Abstract

Solar energy is a light source that can be distributed into buildings as natural light. Energy consumption decreases if it can distribute natural light maximally into the building. The aesthetics of the building will look beautiful when using the facade on the building envelope. Building design without using a facade can be perceived as monotonous or massive. Facade design needs to pay attention to the maximum light distribution factor that can enter the building, considering the effects of glare, high brightness, and illuminance ratio. The purpose of this study was to determine the building facade Model that can distribute natural light as much as possible so as to minimize energy consumption in the building. The design of the facade Model consists of a building without a facade, a flat shape, and a sloping shape. This study uses a quantitative method, namely the illuminance value of the Autodesk Ecotect Program, made in the form of tables and graphs to facilitate the analysis of the simulation results. The results of this study concluded that the facade models have effected on the distribution of natural light, and the percentage of light also affects the depth of space, namely the distance between the windows on the building envelope. Furthermore, the height of the building also affects the distribution of light entering the space. The results of the study concluded that the sloping facade model could distribute light evenly compared to the flat facade model. The illuminance value in the flat shape is only maximal in the area near the window on the building envelope so that it can cause negative effects, namely glare, and brightness. Abstract

To ensure high-quality lighting in indoor spaces, many objective parameters have been suggested in building codes and standards all over the world. Despite the emergence of luminance-based metrics, the average horizontal illuminance (Eav) remains popular in practice. For the case of relatively small rooms with one or two point light sources, it is often intended to determine the point with horizontal illuminance equal to Eav. It is also intended to have the computation for various room scenarios, so that the outcome can be predicted using a simple model. This study, therefore, aims to propose a method to identify the location of point of Eav on horizontal plane in cuboid rooms with various sizes, with one or two point light sources, and to further verify the theoretical concept. To achieve the objective, scenarios and assumptions are described using mathematical tools, followed with verification using grid computations and Monte Carlo simulation of 10,000 random scenarios. Logarithmic models to predict Eav value and its representative location are proposed. The room length-to-width ratio is found more influential, compared to the source luminous intensity characteristics, in affecting the location of point of Eav. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Lighting control integrated with daylighting is recognized as an important and useful strategy in energy efficient building design. One of the right factors to reduce energy consumption for artificial lighting during the day is the maximum utilization of sunlight. The aim of this research, distribution of daylight into the building analysis with five models of building facades and value of illuminance in the morning, afternoon and evening with orientation of the window openings to the northeast and southwest. Bank Mega is one of the tall buildings in Makassar Indonesia, which is located in a coastal area that is not blocked by other tall buildings, so this building is the object of research as a basis for designing façade models on building envelopes. The methodology this study is quantitative, analyzing the performance of sunlight as a source of daylighting in office buildings. This paper presents field measurements in office buildings, namely in rooms that are oriented northeast and southwest. The analysis in the two spaces is a reference to determine the effect of sunlight on the orientation of the building. In this study also conducted visual perception experiments by submitting questionnaires to 43 respondents. the results show that there are some complaints for employees, because of the high illuminance value in certain areas. Furthermore, simulate using the Radiance Illuminance Program software to determine the illuminance value of room in the morning, noon and afternoon with five building facade model designs, i.e., massive glass, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and vertical-diagonal model. The results presented in this paper show that the distribution of daylight in an east-oriented room is higher in the morning than in the evening and noon. Whereas in the southwest orientation it is inversely proportional, the value of light distribution is higher in the afternoon than in the morning and noon. Accordingly, orientation of the building affects distribution of daylight. The massive glass facade model without using sun shading has the highest light distribution value compared to other façade models, but can cause glare and excessive brightness. Furthermore, the second highest distribution of daylight with the vertical facade model, but there are also areas that exceed the standard illuminance level for workspaces, but only in areas near window openings. The combined model of the vertical diagonal facade which also has a high distribution of illuminance value and to redirect daylight deep into building interior simultaneously in the morning, afternoon and evening. Accordingly, façade model on envelope of building affects distribution of daylight. The aesthetic value of architectural design shows that the appearance of the building does not look monotonous or massive, when using the building facade models because there are attractive areas in the building envelope. Abstract

Efforts on waste recycling as part of the green revolution are getting the attention of researchers specifically in the composite manufacturing fields. The requirements for modern building materials today include the acoustical characteristics of the materials which are able to absorb noises in a building environment. This study measured the sound absorption coefficient (a) of the composite made of banana midrib waste (BM) with two patterns of layering method i.e parallel and cross. The measurement results were compared with Glasswool (GW) as reference material. The measurement results show that the average a of the BM panel with the cross-layer arrangement (BMc) is relatively higher than the parallel layer arrangement (BMp), i.e. 0.85, 0.79, 0.79, and 0.77, 0.68, 0.73, respectively for thicknesses of 20, 40 and 60 mm. The comparison of a values of the two types of BM with GW shows the superiority of GW as an acoustic material with a difference of a <0.2 compare to the BM specimen. The results implied that, although BM has a relatively lower a value than GW, BM still has adequate acoustic characteristics to be used as an alternative acoustic material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A dormitory is a simple building that is intended as a residence for students. Universitas Hasanuddin, Faculty of Engineering (FoE), has a student dormitory very close to the FoE campus. The purpose of this study was to determine the indoor thermal conditions of the rooms in the dormitory. Furthermore, how the environment affects thermal comfort in the building. The research method is a quantitative method based on descriptive statistics on measurement results in the selected space and the data simulation using the Ecotect software. The results of the study concluded that the dormitory had not met the standard of thermal comfort in Indonesia, the average temperature was above 30°C. The simulation results of improvements concluded that the change in ceiling height could significantly reduce the temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

12. The Sound Absorption Characteristics of Bamboo Twigs Based on Surface Combination Patterns

Abstract

Bamboo twigs are branches of the bamboo plant. This study intends to confirm the potential of bamboo twigs as an alternative sound absorbing material in acoustic applications. The pieces of bamboo twigs are arranged according to their edges: hollow edges (RR) and node edges (BB), creating five upper-bottom surface combination patterns. The acoustical characteristics were examined through absorption coefficient (α) and standard deviation measurements. The result shows the best surfaces combination is the RB-RR specimen. RB-RR specimen is a combination of hollow and node edges on the upper surface and hollow edges on the bottom surface. Although narrower in frequency ranges, the specimen performs approximately equivalent to the well-known Glass wool in terms of maximum absorption coefficients (α). Refers to the measurement results, the abundant bamboo twigs can be qualified as a potential alternative for sound absorption material in the future.

Abstract

For the king or sultan-ruled states category, the Malay Royal towns are portrayed to be the most prominent town in the sultanate of Malay's administration structures. Apart from that, the Malay Royal Town has also been categorised as a historic town, representing the position and significance of the Malay sultanate hierarchy, dating back to the 16th century. This study's objective focuses on describing the idea of Malaysia's Malay Royal Town, which has founded the identity and image along with the elements in the tangible and intangible category that substantiates sustainability following the rapid urban development in operation where nearly all the Royal Towns of Malaysia are involved. Multiple case studies have been conducted in Malay Royal towns throughout Malaysia are Arau, Alor Setar, Kuala Kangsar, Klang, Seri Menanti, Muar, Pekan, Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu. In order to understand and define the concept and structure of Malay Royal towns in Malaysia, the research method adopted includes site observation, historical map overlay and semi-structured interviews. Results obtained from the research indicated that the Royal Towns of Malay had taken a major role in influencing the history and growth of the towns as they are replete with identity and cultural values. Therefore, there is a need for the Malay Royal towns' concept to be explored and appreciated by the nation so that all the distinctive elements and culture present within the Malay Royal towns can be retained for the knowledge of generations to come. Abstract

Tujuan kajian ini adalah mengkonstruksikan model 3 dimensi kenyamanan visual ruang kerja kantor di Indonesia berdasarkan penelitian visual performance dan visual perception. Penelitian dilakukan pada ruang eksperimen sebagai ruang kerja kantor dengan mendesain distribusi cahaya pada ruang tersebut. Tahapan eksperimen adalah uji coba, eksperimen awal, dan ekperimen lanjutan. Penelitian visual performance mendesain setting task illuminance sebanyak 6 setting. Penelitian visual perception pada eksperimen awal mendesain setting pencahayaan pada bidang kerja, dinding, dan plafon sebanyak 11 setting dan pada eksperimen lanjutan sebanyak 5 setting. Aktivitas visual performance adalah koreksi naskah dan visual perception untuk menjawab kuesioner tentang pencahayaan dan similarity/disimilarity antara setting pencahayaan ruang. Pengolahan data visual performance menggunakan program SPSS completely randomized design dan randomized block design untuk mengetahui hubungan antara task illuminance dan visual performance. Hasil data visual perception dianalisis secara statistik deskriptif dan grafik linier, untuk mengetahui distribusi cahaya pada permukaan apa yang berpengaruh terhadap visual perception. Analisis data kuesioner similarity/disimilarity menggunakan program Multi Dimensional Scalling, untuk mengetahui faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap desain pencahayaan ruang. Analisis klasifikasi kuesioner menggunakan program Matlab untuk mendesain perletakan setting dalam bentuk 3 dimensi. Model 3 dimensi kenyamanan visual ruang kerja kantor dirancang berdasarkan faktor task illuminance, surround illuminance dan ratio task/surround illuminance. Kesimpulan akhir adalah ruang dipersepsikan nyaman jika surround iluminance lebih tinggi daripada task illuminance dan ratio task/surround illuminance antara 1:2~1:5. Ruang diper-sepsikan paling nyaman adalah ratio 1:2 yaitu task illuminance sebesar 250 lux dan surround iluminance sebesar 500 lux. Hasil ini dapat menjadi design guideline dalam merencanakan pencahayaan pada bangunan. Kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa kenyamanan visual ruang tidak hanya tergantung pada tingkat iluminasi bidang kerja, tetapi distribusi cahaya pada sekeliling ruang turut mempengaruhi terciptanya kenyamanan visual ruang kerja kantor. Tingkat iluminasi task dan surround bukan hanya rendah atau tinggi nilai iluminasinya, tetapi juga tergantung pada rasio antara keduanya. Disimpulkan bahwa kenyamanan visual ruang kerja kantor tercipta jika suround illuminance lebih tinggi dari pada task illuminance dengan nilai ratio illuminance.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur dan menganalisis kondisi temperatur dan kelembaban relatif udara diluar bangunanberdasarkan data klimatik daerah tropis lembab. Data yang digunakan untuk menganalisis adalah temperatur dan kelembaban relatif udara yang diperoleh dari alat monitor cuaca (weather monitoring) Vaisala,RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), yang merupakan bagian dari perangkat AWS (Automatic WeatherStations) pada stasiun data kampus baru Fakultas Teknik Unhas Gowa. Data diolah dan dianalisis melalui komputer dengan menggunakan program Microsoft Excel dalam bentuk tabel dan diagram.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kondisi temperatur udara luar pada bulan September 2013-Agustus 2014 yang masuk dalam zona kenyamanan termal sesuaistandar SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) berdasarkan nilai rata-rata harian diatas 50%terjadi pada bulan Oktober, Desember, Januari, Februari, Maret, Mei, Juli dan Agustus. Nilai rata-rata dibawah 50% pada bulan September, November, April dan Juni. Temperatur udara maksimum tertinggi terjadi pada bulan September 2013 dan nilai minimum terendah pada bulan Agustus 2014.Untuk kelembaban relatif udara pada bulan September, Oktober, Maret, Mei, Juli dan Agustus masuk dalam zona kenyamanan termal diatas 50%, dan bulan November, Desember, Januari, April serta Juni berada dibawah 50%. Nilai rata-rata maksimum tertinggi terjadi pada bulan Desember 2013 dan minimum terendah pada bulan September 2013. Data temperatur dan kelembaban relatif udara di ruang luar (outdoor) bangunan kampus baru Fakultas Teknik Unhas Gowa tidak sepenuhnya mendukung penerapan system penghawaan pasif untuk mencapai kenyamanan termal dalam ruangan (indoor).

Abstract

Energy-efficient building design models are one of the factors that need to be considered in building planning. In the morning to evening, sunlight as a source of natural light can be used as a source of lighting in buildings. By utilizing natural light, it will reduce energy consumption in buildings. Air conditioning and lighting are important factors in designing energy efficient buildings. In this study, analyzing natural and artificial lighting at Graha Pena Makassar Building. The research method is quantitative by measuring and analyzing several workspaces that are directly and indirectly related to openings in the building envelope. statistical descriptive analysis, namely entering data into tables and graphs, then analyzing the level of illumination in the analyzed workspace. The research objective was to determine the level of illuminance in several workspaces with different orientations. How is the effect of natural light distribution on building orientation and how is the artificial lighting system at workspace in the Graha Pena Makassar. The results showed that the orientation of the building had an effect on the distribution of natural light into the space. The spatial orientation facing East has a higher distribution of natural light than that of the south. Workspaces that are not directly related to window openings in the building envelope are using artificial lighting systems in the form of lights. The workspace has uneven illumination levels in its work area, because the layout and placement of lighting points have not been well planned. The contribution of this research is a reference in designing a building facade design with an attractive appearance, and can maximize the use of solar energy as a source of natural lighting, while still paying attention to the visual comfort of space users. Abstract

Pemanasan global (global warming) menjadi pembicaraan penting di sejumlah Negara dimana terjadi fenomena naiknya suhu dipermukaan bumi. Perubahan suhu berdampak pada bangunan dimana bangunan mengkonsumsi energi dalam jumlah besar untuk memperoleh kenyamanan pencahayaan (visual comfort) dan penghawaan (thermal comfort). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis pencahayaan pada bangunan perkantoran Wisma Kalla di Makassar yang berlandaskan pada pemikiran meminimalkan konsumsi energi sehingga tercipta bangunan hemat energi tanpa mengurangi produktifitas kerja. Metode penelitian secara kwantitatif yaitu menganalisis tingkat iluminasi dan konsumsi energi pada ruang kerja kantor dengan menggunakan program ecotect. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan karakteristik dalam mendesain pencahayaan buatan yaitu dapat meminimalkan konsumsi energi dengan mempertimbangkan standar illuminasi (level illuminance), sehingga tercipta bangunan hemat energi.

Abstract

Perubahan iklim menyebabkan masalah pemanasan global dan juga memiliki dampak pada peningkatan beban energi bangunan. Desain Arsitek berperan penting dalam merancang bangunan dengan memperhatikan dampak lingkungan, suhu, angin dan cahaya. Radiasi matahari menyebabkan beban tinggi energi listrik untuk AC, sehingga para arsitek sebagai perancang harus mampu meminimalkan radiasi panas masuk kedalam bangunan. Selain itu, sinar matahari akan dapat masuk ke dalam bangunan sehingga beban energi listrik untuk pencahayaan buatan dapat diminimalkan juga. Desain bangunan hemat energi adalah hal yang perlu diperhatikan, dengan mempertimbangkan kenyamanan dalam beraktifitas sehingga produktivitas kerja meningkat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pencahayaan pada bangunan perkantoran di Makassar. Arsitektur hemat energi didasarkan pada gagasan meminimalkan penggunaan energi tanpa merubah fungsi bangunan, kenyamanan, dan produktivitas pengguna ruang. Penelitian ini menganalisa beban energi penerangan listrik dengan merancang model pencahayaan dan memperhatikan standar iluminasi yang telah direkomendasikan. Metode penelitian kuantitatif adalah dengan menggunakan program ecotect, untuk mengetahui tingkat iluminasi dan konsumsi energy bangunan perkantoran. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa pemanfaatan pencahayaan alami, model desain pencahayaan dan spesifikasi lampu yang digunakan, dapat meminimalkan konsumsi energi pada bangunan tetapi memperhitungkan tingkat iluminasi pada ruang kerja kantor.

Utilization of natural lighting is one factor to lower the energy consumption of a building. Model building facade effect on natural light sources that can be absorbed into the building. UNM Phinisi Tower Building is a metaphor for the display of boats phinisi using Hiperbolic paraboloid facade which is futuristic sophistication of the application of science and technology, so that this object that is the focus of research on the effects on the building facade natural lighting. A quantitative research methods using Autodesk Echotech program to determine the value of the building into the natural lighting illuminance, either by using the facade and do not. The aim of research is to determine the percentage utilization of natural light into the building using a building facade. The study concluded the decline percentage in the value of the illuminance after the building using the building facade is 49%-74% and a mean value of 60.3%, so it can be concluded that the building facade effects on the natural lighting. Visual comfort Prameter is the level suficient of illumination recommended which is not exceed the threshold contrsat and stated brightness level, and no room glare occured. Not only to illuminate the work space, level of illumination also effects on the room condition (comfort and fun) that create a comfortable oflce work space.The goal of this research is to recognize the influence of furniture lay out and light spot placement on the work space, and if the color of materials effect on the reflectance value of wall and ceiling. In this study, descriptive metode applicated on the Dialux program concluded that light point and furniture lay out made effect on the illumination level of the work space, and the color of materials influence the effect of reflectance.This research is expected to serve as guidelines in designing office work space inaccordance with the recommended illumination level.Keywords: illumination, luminance, visual comfort
