Purpose of Review In this review, we provide a brief history of intraocular robotic surgical systems and review the latest technological advancements. The goals are to (a) provide readers with a clear understanding of the important work that has been done in this field; (b) illuminate existing challenges towards full clinical adoption; and (c) speculate on future directions. Recent Findings The majority of work on intraocular robotic surgical systems has been done in university research settings, although two systems have been evaluated in human clinical trials and one system is commercially available for use in human patients. Summary The future of robotic systems in intraocular surgical procedures will depend on the results of ongoing clinical trials and the success of recent start-up companies. Many challenges remain before such systems can become safe and effective treatment options. However, the future of intraocular robotic surgical systems is bright and full of promise.

Fully-actuated multi-rotor aerial platforms are receiving increasing research interests for the capability of six degree-of-freedom (DOF) motions such as hovering at non-horizontal attitude angles. Existing real world hardware and experiments have demonstrated such capability for a limited range of angles. This letter presents an aerial platform that achieves maneuvering at arbitrary attitudes with uniformly high thrust efficiencies. We propose a novel vectoring thrust force actuator by mounting a regular quadcopter on a passive mechanical gimbal mechanism. The UAV platform achieves full six-DOF motion with redundancies from four of these vectoring thrust actuators. We present the hierarchical controller, which generates high-level virtual wrench commands, allocations to actuators, and low-level actuator controls. We demonstrate the first real-world experiments of any pose maneuver over 360 degrees without requiring unwrapping rotations.

Neuroimaging studies point to neurostructural abnormalities in youth with anxiety disorders. Yet, findings are based on small-scale studies, often with small effect sizes, and have limited generalizability and clinical relevance. These issues have prompted a paradigm shift in the field towards highly powered (i.e., big data) individual-level inferences, which are data-driven, transdiagnostic, and neurobiologically informed. Here, we built and validated neurostructural machine learning (ML) models for individual-level inferences based on the largest-ever multi-site neuroimaging sample of youth with anxiety disorders (age: 10-25 years, N=3,343 individuals from 32 global sites), as compiled by three ENIGMA Anxiety Working Groups: Panic Disorder (PD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). ML classifiers were trained on MRI-derived regional measures of cortical thickness, surface area, and subcortical volumes to classify patients and healthy controls (HC) for each anxiety disorder separately and across disorders (transdiagnostic classification). Modest, yet robust, classification performance was achieved for PD vs. HC (AUC=0.62), but other disorder-specific and transdiagnostic classifications were not significantly different from chance. However, above chance-level transdiagnostic classifications were obtained in exploratory subgroup analyses of male patients vs. male HC, unmedicated patients vs. HC, and patients with low anxiety severity vs. HC (AUC 0.59-0.63). The above chance-level classifications were based on plausible and specific neuroanatomical features in fronto-striato-limbic and temporo-parietal regions. This study provides a realistic estimate of classification performance in a large, ecologically valid, multi-site sample of youth with anxiety disorders, and may as such serve as a benchmark.

The overarching goal of this letter is to demonstrate the feasibility of using optical coherence tomography (OCT) to guide a robotic system to extract lens fragments from ex vivo pig eyes. A convolutional neural network (CNN) was developed to semantically segment four intraocular structures (lens material, capsule, cornea, and iris) from OCT images. The neural network was trained on images from ten pig eyes, validated on images from eight different eyes, and tested on images from another ten eyes. This segmentation algorithm was incorporated into the Intraocular Robotic Interventional Surgical System (IRISS) to realize semi-automated detection and extraction of lens material. To demonstrate the system, the semi-automated detection and extraction task was performed on seven separate ex vivo pig eyes. The developed neural network exhibited 78.20% for the validation set and 83.89% for the test set in mean intersection over union metrics. Successful implementation and efficacy of the developed method were confirmed by comparing the preoperative and postoperative OCT volume scans from the seven experiments.

OBJECTIVES: To determine patterns of mask wearing and other infection prevention behaviours, over two time periods of the COVID-19 pandemic, in cities where mask wearing was not a cultural norm. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey of masks and other preventive behaviours in adults aged ≥18 years was conducted in five cities: Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; London, UK; and Phoenix and New York, USA. Data were analysed according to the epidemiology of COVID-19, mask mandates and a range of predictors of mask wearing. RESULTS: The most common measures used were avoiding public areas (80.4%), hand hygiene (76.4%), wearing masks (71.8%) and distancing (67.6%). Over 40% of people avoided medical facilities. These measures decreased from March-July 2020. Pandemic fatigue was associated with younger age, low perceived severity of COVID-19 and declining COVID-19 prevalence. This combined experimental and computational study builds on our previous studies to elucidate the reaction mechanism of methanol oxidation by OsVIII oxido/hydroxido species (in basic aqueous media) while accounting for the simultaneous formation of OsVII species via a comproportionation reaction between OsVIII and OsVI. UV-Vis spectroscopy kinetic analyses with either CH3OH or the deuterated analogue CD3OH as a reducing agent revealed that transfer of α-carbon-hydrogen of methanol is the partial rate-limiting step. The resulting relatively large KIE value of approximately 11.82 is a combination of primary and secondary isotope effects. The Eyring plots for the oxidation of these isotopologues of methanol under the same reaction conditions are parallel to each other and hence have the same activation enthalpy [Δ⧧H° = 14.4 ± 1.2 kcal mol-1 (CH3OH) and 14.5 ± 1.3 kcal mol-1 (CD3OH)] but lowered activation entropy (Δ⧧S°) from -12.5 ± 4.1 cal mol-1 K-1 (CH3OH) to -17.1 ± 4.4 cal mol-1 K-1 (CD3OH). DFT computational studies at the PBE-D3 level with QZ4P (Os) and pVQZ (O and H) basis sets provide clear evidence to support the data and interpretations derived from the experimental kinetic work. Comparative DFT mechanistic investigations in a simulated aqueous phase (COSMO) indicate that methanol and OsVIII first associate to form a noncovalent adduct bound together by intermolecular H-bonding interactions. This is followed by spin-forbidden α-carbon-hydrogen transfer (not O-H transfer) from methanol to OsVIII by means of HAT, which is found to be the partial rate-limiting step. Without the organic and inorganic fragments dissociating from each other during the entire stepwise redox reaction (in order to avoid formation of highly energetically unfavorable monomer species), the HAT step is followed by PT and then ET before the final product monomers formaldehyde and OsVI dissociate from each other. DFT-calculated Δ⧧H° is within 5 kcal mol-1 of the experimentally obtained value, while the DFT Δ⧧S° is three times larger than that found from the experiment.

Tracheostomy is the commonest bedside surgical procedure performed on patients needing mechanical ventilation with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The researchers made an effort to organize a narrative review of the indications, timing, management, complications, and outcomes of tracheostomy in relation to neuronal and brain-injured patients following TBI. The study observations were collated from the published literature, namely original articles, book chapters, case series, randomized studies, systematic reviews, and review articles. Information sorting was restricted to tracheostomy and its association with TBI. Care was taken to review the correlation of tracheostomy with clinical correlates including indications, scheduling, interventions, prognosis, and complications of the patients suffering from mild, moderate and severe TBIs using Glasgow Coma Scale, Glasgow Outcome Scale, intraclass correlation coefficient, and other internationally acclaimed outcome scales. Tracheostomy is needed to overcome airway obstruction, prolonged respiratory failure and as indispensable component of mechanical ventilation due to diverse reasons in intensive care unit. Researchers are divided over early tracheostomy or late tracheostomy from days to weeks. The conventional classic surgical technique of tracheostomy has been superseded by percutaneous techniques by being less invasive with lesser complications, classified into early and late complications that may be life threatening. Additional studies have to be conducted to validate and streamline varied observations to frame evidence-based practice for successful weaning and decannulation. Tracheostomy is a safer option in critically ill TBI patients for which a universally accepted protocol for tracheostomy is needed that can help to optimize indications and outcomes.

Events planned for the annual commemoration of Leopold Bloom's verbal and physical engagements with his fellow Dubliners were upended this year by Covid-19, the deadly global pandemic that changed all our lives. With lockdowns, sheltering-in-place, and social distancing, the coronavirus knocked out in-person attendance at Ulysses activities all over the world. In hindsight, Bloomsday 2020 will be remembered as Zoomsday, when digital media--including Zoom, a conferencing application and various other Internet sites--were the primary means for taking part in recognizing the one-hundred-sixteenth anniversary of the big day. One great advantage of the changed circumstance this year was the necessarily increased availability of access to multiple Bloomsday-related activities via the flexibility of electronic media, often at little or no cost. In sum, sampling multiple Bloomsday events this year was indeed a unique experience--zooming around while sheltering-in-place. Future celebrations should take a cue from 2020, combining in-person activities with more opportunities to see them digitally.

Ionizing radiation can cause increased opacity of the lens and later lead to radiation-induced cataract. Therefore, the eye lens should be positioned outside of the direct radiation beam in cranial computed tomography (CCT). If this is not possible, protective measures must be taken, which includes the use of external lens protectors. In this study we assess whether direct radiation exposure of the eyes in CCT can be reduced by trained radiographers and whether the use of eye lens protectors improves after training.First, we evaluated 763 non-enhanced CCT regarding direct radiation exposure of eyeballs and eye lenses and usage of lens shielding. Afterwards, we trained radiographers to avoid radiation exposure of the eyes by head adjustment and protectors and assessed the improvements in a subsequent study of 678 CCT. We tried to identify factors that influenced radiation exposure of the eye lens.After training, frequency of radiation exposure of lenses was significantly reduced by 5.9% (220/763 patients in pre- vs. 155/678 patients in post-training group, p = 0.01). The use of external lens protectors significantly increased after training by 9.8% (37/763 patients in pre- vs. 99/678 patients in post-training group, p 0.001). The absence of tiltable headrest was a risk factor for increased eye lens radiation exposure in the pre-training group. The presence of cervical spine immobilizer was associated with more frequent radiation exposure of the lenses in the pre- and post-training group.Radiographer training and the use of tiltable headrest lead to reduction of radiation exposure to the eye lens.Radiographer training is an effective method to reduce eye lens exposure in CCT. The usage of tiltable headrest minimizes the radiation exposure of the lenses.

Mutations in KCNC3, the gene that encodes the Kv3.3 voltage dependent potassium channel, cause Spinocerebellar Ataxia type 13 (SCA13), a disease associated with disrupted motor behaviors, progressive cerebellar degeneration, and abnormal auditory processing. The Kv3.3 channel directly binds Hax-1, a cell survival protein. A disease-causing mutation, Kv3.3-G592R, causes overstimulation of Tank Binding Kinase 1 (Tbk1) in the cerebellum, resulting in the degradation of Hax-1 by promoting its trafficking into multivesicular bodies and then to lysosomes. We have now tested the effects of antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) directed against the Kv3.3 channel on both wild type mice and those bearing the Kv3.3-G592R-encoding mutation. Intracerebroventricular infusion of the Kcnc3-specific ASO suppressed both mRNA and protein levels of the Kv3.3 channel. In wild-type animals, this produced no change in levels of activated Tbk1, Hax-1 or Cd63, a tetraspanin marker for late endosomes/multivesicular bodies. In contrast, in mice homozygous for the Kv3.3-G592R-encoding mutation, the same ASO reduced Tbk1 activation and levels of Cd63, while restoring the expression of Hax-1 in the cerebellum. The motor behavior of the mice was tested using a rotarod assay. Surprisingly, the active ASO had no effects on the motor behavior of wild type mice but restored the behavior of the mutant mice to those of age-matched wild type animals. Our findings indicate that, in mature intact animals, suppression of Kv3.3 expression can reverse the deleterious effects of a SCA13 mutation while having little effect on wild type animals. Thus, targeting Kv3.3 expression may prove a viable therapeutic approach for SCA13.

Introduction/Background* Ovarian cancer (OC) is associated with the highest mortality rates among gynecological malignancies, with most patients being diagnosed in advanced stages. The most common histological subtype is high grade serous OC, which is characterized by deficiency in homologous recombination. Debulking surgery, followed by platinum based chemotherapy and bevacizumab (bev), followed by maintenance therapy with bev, is the standard therapy for advanced BRCA wild type (BRCAwt) OC patients in Germany. BRCA mutant patients will receive maintenance with olaparib, according to SOLO1 data. The anticancer effects of PARP inhibitors (PARPi) seem to be increased by the addition of antiangiogenic drugs. Preclinical data showed increased HRD in tumors pretreated with bev, and clinical trials showed a benefit of the combination of antiangiogenic drugs and PARPi vs. PARPi alone. NOGGO Ov-42/MAMOC trial (NCT04227522) is a phase 3, randomized, placebo-controlled study evaluating rucaparib maintenance following bevacizumab maintenance for the treatment of advanced primary high grade BRCAwt OC. Methodology 190 patients with histologically confirmed advanced (FIGO stage IIIA- IV of the 2014 FIGO classification) high grade serous or high grade endometrioid (based on local histopathological findings) OC, fallopian tube cancer, primary peritoneal cancer or clear cell carcinoma of the ovary will be randomized 2:1 to receive either rucaparib 600mg BID or placebo as maintenance therapy following first line chemotherapy with 6 cycles of Carboplatin/Paclitaxel and at least 12 cycles of bev, given together with chemotherapy and as maintenance. Only BRCAwt patients will be included in the trial. Randomization is stratified by surgery planned timepoint (neoadjuvant vs. adjuvant), surgical outcome (no residual tumor mass vs. residual tumor mass), response to chemotherapy followed by bev (CR/NED vs. PR/SD) and study center. Treatment will continue for 24 months or until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, or withdrawal. Primary endpoint is PFS in BRCAwt patients per RECIST v1.1. Secondary endpoints are PFS2, quality of life (EORTC QLQ-C30/OV28, Fatigue Symptom Inventory, SF-12, PROC-CTCAE, Everyday Memory Questionnaire), daily activity, time to next medical intervention, time to next subsequent therapy, safety assessments and OS. he Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 3,324 new measurements from 878 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 120 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including a new review on High Energy Soft QCD and Diffraction and one on the Determination of CKM Angles from B Hadrons. The Review is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 98 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 22 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. The complete Review (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group (pdg.lbl.gov) and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the PDG Book. A Particle Physics Booklet with the Summary Tables and essential tables, figures, and equations from selected review articles is available in print and as a web version optimized for use on phones as well as an Android app.

The Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY 2021/22 is the fifth in this series of biennial publications. The Concise Guide provides concise overviews, mostly in tabular format, of the key properties of nearly 1900 human drug targets with an emphasis on selective pharmacology (where available), plus links to the open access knowledgebase source of drug targets and their ligands (www.guidetopharmacology.org), which provides more detailed views of target and ligand properties. Although the Concise Guide constitutes over 500 pages, the material presented is substantially reduced compared to information and links presented on the website. It provides a permanent, citable, point-in-time record that will survive database updates. The full contents of this section can be found at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/bph.15537. In addition to this overview, in which are identified 'Other protein targets' which fall outside of the subsequent categorisation, there are six areas of focus: G protein-coupled receptors, ion channels, nuclear hormone receptors, catalytic receptors, enzymes and transporters. These are presented with nomenclature guidance and summary information on the best available pharmacological tools, alongside key references and suggestions for further reading. The landscape format of the Concise Guide is designed to facilitate comparison of related targets from material contemporary to mid-2021, and supersedes data presented in the 2019/20, 2017/18, 2015/16 and 2013/14 Concise Guides and previous Guides to Receptors and Channels. It is produced in close conjunction with the Nomenclature and Standards Committee of the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (NC-IUPHAR), therefore, providing official IUPHAR classification and nomenclature for human drug targets, where appropriate.

Objective The objective of this work was to develop and experimentally validate a bioimpedance-based framework to identify tissues in contact with the surgical instrument during cataract surgery. Methods This work introduces an integrated hardware and software solution based on the unique bioimpedance of different intraocular tissues. The developed hardware can be readily integrated with commonly used surgical instruments. The proposed software framework, which encompasses data acquisition and a machine-learning classifier, is fast enough to be deployed in real-time surgical interventions. The experimental protocol included bioimpedance data collected from 31 ex vivo pig eyes targeting four intraocular tissues: Iris, Cornea, Lens, and Vitreous. Results A classifier based on a support vector machine exhibited an overall accuracy of 91% across all trials. The algorithm provided substantial performance in detecting the intraocular tissues with 100% reliability and 95% sensitivity for the lens, along with 88% reliability and 94% sensitivity for the vitreous. Conclusion The developed impedance-based framework demonstrated successful intraocular tissue identification. Significance Clinical implications include the ability to ensure safe operations by detecting posterior capsule rapture with 94% probability and improving surgical efficacy through lens detection with 100% reliability.

Research purpose. Smart City technologies offer great promise for a higher quality of life, including improved public services, in an era of rapid and intense global urbanization. The use of intelligent or smart information and communication technologies to produce more efficient systems of services in those urban areas, captured under the broad rubric of “smart cities,” also create new vectors of risk and vulnerability. The aim of this article is to raise consideration of an integrated cross-domain approach for risk reduction based on the risks smart cities are exposed to, on the one hand, from natural disasters and, on the other, from cyber-attacks. Design / Methodology / Approach. This contribution describes and explains the risk profile for which smart cities are exposed to both natural disasters and cyber-attacks. The vulnerability of smart city technologies to natural hazards and cyber-attacks will first be summarized briefly from each domain, outlining those respective domain characteristics. Subsequently, methods and approaches for risk reduction in the areas of natural hazards and ICT security will be examined in order to create the basis for an integrated cross-domain approach to risk reduction. Differences are also clearly identified if an adaptation of a risk reduction pattern appears unsuitable. Finally, the results are summarized into an initial, preliminary integrated cross-domain approach to risk reduction. Findings. Risk management in the two domains of ICT security and natural hazards is basically similar. Both domains use a multilayer approach in risk reduction, both have reasonably well-defined regimes and established risk management protocols. At the same time, both domains share a policymaking and policy implementation challenge of the difficulty of appropriately forecasting future risk and making corresponding resource commitments to address future risk. Despite similarities, different concepts like the CIA Triad, community resilience, absorption capacity and so on exist too. Future research of these concepts could lead to improve risk management. Originality / Value / Practical implications. Cyber-attacks on the ICT infrastructure of smart cities are a major vulnerability – but relatively little systematic evaluation exists on the topic. Likewise, ICT infrastructure is vulnerable to natural disasters too – and the risk of more severe natural disasters in the context of a global trend toward massive cities is increasing dramatically. Explicit consideration of the issues associated with cross-domain integration of reduction of interdependent risk is a necessary step in ensuring smart city technologies also serve to promote longer-term community sustainability and resilience.

PURPOSE –: The aim of this study was to evaluate semi-automated surgical procedures for lens extraction by using the OCT-integrated Intraocular Robotic Interventional Surgical System (IRISS). SETTING –: A collaboration between the Stein Eye Institute and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles. DESIGN –: Semi-automated lens extraction was performed on 30 post-mortem pig eyes using a robotic platform integrated with an optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging system. The lens extraction was performed using a series of automated steps including robot-to-eye alignment, irrigation/aspiration (I/A) handpiece insertion, anatomical modeling, surgical path planning, and I/A handpiece navigation. Intraoperative surgical supervision and human intervention were enabled by providing real-time OCT image feedback to the surgeon via a graphical user interface (GUI). METHODS –: Manual preparation of the pig eye models, including corneal incision and capsulorhexis, was performed by a trained cataract surgeon prior to the semi-automated procedures for lens extraction. A scoring system was used to assess surgical complications in postoperative evaluation. RESULTS –: The semi-automated lens extraction procedures were performed on 30 post-mortem pig eyes. Complete lens extraction was achieved on 25 of 30 eyes. For the remaining five eyes, small (≤ 1 mm(3)) pieces of lens were postoperatively detected near the lens equator where the transpupillary OCT was unable to image. No posterior capsule rupture or corneal leakage was reported. The mean surgical duration was 277±42 s. Based on a 3-point scale (with 0 representing no damage), damage to the iris was 0.33±0.20, damage to the cornea was 1.47±0.20 (due to tissue dehydration), and stress at the incision was 0.97±0.11. CONCLUSION –: The efficacy of performing semi-automated lens extraction procedures in animal models was evaluated with post-mortem pig eyes. No posterior capsule rupture was reported and complete lens removal was achieved in 25 trials without significant surgical complications. Further refinements to the procedures will be required before fully automated lens extraction can be realized.

The hippocampus is well established as an essential brain center for learning and memory. Within the hippocampus, recent studies show that area CA2 is important for social memory, and is an anomaly compared to its better understood neighboring region, CA1. Unlike CA1, CA2 displays a lack of typical synaptic plasticity, enhanced calcium buffering and extrusion, and resilience to cell death following injury. Although recent studies have identified multiple molecular markers of area CA2, the proteins that mediate the unique physiology, signaling, and resilience of this region are unknown. Using a transgenic GFP-reporter mouse line that expresses eGFP in CA2, we were able to perform targeted dissections of area CA2 and CA1 for proteomic analysis. We identified over 100 proteins with robustly enriched expression in area CA2 compared to CA1. Many of these proteins, including RGS14 and NECAB2 have already been shown to be enriched in CA2 and important for its function, while many more merit further study in the context of enhanced expression in this enigmatic brain region. Furthermore, we performed a comprehensive analysis of the entire data set (>2300 proteins) using a weighted protein co-expression network analysis (WPCNA). This identified eight distinct co-expressed patterns of protein co-enrichment associated with increased expression in area CA2 tissue (compared to CA1). The novel data set we present here reveals a specific CA2 hippocampal proteome, laying the groundwork for future studies and a deeper understanding of area CA2 and the proteins mediating its unique physiology and signaling.

BackgroundThe hippocampus plays an important role in psychopathology and treatment outcome. While posterior hippocampus (PH) may be crucial for the learning process that exposure-based treatments require, affect-focused treatments might preferentially engage anterior hippocampus (AH). Previous studies have distinguished the different functions of these hippocampal sub-regions in memory, learning, and emotional processes, but not in treatment outcome. Examining two independent clinical trials, we hypothesized that anterior hippocampal volume would predict outcome of affect-focused treatment outcome [Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT); Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (PFPP)], whereas posterior hippocampal volume would predict exposure-based treatment outcome [Prolonged Exposure (PE); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Applied Relaxation Training (ART)].MethodsThirty-five patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and 24 with panic disorder (PD) underwent structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before randomization to affect-focused (IPT for PTSD; PFPP for PD) or exposure-based treatments (PE for PTSD; CBT or ART for PD). AH and PH volume were regressed with clinical outcome changes.ResultsBaseline whole hippocampal volume did not predict post-treatment clinical severity scores in any treatment. For affect-focused treatments, but not exposure-based treatments, anterior hippocampal volume predicted clinical improvement. Smaller AH correlated with greater affect-focused treatment improvement. Posterior hippocampal volume did not predict treatment outcome.ConclusionsThis is the first study to explore associations between hippocampal volume sub-regions and treatment outcome in PTSD and PD. Convergent results suggest that affect-focused treatment may influence the clinical outcome through the ‘limbic’ AH, whereas exposure-based treatments do not. These preliminary, theory-congruent, therapeutic findings require replication in a larger clinical trial.

Distorted images of American regulatory ideas and practices frame foreign responses to these practices as well as foreign views of the economic policies of the United States. U.S. power both embeds and contributes to these distorted images. This article highlights the evolution of these distortions and the ways in which business history has intertwined with legal and political history throughout the evolution. It focuses on a specific area of regulation—antitrust or competition law—in order to ground the more general discussion. The article provides insights into the relationship between cognitive distance and power and into its pernicious effects on transnational discussions and decisions involving competition law.
