A two-year-old male Pomeranian dog visited the hospital due to side effects of surgical correction for patellar luxation. Stifle joint arthrodesis (SJA) was performed on the patient’s right leg using autologous bone grafting techniques. The right leg’s femur and tibial joint were angled 120-130◦ and the SJA plate was fixed on the front of the two bones. After performing joint fusion of the right limb, medial patellar luxation (MPL)-corrective surgery was performed to cut the tibial tuberosity on the left leg and the fixing force was increased using the figure-of-eight tension band wiring technique. The results were observed for walking and trotting of the right hind limb, evaluated for 27 days after surgery. It was difficult for the patient to walk because weight loading was not performed for 3 days after surgery; short strides and partial weight bearing were possible 5 to 7 days after surgery. After 10 days, the patient was able to move while bearing weight with a slight disruption. For trotting, the patient showed intermittent normal steps 5 to 7 days after surgery, but the disruption continued. After 14 days, trotting was possible and movements were shown to be maintained during everyday activities.

Magnetoelectric (ME) multiferroics manifesting the coexistence and the coupling of ferromagnetic and ferroelectric order are appealing widespread interest owing to their fascinating physical behaviors and possible novel applications. In this review, we highlight the progress in single-phase ME multiferroic oxides research in terms of the classification depending on the physical origins of ferroic properties and the corresponding examples for each case, i.e., material by material, along with their ME multiferroic properties including saturation magnetization, spontaneous polarization, (anti)ferromagnetic/ferroelectric transition temperature, and ME coefficient. The magnetoelectrically-active applications of high expectancy are presented by citing the representative examples such as magnetoelectric random-access-memory and multiferroic photovoltaics. Furthermore, we discuss how the development of ME multiferroic oxides should proceed by considering the current research status in terms of developed materials and designed applications. We believe that this short review will provide a basic introduction for the researchers new to this field.

The strain behavior of 0.71 Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.29 PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) single crystal prepared by a solid-state single crystal growth method was investigated on two most widely used orientations, i.e., (001)- and (011)-oriented. A special emphasis was put on the correlation among longitudinal and transverse strains and the consequent volume change. We show that seemingly different strain behavior of (001)- and (011)-oriented crystals has the same origin, and the underlying mechanism excludes possible contribution from the frequently cited polarization rotation. In situ monitoring of electric field induced Poisson’s ratio further suggested that the polarization vectors contributing to the strain properties in PMN-PT are not confined to a unique direction forced by the crystallographic symmetry but possess a span of angular range.

Multiferroic Fe-site engineered lead iron niobate [Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3, PFN] was prepared by partially substituting Fe with Ni, Co, and Cr, which comprise distinct Bohr magnetons, to investigate the effect of the variation in spin configurations on magnetic and multiferroic properties. All the studied compositions exhibited a single-phase perovskite structure, wherein the lattice constant decreased with increasing substitutions. The inherent ferroelectric order was preserved when Ni or Co ions were introduced, while the introduction of Cr made the samples too lossy, which prevented the verification of the possible ferroelectricity. Substitution of Fe with different transition metals in PFN, which is originally paramagnetic at room temperature, resulted in oriented spin configurations that led to distinct magnetic orders: soft ferromagnetic, hard ferromagnetic, and antiferromagnetic orders for Ni, Co, and Cr, respectively. This distinction mainly stems from the interspin distance and the spin moment, both of which are important factors during the spin exchange interaction. The interspin distance of pristine and Cr-substituted PFN is too long and short, respectively, to induce ferromagnetic properties. Moreover, at room temperature, magnetic-field-dependent magnetoelectric coupling was observed only for the Ni- and Co-substituted PFN owing to their asymmetric spin configuration. This research could lead to a general method for modulating the magnetic properties of multiferroic perovskite oxides.

Emerging evidence indicate various environmental factors include stressors cause mental illness. Currently, unmet medical outcomes and surveillance platform demand in the field of mental disorders to implement of sensitivity associated along with key biomarker in the process of detection, evaluation and validation. The use of omics, based on macromolecule dependent data analysis such as bioinformatics in mental disorders and in a health care assessment platform, has the potential to increase identification of risk genes and treatment option by validate functional efficacy of drug or recovery status of brain function utilize behavioral assessment and metabolomics include neuro-pharmacogenomics study. This concept sounds futuristic but ideal. If the multiple data bases around the world continue to grow, making identification of a strand more likely, then health professional include clinicians and lab scientists could predict the likelihood of a disease outbreak, drug addiction, and the probability of synaptic malfunction that a treatment will work. Being able to stratification of risk gene profile and biomarker monitoring prior to disease dissemination has the potential to greatly diminish the current health care economic burden. However, the implementation in the clinical setting may take time; the therapeutic alternative includes biological and synthetic product will be worth the wait. Herein, to visualize impact of molecular connectivity and dynamics on functional imbalance resulted in phenotypic changes which reflect gene alterations such as single nucleotide polymorphism in several mental disorders, we conducted short review of mental illness which predominantly occurred and unknown causes by visualize identifying risk genes and functional susceptibility in the molecular diagnostic advances using Omics platform. In the future, it is likely that a majority of our treatment and care for patients or personal medicine/population medicine will be based on an omics strategy, molecular based risk assessment tools, as a safe and empower sensitivity to validate potential risk gene or therapeutic gene by adopting early detection risk management such as Integrated Omics.

Enzymatic structure modification of the representative chalcone phloretin (1) with polyphenol oxidase from Agaricus bisporus origin produced 2 new biphenyl-type phloreoxin (2) and phloreoxinone (3), and a previously undescribed (2R)-5,7,3′,5′-tetrahydroxyflavanone (4). The structure of these new oxidized products 2-4 elucidated by interpreting the spectroscopic data (NMR and FABMS) containing the absolute stereochemistry is established by the analysis of the circular dichroism spectrum. Compared to the original phloretin, the new products (2) and (3) showed highly improved antiadipogenic potencies both toward pancreatic lipase and accumulation of 3T3-L1 cells. Also, phloreoxin (2) effectively inhibited the expression of C/EBPβ, PPARγ, and aP2 at the mRNA level in the 3T3 adipocytes. Thus, phloreoxin (2), containing a biphenyl moiety catalyzed by A. bisporus polyphenol oxidase, have the potential to influence the antiadipogenic capacity.

The depth camera has enabled the skeleton and joints of the human body to use skeleton data in 3D space. Behavior recognition using skeleton data is mainly based on artificial neural networks such as RNN. This study classifies behaviors observed by the consumer into four categories using skeleton model learning for purchase predictive design. Skeleton model learning collects 25 skeleton joints using several Kinect v2s in unattended stores where four racks of items can be purchased. Torso, left arm, right arm, left leg, and right leg to five body joints are performed by BRNN, and as the layer becomes deeper, each part is then joined to the body. Finally, the 25 joints are grouped together and BRNN-LSTM is performed to solve the vanishing gradient problem (Jun et al. in J Korea Multimedia Soc 21:369–381, 2018, [1]). Supervised learning involves four behaviors used as input and the purchase record status as output. A GRU is employed to reduce computational complexity while maintaining the benefits of LSTM.

A series of novel (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)-phloroglucinol hybrid compounds 1-4 has been successfully synthesized by employing a simple and efficient methodology using a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma irradiation. The new hybrid structures were determined by interpretation of spectroscopic data, with the absolute configurations being established by analysis of the circular dichroism (CD) spectra. The novel hybrids 1 and 2 showed highly improved anti-adipogenic potencies toward both pancreatic lipase and preadipocytes differentiation in 3T3-L1 compared to the original EGCG and phloroglucinol. A novel hybrid 1 represent an interesting subclass of anti-adipogenic candidates that need further research.

We investigated the effect of Acer tegmentosum Maxim (ATM) on adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells and anti-obesity properties in obese rats fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Cellular lipid content in DMI (dexamethasone, 3&ndash, isobutyl&ndash, 1&ndash, methylxanthine, and insulin mixture)-treated cells increased, while ATM treatment caused a significant reduction in lipid accumulation in differentiated 3T3-L1 cells. ATM (60 ug/mL) caused inhibition of adipogenesis via down-regulation of the CCAAT/enhancer binding protein &beta, (C/EBP&beta, ) (48%), C/EBP&alpha, (66%), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor &gamma, (PPAR&gamma, ) (64%) expressions in 3T3-L1 cells. Moreover, ATM induced a decrease in the expressions of adipocyte-specific genes, such as adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein-2 (aP2), fatty acid synthase (FAS), and lipoprotein lipase (LPL). Protein kinase B (Akt) and glycogen synthase kinase 3&beta, (GSK3&beta, ) phosphorylation was also decreased by ATM treatment of 3T3-L1 adipocytes. We investigated the anti-obesity effects of ATM on HFD-induced obese rats. Rats fed with an HFD demonstrated elevations in body weight gain, while the administration of ATM reversed body weight (BW) gains and adipose tissue weights in rats fed an HFD. ATM supplementation caused a decrease in the circulating triglyceride and total cholesterol levels and led to inhibition of lipid accumulation in the adipose tissues in HFD-induced obese rats. Epididymal fat exhibited significantly larger adipocytes in the HFD group than it did in the ATM-treated group. These results demonstrate that ATM administration caused a reduction in adiposity via attenuation in adipose tissue mass and adipocyte size.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effects of rotenoisin A on adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. 3T3-L1 cells were treated with rotenoisin A for 8 days after the induction of differentiation. Oil-red O staining showed that rotenoisin A significantly inhibited DMI-induced lipid accumulation and adipocyte differentiation. We found that rotenoisin A treatment of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes significantly reduced the mRNA and protein levels of the key adipocyte-specific transcription factors C/EBPβ, C/EBPα, and PPARγ and markedly inhibited the expression of fatty acid-binding protein (aP2), fatty acid synthase (FAS), and lipoprotein lipase (LPL). Furthermore, we observed that rotenoisin A substantially increased the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and its downstream target phosphorylated acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACC). However, co-treatment with Compound C, an AMPK inhibitor, reversed the rotenoisin A-induced inhibition of the expression of the adipogenic transcription factors C/EBPα and PPARγ and decreased the levels of phosphorylated AMPK in differentiated 3T3-L1 cells. These results demonstrated that the anti-adipogenesis mechanism involves the down-regulation of critical adipogenic transcription factors, including C/EBPβ, C/EBPα, and PPARγ, through activation of the AMPK signaling pathway by rotenoisin A.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Acer tegmentosum Maxim (ATM) on adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 adipocyte-derived cells and anti-obesity properties in high fat diet (HFD)-induced obese rats. Methods: 3T3-L1 adipocytes and HFD-induced obese rats were treated with ATM, and its effect on gene expression was analyzed using RT-PCR and Western blotting experiments. Results: Cellular lipid contents in DMI (dexamethasone, 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine, and insulin mixture)-treated cells increased, while ATM treatment caused a significant reduction in lipid accumulation in differentiated 3T3-L1 cells. ATM caused inhibition of adipogenesis via down-regulation of the CCAAT/enhancer binding protein β (C/EBPβ), C/EBPα, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) expressions in 3T3-L1 cells. Moreover, treatment with ATM caused a decrease in the expressions of adipocyte-specific genes, such as adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein-2 (aP2), fatty acid synthase (FAS), and lipoprotein lipase (LPL), compared with DMI-stimulated adipocytes. In addition, phosphorylation levels of protein kinase B (Akt) and its downstream substrate, glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β), were significantly decreased by ATM treatment of 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Together, these results indicated that ATM caused inhibition of both adipocyte differentiation via suppression of the C/EBP family and PPARγ expressions and the Akt signaling pathway in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. In the present study, we further investigated anti-obesity effects of ATM on HFD-induced obese rats. Rats fed with HFD demonstrated elevations in body weight gain, while the administration of ATM significantly reversed BW gains and adipose tissue weights in rats fed HFD. ATM supplementation also caused a decrease in the circulating triglyceride levels and total cholesterol levels and led to inhibition of lipid accumulation in the adipose tissues in HFD-induced obesity in rats. Furthermore, epididymal fat exhibited larger adipocytes in the HFD group, whereas the ATM-treated group was significantly smaller than that of HFD group. These results strongly demonstrate that ATM administration caused a reduction in adiposity via attenuation in adipose tissue mass and adipocyte size. Conclusion: These finding demonstrated that ATM exerted anti-obesity effects through inhibition of adipocyte differentiation and adipogenesis, leading to a decrease in BW and fat tissue mass in HFD-induced obesity in rats.

Radiation is a promising technique for improving the safety and shelf-life of processed foods. In the present investigation, the degradation mechanism and bioactivity improvement of rosmarinic acid (RA) were studied in response to various gamma irradiation doses (10, 20, and 50 kGy). RA exposed to gamma irradiation at 50 kGy was completely degraded and showed an increased inhibitory effect against 3 T3-L1 preadipocyte compare to the parent compound. Structures of the newly generated compounds 2–4 from irradiated RA at 50 kGy were elucidated based on spectroscopic methods, including 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS). Interestingly, compounds 2 and 5 exhibited significantly enhanced anti-adipogenic properties in 3 T3-L1 cells compared to the original compound. These results provide evidence that structural changes in RA induced by gamma irradiation might enhance biological efficacy.

In this study, ferroelectric Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 with an antiferromagnetic polymorph at and below 150 K was converted into a room-temperature magnetoelectrically active multiferroic with soft ferromagnetism by disrupting the existing antiparallel spin alignment of Fe ions through the heavy replacement of Fe by Ni. To maximize the induced soft-ferromagnetic properties and the consequent nonlinear magnetoelectric coupling, the substitution level of Ni should be controlled such that the individual Ni ions are separated from one another to avoid mutual spin cancellation. The induced magnetoelectric coupling was found to originate from the collective contribution of oppositely canted pairs of spins in two nearby Fe3+ ions, which counterbalances the relatively smaller spin moment of the in-between Ni ions. The non-material specific nature of this strategy implies that it can be used in the development of new room-temperature multiferroic perovskite oxides.

Phloridzin is a natural phloretin glucoside found in several parts of apple trees and is an attractive target for structural modification as novel pharmaceutical agent. Nonthermal dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma-induced structural changes in dihydrochalcone phloridzin (1) resulted in the isolation of three new methylene-bridged dihydrochalcone dimers, methylenebisphloridzin (2), deglucosylmethylenebisphloridzin (3), and methylenebisphloretin (4), along with phloretin (5). The chemical structures of these newly generated compounds were elucidated by interpretation of their spectroscopic data. The new phloretin dimer 4 connected by a methylene linkage exhibited significantly improved anti-adipogenic properties against pancreatic lipase as well as differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes compared to the parent compound phloridzin.

When a picture book is photographed with a smart device, the text is analyzed for meaning and associated images are created. Image creation is the first step in learning DCGAN using class lists and images. In this study, DCGAN was trained with 11 classes and images of 1688 bears, which were collected by ImageNet for design. The second step is to shoot the image and text of the picture book on a smart device, and convert the text part of the shot image into a system readable character. We use the morpheme analyzer to classify nouns and verbs in text, and Discriminator learn to recognize the classified parts of speech as latent vectors of images. The third step is to create an associated image in the text. In the picture book, take the text of the part without the image and extract nouns and verbs. The extracted parts of speech and the learned latent vector are used as Generator parameters to generate images associated with the text.

Thymic hematomas are uncommon in animals, and the few reported cases are all in dogs. In May 2019, we necropsied a wild Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) in Junju, Republic of Korea, and found a thymic hematoma without any signs of trauma or hemorrhage in other organs, except for a hemothorax. This study describes the macroscopic and microscopic examinations of a thymic hematoma in an Eurasian otter.

Convenient structure modification of (+)-catechin (1) induced by nonthermal dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma treatment afforded three novel methylene-linked flavan-3-ol oligomers, methylenetetracatechin (2), methylenetricatechin (3), and methylenedicatechin (4), together with two known catechin dimers, bis 8,8′-catechinylmethane (5) and bis 6,8′-catechinylmethane (6). The structures of the three new catechin oligomers 2–4 with methylene bridges were elucidated by detailed 1D- and 2D-NMR analysis, and the absolute configurations were established by the observation of circular dichroism (CD). The novel products 2 and 3 showed significantly enhanced anti-adipogenic capacities against both pancreatic lipase and differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes compared to the parent (+)-catechin.

Bioassay-guided isolation of an ethanolic extract of the aerial parts from Ainsliaea acerifolia using pancreatic lipase inhibitory assay led to the isolation of a new guaianolide-type sesquiterpene lactone ( 1 ), a new dicaffeoylquinic acid derivative ( 4 ), as well as eight known secondary metabolites. Structures of the two new compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effects against pancreatic lipase, and compound 2 exhibited significant inhibitory activity with an IC 50 value of 15.3 ± 0.7 μM. Furthermore, compound 2 also exhibited potent inhibitory effects against 3T3-L1 adipocyte cells.
