Abstract Purpose In this study, we aim to explore the efficacy of paxlovid on reducing mortality of COVID-19 patients in clinical setting, especially whether paxlovid modifies the risk of death in these severe and critical patients. Methods Our retrospective cohort study was conducted on the medical records of patients, consecutively admitted for COVID-19 to five hospitals in Chongqing, China from Dec 8, 2022 to Jan 20, 2023. Based on whether patients received paxlovid during their hospitalization, patients were grouped as paxlovid group and non-paxlovid group. We used 1:1 ratio propensity score matching (PSM) in our study to adjust for confounding factors and differences between groups. Statistical analysis were performed by SPSS 23.0. The differences in 28-day mortality between these two groups and its influencing factors were the main results we focused on. Results There were 1018 patients included in our study cohort. With 1:1 ratio PSM, each of the paxlovid group and non-paxlovid group included 237 patients. The results showed that patients using paxlovid have a lower 28-day mortality in overall population either before PSM (OR 0.594, 95% CI 0.385–0.917, p = 0.019) or after PSM (OR 0.458, 95% CI 0.272–0.774, p = 0.003) with multivariable adjusted logistic regression models. Meanwhile, in severe subgroup, it showed similar findings.With paxlovid treatment, it showed a significantly lower 28-day mortality in severe subgroup both before PSM (28% vs.41%, p = 0.008) and after PSM (19% vs.32%, p = 0.007). Conclusion Paxlovid can significantly reduce the risk of 28-day mortality in overall population and severe subgroup patients.This study distinguished the severe subgroup patients with COVID-19 who benefit more from paxlovid treatment.

Abstract Purpose Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most prevalent malignancies worldwide. Recently, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) has received extensive concern as an emerging target in antitumor therapy. However, the OXPHOS-involved underlying genes and clinical utilization in HCC remain worth exploring. The present research aimed to create an OXPHOS-relevant signature in HCC. Patients and methods In this study, the prognostic signature genes linked with OXPHOS were identified, and prognostic models were built using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) cox regression analysis. Furthermore, the combination study of immune microenvironment and signature genes looked into the involvement of immune cells in signature-based genes in HCC. Following that, chemotherapeutic drug sensitivity and immunotherapy analysis was implemented to predict clinical efficacy in HCC patients. Finally, clinical samples were collected to measure the expression of OXPHOS-related signature genes. Results Following a series of screens, six prognostic signature genes related with OXPHOS were identified: MRPS23, MPV17, MAPK3, IGF2BP2, CDK5, and IDH2, on which a risk model was built. The findings revealed a significant drop in the survival rate of HCC patients as their risk score increased. Meanwhile, independent prognostic study demonstrated that the risk score could accurately identify HCC patients. Immuno-microenvironmental correlation research suggested that the prognostic characteristics could serve as a reference index for both immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Finally, RT-qPCR exhibited a trend in signature gene expression that was consistent with the results. Conclusion In this study, a total of six prognostic genes associated with OXPHOS were selected and a prognostic model was constructed, providing an essential reference for the study of OXPHOS in HCC.

Introduction Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors of the digestive system. RNA methylation plays an important role in tumorigenesis and metastasis, which could alter gene expression and even function at multiple levels, such as RNA splicing, stability, translocation, and translation. In this study, we aimed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of RNA methylation-related genes (RMGs) in HCC and their relationship with survival and clinical features. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed using publicly available HCC-related datasets. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between HCC and controls were identified from TCGA-LlHC and intersected with RMGs to obtain differentially expressed RNA methylation-related genes (DERMGs). Regression analysis was used to screen for prognostic genes and construct risk models. Simultaneously, clinical, immune infiltration and therapeutic efficacy analyses were performed. Finally, multivariate cox regression was used to identify independent risk factors, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to validate the expression levels of the core genes of the model. Results A 21-gene risk model for HCC was established with excellent performance based on ROC curves and survival analysis. Risk scores correlated with tumor grade, pathologic T, and TNM stage. Immune infiltration analysis showed correlations with immune scores, 11 immune cells, and 30 immune checkpoints. Low-risk patients showed a higher susceptibility to immunotherapy. The risk score and TNM stage were independent prognostic factors. qRT-PCR confirmed higher expression of PRDM9, ALPP, and GAD1 in HCC. Conclusions This study identified RNA methylation-related signature genes in HCC and constructed a risk model that predicts patient outcomes and reflects the immune microenvironment. Prognostic genes are involved in complex regulatory mechanisms, which may be useful for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy.

Athletes of skill-oriented sports (hereinafter referred to as “skilled athletes”), such as gymnasts and rhythmic gymnasts, have demonstrated better postural control than nonathletes. However, previous studies have mainly focused on single postural tasks and have not considered how skilled athletes use and allocate attentional resources during postural control. This research used the event-related potential (ERP) to explore the postural control performance of skilled athletes under cognitive processes and their utilization and allocation of attentional resources. A dual-task paradigm was used to simulate the actual situation in sports. 26 skilled athletes and 26 nonathletes were required to perform postural control and task-switching simultaneously. The results showed that skilled athletes demonstrated more postural control stability and a higher accuracy of task-switching than nonathletes in all dual tasks. Compared with nonathletes, they showed a stable enhanced N1 (electrodes: Oz, O1, and O2) amplitude during three postures. Moreover, larger N2 component on Fz, FCz, and Cz and theta band power was found in the frontal cortex (on Fz, FCz) of skilled athletes under feet together and single leg standing posture. The study illustrated that skilled athletes show greater frontal activation during dual tasks, which allows for more rational and flexible brain attentional resource input and allocation in cognitive processes, this may be due to long-term professional training, which enables them to have a higher level of automation of postural control and cognitive flexibility. This study’s results offer valuable insights into the interplay between postural control and multitasking in skilled athletes, and its outcomes carry significant implications for the training and assessment of athletes across various sports.

Introduction: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is renowned for its holistic treatment approach and minimal side effects. Luteolin (LUT) and Quercetin (QUE) each possess notable anticancer properties. This study is the first to elucidate the synergistic anticancer activity of the combination of LUT and QUE (LUT+QUE) against lung cancer. Methods: The synergistic anticancer activity of QUE+LUT was evaluated through the combination index (CI) value by varying the concentrations of QUE and LUT. Network pharmacology analysis was then employed to identify the key targets and crucial signaling pathways for QUE and LUT. Finally, the synergistic anticancer mechanisms of QUE+LUT were elucidated by verifying these core targets and pathways through various experiments, including apoptosis assays, migration assays, ELISA, Western blot and reactive oxygen species (ROS) assays. Results: The key targets identify through network pharmacology analysis include BCL2L1, MMP9, JUN, PTGS2, TP53, AKT1 and CASP3. The crucial pathways are the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and chemically-induce carcinogenic ROS pathways. Cellular experiments demonstrate that QUE+LUT synergistically induce apoptosis, inhibit cell proliferation, migration and invasion, increase ROS levels and regulate the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, effectively targeting lung cancer cells. Discussion: The combined therapy of QUE and LUT holds potential as an effective treatment for cancer patients, providing valuable insights for the selection and mechanistic exploration of important anticancer drugs.

Introduction: Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) astrocytopathy is a novel autoimmune neurological disorder and is diagnosed by GFAP-IgG in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) measurement. Case report: Herein, we described a 10-year-old boy with abnormal neurological symptoms and signs. GFAP-IgG was detected in CSF using cell-based assay (CBA), and his CSF showed an increase in lymphocytes, a slight decrease in glucose and an increase in protein level in the early stage. The cranial MRI showed multiple strips of T2-FLAIR hyperintense signal changes on the surface of medulla oblongata, pons, and gyrus in bilateral cerebral hemispheres. He was treated with immunoglobulin (IVIG) and high-dose methylprednisolone pulse treatment, and his clinical presentations gradually improved. Conclusion: We highlight that patients with normal inflammatory markers in peripheral blood have obvious meningitis-like symptoms, and clinicians need to consider GFAP astrocytopathy. The early diagnosis and treatment of GFAP astrocytopathy are important for improving the prognosis.

Abstract Electroreduction of CO2 to valuable multicarbon (C2+) products is a highly attractive way to utilize and divert emitted CO2. However, a major fraction of C2+ selectivity is confined to less than 90% by the difficulty of coupling C-C bonds efficiently. Herein, we identify the stable Cu0/Cu2+ interfaces derived from copper phosphate-based (CuPO) electrocatalysts, which can facilitate C2+ production with a low-energy pathway of OC-CHO coupling verified by in situ spectra studies and theoretical calculations. The CuPO precatalyst shows a high Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 69.7% towards C2H4 in an H-cell, and exhibits a significant FEC2+ of 90.9% under industrially relevant current density (j = −350 mA cm−2) in a flow cell configuration. The stable Cu0/Cu2+ interface breaks new ground for the structural design of electrocatalysts and the construction of synergistic active sites to improve the activity and selectivity of valuable C2+ products.

Abstract The dynamic multi-objective optimization problem is a common problem in real life, which is characterized by conflicting objectives, the Pareto frontier (PF) and Pareto solution set (PS) will follow the changing environment. There are various dynamic multi-objective algorithms have been suggested to solve such problems, but most of the methods suffer from the inability to balance the diversity of populations with convergence. Prediction based method is a common approach to solve dynamic multi-objective optimization problems, but such methods only search for probabilistic models of optimal values of decision variables and do not consider whether the decision variables are related to diversity and convergence. Consequently, we present a prediction method based on the classification of decision variables for dynamic multi-objective optimization (DVC), where the decision variables are first pre-classified in the static phase, and then new variables are adjusted and predicted to adapt to the environmental changes. Compared with other advanced prediction strategies, dynamic multi-objective prediction methods based on classification of decision variables are more capable of balancing population diversity and convergence. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm DVC can effectively handle DMOPs.

As an important part of urban vitality, street vitality is an external manifestation of street economic prosperity and is affected by the built environment and the surrounding street vitality. However, existing research on the formation mechanism of street vitality focuses only on the built environment itself, ignoring the spatial spillover effect on street vitality. This study uses 5290 street segments in Shenzhen as examples. Utilizing geospatial and other multisource big data, this study creates spatial weight matrices at varying distances based on different living circle ranges. By combining the panel threshold model (PTM) and the spatial panel Durbin model (SPDM), this study constructs a spatial autoregressive threshold model to explore the spatial nonlinear effects of street vitality, considering various spatial weight matrices and thresholds of construction intensity and functional diversity. Our results show the following: (1) Street vitality exhibits significant spatial spillover effects, which gradually weaken as the living circle range expands (Moran indices are 0.178***, 0.160***, and 0.145*** for the 500 m, 1000 m, and 1500 m spatial weight matrices, respectively). (2) Construction intensity has a threshold, which is 0.1466 under spatial matrices of different distances. Functional diversity has two thresholds: 0.6832 and 2.2065 for the 500 m spatial weight matrix, and 0.6832 and 1.4325 for the 1000 m matrices, and 0.6832 and 1.2724 for 1500 m matrices. (3) As an international metropolis, street accessibility in Shenzhen has a significant and strong positive impact on its street vitality. This conclusion provides stakeholders with spatial patterns that influence street vitality, offering a theoretical foundation to further break down barriers to street vitality.

Abstract Objective Vitamin D deficiency is a risk factor for Parkinson's disease (PD) and vitamin D supplementation robustly alleviates neurodegeneration in PD models. However, the mechanisms underlying this effect require further clarification. Current evidence suggests that harnessing regulatory T cells (Treg) may mitigate neuronal degeneration. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effects of vitamin D receptor activation by calcitriol on PD, specifically focusing on its role in Treg. Methods Hemiparkinsonian mice model was established through the injection of 6‐OHDA into the striatum. Mice were pretreated with calcitriol before 6‐OHDA injection. The motor performance, dopaminergic neuronal survival, contents of dopamine, and dopamine metabolites were evaluated. The pro‐inflammatory cytokines levels, T‐cell infiltration, mRNA expression of indicated microglial M1/M2 phenotypic markers, and microglial marker in the midbrain were detected. Populations of Treg in the splenic tissues were assessed using a flow cytometry assay. PC61 monoclonal antibody was applied to deplete Treg in vivo. Results We show that calcitriol supplementation notably improved motor performance and reduced dopaminergic degeneration in the 6‐OHDA‐induced PD model. Mechanistically, calcitriol promoted anti‐inflammatory/neuroprotective Treg and inhibited pro‐inflammatory/neurodestructive effector T‐cell generation in this model. This process significantly inhibited T‐cell infiltration in the midbrain, restrained microglial activation, microglial M1 polarization, and decreased pro‐inflammatory cytokines release. This more favorable inflammatory microenvironment rescued dopaminergic degeneration. To further verify that the anti‐inflammatory effects of calcitriol are associated with Treg expansion, we applied an antibody‐mediated Treg depletion assay. As predicted, the anti‐inflammatory effects of calcitriol in the PD model were diminished following Treg depletion. Conclusion These findings suggest that calcitriol's anti‐inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in PD are associated with its potential to boost Treg expansion.

Our study investigated the effects of dietary arginine supplementation on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, intestinal digestive enzyme activity, muscle transcriptome, and gut health of Chinese perch (Siniperca chuatsi). Four isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets (50% crude protein, 11% crude lipid) with graded levels (2.61%, 2.99%, 3.37%, and 3.82%) of arginine were formulated and processed. A total of 360 Chinese perch (approximately 45–46 g) were randomly divided into four groups with triplicates of 30 fish per cage in each group. Our results revealed that although there was no significant improvement in the growth performance of Chinese perch, their antioxidant capacity and nutritional metabolism were significantly improved. Compared to the control group (without arginine supplementation, 2.61% group), feeding graded arginine levels could significantly (P < 0.05) decrease serum glucose and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, as well as increase total superoxide dismutase (TSOD) activity. Fish fed a 3.37% arginine diet had the highest TSOD activity in the serum and liver. The intestinal morphological structure was clearer and more uniform in the 2.99% and 3.37% arginine groups. Fish fed with 3.82% arginine had significantly decreased (P < 0.05) muscle valine, glutamate, tyrosine, and total non-essential amino acid contents, with decreased (P < 0.05) intestinal amylase activity. Transcriptome analysis showed that graded arginine levels significantly (P < 0.05) influenced muscle gene expression involved in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways of energy metabolism (amino acid, glucose, fatty acid), signaling pathways (mTOR, PI3K-Akt, MAPK, foxO, and insulin pathway), etc. The microbial community structure did not change significantly. Mycoplasma showed the highest abundance in the control group, and Cetobacterium had the highest abundance in the dietary arginine supplementation groups. Network analysis showed that the network complexity of the control group was higher than those of arginine groups. Our finding would help advance the field of arginine nutrition and guide the development of future fish feeds. Based on antioxidant and intestinal health indicators, the optimal dietary arginine requirement for Chinese perch was 2.99%–3.37% of the dry diet (6.08%–6.79% of dietary protein).

To better utilise the service capacity of the limited facilities of a metro station, as well as ensure safety and transport efficiency during peak hours, a large passenger flow control plan is studied through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. Firstly, by passenger data collection and data analysis, the characteristics of the inbound and outbound passenger flow of a T metro station are analysed. Secondly, AnyLogic evacuation simulation models for the T Station during peak hours, peak hours without/with passenger flow control are established based on real passenger flow data as well as the station structures and layouts by using the AnyLogic software. The results show that there are no obvious congestions in the station hall, and the travel delay is significantly reduced when effective passenger flow control measures are taken. By controlling the speed, direction and movement path of passengers, as well as adjusting the operation of escalators, entrances and automatic ticket-checking machines, passenger flow can become more orderly, transport efficiency can also be improved, and congestion in the station can be well mitigated.

Abstract The precipitation oxygen isotopic composition is a useful environmental tracer for climatic and hydrological studies. However, accurate and high-resolution precipitation oxygen isoscapes are currently lacking in China. In this study, a precipitation oxygen isoscape in China for a period of 148 years is built by integrating observed and iGCMs-simulated isotope compositions using an optimal hybrid approach of three data fusion and two bias correction methods. The temporal and spatial resolutions of the isoscape are monthly and 50–60 km, respectively. Results show that the Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) fusion method performs the best (correlation coefficient larger than 0.95 and root mean square error smaller than 1‰), and the other two data fusion methods perform slightly better than the bias correction methods. Thus, the isoscape is generated by using the CNN fusion method for the common 1969–2007 period and by using the bias correction methods for remaining years. The generated isoscape, which shows similar spatio-temporal distributions to observations, is reliable and useful for providing strong support for tracking atmospheric and hydrological processes.

Abstract Single Image Super‐Resolution algorithms have made enormous progress in recent years. However, many previous Convolution Neural Network (CNN) based Super‐Resolution algorithms only stack uniform convolution layers of fixed kernel size, and frequently ignore inherent multi‐scale properties of the images, resulting in unsatisfactory reconstruction results. Here, a multi‐feature fusion attention network (MFFAN) is proposed for capturing information at diverse scales. MFFAN is composed of multiple efficient sparse residual group (ESRG) modules. Several multi‐scale feature fusion blocks (MSFFB) are constructed using a cascade manner in each ESRG module and it is capable of exploiting various cross scales information. Subsequently, a local‐global spatial attention block (LGSAB) is inserted at the tail of the ESRG module for further improving the interaction of inter‐pixel, which strengths essential features and suppresses irrelevant information. Additionally, owing to the fact that only feeding final output into the reconstruction layer has exacerbated the long‐range dependency problems, an enhanced hierarchy feature fusion block (EHFFB) is designed to fuse low‐level information and high‐level semantic information. Experiment results indicate that the proposed MFFAN is competitive in comparison to several state‐of‐the‐art algorithms.

Electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2RR) over molecular catalysts is a paramount approach for CO2 conversion to CO. Herein, we report a novel phthalocyanine-derived catalyst synthesized by a two-step method with a much improved electroconductivity. Furthermore, the catalyst contains both Ni–N4 sites and highly dispersed metallic Ni nanoclusters, leading to an increased CO2RR currents by two folds. Isotope labelling study and in situ spectroscopic analysis demonstrate that the existence of metallic Ni nanoclusters is the key factor for the activity enhancement and can shift the CO2RR mechanism from being electron transfer (ET)-limited (forming ∗COO−) to concerted proton-electron transfer (CPET)-limited (forming CO).

Abstract Practical electrochemical CO2-to-CO conversion requires a non-precious catalyst to react at high selectivity and high rate. Atomically dispersed, coordinatively unsaturated metal-nitrogen sites have shown great performance in CO2 electroreduction; however, their controllable and large-scale fabrication still remains a challenge. Herein, we report a general method to fabricate coordinatively unsaturated metal-nitrogen sites doped within carbon nanotubes, among which cobalt single-atom catalysts can mediate efficient CO2-to-CO formation in a membrane flow configuration, achieving a current density of 200 mA cm−2 with CO selectivity of 95.4% and high full-cell energy efficiency of 54.1%, outperforming most of CO2-to-CO conversion electrolyzers. By expanding the cell area to 100 cm2, this catalyst sustains a high-current electrolysis at 10 A with 86.8% CO selectivity and the single-pass conversion can reach 40.4% at a high CO2 flow rate of 150 sccm. This fabrication method can be scaled up with negligible decay in CO2-to-CO activity. In situ spectroscopy and theoretical results reveal the crucial role of coordinatively unsaturated metal-nitrogen sites, which facilitate CO2 adsorption and key *COOH intermediate formation.

Recently, with the rise and progress of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), CNN-based remote-sensing image super-resolution (RSSR) methods have gained considerable advancement and showed great power for image reconstruction tasks. However, most of these methods cannot handle well the enormous number of objects with different scales contained in remote-sensing images and thus limits super-resolution performance. To address these issues, we propose a multiscale fast Fourier transform (FFT) based attention network (MSFFTAN), which employs a multiinput U-shape structure as backbone for accurate RSSR. Specifically, we carefully design an FFT-based residual block consisting of an image domain branch and a Fourier domain branch to extract local details and global structures simultaneously. In addition, a local–global channel attention block is developed to further enhance the reconstruction ability of small targets. Finally, we present a branch gated selective block to adaptively explore and aggregate features from multiple scales and depths. Extensive experiments on two public datasets have demonstrated the superiority of MSFFTAN over the state-of-the-art (SOAT) approaches in aspects of both quantitative metrics and visual quality. The peak signal-to-noise ratio of our network is 1.5 dB higher than the SOAT method on the UCMerced LandUse with downscaling factor 2.

Background: Olfactory impairment has been reported in patients with depression and in rodent models of depression. Olfactory epithelium (OE) is the only peripheral neural tissue connected to the brain that has the potential for self-renewal. We hypothesized the olfactory deficit during depression may be related to the dysfunction of OE progenitor cells. The aim of the present study was therefore to evaluate the expansion and neuronal differentiation potency of cultured OE progenitor cells obtained from a rat model of depression. Methods: Rats were exposed to chronic unpredictable mild stress procedures to establish a depressive-like state. Depressive-like behavior and olfactory sensing function were then evaluated and compared with control rats. Primary OE progenitor cells were cultured in vitro. The proliferation potency and survival of OE progenitor cells were assessed by 5-Ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine staining and Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8), respectively, while cellular apoptosis was measured by flow cytometry. The neuronal differentiation potency of OE progenitor cells was evaluated by measurement of the protein and mRNA level of β-3 tubulin, a marker of neural cells. mRNA expression associated with neural stemness was examined by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Depressive-like rats showed decreased olfactory function. OE progenitor cells from depressive-like rats showed reduced cell proliferation/survival and neuronal differentiation potency. Moreover, OE progenitor cells from depressive-like rats showed decreased expression of mRNA related to neural stemness. Conclusions: These results indicate the impaired function of OE progenitor cells may contribute to the olfactory deficit observed during depression. The OE may therefore provide a window for the study of depression.

Background: Microglia-mediated neuroinflammation is a hallmark of neurodegeneration. Metabotropic glutamate receptor 8 (GRM8) has been reported to promote neuronal survival in neurodegenerative diseases, yet the effect of GRM8 on neuroinflammation is still unclear. Calcium overload-induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondrial miscommunication has been reported to trigger neuroinflammation in the brain. The aim of this study was to investigate putative anti-inflammatory effects of GRM8 in microglia, specifically focusing on its role in calcium overload-induced ER stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Methods: BV2 microglial cells were pretreated with GRM8 agonist prior to lipopolysaccharide administration. Pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and the microglial polarization state in BV2 cells were then quantified. Cellular apoptosis and the viability of neuron-like PC12 cells co-cultured with BV2 cells were examined using flow cytometry and a Cell Counting Kit-8, respectively. The concentration of cAMP, inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate receptor (IP3R)-dependent calcium release, ER Ca2+ concentration, mitochondrial function as reflected by reactive oxygen species levels, ATP production, mitochondrial membrane potential, expression of ER stress-sensing protein, and phosphorylation of the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) p65 subunit were also quantified in BV2 cells. Results: GRM8 activation inhibited pro-inflammatory cytokine release and shifted microglia polarization towards an anti-inflammatory-like phenotype in BV2 cells, as well as promoting neuron-like PC12 cell survival when co-cultured with BV2 cells. Mechanistically, microglial GRM8 activation significantly inhibited cAMP production, thereby desensitizing the IP3R located within the ER. This process markedly limited IP3R-dependent calcium release, thus restoring mitochondrial function while inhibiting ER stress and subsequently deactivating NF-κB signaling. Conclusions: Our results indicate that GRM8 activation can protect against microglia-mediated neuroinflammation by attenuating ER stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, and that IP3R-mediated calcium signaling may play a vital role in this process. ObjectivePostural control plays a key role in skill-oriented sports. Athletes of skill-oriented sports (hereinafter referred to as “skilled athletes”) usually showed better control ability compared with non-athletes. However, research focused on the single postural task, rarely considering the actual situation in skill-oriented sports in which other processes, such as cognitive control, frequently accompany postural control. This study aims to explore how skilled athletes control their posture under the dual-task situation and use limited attentional resources.MethodA total of 26 skilled athletes and 26 non-athletes were required to perform the postural control and N-back tasks simultaneously. Center of pressure (COP) trajectory, reaction times (RTs), and discriminability (d′) of N-back tasks were recorded and evaluated, along with event-related potentials, including N1 (Oz, PO7, and PO8), P2 (Fz, FCz, Cz, and Pz) components, and the spectral power of alpha band.ResultsSkilled athletes demonstrated more postural control stability and a higher d′ than non-athletes in all dual tasks. Besides, they showed enhanced N1, P2 amplitudes and reduced alpha band power during dual-tasking. Notably, in skilled athletes, a significant negative correlation between N1 amplitude and d′ was observed, while significant positive correlations between alpha band power and postural control performance were also identified.ConclusionThis study investigates the potential advantages of skilled athletes in postural control from the view of neuroscience. Compared to non-athletes, skilled athletes could decrease the consumption of attentional resources in postural control and recruit more attentional resources in stimulus discrimination and evaluation in cognitive tasks. Since the allocation of attentional resources plays a crucial part in postural control in skilled athletes, optimizing the postural control training program and the selection of skilled athletes from a dual-task perspective is important.

To discuss the circumferential diffusion characteristics of the fuel vapor and combustion performance, a 15 kW pressurized burner fueled by diesel is first proposed in this research. And then, combustion experiments and cool-state numerical simulations are conducted at different pressures (P) and thermal loads (Q). The ratio (F) of the aerodynamic to buoyancy forces and the circumferential diffusion uniformity (σ) of the fuel vapor are constructed through pollutant emissions, fuel vapor concentration distribution and velocity field. The results show that under a Q of 3.55 kW, the burner has a relatively low F, and the buoyancy force has a more obvious effect as P increases, further causing circumferential fuel vapor distribution uniformity to suffer. When the burner operates at a Q of 10.64 kW, the undesired circumferential diffusion uniformity of the fuel vapor is only found at 0.3 MPa. For a Q of 15.37 kW, the fuel vapor has a great circumferential diffusion uniformity in the forward end of the liner at each P. A proper F of 89–278 and σ of 0–3.6% are recommended for diesel vapor circumferential diffusion and pollutant emissions, in which the buoyancy force has a relatively lower effect than the aerodynamic force.

Objectives: The objective of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum Cystatin C in acute kidney injury (AKI) in neonates. Sources: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and WanFang Database were searched to retrieve the literature related to the diagnostic value of Cystatin C for neonatal AKI from inception to May 10, 2021. Subsequently, the quality of included studies was determined using the QUADAS-2 tool. Stata 15.0 statistical software was used to calculate the combined sensitivity (SEN), specificity (SPE), positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR). Additionally, meta-regression analysis and subgroup analysis contributed to explore the sources of heterogeneity. Summary of the findings: Twelve articles were included. The pooled sensitivity was 0.84 (95%CI: 0.74-0.91), the pooled specificity was 0.81 (95%CI: 0.75-0.86), the pooled PLR was 4.39 (95%CI: 3.23-5.97), the pooled NLR was 0.19 (95%CI: 0.11-0.34), and the DOR was 22.58 (95%CI: 10.44-48.83). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.88 (95%CI: 0.85-0.90). No significant publication bias was identified (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Serum Cystatin C has a good performance in predicting neonatal AKI; therefore, it can be used as a candidate biomarker after the optimal level is determined by large prospective studies.

Abstract Background Cervical extension and flexion are presumably harmful to patients with degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) because they worsen medullary compression visible on dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dynamic somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) are an objective tool to measure the electrophysiological function of the spinal cord at different neck positions. In contrast to previous hypotheses, a considerable proportion of patients with DCM present improved SSEPs upon extension and flexion compared to a neutral position. Methods Patients with DCM who underwent preoperative dynamic SSEP examinations and subsequent decompression surgeries between 2015 and 2019 were retrospectively evaluated. We compared extension and flexion SSEPs with neutral SSEPs in each patient and classified them into extension-improved (EI) or extension-nonimproved (EN) and flexion-improved (FI) or flexion-nonimproved (FN) groups. Preoperative clinical evaluations, decompression surgical methods and one-year follow-up clinical data were recorded. Cervical spondylolisthesis and cervical alignment types were evaluated on plain cervical lateral radiographs. The number of stenotic segments, Mühle stenosis grade and disc degeneration stage of the most severe segment, and presence of ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and intramedullary T2 weighted imaging (T2WI) hyperintensity were evaluated on lateral and axial MRI. Data were compared between the EN and EN groups or FI and FN groups with T-tests, chi-square tests or Kruskal-Wallis tests. Prediction criteria were determined with logistic regression analyses. Results Forty-nine patients were included, and 9 (18.4%) and 11 (22.4%) showed improved extension and flexion SSEPs compared to their own neutral SSEPs, respectively. BackgroundThe risk factors for acute heart failure (AHF) vary, reducing the accuracy and convenience of AHF prediction. The most common causes of AHF are coronary heart disease (CHD). A short-term clinical predictive model is needed to predict the outcome of AHF, which can help guide early therapeutic intervention. This study aimed to develop a clinical predictive model for 1-year prognosis in CHD patients combined with AHF.Materials and methodsA retrospective analysis was performed on data of 692 patients CHD combined with AHF admitted between January 2020 and December 2020 at a single center. After systemic treatment, patients were discharged and followed up for 1-year for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). The clinical characteristics of all patients were collected. Patients were randomly divided into the training (n = 484) and validation cohort (n = 208). Step-wise regression using the Akaike information criterion was performed to select predictors associated with 1-year MACE prognosis. A clinical predictive model was constructed based on the selected predictors. The predictive performance and discriminative ability of the predictive model were determined using the area under the curve, calibration curve, and clinical usefulness.ResultsOn step-wise regression analysis of the training cohort, predictors for MACE of CHD patients combined with AHF were diabetes, NYHA ≥ 3, HF history, Hcy, Lp-PLA2, and NT-proBNP, which were incorporated into the predictive model. The AUC of the predictive model was 0.847 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.811–0.882] in the training cohort and 0.839 (95% CI: 0.780–0.893) in the validation cohort. The calibration curve indicated good agreement between prediction by nomogram and actual observation. Decision curve analysis showed that the nomogram was clinically useful.ConclusionThe proposed clinical prediction model we have established is effective, which can accurately predict the occurrence of early MACE in CHD patients combined with AHF.

Abstract Objective To explore the relationship between ERCC1 rs11615 polymorphism and chemosensitivity to platinum drugs in ovarian cancer by the method of meta-analysis. Methods Pubmed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and China Wanfang databases were comprehensively searched up to September 2020, to identify the relationship between ERCC1 rs11615 polymorphism and chemosensitivity of ovarian cancer. The data was analyzed by Stata 15.0 statistic software. Results A total of 10 published papers were included, including 1866 patients with ovarian cancer. The results showed that compared allele C at ERCC1 rs11615 locus with allele T, the pooled OR was 0.92 (95%CI:0.68 ~ 1.24, P > 0.05). There were no significant differences in recessive, dominant, homozygous, and heterozygous models. In accordance with a subgroup analysis of Ethnicity, all genotypes were statistically significant in the Asian population. In the allelic, dominant, recessive, homozygous and heterozygous models, the OR was 0.70 (95%CI:0.51 ~ 0.95), 0.20 (95%CI:0.07 ~ 0.56), 0.79 (95%CI:0.63 ~ 1.00), 0.21 (95%CI:0.07 ~ 0.59), 0.19 (95%CI:0.07 ~ 0.54), respectively, while in the Caucasian population, no statistically significant genotype was found. Conclusion The ERCC1 rs11615 polymorphism is associated with chemosensitivity in patients with ovarian cancer, especially in the Asian population, but not in the Caucasian population.

Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is one of the leading causes of progressive spinal cord dysfunction in the elderly. Early diagnosis and treatment of DCM are essential to avoid permanent disability. The pathophysiology of DCM includes chronic ischemia, destruction of the blood–spinal cord barrier, demyelination, and neuronal apoptosis. Electrophysiological studies including electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction study (NCS), motor evoked potentials (MEPs) and somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) are useful in detecting the presymptomatic pathological changes of the spinal cord, and thus supplementing the early clinical and radiographic examinations in the management of DCM. Preoperatively, they are helpful in detecting DCM and ruling out other diseases, assessing the spinal cord compression level and severity, predicting short- and long-term prognosis, and thus deciding the treatment methods. Intra- and postoperatively, they are also useful in monitoring neurological function change during surgeries and disease progression during follow-up rehabilitation. Here, we reviewed articles from 1979 to 2021, and tried to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based review of electrophysiological examinations in DCM. With this review, we aim to equip spinal surgeons with the basic knowledge to diagnosis and treat DCM using ancillary electrophysiological tests.

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common high-mortality cancer, mainly due to diagnostic difficulties during its early clinical stages. In this study, we aimed to identify genes that are important for HCC diagnosis and treatment, and we investigated the underlying mechanism of prognostic differences. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by using the limma package, and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to identify diagnostic markers for HCC. Bioinformatics and clinical specimens were used to assess epithelial cell transforming 2 (ECT2) in terms of expression, prognostic value, pathways, and immune correlations. In vitro experiments were used to investigate the underlying mechanism and function of ECT2, and the results were confirmed through in vivo experiments. The integrated analysis revealed 53 upregulated DEGs, and one candidate biomarker for diagnosis (ECT2) was detected. High expression of ECT2 was found to be an independent prognostic risk factor for HCC. ECT2 expression showed a strong correlation with tumor-associated macrophages. We found that ECT2 overexpression increased the migration and proliferation of HCC cells. It also promoted the expression of PLK1, which subsequently interacted with PTEN and interfered with its nuclear translocation, ultimately enhancing aerobic glycolysis and promoting M2 macrophage polarization. M2 macrophages suppress the functions of NK cells and T cells, and this was confirmed in the in vivo experiments. Overall, ECT2 may promote the polarization of M2 macrophages by enhancing aerobic glycolysis and suppressing the functions of immune cells. ECT2 could serve as a candidate diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for HCC.

The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of a formulated diet to replace live baits as feed for Siniperca chuatsi. A 2 × 2 factorial design with three replicates was used to investigate the effects of conventional live baits (LB) and a formulated diet (FD) on the growth, muscle nutrition composition, and digestive enzyme activities of S. chuatsi at two growth stages. The results showed that the feed conversion ratio (FCR) in the FD group was significantly lower than that in the LB group. The final body weight (FBW) and weight gain (WG) were not significantly different between the two feeding modes. However, at the juvenile stage, the specific growth rate (SGR) in the FD group was significantly lower than that in the LB group. Muscle moisture, crude protein, and crude lipid contents were not influenced by dietary treatments. There were no significant differences in ∑EAA, ∑NEAA, and ∑AA compositions of the juvenile and adult stages fed the two kinds of diets. At the juvenile stage, histidine (His) content in the FD group was significantly higher than that in the LB group; at the adult stage, cysteine (Cys) content in the FD group was significantly higher than that in the LB group; at both growth stages, Met content in the FD group was significantly lower than that in the LB group. The FD group showed higher levels of ∑SFA, ∑HUFA, ∑n-3PUFA, n-3/n-6, EPA, and DHA than the LB group did, whilst the opposite occurred in the MUFA levels. In addition, fish fed with LB had significantly higher values of pepsin and intestinal trypsin activities in the juvenile fish compared to the FD group, but the activities were not significantly different between the two feeding modes at the adult stage. The activities of stomach and intestine amylase in the FD group were significantly higher than those in the LB group. Overall, these results showed that under long-term feeding conditions, S. chuatsi fed with the artificial diet had no significant difference in muscle crude protein, crude lipid, amino acid composition, and digestive capacity, but showed superiority in the composition of fatty acids such as EPA and DHA levels compared to the live baits group. Therefore, the artificially formulated diet might be a more appropriate feeding approach for sustainable development of the S. chuatsi industry.

Abstract Background Dynamic somatosensory evoked potentials (DSSEP) can be used to disclose abnormalities of ascending sensory pathways at dynamic positions and diagnose cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). However, radiographic tests including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and dynamic X-ray are used much more widely in the management of CSM. Our study aims to clarify the correlations between several radiographic parameters and the DSSEP results, and further determine their reliability with clinical data. Methods We retrospectively enrolled 38 CSM patients with surgical intervention. DSSEP tests were performed before surgery. Amplitude ratios of DSSEP N13 and N20 waves at extension and flexion were calculated and recorded as N13_E, N20_E, N13_F, N20_F, respectively. Baseline severity was evaluated with the modified Japanese Orthopedic Association (mJOA) score and the Nurick grades. Prognosis was evaluated based on the 2-year recovery rate. Sagittal diameter and transverse areas of the cord and canal were measured and the the compressive ratios at the compressed site (Compression_Ratio), central (Central_Ratio), and 1/4-lateral points (1/4-Lateral_Compression_Ratio), and spinal cord/Canal Area Ratio were calculated. The intramedullary T2 hyperintensity patterns (Ax-CCM types) were also collected from MRI axial images. Dynamic X-rays were used to test for segmental instability of the cervical spine. The correlations between radiologic findings, DSSEP data, and clinical assessments were investigated. Purpose: The purpose of present study was to investigate the impact of sport experience on response inhibition and response re-engagement in expert badminton athletes during the stop-signal task and change-signal task. Methods: A total of 19 badminton athletes and 20 nonathletes performed both the stop-signal task and change-signal task. Reaction times (RTs) and event-related potentials were recorded and analyzed. Results: Behavioral results indicated that badminton athletes responded faster than nonathletes to go stimuli and to change signals, with faster change RTs and change-signal RTs, which take into consideration the variable stimulus onset time mean. During successful change trials in the change-signal task, the amplitudes of the event-related potential components N2 and P3 were smaller for badminton athletes than for nonathletes. Moreover, change-signal RTs and N2 amplitudes as well as change RTs and P3 amplitudes were significantly correlated in badminton athletes. A significant correlation was also found between the amplitude of the event-related potential component N1 and response accuracy to change signals in badminton athletes. Conclusion: Moderation of brain cortical activity in badminton athletes was more associated with their ability to rapidly inhibit a planned movement and re-engage with a new movement compared with nonathletes. The superior inhibitory control and more efficient neural mechanisms in badminton athletes compared with nonathletes might be a result of badminton athletes’ professional training experience. Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is a degenerative condition of the spine that caused by static and dynamic compression of the spinal cord. However, the mechanisms of motor and somatosensory conduction, as well as pathophysiological changes at dynamic neck positions remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the interplay between neurophysiological and hemodynamic responses at dynamic neck positions in the CSM condition, and the pathological basis behind. We first demonstrated that CSM patients had more severe dynamic motor evoked potentials (DMEPs) deteriorations upon neck flexion than upon extension, while their dynamic somatosensory evoked potentials (DSSEPs) deteriorated to a similar degree upon extension and flexion. We therefore generated a CSM rat model which developed similar neurophysiological characteristics within a 4-week compression period. At 4 weeks-post-injury, these rats presented decreased spinal cord blood flow (SCBF) and oxygen saturation (SO2) at the compression site, especially upon cervical flexion. The dynamic change of DMEPs was significantly correlated with the change in SCBF from neutral to flexion, suggesting they were more sensitive to ischemia compared to DSSEPs. We further demonstrated significant vascular redistribution in the spinal cord parenchyma, caused by angiogenesis mainly concentrated in the anterior part of the compressed site. In addition, the comparative ratio of vascular densities at the anterior and posterior parts of the cord was significantly correlated with the perfusion decrease at neck flexion. This exploratory study revealed that the motor and somatosensory conductive functions of the cervical cord changed differently at dynamic neck positions in CSM conditions. Compared with somatosensory conduction, the motor conductive function of the cervical cord suffered more severe deteriorations upon cervical flexion, which could partly be attributed to its higher susceptibility to spinal cord ischemia. The uneven angiogenesis and vascular distribution in the spinal cord parenchyma might underlie the transient ischemia of the cord at flexion.

Sodium-ion batteries stand out as a promising technology for developing a new generation of energy storage devices because of their apparent advantages in terms of costs and resources. Aqueous electrolytes, which are flame-resistant, inexpensive, and environmentally acceptable, are receiving a lot of attention in light of the present environmental and electronic equipment safety concerns. In recent decades, numerous improvements have been made to the performance of aqueous sodium-ion batteries (ASIBs). One particular development has been the transition from liquid to hydrogel electrolytes, whose durability, flexibility, and leakproof properties are eagerly anticipated in the next generation of flexible wearable electronics. The current review examines the most recent developments in the investigation and development of the electrolytes and associated electrode materials of ASIBs. An overview of new discoveries based on cycle stability, electrochemical performance, and morphology is presented along with previously published data. Additionally, the main milestones, applications, and challenges of this field are briefly discussed.

An unhealthy diet is strongly linked to obesity and numerous chronic diseases. Currently, over two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese. Although dietary assessment helps people improve nutrition and lifestyle, traditional methods for dietary assessment depend on self-report, which is inaccurate and often biased. In recent years, as electronics, information, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies advanced rapidly, image-based objective dietary assessment using wearable electronic devices has become a powerful approach. However, research in this field has been focused on the developments of advanced algorithms to process image data. Few reports exist on the study of device hardware for the particular purpose of dietary assessment. In this work, we demonstrate that, with the current hardware design, there is a considerable risk of missing important dietary data owing to the common use of rectangular image screen and fixed camera orientation. We then present two designs of a new camera system to reduce data loss by generating circular images using rectangular image sensor chips. We also present a mechanical design that allows the camera orientation to be adjusted, adapting to differences among device wearers, such as gender, body height, and so on. Finally, we discuss the pros and cons of rectangular versus circular images with respect to information preservation and data processing using AI algorithms.

The piriform cortex (PC) is a key brain area involved in both processing and coding of olfactory information. It is implicated in various brain disorders, such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and autism. The PC consists of the anterior (APC) and posterior (PPC) parts, which are different anatomically and functionally. However, the direct input networks to specific neuronal populations within the APC and PPC remain poorly understood. Here, we mapped the whole-brain direct inputs to the two major neuronal populations, the excitatory glutamatergic principal neurons and inhibitory γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-ergic interneurons within the APC and PPC using the rabies virus (RV)-mediated retrograde trans-synaptic tracing system. We found that for both types of neurons, APC and PPC share some similarities in input networks, with dominant inputs originating from the olfactory region (OLF), followed by the cortical subplate (CTXsp), isocortex, cerebral nuclei (CNU), hippocampal formation (HPF) and interbrain (IB), whereas the midbrain (MB) and hindbrain (HB) were rarely labeled. However, APC and PPC also show distinct features in their input distribution patterns. For both types of neurons, the input proportion from the OLF to the APC was higher than that to the PPC; while the PPC received higher proportions of inputs from the HPF and CNU than the APC did. Overall, our results revealed the direct input networks of both excitatory and inhibitory neuronal populations of different PC subareas, providing a structural basis to analyze the diverse PC functions.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of metal oxides and smelting dust on the formation of sulfur trioxide during copper, lead, zinc smelting process and flue. Focusing on the effects of SO2 concentration, O2 concentration, and temperature on SO2 oxidation conversion rate under homogeneous test conditions, and under various metal oxide oxidation conditions, further in dust (mainly electric dust removal ash in copper, lead, zinc smelting process), which were studied by single factor experiment test. The results showed that the effect of heterogeneous catalytic oxidation on SO2 conversion rate is much greater than that of pure gas phase oxidation. The addition of five pure metal oxides such as Fe2O3, CuO, Al2O3, ZnO, and CaO obviously promoted the SO2 conversion rate under different conditions. At different temperatures, the ability of metal oxides to promote SO2 conversion is ranked: Fe2O3 > CuO > CaO > ZnO > Al2O3. The catalytic oxidation of copper, lead, and zinc smelting dust to SO2 conversion rate was studied, and the conclusion was drawn that the metal oxides that promoted SO2 conversion rate in copper smelting dust were Fe2O3, Al2O3, ZnO, CaO, and the main substance was Fe2O3; the metal oxides that promoted SO2 conversion in zinc smelting dust were Fe2O3, Al2O3, ZnO, CaO, CuO, and the main substances were Fe2O3 and ZnO; the metal oxides that promoted SO2 conversion rate in lead smelting dust were Fe2O3. Whether metal oxides or copper, zinc, lead smelting dust in the experiment, Fe2O3 displayed the strongest catalytic oxidation capacity.

Background: CO2 emission, water pollution and petroleum shortage are the issues coming with the development of industry. A cost effective system was constructed to fix the CO2 in flue gas (15% CO2), remove nitrogen and phosphorus from manure wastewater and produce biofuels at the same time. The significant cultivation conditions were selected by Plackett–Burman design, and then optimized with central composite design. Results: Optimum culture condition was predicted at light intensity of 238 μmol·m-2·s-1, TN of 152 mg·L-1, inoculum density of 0.3 g·L-1, under which the measured CO2 fixation rate, total nitrogen and phosphorus removing rate, and lipid content were 638.13 mg·L-1·d-1, 88.16%, 73.98% and 11.9%, respectively. The lipid content was then enhanced to 24.2% by a nitrogen starvation strategy. Conclusion: A cultivation strategy was suggested to achieve effective C/N/P removal from flue gas and manure wastewater, and meanwhile obtained high lipid content from microalgal biomass.

When venture capital has been invested into venture companies, venture capitalists and venture entrepreneurs form a principal-agent relationship. Take into account the fact that the venture entrepreneur’s effort is a long process, because the effort is not the same at different stage. Therefore, efforts variables are seen as the multistage dynamic variable, and venture investment principal-agent model with venture entrepreneurs having multistage efforts is constructed on the basis of the classic principal-agent theory in the paper. Further, in the later stage effort of venture entrepreneurs is affected by the size of prestage benefit with venture capitalists and venture entrepreneurs; thus the fairness preference model is improved, and venture investment principal-agent model with venture entrepreneurs having multistage efforts is constructed on the basis of fairness preference theory. Both theoretical derivation and simulation have demonstrated that, under the condition of information asymmetry, if the fairness preference of venture entrepreneurs holds, then (1) venture capitalists provide venture entrepreneurs with level higher than that without fairness preference, (2) in every single stage venture entrepreneurs make efforts higher than those without fairness preference, and (3) in two periods both venture investors and venture entrepreneurs gain total real gains higher than those in two periods without fair preference.

For venture capitals, it is a long process from an entry to its exit. In this paper, the activity of venture investment will be divided into multistages. And, according to the effort level entrepreneurs will choose, the venture capitalists will provide an equity structure at the very beginning. As a benchmark for comparison, we will establish two game models on multistage investment under perfect rationality: a cooperative game model and a noncooperative one. Further, as a cause of pervasive psychological preference behavior, reciprocity motivation will influence the behavior of the decision-makers. Given this situation, Rabin’s reciprocity motivation theory will be applied to the multistage game model of the venture investment, and multistage behavior game model will be established as well, based on the reciprocity motivation. By looking into the theoretical derivations and simulation studies, we find that if venture capitalists and entrepreneurs both have reciprocity preferences, their utility would have been Pareto improvement compared with those under perfect rationality.
