Abstract Background Limited epidemiological evidence exists regarding the role of healthy eating patterns in reducing the risk of Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). This study aimed to investigate the association between adherence to four established healthy eating patterns and subsequent CD or UC risk, and further examined whether these associations are linked to anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Methods We conducted a prospective cohort study of 197,391 participants from the UK Biobank who completed at least one dietary questionnaire and were free from inflammatory bowel disease or cancer at baseline. Four dietary patterns were assessed, including Alternate Mediterranean Diet (AMED), Healthy Eating Index 2015 (HEI-2015), Healthful Plant-based Diet Index (HPDI), and EAT-Lancet. Cox proportional models with restricted cubic splines were applied to explore the associations. The potential role of low-grade inflammation in these associations was examined through mediation analysis. Results During 2,193,436 person-years follow-up, 260 CD and 601 UC cases were identified. Higher AMED and HEI-2015 scores were associated with a reduced risk of CD but no UC, with no evidence against nonlinearity. These associations remained consistent across multiple sensitive and subgroup analyses. For dietary components, the fruits and monounsaturated fatty acids: saturated fatty acids ratio in AMED, and total fruits, total protein foods and fatty acid in HEI-2015 were linked to a decreased CD risk. Both diets were also associated with lower plasma inflammation biomarkers. Mediation analysis indicated that 7.66% and 13.40% of the reductions in CD risk attributed to AMED and HEI-2015 diets, respectively, were mediated by low-grade inflammation scores. Conclusions Higher adherence to AMED and HEI-2015 might significantly reduce CD risk, partly due to their anti-inflammatory properties.

Taxanes are kinds of diterpenoids with important bioactivities, such as paclitaxel (taxol®) is an excellent natural broad-spectrum anticancer drug. Attempts to biosynthesize taxanes have made with limited success, mainly due to the bottleneck of the low efficiency catalytic elements. In this study, we developed an artificial synthetic system to produce taxanes from mevalonate (MVA) by coupling biological and chemical methods, which comprises in vitro multi-enzyme catalytic module, chemical catalytic module and yeast cell catalytic module. Through optimizing in vitro multienzyme catalytic system, the yield of taxadiene was increased to 946.7 mg/L from MVA within 8 h and the productivity was 14.2-fold higher than microbial fermentation. By incorporating palladium catalysis, the conversion rate of Taxa-4(20),11(12)-dien-5α-yl acetate (T5α-AC) reached 48 %, effectively addressing the product promiscuity and the low yield rate of T5αOH. Finally, we optimized the expression of T10βOH in yeast resulting in the biosynthesis of Taxa-4(20),11(12)-dien-5α-acetoxy-10β-ol(T5α-AC-10β-ol) at a production of 15.8 mg/L, which displayed more than 2000-fold higher than that produced by co-culture fermentation strategy. These technologies offered a promising new approach for efficient synthesis of taxanes.

Summary: Studies have shown that circRNAs play an important regulatory role in trophoblast function and embryonic development. Based on sequencing and functional experiments, we found that hsa_circ_0069443 can regulate the function of trophoblast cells, and its presence is found in the exosomes secreted by trophoblast cells. It is known that exosomes mediate the interaction between the uterus and embryo, which is crucial for successful pregnancy. We found that trophoblast cell-derived exosomes overexpressing hsa_circ_0069443 promoted the migration and invasion of endometrial stromal cells as well as the EMT process of endometrial glandular epithelial cells, and this process promotes embryo implantation and adhesion, thus proving that a decrease in hsa_circ_0069443 may be the key factor leading to early pregnancy loss. This study also found that hsa_circ_0069443 can bind to the RNA-binding protein demethylase ALKBH5, affecting the overall m6A level of trophoblast cells, and hsa_circ_0069443 and ALKBH5 can regulate the expression level of FN1, verifying the role of the 0069443/ALKBH5/FN1 axis in trophoblast cells and endometrial stromal cells. In summary, this study demonstrates that hsa_circ_0069443 may be a key factor leading to early pregnancy loss, and the regulation of the hsa_circ_0069443/ALKBH5/FN1 axis may provide new insights into early diagnostic markers for early pregnancy loss.

Introduction EGFR and KRAS mutations are frequently detected in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Tumor mutational signature (TMS) determination is an approach to identify somatic mutational patterns associated with pathogenic factors. In this study, through the analysis of TMS, the underlying pathogenic factors of LUAD with EGFR and KRAS mutations were traced. Methods This was a retrospective study. TMS of LUAD with KRAS and EGFR mutations from the TCGA, OncoSG, and MSK datasets was determined by two bioinformatics tools, namely the “MutationalPatterns” and “FitMS” packages. Elevated microsatellite alterations at selected tetranucleotide repeats (EMAST) of LUAD clinical specimens was analyzed using capillary electrophoresis. Results In LUAD with KRAS mutations, TMS analysis indicated that the smoking-related SBS4 signature was enriched. For LUAD with EGFR L858R mutation, the smoking-related SBS4 signature was enriched in the Western population from the TCGA database; however, the smoking-related SBS4 signature was not obvious in Asian LUAD patients. LUAD with EGFR exon19 deletion (19Del) exhibited stronger SBS15 signature, which was related to defective DNA mismatch repair. Capillary electrophoresis analysis showed that an EMAST locus was frequently instable in LUAD with EGFR 19Del. Different from the Western population, Asian LUAD patients with EGFR mutations exhibited the enrichment of SBS1, SBS2, and SBS13 signatures, which were associated with the endogenous mutation process of cytidine deamination. Conclusions TMS analysis reveals that smoking is associated with LUAD with KRAS mutations. Defective DNA mismatch repair and endogenous cytidine deamination are associated with LUAD with EGFR mutations, especially for the EGFR 19Del. The endogenous mutational process is stronger in Asian LUAD patients than Western LUAD patients.

ObjectivesInvestigate the predictive value of Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) related genes for the survival and prognosis of Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients and its role in the tumor microenvironment (TME).MethodsVM-related genes were obtained from previous literature, the expression profiles, single-cell data and clinical information of HCC patients were downloaded from public databases. The HCC patients were divided into different clusters by unsupervised clustering, the differences in prognosis and immune characteristics of VM-related clusters were analyzed. A prognostic model related to VM (VM Score) was constructed based on LASSO regression and univariate and multivariate Cox regression, the correlation between this model and chemotherapy drugs and immunotherapy was studied. Seurat package was used to standardize single-cell data for single-cell level analysis. The expression of risk factors in VM Score was verified by RT-qPCR.ResultsVM Score composed of SPP1, ADAMTS5 and ZBP1 was constructed and validated. VM Score was an independent prognostic factor for HCC. Through the analysis of single cell data further reveals the VM Score influence on TME. In addition, VM Score could provide ideas for the selection of immunotherapy and chemotherapy drugs. RT-qPCR showed that the expression of risk factors was different in HCC cell lines.ConclusionOur results suggest that VM Score may serve as a promising prognostic biomarker for HCC and provide new ideas for immunotherapy in HCC patients.

In search of innovative antifungal solutions for the control of plant diseases, a series of cyanoacrylate derivatives containing naphthalene groups were designed and synthesized, and their inhibition activity against four plant pathogenic fungi was evaluated. The results of in vitro bioassay revealed that some target compounds possessed obvious antifungal effect against Fusarium graminearum. As the most prominent one, compound A2 showed a inhibition rate of 98.46 % at 10 µg/mL and an EC50 value of 0.26 µg/mL, which was close to that of the positive control phenamacril (with a inhibition rate of 100 % at 10 µg/mL and EC50 value of 0.14 µg/mL). The compound A2 also markedly inhibited the growth of F. graminearum inoculated on rice leaves at 200 μg/mL with the protective and curative efficiencies of 89.03 % and 90.91 %, respectively, which were close to that of the positive control phenamacril (with the protective and curative efficiencies of 94.54 % and 96.36 %, respectively). The observation under scanning electron microscopy and measurement of relative conductivity revealed that compound A2 caused the hyphal surface become shrunken and rough, and made the cell membrane permeability increased. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation analyses showed that compound A2 interacted with the key residues in the active site of myosin-5 in a similar mode as phenamacril. These results suggested that target compounds were potential myosin-5 inhibitors, they could serve as the lead compounds for further structural optimization to develop new fungicides against F. graminearum.

Postbiotics are inanimate microbial cells and/or their components as well as microecological preparations made from their metabolites, which are beneficial to the health of the host. Postbiotics can regulate intestinal microbial balance, enhance immunity, and have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. Compared with probiotics, living bacterial cells, postbiotics are safer, and more stable, effective and convenient. This article summarizes the origin, microbial sources, preparation methods and advantages of postbiotics, and elucidates the mechanisms of action of postbiotics in comparison with those of probiotics. In addition, it introduces readers to the applications of postbiotics as functional food supplements, food quality improvers, food preservatives and detoxifying agents in foods. We believe that as the definition, classification, and functional components of postbiotics become clearer, they will be more widely used in the fields of foods, nutraceuticals, foods for special medical purpose, infant foods, and personal care products. The development of postbiotics will also promote the leapfrog development of basic and applied science.

Background: Gliomas are aggressive brain tumors known for their poor prognosis and resistance to standard treatment options. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death that has emerged as a promising target for cancer treatment. This study examined how the methyltransferase-like 3/YTH domain family protein 1 (METTL3/YTHDF1) axis influences ferroptosis and glioma progression by stabilizing mitochondrial carrier homolog 2 (MTCH2) messenger RNA (mRNA). Methods: MTCH2 expression in glioma tissues and cell lines was evaluated through quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and western blot analyses. To assess the effects of MTCH2 knockdown and overexpression on glioma cell functions, we performed a series of functional assays, including cell viability, colony formation, and measurements of lipid reactive oxygen species (lipid ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Additionally, we conducted RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) and RNA stability assays to explore the underlying mechanisms governing the interaction between METTL3, YTHDF1, and the stability of MTCH2 mRNA. Results: MTCH2 was significantly upregulated in glioma tissues and cell lines. Silencing of MTCH2 resulted in decreased glioma cell proliferation and induced ferroptosis, as evidenced by increased lipid peroxidation and ROS accumulation. Conversely, overexpression of MTCH2 enhanced glioma cell survival and reduced ferroptosis. METTL3-mediated N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification enhanced MTCH2 mRNA stability by enabling YTHDF1 to bind and protect the modified mRNA from degradation. Conclusion: The METTL3/YTHDF1/MTCH2 axis plays a critical role in glioma progression by inhibiting ferroptosis and promoting tumor cell survival. Targeting this pathway may provide a new and effective treatment strategy for glioma patients.

Beyond hexagons, a distinctive family of pentagonal two-dimensional materials (2DMs) has emerged, featuring asymmetric geometry, exotic characteristics, and promising applications. Pentagonal tessellation of 2DMs generally leads to semiconducting bandgaps and directional electrical and optical properties. The theoretical prediction of penta-graphene and the experimental realization of materials, such as PdSe2, PdPSe, PdPS, and NiN2, have revealed a new horizon for penta-materials, showcasing high air stability and inherent auxeticity. Due to the rarity of pentagonal topology in nature, it is crucial to employ computational models and simulations to establish the stable configurations of these materials and understand their behavior in pentagonal arrangements. Consequently, the multitude of theoretically predicted penta-materials far surpasses the number of experimentally synthesized ones, numbering in the hundreds. A comprehensive catalog encapsulates recent progress, properties, and future perspectives, unlocking their full potential and paving the way for experimental realization. Summary: Platinum-based chemo-resistance is the major issue for the treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC). The integrative analysis of multi-omics data is a reliable approach for discovering novel biomarkers associated with chemo-resistance. Here, multi-omics integrative analysis and Cox regression found that higher expression of PCDHB4 was associated with poorer survival of SCLC patients who received chemotherapy. PCDHB4 gene was hypomethylated and upregulated in SCLC, which was validated in the levels of promoter methylation, mRNA, and protein expression. Mechanistically, using bulk RNA-seq data, functional enrichment analysis indicated that higher PCDHB4 expression was associated with lower immune infiltration. The analysis of single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) found that SCLC cells with PCDHB4 expression exhibited the characteristics of stemness and EMT. In addition, the high expression and hypomethylation of PCDHB4 were also significantly associated with poor survival in lung squamous cell carcinoma. In summary, PCDHB4 is a potential prognostic biomarker of platinum-based chemotherapy in SCLC.

BackgroundThe Herpesviridae family contains several human-related viruses, which are able to establish colonizing and latency in the human body, posing a significant threat to the prognosis of patients. Pulmonary infections represent one of the predominant infectious diseases globally, characterized by diverse and multifaceted clinical manifestations that have consistently attracted clinician’s concern. However, the relationship of herpesviruses on the prognosis of pulmonary infections and the respiratory microbiota remains poorly understood.MethodsHere, we retrospectively analyzed respiratory samples from 100 patients with pulmonary infection detected by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS).ResultsEmploying mNGS, five herpesvirus species were detected: Human alphaherpesvirus 1 (HSV-1), Human gammaherpesvirus 4 (EBV), Human betaherpesvirus 5 (CMV), Human betaherpesvirus 7 (HHV-7), and Human betaherpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B). Regression analysis showed that the age and positivity of herpesviruses in patients were independently correlated with ICU admission rates. In addition, positivity of herpesvirus was related with increased ICU days and total hospital stay. The herpesvirus-positive group demonstrated markedly higher incidences of co-infections and fungi-positive, predominantly involving Pneumocystis jirovecii and Aspergillus fumigatus. Analysis of respiratory microbiota revealed a substantially altered community composition within the herpesvirus-positive group, and herpesviruses were significantly positively correlated with the diverse respiratory opportunistic pathogens.ConclusionOverall results substantiate that the active herpesviruses in patients with pulmonary infections were significantly associated with high ICU admission rate. Moreover, the herpesviruses promotes the dysbiosis of the respiratory microbiota and an increased proportion of co-infections. These insights could contribute to unraveling the underlying mechanisms connecting active herpesviruses to the progression of severe illnesses.

Modular robots have unique advantages in handling faults and improving their robustness due to their self‐reconfiguration capacity and homogeneous interchangeability. When locked joint failure occurs in modular robots, the distribution of the failed modules will affect the manipulation capacity of the robot. In this article, a novel self‐reconfiguration method that utilizes only the remaining resources available to mitigate the damage caused by module joint failures is proposed. The key node configuration is searched by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, and then the collision‐free reconfiguration path is planned by the rapidly exploring random trees (RRT) algorithm. The proposed method not only handles single‐module lockup failure but can also be expanded to multi‐module lockup failures, fully improving the fault tolerance of the modular robot. The method is deployed on the hardware, and the feasibility of the algorithm is verified by self‐reconfiguration experiments containing faulty modules.

Objective: The present study aimed to explore the function of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMMSCs)-derived exosomal long noncoding RNA histocompatibility leukocyte antigen complex P5 (HCP5) in the osteogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs) to improve chronic periodontitis (CP). Methods: Exosomes were extracted from hBMMSCs. Alizarin red S staining was used to detect mineralised nodules. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to measure HCP5 and miR-24-3p expression. The mRNA and protein levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin, osterix, runt-related transcription factor 2, bone morphogenetic protein 2, osteopontin, fibronectin, collagen 1, heme oxygenase 1 (HO1), P38, and ETS transcription factor ELK1 (ELK1) were detected using RT-qPCR and Western blot. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits were used to determine the HO1 and carbon monoxide concentrations. Heme, biliverdin, and Fe2+ levels were determined using detection kits. Micro-computed tomography, hematoxylin and eosin staining, ALP staining, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining, ELISA, and RT-qPCR were conducted to evaluate the effect of HCP5 on CP mice. Dual luciferase, RNA immunoprecipitation, and RNA pulldown experiments were performed to identify the interactions among HCP5, miR-24-3p, and HO1. Results: The osteogenic ability of hPDLSCs significantly increased when co-cultured with hBMMSCs or hBMMSCs exosomes. Overexpression of HCP5 and HO1 in hBMMSCs exosomes promoted the osteogenic differentiation of hPDLSCs, and knockdown of HCP5 repressed the osteogenic differentiation of hPDLSCs. HCP5 knockdown enhanced the inflammatory response and repressed osteogenesis in CP mice. MiR-24-3p overexpression diminished the stimulatory effect of HCP5 on the osteogenic ability of hPDLSCs. Mechanistically, HCP5 acted as a sponge for miR-24-3p and regulated HO1 expression, and HO1 activated the P38/ELK1 pathway. Conclusion: HBMMSCs-derived exosomal HCP5 promotes the osteogenic differentiation of hPDLSCs and alleviates CP by regulating the miR-24-3p/HO1/P38/ELK1 signalling pathway.

Multifunctional smart soft armor materials always among the relentless pursuits of scientists to meet the demand of extreme environments. In this study, a novel dynamic stab resistance material owned ultraviolet (UV) resistance property constructed with Kevlar fabrics impregnated with a multi-phase shear thickening fluid (STF) composed of SiO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles as disperse phase was fabricated. The rheology test showed that the shear thickening effect displayed stronger with the concentration of TiO2 in STF (TSTF) increasing. Moreover, compared with STF, the addition of 16 % TiO2 in STF induced a prominent enhancement in peak viscosity from 550.81 to 3143.29 Pa s. Based on the favorable shear thickening performance of TSTF, the dynamic stab resistance property of the optimal TSTF/Kevlar (TSK) was increased 1.43 folds than that of neat Kevlar (NK). Furthermore, after 168 h UV irradiation, the peak stab force and dissipation energy of the optimal one were 698.43 N and 16.92 J retained 85.95 % and 86.24 %, which was 2.96 and 3.22 folds than that of UV-NK. This multi-functional composite material with the performance of resisting both stab impact and UV in extreme environments had broad application prospects in the field of lightweight protection.

BackgroundMultiple studies have shown a close relationship between changes in gut microbiota composition and obesity, and research results are influenced by factors such as race and geographical location, but there are few studies on children. ObjectiveTo analyze the diversity of gut microbiota related to obesity in a population of 2-6 years old, observe the distribution characteristics and species differences of gut microbiota between obese/overweight and normal weight groups, and explore the association betweenobese/overweight and gut microbiota diversity. MethodsFecal samples were collected from 74 children aged 2-6 years in Shanghai, including 18 obese/overweight individuals, 6 males and 12 females (male to female ratio of 1∶2), and 56 normal weight individuals, 18 males and 38 females (male to female ratio is nearly 1∶2). The 16S rDNA was extracted from bacteria in fecal samples, followed by PCR amplification, cDNA construction, and high-throughput sequencing. Naive Bayes algorithm was used to perform taxonomic analysis (phylum, class, order, family, genus, species) and community diversity analysis (Sobs index, Shannon index, Shannoneven index, Coverage index, PD index, and principal co-ordinates analysis) on representative sequences and abundance of amplicon sequence variants (ASV). Wilcoxon rank sum test, P-value multiple test correction, and analysis of similarities were used to test differences between the two groups to obtain information on the distribution characteristics and species differences of intestinal microbiota in children. ResultsSeventy-four fecal samples were sequenced, and the sequencing results were subjected to quality control and filtering. A total of 4905306 optimized sequences were obtained, resulting in 1860 ASVs. The diversity data analysis of ASVs generated 889 species annotation results at 8 taxonomic levels. The alpha diversity analysis showed that the richness (Sobs index), diversity (Shannon index), evenness (Shannoneven index), and phylogenetic diversity (PD index) of fecal community of the obese/overweight children were increased compared to those of the normal weight children, but there were no statistical differences between the two groups (P>0.05). The beta diversity analysis showed that there was little difference in the composition of microbial species between the two groups, and no significant clustering separation was observed. The results of species composition analysis at phylum, order, family, and genus levels of 74 samples showed a consistent core microbiota structure in the two groups of gut microbiota, but there were differences in microbiota composition. The differences in microbial community composition between the two groups were manifested at the taxonomic levels of order, family, and genus, among which phylum Firmicutes, order Erysipelotrichales, family Erysipelatocyclostridiaceae, genus Erysipelotrichaceae_ UCG-003 and genus Catenibacterium were significantly enriched in the obese/overweight group and contributed significantly to the phenotypic difference of obese/overweight [linear discriminant analysis (LDA)=3.72, P

Abstract Background Tumor mutational burden (TMB) is one of the most significant predictive biomarkers of immunotherapy efficacy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Radiomics allows high-throughput extraction and analysis of advanced and quantitative medical imaging features. This study develops and validates a radiomic model for predicting TMB level and the response to immunotherapy based on CT features in NSCLC. Method Pre-operative chest CT images of 127 patients with NSCLC were retrospectively studied. The 3D-Slicer software was used to outline the region of interest and extract features from the CT images. Radiomics prediction model was constructed by LASSO and multiple logistic regression in a training dataset. The model was validated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and calibration curves using external datasets. Decision curve analysis was used to assess the value of the model for clinical application. Results A total of 1037 radiomic features were extracted from the CT images of NSCLC patients from TCGA. LASSO regression selected three radiomics features (Flatness, Autocorrelation and Minimum), which were associated with TMB level in NSCLC. A TMB prediction model consisting of 3 radiomic features was constructed by multiple logistic regression. The area under the curve (AUC) value in the TCGA training dataset was 0.816 (95% CI: 0.7109–0.9203) for predicting TMB level in NSCLC. The AUC value in external validation dataset I was 0.775 (95% CI: 0.5528–0.9972) for predicting TMB level in NSCLC, and the AUC value in external validation dataset II was 0.762 (95% CI: 0.5669–0.9569) for predicting the efficacy of immunotherapy in NSCLC. Conclusion The model based on CT radiomic features helps to achieve cost effective improvement in TMB classification and precise immunotherapy treatment of NSCLC patients.

Hedysarum qilianshanense sp. nov. (Fabaceae, Hedysareae) is described and illustrated from the Qilianshan Mountains in Gansu, China. This new species is similar to H. przewalskii, but can be distinguished by its corolla being light purple to purple, standard 15–19 mm long, wings 14–16 mm long, keels 16–19 mm long, and the ovary and legume being glabrous. The new species can be easily distinguished from H. neglectum Ledeb. by its bract being shorter than the pedicel, and the ovary and legume being glabrous. Phylogenetic tree based on the nuclear ITS and ETS sequences shows that H. qilianshanense is sister to H. przewalskii, while the tree based on the plastid psbA-trnH, trnC-petN, trnL-F, trnS-G and petN-psbM sequences shows H. qilianshanense as sister to a clade consisting of H. hedysaroides, H. inundatum, H. americanum and H. neglectum. The new species is a diploid with the chromosome number 2n = 14. Based on morphological, phylogenetic and karyotypic evidence, the new species may originate from an ancient homoploid hybrid speciation event.

Robots are becoming an integral part of space facilities construction and maintenance, and may need to move to and from different work locations. Robotic arms that are widely employed, which are mounted on fixed bases, have difficulty coping with increasingly complex missions. The challenge discussed in this paper is the problem of the efficient locomotion of robotic systems. Inspired by the gliding motion of a flying snake launched from a tree and combined with the weightlessness of the space environment, we design similar motions for the robot, including the following three steps. First, the robot folds its body like a snake and initiates flight by accelerating the global center of mass (CM), focusing on the movement direction and generating suitable momentum. Then, during the flight (free-floating) phase, the joint motions are planned using a nonlinear optimization technique, considering the nonholonomic constraints introduced by the momentum conservation and the system states at the initial and final states of the floating. Meanwhile, the difficulties caused by long-distance flights are addressed to reduce the motion computational cost and energy consumption by introducing the phase plane analysis method. Finally, the landing motion is designed to avoid rigid collisions and rollover on the radial plane. The numerical simulations illustrate that the three phases of maneuvers are smooth and continuous, which can help the space robots efficiently traverse the environment.

Microbial corrosion has significant implications for the economy, environment, and human safety worldwide. Photocatalytic antibacterial technology, owing to its advantages in environmental protection, broad-spectrum, and efficient sterilization, presents a compelling alternative to traditional antibacterial strategies for microbial corrosion protection. In recent years, photocatalytic quantum dot materials have garnered considerable attention in this field due to their unique quantum effects. This article provides a brief overview of the quantum effects associated with quantum dot materials, reviews the classification and preparation methods of these photocatalytic quantum dots, and elucidates their inhibitory effects and mechanisms against microbial corrosion. Finally, this article summarizes unresolved issues and prospects for the future development of quantum dots in the realm of microbial corrosion protection.

Immuno-oncology has revolutionized cancer treatment, with NKG2A emerging as a novel target for immunotherapy. The blockade of NKG2A using the immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) monalizumab has been shown to enhance the responses of both NK cells and CD8+ T cells. However, monalizumab has demonstrated limited efficacy in in vitro cytotoxic assays and clinical trials. In our study, we discovered and characterized a novel anti-NKG2A antibody, BRY805, which exhibits high specificity for the human CD94/NKG2A heterodimer complex and does not bind to the activating NKG2C receptor. In vitro cytotoxicity assays demonstrated that BRY805 effectively activated NK92 cells and primary NK cells, thereby enhancing the cytotoxic activity of effector cells against cancer cells overexpressing HLA-E, with significantly greater efficacy compared to monalizumab. Furthermore, BRY805 exhibited synergistic antitumor activity when combined with PD-L1 monoclonal antibodies. In a mouse xenograft model, BRY805 showed superior tumor control relative to monalizumab and demonstrated a favorable safety profile in non-human primate studies.

Constructing highly efficient catalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants driven by solar light in aquatic environments is a promising and green strategy. In this study, a novel hexagonal sheet-like Pt/SnS2 heterojunction photocatalyst is successfully designed and fabricated using a hydrothermal method and photodeposition process for photocatalytic tetracycline (TC) degradation. The optimal Pt/SnS2 hybrid behaves with excellent photocatalytic performance, with a degradation efficiency of 91.27% after 120 min, a reaction rate constant of 0.0187 min−1, and durability, which can be attributed to (i) the formation of a metal/semiconductor interface field caused by loading Pt nanoparticles (NPs) on the surface of SnS2, facilitating the separation of photo-induced charge carriers; (ii) the local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect of Pt NPs, extending the light absorption range; and (iii) the sheet-like structure of SnS2, which can shorten the transmission distance of charge carriers, thereby allowing more electrons (e−) and holes (h+) to transfer to the surface of the catalyst. This work provides new insights with the utilization of sheet-like structured materials for highly active photocatalytic TC degradation in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.
