Abstract

Underground Nuclear Astrophysics Experiment in China (JUNA) has been commissioned by taking the advantage of the ultra-low background in Jinping underground lab. High current mA level 400 KV accelerator with an ECR source and BGO detectors were commissioned. JUNA studies directly a number of nuclear reactions important to hydrostatic stellar evolution at their relevant stellar energies. In the first quarter of 2021, JUNA performed the direct measurements of 25Mg(p,γ)26Al, 19F(p,α)16O, 13C(α,n)16O and 12C(α,γ)16O near the Gamow window. The experimental results reflect the potential of JUNA with higher statistics, precision and sensitivity of the data. The preliminary results of JUNA experiment and future plan are given.

Abstract

BackgroundDue to the special physical properties of gallium, gallium is considered to be used as reactor coolant in the future. Therefore, a full set of gallium neutron data is needed. However, the experimental data of gallium in EXFOR (Nuclear reaction experimental data) database is rare. There are also some discrepancies among the evaluation data.PurposeThis study aims to obtain elastic scatting differential cross section for natural gallium at 8.0 MeV incident neutrons, so as to fill the blanks of the neutron data of gallium in the database and clarify the discrepancy among the evaluation data.MethodsFirst of all, the elastic scatting differential cross section data of natural gallium was measured at 21 different laboratory angles from 20° to 140° by using the multi-detector fast neutron time-of-flight (NTOF) spectrometer on HI-13 tandem acceleration at the China Institution of Atomic Energy (CIAE). The cross sections of gallium were normalized by n-p elastic scatting cross section, and the quality of data was improved by many methods applied to the measurement and data analysis. Then, the Monte-Carlo code STREUER was employed to rectify the neutron flux attenuation, multiple scattering and the finite geometry of the experiment. Finally, the measured TOF spectra were compared with that of simulated to determine experimental scatting differential cross section of 8.0 MeV incident neutrons.Results & ConclusionsThe results of cross section of secondary neutron for natural gallium are the world's first experimental data in the 8.0 MeV energy region. Compared with the evaluated data, the measured data is generally in good agreement with CENDL-3.2 data, but inconsistent with ENDF/B-8.0 data and JENDL-4.0 data. The divarication among these three data bases has been clarified by the experimental result, hence of great significance to data evaluation and theoretical model improvement.

Abstract

We present a fully on-device streaming Speech2Speech conversion model that normalizes a given input speech directly to synthesized output speech. Deploying such a model on mobile devices pose significant challenges in terms of memory footprint and computation requirements. We present a streaming-based approach to produce an acceptable delay, with minimal loss in speech conversion quality, when compared to a reference state of the art non-streaming approach. Our method consists of first streaming the encoder in real time while the speaker is speaking. Then, as soon as the speaker stops speaking, we run the spectrogram decoder in streaming mode along the side of a streaming vocoder to generate output speech. To achieve an acceptable delay-quality trade-off, we propose a novel hybrid approach for look-ahead in the encoder which combines a look-ahead feature stacker with a look-ahead self-attention. We show that our streaming approach is almost 2x faster than real time on the Pixel4 CPU.

6. Real time spectrogram inversion on mobile phone

Abstract

We present two methods of real time magnitude spectrogram inversion: streaming Griffin Lim(GL) and streaming MelGAN. We demonstrate the impact of looking ahead on perceptual quality of MelGAN. As little as one hop size (12.5ms) of lookahead is able to significantly improve perceptual quality in comparison to its causal version. We compare streaming GL with the streaming MelGAN and show different trade-offs in terms of perceptual quality, on-device latency, algorithmic delay, memory footprint and noise sensitivity. For fair quality assessment of the GL approach, we use input log magnitude spectrogram without mel transformation. We evaluate presented real time spectrogram inversion approaches on clean, noisy and atypical speech. We specified conditions when streaming GL has comparable quality with MelGAN: noisy audio and no mel transformation. Streaming GL is 2.4x faster than real time on the ARM CPU of a Pixel4 and it uses 4.5x times less memory than MelGAN.

Abstract

China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) is one of the most important bases for nuclear data measurement in China. In this paper, the nuclear data measurement activities at CIAE in recent years are presented. The secondary neutron emission DX and DDX measurement, the integral experiment for nuclear data benchmarking, the excitation function measurement, the neutron induced fission yields measurement and the gamma production yields measurement carried out in recent years are introduced. Furthermore, the progress of some new facilities and proposed plans (e.g. A Gamma ray Total Absorption Facility (GTAF) for (n,γ) reaction cross section measurement, A 3He detector array for (n,2n) reaction cross section measurement, the back streaming white neutron beam for nuclear data measurement at China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS)) are also presented.

Abstract

Jinping Underground lab for Nuclear Astrophysics (JUNA) will take the advantage of the ultralow background in Jinping underground lab, high current accelerator based on an ECR source and highly sensitive detector to study directly a number of crucial reactions to the hydrostatic stellar evolution for the first time at their relevant stellar energies. In its first phase, JUNA aims at the direct measurements of 25Mg(p,γ)26Al, 19F(p,α)16O, 13C(α,n)16O and 12C(α,γ)16O. The experimental setup, which include the accelerator system with high stability and high intensity, the detector system, and the shielding material with low background, will be established during the above research. The current progress of JUNA will be given.

12. The Influence of Mineral Texture on Fracture Geometry in Layered Geo-Architected Rock

Abstract

Rock is a complicated material because of the inherent heterogeneity in mineral phases and composition, even when extracted from the same rock mass. The spatial variability in compositional and structural features prevent reproducible measurements of deformation, fracture formation and other physical and chemical properties. Here, we use geo-architected 3D printed synthetic gypsum rock to show that mineral texture orientation governs the isotropy or anisotropy in fracture surface roughness and volumetric flow rate through tensile fractures. Failure load is governed by the orientation of depositional layering relative to loading direction but this effect can be hidden when an orientated mineral texture is present within the layers. We find that samples with certain mineral orientations are twice as strong as the weakest samples and that high values of sample strength correlate with rougher fracture surfaces. Mineral texture oriented parallel to the failure plane gives rise to anisotropic surface roughness and in turn to anisotropic flow rates. The uniqueness of induced fracture roughness and the degree of anisotropy is a potential method for assessment of the orientation and relative bonding strengths of minerals in a rock. With this information, we will be able to predict isotropic or anisotropic flow rates through fractures which is vital to induced fracturing, geothermal energy production and CO2 sequestration., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures

49. Effect of alkali metal on pyrolysis characteristics and pyrolysis gas products of Triarrhena lutarioriparia

Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive study that effect of acid washing conditions and alkali metal impregnation solution on the pyrolysis characteristics and gas products of Triarrhena lutarioriparia(TL) studied by the thermogravimetric-Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (TG-FTIR). The results showed that the HNO3washing significantly reduced the contents of K+and Na+in TL. The highest removal rates for K+and Na+were 98.46% and 98.32%, respectively. When the HNO3washing condition was 5%, 25 °C, and 2 h, the benefits of alkali metal removal and pyrolysis of Triarrhena lutarioripariawere the best. Immersion of TL with KCl and NaCl solutions decreased the pyrolysis temperature of TL. The order of char yield was KCl impregnation sample > NaCl impregnation sample > original sample > HNO3washing sample. The catalytic effect of alkali metals improved with increasing the concentration of K+and Na+in the impregnation solution. K+and Na+impregnation increased the peak absorbance and precipitation of CO2and CO and inhibited the generation of CH4, C = O and C–O–C.
