Forms and Formations of Memory. Artistic negotiations of (trans)individuations in light of contemporary memory conditions. In this PhD project I look into how processes of individuation and transindividuation are articulated in the arts practices of contemporary artists Jane Jin Kaisen (DK/KR, *1980), Mark Leckey (GB, *1964), Henrik Olesen (DK/DE, *1967), and Tabita Rezaire (FR/DK/GF, *1989) in light of what I term contemporary memory conditions. The study is informed primarily by the theorizations on individuation and transindividuation by French philosophers Gilbert Simondon and Bernard Stiegler – and not least how these processes relate to different symbolic and technical forms and formations of memory. The inquiry takes off from analyses of these arts practices, which each in their way interrogate, look into, articulate, reconstruct, and negotiate what I see as actualizations – or propositions – of possible, potential identities of the individual and collective alike, temporary as they may be, and how these propositions are composed from distinct material, technological, institutional, and aesthetic substrates. I see my project as a contribution to the shared inquiry into contemporaneity of The Contemporary Condition Research Project (www.contemporaneity.au.dk) through examining ways in which the past is actualized within the present, in the form of “exteriorizations,” and the means by which these are interiorized, individuated and negotiated on different levels. Thinking through the works of art I attempt to qualify the different means by which this operation takes place, the rhythm, or frequency, that this happens at, and how subjectivities and agencies are distributed within the specific symbolic, technical and social milieus.The analysis of the artistic practices leads into a discussion of contemporaneity as a condition of our historical present and contemporary art’s function in articulating and negotiating this condition, arguing for the importance of the double movements of the artistic interrogations of historical documents, on the one hand displaying specific historical circumstances, which cannot be undone, and on the other showing how it is possible to negotiate in the present which signification and direction toward the future, the past comes to hold. The acknowledgement that there will be potentials – potential meanings, potential operationalities – which remain left-over from the actualized individuations thus serves as a promise of a possibility of further negotiation and maybe reconciliation. In this way the artworks in themselves function as milieus or information for further individuations and transindividuations, which are yet to snap into place, as propositions of potential formations of memory through exteriorizations, actualizations, organizations and interiorizations, which have not yet been actualized.

This article investigates artistic constructions and negotiations of autobiography that articulate what will here be termed complex contemporaneities; distinct points from which a range of factual and possible trajectories bifurcates in time and space. The reading follows a tradition for artistic practice and criticism engaging with the notions of “archive” and “history” (understood as both historiography and archaeological traces from the passing of time) but focusing on the artworks as propositions of how the individual sees him-/herself emerging from a background of exteriorised and distributed memories. The investigations of individuation processes that take place within the works are seen in view of the present conditions for inscribing, reading and circulating information, knowledge and experience.

This article is an exercise in thinking through the images and operations offered by a selection of contemporary art practices concerned with propositions of historical agency and forms of collectivity related to memory, by connecting a tale of the big computer, to a string of COBOL code, and a shipwrecked rhinoceros and a diver as well as the two figures from Indic mythology, Yaksha and Yakshi. Taken together the artworks become an expression of the challenge posed to the present in how to understand, which “now” it is that we inhabit and with whom, asking which fragments of the past we actualize and inform in order to find directions towards the future.

Det er projektets formål at påvise den grundlæggende hypotese, at der gennembelysningsmiljøer, hvor der arbejdes bevidst med differentieret lys, både kan spares på energiforbruget til den kunstige belysning og skabes ro og fokuseret læring. Dette opnås ved at lyset placeres tættere på området, der skal belyses så spildlys undgås samt kommer ned i øjenhøjde og afgrænser rum i kraft af lys, mørke og kontraster. Således opnås der ud over energibesparelse også større komfort og ro i klasselokalet. Dette pilotstudie viser, at fordelingen af belysning i lokaler kan have en betydelig indvirkning på læringsmiljøet. Yderligere undersøgelser er nødvendige for at få fuldt ud at forstå indflydelse og mekanismer.Hovedresultaterne fra projektet viser at:1) Energibesparelse.Der opnås energibesparelse ved at placere lyset tættere på det område der skal belyses. I dette tilfælde elevernes arbejdsborde. Vi kalder denne type belysning for fokuseret lys, og skabes typisk med pendler. Energibesparelsen er vurderet i forhold til det klassiske belysningssystem i en skoleklasse, hvor der belyses jævnt i hele klassen fra armaturer integreret i loftet. Energibesparelsen varierer afhængig af om belysningen kan dæmpes. I det scenarie hvor pendlerne er på max output opnås energibesparelse på 32-38% i de 4 undersøgte lokaler. Ved yderligere at give brugerne mulighed for at dæmpe pendlerne kan opnås energibesparelser på op til 68%.2) Ro i lokaletStøjniveauet blev målt under både den fokuserede belysning og den generelleloftsbelysning. Ved at sammenligne 20 ens-svarende undervisningssituationer med hensyn til aktivitetstype og antal studerende fandt vi, at støjniveauet for 70% af de målte tilfælde sænkes mellem 1-6dB, hvilket potentielt indebærer, at eleverne kan fokusere bedre. Af de 14 forbedrede forhold viser 11 tilfælde en hørbar forbedring på mellem 1 og 3 dB, og vi fandt 4 tilfælde med mere end 3 dB, hvilket betragtes som en betydelig forbedring. Den gennemsnitlige forbedring i støjniveauet var ikke stor, men klart over den perceptuelle mærkbare forskel.3) Forbedret indlæringIndlæring blev testet i form af matematik- og kreativitet test. Analyser af matematiktests, viser at elevernes resultater forbedres mellem 2 og 25% under fokuserede belysningsforhold i forhold til den generelle belysning. Disse resultater indikerer at eleverne får bedre testresultater under den fokuserede belysning. Analyserne af kreativitetstests viser at eleverne både er mere og mindre kreative under den fokuserede belysning. Resultaterne fra pilot-studiet viser, at det er vigtigt at give eleverne et lys, der kan tilpasses efter undervisningssituationen.4) LysfordelingVed alene brug af loftsbelysning opnåede alle klasseværelser de belysningsstyrker, der anbefales i lysstandarderne EN12464-1 og DS700. De fleste af rummene har en vandret belysning på 200lux eller derover (højest 450lux) i arbejdsplanet. Ensartetheden er 0,4 eller højere for 63% af målingerne og aldrig lavere end 0,3.Når pendler er en del af scenariet, er ensartetheden under 0,2 for alle tilfælde, og belysningsniveauet mellem pendlerne viser 50-150lux afhængigt af om loftbelysningen er tændt eller slukket. Det betyder, at ensartetheden, der anbefales i de tidligere nævnte standarder, ikke er opfyldt. Med pendler tændt, har børnenes arbejdsområde en vandret belysning på 500lux eller mere.Med pendler tændt observeres en variation i rummets lysfordeling, der skaber fokuserede lyse områder hvor børn arbejder og blødt lys mellem arbejdsområder. Med det mere jævnt fordelte lysscenarie fra loftsbelysningen, er belysningsforholdene ret ensartede i hele lokalet, og der skabes ikke områder med fokus.5) Kvalitative resultaterDerudover viste de kvalitative undersøgelse, at brugen af pendlerne kan give anledning til ændret adfærd hos eleverne. Der var specielt en adfærdsændring at se, når eleverne blev sat til at løse specifikke opgaver. Brugerne var så tilfredse med pendlerne, at de vil beholde dem som et permanent tiltag i deres undervisning. Dette er en positiv bekræftelse på, at den nye belysning har et positivt bidrag.

Background: Adverse events are an important issue that gives consequences for all involved parts. Nationally several changes have been made in order to try to reduce the number of adverse events. The challenge is to find documentation of outcome that shows a significant improvement as a direct result of the changes made. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to see if there is any documented effect of the political strategy for increased patient safety. Material: National rapports, laws and publications that rapports on effect of implemented interventions to improve patient safety. Methods: Document analysis and case study Results: There is no documented effect that has a connection to the political strategy ore the interventions made in the Norwegian project to increase patient safety, although some effects has been documented in the period of this study. Conclusion: Quality improvement has not been documented as a result of the Norwegian patient safety strategy. Bakgrunn: Avvik og alvorlige uheldige hendelser er et viktig tema som får konsekvenser for alle parter som er involvert. Nasjonalt har det blitt gjort mange tiltak for å redusere antall uheldige hendelser. Utfordringen kan være å finne dokumentasjon for at tiltak gir målbare effekter i form av redusert tall uheldige hendelser. Hensikt: Hensikten med denne oppgaven er å se om der finnes dokumentert effekt av tiltak som er gjort på bestilling fra politisk nivå. Materiale: Nasjonale rapporter, lovverk og publikasjoner som omhandler effekt av tiltak gjennomført. Metode: Dokumentanalyse og case studie Resultat: Der er forekomster av forbedring på enkelte områder, men man kan ikke si om de har sammenheng med pasientsikkerhetskampanjens innsatsområder eller om det har andre årsaker. Man kan heller ikke si om det er varige forbedringer eller om det er tilfeldige forekomster på de undersøkte områdene. Konklusjon: Der er ikke dokumentert varige kvalitetsforbedringer som en konsekvens av innsatsområdene i pasientsikkerhetskampanjen. HELVID650 MATF-HEVID

Background: Building capacity in a changing health care system is a challenge for advanced nursing education programs. Master-level nursing education is increasingly becoming the required education level for specialist nurses, and additional studies are needed to learn more about students’ experiences and learning transitions while undertaking such education. This study aimed to explore nursing students’ experience of their learning transitions while undertaking advanced nursing education and to describe how they translated the new knowledge and competence they gained into clinical practice. Methods: We used a qualitative research design with narrative self-reported reflections. 34 nurses (95 % women) from both urban and rural areas working with children, with adults in outpatient and inpatient endocrinology clinics in hospitals or with adults, including older people, attending primary health care services participated in the study. We collected data at two time points 15 months apart. Time one was the first week of the advanced nursing education, and time two was the completion of the education program. We used Malterud’s modification of Giorgi’s phenomenological analysis, otherwise known as systematic text condensation, to analyze the data. Results: Two core themes captured the participants’ experiences. The first theme was “assessing the situation of people with diabetes from a different perspective”, with the subthemes “an expanded perspective of practice and higher level of reflection”, “applying critical thinking in practice” and “changing patient-nurse relationships in diabetes care”. The second core theme was “a change in participants’ perception of their professional position”, with the subthemes “a greater knowledge base enhancing professional confidence” and “a more equal position within the professional team”. Conclusions: The study provides in-depth information about transition into advanced nursing education and can inform curriculum developers, nurse educators, policy-makers and nursing managers about how nursing education broadened participants’ perspectives of nursing and enhanced their confidence and professional position.
