiş araştırmalara baktığımızda çoğunlukla işe alım sonrası döneme ilişkin yapıldığını veya daha çok uyum veya uyumsuzluk durumunun yarattığı sonuçları anlamaya çalıştığını görmekteyiz. Bu çalışmanın odak noktasını işe alımcıların, işe alım sürecinde `birey-örgüt uyumu` nu nasıl değerlendirdiği üzerine kurguladık. Bulgular gösteriyor ki, işe alımcıların `birey-örgüt uyumu` hakkında net bir tanımlaması bulunmamaktadır. Neredeyse tüm katılımcılarımız mülakatların birey-örgüt uyumunu ölçümlemek için yetersiz olduğunu belirtmiş olmasına rağmen, aynı zamanda birey-örgüt uyumunu ölçümlemek için doğru araçlara sahip olmadıklarını söylediklerini görmekteyiz.. Bununla birlikte, bulgularımız birey-örgüt uyumunun her organizasyon için aynı öneme sahip olmadığını göstermektedir. Bazı organizasyonlar için birey-örgüt diğerlerine göre daha önemli olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu çerçevede, çeşitlilik & dahil etme, gençleştirme, kültürel değişim gibi İK stratejilerinin şirketlerin birey-örgüt uyumu konusundaki bakış açılarının belirlenmesinde önemli olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Bulgularımızın ışığında geliştirdiğimiz, birey-örgüt uyumunun işe alım kararının verilmesindeki rolüne ilişkin çerçeve sistemi de bulabilirsiniz. Person-Organization fit has been one of the widely researched concepts over the last five decades amongst researchers. In line with the popularity of the concept among the researchers, employers have also begun to pay attention to organizational fit in their human resources practices, specifically in recruitment. In this study, we have interviewed 5 human resources professionals who are responsible for the employee selection process in their companies. When we look at the literature, most of the previous research has been conducted after the hiring stage or majorly concerned in assessing the outcomes of fit or misfit. This study is focused on how fit is actually assessed by recruiters in the pre-hire stage in employment selection process. Our findings suggest that, recruiters do not have a clear definition of what organizational fit means. Although almost all of the participants think that interviews are not enough to assess the P-O fit in the recruitment process yet most of them stated that they do not have adequate tools to assess organizational fit. The findings of the research also suggest that P-O fit is not equally important to each organization. There are some organizations where organizational fit is considered more important than others. It's worth mentioning that human resources strategies such as diversity & inclusion, rejuvenation, cultural transformation etc. are affecting organizational fit perspectives of the companies. We also present under emerging theory, a framework for the role of P-O fit in the decision making process in the light of our findings. 90

Bu çalışma tüketimin, iş tükenmişliğinin ve insanların harekete geçmesini sağlayan güdülerin arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmak amacıyla yapılmış bir inceleme araştırmasıdır. Bu çalışmanın amacı incelenen konular hakkındaki ileri araştırmalara kapı açmak, tüketimin, iş tükenmişliğinin ve BIS/BAS güdülerinin arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. BIS/BAS ölçeğinin, Kompülsif Tüketim ölçeğinin ve İş Talep-Kontrol-Destek ölçeğinin kullanımıyla çalışanların işlerini iyi yaptıktan sonra kendilerini alışverişle ödüllendirip ödüllendirmediği ve iş yüzünden oluşan olumsuz ruh hallerinden kurtulmak ve rahatlamak için alışveriş yapıp yapmadıkları incelenmiştir. İş Talep-Kontrol-Destek ölçeği ve Kompülsif Tüketim ölçeğinden faydalanılarak iş yerindeki ortam iyi olursa, bunun çalışanların iş tükenmişliğini ve kompülsif tüketim alışkanlıklarına sahip olma ihtimallerini azaltıp azaltmadığı araştırılmıştır. İletişim, bilgisayar bilimleri, tekstil ve bunun gibi sektörlerden toplam 175 katılımcı bu çalışmaya katılmıştır. Değişkenlerin ölçülmesi amacıyla, Kompülsif Tüketim ölçeği, BIS/BAS ölçeği ve İş İstek-Kontrol-Destek ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmacının bildiği ve araştırdığı kadarıyla, kompülsif tüketim ve onun iş tükenmişliğine olan etkisi daha önce Türkiye'de araştırılmadığından dolayı, bu araştırmanın ileride aynı konuda yapılacak araştırmalara yol açması umulmaktadır. Çalışmada kompülsif tüketim ve iş tükenmişliği arasında ilişki bulunamamıştır. Fakat, BIS/BAS güdüleri ve kompülsif tüketim arasında anlamlı ve pozitif ilişki bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, örgütsel desteğin ödül arama ve kompülsif tüketim arasında moderatör etkisi bulunduğu görülmüştür. Buna ek olarak, BIS in ödül arama ve kompülsif tüketim arasındaki ilişkide ve eğlence arayışının ödül arayışı ve kompülsif tüketim arasında mediator olduğu görülmüştür. This study is an exploratory research done to investigate the relation between compulsive consumption, job strain, and drives that push people to do something. The aim of this study is to open a door to investigation of these topics and to examine the relationship between consumption, job strain, and Behavioral Inhibition System / Behavioral Activation System (BIS/BAS) drives. With the use of Behavioral Inhibition / Activation System (BIS-BAS) scale, Compulsive Consumption scale, and Job Demand-Control-Support scale, it is examined if the shopping is an act to reward individuals when they do well at work and relax themselves from their negative mood caused by work. Moreover, with the use of Job Demand – Control – Support Scale and Compulsive Consumption Scale whether having a good work environment helps to diminish the chances of having job strain and developing compulsive consumption habits of employees was investigated. A total of 175 participants in the areas of communication, computer sciences, textile, etc. have participated in the study. As to the best of knowledge of researcher, compulsive consumption and its relation to job strain has never been examined in Turkey before, this research is designed to open the way for further investigation in the subject. It was found in this study that job strain has no significant relation with job strain and compulsive consumption. However, positive and significant relation between compulsive consumption and BIS/BAS have been identified. Moreover, a moderator role of organizational support in the relation of reward seeking and consumption have been identified. Furthermore, mediating role of BIS in the relationship between reward seeking and buying impulse has been identified, as well as the mediating role of reward seeking in the relationship of fun seeking and buying impulse. 124

Bu çalışmanın amacı bipolar bozukluk tanısı almış çalışanların iş ve işyeri deneyimlerini incelemektir. Modern dünyada, psikolojik bozukluk tanısı almış olan insanlar aldıkları tanılarını, dışlanma potansiyeli sebebiyle çeşitli sosyal ortamlardan üçüncü kişilerden, gruplardan veya kurumlardan gizleyebilir; ve iş ortamı listede ilk sırada yer almaktadır. Bu nedenle, günümüzün en önemli sosyal sorunlarından biri, psikolojik bozukluklara yönelik damgalanmaya karşı mücadele etmektir. `Bipolar bozukluk aynı zamanda semptomatik belirtileri ile az miktarda ilişkili görünen bir dizi sosyal ve mesleki komplikasyona sahiptir` (Goldberg & Harrow, 1999, s. 59). Açıkça, bu insanlar atakların ardından işlevsel olsalar bile, çoğu zaman iş ortamı onların çalışmasına izin vermekte isteksizdir. Çalışmanın temel araştırma soruları: Çalışma yaşamının hangi bileşenleri bipolar bozukluğu olan bir çalışanla ilişkilidir? Çalışma koşulları, çalışma ortamı ve profesyonel ilişkiler bipolar bozukluk tanısına sahip insanları nasıl etkiler? Bu çalışma, Türkiye'de bipolar bozukluğu olan çalışanların deneyimlerini içerecek ilk çalışma olacaktır. Amaç, sadece katılımcıların bireysel deneyimlerini ortaya koymak değil, aynı zamanda çalışma ortamında bipolar bozukluk üzerine yapılan kültürel bakış açısını da incelemektir. Yarı yapılandırılmış derinlemesine görüşmeler bipolar bozukluk tanısı almış ve iş tecrübesi olan on görüşmeci ile yapılmıştır. İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi'nin etik onayının ardından, İstanbul'daki ÇAPA Tıp Fakültesi (Psikiyatri Anabilim Dalı) ve Bipolar Yaşam Derneği aracılığıyla gönüllü katılımcılarla temasa geçildi. Örnekleme grubu beyaz yakalıdır ve bipolar 1 veya 2 tanısı almış olan kişilerden oluşmaktadır. Veriler, Yorumlayıcı Fenomenolojik Analiz'in analitik prensipleriyle MAXQDA nitel veri analiz programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada, temel bulgular ana temaların `mani döneminin iş yaşamına yansımaları`, `depresif dönemin iş yaşamına yansımaları`, `tanının paylaşılması`, `iş yaşamında yaşanılan zorluklar`, `çalışmak ve anlam` ve `toplum, insan kaynakları profesyonelleri ve ailenin tanıya bakış açısı` olduğunu göstermiştir. The present study aims to investigate the work and workplace experiences of employees with bipolar disorder. In the modern world, people diagnosed with psychological disorders may hide their psychological disorders from third people, groups, or institutions because of the potential for exclusion from various social settings; and, the work settings would take the first place in the list. Therefore, one of the significant social issues of today is to fight against the stigma attached to psychological disorders. Even if these people might be functional following the episodes, most of the time, the work settings are reluctant to let them work. Therefore, the main research question of the study is related to professional life of employees with bipolar disorder. How working conditions, work settings, and professional interrelationships affect them is the main focus of the current study which is the first research in Turkey on this target group. The aim is not just to reveal their individual experiences but also study cultural perspectives over bipolar disorder in working environment. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with ten interviewees who are diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After the ethics approval of İstanbul Bilgi University, Çapa Medical School in Istanbul (Psychiatry Department) and Bipolar Life Association in Istanbul are reached out for the volunteers to participate in the research. Inclusion criteria were being a white-collar employee (currently working and non-working) and being diagnosed with bipolar 1 or 2 disorders. MAXQDA qualitative data analysis program was used with the analytic principles of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to analyze data. The master themes emerged as follows: `the reflections of symptoms of mania in the workplace`, `the reflections of symptoms of depression in the workplace`, `disclosing the diagnosis`, `difficulties in work-life`, `working and meaning` and `society, family and human resources management professionals' perspectives on bipolar disorder`. 99

Bu çalışmanın amacı, LGB bireylerin ailelerine açılma süreçlerinde karşılaştıkları travmatik durumları derinlemesine anlamaktır. Bu amaçla LGB bireylerin; ailelerinde eşcinselliğin ve biseksüelliğin nasıl algılandığı, kendi cinsel yönelimlerine dair farkındalık ve kabul süreçlerini nasıl deneyimlediği, ailelerine açılırken ne gibi süreçlerden geçtikleri ve sıralanan tüm bu süreçlerin LGB bireyler açısından ne gibi travmatik durumları barındırdığı anlaşılmaya çalışılmıştır.Araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda lezbiyen, gey ve biseksüel cinsel yönelimlerinin her birinden ikişer kişi olmak üzere, toplam altı gönüllü katılımcı ile derinlemesine görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu görüşmeler 'Yorumlayıcı Fenomenolojik Analiz' yöntemine uygun olarak gerçekleştirilmiş ve yine bu yöntem kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bu analizler sonucu 28 adet ikinci düzey alt tema, 18 adet birinci düzey alt tema ve bu temaların ortak özelliklerine göre belirlenen 5 adet üst düzey temaya ulaşılmıştır. Bu üst düzey temalar; `Aile ve LGB Birey`, `LGB Bireylerin Cinsel Yönelimine Dair Farkındalık ve Kabul Süreci`, `Aileye Açılmak`, `Aileye Açılma Sonrası` ve `LGB'ler İçin ÖzgürlüğüTemsil Eden Koşullar` olarak sıralanır.Araştırmada elde edilen bulguların, birçok travmatik durumu barındırdığı görülmüştür. Bu bulgular mevcut literatürle karşılaştırılmış ve belirlenen her üst düzey tema, ilgili travma kavramı ile ilişkilendirilmiştir. Ayrıca, çalışmada klinik uygulamalara katkılar ve gelecek araştırmalara öneriler ele alınmıştır. The aim of this study is to provide an in-depth understanding of LGB individuals' traumatic experiences in disclosing to their families. For this purpose, how LGB individuals experienced the processes of the awareness and acceptance of their own sexual orientation, how homosexuality and bisexuality are perceived in their families, what processes they went through when disclosing to their families, andwhat traumatic experiences are involved through these processes have tried to be understood.For the purpose of the research, in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of six, two in each, volunteer participants on lesbian, gay and bisexual sexual oriented. These interviews were conducted in accordance with the 'Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis' method and analyzed using this method. As a result of these analyses, 28 second level subordinate themes, 18 first level subordinate themes and 5 superordinate themes determined according to the common characteristics of these themes were reached. These superordinate themes arelisted as `Family and LGB Individual`, `LGB Individual's Awareness and Acceptance Process of Their Own Sexual Orientation`, `Disclosure to Family`, `After Disclosure to Family` and `The Conditions Representing Freedom for LGB Individuals`.It was observed that the findings obtained in the study contain many traumatic experiences. These findings were compared with the existing literature and each superordinate theme is associated with the relevant concept of trauma. In addition, contributions to clinical practice and recommendations for future research were discussed. 161

Tarih boyunca, ilk üç sanayi devrinin getirdiği icatlarla insan yaşamının hem toplumsal hem de ekonomik olarak nasıl etkilendiğine şahit olduk. Ancak bugün, İlk Sanayi Devrimi'nden yaklaşık 200 yıl sonra, Sanayi 4.0 adı verilen Dördüncü Devrim'in eşiğinde bulunuyoruz. Bu dördüncü devriminin bunun bir kez daha çalışma ve gündelik hayatımız üzerinde derin etkileri olacağından emin olabiliriz. Fakat, Endüstri 4.0 ile ilgili oluşan literatüre rağmen, Endüstri 4.0'ın gelişim aşamalarını, gündelik hayat ve iş dünyası üzerindeki potansiyel etkilerini somut ve açık bir şekilde görmek oldukça zor gözükmektedir. Bu araştırma, sektörlerin dönüşümü, endüstriyel ve toplumsal ilişkilerin değişmesi anlamına gelen Endüstri 4.0 kavramını incelmektedir. Araştırma, Endüstri 4.0'ın değişen endüstriyel ortamdaki gelişim modeli ve potansiyel etkileşimini tahmin etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. İçerik analizi yaklaşımını kullanarak altı yüz yüze görüşme, on üç adet ikinci el veri (çevrimiçi) görüşme ve sekiz çevrimiçi dergi makalesi analize dahil edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, Endüstri 4.0 süreci ile ilgili on altı ana tema tespit edilmiş ve birincil argüman olarak da Endüstri 4.0 Gelişim Süreci Modeli önerilmiştir. Throughout history, we have witnessed how human life has been affected both socially and economically by the inventions brought about by the first three industrial revolutions. After 200 years of the first industrial revolution, today we are on the verge of a fourth revolution, which is called as Industry 4.0. We can be sure that this fourth revolution will have a profound effect on both our business and daily lives. Despite the burgeoning literature on the Industry 4.0, it is difficult to estimate the way it will progress and the potential impacts it will bring out to our lives and business world. This thesis addresses the concept of Industry 4.0, which infers the primary transformation of the industrial dynamics like business models, industrial relations and policies. The study was conducted with the purpose of developing an Industry 4.0 process model for Turkey and also estimating the effects of Industry 4.0 within the changing industrial environment. By using the content analysis approach, six face-to-face interviews, thirteen secondary data and eight online magazine articles were taken into the analysis. Consequently, sixteen themes on Industry 4.0 process were found out, and an Industry 4.0 Developmental Process Model as the primary argument is suggested. 153

Bu tez, geleneksel rollerin hakim olduğu aile yapısının çift kariyerli aile yapısına dönüşmesiyle birlikte çalışanların yaşadığı iş-aile çatışmasına bir çözüm olarak alternatif çalışma modelleri arayışına girmesini incelemektedir. Bu amaçla, özellikle, bir Türk katılım bankasında çalışan 14 anneyle doğum izni akabinde, esnek çalışma modeli (EÇM) kapsamında deneyimleri üzerine derinlemesine görüşme yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre, modelin tüm zorluklarına rağmen kadınlar `çalışan kadın` kimliğini korumak için esnek çalışma modelini tercih etmektedirler. Yöneticiler, model için en önemli figürlerden biri olarak, genellikle çalışma saatlerinin azalması ve ofis dışında çalışılmasından şikayet etmektedirler. Esnek çalışma modeli, tam zamanlı çalışanlar ile esnek çalışanlar arasındaki iletişimi zayıflatmakta; takım çalışmasını zorlaştırmakta ve iş tanımını basitleştirmektedir. İş güvencesi, ofisin yakınlığı, şirketteki teknolojik ilerlemeler ve 360 derece destek esnek çalışma modelinin verimliliğini arttıran öğelerdir. Ancak, çalışan anneler, tatmin edici insan kaynakları yönetimi politikalarının bulunmamasından muzdaripken; yöneticiler yarım kadro sisteminin eksikliğinden şikayetçidir. Son olarak, ulusal, endüstriye özgü ve kültürel özellikler dikkate alındığında, ideal esnek çalışma modelinin yapı taşları önerilmiştir. To this end, specifically, 14 employed mothers in a Turkish participation bank are deeply interviewed about their experience of flexible working model (FWM) after the end of maternal leave. The findings suggest that women prefer the flexible working model to keep their `working women` identity despite all the model's challenges. Managers, as one of the most important figure for the model, are generally complainant about decreased working hours and out-of-office working style. Moreover, the flexible working model weakens communication between full-time employees and flexible employed ones; hardens team work and simplifies job descriptions. Job security, proximity of office, technological advancement in company, and full support of all around women increase the efficiency of the flexible working model. However, the absence of satisfactory human resources management policies make employed mothers suffer from the flexible working model whereas the lack of half-staff system pressures managers. Finally, in the consideration of national, industry-specific and cultural characteristics, the building blocks of an ideal flexible working model are proposed. Bu çalışmanın amacı iş tatmini ve iş performansı arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktır. Nicel bir çalışmada, bir araştırmacı değişkenler arasındaki ilişkileri ya da bir değişkenin, diğer değişkenler üzerindeki nedensel etkisini istatiksel olarak irdeler. Bu istatiksel yaklaşım, basit ve anlaşılabilir bir analiz ve çalışma için çok önemlidir. Son yıllarda, farklı bilim alanlarında, çeşitli olgular üzerinde yürütülen nicel araştırmalardan elde edilen bulguların kümülatif şekilde değerlendirilmesi ve farklı olgular arasındaki korelasyonel ya da nedensel ilişkilere dair genel bir yargıya varılması için meta-analiz araştırmaları yapılmaktadır. Bu metodoloji çerçevesinde, bu tez kapsamında yürütülen araştırma da spesifik olarak iş tatmini ve iş performansı arasındaki ilişkiye dair Türkiye'den farklı örneklemlerle yapılmış nicel araştırmalardan elde edilen bulguları bir araya getirmek amacıyla yapılan bir meta-analiz çalışmasıdır. Bu kapsamda hangi değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiye bakılacağına karar verilme sürecinde, genel anlamda örgütsel ve bireysel performansı etkileyen faktörler üzerine araştırma yapılmıştır. Literatürle ile ilgili ön araştırma sonucunda, birçok çalışma incelenmiş olup, diğer faktörler ile kıyaslandığında iş tatmininin iş performansı üzerine etkisi ve ilişkisine dair daha fazla sayıda araştırma bulunduğu görülmüş ve bu ilişkiye yoğunlaşılmasına karar verilmiştir. Çalışmaların, meta-analize dahil edilmesi için makalelerin nicel bir çalışma olması ve etki büyüklüğünün hesaplanması için yeterli bilgiye sahip olması ve en önemli kriter olarak, örneklemlerinin sadece Türkiye'deki çalışanları içermesi gerekmektedir. Sonuç olarak, 12 makale, bir yüksek lisans tezi ve bir doktora tezi istenen seçim kriterlerini karşıladığı için meta-analiz çalışmasına dahil edilmesine karar verilmiştir. Analize dahil edilen 14 çalışmanın toplam örneklem büyüklüğü 4070'dir. İş tatmini ile iş performansı arasındaki korelasyonu inceleyen bu meta-analiz içerisinde en yüksek korelasyona sahip çalışma, Akkoç, Çalışkan ve Turunç (2012)'nin makalesidir (r=.530, p=.01). Minimum korelasyona sahip çalışma ise Gürbüz, Erkuş ve Sığrı (2010)'nın makalesidir (r=.087, p=.05). Meta-analitik çalışma Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software programı kullanılarak yürütülmüştür ve genel sonuçlara dayanarak; iş tatmini ile iş performansı olguları arasında pozitif ve istatiksel yönden anlamlı bir sonuç (r= .315, p= .000, k=14, N= 4070) elde edilmiş olup, bu ilişki etki büyüklüğü açısından orta ile büyük arasındaki bir seviyededir (Cohen, 1988). Ayrıca, 14 çalışma içerisinden dokuz çalışma örneklemleri açısından özel ve kamu sektörü olarak gruplanabilmektedir. Örneklemi, özel sektör çalışanlarını içeren altı çalışma, iş tatmini ile iş performansı arasında pozitif ve istatiksel yönden anlamlı bir sonuç (r= .258, p= .000, k=6, N= 1434) vardır; bu ilişkinin etki büyüklüğü küçük ile orta seviye arasında nitelendirilmiştir (Cohen, 1988). Örneklemi, kamu sektör çalışanlarını içeren üç çalışmaya ise yine pozitif ve istatiksel yönden anlamlı bir ilişki olduğunu (r= .339, p= .000, k=3, N= 341) ve bu ilişkinin orta ile büyük arasındaki bir etki düzeyi olduğunu göstermektedir (Cohen, 1988). The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between job satisfaction and job performance by using meta-analytic research methodology. In a quantitative research paper, researchers focus on a specific correlation between variables or the effect of a specific variable on other variables statistically. This approach is important and necessary for a simple and understandable research paper. In recent years, meta-analytic studies are carried out in order to assess cumulatively the findings of quantitative research. Researchers conduct it in different areas of science to make a general judgement about correlational or causal relationships. Within the framework of this research methodology, this thesis focuses on studies with samples from Turkey specifically and examines the relationship between job satisfaction and job performance. In the process of decision on variables to study meta-analytically, literature review has been conducted about factors that affect organizational and individual performance. In this phase, the studies about the effect and relationship of job satisfaction on job performance were more frequent than the other constructs and it was decided to concentrate on this relationship. The inclusion criteria were as follows: quantitative research with sufficient information for calculation of effect size on samples solely include employees from Turkey. Consequently, 12 articles, one master thesis and one doctorate thesis met these inclusion criteria. Total sample size of 14 studies is 4070. Among these fourteen studies; Akkoç, Çalışkan and Turunç (2012)'s study reported the highest correlation between job satisfaction and job performance (r=.530, p=.01). Gürbüz, Erkuş, and Sığrı (2010)'s study has the lowest correlation (r=.087, p=.05). Meta-analysis was conducted by using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software and overall results depicted that there is positive and statistically significant correlation (r= .315, p= .000, k=14, N= 4070) between job satisfaction and job performance and the effect size is medium to large level (Cohen, 1988). In addition, it was possible to categorize nine studies within 14 papers according to their samples. When six research papers with private sector employees only were investigated, there is positive and statistically significant correlation (r= .258, p= .000, k=6, N= 1434) again. According to Cohen (1988), this is small to medium effect. Furthermore, the three research papers out of 14 studies were investigated that included solely public sector employees as sample, the relationship is positive and statistically significant (r= .339, p= .000, k=3, N= 341). According to Cohen (1988), this is medium to large effect. In the discussion section, these general and sector specific effect sizes are interpreted and compared with the available meta-analytic research from the international literature. It was observed that these effect sizes ranging between small to large level are consistent with earlier research findings. 95

Mutluluk günümüzde günlük yaşamda ve iş yaşamında önemli bir kavramdır. Bu dönemde, psikologlar iyi oluş ve pozitif duyguları araştırmaya başlamışladır. Bu tez mutluluğun kavramları ile yaratıcılık arasındaki ilişkiyi ele almaktadır, mutluluk öznel ve psikolojik iyi olış olmak üzere iki alt başlık altında incelenmektedir. Birincisi hazza ulaşma ve acıdan kaçınma ile ilgilenirken, ikincisi kendini gerçekleştirme ve tam işleme odaklanmaktadır. Bu tezin amacı bu kavramlarla yaratıcılık arasında herhangi bir ilişki olup olmadığını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışan ve öğrenciler olmak üzere iki gruptan oluşan, 150 kişi bu çalışmadan yer almıştır. Çevrim içi anket kullanılmıştır. Oxford Mutluluk Ölçeği, Yaşam Doyum Ölçeği, Öznel İyi Oluş Ölçeği, Alternate Uses Yaratıcılık Ölçeği, Psikolojik İyi Oluş Ölçeği ve Poziif ve Negatif Duygulanım Ölçeği bu tezde yararlanılan ölçeklerdir. In this era, psychologists have started to investigate well-being and positive feelings. This thesis discusses the relationship between the concepts of happiness and creativity, happiness is studied under the two subheadings of subjective and psychological well-being. The first one deals with pleasure attainment and pain avoidance while the second one focuses on self-actualization and fully functioning. The aim of this thesis is to find out whether there is any correlation between these concepts and creativity or not. One hundred and fifty people, consisting of two groups as employees and students, participated in this research. Online survey was conducted. The Oxford Happiness Measure, The Satisfaction with Life Scale, The Subjective Well-Being Scale, Guilford's Alternative Uses Task, The Scales of Psychological Well-Being and Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) were utilized as scales in this thesis. Results show that there is a correlation between subjective and psychological well-being. On the other hand, the relationship between happiness and creativity is not statistically significant. Bu araştırmanın amacı, turizm endüstrisinde lider üye etkileşimini araştırmaktır. Bu çalışma, lider üye etkileşimi ile işten ayrılma niyeti arasındaki ilişki araştırmaktadır. Aynı zamanda bu ilişki üzerinde örgütsel bağlılığın ve örgütsel adaletin aracı etkisini incelemektedir. Çalışma, ağırlama sektöründe beş yıldızlı ve dört yıldızlı otellerde çalışan 108 kişiyi içermekte olup bunlardan 48 kişi kadın 56 kişi erkektir. Lider üye etkileşiminin kalitesi ile işten ayrılma niyeti arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmak için nicel yöntemler kullanılmıştır. Katılımcılara anket uygulanmış olup, ankette lider üye etkileşimi, etkileşimsel adalet, örgütsel bağlılık, işten ayrılma ölçekleri kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada ilk olarak lider üye etkileşimi ile örgütsel bağlılık arasındaki ilişkiye bakılmış ve bu ilişkide etkileşimsel adalet olgusunun aracılık etkisi incelenmiştir. İkinci olarak ise lider üye etkileşimi ile işten ayrılma niyeti arasındaki ilişkiye bakılmış ve bu ilişki üzerinde normatif bağlılığın aracı etkisi incelenmiştir. Etkileşimsel adalet ve örgütsel bağlılığın aracı etkisini saptamak adına öncelikle korelasyon analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sonuca göre lider üye etkileşimi ile işten ayrılma niyeti üzerinde negatif ve lider üye etkileşimi ile normatif bağlılık ve etkileşimsel adalet arasında pozitif bir ilişki olduğu bulunmuştur. Son olarak, normatif bağlılık ile işten ayrılma niyeti arasında olumsuz bir ilişki olduğu saptanmıştır. Etkileşimsel adalet kavramının, lider üye etkileşimi ve normatif bağlılık kavramları arasında aracı değişken etkisi yaptığı gözlenmiştir. Ancak normatif bağlılık lider üye etkileşimi ve işten ayrılma niyeti arasında aracı değişken etkisi yapmamaktadır. Bu çalışma, turizm endüstrisine lider üye etkileşimi konusunda katkıda bulunur. Aynı zamanda, turizmde yüksek olan personel devir hızına farklı bir pencereden bakmamızı sağlamıştır. Bu sonuçlar göstermektedir ki, işten ayrılma niyeti üzerinde kişilerin liderleriyle olan ilişkileri oldukça önemlidir. Turizm sektöründe personel devir hızının yüksek oluşu düzensiz çalışma saatlerine, düşük maaş oranlarına bağlanırken çalışanların liderleriyle olan ilişkileri ve bundan doğan adalet ve bağlılık algıları da unutulmamalıdır. The aim of the present study was to investigate leader member exchange (LMX) in tourism industry. This study investigates the relationship between quality of leader member exchange and intention to leave with the mediating effect of organizational commitment and investigates the relationship between quality of leader member exchange and organizational commitment with the mediating effect of interactional justice. Current study extends past research by examining the relationship between leader member exchange and intention to leave. The study included participants who are working for hotel industry. Quantitative (i.e., the surveys of leader member exchange, survey of commitment) methods were used to investigate the relationship between quality of leader member exchange and intention to leave. In the survey, leader member exchange scale, organizational commitment scale, interactional justice scale, intention to leave scale were presented to 108 (48 females, 56 male) employees from three different hotels in İstanbul (two five-star, and one four-star). To make mediation analyses, firstly, correlational analyses were performed among variables that are leader member exchange, interactional justice, organizational commitment, and intention to leave. The results demonstrated that leader member exchange is negatively correlated with intention to leave and positively correlated with normative commitment and interactional justice. Furthermore, normative commitment and intention to leave are negatively correlated while interactional justice and organizational commitment are positively correlated. Also, the study supported that there is a mediating effect of interactional justice on the relationship between leader member exchange and organizational commitment. However, there is no mediating effect of normative commitment on the relationship between leader member exchange and intention to leave. Lastly, this study contributes to leader member exchange literature in tourism industry. Also, it will create different point of view toward increasing turnover rate by presenting the relationship between leader member exchange and intention to leave in hospitality industry. 104

Bu çalışmada, duygusal zekanın çalışanlar ile ilişkisi konu edilmiştir. Türkiye'de bu konu ile alakalı bir çok çalışma olduğundan dolayı, sadece genel bir araştırma yapmak yerine, önceki araştırmaların sonucunu kıyaslamak ve ileride farklı araştırmalara yönelik fikir oluşturabilmek amacıyla meta-analiz çalışması yapılmıştır. Türkiye özelinde gerçekleştirilen bu meta-analiz çalışması için ULAKBIM ve Ulusal Tez Merkezinde bulunan duygusal zekanın çalışanlar ile ilişkisine dair tüm makalaler incelenmiştir. Türkiye'de yapılan araştırmalar içerisinde çoğunlukla duygusal zekanın iş tatmini üzerine etkisine dair çalışmalar olduğundan ve konunun evrensel öneminden dolayı bu çalışmada onun üzerinde durulmuştur. Meta analiz çalışması ile duygusal zekanın çalışanlar ile ilişkisine dair yapılan araştırmaların istatistiksel verileri karşılaştırılmıştır. Meta-analiz çalışmanın sonucunda duygusal zeka ile iş tatmini arasında ilişki bulunmuştur. Our research purpose was to systematize the existing literature on the relationship between emotional intelligence and employees. The present study carried out a meta analysis instead of a traditional literature review. This assured us to compare estimates from various studies standardized for the method applied, control variables used, or sample selected. We collect the relevant works, which were done in Turkey and published in ULAKBIM and National Thesis Center. Among all studies, which look at the relationship between emotional intelligence and employees, we focused on the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. Bu araştırma güçlendirici lider davranışının, çalışanın yapısal ve psikolojik güçlendirilmesi üzerindeki etkisini araştırmak üzere bir kamu bankası çalışanları örnekleminde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada bir taraftan güçlendiren lider davranışının (bağımsız değişkenin) psikolojik ve yapısal güçlendirme (bağımlı değişkenler) üzerinde etkisi incelenirken; diğer taraftan da psikolojik ve yapısal güçlendirme (bağımsız değişkenler) arasındaki ilişkiler araştırılmıştır. Araştırma verileri kolay ulaşılabilirlik yöntemi ile 251 çalışandan, kâğıt üzerinde doldurmuş oldukları -giriş kısmında demografik soruların yer aldığı- a) Güçlendirici Liderlik Davranışı Anketi, b) Çalışma Etkililiği Koşulları Anketi-II, c) Psikolojik Güçlendirme Anketleri ile toplanmıştır.Verilerin analizinde SPSS 20 paket programı kullanılmıştır. Anketlerin yapısal özelliklerini belirlemek üzere öncelikle açımlayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, güçlendiren lider kavramının cesaretlendirici (α= 66.36; iç tutarlılık=0.95) ve yetkilendirici lider faktörlerinden (α= 8.09; iç tutarlılık=0.93); Yapısal güçlendirme kavramının çalışanın bilgiye ulaşımı (α= 45.86; iç tutarlılık=0.87), çalışanı geliştirici kaynaklar ve destek faktörlerinden (α= 9.55; iç tutarlılık=0.85) ; Psikolojik güçlendirme kavramının ise; işin taşıdığı anlam (α= 44.00 ; iç tutarlılık=0.90) , çalışanın yetkinliklerine güveni (α=16.85; iç tutarlılık=0.82) ve çalışanın işinde sahip olduğu otonomi faktörlerinden oluştuğu (α= 12.74; iç tutarlılık=0.85) görülmüştür. Faktör analizi sonrasında oluşan model üzerinden korelasyon, t-test, anova, regresyon analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda güçlendirme boyutları arasında- güçlendiren lider, yapısal güçlendirme ve psikolojik güçlendirme- pozitif ve anlamlı bir ilişkinin var olduğu görülmüştür. Güçlendiren lider algısının yapısal güçlendirme ve psikolojik güçlendirme arasında kısmî aracı değişken etkisine sahip olduğu da görülmüştür. This research was conducted on a sample of public bank employees in order to examine the effect of empowering leader behaviours on the structural and psychological empowerment of the employees. In the study, on one hand the effect of empowering leader behaviours (independent variable) on the structural and psychological empowerment (dependent variables) is examined and on the other hand the relationship between psychological and structural empowerment (independent variables) is examined.The research data was collected by means of easy accessibility method through a) Empowering Leader Behaviours Questionnaire, b) Working Effectiveness Questionnaire-II, c) Psychological Empowerment Questionnaire– with demographic questions in the introduction part - filled on the paper by 251 employees.SPSS 20 package program was used for the analysis of data. Explanatory factor analysis was performed primarily to determine the structural characteristics of the questionnaires. As a result, it was observed that the empowering leader concept consists of encouraging (α = 66.36, internal consistency = 0.95) and empowering leader factors (α = 8.09, internal consistency = 0.93); the structural empowerment concept consists of employees' access to information (α = 45.86, internal consistency = 0.87), employee developing resources and support factors (α = 9.55, internal consistency = 0.85); the psychological empowerment concept consists of the meaning that the work has (α = 44.00, internal consistency = 0.90), confidence of the employee in his/her competencies (α = 16.85, internal consistency = 0.82) and autonomy that the employee has in the work (α = 12.74, internal consistency = 0.85).Correlation, t-test, ANOVA and regression analysis were performed over the questionnaire structures depicted from factor analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was found that there is a positive and significant relationship between the empowerment dimensions: empowering leader, structural empowerment and psychological empowerment. It was observed that the empowering leader perception has an effect of partial intermediary variable between structural empowerment and psychological empowerment. 97

Bu çalışmada günümüzde sıkça öne çıkan, popülerleşen ve kullanılan stratejik İnsan Kaynakları (IK) yönetimi ile ilgili argümanların, `insan odaklı` ve `sermaye olarak insan odaklı` perspektiflerin etkisinde nasıl kaldığı, bu etkinin günümüz akademi ve iş dünyasına nasıl yansıdığı ve Türkiye'deki İK profesyonelleri tarafından nasıl yorumlandığı, hayata geçerken İK fonksiyonlarının, pratiklerinin, yetkinliklerinin ve İK profesyonellerinin hizmet ettikleri organizasyonlardaki algılarına nasıl etki ettiği araştırılmıştır. Araştırmada kişisel deneyim ve tutumları ilk elden almak amacıyla nitel araştırma yöntemi tercih edilmiş, büyük çoğunluğu kıdemli İK profesyonellerinin oluşturduğu 20 kişiden oluşan örneklem ile birebir görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Bu görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler, tümevarıma dayalı nitel içerik analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre; İK profesyonelinin eğitim geçmişi, iş yaşamındaki deneyimleri, birlikte çalıştığı liderlerin özellikleri nasıl bir İK profesyoneli profili sergileyeceğini ve stratejik İK argümanlarını nasıl ele alacağını belirlemektedir. Aynı zamanda bu bireysel özelliklerin, İK profesyonelinin `insan` odaklı ya da `sermaye olarak insan` odaklı perspektiften bakışına etki ettiği ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bulunduğu kurumun kültür ve iklimi ile sosyokültürel-ekonomik nedenlerin de kolektif bir etkide bulunduğu gözlemlenmektedir. Tüm bu etkileşim, İK profesyonelinin stratejik İK argumanlarını edinmelerini, yorumlamalarını ve ortaya koydukları İK uygulamalarını etkilemekte, bunun sonucunda organizasyonlarda farklı İK yönetim yaklaşımları, uygulamaları ve farklı İK departmanı algıları oluşmaktadır. Söz konusu bu çalışma, `insan odaklı` ve `sermaye olarak insan odaklı` perspektiflerin Türkiye'deki İK alanına olan etkisinden edilen kapsamlı sonuçları ile stratejik İK yönetimi literatürüne katkıda bulunmuştur. This study determined `human focused` and `human capital` perspectives as a main conceptual framework, in doing so it was also investigated how these different perspectives are reflected on HR field of Turkey as a means of functions, practices, and competencies, and what the widespread belief of HR professionals on whether their primarily focus on human beings in organizations. To obtain personal experiences and attitudes from at first hand, in-depth interviews were done with 20 HR professionals with a great majority of senior ones in Turkey. To analyze qualititative data from interviews, an inductive qualitative content analysis tecnique was used. The findings indicate which perspective is outstanded by HR professionals is impressed by HR professionals' individual profile and individual drivers which are found out as educational background, past work experience, and the characteristics of influencers as well as collective perspective which includes the climate and culture of organizations HR professionals work for, and socio-cultural-economical reasons. Additionally, these differences influence on HR professionals' adoptation, interpretation, and implementation of strategic HRM, hence different HRM outputs and HR department perceptions appear in organizations. Thus, this study contributes to the SHRM literature by adding the human capital and human focused perspectives' impacts on organizations with the results of comprehensive and evolutionary overview of strategic HRM in Turkey. The Turkish government supports graduate students who want to have higher education overseas, with a scholarship based on Law number 1416. This scholarship currently called `Selecting and Appointing the Candidates to Send Abroad for Postgraduate Education` (YLSY) is now in operation to educate the next generation of academics from Turkey. In this study an investigation was conducted to explore the career decision making process of Turkish academic candidates for the YLSY scholarship. This study seeks to understand the YLSY candidates' early career decisions, its shift towards an academic career, and the awareness of candidates for possible ways to become an academic. The study also questioned the reasons scholars would revisit their decisions to analyse whether or not if to stay in this particular scholarship overtime. This study serves as an in-depth analysis of scholarship program, which is very much needed to understand the needs of the candidates for an academic career. Even if the research specifically focuses on YLSY, findings -on the decision making process for academic career especially with financial support from various institutions- are generalizable to alternative scholarship programs as well. An extensive literature review is presented to explain the national laws that are binding for academics and for the YLSY students in Turkey. The literature surrounding the decision making process is showing the availability of alternative theories. The educational decision making process and agentic and communal factors that affect these career decisions of future academics are also explained. In this study, interviews were conducted to gain an enhanced understanding of the current candidates' cognitions and emotions. Nine female and ten male participants were recruited using snowball and convenience sampling, primarily from Istanbul University. The participants answered seven demographic questions and 23 semi-structured interview questions in a classroom condition. The transcribed data were analysed using content analysis and the rational decision making steps were observed in the data. Five super-ordinate themes emerged from the data that explain the decision making as a process. The five themes are: early career decision and the reasons for decision shift, possibilities participants have for academic career, consideration of YLSY, the binding decision and evaluation of the final decision. The results implied a rational decision and careful consideration of both the agentic and the communal factors surrounding the decision. The five stage of the rational decision in this study is; firstly they made career identification and need analysis, than they considered the possibilities to pay for education, based on their evaluation which is also triggered by the agentic and communal reasons to participant in YLSY they finalized their decision to participate in YLSY. Of course making decision doesn't mean that this process is finished candidates revisit their decisions due to variety of factors like, role ambiguity and lack of support. The results of the current study were discussed under the light of the available literature. Bu bursun adı Yurt Dışına Lisansüstü Öğrenim Görmek Üzere Gönderilecek Adayları Seçme ve Yerleştirme (YLSY) olup ve güzümüzde geleceğin akademik personelini yetiştirmek için kullanılmaktadır. Bu araştırma YLSY bursuna katılan akademisyen adaylarının kariyerleri için karar verme süreçlerini incelemek için gerçekleştirilmiştir. YLSY adaylarının ilk kariyer kararları, bu kararın akademik kariyere dönüşümü ve adayların akademisyen olmayı mümkün kılan yollar hakkında bilgisi anlaşılmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu araştırma ayrıca akademisyen adaylarının kararlarını gözden geçirme ve bursta kalma fikirlerini değerlendirme nedenlerini de sorgulamıştır. Bu araştırma YLSY programının derinlemesine analizi olma işlevine de sahiptir. Bu sayede akademisyen adaylarının kariyer ihtiyaçları anlaşılabilecektir. Özel olarak YLSY programına odaklanma birlikte bu araştrmanın bulguları farklı finansal destekler alarak akademik kariyerini sürdürmeye çalışanların karar verme süreçlerini anlamak üzere genellenebilir. Tez kapsamında, öncelikle YLSY öğrencileri ve akademisyen adayları için bağlayıcı olan kanunlar kapsamlı bir şekilde sunuldu. Ayrıca karar verme süreçleri etrafında oluşturulan literatür ilgili teorilere değinilerek açıklandı. Yurtdışı eğitim kararı, kişisel ve toplumsal faktörler gibi geleceğin akademisyenlerinin kariyer kararının üzerinde etkisi bulunan faktörler de incelemeye eklendi. Bu çalışmada katılımcıların duygularını ve düşünce süreçlerini derinlemesine anlayabilmek için araştırma yöntemi olarak yüz yüze ve birebir mülakat tekniği kullanıldı. Dokuz kadın ve on erkek katılımcı kartopu yöntemi ve kolay erişimli örnekleme yöntemleri kullanılarak büyük çoğunluğu İstanbul Üniversitesi'nden seçildi. Katılımcılar yedi demografik ve yirmi üç yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat sorusuna araştırma için rezerve edilen sınıf ortamında cevap verdi. Deşifre edilen veri tümdengelimsel içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak incelendi ve rasyonel karar verme adımları veri içerisinde tanımlandı. Beş ana tema veri içerisinde belirlendi ve karar verme mekanizması adımlarına göre sınıflandırıldı. Bu beş ana tema; ilk kariyer kararı ve değişiminin nedenleri, akademik kariyer için katılımcıların olanakları, YLSY'nin değerlendirilmesi, bağlayıcı karar ve son olarak da kararın tekrar gözden geçirilmesini açıklamıştır. Araştırmanın sonucu katılımcıların kararlarını kişisel ve toplumsal açılardan değerlendirerek dikkatle karar verdiklerini belirtmektedir. Özetle bu araştırma, akademisyen adaylarının yollarının başında etkilendikleri kişisel ve toplumsal faktörleri inceleyerek kariyer kararı verme literatürüne katkıda bulunmuştur. Bulgular mevcut literatürü ışığında tartışılmaktadır. 112
