This study examined the collaborative practices between teachers and speech and language therapists (SLTs) within an inclusive setting, interviewing 17 professionals' couples. Three distinct phases of collaboration were identified: planning (e.g. reviewing student performance), co-teaching in the classroom, and evaluation (reflecting upon joint activities). Conditions fostering collaboration were categorized into individual (interpersonal relationships), school-based (directive management) and policy (current regulations) dimensions. Findings suggest that the extent of collaboration varies and is influenced by interconnected conditions. This research enriches the literature by offering a classification of collaborative work between teachers and SLTs and underscores the conditions impacting it, and is invaluable for stakeholders aiming to advance inclusive educational settings.

Cytoplasmic divisions are thought to rely on nuclear divisions and mitotic signals. We demonstrate in Drosophila embryos that cytoplasm can divide repeatedly without nuclei and mitotic CDK/cyclin complexes. Cdk1 normally slows an otherwise faster cytoplasmic division cycle, coupling it with nuclear divisions, and when uncoupled, cytoplasm starts dividing before mitosis. In developing embryos where CDK/cyclin activity can license mitotic microtubule (MT) organizers like the spindle, cytoplasmic divisions can occur without the centrosome, a principal organizer of interphase MTs. However, centrosomes become essential in the absence of CDK/cyclin activity, implying that the cytoplasm can employ either the centrosome-based interphase or CDK/cyclin-dependent mitotic MTs to facilitate its divisions. Finally, we present evidence that autonomous cytoplasmic divisions occur during unperturbed fly embryogenesis and that they may help extrude mitotically stalled nuclei during blastoderm formation. We postulate that cytoplasmic divisions occur in cycles governed by a yet-to-be-uncovered clock mechanism autonomous from CDK/cyclin complexes.

RATIONALE: Modafinil has been proposed as a potentially effective clinical treatment for neuropsychiatric disorders characterized by cognitive control deficits. However, the precise effects of modafinil, particularly on brain network functions, are not completely understood. OBJECTIVES: To address this gap, we examined the effects of modafinil on resting-state brain activity in 30 healthy adults using microstate analysis. Electroencephalographic (EEG) microstates are discrete voltage topographies generated from resting-state network activity. METHODS: Using a placebo-controlled, within-subjects design, we examined changes to microstate parameters following placebo (0 mg), low (100 mg), and high (200 mg) modafinil doses. We also examined the functional significance of these microstates via associations between microstate parameters and event-related potential indexes of conflict monitoring and automatic error processing (N2 and error-related negativity) and behavioral responses (accuracy and RT) from a subsequent flanker interference task. RESULTS: Five microstates emerged following each treatment condition, including four canonical microstates (A-D). Modafinil increased microstate C proportion and occurrence regardless of dose, relative to placebo. Modafinil also decreased microstate A proportion and microstate B proportion and occurrence relative to placebo. These modafinil-related changes in microstate parameters were not associated with similar changes in flanker ERPs or behavior. Finally, modafinil made transitions between microstates A and B less likely and transitions from A and B to C more likely. CONCLUSIONS: Previous fMRI work has correlated microstates A and B with auditory and visual networks and microstate C with a salience network. Thus, our results suggest modafinil may deactivate large-scale sensory networks in favor of a higher order functional network during resting-state in healthy adults.

Progress towards understanding neural mechanisms in humans relevant to psychiatric conditions has been hindered by a lack of translationally-relevant cognitive tasks for laboratory animals. Accordingly, there is a critical need to develop parallel neurophysiological assessments of domains of cognition, such as cognitive control, in humans and laboratory animals. To address this, we developed a touchscreen-based cognitive (Eriksen Flanker) task in rats and used its key characteristics to construct a novel human version, with similar testing parameters and endpoints across species. We obtained continuous electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings, including local field potentials in rats, and compared electrophysiological signatures locked to stimulus onset and responses across species. We also assessed whether behavioral or physiological task effects were modulated by modafinil, which enhances aspects of cognitive function in humans. In both species, the task elicited expected flanker interference effects (reduced accuracy) during high-conflict trials. Across homologous neuroanatomical loci, stimulus-locked increases in theta power during high-conflict trials as well as error-related negative potentials were observed. These endpoints were not affected by modafinil in either species. Despite some species-specific patterns, our findings demonstrate the feasibility of a rat Flanker task as well as cross-species behavioral and neurophysiological similarities, which may enable novel insights into the neural correlates of healthy and aberrant behavior and provide mechanistic insights relevant to treatment.

How do cells perceive time? Do cells use temporal information to regulate the production/degradation of their enzymes, membranes, and organelles? Does controlling biological time influence cytoskeletal organization and cellular architecture in ways that confer evolutionary and physiological advantages? Potential answers to these fundamental questions of cell biology have historically revolved around the discussion of 'master' temporal programs, such as the principal cyclin-dependent kinase/cyclin cell division oscillator and the circadian clock. In this review, we provide an overview of the recent evidence supporting an emerging concept of 'autonomous clocks,' which under normal conditions can be entrained by the cell cycle and/or the circadian clock to run at their pace, but can also run independently to serve their functions if/when these major temporal programs are halted/abrupted. We begin the discussion by introducing recent developments in the study of such clocks and their roles at different scales and complexities. We then use current advances to elucidate the logic and molecular architecture of temporal networks that comprise autonomous clocks, providing important clues as to how these clocks may have evolved to run independently and, sometimes at the cost of redundancy, have strongly coupled to run under the full command of the cell cycle and/or the circadian clock. Next, we review a list of important recent findings that have shed new light onto potential hallmarks of autonomous clocks, suggestive of prospective theoretical and experimental approaches to further accelerate their discovery. Finally, we discuss their roles in health and disease, as well as possible therapeutic opportunities that targeting the autonomous clocks may offer.

Research Findings: Two hundred and sixty-seven Chilean children from grades 1-3, their fathers and their mothers completed measures of implicit and explicit math-related beliefs (math-gender stereotypes, math self-concepts) and feelings (math anxiety), as well as tests of mathematical achievement. Children, fathers, and mothers exhibited stereotypes that link math with males. More specifically, mothers identified more with language than with math, while fathers and children identified more with math than with language. Path analyses models revealed that children's explicit math self-concepts significantly predicted their actual math achievement. Children's explicit self-concept was, in turn, explained marginally by the mathematical anxiety of their mothers. Practice or Policy: These results contribute to our understanding of the relation between parental and children's beliefs and children's math achievement during early elementary school years. In countries such as Chile, with a significant gender gap in math achievement, these findings may highlight relevant aspects to consider when designing interventions aimed at educational equity and providing equal mathematical learning opportunities to boys and girls.

We hypothesized that outcomes after 2 staged, contralateral single lung transplantation procedures (SSLTs) may be equivalent to those of double lung transplantation (DLT) by capitalizing on the known long-term survival advantages of DLT. Using the United Network for Organ Sharing data set (1987-2018), the largest national data set available, the outcomes of 278 SSLTs were retrospectively analyzed and compared with the outcomes of 21,121 standard DLTs. During SSLT, the median interval between the 2 transplants was 960 days, and the indication for the second transplant was most often chronic lung allograft dysfunction (n = 148; 53.2%) or the same disease that necessitated the first transplant (n = 81; 29.1%). The patients who underwent SSLT were significantly older and had a higher baseline creatinine level than the patients who underwent DLT. Most posttransplantation short-term outcomes were equivalent between the second stage of SSLT and DLT, but renal insufficiency requiring hemodialysis was notably higher after SSLT. There were no differences in long-term survival. In multivariate analysis, baseline creatinine, O 2 support at rest, ventilator support at the time of the second transplantation, and posttransplantation renal insufficiency requiring dialysis were independent predictors of 1-year mortality after SSLT. Over a study period of 30 years, long-term survival after SSLT was comparable with survival after DLT. With further analysis of individual risk profiles, including the contributions of preoperative renal function and functional status, SSLT can be a valuable option for patients who would have undergone single lung transplantation to reap the long-term benefits of a second transplant. • The CTAI is presented as the first instrument to assess complex thinking cognitive abilities. • The evaluation of the CTAI by an expert panel showed excellent content validity. • The reliability indices of the instrument were adequate. • The goodness-of-fit indexes of the confirmatory factor analysis allow confirming the proposed conceptual model and the construct validity of the instrument. • Statistical hypothesis tests confirm the validity and reliability of the CTAI. This study proposes the development of an instrument to measure complex thinking skills, which was applied to 256 university students to assess its psychometric properties and determine its validity on content, criterion, construct, and reliability. In this process, the instrument was submitted to the evaluation of a panel of experts, the conceptual model was verified through confirmatory factor analysis, and the criterion validity (convergent validity and discriminant validity) was determined in relation to other instruments. Finally, it is concluded that the results of the instrument validation process showed satisfactory statistical validity values. This allows establishing that the complex thinking assessment instrument (CTAI) is a psychometrically valid and reliable instrument to measure their cognitive abilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
