Search

The Macquart relation and time-delay cosmography are now two promising ways to fast radio burst (FRB) cosmology. In this work, we propose a joint method that combines strongly lensed and unlensed FRBs for improving cosmological parameter estimation by using simulated FRB data from the future sensitive coherent all-sky monitor survey, which is expected to detect a large number of FRBs including galaxy-galaxy strongly lensed events. We find that using a detectable sample of 100,000 localized FRBs including $40$ lensed events can simultaneously constrain the Hubble constant and the equation of state of dark energy, with high precision of $\varepsilon(H_0)=0.4\%$ and $\varepsilon(w)=4.5\%$ in the simplest dynamical dark energy model. The joint analysis of unlensed and lensed FRBs significantly improves the constraint on $H_0$, which could be more effective than combining either the unlensed FRBs with future gravitational wave (GW) standard sirens or the lensed FRBs with CMB. Furthermore, combining the full FRB sample with the CMB+BAO+SNe data yields $\sigma(H_0)=0.29~{\rm km~s^{-1}~Mpc^{-1}}$, $\sigma(w_0)=0.046$, and $\sigma(w_a)=0.15$ in the two-parameter dynamical dark energy model, which outperform the results from the CMB+BAO+SNe+GW data. This reinforces the cosmological implications of a multi-wavelength observational strategy in optical and radio bands. We investigate the ground-state properties of the Hubbard model on wide diagonal square cylinders, rotated by $\pi/4$ relative to the regular lattice orientation. Using state-of-the-art density matrix renormalization group calculations with a large number of states, we convincingly demonstrate the development of a unidirectional charge density wave (CDW) characterized by infinite-length stripes along the primitive vector of square lattice in models with next-nearest-neighbor hopping $t'=-0.1\sim -0.3$ and doping $\delta \sim 14\%$. Intriguingly, analysis of pair-pair correlation functions along these stripes reveals incommensurate pair density wave (PDW) superconductivity with diverged susceptibility. To the best of our knowledge, this is probably the first controlled numerical evidence of dominant PDW in the single-band Hubbard model on square lattices. At lower doping $\delta \sim 10\%$, we observed the formation of an additional CDW order within each stripe, which aligns across different stripes, forming a holon Wigner crystal phase. The spin pattern retains antiferromagnetic stripes with anti-phase domain walls. The ordering momentum of this emerged CDW order is remarkably close to the center-of-mass momentum of Cooper pairs in the PDW phase, suggesting a multifaceted relationship between CDW and PDW ordering., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures + supplemental material

We present a comprehensive test of the cosmic distance duality relation (DDR) using a combination of strong gravitational lensing (SGL) time delay measurements and Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) data. We investigate three different parameterizations of potential DDR violations. To bridge the gap between SGL and SNe Ia datasets, we implement an artificial neural network (ANN) approach to reconstruct the distance modulus of SNe Ia. Our analysis uniquely considers both scenarios where the absolute magnitude of SNe Ia ($M_B$) is treated as a free parameter and where it is fixed to a Cepheid-calibrated value. Using a sample of six SGL systems and the Pantheon+ SNe Ia dataset, we find no statistically significant evidence for DDR violations across all parameterizations. The consistency of our findings across different parameterizations not only reinforces confidence in the standard DDR but also demonstrates the robustness of our analytical approach., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

The role of near-neighbor electron attraction $V$ in strongly correlated systems has been at the forefront of recent research of unconventional superconductivity. However, its implications in the doped Hubbard model on expansive systems remain predominantly unexplored. In this study, we employ the density-matrix renormalization group to examine its effect in the lightly doped $t$-$t'$-Hubbard model on six-leg square cylinders, where $t$ and $t'$ are the first and second neighbor electron hopping amplitudes. For positive $t'$ in the electron-doped case, our results show that the attractive $V$ can significantly enhance the superconducting correlations and drive the system into a pronounced superconducting phase when the attraction exceeds a modest value $V_c \approx 0.7t$. In contrast, in the hole-doped regime with negative $t' $, while heightened superconducting correlations have also been observed in the charge stripe phase, the systems remain insulating with pronounced charge density wave order. Our results demonstrate the importance of the electron attraction in boosting superconductivity in broader doped Hubbard systems and highlight the asymmetry between the electron and hole-doped regimes., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

Pair-density-wave (PDW) is a long-sought exotic state with oscillating superconducting order without external magnetic field. So far it has been rare in establishing a 2D microscopic model with PDW long-range order in its ground state. Here we propose to study PDW superconductivity in a minimal model of spinless fermions on the honeycomb lattice with nearest-neighbor (NN) and next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) interaction $V_1$ and $V_2$, respectively. By performing a state-of-the-art density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) study of this $t$-$V_1$-$V_2$ model at finite doping on six-leg and eight-leg honeycomb cylinders, we showed that the ground state exhibits PDW ordering (namely quasi-long-range order with a divergent PDW susceptibility). Remarkably this PDW state persists on the wider cylinder with 2D-like Fermi surfaces (FS). We have studied the ground state properties of Hubbard model on long six-leg square cylinders with doped hole concentration per site $5.55\% \leq \delta\leq 12.5\%$ using density-matrix renormalization group. By keeping a large number of states for long system sizes, we find that the nature of the ground state is remarkably sensitive to the presence of next-nearest-neighbor electron hopping $t'$. In the positive $t'$ side, we find a robust $d$-wave superconducting (SC) phase characterized by coexisting quasi-long-range SC and charge density wave (CDW) correlations. Without $t'$ the ground state forms an insulating stripe phase with long-range CDW order but short-range spin-spin and SC correlations. In stark contrast to four-leg cylinders, our results show that the lightly doped Hubbard model on six-leg cylinders remains insulating in the negative $t'$ side where the SC correlations decay exponentially with short correlation lengths. In the larger negative $t'$ side, the doped holes form a novel holon Wigner crystal with one doped hole per emergent unit cell and short-range spin-spin correlations., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

Increasing numerical studies showed that the simplest Hubbard model on the square lattice with strong repulsion may not exhibit high-temperature superconductivity (SC). It is desired to look for other possible microscopic mechanism of realizing high-temperature SC. Here, we explore the interplay between the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) electron-phonon coupling (EPC) and the Hubbard repulsion by density-matrix-renormalization-group (DMRG) simulations. Our state-of-the-art DMRG study showed convincingly that the interplay between strong Hubbard $U$ and moderate Su-Schrieffer-Heeger EPC $\lambda$ can induce robust $d$-wave SC. The SSH-type EPC can generates effective antiferromagnetic spin-exchange interactions between neighboring sites, which plays a crucial role in the interplay of inducing robust $d$-wave SC. Specifically, for $U=8t$, we find that $d$-wave SC emerges when $\lambda>\lambda_c$ with a moderate critical value $\lambda_c=0.1\sim 0.2$. Recent ARPES experiments on doped 1D cuprates revealed the importance of effective near-neighbor (NN) attractions in explaining certain features in spectral functions. Here we investigate spectral properties of the extended Hubbard model with the on-site repulsion $U$ and NN interaction $V$, by employing bosonization analysis and the high-precision time-dependent variational principle (TDVP) calculations of the model on 1D chain with up to 300 sites. From state-of-the-art TDVP calculations, we find that the spectral weights of the holon-folding and $3k_F$ branches evolve oppositely as a function of $V$. This peculiar dichotomy may be explained in bosonization analysis from the opposite dependence of exponent that determines the spectral weights on Luttinger parameter $K_{\rho}$. Moreover, our TDVP calculations of models with fixed $U=8t$ and different $V$ show that $V\approx -1.7t$ may fit the experimental results best, indicating a moderate effective NN attraction in 1D cuprates that might provide some hints towards understanding superconductivity in 2D cuprates., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

We study the ground-state properties of the quantum spin liquid (QSL) phases of the spin-$1/2$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on the triangular lattice with nearest- ($J_1$), next-nearest- ($J_2$), and third-neighbor ($J_3$) interactions by using density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. By combining parallel DMRG with $SU(2)$ spin rotational symmetry, we are able to obtain accurate results on large cylinders with length up to $L_x=48$ and circumference $L_y=6 - 12$. Our results suggest that the QSL phase of the $J_1$-$J_2$ Heisenberg model is gapped which is characterized by the absence of gapless mode, short-range spin-spin and dimer-dimer correlations. In the presence of $J_3$ interaction, we find that a new critical QSL with a single gapless mode emerges. While both spin-spin and scalar chiral-chiral correlations are short-ranged, dimer-dimer correlations are quasi-long-ranged which decays as a power-law at long distances., Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures + supplemental material

We review recent density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) studies of lightly doped quantum spin liquids (QSLs) on the kagome lattice. While a number of distinct conducting phases, including high-temperature superconductivity, have been theoretically anticipated we find instead a tendency toward fractionalized insulating charge-density-wave (CDW) states. In agreement with earlier work (Jiang, Devereaux, and Kivelson, Phys. Rev. Lett. ${\bf 119}$, 067002 (2017)), results for the $t$-$J$ model reveal that starting from a fully gapped QSL, light doping leads to CDW long-range order with a pattern that depends on lattice geometry and doping concentration such that there is one doped-hole per CDW unit cell, while the spin-spin correlations remain short-ranged. Alternatively, this state can be viewed as a stripe crystal or Wigner crystal of spinless holons, rather than doped holes. From here, by studying generalized versions of the $t$-$J$ model, we extend these results to light doping of other types of QSLs, including critical and chiral QSLs. Our results suggest that doping these QSLs also leads to insulating states with long-range CDW orders. While the superconducting correlations are short-ranged, they can be significantly enhanced by second-neighbor electron hopping. We study the ground state properties of the Hubbard model on three-leg triangular cylinders using large-scale density-matrix renormalization group simulations. At half-filling, we identify an intermediate gapless spin liquid phase between a metallic phase at weak coupling and Mott insulating dimer phase at strong interaction, which has one gapless spin mode and algebraic spin-spin correlations but exponential decay scalar chiral-chiral correlations. Upon light doping the gapless spin liquid, the system exhibits power-law charge-density-wave (CDW) correlations but short-range single-particle, spin-spin, and chiral-chiral correlations. Similar to CDW correlations, the superconducting correlations are also quasi-long-ranged but oscillate in sign as a function of distance, which is consistent with the striped pair-density wave. We study the effects of doping the Kitaev model on the honeycomb lattice where the spins interact via the bond-directional interaction $J_K$, which is known to have a quantum spin liquid as its exact ground state. The effect of hole doping is studied within the $t$-$J_K$ model on a three-leg cylinder using density-matrix renormalization group. Upon light doping, we find that the ground state of the system has quasi-long-range charge-density-wave correlations but short-range single-particle correlations. The dominant pairing channel is the even-parity superconducting pair-pair correlations with $d$-wave-like symmetry, which oscillate in sign as a function of separation with a period equal to that of the spin-density wave and two times the charge-density wave. Although these correlations fall rapidly (possibly exponentially) at long distances, this is never-the-less the first example where a pair-density wave is the strongest SC order on a bipartite lattice. We re-examine the zero temperature phase diagram of the two-leg Hubbard ladder in the small $U$ limit, both analytically and using density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG). We find a ubiquitous Luther-Emery phase, but with a crossover in behavior at a characteristic interaction strength, $U^\star$; for $U \gtrsim U^\star$, there is a single emergent correlation length $\log[\xi] \sim 1/U$, characterizing the gapped modes of the system, but for $U\lesssim U^\star$ there is a hierarchy of length scales, differing parametrically in powers of $U$, reflecting a two-step renormalization group flow to the ultimate fixed point. Finally, to illustrate the versatility of the approach developed here, we sketch its implications for a half-filled triangular lattice Hubbard model on a cylinder, and find results in conflict with inferences concerning the small $U$ phase from recent DMRG studies of the same problem., Comment: 13+4 pages, 7+5 figures

Whether the doped t-J model on the Kagome lattice supports exotic superconductivity has not been decisively answered. In this paper, we propose a new class of variational states for this model and perform large-scale variational Monte Carlo simulation on it. The proposed variational states are parameterized by the SU(2)-gauge-rotation angles, as the SU(2)-gauge structure hidden in the Gutzwiller-projected mean-field ansatz for the undoped model is broken upon doping. These variational doped states smoothly connect to the previously studied U(1) $\pi$-flux or $0$-flux states, and energy minimization among them yields a chiral noncentrosymmetric nematic superconducting state with $2 \times 2$-enlarged unit cell. Moreover, this pair density wave state possesses a finite Fermi surface for the Bogoliubov quasi particles. It has long been proposed that doping a chiral spin liquid (CSL) or fractional quantum Hall state can give rise to topological superconductivity. Despite of intensive effort, definitive evidences still remain lacking. We address this problem by studying the $t$-$J$ model supplemented by time-reversal symmetry breaking chiral interaction $J_\chi$ on the triangular lattice using density-matrix renormalization group with a finite concentration $\delta$ of doped holes. It has been established that the undoped, i.e., $\delta$=0, system has a CSL ground state in the parameter region $0.32\le J_\chi/J \le 0.56$. Upon light doping, we find that the ground state of the system is consistent with a Luther-Emery liquid with power-law superconducting and charge-density-wave correlations but short-range spin-spin correlations. In particular, the superconducting correlations, whose pairing symmetry is consistent with $d\pm id$-wave, are dominant at all hole doping concentrations. We study the ground state properties of the Hubbard model on a 4-leg cylinder with doped hole concentration per site $\delta\leq 12.5\%$ using density-matrix renormalization group. By keeping a large number of states for long system sizes, we find that the nature of the ground state is remarkably sensitive to the presence of next-nearest-neighbor hopping $t'$. Without $t'$ the ground state of the system corresponds with the insulating filled stripe phase with long-range charge-density-wave (CDW) order and short-range incommensurate spin correlations appears. However, for a small negative $t'$ a phase characterized by coexisting algebraic d-wave superconducting (SC)- and algebraic CDW correlations. In addition, it shows short range spin- and fermion correlations consistent with a canonical Luther-Emery (LE) liquid, except that the charge- and spin periodicities are consistent with half-filled stripes instead of the $4 k_F$ and $2 k_F$ wavevectors generic for one dimensional chains. For a small positive $t'$ yet another phase takes over showing similar SC and CDW correlations. However, the fermions are now characterized by a (near) infinite correlation length while the gapped spin system is characterized by simple staggered antiferromagnetic correlations. We will show that this is consistent with a LE formed from a weakly coupled (BCS like) d-wave superconductor on the ladder where the interactions have only the effect to stabilize a cuprate style magnetic resonance., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures + supplemental material

The spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ kagome antiferromagnet is considered an ideal host for a quantum spin liquid ground state. We find that when the bonds of the kagome lattice are modulated with a periodic pattern, new quantum ground states emerge. Newly synthesized crystalline barlowite (Cu$_4$(OH)$_6$FBr) and Zn-substituted barlowite demonstrate the delicate interplay between singlet states and spin order on the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ kagome lattice. Comprehensive structural measurements demonstrate that our new variant of barlowite maintains hexagonal symmetry at low temperatures with an arrangement of distorted and undistorted kagome triangles, for which numerical simulations predict a pinwheel valence bond crystal (VBC) state instead of a quantum spin liquid (QSL). The presence of interlayer spins eventually leads to an interesting pinwheel $q=0$ magnetic order. Partially Zn-substituted barlowite (Cu$_{3.44}$Zn$_{0.56}$(OH)$_6$FBr) has an ideal kagome lattice and shows QSL behavior, indicating a surprising robustness of the QSL against interlayer impurities. The magnetic susceptibility is similar to that of herbertsmithite, even though the Cu$^{2+}$ impurities are above the percolation threshold for the interlayer lattice and they couple more strongly to the nearest kagome moment. This system is a unique playground displaying QSL, VBC, and spin order, furthering our understanding of these highly competitive quantum states., Comment: 31 pages, 7 figures

Recently considerable excitement has arisen due to the experimental observation of a field-induced spin liquid phase in the compound $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$. However, the nature of this putative spin liquid phase and the relevant microscopic model Hamiltonian remain still unclear. In this work, we address these questions by performing large-scale numerical simulations of a generalized Kitaev-Heisenberg model proposed to describe the physics of $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$. While there is no evidence for an intermediate phase for in-plane magnetic fields, our results strongly suggest that a stable intermediate spin liquid phase, sandwiched between a magnetically ordered phase at low fields and a high-field polarized phase, can be induced by out-of-plane magnetic fields. Moreover, we show that this field-induced spin liquid phase can be smoothly connected to a spin liquid possessing a spinon Fermi surface as proposed recently for the Kitaev model. Proposed as a fundamental symmetry describing our universe, spacetime supersymmetry (SUSY) has not been discovered yet in nature. Nonetheless, it has been predicted that SUSY may emerge in low-energy physics of quantum materials such as topological superconductors and Weyl semimetals. Here, by performing state-of-the-art sign-problem-free Majorana quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations of an interacting 2D topological superconductor, we show convincing evidences that the N=1 SUSY emerges at its edge quantum critical point (EQCP) while its bulk remains gapped and topologically nontrivial. Remarkably, near the EQCP, we find that the edge Majorana fermion acquires a mass which is identical with that of its bosonic superpartner. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first observation that fermions and bosons have equal dynamically-generated masses, a hallmark of emergent SUSY. We define a new class of "diagonal" t-J ladders rotated by $\pi$/4 relative to the canonical lattice directions of the square lattice, and study it using density matrix renormalization group (DMRG). Here, we focus on the two-leg cylinder with a doped hole concentration near x = 1/4. At exactly x = 1/4, the system forms a period 4 charge density wave (CDW) and exhibits spin-charge separation. Slightly away from 1/4 doping we observe several topologically distinct types of solitons with well defined fractionalized quantum numbers. Many features of charge-4e superconductors remain unknown because even the "mean-field Hamiltonian" describing them is an interacting model. Here we introduce an interacting model to describe a charge-4e superconductor (SC) deep in the superconducting phase, and explore its properties using quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations. The QMC is sign-problem-free, but only when a Majorana representation is employed. As a function of the chemical potential we observe two sharply-distinct behaviors: a "strong" quarteting phase in which charge-4e quartets are tightly bound (like molecules) so that charge-2e pairing does not occur even in the temperature $T \to 0$ limit, and a "weak" quarteting phase in which a further transition to a charge-2e superconducting phase occurs at a lower critical temperature. Analogous issues arise in a putative Z4 spin-liquid with a pseudo-Fermi surface and in characterizing charge-2e SCs with "odd frequency pairing" (or equivalently with a "composite order parameter") and metallic spin-nematics. Under certain circumstances, we also identified a stable T=0 charge-4e SC phase with gapless nodal quasiparticles. A fundamental open issue in physics is whether and how the fermion sign problem in quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) simulations can be solved generically. Here, we show that Majorana-time-reversal (MTR) symmetries can provide a unifying principle to solve the fermion sign problem in interacting fermionic models. By systematically classifying Majorana-bilinear operators according to the anti-commuting MTR symmetries they respect, we rigorously proved that there are two and only two fundamental symmetry classes which are sign-problem-free and which we call the "Majorana class" and "Kramers class", respectively. Novel sign-problem-free models in the Majorana class include interacting topological superconductors and interacting models of charge-4e superconductors. A unified theory of quantum critical points beyond the conventional Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson paradigm remains unknown. According to Landau cubic criterion, phase transitions should be first-order when cubic terms of order parameters are allowed by symmetry in the Landau-Ginzburg free energy. Here, from renormalization group (RG) analysis we show that second-order quantum phase transitions can occur at such putatively first-order transitions in interacting two-dimensional Dirac semimetals. As such type of Landau-forbidden quantum critical points are induced by gapless fermions, we call them fermion-induced quantum critical points (FIQCP). We further introduce a microscopic model of SU(N) fermions on the honeycomb lattice featuring a transition between Dirac semimetals and Kekule valence bond solids. Remarkably, our large-scale sign-problem-free Majorana quantum Monte Carlo simulations show convincing evidences of a FIQCP for N=2,3,4,5,6, consistent with the RG analysis. Quantum critical phenomena may be qualitatively different when massless Dirac fermions are present at criticality. Using our recently-discovered fermion-sign-free Majorana quantum Monte Carlo (MQMC) method introduced by us in Ref. [1], we investigate the quantum critical phenomena of {\it spinless} Dirac fermions at their charge-density-wave (CDW) phase transitions on the honeycomb lattice having $N_s=2L^2$ sites with largest $L=24$. In this paper, we discover a new quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) method to solve the fermion sign problem in interacting fermion models by employing Majorana representation of complex fermions. We call it "Majorana QMC" (MQMC). Especially, MQMC is fermion sign free in simulating a class of spinless fermion models on bipartite lattices at half filling and with arbitrary range of (unfrustrated) interactions. To the best of our knowledge, MQMC is the first auxiliary field QMC method to solve fermion sign problem in spinless (more generally, odd number of species) fermion models. MQMC simulations can be performed efficiently both at finite and zero temperatures. Supersymmetry (SUSY) interchanges bosons and fermions but no direct evidences of it have been revealed in nature yet. In this letter, we observe that fluctuating pair density waves (PDW) consist of two complex order parameters which can be superpartners of the unavoidably-doubled Weyl fermions in three-dimensional lattice models. We construct explicit fermionic lattice models featuring 3D Weyl fermions and show that PDW is the leading instability via a continuous phase transition as short-range interactions exceed a critical value. Using renormalization group, we theoretically show that N=2 space-time SUSY emerges at the continuous PDW transitions in 3D Weyl semimetals, which we believe is the first realization of emergent (3+1)D space-time SUSY in microscopic lattice models.
