Number Theoretic Transform (NTT) has been widely used in accelerating computations in lattice-based cryptography. However, attackers can potentially launch power analysis targeting the NTT because it is one of the most time-consuming parts of the implementation. This extended time frame provides a natural window of opportunity for attackers. In this paper, we investigate the first CPU frequency leakage (Hertzbleed-like) attacks against NTT in lattice-based KEMs. Our key observation is that different inputs to NTT incur different Hamming weights in its output and intermediate layers. By measuring the CPU frequency during the execution of NTT, we propose a simple yet effective attack idea to find the input to NTT that triggers NTT processing data with significantly low Hamming weight. We further apply our attack idea to real-world applications that are built upon NTT: CPAsecure Kyber without Compression and Decompression functions, and CCA-secure NTTRU. This leads us to extract information or frequency hints about the secret key. Integrating these hints into the LWE-estimator framework, we estimate a minimum of 35% security loss caused by the leakage. The frequency and timing measurements on the Reference and AVX2 implementations of NTT in both Kyber and NTTRU align well with our theoretical analysis, confirming the existence of frequency side-channel leakage in NTT. It is important to emphasize that our observation is not limited to a specific implementation but rather the algorithm on which NTT is based. Therefore, our results call for more attention to the analysis of power leakage against NTT in lattice-based cryptography.

Abstract With the development of deep learning and federated learning (FL), federated intrusion detection systems (IDSs) based on deep learning have played a significant role in securing industrial control systems (ICSs). However, adversarial attacks on ICSs may compromise the ability of deep learning‐based IDSs to accurately detect cyberattacks, leading to serious consequences. Moreover, in the process of generating adversarial samples, the selection of replacement models lacks an effective method, which may not fully expose the vulnerabilities of the models. The authors first propose an automated FL‐based method to generate adversarial samples in ICSs, called AFL‐GAS, which uses the principle of transfer attack and fully considers the importance of replacement models during the process of adversarial sample generation. In the proposed AFL‐GAS method, a lightweight neural architecture search method is developed to find the optimised replacement model composed of a combination of four lightweight basic blocks. Then, to enhance the adversarial robustness, the authors propose a multi‐objective neural architecture search‐based IDS method against adversarial attacks in ICSs, called MoNAS‐IDSAA, by considering both classification performance on regular samples and adversarial robustness simultaneously. The experimental results on three widely used intrusion detection datasets in ICSs, such as secure water treatment (SWaT), Water Distribution, and Power System Attack, demonstrate that the proposed AFL‐GAS method has obvious advantages in evasion rate and lightweight compared with other four methods. Besides, the proposed MoNAS‐IDSAA method not only has a better classification performance, but also has obvious advantages in model adversarial robustness compared with one manually designed federated adversarial learning‐based IDS method.

Private Set Intersection (PSI) is a cryptographic method in secure multi-party computation that allows entities to identify common elements in their datasets without revealing their private data. Traditional approaches assume similar-sized datasets and equal computational power, overlooking practical imbalances. In real-world applications, dataset sizes and computational capacities often vary, particularly in the Internet of Things and mobile scenarios where device limitations restrict computational types. Traditional PSI protocols are inefficient here, as computational and communication complexities correlate with the size of larger datasets. Thus, adapting PSI protocols to these imbalances is crucial. This paper explores unbalanced PSI scenarios where one party (the receiver) has a relatively small dataset and limited computational power, while the other party (the sender) has a large amount of data and strong computational capabilities. It introduces three innovative solutions for unbalanced PSI: an unbalanced PSI protocol based on the Cuckoo filter, an unbalanced PSI protocol based on single-cloud assistance, and an unbalanced PSI protocol based on dual-cloud assistance, with each subsequent solution addressing the shortcomings of the previous one. Depending on performance and security needs, different protocols can be employed for applications such as private contact discovery.

Background: Peripheral nerve injury is a challenging orthopedic issue in clinical management that often leads to limb dysfunction or even disability in severe cases. A thorough exploration of the repair process of peripheral nerve injury and the underlying mechanism contributes to formulate more effective therapeutic strategies. Methods: In the present study, we established a sciatic nerve transection injury model in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. A 12-week compensatory repair of sciatic nerve transection injury using a chitin cannula for small gap anastomosis was then performed via sleeve jointing the proximal common peroneal nerve to the distal tibial nerve and common peroneal nerve, with a 2 mm interval. Compensatory repair via small gap amplification was observed via gross observation of nerve specimen, osmic acid staining, and electrophysiological stimulation of sciatic nerve branches of the tibial and common peroneal nerve. Rat limbs were observed, and the functional recovery of effector muscles of the gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscles was assessed through weighing the muscle wet weight, Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining, and muscle strength detection. H&E staining, Masson staining, and toluidine blue staining were performed to observe the morphological changes of the dorsal root ganglion. Positive expressions of key proteins involved in the Phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN)-protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, including PTEN, AKT, mTOR, Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), and Caspase9 in the dorsal root ganglion during compensatory repair of sciatic nerve after injury via small gap amplification, were detected by immunohistochemical staining. Results: It is found that the compensatory repair of sciatic nerve transection injury using a chitin cannula for small gap anastomosis via sleeve jointing effectively restored the continuity, number of myelinated nerve fibers, and nerve conduction velocity. It promoted toe abduction recovery, improved muscle fiber morphology and increased the wet weight and muscle strength of the gastrocnemius muscle and tibialis anterior muscle. Moreover, it increased the number of neurons and nerve fibers, and improved their morphology. Downregulated PTEN, TLR4, and Caspase9 in the dorsal root ganglia and upregulated AKT and mTOR were observed after small gap amplification than those of the transection injury group, which were closer to those of the control group. Conclusions: Compensatory repair of sciatic nerve transection injury using a chitin cannula for small gap anastomosis via sleeve jointing can restore the morphology and function of the sciatic nerve, effector muscles, and corresponding dorsal root ganglia by activating the PTEN-AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in the dorsal root ganglia. Our findings provide novel therapeutic targets for peripheral nerve injuries.

Depending on performance and security requirements, different protocols can be employed for various applications.

Abstract Intra-articular injection of therapeutics is an effective strategy for treating osteoarthritis (OA), but it is hindered by rapid drug diffusion, thereby necessitating high-frequency injections. Hence, the development of a biofunctional hydrogel for improved delivery is required. In this study, we introduce a liposome-anchored teriparatide (PTH (1–34)) incorporated into a gallic acid-grafted gelatin injectable hydrogel (GLP hydrogel). We show that the GLP hydrogel can form in situ and without affecting knee motion after intra-articular injection in mice. We demonstrate controlled, sustained release of PTH (1–34) from the GLP hydrogel. We find that the GLP hydrogel promotes ATDC5 cell proliferation and protects the IL-1β-induced ATDC5 cells from further OA progression by regulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Further, we show that intra-articular injection of hydrogels into an OA-induced mouse model promotes glycosaminoglycans synthesis and protects the cartilage from degradation, supporting the potential of this biomaterial for OA treatment.

Machining nickel-based super alloys such as Inconel 718 generates a high thermal load induced via friction and plastic deformation, causing these alloys to be among most difficult-to-cut materials. Localized heat generation occurring in machining induces high temperature gradients. Experimental techniques for determining cutting tool temperature are challenging due to the small dimensions of the heat source and the chips produced, making it difficult to observe the tool–chip interface. Therefore, theoretical analysis of cutting temperatures is crucial for understanding heat generation and temperature distribution during cutting operations. Periodic heating and cooling occurring during cutting and interruption, respectively, are modeled using a hybrid analytical and finite element (FE) transient thermal model. In addition to identifying a transition distance associated with initial period of chip formation (IPCF) from apparent coefficient of friction results using a sigmoid function, the transition temperature is also identified using the thermal model. The model is validated experimentally by measuring the tool–chip interface temperature using a two-color pyrometer at a specific cutting distance. Due to the cyclic behavior in interrupted cutting, where a steady-state condition may or may not be achieved, transient thermal modeling is required in this case. Input parameters required to identify the heat flux for the transient thermal model are obtained experimentally and the definitions of heat-flux-reducing factors along the cutting path are associated with interruptions and the repeating IPCF. The thermal model consists of two main parts: one is related to identifying the heat flux, and the other part involves the determination of the temperature field within the tool using a partial differential equation (PDE) solved numerically via a 2D finite element method.

Osteoporotic fractures are induced by osteoporosis, which may lead to the degradation of bone tissues and microstructures and impair their healing ability. Conventional internal fixation therapies are ineffective in the treatment of osteoporotic fractures. Hence, developing tissue engineering materials is crucial for repairing osteoporotic fractures. It has been demonstrated that nanomaterials, particularly graphene oxide (GO), possess unique advantages in tissue engineering due to their excellent biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and osteoinductive abilities. Based on that, GO-nanocomposites have garnered significant attention and hold promising prospects for bone repair applications. This paper provides a comprehensive insight into the properties of GO, preparation methods for nanocomposites, advantages of these materials, and relevant mechanisms for osteoporotic fracture applications.

Abstract With the advent of the screen‐reading era, the confidential documents displayed on the screen can be easily captured by a camera without leaving any traces. Thus, this paper proposes a novel screen‐shooting resilient watermarking scheme for document image using deep neural network. By applying this scheme, when the watermarked image is displayed on the screen and captured by a camera, the watermark can be still extracted from the captured photographs. Specifically, the scheme is an end‐to‐end neural network with an encoder to embed watermark and a decoder to extract watermark. During the training process, a distortion layer between encoder and decoder is added to simulate the distortions introduced by screen‐shooting process in real scenes, such as camera distortion, shooting distortion, and light source distortion. Furthermore, a background sensitive loss and a lpips loss are used to improve visual quality of the watermarked document images in the training process. Besides, a strength factor adjustment strategy is also designed to improve the visual quality with little loss of bit extraction accuracy. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme has higher visual quality and robustness than the other two recent state‐of‐the‐art methods.

Abstract Background Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a successful treatment for many hip diseases. Length of stay (LOS) and hospital cost are crucial parameters to quantify the medical efficacy and quality of unilateral primary THA patients. Clinical variables associated with LOS and hospital costs haven’t been investigated thoroughly. Methods The present study retrospectively explored the contributors of LOS and hospital costs among a total of 452 unilateral primary THA patients from January 2019 to January 2020. All patients received conventional in-house rehabilitation services within our institute prior to discharge. Outcome parameters included LOS and hospital cost while clinical variables included patient characteristics and procedural variables. Multivariable linear regression analysis was performed to assess the association between outcome parameters and clinical variables by controlling confounding factors. Moreover, we analyzed patients in two groups according to their diagnosis with femur neck fracture (FNF) (confine THA) or non-FNF (elective THA) separately. Results Among all 452 eligible participants (266 females and 186 males; age 57.05 ± 15.99 year-old), 145 (32.08%) patients diagnosed with FNF and 307 (67.92%) diagnosed with non-FNF were analyzed separately. Multivariable linear regression analysis revealed that clinical variables including surgery duration, transfusion, and comorbidity (stroke) among the elective THA patients while the approach and comorbidities (stoke, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease) among the confine THA patients were associated with a prolonged LOS (P

Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common and prevalent degenerative joint disease characterized by degradation of the articular cartilage. However, none of disease-modifying OA drugs is approved currently. Teriparatide (PTH (1–34)) might stimulate chondrocyte proliferation and cartilage regeneration via some uncertain mechanisms. Relevant therapies of PTH (1–34) on OA with such effects have recently gained increasing interest, but have not become widespread practice. Thus, we launch this systematic review (SR) to update the latest evidence accordingly. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, and Embase from their inception to February 2022. Studies investigating the effects of the PTH (1–34) on OA were obtained. The quality assessment and descriptive summary were made of all included studies. Overall, 307 records were identified, and 33 studies were included. In vivo studies (n = 22) concluded that PTH (1–34) slowed progression of OA by alleviating cartilage degeneration and aberrant remodeling of subchondral bone (SCB). Moreover, PTH (1–34) exhibited repair of cartilage and SCB, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. In vitro studies (n = 11) concluded that PTH (1–34) was important for chondrocytes via increasing the proliferation and matrix synthesis but preventing apoptosis or hypertrophy. All included studies were assessed with low or unclear risk of bias in methodological quality. The SR demonstrated that PTH (1–34) could alleviate the progression of OA. Moreover, PTH (1–34) had beneficial effects on osteoporotic OA (OPOA) models, which might be a therapeutic option for OA and OPOA treatment.

Objective: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a highly prevalent musculoskeletal disorder characterized by degeneration of cartilage and abnormal remodeling of subchondral bone (SCB). Teriparatide (PTH (1–34)) is an effective anabolic drug for osteoporosis (OP) and regulates osteoprotegerin (OPG)/receptor activator of nuclear factor ligand (RANKL)/RANK signaling, which also has a therapeutic effect on KOA by ameliorating cartilage degradation and inhibiting aberrant remodeling of SCB. However, the mechanisms of PTH (1–34) in treating KOA are still uncertain and remain to be explored. Therefore, we compared the effect of PTH (1–34) on the post-traumatic KOA mouse model to explore the potential therapeutic effect and mechanisms. Methods: In vivo study, eight-week-old male mice including wild-type (WT) (n ​= ​54) and OPG−/− (n ​= ​54) were investigated and compared. Post-traumatic KOA model was created by destabilization of medial meniscus (DMM). WT mice were randomly assigned into three groups: the sham group (WT-sham; n ​= ​18), the DMM group (WT-DMM; n ​= ​18), and the PTH (1–34)-treated group (WT-DMM ​+ ​PTH (1–34); n ​= ​18). Similarly, the OPG−/− mice were randomly allocated into three groups as well. The designed mice were executed at the 4th, 8th, and 12th weeks to evaluate KOA progression. To further explore the chondro-protective of PTH (1–34), the ATDC5 chondrocytes were stimulated with different concentrations of PTH (1–34) in vitro. Results: Compared with the WT-sham mice, significant wear of cartilage in terms of reduced cartilage thickness and glycosaminoglycan (GAG) loss was detected in the WT-DMM mice. PTH (1–34) exhibited cartilage-protective by alleviating wear, retaining the thickness and GAG contents. Moreover, the deterioration of the SCB was alleviated and the expression of PTH1R/OPG/RANKL/RANK were found to increase after PTH (1–34) treatment. Among the OPG−/− mice, the cartilage of the DMM mice displayed typical KOA change with higher OARSI score and thinner cartilage. The damage of the cartilage was alleviated but the abnormal remodeling of SCB didn't show any response to the PTH (1–34) treatment. Compared with the WT-DMM mice, the OPG−/−-DMM mice caught more aggressive KOA with thinner cartilage, sever cartilage damage, and more abnormal remodeling of SCB. Moreover, both the damaged cartilage from the WT-DMM mice and the OPG−/−-DMM mice were alleviated but only the deterioration of SCB in WT-DMM mice was alleviated after the administration of PTH (1–34). In vitro study, PTH (1–34) could promote the viability of chondrocytes, enhance the synthesis of extracellular matrix (ECM) (AGC, COLII, and SOX9) at the mRNA and protein level, but inhibit the secretion of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-6). Conclusion: Both wear of the cartilage was alleviated and aberrant remodeling of the SCB was inhibited in the WT mice, but only the cartilage-protective effect was observed in the OPG−/− mice. PTH (1–34) exhibited chondro-protective effect by decelerating cartilage degeneration in vivo as well as by promoting the proliferation and enhancing ECM synthesis of chondrocytes in vitro. The current investigation implied that the rescue of the disturbed SCB is dependent on the regulation of OPG while the chondro-protective effect is independent of modulation of OPG, which provides proof for the treatment of KOA. The translational potential of this article: Systemic administration of PTH (1-34) could exert a therapeutic effect on both cartilage and SCB in different mechanisms to alleviate KOA progression, which might be a novel therapy for KOA.

Chemotherapy is commonly used for the treatment of lung cancer, but strong side effects and low treatment efficacy limit its clinical application. Here, extracellular vesicles (EVs) as natural drug delivery carriers were used to load conventional anticancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) and a chemosensitizer lonidamine (LND). Two types of EVs with different sizes (16k EVs and 120k EVs) were prepared using different centrifugation forces. We found that co-delivery of DOX and LND with both EVs enhanced the cytotoxicity and reduced the dose of the anticancer drug significantly in vitro. Effective delivery of anti-cancer drugs to cancer cells was achieved by direct fusion of EVs with the plasma membrane of cancer cells. On the other hand, DOX and LND inhibited cancer cell proliferation by increasing DNA damage, suppressing ATP production, and accelerating ROS generation synergistically. DOX and LND loaded EVs were also applied to the mouse lung cancer model and exhibited significant anticancer activity. In vivo study showed that smaller EVs exhibited higher anticancer efficiency. In conclusion, the co-delivery of the anticancer drug and the chemosensitizer with EVs may have potential clinical applications for cancer therapy.

PurposeRecent scientific reports have revealed a close association between ferroptosis and the occurrence and development of osteoarthritis (OA). Nevertheless, the precise mechanisms by which ferroptosis influences OA and how to hobble OA progression by inhibiting chondrocyte ferroptosis have not yet been fully elucidated. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive systematic review (SR) to address these gaps.MethodsFollowing the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020, we conducted a comprehensive search of the Embase, Ovid, ProQuest, PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to identify relevant studies that investigate the association between ferroptosis and chondrocytes in OA. Our search included studies published from the inception of these databases until January 31st, 2023. Only studies that met the predetermined quality criteria were included in this SR.ResultsIn this comprehensive SR, a total of 21 studies that met the specified criteria were considered suitable and included in the current updated synthesis. The mechanisms underlying chondrocyte ferroptosis and its association with OA progression involve various biological phenomena, including mitochondrial dysfunction, dysregulated iron metabolism, oxidative stress, and crucial signaling pathways.ConclusionFerroptosis in chondrocytes has opened an entirely new chapter for the investigation of OA, and targeted regulation of it is springing up as an attractive and promising therapeutic tactic for OA.Systematic review registrationhttps://inplasy.com/inplasy-2023-3-0044/, identifier INPLASY202330044.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a hereditary skeletal dysplasia with an incidence of approximately 1:15,000 to 20,000. OI is usually caused by the mutation of COL1A1 and COL1A2, which would encode the α-chain of type I collagen. OI is clinically characterized by decreased bone mass, increased risk of bone fragility, blue sclerae, and dentinogenesis.Case presentationA 29-year-old male patient was diagnosed with right tibial plateau fracture caused by slight violence. Physical examination revealed the following: height, 140 cm; weight, 70 kg; body mass index (BMI), 35.71 kg/m2; blue sclera and barrel chest were observed. X-ray examination showed left convex deformity of the thoracic vertebrae with reduced thoracic volume. Laboratory examinations revealed a decrease in both vitamin D and blood calcium levels. Bone mineral density (BMD) was lower than the normal range. After the preoperative preparation was completed, the open reduction and internal fixation of the right tibial plateau fracture were performed. Meanwhile, whole blood samples of this OI patient and the normal control were collected for RNA transcriptome sequencing. The RNA sequence analysis revealed that there were 513 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between this OI patient and the normal control. KEGG-enriched signaling pathways were significantly enriched in extracellular matrix (ECM)–receptor interactions.ConclusionIn this case, DEGs between this OI patient and the normal control were identified by RNA transcriptome sequencing. Moreover, the possible pathogenesis of OI was also explored, which may provide new evidence for the treatment of OI.

Introduction: Chemotherapy is a common strategy for the treatment of osteosarcoma. However, its therapeutic efficacy is not ideal due to the low targeting, lowbioavailability, and high toxicity of chemotherapy drugs. Nanoparticles can improve the residence time of drugs at tumor sites through targeted delivery. This new technology can reduce the risk to patients and improve survival rates. To achieve this goal, we developed a pHsensitive charge-conversion polymeric micelle [mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles] for osteosarcoma-targeted delivery of cinnamaldehyde (CA).Methods: First, an amphiphilic cinnamaldehyde polymeric prodrug [mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA)] was synthesized through Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Chain Transfer Polymerization (RAFT) polymerization and post-modification, and self-assembled into mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles in an aqueous solution. The physical properties of mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles, such as critical micelle concentration (CMC), size, appearance, and Zeta potential were characterized. The CA release curve of mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles at pH 7.4, 6.5 and 4.0 was studied by dialysis method, then the targeting ability of mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles to osteosarcoma 143B cells in acidic environment (pH 6.5) was explored by cellular uptakeassay. The antitumor effect of mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles on 143B cells in vitro was studied by MTT method, and the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in 143B cells after mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles treatment was detected. Finally, the effects of mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles on the apoptosis of 143B cells were detected by flow cytometry and TUNEL assay.Results: An amphiphilic cinnamaldehyde polymeric prodrug [mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA)] was successfully synthesized and self-assembled into spheric micelles with a diameter of 227 nm. The CMC value of mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles was 25.2 mg/L, and it showed a pH dependent release behavior of CA. mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles can achieve chargeconversion from a neutral to a positive charge with decreasing pHs. This charge-conversion property allows mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles to achieve 143B cell targeting at pH 6.5. In addition, mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles present high antitumor efficacy and intracellular ROS generation at pH 6.5 which can induce 143B cell apoptosis.Discussion: mPEG-b-P(C7-co-CA) micelles can achieve osteosarcoma targeting effectively and enhance the anti-osteosarcoma effect of cinnamaldehyde in vitro. This research provides a promising drug delivery system for clinical application and tumor treatment.

ObjectivesThe aim of this systematic review was to summarize the available literature on gut microbiome (GMB) and osteoarthritis (OA), analyze the correlation between GMB and OA, and explore potential underlying mechanisms.MethodsA systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Web of Science with the keywords “Gut Microbiome” and “Osteoarthritis” was conducted to identify the human and animal studies exploring the association between GMB and OA. The retrieval time range was from the database inception to July 31, 2022. Studies reported the other arthritic diseases without OA, reviews, and studies focused on the microbiome in other parts of the body with OA, such as oral or skin, were excluded. The included studies were mainly reviewed for GMB composition, OA severity, inflammatory factors, and intestinal permeability.ResultsThere were 31 studies published met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed, including 10 human studies and 21 animal studies. Human and animal studies have reached a consistent conclusion that GMB dysbiosis could aggravate OA. In addition, several studies have found that alterations of GMB composition can increase intestinal permeability and serum levels of inflammatory factors, while regulating GMB can alleviate the changes. Owing to the susceptibility of GMB to internal and external environments, genetics, and geography, the included studies were not consistent in GMB composition analysis.ConclusionThere is a lack of high-quality studies evaluating the effects of GMB on OA. Available evidence indicated that GMB dysbiosis aggravated OA through activating the immune response and subsequent induction of inflammation. Future studies should focus on more prospective, cohort studies combined with multi-omics to further clarify the correlation.

Abstract In recent years, deep learning has been applied to a variety of scenarios in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), including enhancing the security of IIoT. However, the existing deep learning methods utilised in IIoT security are manually designed by heavily relying on the experience of the designers. The authors have made the first contribution concerning the joint optimisation of neural architecture search and hyper‐parameters optimisation for securing IIoT. A novel automated deep learning method called synchronous optimisation of parameters and architectures by GA with CNN blocks (SOPA‐GA‐CNN) is proposed to synchronously optimise the hyperparameters and block‐based architectures in convolutional neural networks (CNNs) by genetic algorithms (GA) for the intrusion detection issue of IIoT. An efficient hybrid encoding strategy and the corresponding GA‐based evolutionary operations are designed to characterise and evolve both the hyperparameters, including batch size, learning rate, weight optimiser and weight regularisation, and the architectures, such as the block‐based network topology and the parameters of each CNN block. The experimental results on five intrusion detection datasets in IIoT, including secure water treatment, water distribution, Gas Pipeline, Botnet in Internet of Things and Power System Attack Dataset, have demonstrated the superiority of the proposed SOPA‐GA‐CNN to the state‐of‐the‐art manually designed models and neuron‐evolutionary methods in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, F1‐score, and the number of parameters of the deep learning models.

Abstract Sensitive data collected by a wireless sensor network (WSN) should be protected by a secret key shared between two adjacent (or neighboring) sensors. Sensors are mobile devices with limited memory and computational power, and sensors are deployed in a field randomly in which relative positions among sensors cannot be pre‐determined. Key distribution in WSN is a challenging research problem. Random key distribution is one of the most popular key distribution techniques in WSN; but it is a probabilistic key distribution scheme since two neighboring sensors may or may not share any pairwise key. There are many published papers to improve the probability of connectivity of two neighboring sensors. In this paper, a novel design of lightweight key establishment is proposed based on top of random key distribution. The first scheme can increase the probability of connectivity of two neighboring sensors, and the second scheme can also enable sensors to authenticate the established pairwise key. Both schemes need only XOR operation so they are lightweight and especially suitable for WSNs.

Background: Copper is an indispensable mineral element involved in many physiological metabolic processes. Cuproptosis is associated with a variety of cancer such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The objective of this study was to examine the relationships between the expression of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) and tumor characteristics, including prognosis and microenvironment of HCC.Methods: The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between high and low CRGs expression groups in HCC samples were identified, and further were analyzed for functional enrichment analysis. Then, CRGs signature of HCC was constructed and analyzed utilizing LASSO and univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis. Prognostic values of CRGs signature were evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis, independent prognostic analysis and nomograph. The expression of prognostic CRGs was verified by Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) in HCC cell lines. In addition, the relationships between prognostic CRGs expression and the immune infiltration, tumor microenvironment, antitumor drugs response and m6A modifications were further explored using a series of algorithms in HCC. Finally, ceRNA regulatory network based on prognostic CRGs was constructed.Results: The DEGs between high and low CRG expression groups in HCC were mainly enriched in focal adhesion and extracellular matrix organization. Besides, we constructed a prognostic model that consists of CDKN2A, DLAT, DLST, GLS, and PDHA1 CRGs for predicting the survival likelihood of HCC patients. And the elevated expression of these five prognostic CRGs was substantially in HCC cell lines and associated with poor prognosis. Moreover, immune score and m6A gene expression were higher in the high CRG expression group of HCC patients. Furthermore, prognostic CRGs have higher mutation rates in HCC, and are significantly correlated with immune cell infiltration, tumor mutational burden, microsatellite instability, and anti-tumor drug sensitivity. Then, eight lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axes that affected the progression of HCC were predicted.Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the CRGs signature could effectively evaluate prognosis, tumor immune microenvironment, immunotherapy response and predict lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory axes in HCC. These findings extend our knowledge of cuproptosis in HCC and may inform novel therapeutic strategies for HCC.

Background: Increasing evidence indicates a crucial role for N7-methylguanosine (m7G) methylation modification in human disease development, particularly cancer, and aberrant m7G levels are closely associated with tumorigenesis and progression via regulation of the expression of multiple oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. However, the role of m7G in sarcomas (SARC) has not been adequately evaluated.Materials and methods: Transcriptome and clinical data were gathered from the TCGA database for this study. Normal and SARC groups were compared for the expression of m7G-related genes (m7GRGs). The expression of m7GRGs was verified using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) in SARC cell lines. Then, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified between high and low m7GRGs expression groups in SARC samples, and GO enrichment and KEGG pathways were evaluated. Next, prognostic values of m7GRGs were evaluated by Cox regression analysis. Subsequently, a prognostic model was constructed using m7GRGs with good prognostic values by Lasso regression analysis. Besides, the relationships between prognostic m7GRGs and immune infiltration, clinical features, cuproptosis-related genes, and antitumor drugs were investigated in patients with SARC. Finally, a ceRNA regulatory network based on m7GRGs was constructed.Results: The expression of ten m7GRGs was higher in the SARC group than in the control group. DEGs across groups with high and low m7GRGs expression were enriched for adhesion sites and cGMP-PKG. Besides, we constructed a prognostic model that consists of EIF4A1, EIF4G3, NCBP1, and WDR4 m7GRGs for predicting the survival likelihood of sarcoma patients. And the elevated expression of these four prognostic m7GRGs was substantially associated with poor prognosis and elevated expression in SARC cell lines. Moreover, we discovered that these four m7GRGs expressions were negatively correlated with CD4+ T cell levels, dendritic cell level and tumor purity, and positively correlated with tumor mutational burden, microsatellite instability, drug sensitivity and cuproptosis-related genes in patients with sarcomas. Then, a triple regulatory network of mRNA, miRNA, and lncRNA was established.Conclusion: The current study identified EIF4A1, EIF4G3, NCBP1, and WDR4 as prognostic genes for SARC that are associated with m7G.These findings extend our knowledge of m7G methylation in SARC and may guide the development of innovative treatment options.

Interconnectivity is the key characteristic of bone tissue engineering scaffold modulating cell migration, blood vessels invasion and transport of nutrient and waste. However, efforts and understanding of the interconnectivity of porous Mg is limited due to the diverse architectures of pore struts and pore size distribution of Mg scaffold systems. In this work, biomimetic hierarchical porous Mg scaffolds with tailored interconnectivity as well as pore size distribution were prepared by template replication of infiltration casting. Mg scaffold with better interconnectivity showed lower mechanical strength. Enlarging interconnected pores would enhance the interconnectivity of the whole scaffold and reduce the change of ion concentration, pH value and osmolality of the degradation microenvironment due to the lower specific surface area. Nevertheless, the degradation rates of five tested Mg scaffolds were no different because of the same geometry of strut unit. Direct cell culture and evaluation of cell density at both sides of four typical Mg scaffolds indicated that cell migration through hierarchical porous Mg scaffolds could be enhanced by not only bigger interconnected pore size but also larger main pore size. In summary, design of interconnectivity in terms of pore size distribution could regulate mechanical strength, microenvironment in cell culture condition and cell migration potential, and beyond that it shows great potential for personalized therapy which could facilitate the regeneration process.

Gut microbiome (GMB) disturbance can induce chronic low-grade inflammation, which is closely related to the occurrence and development of osteoarthritis (OA). However, the relationship between GMB and OA remains unclear. In this study, we collected stool samples from OA patients and healthy people, and performed Alpha diversity, Beta diversity, MetaStat, and LEfSe analysis by 16S rRNA sequencing to find out the species with significant difference between the two groups. Random forest analysis was performed to find out biomarkers that could distinguish between OA patients and healthy people. PICRUSt and Bugbase analysis were used to compare the difference in functions and phenotypes. Multivariate linear regression analysis (MaAsLin) was used to adjust for gender, age, and body mass index (BMI). The results showed that there was a significant difference in the overall composition of GMB between the two groups (p = 0.005). After adjusting for gender, age, and BMI, we found that p_Bacteroidota (Q = 0.039), c_Bacteroidia (Q = 0.039), and o_Bacteroidales (Q = 0.040) were enriched in the OA group, while s_Prevotella_copri (Q = 0.001) was enriched in the healthy control group. Osteoarthritis (OA) represents the foremost degenerative joint disease observed in a clinical context. The escalating issue of population aging significantly exacerbates the prevalence of OA, thereby imposing an immense annual economic burden on societies worldwide. The current therapeutic landscape falls short in offering reliable pharmaceutical interventions and efficient treatment methodologies to tackle this growing problem. However, the scientific community continues to dedicate significant efforts towards advancing OA treatment research. Contemporary studies have discovered that the progression of OA may be slowed through the strategic influence on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs). PPARs are ligand-activated receptors within the nuclear hormone receptor family. The three distinctive subtypes—PPARα, PPARβ/δ, and PPARγ—find expression across a broad range of cellular terminals, thus managing a multitude of intracellular metabolic operations. The activation of PPARγ and PPARα has been shown to efficaciously modulate the NF-κB signaling pathway, AP-1, and other oxidative stress-responsive signaling conduits, leading to the inhibition of inflammatory responses. Furthermore, the activation of PPARγ and PPARα may confer protection to chondrocytes by exerting control over its autophagic behavior. In summation, both PPARγ and PPARα have emerged as promising potential targets for the development of effective OA treatments.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has 37 amino acids. Initially, CGRP had vasodilatory and nociceptive effects. As research progressed, evidence revealed that the peripheral nervous system is closely associated with bone metabolism, osteogenesis, and bone remodeling. Thus, CGRP is the bridge between the nervous system and the skeletal muscle system. CGRP can promote osteogenesis, inhibit bone resorption, promote vascular growth, and regulate the immune microenvironment. The G protein-coupled pathway is vital for its effects, while MAPK, Hippo, NF-κB, and other pathways have signal crosstalk, affecting cell proliferation and differentiation. The current review provides a detailed description of the bone repair effects of CGRP, subjected to several therapeutic studies, such as drug injection, gene editing, and novel bone repair materials.

Machining nickel-based alloys always exhibits significant work-hardening behavior, which may help to improve the part quality by building a hardened layer on the surface, while also causing severe tool wear during machining. Hence, modeling the work-hardening phenomenon plays a critical role in the evaluation of tool wear and part quality. This paper aims to propose a numerical model to estimate the work-hardening layer for a deeper understanding of this behavior, employing both recrystallization-based and dislocation-based models to cover workpieces with multiscale grain sizes. Different user routines are implemented in the finite element method to simulate the increase in hardness in the deformed area due to recrystallization or changes in the dislocation density. The validation of the proposed model is performed with both literature and experimental data for Inconel 718 with small or large grain sizes. It is found that the recrystallization-based model is more suitable for predicting the work-hardening behavior of small-grain-size Inconel 718 and the dislocation-based model is better for that of large-grain-size Inconel 718. Further, as an important type of cutting tool in machining Inconel 718, the chamfered tools with different edge geometries are employed in the simulations of machining-induced work hardening. The results illustrate that the uncut chip thickness and chamfer angle have a significant influence on the work-hardening behavior.

To demonstrate the detailed genetic characteristics of a blaNDM–1-carrying multidrug-resistant Aeromonas caviae strain, the complete genome of the A. caviae strain K433 was sequenced by Illumina HiSeq and Oxford nanopore platforms, and mobile genetic elements associated with antibiotic resistance genes were analyzed by a series of bioinformatics methods. A. caviae K433 which was determined to produce class B carbapenemase, was resistant to most antibiotics tested except amikacin. The genome of K433 consisted of a chromosome cK433 (6,482-kb length) and two plasmids: pK433-qnrS (7.212-kb length) and pK433-NDM (200.855-kb length), the last being the first investigated blaNDM-carrying plasmid from Aeromonas spp. By comparison of the backbone and MDR regions from the plasmids studied, they involved a highly homologous sequence structure. This study provides in-depth genetic insights into the plasmids integrated with blaNDM-carrying genetic elements from Aeromonas spp.

Abstract Background Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has broken out and spread rapidly nationwide at the beginning of 2020, which has brought huge impacts to people and work. The current situation of prevention and control is severe and urges guidance for clinicians, especially for medical systems. In the hope of providing a reference and recommendation for the prevention and control of the COVID-19, we carried out research to improve the quality of patient care and prevention during this epidemic. Methods All of the staff were trained rapidly to master personal protection in our department. We reviewed the patients’ discharged records who underwent surgery in our department during January 1 to March 1, 2019, and January 1 to March 1, 2020. The management of the surgery patients and flow charts were described and analyzed. Post-operation outcomes of the patients include duration, complications, surgical site infection (SSI), system infection, re-operation, and mortality. Both chi-squared test and Student’s t test were performed to determine the relationship between the two periods in terms of post-operation outcomes. Results Descriptive statistics analysis revealed that demographic of the patients between the two periods is similar. We had benefited from the strict flowcharts, smart robot, and protection equipment during the perioperative managements for orthopedic patients. With the help of the strict flow charts and smart equipment, post-operation outcomes of the patients revealed that the rates of the complications and re-operation had been reduced significantly (p < 0.05), while duration of operation, SSI, and system infection had no significant difference between two periods (p > 0.05). No patient and staff caught COVID-19 infection or mortality during the epidemic. Conclusions Our study indicated that medical quality and efficiency were affected little with the help of strategies described above during the epidemic, which could be a reference tool for medical staff in routine clinical practice for admission of patients around the world. What is more, the provided strategies, which may evolve over time, could be used as empirical guidance and reference for orthopedic peers to get through the pandemic and ensure the normal operation of the hospital.

Abstract Background Inflammation and apoptosis of chondrocytes are the pathological bases of osteoarthritis. Autophagy could alleviate the symptoms of inflammation and apoptosis. Previous study has shown that BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa protein-interacting protein 3 (BNIP3) can induce the occurrence and development of autophagy. However, it is unknown whether autophagy induced by BNIP3 can alleviate the inflammation and apoptosis of chondrocytes. Methods We used the lentivirus to construct the overexpression BNIP3 chondrocytes. Next, the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was used to stimulate these cells to simulate the physiological environment of osteoarthritis. After that, the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) were performed to determine the levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) and the flow cytometry was performed to detect the apoptosis rates of chondrocytes. At last, the expression of autophagy-related proteins was detected with the western blotting. Results The expression of BNIP3 was suppressed after treatment with LPS. However, overexpression of BNIP3 inhibited the secretion of proinflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) and decreased the apoptosis of chondrocytes. Furthermore, overexpression of BNIP3 led to the upregulation of autophagy-related protein expression including little computer 3 (LC3), autophagy-related protein 7 (ATG7), and Beclin-1. Application of autophagy inhibitor recovered the expression of proinflammatory factors and apoptosis rates of chondrocytes. Conclusions BNIP3 decreased the LPS-induced inflammation and apoptosis of chondrocytes by activating the autophagy.

Background: Norovirus (NoV) is recognized as a leading global cause of viral acute gastroenteritis (AGE). To better understand the prevalence and genotypic patterns of NoV infection in Southeast China, we conducted a retrospective study of diarrheal syndrome surveillance of NoV and analyzed the epidemiological characteristics of AGE cases and phylogenetic evolution of NoV strains. Methods: 1464 AGE patients in two diarrhea surveillance sentinel hospitals were sampled during 2016 and 2017. NoV Positive samples were genotyped by ORF1/ORF2 overlapping regional gene sequencing. Sequences analyses of the NoV genotypes were confirmed by online NoV Genotyping Tool and the phylogenetic analysis was constructed by MEGA 7.0. Results: 139 (9.49%) of the AGE specimens were NoV positive. The GII strain was the main geno-group in NoV infected patients. At least 12 NoV genotypes and seven recombinant strains were detected. Major NoV genotypic transformations were GII.Pe/GII.4, GII.P17/GII.17 and GII.Pe/GII.17 in 2016 to GII.P16/GII.2, GII.P17/GII.17 and GII.Pe/GII.4 in 2017. Phylogenetic analysis showed that GII.P16/GII.2 recombinant strains clustered with those detected in the USA, Russia and Japan in 2016. Conclusion: We characterized the molecular epidemiology of NoV infection in AGE patients during 2016–2017. The main three NoV GII genotypes circulating in the population of Taizhou were GII.P17/GII.17, GII.Pe/GII.4 and GII.P16/GII.2.The GII.P16/GII.2 genotype has become the predominant strain since first quarter 2017. Peripheral nerve injury may trigger changes in mRNA levels in the spinal cord. Finding key mRNAs is important for improving repair after nerve injury. This study aimed to investigate changes in mRNAs in the spinal cord following sciatic nerve injury by transcriptomic analysis. The left sciatic nerve denervation model was established in C57BL/6 mice. The left L4–6 spinal cord segment was obtained at 0, 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after severing the sciatic nerve. mRNA expression profiles were generated by RNA sequencing. The sequencing results of spinal cord mRNA at 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks after severing the sciatic nerve were compared with those at 0 weeks by bioinformatic analysis. We identified 1915 differentially expressed mRNAs in the spinal cord, of which 4, 1909, and 2 were differentially expressed at 1, 4, and 8 weeks after sciatic nerve injury, respectively. Sequencing results indicated that the number of differentially expressed mRNAs in the spinal cord was highest at 4 weeks after sciatic nerve injury. These mRNAs were associated with the cellular response to lipid, ATP metabolism, energy coupled proton transmembrane transport, nuclear transcription factor complex, vacuolar proton-transporting V-type ATPase complex, inner mitochondrial membrane protein complex, tau protein binding, NADH dehydrogenase activity and hydrogen ion transmembrane transporter activity. Of these mRNAs, Sgk1, Neurturin and Gpnmb took part in cell growth and development. Pathway analysis showed that these mRNAs were mainly involved in aldosterone-regulated sodium reabsorption, oxidative phosphorylation and collecting duct acid secretion. Functional assessment indicated that these mRNAs were associated with inflammation and cell morphology development. Our findings show that the number and type of spinal cord mRNAs involved in changes at different time points after peripheral nerve injury were different. The number of differentially expressed mRNAs in the spinal cord was highest at 4 weeks after sciatic nerve injury. These results provide reference data for finding new targets for the treatment of peripheral nerve injury, and for further gene therapy studies of peripheral nerve injury and repair. Abstract Objectives The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the length of stay (LOS) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients with an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program. Methods Information from 167 patients (31 males and 136 females, range from 43 years to 88 years old) who underwent the unilateral elective primary TKA from January 2017 to January 2019 were reviewed retrospectively. Factors were analyzed by single-factor variance and multi-factor linear regression. Results By single-factor variance analysis, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classification system, pre-operation albumin, pre-operation erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), primary and merge diseases, hidden blood loss, and length of operation were correlated with LOS (P 15 mmol/h (B value 2.21) could increase the LOS, while males (B value − 3.56) had a shortened LOS. Conclusions Overall, our research found that female, ASA class 3, pre-operation Alb 15 mmol/h could extend LOS in TKA patients with ERAS.

Background: Optimal design of clinical programs for patients with premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) (men aged ≤ 50 years, women aged ≤ 55 years) requires an understanding of their priorities. We aimed to explore patient and family priorities for services in clinical programs. Methods: We co-designed this study with a Patient Partner Committee using a sequential exploratory mixed-methods design. In Phase I, we conducted semistructured interviews with participants from the Study to Avoid Cardiovascular Events in British Columbia (SAVE BC) (n = 15). In Phase II, we designed a questionnaire based on Phase I data and distributed it to all current SAVE BC participants. We collected close-ended responses (n = 116) and stratified data using participant category (index, family member), age, sex, and number of clinic visits. Results: We identified 4 major priorities for services in clinical programs: social support (weight: 62.6%), patient education (weight: 83.5%), mental health (weight: 50.7%), and lifestyle changes (85.1%). To address these priorities, participants wanted ASCVD clinical programs to enable recruitment of their family members, establish a comprehensive education component (with research updates in research programs), deliver mental health screening and support after myocardial infarction, and provide longitudinal sessions to support maintenance of lifestyle modifications. These services were identified in Phase I and verified in Phase II. Conclusion: We identified 4 priorities for services in clinical programs designed for patients with premature ASCVD and their families. Further research should be done to elucidate their outcomes and most effective methods to provide these services. Résumé: Introduction: La conception optimale des programmes cliniques des patients atteints d’une maladie cardiovasculaire athéroscléreuse (ASCVD pour atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) prématurée (hommes âgés ≤ 50 ans, femmes âgées ≤ 55 ans) exige une compréhension de leurs priorités. Nous avions pour objectif d’examiner les priorités des patients et de leur famille en matière de services dans les programmes cliniques. Méthodes: Nous avons conçu la présente étude en collaboration avec le Patient Partner Commitee à l’aide d’un devis séquentiel exploratoire en méthodes mixtes. Ces services ont été définis à la Phase I et vérifiés à la Phase II. Conclusion: Nous avons défini les 4 priorités en matière de services dans les programmes cliniques conçus pour les patients atteints d’une ASCVD prématurée et leur famille. D’autres recherches devraient être réalisées pour élucider leurs résultats et les méthodes les plus efficaces pour offrir ces services.

With the ever-increasing requirement of storage and computation resources, it is unrealistic for local devices (with limited sources) to implement large-scale data processing. Therefore, individuals or corporations incline to outsource their computation requirements to the cloud. However, data outsourcing brings security and privacy concerns to users when the cloud servers are not fully trusted. Recently, extensive research works are conducted, aiming at secure outsourcing schemes for diverse computational tasks via different technologies. In this survey, we provide a technical review and comparison of existing outsourcing schemes using diverse secure computation methods. Specifically, we begin the survey by describing security threats and requirements of secure outsourcing computation. Meanwhile, we introduce four secure techniques (i.e., secure multi-party computation, pseudorandom functions, software guard extensions, and perturbation approaches) and their related works. Then, we focus on the theories and evolution of homomorphic encryption, as well as the applications of the basic operations and application-specific tasks. Finally, we discuss the security and performance of existing works and give future directions in this field.

SOX12 plays a role in promoting the growth of some tumors; however, its role in osteosarcoma remains unclear. From gene expression omnibus (GEO) and tumor alterations relevant for genomics-driven therapy (TARGET) databases, Kaplan–Meier analyses were conducted to establish relationships between SOX12 expression and osteosarcoma survival and recurrence in osteosarcoma patients. We also performed in vitro and in vivo assays to determine SOX12 function in osteosarcoma etiology. SOX12 expression was increased in osteosarcoma; high SOX12 expression levels were related to a poor prognosis and a high disease recurrence in patients. Moreover, SOX12 expression in osteosarcoma cell lines was increased, similar to osteosarcoma cancer stem cells. We also observed that SOX12 knockdown inhibited the spheroidization and expression of stemness markers in osteosarcoma cells and tumor formation in nude mice. In addition, SOX12 knockdown inhibited JAGGED1 and HES1 expression. Similarly, JAGGED1 knockdown also inhibited the formation of osteosarcoma cancer stem cells into pellets and reduced the expression of stemness markers and tumor formation capabilities in nude mice. Finally, during SOX12 knockdown, JAGGED1 overexpression rescued osteosarcoma cells from spheroidizing. SOX12 promotes stem cell-like phenotypes and osteosarcoma tumor growth by upregulating JAGGED1.

Executive function (EF) refers as to a set of high-level cognitive abilities that are critical to many aspects of daily life. Despite its importance in human daily life, the neural networks responsible for the development of EF in childhood are not well understood. The present study thus aimed to examine the development of task-dependent brain network organization and its relationship to age-related improvements in EF. To address this issue, we recruited eighty-eight Chinese children ranging in age from 7 to 12 years old, and collected their functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data when they performed an EF task. By utilizing graph theory, we found that the task-dependent brain network modules became increasingly segregated with age. Specifically, the intra-module connections within the default-mode network (DMN), frontal-parietal network (FPN) and sensorimotor network (SMN) increased significantly with age. In contrast, the inter-module connections of the visual network to both the FPN/SMN decreased significantly with age. Most importantly, modular segregation of the FPN significantly mediated the relationship between age and EF performance. These findings add to our growing understanding of how development changes in task-dependent brain network organization support vast behavioral improvements in EF observed during childhood.

Abstract Few‐layer black phosphorus (FL‐BP) has been intensively studied due to its attractive properties and great potential in electronic and optoelectronic applications. However, the intrinsic instability of FL‐BP greatly limits its practical application. In this study, the amphiphobic FL‐BP is achieved by functionalization of 1H,1H,2H,2H‐perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane (PFDTS) on the surface of FL‐BP. The obtained PFDTS coated FL‐BP (FL‐BP/PFDTS) demonstrates enhanced stability, which is not observed during significant degradation for 2 months in high moisture content environment (95% humidity). Particularly, attributing to the surface amphiphobicity, FL‐BP/PFDTS exhibits strong surface water repellency in the presence of oleic acid (as the contaminant), while other passivation coating layers (such as hydrophilic or hydrophobic coating) become hydrophilicity under such conditions. Owing to this advantage, the obtained FL‐BP/PFDTS demonstrates enhanced stability in high moisture content environment for 2 months, even though the surface is contaminated by oil liquid or other organic solvents (such as oleic acid, CH2Cl2, and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone). The passivation of FL‐BP by amphiphobic coating provides an effective approach for FL‐BP stabilization toward future applications.

Abstract Identifying the mechanisms underlying cognitive development in early life is a critical objective. The expression of insulin‐like growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) in the hippocampus increases during neonatal development and is associated with learning and memory, but a causal connection has not been established. Here, it is reported that neurons and astrocytes expressing IGFBP2 are distributed throughout the hippocampus. IGFBP2 enhances excitatory inputs onto CA1 pyramidal neurons, facilitating intrinsic excitability and spike transmission, and regulates plasticity at excitatory synapses in a cell‐type specific manner. It facilitates long‐term potentiation (LTP) by enhancing N‐methyl‐d‐aspartate (NMDA) receptor‐dependent excitatory postsynaptic current (EPSC), and enhances neurite proliferation and elongation. Knockout of igfbp2 reduces the numbers of pyramidal cells and interneurons, impairs LTP and cognitive performance, and reduces tonic excitation of pyramidal neurons that are all rescued by IGFBP2. The results provide insight into the requirement for IGFBP2 in cognition in early life.

Delay of axon regeneration after peripheral nerve injury usually leads to progressive muscle atrophy and poor functional recovery. The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is considered to be one of the main molecular mechanisms that lead to skeletal muscle atrophy in the elderly. We hold the hypothesis that the innervation of target muscle can be promoted by accelerating axon regeneration and decelerating muscle cell degeneration so as to improve functional recovery of skeletal muscle following peripheral nerve injury. This process may be associated with the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Our study designed in vitro cell models to simulate myelin regeneration and muscle atrophy. We investigated the effects of SB216763, a glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta inhibitor, on the two major murine cell lines RSC96 and C2C12 derived from Schwann cells and muscle satellite cells. The results showed that SB216763 stimulated the Schwann cell migration and myotube contraction. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction results demonstrated that myelin related genes, myelin associated glycoprotein and cyclin-D1, muscle related gene myogenin and endplate-associated gene nicotinic acetylcholine receptors levels were stimulated by SB216763. Immunocytochemical staining revealed that the expressions of β-catenin in the RSC96 and C2C12 cytosolic and nuclear compartments were increased in the SB216763-treated cells. These findings confirm that the glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta inhibitor, SB216763, promoted the myelination and myotube differentiation through the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and contributed to nerve remyelination and reduced denervated muscle atrophy after peripheral nerve injury.

Abstract Previous studies in the field of abacus-based mental calculation (AMC) training have shown that this training has the potential to enhance a wide variety of cognitive abilities. It can also generate specific changes in brain structure and function. However, there is lack of studies investigating the impact of AMC training on the characteristics of brain networks. In this study, utilizing graph-based network analysis, we compared topological properties of brain functional networks between an AMC group and a matched control group. Relative to the control group, the AMC group exhibited higher nodal degrees in bilateral calcarine sulcus and increased local efficiency in bilateral superior occipital gyrus and right cuneus. The AMC group also showed higher nodal local efficiency in right fusiform gyrus, which was associated with better math ability. However, no relationship was significant in the control group. These findings provide evidence that long-term AMC training may improve information processing efficiency in visual-spatial related regions, which extend our understanding of training plasticity at the brain network level.

A new malware detection method based on APK signature of information feedback (SigFeedback) was proposed.Based on SVM classification algorithm,the method of eigenvalue extraction adoped heuristic rule learning to sig APK information verify screening,and it also implemented the heuristic feedback,from which achieved the purpose of more accurate detection of malicious software.SigFeedback detection algorithm enjoyed the advantage of the high detection rate and low false positive rate.Finally the experiment show that the SigFeedback algorithm has high efficiency,making the rate of false positive from 13% down to 3%.

In reality,universal blind steganalysis is still a sensitive issue.A universal online steganalysis system that could be used in practical application was proposed.With reducing the dimensions of SRM,it could improve availability and speed up feature extraction.Some effective pre-trained models and weighted voting strategy were used in this system with a B/S architecture,involving a higher speed.In addition,multithread technology was introduced.Experimental results demonstrate that high detection accuracy can be obtained and about 0.97 seconds for single detection with the system.

Equipped with various sensors and intelligent systems, modern cars turn into entities with connectivity, autonomy, and safety. Car rental/car sharing is an innovative transportation concept and integral in today's urban living. It enables users to access a fleet of vehicles located throughout cities. Complementing public transportation, the car-sharing service helps people to meet their transportation needs economically and in an environmentally responsible manner. When a customer wants to rent a car from a rental company or an owner wants to share a private car with his/her friends or family members, the customer or the user should gain admission to the car, such as unlocking the door and starting the engine. In this paper, we proposed a novel and secure key-sharing system named hierarchical identity-based signature key sharing (HIBS-KSharing), which consists of key generation, key transmission, and key management (e.g., remote issuing, revocation of access rights, and their delegation to other users or sharers). We implemented our proposed system based on Nexus smartphones and near-field communication devices. Compared with existing key-sharing schemes of car rental/sharing, our proposed HIBS-KSharing system is secure and easily extended.

In this paper, we propose a machine learning-based approach to detect malicious mobile malware in Android applications. This paper is able to capture instantaneous attacks that cannot be effectively detected in the past work. Based on the proposed approach, we implemented a malicious app detection tool, named Androidetect. First, we analyze the relationship between system functions, sensitive permissions, and sensitive application programming interfaces. The combination of system functions has been used to describe the application behaviors and construct eigenvectors. Subsequently, based on the eigenvectors, we compare the methodologies of naive Bayesian, J48 decision tree, and application functions decision algorithm regarding effective detection of malicious Android applications. Androidetect is then applied to test sample programs and real-world applications. The experimental results prove that Androidetect can better detect malicious applications of Android by using a combination of system functions compared with the previous work.

Peripheral nerve injury is a serious disease and its repair is challenging. A cable-style autologous graft is the gold standard for repairing long peripheral nerve defects; however, ensuring that the minimum number of transplanted nerve attains maximum therapeutic effect remains poorly understood. In this study, a rat model of common peroneal nerve defect was established by resecting a 10-mm long right common peroneal nerve. Rats receiving transplantation of the common peroneal nerve in situ were designated as the in situ graft group. Ipsilateral sural nerves (10–30 mm long) were resected to establish the one sural nerve graft group, two sural nerves cable-style nerve graft group and three sural nerves cable-style nerve graft group. Each bundle of the peroneal nerve was 10 mm long. To reduce the barrier effect due to invasion by surrounding tissue and connective-tissue overgrowth between neural stumps, small gap sleeve suture was used in both proximal and distal terminals to allow repair of the injured common peroneal nerve. At three months postoperatively, recovery of nerve function and morphology was observed using osmium tetroxide staining and functional detection. The results showed that the number of regenerated nerve fibers, common peroneal nerve function index, motor nerve conduction velocity, recovery of myodynamia, and wet weight ratios of tibialis anterior muscle were not significantly different among the one sural nerve graft group, two sural nerves cable-style nerve graft group, and three sural nerves cable-style nerve graft group. These data suggest that the repair effect achieved using one sural nerve graft with a lower number of nerve fibers is the same as that achieved using the two sural nerves cable-style nerve graft and three sural nerves cable-style nerve graft. This indicates that according to the ‘multiple amplification’ phenomenon, one small nerve graft can provide a good therapeutic effect for a large peripheral nerve defect.

The rapid growth of digital image forensics calls for outsourcing digital forensics services to the cloud.It meets the requirement of image content authentication from both the public and organizations.However,it also brings the privacy concerns over the abuse of sensitive information.Based on the research in related fields,a digital forensics cloud platform with privacy preservation was presented.Furthermore,privacy-preserving outsourcing of three types of digital forensics methods,including copy-move detection,source identification and natural image sta-tistic-based tamper detection,were designed.Various future research directions were also discussed.
