Among the meson decays, K → π ν ν ‾ are the cleanest environment, from the theoretical point of view, where to search for new physics effects. The NA62 Experiment at CERN SPS aims to measure the BR ( K + → π + ν ν ‾ ) with a 10% precision by the end of 2018. It has been commissioned with technical runs in 2014 and 2015, and some preliminary results of the detector performances and quality of data are here reported.

The NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS is aimed at measuring the branching fraction of the ultrarare decay K+ → π+v with ~10% precision by collecting ~1013 kaon decays in two years of data taking. This amount of data will allow to carry out a wide program of searching for rare and forbidden (within the Standard Model) K+ and π0 decays, including sterile neutrinos, lepton flavor violating modes, exotic particles (e.g. "dark photons"). The expected performances of the NA62 setup will allow to improve existing limits for several decay modes.

The proposed International Linear Collider (ILC) is well-suited for discovering physics beyond the Standard Model and for precisely unraveling the structure of the underlying physics. The physics return can be maximized by the use of polarized beams. This report shows the paramount role of polarized beams and summarizes the benefits obtained from polarizing the positron beam, as well as the electron beam. The physics case for this option is illustrated explicitly by analyzing reference reactions in different physics scenarios. The results show that positron polarization, combined with the clean experimental environment provided by the linear collider, allows to improve strongly the potential of searches for new particles and the identification of their dynamics, which opens the road to resolve shortcomings of the Standard Model. The report also presents an overview of possible designs for polarizing both beams at the ILC, as well as for measuring their polarization.

A 21-year-old man presented with an uncommon asymptomatic case of right-sided congenital subclavian steal. On physical examination, his blood pressure was 115/80 mmHg in the left arm, but could not be measured in the right arm. Magnetic resonance angiography demonstrated that the origin of the right subclavian artery was atretic, and supplied by a number of collaterals near the origins of the internal mammary and vertebral arteries. Subclavian steal should be a diagnostic consideration in any patient who presents with a pulse deficit or a systolic blood pressure difference of greater than 15 mmHg. A description of the acquired and congenital varieties of subclavian steal is provided.

An experimental investigation has been carried out into the influence of side-plate flow restrictors on the performance of a squeeze-film damper bearing. The experimental rig used was a flexible rotor with a disc positioned mid-way between two squeeze-film damper bearings. One of the squeeze-film dampers was fitted with side-plates which could be adjusted and accurately located with respect to the squeeze-film damper journal.It has been found that the influence of the side-plate clearance on the ability of the squeeze-film damper to reduce the amplitude of the central disc can be considerable if the side-plate clearance is less than the radial clearance. As the side-plate clearance reduces towards zero, the effectiveness of the squeeze-film damper diminishes until the amplitudes obtained are the same as those measured when the rolling-contact bearing is rigidly supported.An interesting type of precessing elliptical orbit was discovered for conditions where the ‘jump’ phenomenon was operating.Copyright © 1983 by ASME

In this paper we present new results on upper limits for the search of Heavy Neutral Leptons (HNL) with data collected by NA48/2 (2003-2004), NA62-RK (2007) and NA62 (2015) CERN experiments. The data collected with different trigger configuration allow to search for both long and short living heavy neutrinos in the mass range below the kaon mass. In addition the status of the search for K+ → π+vv with the NA62 detector will be briefly presented.

The NA62 experiment at SPS is a continuation of the long standing CERN kaon physics program. The high statistics and the unprecedent precision allow to probe the Standard Model and test the description of the strong interactions at low energy. The final results on the the lepton universality test by measuring the ratio $R_K = \Gamma(K^{+}\to e^{+}\nu) / \Gamma(K^{+}\to \mu^{+}\nu)$ and the study of the $K^\pm\to\pi^{\pm}\gamma\gamma $ decay are presented. The major goal of the NA62 experiment is to perform a measurement of the $Br(K^{+} \to \pi^{+} \nu \bar{\nu})$ with a precision of 10% in two years of data taking. The main goal of the NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS accelerator is to measure the branching fraction of the ultra-rare decay K+→π+ν with 10% accuracy. Key aspects of the detector configuration are described, with emphasis on tagging and timestamping the minority kaons in the high intensity, unseparated, charged-particle beam using KTAG, an upgraded version of a CEDAR differential Cherenkov detector. Data are presented showing that KTAG was successfully commissioned at CERN in November 2012.

22. Supporting self-management for patients with Interstitial Lung Diseases: Utility and acceptability of digital devices.

- Abstract
Introduction: Patients diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD) use devices to self-monitor their health and well-being. Little is known about the range of devices, selection, frequency and terms of use and overall utility. We sought to quantify patients' usage and experiences with home digital devices, and further evaluate their perceived utility and barriers to adaptation., Methods: A team of expert clinicians and patient partners interested in self-management approaches designed a 48-question cross-sectional electronic survey; specifically targeted at individuals diagnosed with ILD. The survey was critically appraised by the interdisciplinary self-management group at Royal Devon University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust during a 6-month validation process. The survey was open for participation between September 2021 and December 2022, and responses were collected anonymously. Data were analysed descriptively for quantitative aspects and through thematic analysis for qualitative input., Results: 104 patients accessed the survey and 89/104 (86%) reported a diagnosis of lung fibrosis, including 46/89 (52%) idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) with 57/89 (64%) of participants diagnosed >3 years and 59/89 (66%) female. 52/65(80%) were in the UK; 33/65 (51%) reported severe breathlessness medical research council MRC grade 3-4 and 32/65 (49%) disclosed co-morbid arthritis or joint problems. Of these, 18/83 (22%) used a hand- held spirometer, with only 6/17 (35%) advised on how to interpret the readings. Pulse oximetry devices were the most frequently used device by 35/71 (49%) and 20/64 (31%) measured their saturations more than once daily. 29/63 (46%) of respondents reported home-monitoring brought reassurance; of these, for 25/63 (40%) a feeling of control. 10/57 (18%) felt it had a negative effect, citing fluctuating readings as causing stress and 'paranoia'. The most likely help-seeking triggers were worsening breathlessness 53/65 (82%) and low oxygen saturation 43/65 (66%). Nurse specialists were the most frequent source of help 24/63 (38%).
