Weak radiative hyperon decays represent a rich interplay between weak interactions and the internal structure of baryons, offering profound insights into Quantum Chromodynamics and weak interactions. 2. A Light Yield Enhancement Method Using Wavelength Shifter for the STCF EMC

Abstract

Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF) is a next-generation high luminosity electron-positron collider facility and is currently one of the major options for accelerator-based particle physics experiment in China. The crystal-based electromagnetic calorimeter (EMC) with undoped CsI is a major sub-system of the STCF spectrometer. To fulfill the increasing physics requirements on measurement precision and the suffering of radiation, improving the detected light yield is an important task of STCF EMC R&D. This paper studies a "wavelength shifting in propagation" scheme for STCF EMC using the nanostructured organosilicon luminophore (NOL). The studies are performed by both Monte Carlo simulation and experimental tests. The light yield is proved to be improved by a factor of 1.59 in the experiment. Meanwhile, a study of the NOL's radiation hardness is carried out to verify the reliability of the NOL. No obvious degradation in the performance is observed with the total ionization does up to 100 krad, far beyond the total radiation dose of STCF with ten years of operation., Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures

Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are employed as mobile relay nodes to enable timely remote monitoring by collecting information from monitoring devices and transferring the collected information to base station. The freshness of delivered information is critical to system performance, which can be quantified by the concept of age of information (AoI). Nevertheless, the fresher information comes at the cost of higher energy consumption at UAVs. Considering the limited onboard energy, it is essential to strike a balance between the age of delivered information and the required energy budget. here, both straight trajectory and circular trajectory of UAV are considered, and study a problem with the goal of supporting timely data collection while minimizing the energy consumption at UAV. The problem is formulated as a multi‐criteria optimization problem by jointly considering the aging of collected information, the trajectory planning of UAV and energy consumption at UAV. To solve the formulated problem, a solution procedure to find a sequence of Pareto‐optimal points is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate the Pareto‐optimal curve, which yields the energy‐efficient UAV trajectory for timely data collection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The calcium looping (CL) gasification process is an attractive approach for synthetic natural gas (SNG) production from coal, with the elimination of energy-intensive air separation, water-gas shift, and CO2 removal units. This study is to provide an impartial assessment of the conventional SNG process and the innovative CL-SNG process based on process simulation using ASPEN Plus. The estimated coal to synthetic natural gas conversion efficiency of the CL-SNG process is nearly 64.2%. The amount of sour water needs to be further purified in the calcium looping process is 40% lower than that of the conventional process. Besides, the capital investment of the CL-SNG process is about 10.6% lower than the conventional process while the total annual operation cost in the CL-SNG plant is relatively high due to the progressive deactivation of CaO sorbents. The sensitivity analysis shows that the operating cost of the CL-SNG process could be further lowered with the improvement of CO2 sorbent performance. The formation of CaSO4 from the combustor could consume the syngas in the gasifier and reduce the SNG yield, and sulfur is suggested to be transformed to SO2 under mild reducing environment in the combustor in this study.

Abstract

The Super Tau-Charm Facility (STCF) is a significant initiative for accelerator-based particle physics in China. Electromagnetic Calorimeter (ECAL) is one of the important detectors of STCF, which is tasked with the accurate measurement of photons. STCF ECAL employs pure Cesium iodide (pCsI) as its scintillation crystal and uses a large-area avalanche photodiode (APD) as a photoelectric conversion device. High luminosity of STCF results in significant background levels, leading to pileups challenging conventional signal processing. In this paper, a pile-up correction algorithm called “pipeline optimal filtering” is proposed, and a background simulation platform is built to verify the measurement effect of the algorithm on energy and time.
