1. EU Courts’ review of decisions imposing fines in EU state aids cases

Abstract

The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive view on the application of the principle of proportionality in the Commission’s decisions imposing fines in the area of state aids as well as the EU courts exercise of the jurisdiction over these decisions.The primary and secondary sources of law and the case law would be investigated in this article. The author would like to briefly describe the historical background of the application of the principle of proportionality and by analysing the case law follow the evolvement of the application of the principle. The study should bring the answer on question whether the rule of law (in this case principle of proportionality) is safeguarded enough by the courts review of the decisions imposing fines.

Abstract

The financial crisis has hit Europe with a truly unprecedented power, which has in early 2008 expected only a very small circle of pessimists. After the first cracks began to appear on the mortgage market in the U.S., however, started an avalanche that rolls until today. In today’s globalized world, it would be very naive to believe that this would not have an impact on the European Union internal market.With the crisis in the banking sector, the Member States of the European Union fought against the crisis in various ways. Allocation of the state aid in the first months of the crisis took place within the existing rules, yet it was necessary to enclose these huge expenditures by rules and regulations issued by the European Commission.This article discusses the types of state aid, which were used at the time from the first wave of state aid granted by Member States from 2008 to 2010 and also assess the current situation together with the evaluation of the approach of the European Commission.

Abstract

Ever-extending lifespans and low birth-rates (about 1.5 child per woman) contribute to the ageing of Czech society. By 2060, it is expected that just over one third of the Czech population will be aged 65 or over. By the 2060s, Czechs will be expected to retire at age 69 or later. Even with later retirement, the percentage of people entitled to an old-age pension will increase so that by the 2050s, approximately 28% of people may qualify for an old-age pension, compared with today's 20%. Changes in demographic composition will also influence other indicators: the average age around 2050 might be between 48-50 years, about ten years more than now. Politicians, managers and society leaders aim to find ways to successfully face this demographic challenge and enable everybody to have a sufficient level of economic, social, and health care provision. Most crucial in the near future is the adaptation of employment policies and pension reform. This chapter describes the situation regarding the employment of people over 50 years in the Czech Republic, research focused on extending working life, employment policies and characteristics of the pension system, paying special attention to gender differences. info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess

6. [Influence of drug concentration and blending technology on the content uniformity of mixture for low dose warfarin tablets]

Abstract

Warfarin is a drug with narrow therapeutic index. Individualization of dose and thorough therapy monitoring is compensated by long time use in praxis and low therapy cost. Considering the low dose usually administered, critical parameter of solid dosage form is its uniformity of content. It has to not only meet the criteria set by pharmacopoeia, but to meet them on statisticall significant level also.This experimental study asseses impact of warfarin concentration and blending time after adition of lubricant on uniformity of content of mixtures and tablets made of them. It concludes, that concentration in 2-2,7% range is optimal and its increase or decrease has a negative effect on uniformity of content. It also confirms 5 minutes of blending after lubricant addition to be adequate, as employing longer blending times leads to mixture overblending.Key words: content uniformity warfarin blending time narrow therapeutic index.
