Abstract

We report an updated measurement of the $\nu_{\mu}$-induced, and the first measurement of the $\bar{\nu}_{\mu}$-induced coherent charged pion production cross section on $^{12}C$ nuclei in the T2K experiment. This is measured in a restricted region of the final-state phase space for which $p_{\mu,\pi} > 0.2$ GeV, $\cos(\theta_{\mu}) > 0.8$ and $\cos(\theta_{\pi}) > 0.6$, and at a mean (anti)neutrino energy of 0.85 GeV using the T2K near detector. The measured $\nu_{\mu}$ CC coherent pion production flux-averaged cross section on $^{12}C$ is $(2.98 \pm 0.37 (stat.) \pm 0.31 (syst.) \substack{ +0.49 \\ -0.00 } \mathrm{ (Q^2\,model)}) \times 10^{-40}~\mathrm{cm}^{2}$. The new measurement of the $\bar{\nu}_{\mu}$-induced cross section on $^{12}{C}$ is $(3.05 \pm 0.71 (stat.) \pm 0.39 (syst.) \substack{ +0.74 \\ -0.00 } \mathrm{(Q^2\,model)}) \times 10^{-40}~\mathrm{cm}^{2}$. The results are compatible with both the NEUT 5.4.0 Berger-Sehgal (2009) and GENIE 2.8.0 Rein-Sehgal (2007) model predictions.

Abstract

Muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance probabilities are identical in the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework, but CPT violation and non-standard interactions can violate this symmetry. In this work we report the measurements of $\sin^{2} \theta_{23}$ and $\Delta m_{32}^2$ independently for neutrinos and antineutrinos. The aforementioned symmetry violation would manifest as an inconsistency in the neutrino and antineutrino oscillation parameters. The analysis discussed here uses a total of 1.97$\times$10$^{21}$ and 1.63$\times$10$^{21}$ protons on target taken with a neutrino and antineutrino beam respectively, and benefits from improved flux and cross-section models, new near detector samples and more than double the data reducing the overall uncertainty of the result. No significant deviation is observed, consistent with the standard neutrino oscillation picture.

Abstract

This paper reports the first measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions without pions in the final state using multiple detectors with correlated energy spectra at T2K. The data was collected on hydrocarbon targets using the off-axis T2K near detector (ND280) and the on-axis T2K near detector (INGRID) with neutrino energy spectra peaked at 0.6 GeV and 1.1 GeV respectively. The correlated neutrino flux presents an opportunity to reduce the impact of the flux uncertainty and to study the energy dependence of neutrino interactions. The extracted double-differential cross sections are compared to several Monte Carlo neutrino-nucleus interaction event generators showing the agreement between both detectors individually and with the correlated result., Comment: Updated discussion in Sec. Abstract

The T2K experiment presents new measurements of neutrino oscillation parameters using $19.7(16.3)\times10^{20}$ protons on target (POT) in (anti-)neutrino mode at the far detector (FD). Compared to the previous analysis, an additional $4.7\times10^{20}$ POT neutrino data was collected at the FD. Significant improvements were made to the analysis methodology, with the near-detector analysis introducing new selections and using more than double the data. Additionally, this is the first T2K oscillation analysis to use NA61/SHINE data on a replica of the T2K target to tune the neutrino flux model, and the neutrino interaction model was improved to include new nuclear effects and calculations. Frequentist and Bayesian analyses are presented, including results on $\sin^2\theta_{13}$ and the impact of priors on the $\delta_\mathrm{CP}$ measurement. Both analyses prefer the normal mass ordering and upper octant of $\sin^2\theta_{23}$ with a nearly maximally CP-violating phase. Assuming the normal ordering and using the constraint on $\sin^2\theta_{13}$ from reactors, $\sin^2\theta_{23}=0.561^{+0.021}_{-0.032}$ using Feldman--Cousins corrected intervals, and $\Delta{}m^2_{32}=2.494_{-0.058}^{+0.041}\times10^{-3}~\mathrm{eV^2}$ using constant $\Delta\chi^{2}$ intervals. The CP-violating phase is constrained to $\delta_\mathrm{CP}=-1.97_{-0.70}^{+0.97}$ using Feldman--Cousins corrected intervals, and $\delta_\mathrm{CP}=0,\pi$ is excluded at more than 90% confidence level. A Jarlskog invariant of zero is excluded at more than $2\sigma$ credible level using a flat prior in $\delta_\mathrm{CP}$, and just below $2\sigma$ using a flat prior in $\sin\delta_\mathrm{CP}$. When the external constraint on $\sin^2\theta_{13}$ is removed, $\sin^2\theta_{13}=28.0^{+2.8}_{-6.5}\times10^{-3}$, in agreement with measurements from reactor experiments. These results are consistent with previous T2K analyses.

Abstract

The T2K experiment widely uses plastic scintillator as a target for neutrino interactions and an active medium for the measurement of charged particles produced in neutrino interactions at its near detector complex. Over 10 years of operation the measured light yield recorded by the scintillator based subsystems has been observed to degrade by 0.9--2.2\% per year. Extrapolation of the degradation rate through to 2040 indicates the recorded light yield should remain above the lower threshold used by the current reconstruction algorithms for all subsystems. This will allow the near detectors to continue contributing to important physics measurements during the T2K-II and Hyper-Kamiokande eras. Additionally, work to disentangle the degradation of the plastic scintillator and wavelength shifting fibres shows that the reduction in light yield can be attributed to the ageing of the plastic scintillator., Comment: 29 pages, 18 figures. Abstract

The main component (CaO) in KR (Kambara reaction) desulfurization slag is a high value slag raw material for converter smelting, and attempts to utilize KR desulfurization slag in converter smelting are conducive to reducing the buildup of KR desulfurization slag and improving the economic efficiency of converter smelting. However, the removal of sulfur in the slag is a key issue. The influence of temperature on the sulfur oxidation behavior in KR slag in the form of synthetic slag was investigated. SEM-EDS, XRD, and an infrared carbon and sulfur analyzer were used to analyze and detect the oxidized slag samples at different temperatures. The results show that the desulfurization rate increases gradually with the increase in temperature at a flow rate of Ar-50%O2 of 2 L/min. Under the condition of low temperature (T ≤ 1220℃), the desulfurization rate of slag is less affected by temperature. When T > is 1220℃, the desulfurization rate of slag is greatly affected by temperature. When the reaction temperature reaches 1420℃, the desulfurization rate reaches 93.5%. Furthermore, the types of sulfur-containing phases in the oxidized slag samples gradually decrease with the increase of temperature, and the sulfur in the oxidized slag samples is mainly present in the silicate phase when the temperature is less than or equal to 1220℃.

Abstract

Based on first principles calculation, the electronic properties of graphene on metal (Ti, Ca, Ni, Mn, Co, Fe, Cr, K) modified SiO2 substrate have been studied. The results of binding energies supported graphene indicate that the metal atoms are adsorbed more stably on O surface than on Si surface of SiO2 substrate, and graphene is adsorbed very stably on metal modified substrate. The band structures of supported graphene are similar with that of suspending graphene when deposited on Co modified SiO2 surface, but change obviously with the effect of decorated Fe atoms. Interesting, a semi-metal band structure with a 1-2 eV gap in spin-up state will occur on the magnetic atoms decorated surface., Comment: (in Chinese)

Abstract

We have studied the thermal properties of bended graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. The thermal conductivity of bended GNRs shows a non-monotonous relationship with the bending angle, due to the influence of chirality and Kapitza conductance. When a constant heat flux is allowed to flow, sharp temperature jump is observed at the inside corner. On the basis of the magnitude of these jumps, we have computed the Kapitza conductance as a function of bending angles. Besides, modification of the inside corner is applied to change the ability of heat transfer at the bending place. Equations to obtain the thermal conductivity of the whole structure from the thermal conductivity of each part have been derived to guide us for GNR-interconnected circuits design.

Abstract

Based on first-principles calculations, electronic properties of edge-functionalized zigzag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNRs) on SiO2 substrate are presented. Metallic or semiconducting properties of ZGNRs are revealed due to various interactions between edge-hydrogenated ZGNRs and different SiO2 (0001) surfaces. Bivalent functional groups decorating ZGNRs serve as the bridge between active edges of ZGNRs and SiO2. These functional groups stabilize ZGNRs on substrate, as well as modify the edge states of ZGNRs and further affect their electronic properties. Abstract

Based on first-principles calculations, electronic properties of edge-functionalized zigzag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNRs) on SiO2 substrate are presented. Metallic or semiconducting properties of ZGNRs are revealed due to various interactions between edge-hydrogenated ZGNRs and different SiO2 (0001) surfaces. Bivalent functional groups decorating ZGNRs serve as the bridge between active edges of ZGNRs and SiO2. These functional groups stabilize ZGNRs on substrate, as well as modify the edge states of ZGNRs and further affect their electronic properties. Abstract

International audience; Muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance probabilities are identical in the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework, but CPT violation and non-standard interactions can violate this symmetry. In this work we report the measurements of $\sin^{2} \theta_{23}$ and $\Delta m_{32}^2$ independently for neutrinos and antineutrinos. The aforementioned symmetry violation would manifest as an inconsistency in the neutrino and antineutrino oscillation parameters. The analysis discussed here uses a total of 1.97$\times$10$^{21}$ and 1.63$\times$10$^{21}$ protons on target taken with a neutrino and antineutrino beam respectively, and benefits from improved flux and cross-section models, new near detector samples and more than double the data reducing the overall uncertainty of the result. No significant deviation is observed, consistent with the standard neutrino oscillation picture.

Abstract

International audience; This paper reports the first measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions without pions in the final state using multiple detectors with correlated energy spectra at T2K. The data was collected on hydrocarbon targets using the off-axis T2K near detector (ND280) and the on-axis T2K near detector (INGRID) with neutrino energy spectra peaked at 0.6 GeV and 1.1 GeV respectively. The correlated neutrino flux presents an opportunity to reduce the impact of the flux uncertainty and to study the energy dependence of neutrino interactions. The extracted double-differential cross sections are compared to several Monte Carlo neutrino-nucleus interaction event generators showing the agreement between both detectors individually and with the correlated result.

Abstract

The T2K experiment widely uses plastic scintillator as a target for neutrino interactions and an active medium for the measurement of charged particles produced in neutrino interactions at its near detector complex. Over 10 years of operation the measured light yield recorded by the scintillator based subsystems has been observed to degrade by 0.9--2.2\% per year. Extrapolation of the degradation rate through to 2040 indicates the recorded light yield should remain above the lower threshold used by the current reconstruction algorithms for all subsystems. This will allow the near detectors to continue contributing to important physics measurements during the T2K-II and Hyper-Kamiokande eras. Additionally, work to disentangle the degradation of the plastic scintillator and wavelength shifting fibres shows that the reduction in light yield can be attributed to the ageing of the plastic scintillator., Comment: 29 pages, 18 figures. Abstract

Customer loyalty is vital to the survival of online stores. Many cross-sectional studies have shown that e-store loyalty is strongly affected by perceived website usefulness (PU) and satisfaction with a purchase experience. By its very nature, loyalty develops cumulatively over multiple purchases. Yet, our understanding of how longitudinal changes in PU and satisfaction influence the development of (i.e., change in) loyalty remains limited. Drawing upon the information-processing perspective and experiential perspective of customer evaluation, this study shows that PU has a stronger effect on loyalty in the first purchase. In subsequent purchases, PU changes less (i.e., is more stable) than satisfaction. Furthermore, change in satisfaction has a stronger effect in the development of (i.e., change in) loyalty. This study extends research by clarifying the differential longitudinal changes and effects of two important antecedents of e-store loyalty. For practitioners, the findings suggest a longitudinal approach to initiate and nurture e-store loyalty that focuses on clarifying the usefulness of website to new customers, while increasing the satisfaction of returning customers. Abstract

This paper reports the first T2K measurement of the transverse kinematic imbalance in the single-$��^+$ production channel of neutrino interactions. We measure the differential cross sections in the muon-neutrino charged-current interaction on hydrocarbon with a single $��^+$ and at least one proton in the final state, at the ND280 off-axis near detector of the T2K experiment. The extracted cross sections are compared to the predictions from different neutrino-nucleus interaction event generators. Overall, the results show a preference for models which have a more realistic treatment of nuclear medium effects including the initial nuclear state and final-state interactions.

34. A novel fast resonance frequency tracking method based on the admittance circle for ultrasonic transducers

Abstract

For ultrasonic systems, the resonance frequency tracking (RFT) is the most critical step. The rapid development in advanced material processing and microelectronics package has increased the demand of high speed RFT. Therefore, this paper proposes a fast RFT (FRFT) method according to the characteristics of piezoelectric transducers' (PT) admittance circle. In the proposed method, the PT is driven at two different frequencies, and the PT's admittance is collected and calibrated. Then, the PT's mechanical resonance frequency is derived using the admittance information after calibration. The proposed method is not affected by the parallel capacitor and the matching circuit. Additionally, the optimal initial values of the involved parameters are determined in order to improve the accuracy of the proposed method. Furthermore, an improved method based on multiple tracking is also provided. Simulations and experiments demonstrate that using the proposed FRFT method, the ultrasonic system can track the resonance frequency in a short time with high accuracy.

35. Camouflage covert communication in air by imitating cricket’s sound

Abstract

When the radio communication of an armed squad fighting in a jungle is interfered with by enemy’s radio jamming equipment and their command and intelligence cannot be transmitted and exchanged, are there any other communication methods that can be used to solve such an emergency and covert communication problem? Focusing on this problem, a camouflage covert communication method (CCCM) in air is proposed by imitating cricket’s sound. As well-known, there exist all kinds of animals’ sounds in the jungle; however, hearing these animals’ sounds, people generally considers them as background noise and ignores them. Based on this fact, the proposed CCCM uses the cricket’s sound as the carrier wave, imitates the features of the cricket’s call sequence to construct the camouflage communication sequence, and utilizes the time interval (TI) between two adjacent pulses to encode information. Meanwhile, other animals’ sound is superimposed to the camouflage communication sequence to improve the camouflage ability of the generated communication sequence. Experimental results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed CCCM.

48. Whistle detection and classification for whales based on convolutional neural networks

Abstract

Passive acoustic observation of whales is an increasingly important tool for whale research. Accurately detecting whale sounds and correctly classifying them into corresponding whale species are essential tasks, especially in the case when two species of whales vocalize in the same observed area. Whistles are vital vocalizations of toothed whales, such as killer whales and long-finned pilot whales. In this paper, based on deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs), a novel method is proposed to detect and classify whistles of both killer whales and long-finned pilot whales. Compared with traditional methods, the proposed one can automatically learn the sound characteristics from the training data, without specifying the sound features for classification and detection, and thus shows better adaptability to complex sound signals. First, the denoised sound to be analyzed is sent to the trained detection model to estimate the number and positions of the target whistles. The detected whistles are then sent to the trained classification model, which determines the corresponding whale species. A GUI interface is developed to assist with the detection and classification process. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve 97% correct detection rate and 95% correct classification rate on the testing set. In the future, the presented method can be further applied to passive acoustic observation applications for some other whale or dolphin species.
