Malaysia hosts some of the most productive blue carbon ecosystems globally. Here we review the status of and known threats faced by local mangroves and seagrass and examine conservation prospects using carbon financing. Based on lessons learnt from blue carbon projects worldwide, Malaysia needs to address governance and financing hurdles that include clarifying land tenureship, ensuring local community involvement and benefits, and obtaining sustainable financing for long-term success. Research to clarify uncertainties on extent of seagrass and trajectories of both seagrass and mangrove ecosystems is needed to determine baseline scenarios and demonstrate additionality in carbon projects. Clear, definitive national approach to blue carbon is essential to streamline accounting and inventory of carbon stocks and benefits. Addressing these barriers and gaps requires a whole of society approach and public-private partnerships and ultimately allow Malaysia to fully tap into the global voluntary carbon market, local businesses, philanthropy, and multilateral carbon financing. This paper aimed to analyze and describe the discrimination faced by women in politics and general elections. The research method used was a literature review of scientific papers, books, newspapers, and other reading materials relevant to the research. The data collected was examined and reviewed. The study used the theories of Anne Philips and Nadezhda Svedova regarding women's political representation. The results and conclusions of this paper found that women's political representation is still deficient, caused by several factors such as patriarchal and masculine culture, dynasty politics that prioritize kinship, recruitment systems that are not women-friendly and financial limitations. This study explores the political economy of Minangkabau, a culturally rich and the world’s largest matrilineal community. The research focuses on understanding the power dynamics between men and women by conducting a gender analysis. The findings reveal that Minangkabau women hold a unique and privileged societal position. Traditionally, societal expectations allocate more roles and responsibilities to men, particularly in economic and political domains. Contemporarily, the special rights held by women have faded and been replaced by dominant male gender roles. Some gender roles have begun to disappear, such as the role of Bundo kanduang, mamak and tigo tungku sajarangan. In accessing economic resources, Minangkabau women experience challenges from men, private parties, and the government. These ignore the role of women as the legitimate owners of inherited property in Minangkabau land. Meanwhile, Minangkabau women have difficulty competing with men within systems that tend to be biased for political resources. In addition, Minangkabau women increasingly participate in productive work, demonstrating their ability to compete with men in the labor market. Background: The covid-19 pandemic may cause severe clinical manifestations in a vulnerable population, such as pregnant women. Based on Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (POGI), the number of maternal deaths due to covid-19 from April 2020 to April 2021 reached 3% and increased to 9% since the delta variant of covid-19 emerged. This research was expected to identify factors that are related to the mortality rate of pregnant women with covid-19., Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using secondary data collected from June 2020 to August 2021. The study was conducted in Universitas Indonesia Hospital, a national covid-19 referral hospital. Patient characteristics, pregnancy profile, comorbidities, laboratory results, chest X-ray examination, treatment options, and the severity of symptoms were evaluated. In addition, bivariate data analysis was carried out using the SPSS device., Results: Out of 114 research subjects, seven patients (6.1%) died, and 107 patients (93.9%) survived. The risk of mortality was significantly (P < 0.05) related to patients' age, duration of hospitalization, gestational age, severity rate of covid-19, the level of hemoglobin, leukocyte count, platelet count, lymphocytes, the levels of D-dimer, C-reactive protein, transaminase enzymes, urea, creatinine, eGFR, sodium, potassium, and procalcitonin. In addition, significant differences (P < 0.05) related to maternal mortality rate were also shown in the presence of comorbidities (type 2 diabetes, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease/acute coronary syndrome, and urinary tract infection), and the use of steroids and tocilizumab., Conclusion: Various factors significantly related to the mortality rate of pregnant women with covid-19. This study may become the basis for a further study with a larger number of subjects, adjustment of assessment and management of covid-19 infected pregnant women, thus hopefully reducing the risk of mortality in pregnant women with covid-19.
