It has been widely argued that China has prepared for launching cyberwarfare against the United States for long time. There are two reasons for this. First, the revolution of cyber technology changed the offense-defense balance, which will lead to frequent cyber conflicts. Second, with the relative decline of the United States and the rising up of China in recent years, there has been growing concerns about a Thucydides Trap between the two great powers, and cyberwar is very likely to happen. However, except for disputes on cyber espionage, China showed restraint on the offensive use of its cyberpower. This paper argues that China's strategic thinking on cyber offense, defense, and cyberwarfare has been evolving over the past decades. Through content analysis of official documents and academic writings, this paper sheds light on the recent discussions and development of China's cyber offense and defense strategy. With China's gradual access to the global Internet and extensive participation in the international economic division of labor, maintaining the stability of global cyberspace is of greater significance to China, and the cost of launching cyber warfare is higher and higher. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the bleeding sites and their relationship with clinical characteristics in hospitalized epistaxis patients.We retrospectively reviewed the data of 646 hospitalized epistaxis patients.The bleeding sites were identified in 395 (61.1%) patients and unidentified in 251 (38.9%). We found that age > 50 years (P = 0.030) and the history of cardiovascular diseases (P = 0.027) were more frequent in patients with unidentified bleeding sites. Among patients with identified sites, inferior meatus (n = 130, 32.9%) was the most common site, followed by the septal surface of the olfactory region (n = 102, 25.8%), nasal septum (n = 80, 20.3%), middle meatus (n = 60, 15.2%), and others (n = 23, 5.8%). After dividing patients into five groups by the area of the bleeding sites, we found significant differences in age (P = 0.026), history of hypertension (P = 0.001), cardiovascular diseases (P = 0.032), and nasal packing (P = 0.011). The logistic regression also revealed that these four factors were predictors for different bleeding sites.The bleeding sites can be identified in most epistaxis patients. Age > 50 years and the history of cardiovascular diseases are more frequent in patients with unidentified bleeding sites. In our patients, the most common bleeding site is inferior meatus, followed by the septal surface of the olfactory region, nasal septum, and middle meatus. Effects of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-4 on proliferation and differentiation capacities of dental pulp cells through BMP-4 acting on human dental pulp cells cultured in vitro were investigated. Dental pulp tissues of lesion-free teeth extracted from patients due to orthodontics were taken, and human dental pulp cells were cultured in vitro using the tissue explant method. Immunocytochemical staining was used for the identification of vimentin and keratin. The dental pulp cells were divided into groups A and B. A total of 100 ng/ml BMP-4 was added into group A, while no inducer was added into group B as the control group. The cell growth curves at day 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 after culture were drawn. At day 7, the cell count, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, number of calcified nodules, and expression levels of dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP), dentin matrix protein-1 (DMP-1) and each gene related to dentinogenesis in each group were detected, respectively. Human dental pulp cells were conformed to the biological characteristics of dental pulp cells according to the identification of vimentin and keratin via immunocytochemical staining. With the prolongation of culture time, the number of cells in both groups was gradually increased, reaching the peak at day 5 and began to decline at day 7. The number of cells in group A was significantly greater than that in group B (p<0.05). According to the results of reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), the relative messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression levels of ALP, DSPP and DMP-1 in group A were significantly higher than those in group B (p<0.05). Self-other merging can arise not only between acquainted people but also between strangers. To date, the factors determining self-other merging between strangers remain to be elucidated. We investigate whether strangers' facial appearance (i.e. gaze direction) modulates such initial processes of self-other merging. In the two experiments, participants viewed strangers' faces whose gaze either directed to or averted from them. The extent of self-other merging was measured in terms of perception of face resemblance, Inclusion of the Other in the Self (IOS) scale, and correlations of personality judgments. We found that direct gaze blurred the self-other boundaries at both facial and conceptual levels. Despite the increasing evidence suggesting that power processing can activate vertical space schema, it still remains unclear whether this power–space is dichotomic or continuous. Here we tested the nature of the power–space by the distance effect, a continuous property of space cognition. In two experiments, participants were required to judge the power of one single word (Experiment 1) or compare the power of two words presented in pairs (Experiment 2). The power distance was indexed by the absolute difference of power ratings. Results demonstrated that reaction time decreased with the power distance, whereas accuracy increased with the power distance. The findings indicated that different levels of power were presented as different vertical heights, implying that there was a common mechanism underlying space and power cognition. There is increasing evidence demonstrating that power judgment is affected by vertical information. Such interaction between vertical space and power (i.e., response facilitation under space–power congruent conditions) is generally elicited in paradigms that require participants to explicitly evaluate the power of the presented words. The current research explored the possibility that explicit evaluative processing is not a prerequisite for the emergence of this effect. Here we compared the influence of vertical information on a standard explicit power evaluation task with influence on a task that linked power with stimuli in a more incidental manner, requiring participants to report whether the words represented people or animals or the font of the words. The results revealed that although the effect is more modest, the interaction between responses and power is also evident in an incidental task. Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) recommended for the patients with subsolid nodule in early lung cancer stage is not routinely. The clinical value and impact in patients with EGFR mutation on survival outcomes is further needed to be elucidated to decide whether the application of EGFR-TKIs was appropriate in early lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) stage appearing as subsolid nodules. Materials and methods: The inclusion of patients exhibiting clinical staging of IA-IIB subsolid nodules. Clinical information, computed tomography (CT) features before surgical resection and pathological characteristics including tertiary lymphoid structures of the tumors were recorded for further exploration of correlation with EGFR mutation and prognosis. Results: Finally, 325 patients were enrolled into this study, with an average age of 56.8 ± 9.8 years. There are 173 patients (53.2%) harboring EGFR mutation. Logistic regression model analysis showed that female (OR = 1.944, p = 0.015), mix ground glass nodule (OR = 2.071, p = 0.003, bubble-like lucency (OR = 1.991, p = 0.003) were significant risk factors of EGFR mutations. Additionally, EGFR mutations were negatively correlated with TLS presence and density. Prognosis analysis showed that the presence of TLS was associated with better recurrence-free survival (RFS)(p = 0.03) while EGFR mutations were associated with worse RFS(p = 0.01). The RFS in patients with TLS was considerably excel those without TLS within EGFR wild type group(p = 0.018). Multivariate analyses confirmed that EGFR mutation was an independent prognostic predictor for RFS (HR = 3.205, p = 0.037). Conclusions: In early-phase LUADs, subsolid nodules with EGFR mutation had specific clinical and radiological signatures. EGFR mutation was associated with worse survival outcomes and negatively correlated with TLS, which might weaken the positive impact of TLS on prognosis. Highly attention should be paid to the use of EGFR-TKI for further treatment as agents in early LUAD patients who carrying EGFR mutation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electrochemical process of cerium extraction from molten salt. [Display omitted] • Zirconium electrode for separation of cerium in the LiCl-KCl-CeCl 3 molten salt. • The extraction rate reached 94.02 % by potentiostatic electrolysis for 5 h. • The electrolytic products contain Ce metal and Ce-Zr solid solution by potentiostatic electrolysis at −2.2 V. • Ce-Zr solid solution was discovered on the Zr electrode by electrochemical methods. In order to improve the utilization of spent fuel, molten salt electrolysis is used to separate lanthanides from spent fuel. The electrochemical reduction mechanism of Ce(III) ions and dynamic properties of Ce(III)/Ce(0) were provided in the LiCl-KCl molten salt by diversified electrochemical techniques. The diffusion coefficient of Ce(III) and the exchange current densities of Ce(III)/Ce(0) on the W electrode were calculated by cyclic voltammetry and linear polarization, and the reaction activation energy was calculated to be 30.8 kJ∙mol−1. The electrochemical behaviors were measured in the LiCl-KCl-CeCl 3 -K 2 ZrF 6 molten salt on the W electrode and LiCl-KCl-CeCl 3 molten salt on the Zr electrode at 753 K. The redox mechanism of Ce(III) ions was studied on the Zr electrode. Compared the reaction at different electrodes, the reduction potential of cerium on the Zr electrode is more correct than that on the W electrode, the underpotential displacement of cerium and zirconium due to the formation of alloy is 0.26 V, which was detecteted using cyclic voltammetry, square wave voltammetry and chronopotentiometry. In addition, the feasibility of extracting Ce on the Zr electrode by potentiostatic electrolysis at −1.9 V and −2.2 V in the LiCl-KCl molten salt. The cathodic deposition output was characterized by XRD and SEM-EDS, Ce-Zr solid solution was derived under the different conditions. Simultaneously, the Ce metal was discovered when the deposition potential at −2.2 V. The ICP-OES results showed that the extraction ratio of was about 94.02 % for Ce(III) after potentiostatic electrolysis at −2.2 V for 5 h. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A low-grade and permeable sandstone uranium samples in Inner Mongolia prospect, China was subjected to Na2CO3/NaHCO3 leaching. The uranium dissolution mechanism was investigated by effects of leaching parameters and the shrinking core model was selected to model uranium leaching reactions. Agitation leach tests showed that the maximum uranium leaching rate reached 96.5% at 25 °C and had an 19% yield increase when added of 1 mg/L the anionic surfactant to the leaching solution. The optimum process operating parameters were: molar ratio of Na2CO3:NaHCO3 1:1, solid–liquid ratio 1:6, contact time 4 h, agitation speed 400 rpm and the surfactant concentration in leach liquor with 1 mg/L. Goethite is a stable and widespread mineral present in soil with many uses, and it affects the transportation and immobilization of heavy metals in solution. Nanogoethite was synthesized by a chemical precipitation method and used to batch adsorb U(VI) in solution. Adsorption experiments were used to understand the role of nanogoethite in controlling the U(VI) adsorption behavior in soil. The morphology and the crystallinity of nanogoethite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and wide-angle X-ray powder diffractometry, respectively. The results showed that the crystallinity of nanogoethite after the adsorption of uranium did not change, but small particles appeared on the surface of the scales. The surface area was determined from N2 adsorption–desorption experiments using the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller to be 81.86 m2/g. The effects of factors such as the contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage, and the initial concentration of uranium on the adsorption of U(VI) were investigated. The experimental results showed that nanogoethite removed over 85% of the U(VI) in an aqueous 5.0 mg/L U(VI) solution at pH 4.0 and at 298 K. The pseudo-second-order model was used to simulate the adsorption process. The results show that chemisorption plays a major role in the adsorption process. The results of this study suggest that nanogoethite may play a significant role in controlling the migration and transfer of U(VI) in the soil, thus controlling the presence of U(VI) in soil. Here four bromine‐substituted fluorene‐based derivatives are presented and BrFlu−CBr, having fluorescence‐phosphorescence dual‐emission induced not only by UV light but also by mechanical stimulus, manifests the highest phosphorescence efficiency of 4.56 % upon photoirradiation. During the grinding process, three different triboluminescent spectra were identified. Upon introduction of a mechanical stimulus, the triboluminescence emission is cyan, whereas after an extended period it changed to blue. After removing the mechanical stimulus, green‐white phosphorescent emission was observed. Careful research on single‐crystal structures and theoretical calculations demonstrate that strong Br⋅⋅⋅Br interactions are vital to facilitate spin‐orbit coupling and promote intersystem crossing, thus generating the unique properties. Concrete has a proven ability to attenuate gamma rays and neutrons without compromising structural property; therefore, it is widely used as the primary shielding material in many nuclear facilities. Recently, there is a tendency toward using various additives to enhance the shielding properties of these concrete mixtures. However, most of these additives being used either pose hygiene hazards or require special handling processes. It would be ideal if environmentally friendly additives were available for use. The bismuth oxide (Bi 2 O 3 ) additive shows promise in various shielding applications due to its proven radiation attenuation ability and environmentally friendly nature. To the best of our knowledge, however, Bi 2 O 3 has never been used in concrete mixtures. Therefore, for this research, we fabricated the Bi 2 O 3 -based concrete mixtures by adding Bi 2 O 3 powder in the ordinary concrete mixture. Concrete mixtures with lead oxide (PbO) additives were used for comparison. Radiation shielding parameters like the linear attenuation coefficients (LAC) of all these concrete mixtures showing the effects of the Bi 2 O 3 additions are presented. The mechanical performances of concrete mixtures incorporated with Bi 2 O 3 additive were also investigated. It suggested that the concrete mixture containing 25% Bi 2 O 3 powder (B5 in this study) provided the best shielding capacity and mechanical performance among other mixes.
