We developed an amblyopia-training device, which can be used easily and inexpensively under binocular conditions with polarizing films. The device uses two polarizing films: one is attached to the training target (such as monitors and books), while the other is attached to the lens of glasses that cover the healthy eye with the absorption axis rotated 90 degrees. This allows the target to be presented only to the amblyopic eye under binocular conditions. Amblyopia training with this device was performed for 1 h per day in 14 patients with anisometropic amblyopia. The training resulted in a significant improvement in visual acuity, and a significant correlation was observed between the improvement in visual acuity and the adherence rate, indicating the effectiveness of the device for amblyopia training under binocular conditions.
