This study examines the impact of child sexual molestation on men assaulted as children by Catholic clergy. In-depth interviews were used to conduct a qualitative analysis of how clergy-perpetrated childhood sexual abuse affected the adult psychological and/or psychosocial functioning of nine men. Subjects were selected in coordination with a nationally recognized advocacy group established for victims of clergy abuse, The Survivor Network of those Abused by Priests. The study found that the sexual abuse acted as a developmental insult and resulted in systemic influences throughout the victims' lives. The article concludes with considerations for treatment.

The relationship between expected grades and student evaluations of teaching (SET) has been controversial. The authors take another look at the controversy by employing class-specific observations and controlling for time-invariant instructor and course differences with a fixed-effects model. The authors' empirical results indicate that if an instructor of a particular course has some classes in which students expect higher grades, a more favorable average SET is obtained in these classes. Moreover, they find that it is the gap between expected grade and cumulative grade point average of incoming students that is the relevant explanatory variable, not expected grade as employed in the previous literature.

Despite the emergence of a literature on sexual assault over the past few decades, adult male victims have traditionally been excluded. Argues that higher education administrators, alerted to the existence of these sexual crimes, are in a unique position to assist potential and actual victims through educational and therapeutic interventions. Males are more at risk of sexual assault and consequent psychological problems than is generally believed. The existing knowledge base is reviewed and discussed. Although few services exist for this population, awareness on the part of school counselors and personnel can provide opportunities for survivors to process these experiences. (EMK)

Many per-unit curbside recycling and garbage collection pricing systems were implemented in the 1990s. A detailed data set is used to estimate the effect of an increase in the per-unit price change for a long-running pricing system across time in one city. A fixed-effects regression controls for collection district and explanatory variables including weather, time, and employment changes. The elasticity estimate is within the range of previous work but with a higher cross-price elasticity to recycling. There is much interest in how the increase in high valued added manufacturing in emerging economies is affecting established manufacturers in high income economies. One area of analysis is industry innovation. We analyze how innovation in the automobile industry has been impacted by competition in a North-South setting. North-South innovation models indicate that greater production by the South will encourage North companies to engage in more innovation to stay ahead of the new competition. In contrast, our analysis suggests that greater competition from auto manufacturers in the South results in less innovative output by manufacturers in the North. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although the implementation of parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was delayed until 2015, many firms had already made changes to their health insurance plans and their business practices. This article reports results from a survey administered to western Michigan firms in October 2013 requesting information on any changes they made in response to ACA. The authors found that although 89% of employers planned to offer health insurance in 2014, that number dropped to 66% in 2015. The main ways organizations were controlling health costs were by changing prescription coverage, passing on the costs to employees through higher copays and premiums and offering more high-deductible health plans with health savings accounts. Employers also were altering business practices by decreasing future hiring and decreasing the hours of part-time workers.
