Autophagy is a ubiquitous process of organelle interaction in eukaryotic cells, in which various organelles or proteins are recycled and operated through the autophagy pathway to ensure nutrient and energy homeostasis. Although numerous fluorescent probes have been developed to image autophagy, these environment-responsive probes suffer from inherent deficiencies such as inaccuracy and limited versatility. Here, we present a modular macrocyclic amphiphile Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) platform (SC6A12C/NCM, SN), constructed through the amphiphilic assembly of sulfonatocalix[6]arene (SC6A12C) with N-cetylmorpholine (NCM) for lysosome targeting. The hydrophobic fluorophore BPEA (FRET donor) was entrapped within the inner hydrophobic phase and showed strong fluorescence emission. Attributed to the broad-spectrum encapsulation of SC6A12C, three commercially available organelle probes (Mito-Tracker Red, ER Tracker Red, and RhoNox-1) were selected as SC6A12C guests (FRET acceptors). During autophagy process, the formation of intracellular host-guest complexes leads to strong FRET signal, allowing us to visualize the fusion of mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and Golgi apparatus with lysosomes, respectively. The renin-angiotensin system (RAS), composed mainly of renin, angiotensin, and aldosterone, is a key endocrine pathway involved in cardiovascular activity regulation. Under physiological conditions, the RAS plays a vital role in water and salt metabolism, blood pressure regulation, and electrolyte balance. Angiotensin II (Ang II) is the most important active component of the RAS, and its receptors are concentrated in vascular, pulmonary, cardiac, and renal tissues in vivo. Moreover, Ang II is closely associated with the development of vascular lesions. Ang II expression is closely associated with atherosclerosis, aortic aneurysm/dissection, ischemic stroke, hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Given the significant pathophysiological role of Ang II in vascular diseases and the availability of advanced detection methods, Ang II holds promise as a reliable biomarker and therapeutic target in clinical settings. Pathogenic intracellular bacteria pose a significant threat to global public health due to the barriers presented by host cells hindering the timely detection of hidden bacteria and the effective delivery of therapeutic agents. To address these challenges, we propose a tandem diagnosis-guided treatment paradigm. A supramolecular sensor array is developed for simple, rapid, accurate, and high-throughput identification of intracellular bacteria. This diagnostic approach executes the significant guiding missions of screening a customized host-guest drug delivery system by disclosing the rationale behind the discrimination. We design eight azocalix[4]arenes with differential active targeting, cellular internalization, and hypoxia responsiveness to penetrate cells and interact with bacteria. Loaded with fluorescent indicators, these azocalix[4]arenes form a sensor array capable of discriminating eight intracellular bacterial species without cell lysis or separation. By fingerprinting specimens collected from bacteria-infected mice, the facilitated accurate diagnosis offers valuable guidance for selecting appropriate antibiotics. Moreover, mannose-modified azocalix[4]arene (ManAC4A) is screened as a drug carrier efficiently taken up by macrophages. Doxycycline loaded with ManAC4A exhibits improved efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus-infected peritonitis. A novel fluorimetric ratiometric probe of green and eco-friendily nitrogen-enriched, oxygen-doped carbon nanodots (Cnanodots) was prepared for the quantitative analysis of mercury(II) (Hg II ) and nitrofurantoin (Nit) in the environmental sewage. The Cnanodots exhibits dual-emission peaks respectively at 345 and 445 nm under 285 nm excitation, with excitation-independent properties. Unexpectedly, this Cnanodots displays two obvious ratiometric responses to Hg II and Nit through decreasing the signal at 345 nm and remaining invariable at 445 nm. Experimental results confirm that the highly sensitive analysis of Hg II and Nit are achieved respectively based on matching energy-level electron transfer and inner filter effect mechanisms. The fluorescence (FL) ratiometric intensity of [FL 345nm /FL 445nm ] expresses a good linear relationship with the concentration of Hg II in the scope of 0.01-20 μM, while the logarithm of [Log(FL 0345nm -FL 345nm )] on the quenching degree of the probe by Nit also shows a good linear correlation within the range of 0.01-100 μM. The detection limits were calculated to be 4.14 nM for Hg II , and 7.84 nM for Nit. Aiming at finding wide-temperature-zone thermoelectric (TE) materials, five kinds of monolayer GeTe allotropes including the newly designed γ -, δ -, and ɛ -GeTe monolayers and the usual α - and β -GeTe ones are constructed. By using the density functional theory and the nonequilibrium Green's function method, all their electronic properties and TE transport properties are comparatively investigated. It is found that the room-temperature figure of merit ZT of the γ -GeTe ( ɛ -GeTe) along the armchair (zigzag) direction can amount to 4.5 (3.5), which is further increased to 7.15 (5.91) at 700 K. These ZT values are much higher than the other IV-VI compounds usually with ZT  < 3, indicating that the armchair γ -GeTe and the zigzag ɛ -GeTe we designed here can be used as superior wide-temperature-zone and high-performance TE materials in the temperature range from 300 K to 700 K. Moreover, with the increase of temperature, the ZT peaks will become wider in width and move towards the position of zero chemical potential, which will make the GeTe-based TE devices work at low bias voltages more efficiently. Background: Sepsis-induced liver injury (SILI) is an independent risk factor for organ dysfunction and mortality in critical care units. Methods: In this study, the roles of lipocalin 2 (LCN2) in SILI were investigated because LCN2 expression was increased in liver tissues of the septic mice induced by caecal ligation and puncture (CLP), as well as in hepatocytes treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). To evaluate liver injury in mice, the levels of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were measured in both serum and liver tissues. Oxidative stress was evaluated by measuring the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione (GSH) in serum and liver samples. Additionally, ferroptosis was assessed by examining the expression of prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2), solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11), and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) in liver tissue. Results: The results demonstrated that LCN2 depletion significantly exacerbated SILI, oxidative stress, and ferroptosis. Moreover, in in vitro sepsis model, LCN2 overexpression notably ameliorated LPS-induced cell injury, oxidative stress, and ferroptosis by inhibiting PTGS2 expression. In the context of an increasingly escalating antibiotics crisis, phototherapy has emerged as a promising therapeutic approach due to its inherent advantages, including high selectivity, noninvasiveness, and low drug resistance. Photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) are two complementary and promising phototherapies albeit with inherent limitations, noted as the challenges in achieving precise heat confinement and the associated risk of off-target damage for PTT, while the constraints due to the hypoxic microenvironment are prevalent in biofilms faced by PDT. Herein, we have designed a supramolecular nanoformulation that leverages the complexation-induced quenching of guanidinium-modified calix[5]arene grafted with fluorocarbon chains (GC5AF 5 ), the efficient recognition of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and the oxygen-carrying capacity of the fluorocarbon chain. This intelligent nanoformulation enables the adaptive enhancement of both photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), allowing for on-demand switching between the two modalities. Our nanoformulation utilizes ATP released by dead bacteria to accelerate the elimination of biofilms, rendering bacteria unable to resist while minimizing harm to healthy tissues. This research highlights the particular recognition and assembly capabilities of macrocycles, offering a promising strategy for creating potent, combined antibiofilm therapies.

Osteoporosis, a prevalent systemic bone metabolic disorder, primarily affects postmenopausal women and is characterized by increased bone fragility and a heightened risk of fractures. The efficacy of current osteoporosis treatments is often limited by non-specific drug targeting and undesirable off-target skeletal side effects. To address this challenge, we have developed a novel hydroxyapatite-responsive drug delivery system. This system utilizes a self-assembled p-phosphonatocalix[4]arene tetradodecyl ether (PC4A12C), engineered to specifically target and sustain the release of osteoporosis medication at sites of bone remodeling. Our focus centers on icariin (ICA), a drug known for its potent osteogenic properties and minimal adverse effects. In vitro, ICA-loaded PC4A12C (ICA@PC4A12C) demonstrated enhanced proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). In vivo, ICA@PC4A12C exhibited superior efficacy in specifically targeting bone tissue, ensuring a controlled and slow release of icariin directly within the bone environment. In an osteoporosis mouse model, treatment with ICA@PC4A12C showed notable enhancement in osteogenic activity and a significant increase in bone density compared to ICA alone. The development of artificial receptors that combine ultrahigh-affinity binding and controllable release for active guests holds significant importance in biomedical applications. On one hand, a complex with an exceedingly high binding affinity can resist unwanted dissociation induced by dilution effect and complex interferents within physiological environments. On the other hand, stimulus-responsive release of the guest is essential for precisely activating its function. In this context, we expanded hydrophobic cavity surface of a hypoxia-responsive azocalix[4]arene, affording Naph-SAC4A. This modification significantly enhanced its aqueous binding affinity to 10 13  M -1 , akin to the naturally occurring strongest recognition pair, biotin/(strept-)avidin. Consequently, Naph-SAC4A emerges as the first artificial receptor to simultaneously integrate ultrahigh recognition affinity and actively controllable release. The markedly enhanced affinity not only improved Naph-SAC4A's sensitivity in detecting rocuronium bromide in serum, but also refined the precision of hypoxia-responsive doxorubicin delivery at the cellular level, demonstrating its immense potential for diverse practical applications., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

The use of gem-difluorinated cyclopropanes (gem-DFCPs) as fluoroallyl surrogates under transition-metal catalysis has drawn considerable attention recently but such reactions are restricted to producing achiral or racemic mono-fluoroalkenes. Herein, we report the first enantioselective allylation of indoles under rhodium catalysis with gem-DFCPs. Statement of Problem: Factors influencing early implant failure (failure during the healing period) in the rehabilitation and restoration of oral function in partially edentulous patients are unclear., Purpose: The purpose of this clinical study was to investigate several factors that may be associated with early implant failure., Material and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 3247 implants in 2061 patients between 2009 and 2022. Patient-related and surgery-related factors, including smoking; sex; diabetes; bone grafting; implant length, diameter, and design; adjacent teeth; and insertion torque, were manually retrieved and analyzed. Using univariate and multivariate analyses, a generalized estimating equation (GEE) model with chi-squared tests was employed to evaluate factors related to early implant failure (the failure before restoration) (α=.05)., Results: The mean ±standard deviation age of the study patients was 49.2 ±15.0 years (range 18 to 91). Ninety-nine implants (3.05%) failed during the healing period. Three factors were statistically significant regarding early implant failure: smoking (odds ratio [OR]=1.92, P=.008), implant design (tapered implants) (OR=1.84, P=.007), and implant length <10 mm (OR=2.98, P=.011). Factors including diabetes, bone grafting, anatomic location, adjacent teeth (endodontic therapy in the adjacent teeth and the distance between implant and adjacent teeth), healing method, and insertion torque did not exhibit a statistically significant higher early implant failure rate. Ninety-three sites with failed implants received new implants, and 6 of these 93 implants failed during the healing period., Conclusions: Within the limitation of sample size, smokers, implant length (<10 mm), and implant design (tapered implant) exhibited higher risk of early implant failure in this retrospective study. Nanomedicines often rely on noncovalent self-assembly and encapsulation for drug loading and delivery. However, challenges such as reproducibility issues due to the multicomponent nature, off-target activation caused by premature drug release, and complex pharmacokinetics arising from assembly dissociation have hindered their clinical translation. In this study, we introduce an innovative design concept termed single molecular nanomedicine (SMNM) based on macrocyclic carrier-drug conjugates. Through the covalent linkage of two chemotherapy drugs to a hypoxia-cleavable macrocyclic carrier, azocalix[4]arene, we obtained two self-included complexes to serve as SMNMs. The intramolecular inclusion feature of the SMNMs has not only demonstrated comprehensive shielding and protection for the drugs but also effectively prevented off-target drug leakage, thereby significantly reducing their side effects and enhancing their antitumor therapeutic efficacy. Additionally, the attributes of being a single component and molecularly dispersed confer advantages such as ease of preparation and good reproducibility for SMNMs, which is desirable for clinical applications.

Transition-metal catalyzed allylic substitution reactions of alkenes are among the most efficient methods for synthesizing diene compounds, driven by the inherent preference for an inner-sphere mechanism. Here, we present a demonstration of an outer-sphere mechanism in Rh-catalyzed allylic substitution reaction of simple alkenes using gem-difluorinated cyclopropanes as allyl surrogates. This unconventional mechanism offers an opportunity for the fluorine recycling of gem-difluorinated cyclopropanes via C - F bond cleavage/reformation, ultimately delivering allylic carbofluorination products. The developed method tolerates a wide range of simple alkenes, providing access to secondary, tertiary fluorides and gem-difluorides with 100% atom economy. DFT calculations reveal that the C - C bond formation goes through an unusual outer-sphere nucleophilic substitution of the alkenes to the allyl-Rh species instead of migration insertion, and the generated carbon cation then forms the C - F bond with tetrafluoroborate as a fluoride shuttle., (© 2024. Complex diseases and diverse clinical needs necessitate drug delivery systems (DDSs), yet the current performance of DDSs is far from ideal. Supramolecular interactions play a pivotal role in various aspects of drug delivery, encompassing biocompatibility, drug loading, stability, crossing biological barriers, targeting, and controlled release. Nevertheless, despite having some understanding of the role of supramolecular interactions in drug delivery, their incorporation is frequently overlooked in the design and development of DDSs. This perspective provides a brief analysis of the involved supramolecular interactions in the action of drug delivery, with a primary emphasis on the DDSs employed in the clinic, mainly liposomes and polymers, and recognized phenomena in research, such as the protein corona. The supramolecular interactions implicated in various aspects of drug delivery systems, including biocompatibility, drug loading, stability, spatiotemporal distribution, and controlled release, were individually analyzed and discussed. This perspective aims to trigger a comprehensive and systematic consideration of supramolecular interactions in the further development of DDSs. Small-ring chemistry is a fascinating field in organic chemistry. gem -Difluorinated cyclopropanes, a unique class of cyclopropanes, have garnered significant interest due to their intrinsic high reactivity. In this context, gem -difluorinated cyclopropanes have been extensively investigated as fluoroallylic synthons in Pd-catalyzed ring-opening/cross-coupling reactions for the synthesis of monofluoroalkenes with linear or branched selectivity. In contrast, Rh-catalysis has revealed diverse selectivity in the reaction of gem -difluorinated cyclopropanes, such as regioselectivity, enantioselectivity, and chemoselectivity. This feature article aims to summarize our efforts towards developing Rh-catalyzed reactions of gem -difluorinated cyclopropanes, briefly discussing the design, selectivity, reaction mechanisms and future research prospects.

Host-guest drug delivery systems (HGDDSs) provided a facile method for incorporating biomedical functions, including efficient drug-loading, passive targeting, and controlled drug release. However, developing HGDDSs with active targeting is hindered by the difficult functionalization of popular macrocycles. Herein, we report an active targeting HGDDS based on biotin-modified sulfonated azocalix[4]arene (Biotin-SAC4A) to efficiently deliver drug into cancer cells for improving anti-tumor effect. Biotin-SAC4A was synthesized by amide condensation and azo coupling. Biotin-SAC4A demonstrated hypoxia responsive targeting and active targeting through azo and biotin groups, respectively. DOX@Biotin-SAC4A, which was prepared by loading doxorubicin (DOX) in Biotin-SAC4A, was evaluated for tumor targeting and therapy in vitro and in vivo. DOX@Biotin-SAC4A formulation effectively killed cancer cells in vitro and more efficiently delivered DOX to the lesion than the similar formulation without active targeting. Therefore, DOX@Biotin-SAC4A significantly improved the in vivo anti-tumor effect of free DOX. The facilely prepared Biotin-SAC4A offers strong DOX complexation, active targeting, and hypoxia-triggered release, providing a favorable host for effective breast cancer chemotherapy in HGDDSs. Here we present a modular, chemo-, regio-, and stereoselective synthesis of fully-substituted and configuration-defined alkyl vinyl ethers (AVEs) using simple chemical feedstocks. The distinctive approach involves the chemo- and regioselective functionalization of the CF 2 unit in gem-difluorinated cyclopropanes with O-H and C-H nucleophiles in a specific order. The resulting highly functionalized cyclopropanyl ethers then undergo a stereoselective ring-opening process to produce fully-substituted and configuration-defined AVEs. These AVEs are rarely accessible through conventional methods and are easily transformable. Motivated by the excellent thermoelectric (TE) performance of bulk SnSe, extensive attention has been drawn to the TE properties of the monolayer SnSe. To uncover the fundamental mechanism of manipulating the TE performance of the SnSe monolayer, we perform a systematic study on the TE properties of five monolayer SnSe allotropes such as α -, β -, γ -, δ -, and ε -SnSe based on the density functional theory and the non-equilibrium Green's functions. By comparing the TE properties of the Na-doped SnSe allotropes with the undoped ones, the influences of the Na doping and the temperature on the TE properties are deeply investigated. It is shown that the figure of merit ZT will increase as the temperature increases, which is the same for almost all the Na-doped and undoped cases. The Na doping can enhance or suppress the ZT in different SnSe allotropes at different temperatures, implying the presence of the anomalous suppression of the ZT . The Na doping induced ZT suppression may be caused basically by the sharp decrease of the power factor and the weak decrease of the electronic thermal conductance, rather than by the decrease of the phononic thermal conductance. A fluorometric method based on boron, bromide-codoped carbon dots (BBCNs) was developed for the first time for the highly selective detection of p -nitroaniline (PNA) in wastewater samples. It should be noted that the introduction of bromine greatly increases the molecular polarizability of the probe, which can regulate the energy level matching between the probe and PNA, resulting in the interaction between BBCNs and PNA. In the presence of PNA, the fluorescence of BBCNs is obviously quenched and accompanied by a red shift of the fluorescence band, which might be attributed to the formation of aggregates caused by the polar adsorption of BBCNs and PNA. It is beneficial for constructing a highly selective sensing platform for PNA determination compared to its isomers ( o -nitroaniline and m -nitroaniline) through atomic bromine-mediated polarization of the BBCNs. With the help of this mechanism, an excellent linear range of 0.5-300 μM with a low detection limit of 0.24 μM toward PNA was obtained. This work further confirms that there is a significant relationship between the nature of doping elements and the optical and physicochemical properties of fluorescent materials.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of Jiaotai Pills on protein expression in the hippocampus of the rat model of chronic unpredictable mild stress(CUMS)-induced depression by quantitative proteomics and explore the anti-depression mechanism of Jiaotai Pills. The SD rats were randomized into control, model, Jiaotai Pills, and fluoxetine groups(n=8). Other groups except the control group were subjected to CUMS modeling for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks of continuous administration, the changes of behavior and pathological morphology of the hippocampal tissue were observed. Proteins were extracted from the hippocampal tissue, and bioinformatics analysis was performed for the differentially expressed proteins(DEPs) identified by quantitative proteomics. Western blot was employed to verify the key DEPs. The results showed that Jiaotai Pills significantly alleviated the depression behaviors and hippocampal histopathological changes in the rat model of CUMS-induced depression. A total of 5 412 proteins were identified in the hippocampus of rats, including 65 DEPs between the control group and the model group and 35 DEPs between the Jiaotai Pills group and the model group. There were 16 DEPs with the same trend in the Jiaotai Pills group and the control group, which were mainly involved in sphingolipid, AMPK, and dopaminergic synapse signaling pathways. The Western blot results of Ppp2r2b, Cers1, and Ndufv3 in the hippocampus were consistent with the results of proteomics. In conclusion, Jiaotai Pills may play an anti-depression role by modulating the levels of Ppp2r2b, Cers1, Ndufv3 and other proteins and regulating sphingolipid, AMPK, and dopaminergic synapse signaling pathways.

Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) has been widely utilized in various strategic applications. Fine-tuning properties of BN towards the desired application often involves ad-atom adsorption of modifying its geometries through creating surface defects. This work utilizes accurate DFT computations to investigate adsorption of selected 1st and 2nd row elements (H, Li, C, O, Al, Si, P, S) of the periodic table on various structural geometries of BN. The underlying aim is to assess the change in key electronic properties upon the adsorption process. In addition to the pristine BN, B and N vacancies were comprehensively considered and a large array of properties ( i.e. , atomic charges, adsorption energies, density of states) were computed and contrasted among the eight elements. For instance, we found that the band gap to vary between 0.33 eV (in case of Li) and 4.14 eV (in case of P). Likewise, we have illustrated that magnetic contribution to differ substantially depending on the adatom adsorbents. This study presents novel life cycle assessment (LCA) findings on hydrochar production from Saudi-Arabia-based date palm fronds biomass waste using hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). The LCA procedure incorporated normalization, weighting, and improvement assessment. The system boundary encompassed water consumption and energy requirements within a lab setting representing a gate-to-gate process. The OpenLCA 1.11.0 software with the European Life Cycle Database 3.2 (ELCD 3.2) was utilized for the study and we employed the ReCiPe Midpoint (H) 2016 and Environmental Footprint 3.0 (EF 3.0) impact assessment methods. The results indicated that fossil fuel usage represented the most significant impact category with the HTC and drying processes identified as major contributors. It was also observed that the HTC process exerted far greater detrimental impacts on the environment than the biomass grinding process. The overwhelming impact of fossil fuel resources could be mitigated by optimizing the batches of biomass or hydrochar samples in each operation, which could alleviate fossil fuel consumption by up to 94%. The findings emphasize the need for targeted interventions to mitigate the environmental burden and contribute to sustainable hydrochar production.

Based on first-principles density functional theory and nonequilibrium Green's function, we study the electronic band structures, the electronic transport properties, and the optical absorption of bilayer blue phosphorene nanoribbons (BPNRs). Both bilayer armchair BPNRs (a-BPNRs) and zigzag BPNRs (z-BPNRs) behave as semiconductors in the narrow nanoribbon case and metals in the wide nanoribbon case, sharply different from their monolayer counterparts where the monolayer a-BPNRs (z-BPNRs) are always semiconducting (metallic). This indicates that interlayer couplings or the increasing layer number may induce the switching of the conductivity of the monolayer BPNRs, which is absent in graphene and phosphorene nanoribbons. Furthermore, we explore the edge states of the energy bands near Fermi energy, and find that there are almost no pure edge-state band branches in the bilayer BPNRs, which can be attributed to the interlayer couplings between the edge-states in one layer and the bulk-states in the other. Consequently, the resulting complex band structures cannot be directly analyzed any more in the framework of the two-body coupling picture just according to the simple band structures of the monolayer BPNRs. Finally, we present the current-voltage characteristics and the optical absorption of the bilayer a-BPNRs and z-BPNRs. The influences of the nanoribbon width and the interlayer couplings on the current and the anisotropic optical absorption can be understood based on the complex energy band structures. This research should be an important reference of extending the field of BPNRs from the monolayer to the bilayer case, and deepen the understanding of the difference between the monolayer and bilayer nanoribbons in different materials.

We systematically investigate the thermoelectric (TE) properties of the Cr-doped blue phosphorene (blue-P) along the armchair and zigzag directions. First, we find the semiconducting band structure of the blue-P will become spin-polarized due to the Cr-doping, and can be seriously changed by the doping concentration. Then we show the Seebeck coefficient, the electronic conductance, the thermal conductance, and the figures of merit ZT s are all dependent on the transport directions and doping concentration. However, two pairs of the peaks of the charge and spin ZT s can be always observed with the low-height (high-height) pair on the side of the negative (positive) Fermi energy. In addition, at temperature 300 K the extrema of the charge (spin) ZT s of the blue-P along the two directions are kept to be larger than 22 (90) for the different doping concentrations and will be further enhanced at lower temperature. The authentication of traditional herbal medicines in powder form is of great significance, as they are always of high values but vulnerable to adulteration. Based on the distinct fluorescence of protein tryptophan, phenolic acids and flavonoids, front-face synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy (FFSFS) was applied for the fast and non-invasive authentication of Panax notoginseng powder (PP) adulterated with the powder of rhizoma curcumae (CP), maize flour (MF) and whole wheat flour (WF). For either single or multiple adulterants in the range of 5-40% w/w, prediction models were built based on the combination of unfolded total synchronous fluorescence spectra and partial least square (PLS) regression, and were validated by both five-fold cross-validation and external validation. The constructed PLS2 models simultaneously predicted the contents of multiple adulterants in PP and gave suitable results, with most of the determination coefficients of prediction (R p 2 ) >0.9, the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) no >4% and residual predictive deviation (RPD) >2. The limits of detections (LODs) were 12.0, 9.1 and 7.6% for CP, MF and WF, respectively. All the relative prediction errors for simulated blind samples were between -22% and + 23%. For thermal energy storage, the most promising method that has been considered is latent heat storage associated with molten salt mixtures as phase-change material (PCM). The binary salt mixture lithium chloride-lithium hydroxide (LiCl-LiOH) with a specific composition can store thermal energy. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no information on their thermal stability in previous literature. The key objectives of this article were to investigate the thermophysical properties, thermal repeatability, and thermal decomposition behavior of the chosen binary salt mixture. FactSage software was used to determine the composition of the binary salt mixture. Thermophysical properties were investigated with a simultaneous thermal analyzer (STA). The thermal results show that the binary salt 32 mol% LiCl-68 mol% LiOH melts within the range of 269 °C to 292 °C and its heat of fusion is 379 J/g. Thermal repeatability was tested with a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) for 30 heating and cooling cycles, which resulted in little change to the melting temperature and heat of fusion. Thermal decomposition analysis indicated negligible weight loss until 500 °C and showed good thermal stability. Chemical and structural instability was verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) by analysing the binary salt system before and after thermal treatment. A minor peak corresponding to lithium oxide was observed in the sample decomposed at 700 °C which resulted from the decomposition of LiOH at high temperature. The morphology and elemental distribution examinations of the binary salt mixture were carried out via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was conducted for surface analysis, and their elemental composition verified the chemical stability of the binary salt mixture. Overall, the results confirmed that the binary salt mixture is a potential candidate to be used as thermal energy storage material in energy storage applications of up to 500 °C.

The applications of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) essential oil (CEO) are limited by instability, low solubility and high volatility. The present study aimed to improve the properties of CEO by microencapsulation with cyclodextrin metal organic frameworks (β-CD-MOFs) to enhance the preservation effects on Chinese bacon (preserved meat products). The microencapsulated CEO by β-CD-MOFs (CEO/β-CD-MOFs) not only did not inhibit the antioxidant activities of CEO, but also showed significant improvements on their ROS scavenging abilities and thermo-/pH-stabilities. The increases of superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities were 20.74% and 12.84%, respectively. In addition, less lipid oxidation, including malondialdehyde (MDA) contents and peroxide values (POV), of Chinese bacon was found after the CEO/β-CD-MOFs treatment than CEO and synthetic antioxidant (BHT) treatments. Disturbed blood flow induces endothelial pro-inflammatory responses that promote atherogenesis. Nanoparticle-based therapeutics aimed at treating endothelial inflammation in vasculature where disturbed flow occurs may provide a promising avenue to prevent atherosclerosis. By using a vertical-step flow apparatus and a microfluidic chip of vascular stenosis, herein, it is found that the disk-shaped versus the spherical nanoparticles exhibit preferential margination (localization and adhesion) to the regions with the pro-atherogenic disturbed flow. By employing a mouse model of carotid partial ligation, superior targeting and higher accumulation of the disk-shaped particles are also demonstrated within disturbed flow areas than that of the spherical particles. In hyperlipidemia mice, administration of disk-shaped particles loaded with hypomethylating agent decitabine (DAC) displays greater anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic effects compared with that of the spherical counterparts and exhibits reduced toxicity than "naked" DAC. gem -Difluorinated cyclopropanes have attracted wide research interest in organic synthesis due to their high reactivity. Herein, we report a Lewis acid-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of mono- and disubstituted gem -difluorinated cyclopropanes with nucleophiles. The formation of a fluoroallyl cation species triggered via the Lewis acid-assisted activation of the C-F bond is proposed in this transformation. The cation species is then trapped by the nucleophiles, including electron-rich arenes and allylsilanes, to deliver a series of fluoroallylic products in good yields. The reaction provides an alternative mode for using gem -difluorinated cyclopropanes as fluoroallyl surrogates.

Microplastics (MPs) are verified to affect the fate of ammonia (NH 3 ) in agricultural soils. However, the impacts and mechanisms of MPs coupled with biochar (BC), a widely used agricultural conditioner, on NH 3 losses are mostly untapped. The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanisms of common MPs (i.e., polyethylene, polyester, and polyacrylonitrile) and straw-derived BC on NH 3 volatilization in rice-wheat rotation soils. Results showed that BC alone and MPs with BC (MPs + BC) reduced 5.5 % and 11.2-26.6 % cumulative NH 3 volatilization than the control (CK), respectively, in the rice season. The increased nitrate concentration and soil cation exchange capacity were dominant contributors to the reduced soil NH 3 volatilization in the rice season. BC and MPs + BC persistently reduced 44.5 % and 60.0-62.6 % NH 3 losses than CK in the wheat season as influenced by pH and nitrate concentration. Moreover, BC and MPs + BC increased humic acid-like substances in soil dissolved organic matter by an average of 159.1 % and 179.6 % than CK, respectively, in rice and wheat seasons. The increased adsorption of soil NH 4 + and the promotion of crop root growth were the main mechanisms of NH 3 reduction. The application of waste biomass-derived hydrochar to soil may cause extremely intensive nitrous oxide (N 2 O) fluxes that can challenge our current mechanistic understanding of the global nitrogen cycle in the biosphere. In this study, two waste biomasses were used to prepare cyanobacterial biomas-derived hydrochar (CHC) and wheat straw-derived hydrochar (SHC) for short-term incubation experiments to identify their effects and mechanisms of waste biomass-derived hydrochar on soil N 2 O efflux, with time-series samples collected for N 2 O efflux and soil analysis. The results showed that CHC and SHC caused short-term bursts of N 2 O effluxes without nitrogen inputs. Moreover, the enrichment of exogenous organics and nutrients at the hydrochar-soil interface was identified as the key factor for enhancing N 2 O fluxes, which stimulated microbial nitrification (i.e., increased gene copy number of ammonia oxidizing bacteria) and denitrification (i.e., increased gene copy number of nitrate and N 2 O reducing bacteria) processes. The concentrations of Fe (II) and hydroxyl radicals (HO • ) were 6.49 and 5.63 times higher, respectively, in the hydrochar layer of CHC than SHC amendment. Furthermore, structural equation models demonstrated that HO • , as well as soil microbiomes, played an important role in driving N 2 O fluxes. Together, our findings provide a deeper insight into the assessment and prognosis of the short-term environmental risk arising from agricultural waste management in integrated agriculture. Herein, we report an effective method to offer chiral gem -difluorinated cyclopropanes containing an all-carbon quaternary stereocenter by rhodium-catalyzed stereoablative kinetic resolution. The activation of a sterically hindered all-carbon quaternary C-C bond through oxidative addition with a chiral rhodium complex is proposed as the enantiodetermining step. A wide range of gem -difluorinated cyclopropanes can be obtained with excellent ee values (ee = 87% to >99.9%), which are demonstrated to be useful chiral fluorine-containing building blocks by a series of postfunctionalizations.

Porous carbon derived from grape marc (GM) was synthesized via carbonization and chemical activation processes. Extrinsic nitrogen (N)-dopant in GM, activated by KOH, could render its potential use in supercapacitors effective. The effects of chemical activators such as potassium hydroxide (KOH) and zinc chloride (ZnCl 2 ) were studied to compare their activating power toward the development of pore-forming mechanisms in a carbon electrode, making them beneficial for energy storage. GM carbon impregnated with KOH for activation (KAC), along with urea as the N-dopant (KAC urea ), exhibited better morphology, hierarchical pore structure, and larger surface area (1356 m 2 g -1 ) than the GM carbon activated by ZnCl 2 (ZnAC). Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) investigations showed that the presence of N-dopant on a graphite surface enhances the chemisorption of O adsorbates due to the enhanced charge-transfer mechanism. KAC urea was tested in three aqueous electrolytes with different ions (LiOH, NaOH, and NaClO 4 ), which delivered higher specific capacitance, with the NaOH electrolyte exhibiting 139 F g -1 at a 2 mA current rate. The NaOH with the alkaline cation Na + offered the best capacitance among the electrolytes studied. A multilayer perceptron (MLP) model was employed to describe the effects of synthesis conditions and physicochemical and electrochemical parameters to predict the capacitance and power outputs. The proposed MLP showed higher accuracy, with an R 2 of 0.98 for capacitance prediction.

The present study explored the mechanism of Qingwei Powder(QP) in the treatment of periodontitis based on chromatography-mass spectrometry and network pharmacology-molecular docking techniques. UPLC-Q-TOF-MS and GC-MS were used to identify the chemical constituents of QP. The active components and targets were screened out through the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform(TCMSP), and their targets were predicted using SwissTargetPrediction. Targets related to periodontitis were obtained from GeneCards, OMIM, and DisGeNET. Venn diagram was constructed using Venny 2.1 to obtain the intersection targets. Cytoscape 3.7.2 was used to construct the &quot;chemical component-target-disease&quot; network. The targets were analyzed for Gene Ontology(GO) function and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway enrichment by clusterProfiler R, and the &quot;chemical component-target-pathway&quot; network was constructed. The binding activity of the active components to the target proteins was verified by molecular docking. A total of 189 chemical components were obtained by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS and GC-MS, including 39 active components with 180 potential targets related to periodontitis. Target enrichment analysis of the active components yielded 92 KEGG pathways. Twenty KEGG pathways, 34 active components, and 99 targets were involved in the &quot;chemical component-target-pathway&quot; network. Molecular docking verified a good binding ability of the key targets to the key compounds. This study preliminarily indicates that QP is effective in treating periodontitis through multiple components, multiple targets, and multiple pathways, which reflects the complex system of Chinese medicine. This study provides the theoretical foundation for the subsequent research on the material basis and key quality attributes of QP.

Vascular endothelial cells are exposed to shear stresses with disturbed vs. laminar flow patterns, which lead to proinflammatory vs. antiinflammatory phenotypes, respectively. Effective treatment against endothelial inflammation and the consequent atherogenesis requires the identification of new therapeutic molecules and the development of drugs targeting these molecules. Using Connectivity Map, we have identified vitexin, a natural flavonoid, as a compound that evokes the gene-expression changes caused by pulsatile shear, which mimics laminar flow with a clear direction, vs. oscillatory shear (OS), which mimics disturbed flow without a clear direction. Treatment with vitexin suppressed the endothelial inflammation induced by OS or tumor necrosis factor-α. Administration of vitexin to mice subjected to carotid partial ligation blocked the disturbed flow-induced endothelial inflammation and neointimal formation. In hyperlipidemic mice, treatment with vitexin ameliorated atherosclerosis. Using SuperPred, we predicted that apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease1 (APEX1) may directly interact with vitexin, and we experimentally verified their physical interactions. OS induced APEX1 nuclear translocation, which was inhibited by vitexin. OS promoted the binding of acetyltransferase p300 to APEX1, leading to its acetylation and nuclear translocation. Functionally, knocking down APEX1 with siRNA reversed the OS-induced proinflammatory phenotype, suggesting that APEX1 promotes inflammation by orchestrating the NF-κB pathway. Animal experiments with the partial ligation model indicated that overexpression of APEX1 negated the action of vitexin against endothelial inflammation, and that endothelial-specific deletion of APEX1 ameliorated atherogenesis. Rare earth metal oxides (REMOs) have gained considerable attention in recent years owing to their distinctive properties and potential applications in electronic devices and catalysts. Particularly, cerium dioxide (CeO 2 ), also known as ceria, has emerged as an interesting material in a wide variety of industrial, technological, and medical applications. Ceria can be synthesized with various morphologies, including rods, cubes, wires, tubes, and spheres. This comprehensive review offers valuable perceptions into the crystal structure, fundamental properties, and reaction mechanisms that govern the well-established surface-assisted reactions over ceria. The activity, selectivity, and stability of ceria, either as a stand-alone catalyst or as supports for other metals, are frequently ascribed to its strong interactions with the adsorbates and its facile redox cycle. Doping of ceria with transition metals is a common strategy to modify the characteristics and to fine-tune its reactive properties. DFT-derived chemical mechanisms are surveyed and presented in light of pertinent experimental findings. Finally, the effect of surface termination on catalysis by ceria is also highlighted.

The fate of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) from polyethylene mesh knitted fabrics (PMKFs) to mulched soil and nearby plants was studied. PBDEs in the soil sample collected from Tianjin University of Commerce in April 2019 increased significantly after 6 months of PMKF mulching owing to PMKFs as the main input source. The compositional profiles/congener patterns of the PBDEs in the soil and PMKFs became similar after 6 months. High correlations were found between ΣPBDEs in the soil and PMKFs in October 2019, with no significant correlation in April. Plants could take up, accumulate and biotransform PBDEs in contaminated soil. The uptake of BDE-209 by plants was the highest compared with other lesser brominated PBDE congeners, due to its higher log Kow value and molecular weight or size. BDE-47 taken up in the plant was biotransformed via hydroxylation. These results prove that the government's PMKF solution to haze is causing environmental problems in bare soil, i.e., PBDE pollution in both soil and nearby plants. Capsanthin is the major natural carotenoid pigment in red chili pepper possessing important bioactivity. Its conventional determination method is high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with complex and tedious sample pretreatment. In this study, synchronous front-face fluorescence spectroscopy (FFFS) was applied for the fast and non-invasive detection of free capsanthin in chili powders. Although capsanthin was only weak fluorescent in solution state, it showed strong fluorescence in two separated regions in front-face geometry which could also be clearly observed in chili powders. The mechanisms of these emissions are revealed to be aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and J-aggregate formation (JAF). The free capsanthin in 85 chili powder samples were determined by HPLC as in the range of 0.6-3.0 mg/g. The total synchronous FFFS spectra of these samples were scanned. Simple first-order models were built by partial least square regression (PLSR), and were validated by 5-fold cross-validation and external validation. The coefficients of determination (R 2 ) were higher than 0.9, and the root mean square errors (RMSE) were less than 0.2 mg/g. The relative error of prediction (REP) was 9.9%, and the residual predictive deviation (RPD) was 3.7. The method was applied for the estimation of free capsanthin in several real-world samples with satisfactory analytical results. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Pepper essential oils have potential immunomodulatory, anti-tumor, and anti-cancer activities. Pepper exhibits the potential to prevent or attenuate carcinogenesis as therapeutic tools. However, the related mechanism remains unelucidated. Aim of the Study: The present study aims to provide reasonable information for the explanation of the dissimilarity of the essential oils from white (WPEO) and black pepper (BPEO). Materials and Methods: WPEO, BPEO, and their single active component, as well as synthetic antioxidants, were compared by the cell model methods and chemical methods, including intracellular antioxidant activity (CAA), total antioxidant activities (TAA), superoxide radical (SR), hydroxyl radical (HR), DPPH radical (DR) scavenging activities and inhibition ability of lipoprotein lipid peroxidation (ILLP). Results: The median effective concentration (EC 50 ) values (mg/mL) of the WPEO and BPEO of SR, HR, DR, and ILLP were 0.437 and 0.327, 0.486 and 0.204, 7.332 and 6.348, 0.688, and 0.624 mg/mL, respectively. The CAA units of WPEO and BPEO were 50.644 and 54.806, respectively. CAA, DR, and TAA of BPEO were significantly higher than those of WPEO ( p < 0.05). The BPEO and WPEO can be differentiated as the former have higher correlations with 3-carene, α-pinene, β-pinene, and limonene while the latter has a higher caryophyllene correlation. The WPEO and BPEO show a good intracellular scavenging ability of reactive oxygen species in HeLa cells. Herein, we report a rhodium catalyzed directing-group free regioselective C-H allylation of simple arenes. Readily available gem-difluorinated cyclopropanes can be employed as highly reactive allyl surrogates via a sequence of C-C and C-F bond activation, providing allyl arene derivatives in good yields with high regioselectivity under mild conditions. The robust methodology enables facile late-stage functionalization of complex bioactive molecules. The high efficiency of this reaction is also demonstrated by the high turnover number (TON, up to 1700) of the rhodium catalyst on gram-scale experiments. Objective: To investigate the repair of subepithelial nerve fibers in different areas of the cornea and the difference of corneal transparency 12 months after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE), femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) and excimer laser in situ keratomileusis (LASEK) in high myopia. Methods: A cohort study. From June 2018 to October 2019, 30 patients with high myopia (60 eyes) were selected for corneal refractive surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology, Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, including 16 females (32 eyes) and 14 males (28 eyes). According to the mode of operation, the patients were divided into the SMILE group ( n =10), FS-LASIK group ( n =11) and LASEK group ( n =9). The repair of subepithelial nerves in different areas of the cornea was observed by laser confocal microscopy 12 months after operation,and the morphological parameters were analyzed by ACCMetrics software. The parameters included corneal nerve fiber density (CNFD), corneal nerve branch density (CNBD), corneal nerve fiber length (CNFL), corneal nerve fiber total branch density (CTBD) and corneal nerve fiber width. The Pentacam anterior segment analyzer was used to measure the optical density of the cornea in different diameters. The nerve fiber parameters and corneal optical density were compared by random block analysis of variance, and multiple comparisons were performed between groups by the Turkey test. Results: Twelve months after operation, there was no significant difference in the CNFD among the three groups(all P> 0.05). The CNBD around the upper corneal incision in the SMILE group, FS-LASIK group and LASEK group was (7.81±7.93), (9.61±7.18) and (21.25±15.55) branches/mm 2 , respectively. The CTBD was (22.00±16.02), (24.44±11.42) and (54.37±22.13) branches/mm 2 , respectively. The values in the LASEK group significantly differed from the other two groups ( HSD =2.823, -3.010, 3.053, -3.048, P <0.01). The CNFL was (9.19±3.25), (12.88±3.52) and (15.75±2.36) mm/mm 2 , respectively. The value in the SMILE group was significantly different ( HSD =-3.151, -4.418; P <0.0l). The corneal optical density after SMILE was 13.16±0.72 in the 0-6 mm diameter area( HSD =-4.164, -4.489; P< 0.01), 16.12±3.18 in the 6-12 mm diameter area( HSD =-3.918, -3.493; P <0.01) and 14.06±1.36 in the total diameter ( HSD =-6.031, -5.519; P <0.01), which differed significantly from the other two groups. Conclusions: Twelve months after SMILE for high myopia, the nerve repair around the superior corneal incision is slightly worse than that after FS-LASIK and LASEK, but the nerve repair in other areas has some advantages, and the corneal transparency is better. This paper reviews the phase structures and oxidation kinetics of complex Ti-Al alloys at oxidation temperatures in the range of 600-1000 °C. The mass gain and parabolic rate constants of the alloys under isothermal exposure at 100 h (or equivalent to cyclic exposure for 300 cycles) is compared. Of the alloying elements investigated, Si appeared to be the most effective in improving the oxidation resistance of Ti-Al alloys at high temperatures. The effect of alloying elements on the mechanical properties of Ti-Al alloys is also discussed. Significant improvement of the mechanical properties of Ti-Al alloys by element additions has been observed through the formation of new phases, grain refinement, and solid solution strengthening.

Background: Polyphenols extracted from plants are usually highly unstable and rapidly transformed into various reaction products during food and drug processing, thus limiting their applications. To improve the stability and solubility of polyphenols from the leaves of Chinese star anise (Illicium verum Hook. f.), and hence to expand their application to food and medicine, the extracted anise leaf polyphenols (ALPs) were microencapsulated using β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and cyclodextrin-based metal-organic frameworks (β-CD-MOFs)., Results: The optimum inclusion rate of ALP/β-CD-MOFs was 97.80% at a core-wall ratio of 1:10. Meanwhile, the stabilities, solubilities and antioxidant activities of the polyphenols before and after inclusion were compared. The results showed both the stabilities and solubilities of ALP/β-CD-MOFs were significantly improved compared with those of ALPs and ALP/β-CD, suggesting the potential of β-CD-MOFs as newer and better carriers than β-CD for polyphenols in food industry applications. The free radical (including superoxide, hydroxyl and DPPH radicals) scavenging activities were also improved by microencapsulation. Superoxide radical scavenging reaction also showed slow-release property of ALP/β-CD-MOFs. The formation of the inclusion complex was further confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectral characterization., Conclusions: Microencapsulation with β-CD-MOFs could expand the application scope of ALPs, and it is more effective than encapsulation with β-CD. This is important for a better understanding and application of this useful traditional Chinese plant. Aim: Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a metabolic disease caused by the overproduction or underexcretion of uric acid (UA). Our previous study found that treatment with Dendrobium officinalis six nostrum (DOS) led to a significant reduction in serum UA (SUA) by inhibiting UA production and promoting UA excretion in a rat model of HUA induced by potassium oxonate (PO) and high-fat sorghum feed. In this study, we aimed to further investigate the effects of DOS on UA excretion by the kidney and intestine to explore whether DOS protects against histopathological changes, and to elucidate its possible mechanisms of action in a lipid emulsion (LE)-induced rat model of HUA., Methods: The main chemical constituents of DOS were determined to be acteoside and astilbin by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Three different doses of DOS (3.3, 6.6, and 13.2 g/kg/day) were given to rats daily after induction of HUA by oral administration of LE for 8 weeks. The levels of creatinine (Cr) in serum and urine and UA in serum, urine, and feces were measured by an automatic biochemical analyzer. The expression of TLR4, NF-κB and urate transport-related transporters (URAT1, ABCG2, and PDZK1) in kidney was measured by Western blot (WB). Intestinal urate transporters (ABCG2 and GLUT9) expression was assayed by IHC and WB. Serum LPS and renal inflammatory factors (IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α) levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining was used to assess renal histological changes., Results: DOS treatment significantly reduced the SUA and SCr levels by increasing urine volume, 24 h urine uric acid (UUA), fecal UA (FUA), urine creatinine (UCr), and fractional excretion of UA (FEUA) levels in hyperuricemic rats. Moreover, DOS effectively regulated URAT1, PDZK1, and ABCG2 protein levels in the kidney, as well as restored protein levels of GLUT9 and ABCG2 in the intestine. DOS markedly reduced serum LPS anddown-regulated renal TLR4 and NF-κB protein levels to suppress IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α secretion. It also improved renal inflammation in hyperuricemic rats. In addition, DOS attenuated histopathological changes in the kidneys of LE-induced rats. HPLC analysis showed levels of acteoside and astilbin of 1.39 mg/g and 0.72 mg/g in DOS, respectively., Conclusion: DOS has anti-hyperuricemic and anti-inflammatory effects in a rat model of HUA. The molecular mechanism appears to involve the regulation of urate transport-related transporters including renal ABCG2, URAT1, and PDZK1, and intestinal GLUT9 and ABCG2, as well as the inhibition of the LPS/TLR4/NF-κB signaling to reduce IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α secretion in hyperuricemic rats., (Copyright © 2020 The Authors. Disturbed blood flow has been recognized to promote platelet aggregation and thrombosis via increasing accumulation of von Willebrand factor (VWF) at the arterial post-stenotic sites. The mechanism underlying the disturbed-flow regulated endothelial VWF production remains elusive. Here we described a mouse model, in which the left external carotid artery (LECA) is ligated to generate disturbed flow in the common carotid artery. Ligation of LECA increased VWF accumulation in the plasma. Carotid arterial thrombosis was induced by ferric chloride (FeCl 3 ) application and the time to occlusion in the ligated vessels was reduced in comparison with the unligated vessels. In vitro , endothelial cells were subjected to oscillatory shear (OS, 0.5 ± 4 dynes/cm 2 ) or pulsatile shear (PS, 12 ± 4 dynes/cm 2 ). OS promoted VWF secretion as well as the cell conditioned media-induced platelet aggregation by regulating the intracellular localization of vesicle-associated membrane protein 3 (VAMP3) and synaptosomal-associated protein 23 (SNAP23). Disruption of vimentin intermediate filaments abolished the OS-induced translocation of SNAP23 to the cell membrane. Knockdown of VAMP3 and SNAP23 reduced the endothelial secretion of VWF. Systemic inhibition of VAMP3 and SNAP23 by treatment of mice with rapamycin significantly ameliorated the FeCl 3 -induced thrombogenesis, whereas intraluminal overexpression of VAMP3 and SNAP23 aggravated it. Co-pyrolysis of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) with polymeric materials prevails in scenarios pertinent to thermal recycling of bromine-laden objects; most notably the non-metallic fraction in e-waste. Hydro-dehalogenation of aromatic compounds in a hydrogen-donating medium constitutes a key step in refining pyrolysis oil of BFRs. Chemical reactions underpinning this process are poorly understood. Herein, we utilize accurate density functional theory (DFT) calculations to report thermo-kinetic parameters for the reaction of solid polyethylene, PE, (as a surrogate model for aliphatic polymers) with prime products sourced from thermal decomposition of BFRs, namely, HBr, bromophenols; benzene, and phenyl radical. Facile abstraction of an ethylenic H by Br atoms is expected to contribute to the formation of abundant HBr concentrations in practical systems. Likewise, a relatively low energy barrier for aromatic Br atom abstraction from a 2-bromophenol molecule by an alkyl radical site, concurs with the reported noticeable hydro-debromination capacity of PE. Pathways entailing a PE-induced bromination of a phenoxy radical should be hindered in view of high energy barrier for a Br transfer into the para position of the phenoxy radical. Adsorption of a phenoxy radical onto a Cu(Br) site substituted at the PE chain affords the commonly discussed PBDD/Fs precursor of a surface-bounded bromophenolate adduct.
