If work-integrated learning (WIL) is intended by universities to meet the demand for work-ready graduates, identification of skill requirements for development on placements is a critical part of the learning process. Health services management specific employability skills perceived to be important by managers and recent graduates working in the field and their perceptions of skills they need to improve are not readily available in the literature. This research acknowledges the context specific nature or employability skills. Senior managers and recent graduates working in health services management were identified from a placement data base used at a NSW university, and were emailed a common questionnaire. A total of 38 senior managers and 42 recent graduates completed emailed surveys, rating importance and skills observed for 44 employability skills items. Items were informed by the literature and content analysis of advertisements for graduate health management positions. There was strong agreement between the two groups on important employability skills, and the top seven items on which they agreed were all generic in nature. Skill gaps were also revealed, many of which recent graduates did not appear to recognize.

Aim: This study aimed to explore the strategies and important components that can be implemented to build adolescent awareness about stunting prevention. Methods: This study used descriptive qualitative design. The data were collected through focus group discussions (FGDs) and semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling method was employed to select the participants. The FGDs involved adolescents (n = 6) and high school counselling teachers (n = 5), while the semi-structured interviews were conducted with experts frequently involved in overcoming stunting problems in Indonesia (n = 7). The interview results were transcribed in verbatim transcription and analysed by using thematic analysis. Results: Five themes were identified from the results: 1) Adolescent identity development with three sub-themes: online identity exploration, rebellious stage, and peer influence; 2) Creative and visually appealing website with six sub-themes: interesting appearance, short time span, serial content, story pattern, scenario using adolescent idol's name, and attractive website menu; 3) Nutritional needs for adolescents with three sub-themes: iron and calcium intake, less sugar consumption, and nutritional status; 4) Engaging content for adolescents with seven sub-themes: stunting, reproductive health, anaemia, diet, wellness, early marriage, and physical activity; and 5) Effective communication strategy with two sub-themes: consistency of activities and communicative. Implications: In designing adolescent stunting prevention interventions, multidisciplinary programs utilizing engaging digital health modules and grassroots partnerships should be developed and tested. These programs aim to enhance knowledge retention among youth through appealing online content and interactive community activities. Rigorous evaluation of biopsychosocial approaches can establish integrated best practices across individual, social and policy dimensions for reducing stunting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the global issue of homelessness, particularly its impact on vulnerable groups like women, Indigenous Australians, and those with mental health challenges. Topics include homelessness as a complex social issue, the lived experiences of homelessness, and the role of mental health nurses in providing trauma-informed care and advocating for affordable housing.

Exposure to traumatic and/or violent events is an inherent part of the first responder role, which increases the risk of developing acute and chronic mental health symptoms and conditions. Suicidality for Australian first responders have recently increased with prevalence considered much higher compared with the general population. To inform specific recommendations for Australian first responders, there is a need to establish what evidence is available regarding these issues within the Australian context. The aim of this scoping review was to explore the impacts of trauma on the mental health of Australian first responders, the strategies recommended to address these issues and any unique needs in rural contexts. A scoping review was undertaken following PRISMA guidelines for scoping reviews. Peer‐reviewed articles on Australian first responder mental health from seven databases were screened for inclusion. This review highlights that despite available evidence on the types of traumas and adverse mental health outcomes experienced, less evidence exists pertaining to intervention effectiveness. There are major gaps in evidence within rural and remote contexts which hinders effective planning and delivery of support for rural and regional first responders. Clinicians such as mental health nurses, particularly in rural areas, need to be aware of these gaps which impact planning and delivery of support and are in prime position to ensure screening, interventions and strategies are used and evaluated to determine their suitability for rural first responders. Our story began in the pursuit of understanding Aboriginal young persons' experiences of resilience and well-being. This was achieved by adopting an Aboriginal story method, combined with thematic analysis using winanga-li (to listen, to hear, to know and to remember) to hear and listen to the young people's stories, a method presented by Kovach ([2010]. Indigenous Methodologies: Characteristics, Conversations, and Contexts. Toronto: University of Toronto Press.) to honour the talk. This paper presents Aboriginal young people's views and experiences of resilience and well-being. Using a qualitative approach, we conducted yarning interviews with 15 Aboriginal young people. Our analysis revealed the overarching themes of belonging, experiencing distress, being strong, recognising risk and maintaining positivity, which is comprised of a set of subthemes to exemplify multiple layers of well being and resilience for the young people in this study. These findings confirm the absolute importance of connections, culture and community to young Aboriginal people and expose the distress that results from the loss of these relationships and connections. Given the known link between connections to culture, health and well being implications, the findings of this study have relevance for clinicians, researchers, and policy-makers. ABSTRACT Background Methods Results Conclusions Death and dying remain taboo subjects in society today and therefore people may come to the end of their life without having thought about what death and dying might be like and what it is to have a good death. The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand the experience of death and dying in a hospital emergency department. Culturally, some individuals are unprepared for death, and when death occurs in an emergency setting it can be particularly shocking.A phenomenological study was undertaken, based on the existential phenomenology of Merleau‐Ponty; and framed by the nurse theorist Hildegard Peplau. Bereaved relatives and registered nurses gave in‐depth interviews describing their experiences and the interviews were analysed using an adaptation of the work of Thomas and Pollio (2002) and Hycner (1985), consistent with Merleau‐Ponty's theories.The study brings new understanding of what it is like to die in an emergency setting through new understanding of what the accompanying relatives/friends of the deceased person experience, aided by new understanding of the experiences of emergency nurses.A nursing model based both on the work of Peplau (Parse et al. 2000) and on the work of the nurse theorists Ruland and Moore (1998) and Zaccara et al. (2017) was devised for use in the emergency department when death occurs. It is hoped that this model will help nurses improve the care given to this group of patients and their loved ones. Aim: This study aimed to gain a better understanding of nursing/midwifery students' perspectives on a pedagogy of caring and online learning during the COVID‐19 pandemic. In addition, it aimed to determine if the COVID‐19 pandemic impacted students' perceptions and experience of online learning and students' desire to enter the nursing/midwifery workforce. Design: Mixed methods. Methods: A multi‐centre cross‐sectional survey of Australian nursing and midwifery students was undertaken to explore students' experience of learning during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Results: There are several key findings from this study that may be relevant for the future delivery of undergraduate health education, students transitioning to practice and healthcare workforce retention. The study found that although students were somewhat satisfied with online learning during COVID‐19, students reported significant issues with knowledge/skill acquisition and barriers to the learning process. The students reported feeling less prepared for practice and identified how clinical staff were unable to provide additional guidance and support due to increased workloads and stress. The textual responses of participants highlighted that connection/disconnection, empathy and engagement/disengagement had an impact on learning during COVID‐19. Conclusion: Connection, engagement and isolation were key factors that impacted nursing students' online learning experiences. In addition, graduates entering the workforce felt less prepared for entry into practice due to changes in education delivery during COVID‐19 that they perceived impacted their level of clinical skills, confidence and ability to practice as new graduate nurses/midwives. Impact: Attention must be given to the transition of new graduate nurses and midwives whose education was impacted by pandemic restrictions, to support their professional career development and to ensure retention of future healthcare workforce.Connection, engagement and isolation were key factors that impacted nursing students' online learning experiences. Aim: To examine the personal experiences and perceptions of people with dark skin tones and their carers, in relation to pressure injury. Design: Qualitative study using semi‐structured interviews. Methods: Twenty‐two interviews with people with dark skin tone and/or their family carers, who were known to and visited by community nurses for pressure area management or who had been identified as being at high risk for developing a pressure injury were carried out. Results: Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts revealed that skin discolouration towards a darker hue than usual was the commonest symptom identified by participants as a sign of altered skin integrity and potential pressure damage. Four main overarching themes were revealed through comprehensive analysis of the transcripts: (1) indicators of pressure injury; (2) experienced symptoms of pressure damage; (3) trust in healthcare workers; and (4) improving care for populations with dark skin tones. Conclusion: The findings from this study clearly present how early‐stage pressure damage is identified among people with dark skin tones. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care: These findings have the potential to reduce health inequality by influencing and informing clinical policies and strategies in practice. Findings could also lead to the development of patient‐informed educational strategies for nurses and health workers which will enable the early identification of pressure ulcers among people with dark skin tones. Further research is needed to better understand health disparities in relation to preventable patient safety harm. Impact: The findings demonstrate the importance of engaging with and listening to the stories and experiences of people living with pressure damage to help in the early recognition of pressure injuries. The process of curriculum development can be informed by seeking the views of stakeholders, including employers, academics, students and recent graduates, about the skills, attributes and personal characteristics required by various professions. The views of several stakeholders may also be compared to help ensure reliability of results and identify areas of agreement or variance. However, there are documented limitations regarding the perceptions of academics and students of employability skills, and also problems with employers' and recent graduates' views. Another approach to identifying the skills required in various professions is content analysis of job vacancy advertisements. Content analysis of advertisements is a versatile way of identifying current skills required by various professions, and allows comparison across countries and over time to identify trends. Yet there is little evidence to suggest that this information is used to inform curriculum development. This paper presents a qualitative integrative review of studies looking at employability skills (ES) through the use of content analysis of job vacancy advertisements. Here ES are equated with essential requirements stated in vacancy advertisements. ES is the term adopted in Australia by DEST (2002) to define skills required to both secure employment and progress in an organisation. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (2014) checklist for qualitative research was used in this integrative review of 40 studies. The range of application, research methods used and findings are discussed in this paper, as are the advantages and challenges associated with analysing job vacancy advertisements as a method of identifying employability skills (ES) required by employers.
