The effect of replacing hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) by octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7- tetrazocine (HMX) in HTPB-binder on the performance, sensitivity, thermal, and mechanical properties of the sheet explosive formulation has been studied. The maximum loading of HMX was achieved up to 78 per cent in HTPB-binder system. The velocity of detonation (VOD) of HMX-based sheet explosive was observed about 7300 m/s which is marginally higher than existing RDX-based sheet explosive formulation (RDX/HTPB-binder, 80/20). The VOD trends were verified by theoretical calculation by BKW code using FORTRAN executable program. The thermal decomposition kinetics of sheet explosive formulations was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. The activation energy for sheet explosive formulation HMX/HTPB-binder (78/22) was calculated using Kissinger kinetic method and found to be 170.08 kJ/mol, infer that sheet explosive formulation is thermally stable. Abstract: Polycrystalline ceramic samples of dysprosium (Dy3+) doped bismuth ferrite of general formula Bi1−x Dy x FeO3 (x=0.00, 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1) have been prepared by standard solid state reaction method. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis reveals that all the samples crystallize in the rhombohedral structure with noncentrosymmetric R3c space group. The refined lattice parameters decrease with the increase of Dy concentration within the same structure symmetry. The bond lengths among atoms for all the compounds were calculated by the Rietveld analysis. The frequency and temperature dependent dielectric constants (real and imaginary parts) have been measured. The real part of dielectric constant reveals that the Neel temperature decreases with the increase of Dy-substitution down to ∼200°C for 10% substitution to the Bi site. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Polycrystalline ceramic samples of pure and 50% La substituted BiFeO3 have been prepared by standard solid state reaction method using high purity oxides and carbonates. The formation of the single phase compound as well as its chemical analysis has been checked by X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDAX) techniques. A better agreement between observed and calculated X-ray powder diffraction patterns was obtained by performing the Rietveld refinement with a structural model using the non-centrosymmetric space group R3c. The lattice parameters in both the cases have been refined but the over-all structure remains the same. The microstructural studies have been carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) has been used to detect the Neel/transition temperature in the compounds. The activation energies calculated from log σ vs 1/T curve are 0.81eV and 1.13eV respectively. Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) has been used to study the magnetic behaviour of the compounds. It has been observed that by 50% La substitution the insulating behaviour of the material has been improved and showing the antiferromagnetic to weak ferromagnetic behaviour. Achieving optimal alignment in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a critical factor in ensuring optimal outcomes and long-term implant survival. Traditionally, mechanical alignment has been favored to achieve neutral post-operative joint alignment. However, contemporary approaches, such as kinematic alignments and hybrid techniques including adjusted mechanical, restricted kinematic, inverse kinematic, and functional alignments, are gaining attention for their ability to restore native joint kinematics and anatomical alignment, potentially leading to enhanced functional outcomes and greater patient satisfaction. The ongoing debate on optimal alignment strategies considers the following factors: long-term implant durability, functional improvement, and resolution of individual anatomical variations. Furthermore, advancements of computer-navigated and robotic-assisted surgery have augmented the precision in implant positioning and objective measurements of soft tissue balance. Despite ongoing debates on balancing implant longevity and functional outcomes, there is an increasing advocacy for personalized alignment strategies that are tailored to individual anatomical variations. This review evaluates the spectrum of various alignment techniques in TKA, including mechanical alignment, patient-specific kinematic approaches, and emerging hybrid methods. Each technique is scrutinized based on its fundamental principles, procedural techniques, inherent advantages, and potential limitations, while identifying significant clinical gaps that underscore the need for further investigation.

Background: The world is not on track to meet the World Health Assembly (WHA) global target on Low Birth Weight (LBW). To estimate the prevalence and to identify the associated determinants of LBW among the newborns., Material and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study among the 364 mothers registered under the all government health facilities of Dadra & Nagar Haveli (DNH) during November 2021 to January 2022., Results: The prevalence of LBW was found to be 39%. On uni-variable logistic regression, live in relationship, caste, weight of mother, Body Mass Index (BMI), weight gain <5 kg in 2nd and 3rd trimester, high-risk pregnancy, complication present in previous pregnancy and preterm delivery, while on multi-variable logistic regression, weight gain <5 kg in 2nd and 3rd trimester (AOR 2, 95% CI 1.007-4.2) and having high-risk pregnancy (AOR 2, 95% CI 1.1-3.0) were found to be the significant predictors of LBW among the newborns., Conclusions: We conclude from the study that the prevalence of low birth weight among the newborn was high. There is a need to address maternal and child health issues like low birth weight, malnutrition and high-risk pregnancy under the RMNCAH+N program through various effective interventions. This review presents the work carried out by the international community in the area of sheet explosive formulations and its applications in various systems. The sheet explosive is also named as PBXs and is a composite material in which solid explosive particles like RDX, HMX or PETN are dispersed in a polymeric matrix, forms a flexible material that can be rolled/cut into sheet form which can be applied to any complex contour. The designed sheet explosive must possess characteristic properties such as flexible, cuttable, water proof, easily initiable, and safe handling. The sheet explosives are being used for protecting tanks (ERA), light combat vehicle and futuristic infantry carrier vehicle from different attacking war heads etc. Besides, sheet explosives find wide applications in demolition of bridges, ships, cutting and metal cladding. This review also covers the aspects such as risks and hazard analysis during the processing of sheet explosive formulations, effect of ageing on sheet explosives, detection and analysis of sheet explosive ingredients and the R&D efforts of Indian researchers in the development of sheet explosive formulations. Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health problem and the situation has become more precarious due to the advent of HIV infections and continuous rise in the number of multi-drug resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb). Biochemical studies on Fatty Acyl-CoA Synthetases (FadD13), one of the gene products of mymA operon, have provided insights into the involvement of this protein in the activation of fatty acids. Due to non-availability of the crystal structure of FadD13, we have employed in silico approaches to resolve and characterize the structure of this important protein of M. tb. A three dimensional model of M. tb FadD13 was predicted by a de novo structure prediction server that integrates fragment assembly with SimFold energy function. With the aid of molecular mechanics and dynamics methods, the final model was obtained and assessed subsequently for global and local accuracy by various assessment programs. With this model, a flexible docking study with the substrates was performed. Results of ligand interactions with key amino acids in the binding site are also summarized. The molecular model for the M. tb FadD13 obtained sheds light on the topographical features of the binding pocket of the protein and provides atomic insight into the possible modes of substrate recognition. The three-dimensional model of FadD13 presented here would be helpful in guiding both enzymatic studies as well as design of specific inhibitors.
