A partir de todos los nacimientos ocurridos en el Uruguay entre 2002 y 2003 y las defunciones ocurridas en el primer año de vida, se estima la tasa de mortalidad infantil a través de modelos probit y hazard. Debido a que las muertes se concentran en los primeros días y semanas de vida, el modelo hazard es preferible al probit, encontrándose que la estimación probit sobreestima los efectos de las covariables. Los resultados muestran que las variables más importantes son la edad y la educación de la madre, los cuidados prenatales y los denominados predictores de la mortalidad (bajo peso al nacer, semanas de gestación y APGAR).

Haciendo uso de los datos de la Encuesta sobre Salud, Bienestar y Envejecimiento,este trabajo analiza el estado de salud de las personas mayores a 60 años en cinco países de América Latina: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, México y Uruguay. Empleando modelos probit ordenados fue posible investigar los efectos de variables socioeconómicas sobre el estado de salud auto-reportado. Los resultados indican que la autopercepción de la salud está relacionada positivamente con una buena nutrición, una mayor educación y un estilo de vida activo. Los individuos que se encuentran satisfechos con su ingreso actual reportaran, probablemente, una salud mejor. Se encontró, igualmente, que el nivel socioeconómico en las etapas iniciales de la vida influencia el estado de salud auto-reportado, lo cual tiene importantes implicaciones para la política de salud pública. Finalmente, la relación entre las variables socioeconómicas y la autopercepciónde la salud es consistente para los cinco países.

Using data from U.S. Major League Baseball, this article compares parametric and nonparametric Gini coefficients for each team and year. We employ a panel-data model to investigate the time-series and cross-sectional factors affecting the Gini coefficients and the parameters of the preselected distribution. We find that much of within-team income distribution is determined by time-related variables, with the 1994 MLB strike having an especially strong effect. A team's market potential does not seem to affect its salary distribution, but the average age of the players on a team's roster does. Because of corruption during the bid to host the 2022 World Cup, FIFA awarded the rights to the Qatar Football Association over the U.S. Soccer Federation. Economics studies Of European soccer show that, when a nation hosts a soccer mega-event, its Tier One professional soccer league has a signijicant boost in attendance in the years before and after that event. In prior articles, these authors applied those studies to argue that Major League Soccer could win and enforce a sizeable money judgment against the mastermind Of the corrupt 2022 bidding for lost profits and diminution in value related to the loss of a "World Cup bump" in attendance. Because of questions about the admissibility of econometric testimony that applies models of European soccer attendance to predict how American.fans would respond to a soccer mega-event, the authors gathered data about MLS and French Ligue 1 attendance in the years before and after the Copa America Centenario and European Championship, which in 2016 were hosted by the U.S. and France, respectively. Controlling for other factors that affect attendance, a statistical analysis reveals that the European Championship had a significant impact on Ligue 1 attendance both before and after the event while the Copa America had only a slight impact on MLS attendance before the event and none after.
