The combination of accelerated urbanization and tourism-related activities, along with frequent coastal flooding, has generated pressure on the coastline of the Republic of Croatia (RH). In this paper, an integrated coastal vulnerability model (ICVI) for coastal flooding was developed. The ICVI was generated using a GIS multicriteria approach and derived from two sub-indices: the physical vulnerability index (CVIN) and the socio-economic vulnerability index (CVIS). In total, 30 criteria were used in the derivation of the ICVI, with twelve contributing to CVIS and eighteen to CVIN. The ICVI model is represented as a line divided into smaller segments, each segment indicating ICVI vulnerability levels ranging from 1 (very low) to 5 (very high). The accuracy of CVIN was evaluated using 159 geocoded coastal flood locations obtained from various websites and the official register of Hrvatske Vode flood events from 2008 to 2023. More than 80% of geocoded flood locations are situated in areas with very high (5) or high (4) CVIN. Furthermore, out of 32 settlements with officially registered flood events, 90.6% of them are located in areas with very high or high ICVI. Since all data used in the ICVI derivation were acquired from open-source databases and a user-friendly GIS-MCDA toolbox was utilized, this paper presents a cost-effective approach to modeling integrated coastal vulnerability. This model can guide decision-makers and provide them with new insights for implementing an effective integrated coastal zone management strategy.

Soil erosion has been identified as a major threat to existing soil deposits, which negatively affects ecosystem sustainability, agricultural production and clean water supply. This study covered the eastern part of Kaštela Bay with the aim of developing a model of susceptibility to soil erosion by applying the GIS-based multicriteria analysis, based on nine determinant criteria categorized by the Jenks method in five classes. The largest representation of soil erosion susceptibility was detected on the slopes of the Kozjak and Mosor massifs. According to the calculated weighting coefficients using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), the slope was the most impactful criterion with 29.9 % importance. It was followed by hydrological criteria of topographic wetness index, standardized precipitation index and LS-factor, with 13.1 % importance each. After the development of the model, zones of very high and high susceptibility to soil erosion were delineated, with a combined coverage of 33.34 % of the study area. These areas were identified as a potential threat from the future occurrence of negative effects of soil erosion, which should be addressed in the future by land policy managers and government managers.

Changes in the land use/land cover (LU/LC) model caused by different anthropogenic and natural factors are an important object of numerous scientific research. In this paper, an analysis of the spatio-temporal changes (LUCCs) for the area of Significant landscape (SL) of the „Baraćeve špilje“ in the period from 1960 to 2021 was performed. Using aerial photographs and a hybrid classification method, LU/LC models and spatio-temporal changes (STCs) analysis were performed. The research showed that the abandonment of agriculture and the slow disappearance of anthropogenic influence led to the disappearance of low vegetation in the form of lawns, meadows and pastures, while the bushy vegetation and forest gradually prevailed. Finally, in accordance with the degree of protection of the studied area guidelines for stopping negative trends in LU/LC changes were considered.

Glutamate is the most important excitatory neurotransmitter, which is relevant for the study of several diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Alzheimer. It is the form L-glutamic acid (Glu) takes at physiologically relevant pHs. The surface-enhanced Raman spectra of Glu obtained at pH values ranging from 3.3 to 12 are collected in the presence of silver and gold colloids and on solid substrates. The observed bands are compared with the positions of calculated normal modes for free neutral glutamic acid, glutamic acid monohydrate, glutamic acid bound to gold and silver atoms, and sodium glutamate. Although gold atoms prefer to bind to the NH2 group as compared to carbonyl groups, silver atoms prefer binding to hydroxyl groups more than binding to the amino group. SERS spectra of glutamic acid solutions with a pH value of 12, in which both carboxylic groups are deprotonated, indicate a complexation of the glutamic acid dianion with the sodium cation, which was introduced into the solution to adjust the pH value. Further research towards an optimal substrate is needed.

Marine litter is a growing threat to the marine environment. Mapping of marine litter is becoming increasingly important to detect its potential hotspots and prevent their spread. In this paper, the applicability of the multibeam echo sounder (MBES) WASSP S3 and remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) Chasing M2 was tested in the detection and mapping of marine litter on the seafloor within the wider area of the St. Ante Channel (Šibenik, Croatia). Also, the precision assessment of WASSP S3 was tested at different cruising speeds. Results have shown that Chasing M2 can be used effectively for the initial detection of marine debris in shallow waters. However, if the underwater navigation and positioning system and auxiliary measurement scales are not used, the ROV has limited capabilities in deriving morphometric parameters of marine litter on the seafloor. This was determined by comparing the 3D model of a tire which was derived using video photogrammetry captured with ROV and the 3D model of a tire which was produced using a hand-held 3D scanner. Furthermore, the results have shown the WASSP S3 is not suitable for identifying marine litter smaller than 1 m at depths up to 10 m. The MBES WASSP S3 can detect marine litter that has a minimum area of 100 * 100 cm and a height of around 40 cm at depths up to 10 m. The results pointed to the need for caution when choosing an adequate sensor to detect and map marine litter on the seafloor. This paper demonstrates the possibilities of GIS implementation in the preventive phase of firefighting activities for the Šibenik-Knin County. Multicriteria GIS analysis (GISMCDA) was applied in derivation of the wildfire risk ignition index. Four groups of criteria were used: vegetation, geomorphometry, anthropogenic impact, and climate elements. Wildfire risk ignition models were derived based on the decision-maker method through (1) the experience of the local fire commander and (2) following the examples of good practice. Furthermore, the coverage and the passability of the National park (NP) Krka roads were analyzed in relation to the standard intervention time from the competent fire brigades. The nearest fire brigades and the fastest routes to the most endangered zones within the NP Krka have been derived. The results indicate that the area of Šibenik-Knin County belongs to the moderate/moderately high risk of fire ignition and that the coverage of the NP Krka roads within the standard intervention time is not satisfactory.

Full and partial restorations in dentistry must replicate the characteristics of the patient’s natural teeth. Materials must have good mechanical properties and be non-toxic and biocompatible. Microbes, which can form biofilms, are constantly in contact with restorations. In this study, we investigate how well Candida albicans adheres to a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin base with gold (Au) nanoparticles. We synthesized Au nanoparticles and characterized them. The average size of Au nanoparticles embedded in PMMA was 11 nm. The color difference ΔE between PMMA and PMMA/Au composites was 2.7 and was still esthetically acceptable to patients. PMMA/Au surfaces are smoother and more hydrophilic than pure PMMA surfaces, and the isoelectric point of both types of surfaces was 4.3. Above the isoelectric point, PMMA/Au surfaces are more negatively charged than PMMA surfaces. The added Au nanoparticles decreased the tensile strength, while the hardness did not change significantly. Adhesion measurements showed that PMMA surfaces modified with Au nanoparticles reduced the extent of microbial adhesion of Candida albicans.

This study aimed to implement a microencapsulated form of selected autochthonous lactic-acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from the cheese-production chain and natural rennet obtained from suckling lambs in the traditional production of hard sheep cheese, “Paški sir”, from the island of Pag, Croatia. Two different formulations of microparticles were prepared: (i) microparticles containing the strain of both Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lactococcus lactis (S2) and (ii) microparticles containing both strains and natural rennet (S3). These formulations were used in the production of Paški sir cheese simultaneously with standard production using non-encapsulated commercial starter cultures and commercial rennet (S1). The number of Lc. lactis isolates decreased at day 30 and were not isolated during the remaining ripening process, whereas the number of L. plantarum remained stable throughout the ripening process. The level of LAB and the release of the rennet from microsphere formulations at the end allowed for the production of cheese with the same characteristics as the commercial product, indicating no negative interactions of natural rennet, bacterial culture, and chemical components of microparticles. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a microencapsulated L. plantarum (isolated from the abomasum of lambs) coupled with natural lamb’s rennet used in the production of hard sheep cheese. This pilot study showed the great potential for maintaining authenticity in cheese production by combining traditional and sustainable innovative technologies.

At the moment, there is no real picture of the state of geodetic proffesion in Sarajevo Canton. To be precise, there are no official data, for the Sarajevo Canton area, about the number and structure of geodetic experts and their activities in the proffesion, nor on the number and type of surveying equipment and software used, both in private and public sector. This paper deals with the collection and analysis of data on the number and structure of geodetic experts, as well as on data on the surveying instruments equipment and service systems of public sector u Sarajevo Canton. This paper should give a real picture of the state of surveying proffesion, and a good basis for decisions making and rehabilitation plans of the state of geodetic profession in the Sarajevo Canton.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, have been routinely used in cosmetic and sunscreen applications, due to their ability to absorb in the UV spectrum. Nevertheless, one of the main disadvantages has been the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), especially the hydroxyl radical, upon photoexcitation of titania. In this work, we investigate TiO2 nanoparticles doped with 0.6–0.7% manganese (Mn), based in the more stable rutile polymorph of titania. In particular, while the anatase crystal form has the ability to destroy almost any organic matter under UV illumination, rutile is less photoreactive, and with Mn doping its photoactivity is reduced further. In particular, we study its optical, structural and semiconducting properties via the Seebeck effect and show that the material displays p-type characteristics. This is very significant because it shifts the energy levels with respect to formation of hydroxyl free radicals. This ensures that for Mn doped p-type titania it is not energetically possible for the hole created in the valence band by photoexcitation to create an OH. free radical and this may explain its low photoreactivity. It also means that this material can act as a very effective scavenger for hydroxyl free radicals.

This study presents a micro-scale approach for the cropland suitability assessment of permanent crops based on a low-cost unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a commercially available RGB sensor. The study area was divided into two subsets, with subsets A and B containing tangerine plantations planted during years 2000 and 2008, respectively. The fieldwork was performed on 27 September 2021 by using a Mavic 2 Pro UAV equipped with a commercial RGB sensor. The cropland suitability was performed in a two-step classification process, utilizing: (1) supervised classification with machine learning algorithms for creating a vegetation mask; and (2) unsupervised classification for the suitability assessment according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) land suitability standard. The overall accuracy and kappa coefficients were used for the accuracy assessment. The most accurate combination of the input data and parameters was the classification using ANN with all nine input rasters, managing to utilize complimentary information regarding the study area spectral and topographic properties. The resulting suitability levels indicated positive suitability in both study subsets, with 63.1% suitable area in subset A and 59.0% in subset B. Despite that, the efficiency of agricultural production can be improved by managing crop and soil properties in the currently non-suitable class (N1), providing recommendations for farmers for further agronomic inspection. Alongside low-cost UAV, the open-source GIS software and globally accepted FAO standard are expected to further improve the availability of its application for permanent crop plantation management.

In recent decades, precision agriculture and geospatial technologies have made it possible to ensure sustainability in an olive-growing sector. The main goal of this study is the extraction of olive tree canopies by comparing two approaches, the first of which is related to geographic object-based analysis (GEOBIA), while the second one is based on the use of vegetation indices (VIs). The research area is a micro-location within the Lun olives garden, on the island of Pag. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a multispectral (MS) sensor was used for generating a very high-resolution (VHR) UAVMS model, while another mission was performed to create a VHR digital orthophoto (DOP). When implementing the GEOBIA approach in the extraction of the olive canopy, user-defined parameters and classification algorithms support vector machine (SVM), maximum likelihood classifier (MLC), and random trees classifier (RTC) were evaluated. The RTC algorithm achieved the highest overall accuracy (OA) of 0.7565 and kappa coefficient (KC) of 0.4615. The second approach included five different VIs models (NDVI, NDRE, GNDVI, MCARI2, and RDVI2) which are optimized using the proposed VITO (VI Threshold Optimizer) tool. The NDRE index model was selected as the most accurate one, according to the ROC accuracy measure with a result of 0.888 for the area under curve (AUC).

The geographic information system (GIS) is, at the global level, recognized as one of the best ICTs for implementation in the subject of geography. The application of GIS in the Republic of Croatia (RH) lags behind developed countries. The main objective of this research was to examine the attitudes of secondary school students and geography teachers regarding the introduction of GIS in the educational system process. In the period from 3 October 2021 to 27 January 2022, a survey questionnaire was conducted in 30 secondary schools in the RH on a sample of 611 students and 96 teachers. The results have showed that both teachers and students have a positive attitude toward the introduction of GIS for the purpose of teaching geography. More than 80% of teachers believe that GIS is not sufficiently represented in the high school and geography curricula which is recognized as one of the most important factors which limit GIS implementation. A majority (77%) of teachers are not using GIS on any teaching level, which is not surprising since both surveyed teachers and students have poor knowledge of GIS, although teachers rated their knowledge a little higher. Teachers perceive students’ interest in GIS exactly as students express it; predominantly indifferent. The most important factors limiting the implementation of GIS are recognized as: a lack of necessary GIS software and licenses; not knowing how to use GIS; and an insufficient number of teaching units dedicated to GIS in the geography curricula. An equal percentage of both teachers and students believe that there are prerequisites for GIS implementation in their schools. One of the basic prerequisites for GIS implementation is that education authorities need to “see” GIS as an important part of geography and include it more in school curricula. In almost all countries where GIS has been implemented in schools, difficulties in its implementation have been documented.

The development of geospatial technologies (GST) has accelerated the process of 3D documentation and facilitated the promotion of cultural heritage. In this paper 3D documentation and promotion of Fortica fortress (Pag island, Republic of Croatia) has been made. The methods of close-range photogrammetry (CRP), 3D print and modern visualisation technique (virtual reality) were used. Data was collected using UAV Phantom 4 Pro, DSLR Nikon D5300 and GNSS RTK Stonex X10. High-resolution 3D models of Fortica were generated using Agisoft Metashape 1.5.1. The dense cloud of the Fortica with 33 million points was generated. Digital surface model (DSM) with spatial resolution of 1.3 cm and digital orthophoto with spatial resolution of 0.6 cm, were created from dense point cloud. The total RMSE of control points was 4,04 cm in the reference coordinate system and 0.24 pixels in the imaging coordinate system. 3D model of the Fortica fortress was used to create virtual walks, while Prusa i3 mk3 physical model of the Fortica fortress was created with the 3D printer. Virtual walk was displayed in the Samsung GearVR model. The proposed methodological framework provides cultural heritage experts with an easy and cost-effective way of generating relatively accurate 3D models and applying these models to various promotional and educational purposes.

Terrestrial LiDAR scanning (TLS) has in preceding years emerged as one of the most accurate and reliable geospatial methods for the creation of very-high resolution (VHR) models over gullies and other complex geomorphic features. Rough terrain morphology and rapid erosion induced spatio-temporal changes (STCs) can lead to significant challenges in multi-temporal field TLS surveys. In this study, we present a newly developed systematic framework for the optimization of multi-temporal terrestrial LiDAR surveys through the implementation of thorough systematic pre-survey planning and field preparation phases. The developed systematic framework is aimed at increase of accuracy and repeatability of multi-temporal TLS surveys, where optimal TLS positions are determined based on visibility analysis. The whole process of selection of optimal TLS positions was automated with the developed TLS positioning tool (TPT), which allows the user to adjust the parameters of visibility analysis to local terrain characteristics and the specifications of available terrestrial laser scanners. Application and validation of the developed framework were carried out over the gully Santiš (1226.97 m2), located at Pag Island (Croatia). Eight optimal TLS positions were determined by the TPT tool, from which planned coverage included almost 97% of the whole gully area and 99.10% of complex gully headcut morphology. In order to validate the performance of the applied framework, multi-temporal TLS surveys were carried out over the gully Santiš in December 2019 and 2020 using the Faro Focus M70 TLS. Field multi-temporal TLS surveys have confirmed the accuracy and reliability of the developed systematic framework, where very-high coverage (>95%) was achieved. Shadowing effects within the complex overhangs in the gully headcut and deeply incised sub-channels were successfully minimalized, thus allowing accurate detection and quantification of erosion induced STCs. Detection of intensive erosion induced STCs within the observed one-year period was carried out for the chosen part of the gully headcut. Most of the detected STCs were related to the mass collapse and gradual uphill retreat of the headcut, where in total 2.42 m2 of soil has been eroded. The developed optimization framework has significantly facilitated the implementation of multi-temporal TLS surveys, raising both their accuracy and repeatability. Therefore, it has great potential for further application over gullies and other complex geomorphic features where accurate multi-temporal TLS surveys are required for monitoring and detection of different STCs.

Developed GIS automated multicriteria analysis (GAMA) method presented in this article allows automation and simplification of multicriteria GIS decision analysis (GIS-MCDA) susceptibility modelling. Traditional GIS-MCDA susceptibility modelling still represents time and labor demanding process, whose success is highly influenced by the user's experience and knowledge. In order to make overall GIS-MCDA susceptibility modelling process more straightforward and practical, GAMA method is designed as easy to use three step process, which allows automation of following GIS-MCDA steps: (1) standardization of criteria, (2) criteria grouping and weight assignment and (3) susceptibility model aggregation. GAMA method is developed within ArcGIS 10.4 ModelBuilder application, as a toolset that can be easily shared and incorporated within default ESRI’s ArcGIS toolbox. GAMA was successfully applied for gully erosion susceptibility modelling on example of Pag island, Croatia, whose results are published in separate article. Since GAMA method is applicable to various GIS-MCDA susceptibility modelling purposes we are encouraging its future use and therefore open-source GAMA method toolset can be acquired for research purposes (htps://gal.unizd.hr). • GAMA method simplifies overall GIS-MCDA susceptibility modelling process. • GAMA allows automated standardization, grouping, weight coefficient assignment and aggregation of GIS-MCDA’s criteria. • GAMA method has broad application in various different GIS-MCDA susceptibility modelling purposes. The karst landscapes of the Mediterranean are regarded as some of the most vulnerable, fragile, and complex systems in the world. They hold a particularly interesting group of small islands with a distinctive, recognizable landscape. The Republic of Croatia (HR), which has one of the most indented coasts in the world, is particularly known for them. In this paper, we analyzed the spatio-temporal changes (STCs) in the landscape of Ošljak Island, the smallest inhabited island in HR. Landuse/landcover change (LUCC) analysis has been conducted from 1944 to 2021. The methodology included the acquisition of multi-temporal data, data harmonization, production of landuse/landcover (LU/LC) maps, selection of optimal environmental indicators (EIs), and simulation modeling. In total, eleven comparable LU/LC models have been produced, with moderate accuracy. STCs have been quantified using the nine EIs. The dominant processes that influenced the changes in the Ošljak landscape have been identified. The results have shown that, in recent decades, Ošljak has undergone a landscape transformation which was manifested through (a) pronounced expansion of Aleppo pine; (b) deagrarianization, which led to secondary succession; and (c) urban sprawl, which led to the transformation of the functional landscape. The most significant of the detected changes is the afforestation of the Aleppo pine. Namely, in a 77-year span, the Aleppo pine has expanded intensively to an area of 11.736 ha, created a simulation model for 2025, and pointed to the possibility of the continued expansion of Aleppo pine. Specific guidelines for the management of this new transformed landscape have been proposed. This research provides a user-friendly methodological framework that can efficiently monitor LUCCs of a smaller area in the case when geospatial data are scarce and satellite imagery of coarser resolution cannot be used. Moreover, it gives an insight into the availability and quality of multi-temporal data for the HR.

Pixel-based (PB) and geographic-object-based (GEOBIA) classification approaches allow the extraction of different objects from multispectral images (MS). The primary goal of this research was the analysis of UAV imagery applicability and accuracy assessment of MLC and SVM classification algorithms within PB and GEOBIA classification approaches. The secondary goal was to use different accuracy assessment metrics to determine which of the two tested classification algorithms (SVM and MLC) most reliably distinguishes olive tree crowns and which approach is more accurate (PB or GEOBIA). The third goal was to add false polygon samples for Correctness (COR), Completeness (COM) and Overall Quality (OQ) metrics and use them to calculate the Total Accuracy (TA). The methodology can be divided into six steps, from data acquisition to selection of the best classification algorithm after accuracy assessment. High-quality DOP (digital orthophoto) and UAVMS were generated. A new accuracy metric, called Total Accuracy (TA), combined both false and true positive polygon samples, thus providing a more comprehensive insight into the assessed classification accuracy. The SVM (GEOBIA) was the most reliable classification algorithm for extracting olive tree crowns from UAVMS imagery. The assessment carried out indicated that application of GEOBIA-SVM achieved a TACOR of 0.527, TACOM of 0.811, TAOQ of 0.745, Overall Accuracy (OA) of 0.926 or 0.980 and Area Under Curve (AUC) value of 0.904 or 0.929. The calculated accuracy metrics confirmed that the GEOBIA approach (SVM and MLC) achieved more accurate olive tree crown extraction than the PB approach (SVM and MLC) if applied to classifying VHR UAVMS imagery. The SVM classification algorithm extracted olive tree crowns more accurately than MLC in both approaches. However, the accuracy assessment has proven that PB classification algorithms can also achieve satisfactory accuracy.

Multibeam echosounders (MBES) have become a valuable tool for underwater floor mapping. However, MBES data are often loaded with different measurement errors. This study presents a new user-friendly and methodological semi-automatic approach of point cloud post-processing error removal. The St. Anthony Channel (Croatia) was selected as the research area because it is regarded as one of the most demanding sea or river passages in the world and it is protected as a significant landscape by the Šibenik-Knin County. The two main objectives of this study, conducted within the Interreg Italy–Croatia PEPSEA project, were to: (a) propose a methodological framework that would enable the easier and user-friendly identification and removal of the errors in MBES data; (b) create a high-resolution integral model (MBES and UAV data) of the St. Anthony Channel for maritime safety and tourism promotion purposes. A hydrographic survey of the channel was carried out using WASSP S3 MBES while UAV photogrammetry was performed using Matrice 210 RTK V2. The proposed semi-automatic post-processing of the MBES acquired point cloud was completed in the Open Source CloudCompare software following five steps in which various point filtering methods were used. The reduction percentage in points after the denoising process was 14.11%. Our results provided: (a) a new user-friendly methodological framework for MBES point filtering; (b) a detailed bathymetric map of the St. Anthony Channel with a spatial resolution of 50 cm; and (c) the first integral (MBES and UAV) high-resolution model of the St. Anthony Channel. The generated models can primarily be used for maritime safety and tourism promotion purposes. In future research, ground-truthing methods (e.g., ROVs) will be used to validate the generated models.

The dispersion of platinum (Pt) on metal oxide supports is important for catalytic and gas sensing applications. In this work, we used mechanochemical dispersion and compatible Fe(II) acetate, Sn(II) acetate and Pt(II) acetylacetonate powders to better disperse Pt in Fe2O3 and SnO2. The dispersion of platinum in SnO2 is significantly different from the dispersion of Pt over Fe2O3. Electron microscopy has shown that the elements Sn, O and Pt are homogeneously dispersed in α-SnO2 (cassiterite), indicating the formation of a (Pt,Sn)O2 solid solution. In contrast, platinum is dispersed in α-Fe2O3 (hematite) mainly in the form of isolated Pt nanoparticles despite the oxidative conditions during annealing. The size of the dispersed Pt nanoparticles over α-Fe2O3 can be controlled by changing the experimental conditions and is set to 2.2, 1.2 and 0.8 nm. The rather different Pt dispersion in α-SnO2 and α-Fe2O3 is due to the fact that Pt4+ can be stabilized in the α-SnO2 structure by replacing Sn4+ with Pt4+ in the crystal lattice, while the substitution of Fe3+ with Pt4+ is unfavorable and Pt4+ is mainly expelled from the lattice at the surface of α-Fe2O3 to form isolated platinum nanoparticles.

Zadovoljstvo stanovanjem jedan je od pokazatelja kvalitete života koji utječe na sve aspekte životnih dimenzija, od fizičkih, ekonomskih, socijalnih do psiholoških. Zbog svoje kompleksnosti, stanovanje se smatra interdisciplinarnim područjem istraživanja, pa različite struke primjenjuju različite pristupe, koncepte, modele i mjere. Da bi neko istraživanje o stanovanju moglo biti sveobuhvatno, nužno je dati teorijski okvir u njegovu proučavanju. U velikom broju znanstvenih radova, istraživanja i projekata, teorije stanovanja često nisu objašnjene potpuno. Na temelju proučene recentne literature ovaj rad donosi pregled i sintezu najčešće korištenih teorija o zadovoljstvu stanovanja na jednom mjestu. To su teorija stambenog zadovoljstva na kojoj počiva model zadovoljstva stanovanjem, a polazi od subjektivnih percepcija; teorija stambene prilagodbe kao najcitiranija teorija u istraživanjima zadovoljstva stanovanjem; teorija stambene pokretljivosti koja poseban naglasak stavlja na stambeno okruženje kao važnog prediktora zadovoljstva stanovanjem; teorija formiranja impresija koja se rabi pri ispitivanjima dojmova o fizičkim aspektima stambenog okoliša i fizičkoj strukturi zgrade/kuće; bihevioralna teorija kao najčešće korištena teorija u geografskom ispitivanju zadovoljstva stanovanjem; teorija hedonističkog ergometra kao najpoznatija teorija afektivnih iskustava; teorija aspiracijske spirale koja predviđa adaptacijske efekte; teorija troškova stanovanja koja zadovoljstvo stanovanjem povezuje s troškovima; funkcionalistička teorija koja je usmjerena društvenoj harmoniji; marksistička teorija prema kojoj svako biće ima pravo na adekvatno stanovanje neovisno o ekonomskom statusu i pozitivistička teorija stanovanja koja prednost daje objektivnom pristupu. Cilj pregleda navedenih teorija je njihovo sveobuhvatnije korištenje u istraživanjima zadovoljstva stanovanjem od mikrorazine do makrorazine. U radu je objašnjen koncept zadovoljstva stanovanjem i kritički osvrt za navedene teorije te su navedene njihove prednosti i nedostaci u istraživanjima zadovoljstva stanovanjem.

Housing satisfaction is one of the indicators of the quality of life. It affects all aspects of life dimensions, from physical, economic, social and psychological well-being. Because of its complexity, housing is considered an interdisciplinary research area. Different professions apply different approaches, concepts, models and measures in exploring housing satisfaction. For housing research to be comprehensive, it is necessary to formulate a theoretical framework first. In a large number of scientific papers, researches and projects, housing theories are often partially explained. For this reason, and based on a review of the latest literature, this paper provides a synthesis and overview of the following theories of housing quality satisfaction: the theory of housing satisfaction on which the model of housing satisfaction is based, starts with subjective perceptions, the theory of housing adjustment as the most frequently cited theory in the study of housing quality satisfaction; the housing mobility theory, which places particular emphasis on the housing environment as an important predictor of housing quality satisfaction; the theory on impression formation which is used in examining impressions of the physical aspects of the housing environment and the physical structure of buildings / houses; behavioural theory as the most commonly used theory in geographic study of housing satisfaction; the theory of the hedonistic ergometer as the most well-known theory of affective experiences; the theory of the aspiration spiral that anticipates adaptation effects; the housing price theory that combines housing satisfaction with costs; a functionalist theory that is oriented towards social harmony; the Marxist theory that every living being has the right to adequate housing regardless of economic status and the positivist housing theory which gives precedence to the objective approach. The purpose of this overview is to eatsblish a more comprehensive image in the study of housing satisfaction at all spatial levels (from micro to macro). The concept of housing satisfaction and a critical review of the aforementioned theories, as well as their advantages and disadvantages, are explained and presented in this paper.

The accurate extraction of a coastline is necessary for various studies of coastal processes, as well as for the management and protection of coastal areas. Very high-resolution satellite imagery has great potential for coastline extraction; however, noises in spectral data can cause significant errors. Here, we present a newly developed Coastal Extraction Tool (CET) that overcomes such errors and allows accurate and time-efficient automated coastline extraction based on a combination of WorldView-2 (WV-2) multispectral imagery and stereo-pair-derived digital surface model (DSM). Coastline extraction is performed and tested on the Iž-Rava island group, situated within the Northern Dalmatian archipelago (Croatia). Extracted coastlines were compared to (a) coastlines extracted from state topographic map (1:25,000), and (b) coastline extracted by another available tool. The accuracy of the extracted coastline was validated with centimeter accuracy reference data acquired using a UAV system (Matrice 600 Pro + MicaSense RedEdge-MX). Within the study area, two small islets were detected that have not been mapped during the earlier coastline mapping efforts. CET proved to be a highly accurate coastline mapping technique that successfully overcomes spectral-induced errors. In future research, we are planning to integrate data obtained by UAVs infrared thermography (IRT) and in situ sensors, measuring sea and land surface temperatures (SST and LST), into the CET, given that this has shown promising results. Considering its accuracy and ease of use, we suggest that CET can be applied for automated coastline extraction in other large and indented coastal areas. Additionally, we suggest that CET could be applied in longitudinal geomorphological coastal erosion studies for the automated detection of spatio-temporal coastline displacement.

Predmet istraživanja rada je tržišno natjecanje između trgovačkih centara u naselju Zadru. Osnovu istraživanja čine prostorni podatci prikupljeni različitim metodama i tehnikama, analizirani primjenom alata geografskoinformacijskog sustava (GIS) uz uvažavanje specifičnih tržišnih zakona. Prema kategorizaciji trgovačkih centara, definirano je šire tržišno područje unutar kojeg je analizirano tržišno natjecanje između trgovačkih centara. Izvođenjem demografskog rastera definirana je gustoća potencijalnih kupaca unutar širega tržišnog područja. Analiza natjecanja uključivala je određivanje tržišnih zona trgovačkih centara, pojavu potencijalnoga tržišnog kanibalizma te definiranje dominantnog centra prema varijabli vjerojatnosti odabira. Tržišne zone određene su na temelju atributa vremena vožnje (min). Metodama terenskog istraživanja, izračunom nelinearne udaljenosti te analizom gustoće trgovačkih centara zaključeno je da se između centara javlja tržišni kanibalizam. U svrhu predviđanja tržišne dominacije, primjenom Huffova modela, izračunate su srednje vrijednosti odabira centara unutar zona preklapanja i širega tržišnog područja. Rezultati Huffova modela potvrđuju tržišnu stvarnost, odnosno da veći broj kupaca unutar zona preklapanja i širega tržišnog područja odabire atraktivniji trgovački centar. Preklapanjem demografskog rastera i Huffova modela kvantificirana je razlika u broju ljudi koji posjećuju atraktivniji trgovački centar.

Gully erosion is one of the most prominent natural denudation processes of the Mediterranean. It causes significant soil degradation and sediment yield. Most traditional field methods for measurement of erosion-induced spatio-temporal changes are time and labor consuming, while their accuracy and precision are highly influenced by various factors. The main research question of this study was how the measurement approach of traditional field sampling methods can be automated and upgraded, while satisfying the required measurement accuracy. The VERTICAL method was developed as a fully automated raster-based method for detection and quantification of vertical spatio-temporal changes within a large number of gully cross-sections (GCs). The developed method was tested on the example of gully Santiš, located at Pag Island, Croatia. Repeat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry was used, as a cost-effective and practical method for the creation of very-high-resolution (VHR) digital surface models (DSMs) of the chosen gully site. A repeat aerophotogrammetric system (RAPS) was successfully assembled and integrated into one functional operating system. RAPS was successfully applied for derivation of interval (the two-year research period) DSMs (1.9 cm/pix) of gully Santiš with the accuracy of ±5 cm. VERTICAL generated and measured 2379 GCs, along the 110 m long thalweg of gully Santiš, within which 749 052 height points were sampled in total. VERTICAL proved to be a fast and reliable method for automated detection and calculation of spatio-temporal changes in a large number of GCs, which solved some significant shortcomings of traditional field methods. The versatility and adaptability of VERTICAL allow its application for other, similar scientific purposes, where multitemporal accurate measurement of spatio-temporal changes in GCs is required (e.g., river material dynamics, ice mass dynamics, tufa sedimentation and erosion).

Magnetic polymer gels are a new promising class of nanocomposite gels. In this work, magnetic PEO/iron oxide nanocomposite hydrogels were synthesized using the one-step γ-irradiation method starting from poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and iron(III) precursor alkaline aqueous suspensions followed by simultaneous crosslinking of PEO chains and reduction of Fe(III) precursor. γ-irradiation dose and concentrations of Fe3+, 2-propanol and PEO in the initial suspensions were varied and optimized. With 2-propanol and at high doses magnetic gels with embedded magnetite nanoparticles were obtained, as confirmed by XRD, SEM and Mössbauer spectrometry. The quantitative determination of γ-irradiation generated Fe2+ was performed using the 1,10-phenanthroline method. The maximal Fe2+ molar fraction of 0.55 was achieved at 300 kGy, pH = 12 and initial 5% of Fe3+. The DSC and rheological measurements confirmed the formation of a well-structured network. The thermal and rheological properties of gels depended on the dose, PEO concentration and initial Fe3+ content (amount of nanoparticles synthesized inside gels). More amorphous and stronger gels were formed at higher dose and higher nanoparticle content. The properties of synthesized gels were determined by the presence of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, which acted as reinforcing agents and additional crosslinkers of PEO chains thus facilitating the one-step gel formation.

Commercial micrometer silicon (Si) powder was investigated as a potential anode material for lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries. The characterization of this powder showed the mean particle size of approx.75.2 nm, BET surface area of 10.6 m2/g and average pore size of 0.56 nm. Its band gap was estimated to 1.35 eV as determined using UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra. In order to increase the surface area and porosity which is important for Li-ion batteries, the starting Si powder was ball-milled and threatened by metal-assisted chemical etching. The mechanochemical treatment resulted in decrease of the particle size from 75 nm to 29 nm, an increase of the BET surface area and average pore size to 16.7 m2/g and 1.26 nm, respectively, and broadening of the X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) lines. The XRD patterns of silver metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) sample showed strong and narrow diffraction lines typical for powder silicon and low-intensity diffraction lines typical for silver. The metal-assisted chemical etching of starting Si material resulted in a decrease of surface area to 7.3 m2/g and an increase of the average pore size to 3.44 nm. These three materials were used as the anode material in lithium-ion cells, and their electrochemical properties were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge cycles. The enhanced electrochemical performance of the sample prepared by MACE is attributed to increase in pore size, which are large enough for easy lithiation. These are the positive aspects of the application of MACE in the development of an anode material for Li-ion batteries.
