Objetivos: evaluar el comportamiento de la lactancia materna y la alimentación complementaria en el Policlínico "Manuel Díaz Legrá" del municipio Holguín, así como su relación con el estado nutricional y la morbilidad por Infecciones Respiratorias y Diarreicas Agudas. Pacientes y Métodos: se realizó un estudio de una muestra de 67 niños menores de 1 año, nacidos entre enero-agosto del 2004. Se aplicó una encuesta a las madres de los niños en cada consulta, además se utilizaron las historias clínicas y la medición del peso al año de edad. Resultados: se constató que en la mayoría de los niños la lactancia materna, la alimentación complementaria y el estado nutricional fueron adecuados. En el grupo con lactancia materna inadecuada, el porcentaje de niños bajo peso fue superior en relación con los que lactaron adecuadamente, y además tuvieron una frecuencia mayor de infecciones respiratorias y diarreicas agudas. Conclusiones: la lactancia materna y la ablactación adecuada influyeron positivamente en el estado nutricional de los lactantes, así como en la protección ante diferentes enfermedades.Objectives: to evaluate the behavior of the breastfeeding and complementary diet in the "Manuel Diaz Legrá" Polyclinic in the Municipality of Holguin, as well as their relation with the nutritional state and the morbidity by respiratory infections and acute diarrheic diseases. Patients and Methods: a case study was carried out in 67 children under 1 year old, born between January-August 2004. A survey was applied to the mothers of infants in each consultation. Besides the medical histories and the measurement of the weight at 1 year old were used. Results: it was verified that in the most of infants the breastfeeding, complementary diet and nutritional condition were appropriate. In the group with inappropriate breastfeeding the percentage of low-weight infants was higher in relation to those who were breastfeed adequately and they had a higher frequency of respiratory infections and acute diarrheic diseases. Conclusions: the maternal nursing and the appropriate weaning influenced positively in the nutritional state of the infants, as well as in the protection before different illnesses.

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo para evaluar la respuesta al tratamiento con radioterapia en 218 pacientes con cáncer de mama, tratadas con cirugía conservadora en el Hospital Provincial V.I. Lenin de Holguín, en el período de enero 2000-enero 2004. Como fuente de datos se utilizaron las historias clínicas. El grupo etario con mayor frecuencia fue de 40 a 60 años y el carcinoma ductal infiltrante el tipo histológico más encontrado. La radiodermitis fue la complicación más frecuente a la radioterapia, y el mayor porciento de recidivas luego de este tratamiento fue a nivel del cuadrante de la cicatriz quirúrgica. El intervalo libre de la enfermedad fue mayor para las pacientes en los estadios 0 y I. Para alcanzar resultados superiores en el tratamiento de esta patología se recomienda un seguimiento continuo de las pacientes y fomentar acciones de promoción que contribuyan a un diagnóstico de la enfermedad en estadios incipientes.A descriptive-retrospective study was carried out to assess the response to radiotherapy treatment in 218 patients with breast cancer treated with conservative surgery in the Provintial Hospital "V.I. Lenin", Holguín, from January 2000 to January 2004. Medical records were used as data sources. The age group from 40 to 60 years had the highest frecuency. The histological type most frequently found was the infiltrating ductual carcionoma. Radiodermitis was the most frequent complication and the highest percentage of recidivism was at the quadrant level of the surgical scar. The disease-free interval was higher in patients in stages 0 and I. A continuous follow-up of patients and the increase of promotion actions for detecting the disease at early stages are recommended to achieve better results in the treatment of this pathology.
