Abstract

A tunable LNA filter using Q-enhanced inductors is designed in 0.25 μm BiCMOS Qubic4x technology. The design employs the inductor degenerated LNA, acting as a transconductance which converts the input voltage to output current which drives the second-order Q-enhanced filter. The filter also uses a special technique based on coupled-inductor negative resistance generator to make the quality factor and the center frequency tunable. The overall gain of the LNA filter is about 19.5 dB and the minimum noise figure is 6.4 dB. The center frequency is 942.5 MHz with a 42 MHz (3 dB) bandwidth.

Abstract

Future software-defined radios (SDRs) for modern wireless applications—e.g., 5G communications—could require reconfigurable RF analog circuits to enable multistandard/service operation with hardware miniaturization. In this context, a lumped-element multi-band bandpass filter concept is presented. This filter architecture consists of the in-series cascade of several multi-transmission-zero-(TZ)-generation cells that are shaped by a plurality of series-type resonant branches. It allows to synthesize multi-band transfer functions with arbitrary order and number of passbands with inter-band TZs. A theoretical analysis of the proposed multi-passband filter scheme is expounded. Also, its potential for fully-reconfigurable multi-band bandpass filter realization through TZ reallocation is studied at the ideal-design level.

Abstract

In this paper, an integrated RF differential channelized active bandpass filter is presented. The proposed filter architecture is implemented with two tunable bandpass N-path filters that are arranged in parallel to create one upper-stopband transmission zero that allows to increase the selectivity in the overall filtering transfer function. The channelized bandpass filter can be frequency tuned from 0.2 GHz to 1 GHz (i.e., 5-to-1 tuning range). The gain, noise figure (NF), and channel bandwidth of the filter are around 21 dB, 4.7 dB, and 6 MHz, respectively. The circuit has been designed with 0.25 μm BiCMOS process of NXP technology using Cadence SpectreRF circuit simulator.

Abstract

The H5 program with the complete rebuild of the guide system and the upgrade or renovation of all instruments leads to a tremendous increase of the instrument performances. The improvement was obtained both in terms of more useful flux and upgrade of the different instruments (e.g. higher field density for IN15). In addition, the industrial application instrument D50 offers an addition to the ILL instrument suite (see p. 27 in this issue). With the commissioning of the new spin echo spectrometer WASP in 2016, the H5 program will be completed and a considerable improvement for the ILL instrument park will be finalized.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: CDEUSSA is a Specific Support Action project from the Sixth Framework Programme Priority of the European Union (EU). Its aim is to bring together basic and applied research in the area of coeliac disease (CD). This paper reviews the main issues that are a result of the CDEUSSA initiative. AIM: To identify the major issues in need of investigation in the areas of clinical aspects, treatment, prevention and public health. METHODS: Key stakeholders, representing a wide range of knowledge with crucial importance for CD research and practice, have participated in two workshops aimed at identifying and proposing to the EU, as high priority research, topics in the areas of clinical aspects, treatment, prevention and public health. RESULTS: In public health, the overall goal should be to improve quality of life of the European population by implementing primary prevention strategies, early diagnosis and improved treatments for CD. New treatment strategies need to be developed. The option of primary prevention should be fully explored, which requires combined epidemiological, clinical and basic scientific research efforts. Such studies should also consider the importance of gene-environment interactions in the development of CD. Increased knowledge is needed on the natural history of CD. Diagnostic criteria need to be revised. CONCLUSIONS: To achieve these goals, a collaboration of the stakeholders is fundamental, including research and patient organizations, as well as industries within both diagnostics and food production.

Abstract

This article deals with the improvement of noise figure for microwave active recu rsive filters. We show, using a noise wave analysis [1], how the noise factor of a first-order recursive structure can he effectively minimized, by using appropriate unbalanced power dividers/combiners in association with an amplifier of given gain and noise factor values. We start from measured results of monolithic filters and validate our approach with simulated examples.

Abstract

This paper concerns active filters of the recursive type. A new design approach is presented which consists in a cascade association of unitary recursive cells in order to obtain higher-order filters and to achieve selective responses. The advantage of this approach resides in the study of simple structures (i.e. first-order recursive cells). This concept is then illustrated with an experimental active bandpass filter in the X-band. using MMIC technology.

Abstract

Two transformation systems, based on the use of CaCl2/PEG and Agrobacterium tumefaciens, respectively, were developed for the zygomycete Rhizopus oryzae. Irrespective of the selection marker used, a pyr4 marker derived from R. niveus or a dominant amdS+ marker from Aspergillus nidulans, and irrespective of the configuration of the transforming DNA (linear or circular), the transformants obtained with the CaCl2/PEG transformation method were found to carry multiple copies of tandemly linked vector molecules, which failed to integrate into the genomic DNA. Furthermore, these transformants displayed low mitotic stability. In contrast, transformants obtained by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation were mitotically stable, even under non-selective conditions. Detailed analysis of these transformants revealed that the transforming DNA had integrated into the genome of R. oryzae at a single locus in independently obtained transformants. In addition, truncation of the transforming DNA was observed, resulting in the integration of the R. niveus pyr4 marker gene, but not the second gene located on the transferred DNA. Modification of the transforming DNA, resulting in partial resistance to restriction enzyme digestion, was observed in transformants obtained with the CaCl2/PEG transformation method, suggesting that a specific genome defence mechanism may exist in R. oryzae. It is likely that the unique mechanism used by A. tumefaciens to deliver its transferred DNA to its hosts facilitates bypass of the host defence mechanisms, thus allowing the DNA to integrate into the chromosomal genome. © Springer-Verlag 2004.

Abstract

In this paper, new ranges of GaAs MMIC circuit applications at microwaves are presented with the development of original planar active filters in this technology. The first step is to improve intrinsic performances of planar microstrip resonators with the help of MMIC amplifier or negative resistance chips [1]. Finally, a novel active recursive structure is also demonstrated as an MMIC.
