Les huîtres élevées le plus souvent en zone côtière peuvent être contaminées par des virus entériques humains tels que les norovirus, et entraîner des gastro-entérites chez les consommateurs. Afin d'évaluer la prévalence à l'échelle européenne, une étude a été réalisée pendant deux ans sur les zones de production et les centres d'expédition. Pendant deux ans, des échantillons ont été collectés sur 74 zones de production françaises et 167 centres d'expédition français. Les échantillons ont été analysés selon la norme ISO 15216-1. Les résultats montrent que, dans les zones de production, les échantillons prélevés dans des zones classées A étaient moins fréquemment contaminés que ceux prélevés en zone classée B. Cette différence était encore plus marquée pour les échantillons prélevés en claire (prévalence très faible). L'analyse selon les régions de production n'a pas montré de différence géographique. Dans les centres d'expédition, la prévalence observée est plus faible (5,6 %) que dans les zones de production (11,5 %), mais semble essentiellement liée au classement de la zone d’origine des coquillages, avec une efficacité limitée de la purification. Comme attendu, la majorité des échantillons contaminés par les norovirus a été détectée pendant la période de novembre à mars, période pendant laquelle les plus fortes concentrations ont été observées. Ces données pourront être utiles pour optimiser la gestion du risque de contamination, ou encore pour prioriser les bassins versants dans le cadre des objectifs de reconquête de la qualité microbiologique des eaux littorales.

Low temperature quantum rotation of dihydrogen in RuH2(H2)2[P(C5H9)3)]2 switched to a facile hydride exchange above 150 K.

Neutron scattering measurements have been performed on deuterated powder samples of claringbullite and Zn-doped claringbullite (Zn$_x$Cu$_{4-x}$(OD)$_{6}$FCl). At low temperatures, claringbullite Cu$_4$(OD)$_{6}$FCl forms a distorted pyrochlore lattice with long-range magnetic order and spin-wave-like magnetic excitations. Partial Zn doping leads to the nominal ZnCu$_3$(OD)$_{6}$FCl compound, a geometrically frustrated spin-1/2 kagome antiferromagnet that shows no transition to magnetic order down to 1.5 K. Purpose To evaluate the clinical course and outcome of canine SCCEDs treated with a combination of cotton-tip debridement (CTD), scalpel blade debridement (SBD), and superficial grid keratotomy (SGK). Methods Medical records of dogs diagnosed with SCCED and treated by the same diplomate (FJO) from 2011 to 2019 were reviewed. Age, breed, sex, affected eye, time of onset before treatment, previous procedures performed, time to healing, need for a second treatment, and complications were reported. Results A total of 308 eyes (291 dogs) met the inclusion criteria and were included in the study. All dogs received the same treatment (CTD + SBD + SGK) and the same topical medication (tobramycin 0.3% solution and sodium chloride 5% ointment). All eyes healed. Mean age at presentation was 9 years and 6 months (114.4 ± SD 28.0 months), and Boxer was the most common breed (93/308; 30.2%). Mean corneal healing time was 11.5 days (±SD 6.6). Complications occurred in 15/308 (4.9%) eyes. The three main complications observed were infected epithelial ulcer, infected stromal ulcer, and melting corneal ulcer, and 7/15 (46.7%) of the complications were diagnosed in Boston Terrier. Healing occurred after one treatment in 299/308 (97.1%) eyes, and the remaining cases needed a second treatment. Conclusions CTD + SBD + SGK is an inexpensive and efficient treatment for SCCED in dogs. Boston Terrier may be at higher risk of developing complications following this procedure.

We present a systematic study on the effect of water on the microscopic dynamics of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate by means of quasielastic neutron scattering. By mixing the ionic liquid with either heavy or light water, the different contributions to the quasielastic broadening could be identified and treated separately. This study was performed at room temperature, which is more than 15 °C above the demixing line. Our results show that even small amounts of water accelerate the diffusion mechanisms considerably. While samples with small water percentage reveal a diffusion process confined within ionic liquid nanodomains, an admixture of more than 15 wt. % water relieves the confinement. Furthermore, the presence of two water species was identified: one behaving as free water, whereas the other was interpreted as a component bound to the ionic liquid motion. Based on the fact that water preferentially binds to the BF4 anion, which itself has a negligible contribution to the scattered intensity, our experiments reveal unprecedented information about the microscopic anion dynamics.

The thermal scattering laws (TSL) take into account the crystalline structure and atomic motions of isotopes bound in materials. This paper presents the CINEL code, which was developed to generate temperature-dependent TSL for solid, liquid and free gas materials of interest for nuclear reactors. CINEL is able to calculate TSL from the phonon density of states (PDOS) of materials under the Gaussian-Incoherent approximations. The PDOS can be obtained by using theoretical approaches (e.g., ab initio density functional theory and molecular dynamics) or experimental results. In this work, the PDOS presented in the ENDF/BVIII.0 and NJOY-NCrystal libraries were used for numerical validation purposes. The CINEL results are in good agreement with those reported in these databases, even in the specific cases of TSL with the newly mixed elastic format. The coding flexibility offered by Python using the JupyterLab interface allowed to investigate limits of physical models reported in the literature, such as a four-site model for UO2, anharmonic behaviors of oxygen atoms bound in a Fm3m structure, texture in Zry4 samples and jump corrections in a roto-translational diffusion model for liquid water. The use of graphic processing units (GPU) is a necessity to perform calculations in a few minutes. The performances of the CINEL code is illustrated with the results obtained on actinide oxides having a Fm3m structure (UO2, ThO2, NpO2 and PuO2), low enriched fuel (UMo), cladding (Zry4) and moderators (H2O with a specific emphasis on ice).

Using a combination of neutron scattering, calorimetry, quantum Monte Carlo simulations, and analytic results we uncover confinement effects in depleted, partially magnetized quantum spin ladders. We show that introducing nonmagnetic impurities into magnetized spin ladders leads to the emergence of a new characteristic length L in the otherwise scale-free Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (serving as the effective low energy model). This results in universal LT scaling of staggered susceptibilities. Comparison of simulation results with experimental phase diagrams of prototypical spin ladder compounds bis(2,3-dimethylpyridinium)tetrabromocuprate(II) (DIMPY) and bis(piperidinium)tetrabromocuprate(II) (BPCB) yields excellent agreement., Physical Review Letters, 128 (23), ISSN:0031-9007, ISSN:1079-7114

A 9-year-old castrated male pitbull dog was presented for evaluation of a subconjunctival swelling of 10 days duration. On ophthalmic examination, a subcutaneous mass was identified at the right lateral canthus. An excisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis confirmed a diagnosis of a subcutaneous fibroma. Eleven months after surgical excision, the dog had no evidence of recurrence. Fibroma should be included in the differential diagnosis of rapidly enlarging eyelid masses.

We investigate the temperature dependence of the spin dynamics in the pyrochlore magnet Nd_{2}Zr_{2}O_{7} by neutron scattering experiments. At low temperature, this material undergoes a transition towards an "all-in-all-out" antiferromagnetic phase and the spin dynamics encompass a dispersionless mode, characterized by a dynamical spin ice structure factor. Unexpectedly, this mode is found to survive above T_{N}≈300 mK. Concomitantly, elastic correlations of the spin ice type develop. These are the signatures of a peculiar correlated paramagnetic phase which can be considered as a new example of Coulomb phase. Our observations near T_{N} do not reproduce the signatures expected for a Higgs transition, but show reminiscent features of the "all-in-all-out" order superimposed on a Coulomb phase.

Observations of the vegetative and reproductive biomass produced annually and the mineral element contents have been conducted on diverse oil palm plant materials tested in a genetic test in Indonesia. The results show that the nutrient uptake (for trunk growth, leaf renewal and bunch export) greatly varies (CV = 10% for N uptake and 17% for K uptake) with the origins of the planting materials considered. For equivalent production, the uptake in nutrients of certain plant material may differ very significantly; for the same level of uptake in nutrients, production can vary significantly. This study supports the hypothesis that the optimal nutrient thresholds are intrinsically linked to the plant material. It assumes that some planting materials have different needs and that a fertilizer regime could be adapted to their specific needs without losses in performance. The spin-1/2 kagome antiferromagnet is an archetypal frustrated system predicted to host a variety of exotic magnetic states. We show using neutron scattering measurements that deuterated vesignieite BaCu_{3}V_{2}O_{8}(OD)_{2}, a fully stoichiometric S=1/2 kagome magnet with1% lattice distortion, orders magnetically at T_{N}=9 K into a multi-k coplanar variant of the predicted triple-k octahedral structure. We find that this structure is stabilized by a dominant antiferromagnetic third-neighbor exchange J_{3} with minor first- or second-neighbor exchanges. The spin-wave spectrum is well described by a J_{3}-only model including a tiny symmetric exchange anisotropy.

The search for two-dimensional quantum spin liquids, exotic magnetic states remaining disordered down to zero temperature, has been a great challenge in frustrated magnetism over the last few decades. Recently, evidence for fractionalized excitations, called spinons, emerging from these states has been observed in kagome and triangular antiferromagnets. In contrast, quantum ferromagnetic spin liquids in two dimensions, namely quantum kagome ices, have been less investigated, yet their classical counterparts exhibit amazing properties, magnetic monopole crystals as well as magnetic fragmentation. We present new McStas components Virtual_mcnp_input and Virtual_tripoli4_input, Virtual_mcnp_output and Virtual_tripoli_ output to be used as interface for the MCNP and Tripoli neutron transport codes. Similarly, the new Lens component can be used to de- scribe any refracting material set-up, including lenses and prisms. A new library for McStas adds the ability to describe any geometrical arrangement as a set of polygons. This feature has been implemented in most sample scattering components such as Single_crystal, Incoherent, Isotropic_Sqw (liquids/amorphous/powder), PowderN as well as in Guide_anyshape component for reflecting or absorbing complex set-up. The PSD_Detector component models a neutron absorbing gas volume, taking into account for instance the penetration depth and the associated parallax effect, the charge cloud generated at the absorption location. This gas volume can be enclosed in a scattering material in order to model the absorption and scattering in the detector housing, prior to the actual detection. An extended model of the IN5b time-of-flight spectrometer at the Institut Laue Langevin is used to simulate vanadium and powder diffractograms, making use of the gas detector component.

Liposarcomas are rare malignant tumors of the adipose tissue which are well described in humans and animals. Wide margin excision is the recommended treatment for these infiltrative, slow to metastasize tumors. Primary liposarcoma with ocular localization is a very rare tumor in humans, dogs and cats. This report describes, for the first time, a palpebral liposarcoma in a 18-month old guinea pig that presented with a large palpebral mass and purulent discharge in the right eye. The ophthalmic evaluation revealed a one-centimeter infiltrating subcutaneous mass within the upper eyelid, a severe chemosis and hyperhemia of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva of the right eye. Cytologic examination of the mass revealed only epithelial cells. Histologic examination interpreted the lesion as a xanthogranulomatous reaction possibly secondary to meibomian gland rupture or inflammation. One month later, the mass had increased in size and the animal had stopped eating. Euthanasia was performed and a large biopsy was submitted for another histological examination. Histopathology revealed polygonal to rounded cells with a large, empty intracytoplasmic vacuole, and an ovoid, eccentrically located nucleus. The histology was consistent with a well-differentiated liposarcoma. Given the unusual location, immunohistochemistry was performed to ascertain the mesenchymal nature of the neoplasm.

We have attempted to induce the theoretically predicted anharmonic lattice modes called intrinsic localized modes in the NaI single crystal lattice by UV excitation of the impurity electronic states of Tl+ substitution centers. Comparison of low-temperature phonon density of states measured by inelastic neutron scattering with and without simultaneous UV illumination of the sample did not reveal significant difference. Results are discussed in the context of possible improvements of the proposed experiment.

The atomic dynamics of the Al0.550Si0.070Cu0.255Fe0.125 alloy with the structure that approximates the structure of an icosahedral quasicrystal with a similar chemical composition has been investigated using inelastic neutron scattering. The partial vibrational spectra of copper, iron, and aluminum atoms and the total spectrum of thermal vibrations of the compound have been directly reconstructed from the experimental data for the first time. A combined analysis of the results obtained and the data on the atomic dynamics of the i-AlCuFe icosahedral quasicrystal has been performed.

Objective To evaluate the visual outcome of three techniques of corneal transplantation surgery in treating severe inflammatory keratopathies in the horse. Design Retrospective medical records study. Animals studied Medical records of 206 horses that received corneal transplantation surgery at the University of Florida Veterinary Medical Center from 1993 to 2007 were reviewed. Procedure Data collected from the medical records included signalment, types of ocular lesions, type of transplant surgery performed, length of follow-up, complications, and visual outcomes. Results Full thickness penetrating keratoplasty (PK) was performed in 86 horses for melting ulcers, iris prolapse/descemetoceles, and medically nonresponsive full thickness stromal abscesses (SA). Posterior lamellar keratoplasty (PLK) and deep lamellar endothelial keratoplasty (DLEK) are split thickness penetrating keratoplasties that were utilized for medically nonresponsive deep stromal abscesses (DSA) in 54 and 66 eyes, respectively. The most common postoperative surgical complication was graft rejection and varying degrees of graft opacification. Wound dehiscence and aqueous humor leakage was also a common postoperative problem. A positive visual outcome was achieved for PK, PLK, and DLEK in 77.9%, 98.1%, and 89.4%, respectively. Conclusions Corneal transplantation is a tectonically viable surgery in the horse with an overall success rate of 88.5% in maintaining vision when treating vascularized and infected corneal disease in the horse.

Maintenance and repair of corneal stromal extracellular matrix (ECM) requires a tightly coordinated balance of ECM synthesis, degradation and remodeling in which proteolytic enzymes (proteinases) perform important functions. There are natural proteinase inhibitors present in preocular tear film (PTF) and cornea simultaneously with proteinases that prevent excessive degradation of normal healthy tissue. Disorders occur when there is an imbalance between proteinases and proteinase inhibitors in favor of the proteinases, causing pathologic degradation of stromal collagen and proteoglycans in the cornea. Two matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), MMP-2 and MMP-9, are of major importance in terms of remodeling and degradation of the corneal stromal collagen. Immunohistochemical studies have shown different origins of MMP-2 and -9. MMP-2 is synthesized by corneal keratocytes and performs a surveillance function in the normal cornea, becoming locally activated to degrade collagen molecules that occasionally become damaged. Alternatively, MMP-9 may be produced by epithelial cells and polymorphonuclear neutrophils following corneal wounding. Because the cornea is in close contact with the preocular tear film (PTF), proteinases have been evaluated in the PTF. In damaged corneas, total proteolytic activity in the tear fluid was found to be significantly increased compared to normal eyes and contralateral eyes. Studies analyzing the proteolytic activity in serial PTF samples during corneal healing led to the following conclusions: ulcerative keratitis in animals is associated with initially high levels of tear film proteolytic activity, which decrease as ulcers heal; proteinase levels in melting ulcers remain elevated leading to rapid progression of the ulcers. The success of medical and surgical treatment of the corneal ulcers is reflected by the proteolytic activity in tears. In animals, successful treatment leads to a rapid reduction in tear film proteolytic activity that corresponds with the improvement in the clinical signs of corneal ulceration. The in vitro effects of various compounds on proteolytic activity in the tear fluid of animals with ulcerative keratitis have been evaluated and their important inhibitory effects have been confirmed. Because these various compounds utilize different mechanisms to inhibit various families of proteinases, a combination of these proteinase inhibitors may be beneficial.

Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of postoperative beta-irradiation with strontium-90 as an adjunctive treatment to superficial keratectomy and permanent bulbar conjunctival graft for removal of equine corneolimbal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), in decreasing recurrence rate. Study The retrospective case study included 38 horses diagnosed and treated for SCC of the eye that involved the limbus and/or cornea. The patients were treated between 1990 and 2002, with strontium-90 irradiation immediately after corneal and conjunctival graft surgery. Recurrence was defined as the postoperative and postirradiation regrowth of SCC in the same site and globe that was previously treated. Results The Appaloosa was the most commonly represented breed and horses that had more than one base coat color represented the majority of the cases (53%). The coat colors of white, chestnut/sorrel and gray were the most commonly represented colors of the horses treated. Eight horses (21%) could not be assessed for tumor recurrence due to lack of two or more post-treatment examinations, and another horse was enucleated 6 days postoperatively due to progressive corneal ulceration. Twenty-four horses (63% of the entire study population; 83% of the followed cases) had a mean ± SD of 1754 ± 1319 days without tumor recurrence, ranging from 14 days to 5110 days. Five horses (13% of the entire study population; 17% of the assessed horses) had tumor recurrence at a mean ± SD of 449 ± 339 days with a range of 29 days to 900 days. For the five recurrences, treatment included local excision (n = 1), enucleation (n = 2), and additional strontium-90 therapy (n = 3). Conclusions The combination of superficial keratectomy, β-irradiation and permanent bulbar conjunctival grafts for limbal, corneal or corneolimbal SCC in horses is effective in at least 83% of the horses. Recurrence occurred in about 17% of the horses. Multiple biannual re-examinations are recommended to observe for tumor recurrence.

A hidden order that emerges in the frustrated pyrochlore Tb_{2+x}Ti_{2-x}O_{7+y} with T_{c}=0.53 K is studied using specific heat, magnetization, and neutron scattering experiments on a high-quality single crystal. Semiquantitative analyses based on a pseudospin-1/2 Hamiltonian for ionic non-Kramers magnetic doublets demonstrate that it is an ordered state of electric quadrupole moments. The elusive spin liquid state of the nominal Tb_{2}Ti_{2}O_{7} is most likely a U(1) quantum spin-liquid state.

A 9-week-old miniature mule foal presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for acute blindness, ataxia, and depression following an overdose of an over-the-counter ivermectin-based de-worming medication. Ophthalmic examination and electrodiagnostic evaluation eliminated outer retinal abnormalities as the primary cause of the bilateral blindness, implicating instead a central neurologic effect of the drug. With symptomatic and supportive care, the foal recovered fully and regained its vision.

Corneal ulcerations are very common in horses; most of them are uncomplicated noninfected ulcers that heal quickly without complications, but some can present various levels of corneal liquefaction or “melting.” Because melting corneal ulcers can progress rapidly and be sight threatening, the crucial steps of their diagnosis and clinical management are stressed in this paper. The treatment of melting corneal ulcers in horses should eradicate the infection, reduce or stop the corneal destruction, support the corneal integrity, control the uveal reaction and the pain associated with it, and minimize corneal scarring. Medical therapy including antiproteolytic drugs is discussed as well as adjunctive surgical options, including keratectomy, conjunctival grafts, and amniotic membrane and other biomaterial grafts. The prognosis depends on the stage and the severity of the corneal ulceration, the etiology of the condition, and the therapeutic choice.

The field induced magnetic phase transitions of Cs 2 CuBr 4 were investigated by means of magnetization process and neutron scattering experiments. Cs 2 CuBr 4 should be characterized as S = 1/2 two-dimensional triangular antiferromagnet. Below the ordering temperature T N = 1.4 K, the Spin structure is the helical incommensurate structure almost within the triangular lattice plane. In the field direction within the triangular lattice plane, Cs 2 CuBr 4 exhibits the magnetization plateaux at one-third and two-thirds of the saturation magnetization. The spin structure in the one-third plateau phase is found to be almost collinear up-up-down structure which should be stabilized by quantum fluctuation as predicted by the theoretical studies.
