Abstract Background Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) have been implicated as critical regulators of cancer tumorigenesis and progression. However, their functions and molecular mechanisms in colorectal cancer (CRC) still remain to be further elucidated. Methods LINC00460 was identified by differential analysis between human CRC and normal tissues and verified by in situ hybridization (ISH) and qRT-PCR. We investigated the biological functions of LINC00460 in CRC by in vitro and in vivo experiments. We predicted the mechanism and downstream functional molecules of LINC00460 by bioinformatics analysis, and confirmed them by dual luciferase reporter gene assay, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), RNA pull-down, etc. Results LINC00460 was found to be significantly overexpressed in CRC and associated with poor prognosis. Overexpression of LINC00460 promoted CRC cell immune escape and remodeled a suppressive tumor immune microenvironment, thereby promoting CRC proliferation and metastasis. Mechanistic studies showed that LINC00460 served as a molecular sponge for miR-186-3p, and then promoted the expressions of MYC, CD47 and PD-L1 to facilitate CRC cell immune escape. We also demonstrated that MYC upregulated LINC00460 expression at the transcriptional level and formed a positive feedback loop. Conclusions The LINC00460/miR-186-3p/MYC feedback loop promotes CRC cell immune escape and subsequently facilitates CRC proliferation and metastasis. Our findings provide novel insight into LINC00460 as a CRC immune regulator, and provide a potential therapeutic target for CRC patients.

Abstract Background Despite the adverse effects of ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) on type 2 diabetes and the beneficial role of physical activity (PA), the influence of PM2.5 on the relationship between PA and type 2 diabetes remains unclear. Methods In this prospective study with 71,689 participants, PA was assessed by a questionnaire and was categorized into quartiles for volume and three groups for intensity. Long‐term PM2.5 exposure was calculated using 1‐km resolution satellite‐based PM2.5 estimates. PM2.5 exposure and PA's effect on type 2 diabetes were assessed by cohort‐stratified Cox proportional hazards models, individually and in combination. Results In 488,166 person‐years of follow‐up, 5487 incident type 2 diabetes cases were observed. The association between PA and type 2 diabetes was modified by PM2.5. Compared with the lowest quartile of PA volume, the highest quartile was associated with reduced type 2 diabetes risk in low PM2.5 stratification (≤65.02 µg/m3) other than in high PM2.5 stratification (>65.02 µg/m3), with the hazard ratio (HR) of 0.75 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.66–0.85) and 1.10 (95% CI: 0.99–1.22), respectively. Similar results were observed for PA intensity. High PM2.5 exposure combined with the highest PA levels increased the risk of type 2 diabetes the most (HR = 1.79, 95% CI: 1.59–2.01 for PA volume; HR = 1.82, 95% CI: 1.64–2.02 for PA intensity). Conclusion PA could reduce type 2 diabetes risk in low‐pollution areas, but high PM2.5 exposure may weaken or even reverse the protective effects of PA. Safety and health benefits of PA should be thoroughly assessed for long‐term polluted residents.

Abstract Background Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic fibrotic interstitial lung disease characterized by progressive dyspnea and decreased lung function, yet its exact etiology remains unclear. It is of great significance to discover new drug targets for IPF. Methods We obtained the cis-expression quantitative trait locus (cis-eQTL) of druggable genes from eQTLGen Consortium as exposure and the genome wide association study (GWAS) of IPF from the International IPF Genetics Consortium as outcomes to simulate the effects of drugs on IPF by employing mendelian randomization analysis. Then colocalization analysis was performed to calculate the probability of both cis-eQTL of druggable genes and IPF sharing a causal variant. For further validation, we conducted protein quantitative trait locus (pQTL) analysis to reaffirm our findings. Results The expression of 45 druggable genes was significantly associated with IPF susceptibility at FDR

The addition of biochar and the use of membrane coverings are two methods used in aerobic composting of agricultural waste. The effectiveness of each of these two methods on compost quality and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions was tested in the laboratory. The results showed that both methods increased the maximum composting temperature and extended the thermophilic period. The germination index of biochar-treated compost and membrane-covered compost reached 70% on the 18th day, which was 12 days earlier than the corresponding value in the control group. The products from the biochar-treated compost had higher pH and lower electrical conductivity, compared with the product of the control group, indicating that these products are more suitable for acidic soils. In terms of greenhouse gas reduction, both methods were found to reduce the emissions of CH4 and N2O from composting. The addition of biochar had a better emission reduction effect on N2O, whereas the membrane covering technique yielded a better effect on CH4 emission reduction. The results of this study provide technical support for managed aerobic composting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Abstract Laparoscopic and robotic surgery is a challenge to the surgeon's hand–eye coordination ability, which requires constant practice. Traditional mentor training is gradually shifting to simulation training based on various models. Laparoscopic and robotic bilioenteric anastomosis is an important and difficult operation in hepatobiliary surgery. We constructed and optimized the reusable modular 3D-printed models of choledochal cyst. The aim of this study was to verify the ability of this optimized model to distinguish between surgeons with different levels of proficiency and the benefits of repeated practice. A total of 12 surgeons with different levels participated in the study. Operation completion time and OSATS score were recorded. The model was validated by Likert scale. Surgeons were shown the steps and contents before performing laparoscopic or robotic bilioenteric anastomosis using the model. Surgeons with different levels of experience showed different levels when performing laparoscopic bilioenteric anastomosis on this model. Repeated training can significantly shorten the time of laparoscopic bilioenteric anastomosis and improve the operation scores of surgeons with different levels of experience. At the same time, preliminary results have shown that the performance of surgeons on the domestic robotic platform was basically consistent with their laparoscopic skills. This model may distinguish surgeons with different levels of experience and may improve surgical skills through repeated practice. It is worth noting that in order to draw more reliable conclusions, more subjects should be collected and more experiments should be done in the future.

Abstract Background As the Omicron variant of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) emerges, the neurological manifestations correlated with this epidemic have garnered increasing attention. This study was primarily intended to compare seizures in febrile children with and without SARS-CoV-2 infection and to conduct short-term follow-up of the SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. Methods Retrospective analysis of patients admitted to the Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University for fever and seizures between October 1 and December 30, 2022. Based on the results of SARS-CoV-2 Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction(RT-PCR) at the time of admission, the patients were divided into a Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) positive group and a COVID-19 negative group. Aside from that, we followed up COVID-19-positive patients for 3 months after their discharge from the hospital. The follow-up included monitoring for post-discharge seizures. Results Compared with the COVID-19-negative group, the COVID-19-positive group had a higher proportion of seizure duration ≥ 15 min(18.7%VS5.1%;P = 0.001), seizure ≥ 2 time(54.4%VS41.0%; P = 0.024), status epilepticus(15.4%VS5.1%; P = 0.005), and Electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities(29.4%VS13.6%; P = 0.016). Among the 161 individuals under follow-up, 21 (13.0%)experienced a recurrence of seizures. Conclusions Although the incidence of seizure duration ≥ 15 min, number of seizures ≥ 2 time, and status epilepticus was higher in the COVID-19-positive group, the majority of patients had a favorable prognosis. Nonetheless, patients with COVID-19 who present with seizures and persistent impaired consciousness need to be alerted to serious neurological disorders such as acute necrotizing encephalopathy. Owing to the consideration that some patients may experience a recurrence of seizures within a short period of time, it is paramount to provide guardians with education about the emergency management of seizures and to follow up with patients over time.

Abstract Wind sensors have always played an irreplaceable role in environmental information monitoring and are expected to operate with lower power consumption to extend service lifetime. Here, we propose a breeze wake-up anemometer (B-WA) based on a rolling-bearing triboelectric nanogenerator (RB-TENG) with extremely low static power. The B-WA consists of two RB-TENGs, a self-waking-up module (SWM), a signal processing module (SPM), and a wireless transmission unit. The two RB-TENGs are employed for system activation and wind-speed sensing. Once the ambient wind-speed exceeds 2 m/s, the wake TENG (W-TENG) and the SWM can wake up the system within 0.96 s. At the same time, the SPM starts to calculate the signal frequency from the measured TENG (M-TENG) to monitor the wind speed with a sensitivity of 9.45 Hz/(m/s). After the wind stops, the SWM can switch off the B-WA within 0.52 s to decrease the system energy loss. In quiescent on-duty mode, the operating power of the B-WA is less than 30 nW, which can greatly extend the service lifetime of the B-WA. By integrating triboelectric devices and rolling bearings, this work has realized an ultralow quiescent power and self-waked-up wireless wind-speed monitoring system, which has foreseeable applications in remote weather monitoring, IoT nodes, and so on.

Abstract Heat stress threatens global wheat (Triticum aestivum) production, causing dramatic yield losses worldwide. Identifying heat tolerance genes and comprehending molecular mechanisms are essential. Here, we identify a heat tolerance gene, TaSG-D1 E286K , in Indian dwarf wheat (Triticum sphaerococcum), which encodes an STKc_GSK3 kinase. TaSG-D1 E286K improves heat tolerance compared to TaSG-D1 by enhancing phosphorylation and stability of downstream target TaPIF4 under heat stress condition. Additionally, we reveal evolutionary footprints of TaPIF4 during wheat selective breeding in China, that is, InDels predominantly occur in the TaPIF4 promoter of Chinese modern wheat cultivars and result in decreased expression level of TaPIF4 in response to heat stress. These sequence variations with negative effect on heat tolerance are mainly introduced from European germplasm. Our study provides insight into heat stress response mechanisms and proposes a potential strategy to improve wheat heat tolerance in future.

Transport in water is the most common method for transporting live fish in China, however, transport is a strong stressor. Transport stress could lead to a reduced immune and antioxidant system function of tiger grouper, resulting in sickness and death. Besides, tiger grouper were continuously stressed during transport, which resulted in quality deterioration. It is necessary that find a way to relieve the stress of transportation of tiger grouper. Ascorbic acid is not only a good anti-stress agent, but it is also an effective immunostimulant. β-1,3-glucan is a feed additive that can enhance the immune response of fish. Therefore, this study evaluated the effects of β-1,3-glucan and ascorbic acid on the nutritional-immune response and antioxidant signaling pathways of live tiger grouper during simulated transport. Results indicated that adding β-1,3-glucan and ascorbic acid in transport-water muted the increase of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity. In addition, β-1,3-glucan and ascorbic acid activated Nrf2 and mediated TOR expression and then up-regulate related mRNA expression of antioxidant and immune enzymes. We concluded that the application of β-1,3-glucan and ascorbic acid inhibit the increase of metabolism enzymes and inflammatory factors and activate immune and antioxidant signaling pathways to relieve oxidant stress, immune response, and apoptosis. Reducing the loss of amino acids provided nutrients to relieve oxidative stress and immune response, which demonstrated immune-nutritional response in live tiger grouper during simulated transport. These results may provide a new solution for alleviating the decline of immune and antioxidant function of tiger grouper caused by transportation stress.

BackgroundThe ryanodine receptor 3 (RYR3) is involved in skeletal muscle contraction by releasing calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and subsequent T-tubule depolarization. It is also expressed in the brain, and variants in the RYR3 gene can lead to congenital myopathy type 20 (MIM: #620310).MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical characteristics and prognosis of a case of West syndrome, developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) caused by a missense variant in the RYR3 gene. We also reviewed and summarized the literature on epilepsy cases caused by RYR3 gene variants.ResultsA 10-month-old female child with delayed psychomotor development and recurrent spasm-like seizures was diagnosed with infantile spasm syndrome and DEE. Treatment with various antiepileptic drugs resulted in initial improvement but ultimately failed to control the seizures. Whole-exome sequencing revealed a novel heterozygous variant c.10943C > T/p.T3648M in the RYR3 gene, and genome-wide sequencing ruled out other potentially pathogenic variants. Three previous reports have described RYR3 variants causing DEE, two of which were attributed to de novo heterozygous variants, and one was a compound heterozygote.ConclusionThe present case of DEE caused by a RYR3 heterozygous variant is consistent with previous rare cases of epilepsy caused by RYR3 gene variants in terms of pathogenesis and clinical features, but significantly different from congenital myopathy type 20. Our findings provide important evidence for the diagnosis of RYR3-related DEE, and we hypothesize that RYR3 gain-of-function variants resulting in “leaky” Ca2+ release channels may be a molecular genetic feature leading to DEE rather than myopathy.

Abstract It is an increasingly mature application solution that triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) supplies power to electronic devices through its power management system (PMS). However, the previous PMS is able to manage a limited voltage magnitude and the energy storage elements are limited to capacitors. This work proposes an ultrahigh voltage PMS (UV‐PMS) to realize the charging of commercial lithium cells (LCs) by TENG. The design of UV‐PMS enables energy management of TENGs with ultrahigh open‐circuit voltages up to 3500 V and boosts the peak charging current from 30.9 µA to 2.77 mA, an increase of 89.64 times. With the introduction of UV‐PMS, the effective charging capacity of LC charged by a TENG at a working frequency of 1.5 Hz for 1 h comes to 429.7 µAh, making a 75.3 times enhancement compared to charging by TENG directly. The maximum charging power comes to 1.56 mW. The energy storage efficiency is above 97% and the overall charge efficiency can be maintained at 81.2%. This work provides a reliable strategy for TENG to store energy in LC, and has promising applications in energy storage, LC's life, and self‐powered systems.

ABSTRACT: Goose circovirus (GoCV), a potential immunosuppressive virus possessing a circular single-stranded DNA genome, is widely distributed in both domesticated and wild geese. This virus infection causes significant economic losses in the waterfowl industry. The codon usage patterns of viruses reflect the evolutionary history and genetic architecture, allowing them to adapt quickly to changes in the external environment, particularly to their hosts. In this study, we retrieved the coding sequences (Rep and Cap) and the genome of GoCV from GenBank, conducting comprehensive research to explore the codon usage patterns in 144 GoCV strains. The overall codon usage of the GoCV strains was relatively similar and exhibited a slight bias. The effective number of codons (ENC) indicated a low overall extent of codon usage bias (CUB) in GoCV. Combined with the base composition and relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU) analysis, the results revealed a bias toward A- and G-ending codons in the overall codon usage. Analysis of the ENC-GC3s plot and neutrality plot suggested that natural selection plays an important role in shaping the codon usage pattern of GoCV, with mutation pressure having a minor influence. Furthermore, the correlations between ENC and relative indices, as well as correspondence analysis (COA), showed that hydrophobicity and geographical distribution also contribute to codon usage variation in GoCV, suggesting the possible involvement of natural selection. In conclusion, GoCV exhibits comparatively slight CUB, with natural selection being the major factor shaping the codon usage pattern of GoCV. Our research contributes to a deeper understanding of GoCV evolution and its host adaptation, providing valuable insights for future basic studies and vaccine design related to GoCV.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with lysophospholipids-butyrate (LPB) in a high plant protein diet on the growth performance, liver health, and intestinal morphology of Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides). Three experimental diets were formulated: a positive control diet (PC) containing 15.00 % soybean meal (SBM) and 13 % chicken meal；a high-plant-protein diet (HPP) with 28.00 % SBM; a diet (LPB) supplemented LPB at 0.1 % in HPP. Largemouth bass with an average initial body weight of 9.3 g were fed for 60 days, with 4 replicates per group and 20 fish per replicate. The results demonstrated that the HPP group exhibited significantly lower final body weight (FBW), weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) compared to the PC group. Moreover, the HPP diet induced a notable increase in liver collagen fiber and liver lipid content, which was alleviated by LPB supplementation. In comparison to the HPP group, the LPB group showed significant increases in serum albumin and albumin/globulin, along with a significant decrease in alanine aminotransferase activity (P < 0.05). Compared with the PC group, the mRNA levels of acetyl-CoA carboxylase-1 (ACC-1), diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT), carnitine palmitoyl transferase-1 (CPT-1) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in HPP group were increased significantly (P < 0.05), while adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL), hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) as well as apoptotic gene B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) were significantly down-regulated. The mRNA levels of fatty acid synthase (FAS), ACC-1, peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-α (PPAR-α), ATGL, interleukin-1β (IL-1β), transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and Bcl-2 were up-regulated (P < 0.05), while DGAT and TNF-α were down-regulated in the LPB supplemented groups than that in the HPP group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the supplementation of 0.1 % LPB can alleviate liver lipid accumulation and fibrosis caused by high level of soybean meal.

Abstract 4‐Coumarate‐CoA ligase (4CL) gene plays vital roles in plant growth and development, especially the regulation of lignin metabolism and flavonoid synthesis. To investigate the potential function of 4CL in the lignin biosynthesis of Ginkgo biloba, this study identified two 4CL genes, Gb4CL1 and Gb4CL2, from G. biloba genome. Based on the phylogenetic tree analysis, Gb4CL1 and Gb4CL2 protein were classified into Class I, which has been confirmed to be involved in lignin biosynthesis. Therefore, it can be inferred that these two genes may also participate in lignin metabolism. The tissue‐specific expression patterns of these two genes revealed that Gb4CL1 was highly expressed in microstrobilus, whereas Gb4CL2 was abundant in immature leaves. The onion transient expression assay indicated that Gb4CL1 was predominantly localized in the nucleus, indicating its potential involvement in nuclear functions, while Gb4CL2 was observed in the cell wall, suggesting its role in cell wall‐related processes. Phytohormone response analysis revealed that the expression of both genes was upregulated in response to indole acetic acid, while methyl jasmonate suppressed it, gibberellin exhibited opposite effects on these genes. Furthermore, Gb4CL1 and Gb4CL2 expressed in all tissues containing lignin that showed a positive correlation with lignin content. Thus, these findings suggest that Gb4CL1 and Gb4CL2 are likely involved in lignin biosynthesis. Gb4CL1 and Gb4CL2 target proteins were successfully induced in Escherichia coli BL21 with molecular weights of 85.5 and 89.2 kDa, proving the integrity of target proteins. Our findings provided a basis for revealing that Gb4CL participated in lignin synthesis in G. biloba.

Abstract Understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics of fish species is a central concern in fish ecology and crucial for guiding management and conservation efforts. We constructed a joint species distribution model (JSDM) to simultaneously estimate the spatiotemporal distributions and densities for 21 reef fish species in the southeastern United States (SEUS). The model separately estimates encounter probability and positive density, and accounts for unobserved spatial and spatiotemporal variation using latent factors, where the correlations among species are induced. We applied the model to video data collected from a large‐scale, fishery independent survey. A clustering method was applied to the results of the JSDM to group species based on spatial and spatiotemporal synchrony in encounter probability and positive density. We found strong spatial associations among most of the reef fish species. However, species did exhibit differences in occupied habitat that varied with latitude and/or depth. Within their area of occupied habitat, almost all the species share similar spatial pattern of average density. However, for some species, annual distributions were less correlated with their expected average distributions perhaps due to differing responses to underlying spatiotemporal drivers. Some species show significant declines in abundance, for example, black sea bass, red porgy, and blueline tilefish, while a small number of species showed evidence of shifts in distribution, for example, black sea bass. The findings suggest that spatiotemporal management strategies may be of limited utility for reducing bycatch in these highly mixed reef fisheries due to high spatial correlations in occupied habitat and spatial patterns in density. Species‐specific responses to environmental change may also influence the spatiotemporal structure of reef assemblages. This work suggests management attention is needed for some of the lesser known species as they are showing declining trends in abundance.

BackgroundThe relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and osteoporosis (OP) has been widely recognized in recent years, but the mechanism of interaction remains unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the genetic features and signaling pathways that are shared between T2DM and OP.MethodsWe analyzed the GSE76894 and GSE76895 datasets for T2DM and GSE56815 and GSE7429 for OP from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify shared genes in T2DM and OP, and we constructed coexpression networks based on weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA). Shared genes were then further analyzed for functional pathway enrichment. We selected the best common biomarkers using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm and validated the common biomarkers, followed by RT-PCR, immunofluorescence, Western blotting, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to validate the expression of these hub genes in T2DM and OP mouse models and patients.ResultsWe found 8,506 and 2,030 DEGs in T2DM and OP, respectively. Four modules were identified as significant for T2DM and OP using WGCNA. A total of 19 genes overlapped with the strongest positive and negative modules of T2DM and OP. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis showed these genes may be involved in pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis and the glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis-chondroitin sulfate/dermatan sulfate and renin-angiotensin system signaling pathway. The LASSO algorithm calculates the six optimal common biomarkers. RT-PCR results show that LTB, TPBG, and VNN1 were upregulated in T2DM and OP. Immunofluorescence and Western blot show that VNN1 is upregulated in the pancreas and bones of T2DM model mice and osteoporosis model mice. Similarly, the level of VNN1 in the sera of patients with T2DM, OP, and T2DM and OP was higher than that in the healthy group.ConclusionBased on the WGCNA and LASSO algorithms, we identified genes and pathways that were shared between T2DM and OP. Both pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis and the glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis-chondroitin sulfate/dermatan sulfate and renin–angiotensin systems may be associated with the pathogenesis of T2DM and OP. Moreover, VNN1 may be a potential diagnostic marker for patients with T2DM complicated by OP. This study provides a new perspective for the systematic study of possible mechanisms of combined OP and T2DM.

Recent years, edge-cloud computing has attracted more and more attention due to benefits from the combination of edge and cloud computing. Task scheduling is still one of the major challenges for improving service quality and resource efficiency of edge-clouds. Though several researches have studied on the scheduling problem, there remains issues needed to be addressed for their applications, e.g., ignoring resource heterogeneity, focusing on only one kind of requests. Therefore, in this paper, we aim at providing a heterogeneity aware task scheduling algorithm to improve task completion rate and resource utilization for edge-clouds with deadline constraints. Due to NP-hardness of the scheduling problem, we exploit genetic algorithm (GA), one of the most representative and widely used meta-heuristic algorithms, to solve the problem considering task completion rate and resource utilization as major and minor optimization objectives, respectively. In our GA-based scheduling algorithm, a gene indicates which resource that its corresponding task is processed by. To improve the performance of GA, we propose to exploit a skew mutation operator where genes are associated to resource heterogeneity during the population evolution. We conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of our algorithm, and results verify the performance superiority of our algorithm in task completion rate, compared with other thirteen classical and up-to-date scheduling algorithms.

BackgroundLiver transplantation (LT) is one of the main curative treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Milan criteria has long been applied to candidate LT patients with HCC. However, the application of Milan criteria failed to precisely predict patients at risk of recurrence. As a result, we aimed to establish and validate a deep learning model comparing with Milan criteria and better guide post-LT treatment.MethodsA total of 356 HCC patients who received LT with complete follow-up data were evaluated. The entire cohort was randomly divided into training set (n = 286) and validation set (n = 70). Multi-layer-perceptron model provided by pycox library was first used to construct the recurrence prediction model. Then tabular neural network (TabNet) that combines elements of deep learning and tabular data processing techniques was utilized to compare with Milan criteria and verify the performance of the model we proposed.ResultsPatients with larger tumor size over 7 cm, poorer differentiation of tumor grade and multiple tumor numbers were first classified as high risk of recurrence. We trained a classification model with TabNet and our proposed model performed better than the Milan criteria in terms of accuracy (0.95 vs. 0.86, p < 0.05). In addition, our model showed better performance results with improved AUC, NRI and hazard ratio, proving the robustness of the model.ConclusionA prognostic model had been proposed based on the use of TabNet on various parameters from HCC patients. The model performed well in post-LT recurrence prediction and the identification of high-risk subgroups.

Abstract This paper investigates Regional Integrated Energy Systems (RIES), emphasizing the connection of diverse energy supply subsystems to address varied user needs and enhance operational efficiency. A novel low-carbon economic dispatch method, utilizing the multi-objective chaotic artificial hummingbird algorithm, is introduced. The method not only optimizes economic and environmental benefits but also aligns with "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" objectives. The study begins by presenting a comprehensive low-carbon economic dispatch model, followed by the proposal of the multi-objective chaotic artificial hummingbird algorithm, crucial for deriving the Pareto frontier of the low-carbon economic dispatch model. Additionally, we introduce a TOPSIS approach based on combined subjective and objective weights, this approach harnesses the objective data from the Pareto solution set deftly, curbs the subjective biases of dispatchers effectively and facilitates the selection of an optimal system operation plan from the Pareto frontier. Finally, the simulation results highlight the outstanding performance of our method in terms of optimization outcomes, convergence efficiency, and solution diversity. Noteworthy among these results is an 8.8% decrease in system operational economic costs and a 14.2% reduction in carbon emissions.

Abstract Stretchable electronics that prevalently adopt chemically inert metals as sensing layers and interconnect wires have enabled high-fidelity signal acquisition for on-skin applications. However, the weak interfacial interaction between inert metals and elastomers limit the tolerance of the device to external friction interferences. Here, we report an interfacial diffusion-induced cohesion strategy that utilizes hydrophilic polyurethane to wet gold (Au) grains and render them wrapped by strong hydrogen bonding, resulting in a high interfacial binding strength of 1017.6 N/m. By further constructing a nanoscale rough configuration of the polyurethane (RPU), the binding strength of Au-RPU device increases to 1243.4 N/m, which is 100 and 4 times higher than that of conventional polydimethylsiloxane and styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene-based devices, respectively. The stretchable Au-RPU device can remain good electrical conductivity after 1022 frictions at 130 kPa pressure, and reliably record high-fidelity electrophysiological signals. Furthermore, an anti-friction pressure sensor array is constructed based on Au-RPU interconnect wires, demonstrating a superior mechanical durability for concentrated large pressure acquisition. This chemical modification-free approach of interfacial strengthening for chemically inert metal-based stretchable electronics is promising for three-dimensional integration and on-chip interconnection.

Abstract Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) are common chronic diseases arising from progressive damage to the nervous system. Here, in-house natural product database screening revealed that libertellenone C (LC) obtained from the fermentation products of Arthrinium arundinis separated from the gut of a centipede collected in our Tongji campus, showed a remarkable neuroprotective effect. Further investigation was conducted to clarify the specific mechanism. LC dose-dependently reversed glutamate-induced decreased viability, accumulated reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial membrane potential loss, and apoptosis in SH-SY5Y cells. Network pharmacology analysis predicted that the targets of LC were most likely directly related to oxidative stress and the regulation of inflammatory factor-associated signaling pathways. Further study demonstrated that LC attenuated nitrite, TNF-α, and IL-1β production and decreased inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase expression in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV-2 cells. LC could directly inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome activation by decreasing the expression levels of NLRP3, ASC, cleaved Caspase-1, and NF-κB p65. Our results provide a new understanding of how LC inhibits the NLRP3 inflammasome in microglia, providing neuroprotection. These findings might guide the development of effective LC-based therapeutic strategies for NDs.

PURPOSE: Through three neurocritical care unit (NCCU) surveys in China, we tried to understand the development status of neurocritical care and clarify its future development. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional survey method and self-report questionnaires, the number and quality of NCCUs were investigated through three steps: administering the questionnaire, sorting the survey data, and analyzing the survey data. RESULTS: At the second and third surveys, the number of NCCUs (76/112/206) increased by 47% and 84%, respectively. The NCCUs were located in tertiary grade A hospitals or teaching hospitals (65/100/181) in most provinces (24/28/29). The numbers of full-time doctors (359/668/1337) and full-time nurses (904/1623/207) in the NCCUs increased, but the doctor–bed ratio and nurse–bed ratio were still insufficient (0.4:1 and 1.3:1). CONCLUSION: In the past 20 years, the growth rate of NCCUs in China has accelerated, while the allocation of medical staff has been insufficient. Although most NCCU hospital bed facilities and instruments and equipment tend to be adequate, there are obvious defects in some aspects of NCCUs.

Abstract The interlayer can effectively prevent the ridge of bottom water and has a non-negligible influence on the flow dynamics of oil and gas in the reservoir. In view of the above problems, this paper studies the influence of a bottom water reservoir with an interlayer on the critical productivity of horizontal wells and establishes a coupling model of seepage and wellbore flow in a bottom water reservoir with an interlayer. The critical productivity of horizontal wells in a bottom water reservoir with an interlayer can be evaluated more accurately. Firstly, the three-dimensional seepage field is approximately decomposed into internal and external seepage fields, and the critical productivity formulas of internal and external seepage fields are solved, respectively. Using the equivalent seepage resistance, the critical productivity formula of horizontal wells in interlayer bottom water reservoirs is obtained. The results are compared with the calculation results of the traditional productivity formula and the simulation results of the commercial software ECLIPSE. Second, based on the mass conservation principle and momentum conservation principle, the wellbore-reservoir coupling mathematical model of a horizontal well is established by the discrete method. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of the selected parameters is discussed in detail. The results show that: (1) compared with the traditional productivity algorithm, the algorithm considers the influence of interlayers on productivity and gives a detailed theory, a specific calculation process, and the importance of accurate prediction of wellbore flow. (2) The model is calculated by an example, and the calculation results are compared with the traditional formula and the commercial simulator ECLIPSE. The results show that the horizontal well productivity formula considering the influence of interlayer is closer to the simulation results of commercial software ECLIPSE, and the relative error is 8.56%. (3) The established coupling model considers the influence of interlayer radius length and horizontal well length. The general trend is that productivity gradually increases with an increase in interlayer radius length or horizontal well length, but the growth rate gradually decreases.

Abstract Purpose Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep-breathing disorder. Numerous investigations have found a strong inherent relationship between OSA and hypothyroidism. Studies suggest that lymphocytes may be involved in the development of hypothyroidism in patients with OSA. This study aimed to assess the association between lymphocytes and hypothyroidism in OSA patients. Patients and methods This study involved 920 patients with OSA who underwent nocturnal sleep monitoring, thyroid function testing, and routine blood tests. In patients with OSA, logistic regression analysis indicated independent predictors of hypothyroidism. The cutoff level of lymphocyte count was determined using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis to predict the occurrence of hypothyroidism in individuals with OSA. Results This study comprised 920 OSA patients (617 males and 303 women), 879 with normal thyroid function, and 41 with hypothyroidism, with a hypothyroidism incidence of 4.46%. In the entire OSA population and male OSA patients, the number of lymphocytes was significantly higher in the hypothyroid group than in the control group (p = 0.002 and 0.020, respectively). In addition, among the OSA population younger than 60 years old and patients with mild to moderate OSA, lymphocytes were found to be considerably more in the hypothyroid group than in the euthyroid group. Lymphocyte count, ESS, and sex were all independent predictors of hypothyroidism development in OSA patients. According to ROC curve analysis, the risk of hypothyroidism increases with increasing lymphocyte count in the total patient population, with an optimal diagnostic cutoff point of 2.5 (× 10*9/L). Conclusions The prevalence of hypothyroidism in patients with OSA increases as the number of lymphocytes increases. Lymphocyte count can be used as an independent predictor of the occurrence of hypothyroidism, and it has a diagnostic value for OSA combined with hypothyroidism.

With the rapid development of deep learning, convolutional neural networks have achieved milestones in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image object detection. However, object detection in SAR images is still a great challenge due to the difficulty in distinguishing targets from complex backgrounds. At the same time, most of the targets in SAR images are small and unevenly distributed, which makes it challenging to extract sufficient feature information. To solve these issues mentioned above, an efficient object detection network for SAR images based on Swin transformer and YOLOv7 is proposed in this article. First, we design a novel feature aggregation module Petty-specialized feature aggregation (PS-FPN) to enrich small targets’ semantic and spatial features while keeping the model lightweight. PS-FPN module uses the fusion of deep and shallow features by using cross-layer feature aggregation and single-branch feature aggregation to enhance the detection of small targets. Second, a novel attention mechanism strategy mix-attention is proposed to find more attention regions. Finally, we add one more prediction head to extract shallow features that effectively preserve small targets’ feature information. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, extensive experiments are carried out on several challenging SAR image datasets. The results show that, compared with other state-of-the-art detectors, the proposed method can achieve significant performance based on lightweight detection.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of linezolid-containing regimens for treatment of M. abscessus pulmonary disease. Methods The records of 336 patients with M. abscessus pulmonary disease who were admitted to Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital from January 2018 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 164 patients received a linezolid-containing regimen and 172 controls did not. The effectiveness, safety, antibiotic susceptibility profiles, outcomes, culture conversion, cavity closure, and adverse reactions were compared in these two groups. Abstract Background Population‐based epidemiological evidence regarding the association between fruit and vegetable intake and the incidence of hypertension is inconsistent. This prospective cohort study aimed to investigate the association between fruit and vegetable intake and the risk of new‐onset hypertension. Methods Based on the project of Prediction for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk in China (China‐PAR), 58,981 Chinese adults without hypertension at baseline were included. Information on fruit and vegetable intake was collected using a food‐frequency questionnaire. Cox proportional hazards models were performed to estimate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of incident hypertension. Results During 640,795 person‐years of follow‐up, 21,008 new cases of hypertension were recorded. Objectives: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a decline in vaccine coverage, and the implementation of combined vaccines and co-administration strategies emerged as potential solutions to alleviate this predicament. Our objective is to delve into the concurrent administration of the sabin-strain-based inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV), the diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis vaccine (DTaP), and measles-mumps-rubella vaccine (MMR), with the intention of bridging the evidentiary gap pertaining to vaccine co-administration in Chinese infants, and to ensure a safe and effective vaccination strategy, ultimately leading to an augmentation in immunization coverage. Methods: This study was a follow-up trial of the “Immunogenicity and safety of concomitant administration of the sIPV with the DTaP vaccine in children: a multicenter, randomized, non-inferiority, controlled trial.” Blood samples were collected on day 0 and day 30, and serum antibody levels were detected to measure antibody responses to each of the antigens. Local and systemic adverse events were monitored and compared among groups. This study is the first to fill the knowledge gap in China regarding the safe and effective combined vaccination of sIPV, DTaP, and MMR vaccines. Results: The geometric mean titer of the poliovirus types I, II, and III neutralizing antibodies were 1060.22 (95% CI: 865.73-1298.39), 1537.06 (95% CI: 1324.27-1784.05), and 1539.10 (95% CI: 1296.37-1827.29) in group I on day 30; geometric mean titer of antibodies against DTaP and MMR in the simultaneous vaccination group was non-inferior to those in the DTaP alone and MMR alone group. Reporting rates of local and systemic adverse reactions were similar between groups and no serious adverse events were reported throughout the clinical study period. Conclusion: Co-administration of the sIPV, DTaP, and MMR was safe and did not impact immunogenicity, which would help to mitigate administrative costs and enhance vaccine coverage rates.

BackgroundCardio-Facio-Cutaneous syndrome (CFCS) is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder primarily caused by BRAF gene mutations, posing diagnostic challenges due to its multifaceted clinical presentation.ObjectiveTo elucidate the clinical characteristics of pediatric CFCS patients, expanding the phenotypic spectrum to enhance early diagnostic capabilities, while also presenting the relationship between genotye and corresponding phenotype severity.MethodsFrom January 2015 to March 2022, four children diagnosed with CFCS in Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were included for analysis. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was conducted to identify the types and locations of possible gene mutations. Neurological development was assessed using electroencephalography (EEG), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Gesell developmental evaluation.ResultsAll four CFCS patients exhibited de novo BRAF gene mutations, manifesting with cardiac malformations, distinctive facial features, skin and hair changes, and neurological abnormalities. WES revealed that the specific BRAF mutations were closely linked to their clinical severity. Three patients displayed milder symptoms (case 1–3, genotype I or II), demonstrating stability or slight improvement, whereas one patient (case 4, genotype III) suffered from a severe phenotype characterized by profound neurological and digestive system impairments, leading to a significantly reduced quality of life and a grim prognosis.ConclusionIn CFCS patients, severe developmental delay and seizures are predominant neurological features, possibly accompanied by continuous spike-and-wave during sleep (CSWS) and severe sleep disturbances. CFCS generally carries a poor prognosis, underscoring the importance of disease awareness and early genetic testing.

BackgroundEngaging in anal sexual intercourse markedly increases the risk of developing HIV among men who have sex with men (MSM); oral sexual activities tend to uniquely introduce gut-derived microbes to salivary microbiota, which, combined with an individual’s positive HIV status, may greatly perturb oral microecology. However, till date, only a few published studies have addressed this aspect.MethodsBased on 16S rRNA sequencing data of bacterial taxa, MicroPITA picks representative samples for metagenomic analysis, effectively revealing how the development and progression of the HIV disease influences oral microbiota in MSM. Therefore, we collected samples from 11 HIV-negative and 44 HIV-positive MSM subjects (stage 0 was defined by HIV RNA positivity, but negative or indeterminate antibody status; stages 1, 2, and 3 were defined by CD4+ T lymphocyte counts ≥ 500, 200–499, and ≤ 200 or opportunistic infection) and selected 25 representative saliva samples (5 cases/stage) using MicroPITA. Metagenomic sequencing analysis were performed to explore whether positive HIV status changes salivary bacterial KEGG function and metabolic pathway in MSM.ResultsThe core functions of oral microbiota were maintained across each of the five groups, including metabolism, genetic and environmental information processing. All HIV-positive groups displayed KEGG functions of abnormal proliferation, most prominently at stage 0, and others related to metabolism. Clustering relationship analysis tentatively identified functional relationships between groups, with bacterial function being more similar between stage 0-control groups and stage 1-2 groups, whereas the stage 3 group exhibited large functional changes. Although we identified most metabolic pathways as being common to all five groups, several unique pathways formed clusters for certain groups; the stage 0 group had several, while the stage 2 and 3 groups had few, such clusters. The abundance of K03046 was positively correlated with CD4 counts.ConclusionAs HIV progresses, salivary bacterial function and metabolic pathways in MSM progressively changes, which may be related to HIV promoting abnormal energy metabolism and exacerbate pathogen virulence. Further, infection and drug resistance of acute stage and immune cell destruction of AIDS stage were abnormally increased, predicting an increased risk for MSM individuals to develop systemic and oral diseases.

LINC00115 has been documented to regulate many different cancers; however, its function in thyroid cancer (THCA) remains unexplored. Therefore, we examined the effects of LINC00115 on THCA and the associated molecular mechanisms. In THCA cell lines and tumor samples, the expression levels of LINC00115, miR-489-3p, and EVA1A were analyzed by qRT-PCR along with respective controls. Cell viability, migration, and apoptosis were analyzed by employing CCK-8, transwell, and western blotting assays, respectively. Xenograft experiments were done to assess in vivo tumor growth. The interaction among LINC00115, miR-489-3p, and EVA1A was tested using RNA-binding protein immunoprecipitation and luciferase assays. Key proteins of the Hippo signaling pathway were ascertained by western blotting. The outcomes elucidated that LINC00115 was overexpressed in THCA cell lines and tumor tissues. LIN00115 knockdown reduced in vitro proliferation and migration but facilitated apoptosis in THCA cells and inhibited in vivo tumor growth. The target of LINC00115 was miR-489-3p, which binds to EVA1A in THCA. Functional assays revealed that miR-489-3p inhibition boosted THCA cell proliferation and migration, but hindered apoptosis. However, EVA1A knockdown resulted in the opposite effects via the Hippo signaling pathway. Additionally, miR-489-3p inhibition partially negated the effects of LINC00115 knockdown in THCA cells, and EVA1A knockdown remarkably impeded the effects of miR-489-3p inhibition in THCA cells. Thus, LINC00115 knockdown suppressed THCA carcinogenesis via targeting miR-489-3p, which regulates EVA1A expression and affects the Hippo signaling pathway.

Abstract Tribovoltaic effect is a phenomenon of the generation of direct voltage and current by the mechanical friction on semiconductor interface, which exhibits a brand‐new energy conversion mechanism by the coupling of semiconductor and triboelectrification. Here, the origin, interfaces, characteristics, mechanism, coupling effect and application of the tribovoltaic effect is summarized and reviewed. The tribovoltaic effect is first proposed in 2019, which has developed in various forms tribovoltaic nanogenerator (TVNG) including metal‐semiconductor, metal‐insulator‐semiconductor, semiconductor‐semiconductor, liquid‐solid and flexible interfaces. Compared with triboelectric nanogenerator, the TVNG has the characteristics of direct‐current, high current density (mA‐A cm−2) and low impedance (Ω‐kΩ). The two mainstream views on the tribovoltaic generation mechanism, one dominated by built‐in electric fields and the other dominated by interface electric fields, have been elaborated and summarized in detail. The tribo‐photovoltaic effect and tribo‐thermoelectric effect are also discovered and introduced because they can easily interact with other multi‐physical field effects. The TVNGs are suitable for making energy harvesting and self‐powered sensing devices for micro‐nano energy applications. This paper not only revisit the development of the tribovoltaic effect, but also makes prospects for mechanism research, device fabrication and integrated application, which can accelerate the evolution of smart wearable electronics and intelligent industrial components.

The relationship of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure and insulin resistance remains inclusive. Our study aimed to investigate this association in the project of Prediction for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk in China (China-PAR). Specifically, we examined the associations between long-term PM2.5 exposure and three surrogate indicators of insulin resistance: the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG), TyG with waist circumference (TyG-WC) and metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR). Additionally, we explored potential effect modification of dietary intake and components. Generalized estimating equations were used to evaluate the associations between PM2.5 and the indicators with an unbalanced repeated measurement design. Our analysis incorporated a total of 162,060 observations from 99,329 participants. Each 10 μg/m3 increment of PM2.5 was associated with an increase of 0.22 % [95 % confidence interval (CI): 0.20 %, 0.25 %], 1.60 % (95 % CI: 1.53 %, 1.67 %), and 2.05 % (95 % CI: 1.96 %, 2.14 %) in TyG, TyG-WC, and METS-IR, respectively. Most tick-borne viruses (TBVs) are highly pathogenic and require high biosecurity, which severely limits their study. We found that Sindbis virus (SINV), predominantly transmitted by mosquitoes, can replicate in ticks and be subsequently transmitted, with the potential to serve as a model for studying tick-virus interactions. We found that both larval and nymphal stages of Rhipicephalus haemaphysaloides can be infected with SINV-wild-type (WT) when feeding on infected mice. SINV replicated in two species of ticks (R. haemaphysaloides and Hyalomma asiaticum) after infecting them by microinjection. Injection of ticks with SINV expressing enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein (eGFP) revealed that SINV-eGFP specifically aggregated in the tick midguts for replication. During blood-feeding, SINV-eGFP migrated from the midguts to the salivary glands and was transmitted to a new host. SINV infection caused changes in expression levels of tick genes related to immune responses, substance transport and metabolism, cell growth and death. SINV mainly induced autophagy during the early stage of infection; with increasing time of infection, the level of autophagy decreased, while the level of apoptosis increased. During the early stages of infection, the transcript levels of immune-related genes were significantly upregulated, and then decreased. In addition, SINV induced changes in the transcription levels of some functional genes that play important roles in the interactions between ticks and tick-borne pathogens. These results confirm that the SINV-based transmission model between ticks, viruses, and mammals can be widely used to unravel the interactions between ticks and viruses.

Abstract In recent years, coal and gas outburst disasters are still occurring and difficult to prevent, seriously endangering the safety of coal mine production. It is well known that the transporting and crushing of outburst coal is the main pathway of energy dissipation during the coal and gas outburst process. However, a consensus regarding how much gas involves in outburst and affects energy dissipation is still lacking. Quantitative study on the gas effect on migration and fragmentation characteristics of outburst coal in restricted roadway space can improve the energy model and guide the prevention and control of gas outburst. In this paper, an improved visual coal and gas outburst dynamic effect simulation experiment system was used to conduct outburst simulation experiments at different gas pressure conditions. The results showed that the movement of outburst coal in the roadway has experienced various flow patterns. In the initial stage of the outburst, under low gas pressure condition, the motion of the outburst coal was dominated by stratified flow. However, as the gas pressure increases, the initial acceleration increases, and the outburst coal mainly move forward rapidly in the form of plug flow. The average velocity at 0.3, 0.5, and 0.8 MPa gas pressure condition were 6.75, 22.22 and 35.81 m/s, respectively. Gas also has a crushing effect on outburst coal. With increasing gas pressure, the number of coal powder particles of the same mass increased significantly, and the range of the particle size distribution of the particles decreaed, and the median particle size decreased. As the gas pressure increases, the outburst intensity gradually increases, and the total energy involved in the outburst work also increases. However, the energy dissipation pathways are different. At 0.3 MPa, the energy dissipation is dominated by crushing energy, which is about six times the ejection energy. As the gas pressure increased to 0.8 MPa, the proportion of the ejection energy gradually increases to about twice that of the crushing energy. Under the experimental conditions, 2.71–13.43% of the adsorbed gas involves in the outburst (AGIO) through rapid desorption, and the proportion increases with increasing gas pressure. This paper improves the energy model of coal and gas outburst, which is applicable to risk assessment and prevention of outburst disasters.

Abstract Background The MeltPro TB assay (MeltPro) is a molecular rapid diagnostic test designed for detecting resistance to antituberculosis drugs. However, the performance of MeltPro as an initial diagnostic test for simultaneously detecting the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and drug resistance has not been evaluated. This study aims to assess the performance of MeltPro as initial diagnostic test for simultaneous detection of MTB and drug resistance in clinical samples from patients with presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 1283 patients with presumptive PTB from two clinical centers, out of which 875 were diagnosed with PTB. The diagnostic accuracy of MeltPro, Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert), and MGIT 960 for PTB detection was evaluated. Rifampicin (RIF), isoniazid (INH), ethambutol (EMB), streptomycin (STR), and fluoroquinolone (FQ) resistance were detected using MeltPro, with Xpert and/or the broth microdilution plate method (MYCOTB) results as references. Results For the diagnosis of PTB, MeltPro showed a sensitivity of 69.0%, which was similar to Xpert (72.7%; P > 0.05) and higher than MGIT (58.1%; P 0.05). Natural rubber (cis-1,4-polyisoprene, NR) is an important raw material utilized widely in the manufacturing of medical, agricultural, and industrial products. Rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) and several alternative rubber-producing plants (Taraxacum kok-saghyz, Lactuca sativa, and Parthenium argentatum) have the capability to produce high-quality NR. With the progress of genome sequencing, similar rubber biosynthesis pathways have been discovered among different rubber-producing plant species. NR is synthesized and stored in rubber particles, which are specialized organelles comprising a hydrophobic NR core surrounded by a lipid monolayer and membrane-bound proteins. The rubber transferase complex is considered to be the pivotal enzyme involved in catalyzing NR biosynthesis. However, the exact compositions of the RT complex in rubber-producing plants remain elusive and poorly understood. Here, we review the progress of genome sequencing, natural rubber biosynthesis, and the components of the RT complex in rubber-producing plants. We emphasize that identifying the detailed components of the RT complex holds great significance for exploring the mechanism of NR biosynthesis and accelerating molecular breeding in rubber-producing plants.

Liquidity creation, as a core functions of banks, affects the stability of the financial system and economic development significantly. However, the existing literature has largely ignored the impact of complex interbank linkages on liquidity creation. This may distort the understanding of liquidity creation away from its essence to some extent in the context of an increasingly interconnected financial system. Using a sample of 1406 banks from 29 European countries during 2010–2021, we use a complex network to model the interbank market and study its impact on liquidity creation. Our results indicate that dominant borrowers in the network create less liquidity as a result of their more prudent liquidity management. Higher bank capital weakens this negative relationship due to its risk-absorbing capacity. Conversely, dominant lenders in the network create more liquidity because of their more optimistic expectations and more lax liquidity management. Higher non-interest income weakens this positive relationship because of the higher risk of non-traditional business, which requires banks to hold more precautionary liquidity. Moreover, we test for endogeneity and use the full sample to verify the robustness of our results.

As the disaster-causing characteristics of coal and gas outburst and the mechanism of induced mine airflow disaster are not clear, the facilities such as air door and self-rescue system are often arranged on site according to miner’s experience, thus it is difficult to take safety protection measures and formulate scientific and reasonable emergency plan. In order to accurately grasp the impact dynamic effect and disaster-causing characteristics of coal and gas outburst, based on the similarity theory, a set of physical simulation experimental system considering the disaster-causing strengthening effect caused by gas in the pressure relief area around the outburst hole was developed. And the key parameters of the gas supplement device were determined through strict calculation based on the outburst model and gas seepage theory. The experimental system mainly includes outburst hole dynamic system, outburst excitation device, roadway simulation system and data acquisition and control center, which can simulate outburst dynamic phenomena such as the formation and propagation of outburst shock wave, the migration of outburst coal-gas two-phase flow and gas countercurrent in the simulated roadway. The simulation experiment of outburst disaster with a gas pressure of 0.8 MPa was carried out. And the forming process of outburst shock wave was directly observed with a high-speed camera. The results show that the outburst shock wave is formed instantly in the pipeline at the moment of outburst, followed by impact flow, outburst gas flow and coal-gas two-phase flow. The comparable velocities of each parameter are in the order: the air shock wave velocity > impact flow velocity > outburst gas-flow velocity > outburst coal-gas two-phase flow front velocity. The maximum velocities of each parameter are 546.5, 496.7, 112.6 and 51.5 m/s respectively, and gradually decay along the pipeline. At the moment of outburst, high-pressure gas poured into the roadway space from the outburst hole, resulting in gas reflux. During the outburst process, the gas pressure inside the outburst hole decreases exponentially. After the outburst occurs, the gas concentration in the roadway changes with time in “sudden rise stage” and “slow decline stage”, and the migration mode of the gas outburst in the roadway mainly includes “displacement" and “diffusion”. The accumulation height and quality of outburst coal along the main roadway are consistent. The difference of grain size distribution between outburst coal and raw coal is mainly concentrated in 0−500 μm, while the difference of maximum grain size distribution is mainly concentrated in 150−200 μm. In addition, the proportion of coal powder with particle size distribution in the range of 150−200 μm increases with the increase of the distance from the outburst mouth, showing a strong sorting ability.

The integration of RNA metabolic labelling by nucleoside analogues with high-throughput RNA sequencing has been harnessed to study RNA dynamics. The immunoprecipitation purification or chemical pulldown technique is generally required to enrich the analogue-labelled RNAs. Here we developed an a6A-seq method, which takes advantage of N6-allyladenosine (a6A) metabolic labelling on cellular mRNAs and profiles them in an immunoprecipitation-free and mutation-based manner. a6A plays a role as a chemical sequencing tag in that the iodination of a6A in mRNAs results in 1,N6-cyclized adenosine (cyc-A), which induces base misincorporation during RNA reverse transcription, thus making a6A-labelled mRNAs detectable by sequencing. A nucleic acid melting assay was utilized to investigate why cyc-A prefers to be paired with guanine. a6A-seq was utilized to study cellular gene expression changes under a methionine-free stress condition. Compared with regular RNA-seq, a6A-seq could more sensitively detect the change of mRNA production over a time scale. The experiment of a6A-containing mRNA immunoprecipitation followed by qPCR successfully validated the high-throughput a6A-seq data. Together, our results show a6A-seq is an effective tool to study RNA dynamics.

Abstract Objective Investigate the use of endobronchial ultrasonography with a guide sheath (EBUS-GS) combined with Gene Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) for diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection in isolated pulmonary nodules. Methods Patients who had isolated pulmonary nodules and unknown diagnoses at our institution from October 2020 to December 2021 were prospectively examined using EBUS-GS and Xpert. The diagnostic values of using EBUS-GS or bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) with acid-fast staining, MGIT 960 culture, pathological examination, and Xpert for isolated pulmonary nodules caused by MTB infection were compared using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results There were 135 patients, 64 with isolated pulmonary tuberculomas and 71 with non-tuberculous lesions. The sensitivity of EBUS-GS with Xpert was significantly higher than BALF with Xpert (57.81% vs. 34.78%, P = 0.017). Use of EBUS-GS with Xpert and MGIT 960 culture further increased the sensitivity to 62.50% (95%CI 50.64–74.36) and increased the specificity to 100%. The AUC values of BALF with MGIT 960 culture was 0.663(95%CI 0.543–0.783) and BALF with Xpert was 0.674 (95%CI 0.556–0.792). The AUC values of EBUS-GS with MGIT 960 culture was 0.680 (95%CI 0.554–0.743), with pathological examination was 0.713 (95%CI 0.573–0.760), and with Xpert was 0.789 (95%CI 0.655–0.829). Conclusion Use of EBUS-GS with Xpert had high sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of isolated pulmonary tuberculoma. This method has significant potential for use in clinical practice.

Understanding the reproductive characteristics of a species is of crucial for accurate stock assessment and management plans to ensure sustainable fisheries. In this study, the size at 50% sexual maturity (L50) parameters in different bio-ecological provinces were estimated for bigeye tuna, Thunnus obesus, sampled from the Eastern Pacific Ocean tuna fisheries-dependent survey from 2013 to 2019. The overall sex ratio of the catch during the sampling differed significantly from 1:1. Bigeye tuna exhibit sexual dimorphism in the growth of males and females, with a clear shift in predominance from female to male with increasing sizes. In the North Pacific Sub-tropical Gyre (east) (NPST-east), North Pacific Tropical Gyre (NPTG), Pacific North Equatorial Countercurrent (PNEC), and Pacific Equatorial Divergence (PEQD), females (meals) reached sexual maturity round 102 cm (106 cm), 106 cm (100 cm), 125 cm (110 cm), and 113 cm (110 cm), respectively, the estimated L50 of bigeye tuna was 124.08 cm, 121.97 cm, 139.92 cm and 132.45 cm, respectively. The degree of populations mixing between equatorial (PNEC and PEQD) and high-latitude regions (NPST-east and NPTG) is extremely small, but it is reasonably high between the NPST-east and NPTG or PNEC and PEQD. These parameters were significantly different, suggesting the occurrence of a spatial difference in the size-at-maturity of bigeye tuna between these bio-ecological provinces. The findings of this study provide the key information for understanding the life history of bigeye tuna in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and will contribute to the conservation and sustainable yield of this species.

The compound eye is a natural multi-aperture optical imaging system. In this paper, a continuous optical zoom compound eye imaging system based on Alvarez lenses is proposed. The main optical imaging part of the proposed system consists of a curved Alvarez lens array (CALA) and two Alvarez lenses. The movement of the CALA and two Alvarez lenses perpendicular to the optical axis is realized by the actuation of the dielectric elastomers (DEs). By adjusting the focal length of the CALA and the two Alvarez lenses, the proposed system can realize continuous zoom imaging without any mechanical movement vertically to the optical axis. The experimental results show that the paraxial magnification of the target can range from ∼0.30× to ∼0.9×. The overall dimensions of the optical imaging part are 54 mm × 36 mm ×60 mm (L × W × H). The response time is 180 ms. The imaging resolution can reach up to 50 lp/mm during the optical zoom process. The proposed continuous optical zoom compound eye imaging system has potential applications in various fields, including large field of view imaging, medical diagnostics, machine vision, and distance detection.

Estrone (E1), as an endogenous estrogen, has a variety of physiological functions in human body and is of great significance to human health. On the other hand, it is a widely distributed and highly disturbing environmental endocrine disruptor in water. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a sensitive, rapid, and inexpensive method for the on-site determination of E1, which is not only for clinical diagnosis and treatment, but also for the investigation and monitoring of endogenous estrogen pollution in environmental water. In this study, Ru(bpy)32+/MWCNTs/Nafion/gold electrodes were prepared by surface electrostatic adsorption and ion exchange. A molecularly imprinted membrane (MIP) with the capability to recognize E1 molecules was prepared by sol-gel method, and the electrodes were modified with MIP to form an electrochemical luminescence sensor (MIP-ECL). This method simultaneously possesses ECL’s advantage of high sensitivity and MIP’s advantage of high selectivity. Moreover, the addition of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-COOH) improved the functionalization of the gold electrode surface and increased the binding sites of MIP. Meanwhile, the good conductivity of MWCNTs promoted electron transfer and further improved the sensitivity of the sensor. The sensor showed a wide linear interval in which the E1 concentrations can range from 0.1 μg/L to 200 μg/L, along with a high linear correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.999). The linear regression equation of the sensor was Y = 243.64x-79.989, and the detection limit (LOD) was 0.0047 μg/L. To validate our sensor, actual samples were also measured by the reference method (LC-MS/MS), and it was found that the relative deviation of quantitative results of the two different methods was less than 4.1%. This indicates that the quantitative results obtained by this sensor are accurate and can be used for rapid in situ determination of E1 in clinical samples and environmental water.

Background. Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a clinically frequent acute abdominal condition, which refers to an inflammatory response syndrome of edema, bleeding, and even necrosis caused by abnormal activation of the pancreas’s own digestive enzymes. Intestinal damage can occur early in the course of AP and is manifested by impaired intestinal mucosal barrier function, and inflammatory reactions of the intestinal mucosa, among other factors. It can cause translocation of intestinal bacteria and endotoxins, further aggravating the condition of AP. Therefore, actively protecting the intestinal mucosal barrier, controlling the progression of intestinal inflammation, and improving intestinal dynamics in the early stages of AP play an important role in enhancing the prognosis of AP. Methods. The viability and apoptosis of RAW264.7 cells treated with Esculentoside A (EsA) and/or lipopolysaccharide were detected using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and flow cytometry, respectively. The expression of apoptosis-related proteins and NF-κB signaling pathway-related proteins were detected by western blot (WB). An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure TNF-α and IL-6 secretion. Results. In vitro experiments demonstrated that EsA not only promoted the apoptosis of inflammatory cells but also reduced the secretion of TNF-α and IL-6 in a dose-dependent manner. Additionally, it inhibited the activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway by decreasing the expression of phosphorylated-p65(p-p65) and elevating the expression of IκBα. Similarly, in vivo experiments using a rat AP model showed that EsA inhibited the expression of p-p65 elevating the expression of IκBα in the intestinal tissues of the rat AP model and promoting the apoptosis of inflammatory cells in the intestinal mucosa in vivo experiments, while improving the pathological outcome of the pancreatic and intestinal tissues. Conclusion. Our results suggest that EsA can reduce intestinal inflammation in the rat AP model and that EsA may be a candidate for treating intestinal inflammation in AP and further arresting AP progression.

ABSTRACTIt is critical to determine the real-world performance of vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) so that appropriate treatments and policies can be implemented. There was a rapid wave of infections by the Omicron variant in Jilin Province (China) during spring 2022. We examined the effectiveness of inactivated vaccines against Omicron using real-world data from this epidemic. This retrospective case-case study of vaccine effectiveness (VE) examined infected patients who were quarantined and treated from April 16 to June 8, 2022 and responded to an electronic questionnaire. Data were analyzed by univariable and multivariable analyses. A total of 2968 cases with SARS-CoV-2 infections (asymptomatic: 1061, mild disease: 1763, pneumonia: 126, severe disease: 18) were enrolled in the study. Multivariable regression indicated that the risk for pneumonia or severe disease was greater in those who were older or had underlying diseases, but was less in those who received COVID-19 vaccines. Relative to no vaccination, VE against the composite of pneumonia and severe disease was significant for those who received 2 doses (60.1%, 95%CI: 40.0%, 73.5%) or 3 doses (68.1%, 95%CI: 44.6%, 81.7%), and VE was similar in the subgroups of males and females. However, VE against the composite of all three classes of symptomatic diseases was not significant overall, nor after stratification by sex. There was no statistical difference in the VE of vaccines from different manufacturers. The inactivated COVID-19 vaccines protected patients against pneumonia and severe disease from Omicron infection, and booster vaccination enhanced this effect.
