Abstract

We present experimental measurements on Young's modulus and Gr\"{u}neisen parameter of multilayer graphene with varying number of layers using in situ bulge tests corroborated by atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Due to the experimental challenges posed by the significant disparity between intra and interlayer mechanical strengths, measuring conclusive elastic parameters are proven difficult. We analyze the results based on a new theoretical model together with first-principles calculations to elucidate the mechanism of thickness dependent incomplete strain transfer across the layers. Our findings indicate that the experimental elastic constants, which differ from intrinsic computed ones, have unavoidable limitations in reflecting ideal mechanical couplings between layers. Consequently, we propose a new mechanical modulus, free from effects of uncontrollable delamination of layers, derived by combining Gr\"{u}neisen parameter with Young's modulus., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Colonoscopic polypectomy is effective in decreasing the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC). Premalignant polyps discovered during colonoscopy are associated with the risk of metachronous advanced neoplasia. Postpolypectomy surveillance is the most important method for managing advanced metachronous neoplasia. A more efficient and evidence-based guideline for postpolypectomy surveillance is required because of the limited medical resources and concerns regarding colonoscopy complications. In these consensus guidelines, an analytic approach was used to address all reliable evidence to interpret the predictors of CRC or advanced neoplasia during surveillance colonoscopy. The key recommendations state that the high-risk findings for metachronous CRC following polypectomy are as follows: adenoma ≥10 mm in size; 3 to 5 (or more) adenomas; tubulovillous or villous adenoma; adenoma containing high-grade dysplasia; traditional serrated adenoma; sessile serrated lesion containing any grade of dysplasia; serrated polyp of at least 10 mm in size; and 3 to 5 (or more) sessile serrated lesions. More studies are needed to fully comprehend the patients who are most likely to benefit from surveillance colonoscopy and the ideal surveillance interval to prevent metachronous CRC.

16. Optimizing Muzzle Pattern Identification through Improved Pattern Recognition Techniques

Abstract

The global pet industry and market have been thriving in recent years, and the rise in pet population has led many countries to implement policies and systems for their management. The South Korean government has also introduced an animal registration system under the Animal Protection Act, but only about 37% of the country's pet population are registered in the system due to the inconvenient methods of registration. Biometric technology, in general, is used to identify individuals based on accurate object recognition. This paper applies Boosted Efficient Binary Local Image Descriptor (BEBLID) to the commonly-used ORB algorithm with the goal to improve the recognition and matching of muzzle pattern data and to derive the optimal value of the BEBLID scale coefficient (K) for muzzle pattern recognition. A total of 200 muzzle patterns were collected from dogs to use as the data for analysis. To demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method, the ORB algorithm was used as a benchmark. The matching rate achieved when BEBLID's K value was set to the default value of 1 was 76.24%, compared to the 66.82% matching rate of the ORB algorithm. Also, the optimal K was determined to be 0.75, achieving an 87% matching rate, after testing with variant K values from 0.25 to 2. Overall, this study demonstrates that by applying BEBLID to traditional ORB algorithms using the optimal scale coefficient value, the recognition and matching rate can be significantly improved. The commercialization and practical application of the muzzle pattern recognition technique proposed in this study is expected to contribute to improving the pet registration rate, which has been stagnant despite its necessity, and the management of pet populations.

17. Correlation between Surrogate Quality Indicators for Adenoma Detection Rate and Adenoma Miss Rate in Qualified Colonoscopy, CORE Study: KASID Multicenter Study.

Abstract

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The adenoma detection rate (ADR) does not reflect the complete detection of every adenoma during colonoscopy; thus, many surrogate indicators have been suggested. This study investigated whether the ADR and surrogate quality indicators reflect the adenoma miss rate (AMR) when performing qualified colonoscopy. METHODS: We performed a prospective, multicenter, cross-sectional study of asymptomatic examinees aged 50 to 75 years who underwent back-to-back screening colonoscopies by eight endoscopists. The ADR and surrogate quality indicators, including polyp detection rate, total number of adenomas per colonoscopy, additional adenomas found after the first adenoma per colonoscopy (ADR-Plus), and total number of adenomas per positive participant, were calculated for the prediction of AMR. RESULTS: A total of 371 back-to-back colonoscopies were performed. There was a significant difference in ADRs (range, 44% to 75.4%; p=0.024), polyp detection rates (range, 56% to 86.9%; p=0.008) and adenomas per positive participants (range, 1.19 to 2.30; p=0.038), and a tendency of a difference in adenomas per colonoscopy (range, 0.62 to 1.31; p=0.051) and ADR-Plus (range, 0.13 to 0.70; p=0.054) among the endoscopists. The overall AMR was 20.1%, and AMRs were not different (range, 13.9 to 28.6; p>0.05) among the endoscopists. No quality indicators were significantly correlated with AMR. Abstract

Engineering a strongly interacting uniform qubit cluster would be a major step towards realizing a scalable quantum system for quantum sensing, and a node-based qubit register. For a solid-state system that uses a defect as a qubit, various methods to precisely position defects have been developed, yet the large-scale fabrication of qubits within the strong coupling regime at room temperature continues to be a challenge. In this work, we generate nitrogen vacancy (NV) color centers in diamond with sub-10 nm scale precision by using a combination of nanoscale aperture arrays (NAAs) with a high aspect ratio of 10 and a secondary E-beam hole pattern used as an ion-blocking mask. We perform optical and spin measurements on a small cluster of NV spins and statistically investigate the effect of the NAAs during an ion-implantation process.
