26. Hemispatial Neglect with Neglect Dyslexia following Hypoxic Brain Injury

Abstract

Introduction : We report a patient with hypoxic brain injury following cardiac arrest, who had signs of spatial neglect and neglect dyslexia.Case : 39 year old male had admitted to the ER with status of cardiac arrest. After hypothermia therapy, he was recovered and concluded that his arrest was due to arrhythmia. The Brain MR interpretation was compatible with global hypoxic brain injury and his initial Korean Mini Mental Status Examination(K-MMSE) score was 16.His motor function improved dramatically that he was able to walk independently within a week but cognitive dysfunction did not show much improvement. Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment(LOTCA) evaluation showed that visuomotor organization and spatial relations were severely impaired.Trail Making Test(TMT) sheet showed interesting pattern. He connected 1-2-13, 1-2-3-14. Tendency of omitting the first digit of every two digit number was commonly seen. Neglect dyslexia was predicted. Neglect tests were performed and the result suggested of left side neglect. He seemed to have both allocentric and egocentric neglect. It was concluded that he had neglect dyslexia with unilateral spatial neglect.For treatments, he tried eye-patching and optokinetic stimulation via a clip from Youtube, in order to reduce stimuli of the left hemisphere leading to the interhemispheric re-balance. The outcome seems to be positive since the follow up neglect tests showed much improvement after a month. Conclusion : Right diagnosis of neglect and appropriate treatments were provided to the patient that he eventually came up with great functional improvement.

30. Synthesis and Structural Characterization of Lithium Ionic Conductors Li2MS3(M= Si, Si0.5Ge0.5, Ge) and Li16Ge5S18

Abstract

To develop inorganic Li conductors for all-solid-state Li-ion batteries, the present study clarified temperature-dependent structural changes in the Li2MS3(M= Si, Si0.5Ge0.5, Ge) phases, where new crystal structures favoring ionic conduction are potentially formed. Structural analysis was performed on powder X-ray diffraction data obtained at high temperatures. At 600 °C, tetragonal phases were formed in all three cases. Meanwhile, structural changes on cooling from 600 °C were different according to the Mspecies, leading to various crystal systems at room temperature (monoclinic for M= Si, orthorhombic for Si0.5Ge0.5, and hexagonal for Ge). Their ionic conductivities at 25 °C were 2.3 × 10–5, 1.7 × 10–7, and 8.6 × 10–9S cm–1, respectively, indicating that the conductivity depends significantly on the framework of the crystal structure. These phase identification results were further utilized to search the Li2S–GeS2pseudobinary system, revealing that the structure of Li16Ge5S18could not be assigned to any polymorphs identified for Li2MS3. This new crystalline phase showed an ionic conductivity of 7.2 × 10–5S cm–1at room temperature, which is 4 orders of magnitude higher than that of hexagonal Li2GeS3. This study highlights a drastic increase in the lithium conductivity achieved by controlling the crystal structure of the Li2MS3-related materials.

35. Smartphone Application Versus Pedometer to Promote Physical Activity in Prostate Cancer Patients.

Abstract

Background: Recently, the application of smartphone in medical field has received great attention. Introduction: The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of smartphone-based and conventional pedometer-based exercise monitoring systems in promoting home exercise among prostate cancer patients. Methods: Prostate cancer patients who have undergone surgery or androgen deprivation therapy were recruited. All participants were provided with physical activity goals based on their activities and were advised to achieve these goals during their home exercise period. The intervention group was instructed to use smartphone application to record their activities; they also received weekly remote consultations based on the activity record from the application, without visiting a clinic. The control group was instructed to keep a written record of their daily activities based on pedometer readings; these records were checked by clinicians during follow-up visits. The uptake, adherence, and completion rates of two groups were compared by intention-to-treat analysis. Changes in physical function during the exercise period were analyzed. Results:   In total, 100 patients were recruited (smartphone: 5 and pedometer: 50). No significant differences were detected between groups in rates of uptake (80.0% vs. 88.0%, p  = 0.28), adherence (92.5% vs. 79.5%, p  = 0.12), or completion (76.0% vs. 86.0%, p  = 0.20). Physical functions were significantly improved in both groups. Conclusions: The smartphone-based exercise monitoring system and the pedometer yielded comparable results in promoting physical activity, as assessed by rates of uptake, adherence, and completion. Exercise monitoring was effective in improving physical functions, in both methods.
