Abstract With the continuous updating and progress of medical equipment, the overdue medical device has problems such as management difficulties, resource waste, and potential security risks. Therefore, this paper used the Kohonen network algorithm to quantitatively evaluate and analyze the surplus value of overdue medical devices. In this paper, the Kohonen network algorithm was used to build a quantitative model of the surplus value of the overdue medical device, and the self-organization characteristics and data-driven learning ability of the Kohonen network were used to predict the surplus value of the equipment more accurately. Support vector machine was used to quantitatively evaluate and predict the surplus value of overdue medical devices, and further optimize the model performance, to provide more accurate and reliable decision support for medical equipment management. The Kohonen network algorithm used in this paper evaluated the correlation between the service life and maintenance cost of eight types of overdue medical devices and quantitatively predicted the surplus value of overdue medical devices with the random forest algorithm. According to the comparison of prediction bias, the maximum deviation between the expected surplus value and the actual surplus value is only 1, and the deviation value by the random forest algorithm is as low as 6, the Kohonen network algorithm in this paper has better prediction performance than the random forest algorithm. In the experiment of comparative analysis and verification by introducing the decision tree algorithm, the average error rate of the Kohonen network algorithm in this paper was only 20.57%, which was far lower than 46.34% of the random forest algorithm and 65.31% of decision tree algorithm. The Kohonen network algorithm used in this paper can effectively quantitatively evaluate and predict the surplus value of overdue medical devices, thus improving the efficiency of medical equipment management, reducing costs, and ensuring patient safety.

Abstract Background Bronchiectasis, once considered an orphan disease, is receiving attention globally owing to its increasing prevalence, healthcare burden, and associated morbidity. However, the prevalence of bronchiectasis is unclear. This meta-analysis estimates the prevalence of bronchiectasis in adults, providing a valuable reference for future research. Methods PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched from inception to May 31, 2024 for studies reporting the prevalence of bronchiectasis. Study selection, data extraction, and overall analysis of risk of the retrieved studies were conducted independently by two authors. The tool for assessing the risk of bias in prevalence studies was used to evaluate overall risk. Stata software (version 15.1) was used to performed the meta-analysis. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were conducted to identify the source of heterogeneity. Funnel plots combined with Egger’s test were used to detect publication bias. Results The pooled prevalence of bronchiectasis in adults from 15 studies covering 437,851,478 individuals was 680 per 100,000 (95% CI: 634–727 per 100,000). Subgroup analysis showed that the prevalence of bronchiectasis in the United States, Korea, and China was 478 per 100,000 (95% CI: 367–588 per 100,000), 886 per 100,000 (95% CI: 778–993 per 100,000), and 759 per 100,000 (95% CI: 35–2399 per 100,000), respectively; 467 per 100,000 (95% CI: 416–518 per 100,000) in males and 535 per 100,000 (95% CI: 477–592 per 100,000) in females; 3958 per 100,000 (95% CI: 117–12637 per 100,000), 4677 per 100,000 (95% CI: 427–8928 per 100,000), and 3630 per 100,000 (95% CI: 158–7103 per 100,000) among never-smokers, ever-smokers, and current smokers, respectively; 430 per 100,000 (95% CI: 411–450 per 100,000), 380 per 100,000 (95% CI: 374–386 per 100,000), and 351 per 100,000 (95% CI: 342–360 per 100,000) among individuals with body mass index

Abstract Background Computerized adaptive testing (CAT) is an effective way to reduce time, repetitious redundancy, and respond burden, and has been used to measure outcomes in many diseases. This study aimed to develop and validate a comprehensive disease-specific CAT for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patient-reported outcome measurement. Methods The discrimination and difficulty of the items from the modified patient-reported outcome scale for COPD (mCOPD-PRO) were analyzed using item response theory. Then the initial item, item selection method, ability estimation method, and stopping criteria were further set based on Concerto platform to form the CAT. Finally, the reliability and validity were validated. Results The item discrimination ranged from 1.05 to 2.71, and the item difficulty ranged from − 3.08 to 3.65. The measurement reliability of the CAT ranged from 0.910 to 0.922 using random method, while that ranged from 0.910 to 0.924 using maximum Fisher information (MFI) method. The content validity was good. In this study, post-heat treatments were applied to Ti–6Al–4V (TC4) alloy fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) to investigate the effects of annealing temperature (750–950 °C in 50 °C intervals) on the alloy's microstructure, residual stress and mechanical properties. The initial microstructure of as-SLMed TC4 alloy was dominated by needle-like α′ martensite with a high density of dislocations and minor β phase, resulting in high strength (1190 MPa) but limited ductility (2.2% elongation). Annealing led to the transformation of α′ martensite into α phase, with the β phase content remaining relatively stable. Increasing the annealing temperature caused the acicular martensite to evolve into bundles of coarse α laths, forming a basket-weave microstructure. Annealing at 750 °C for 2 h reduced the yield strength to 1040 MPa and improved elongation to 8.3%. Interestingly, both the strength and ductility decreased with further increases in annealing temperature. This unusual phenomenon was rarely mentioned in current literature and was considered to be associated with the abnormal variations in the Schmid factor of (0001) [11-20] slip system and the reduction of mobile dislocations within the coarsened α martensite. Additionally, annealing combined with air cooling effectively alleviated residual tensile stresses in the SLM-formed TC4 alloy.

ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to develop a sonographic technique using two-dimensional (2D) markers for detecting isolated fetal cleft palate (no cleft lip) and to evaluate the ability of 2D and three-dimensional (3D) sonography to image the normal and abnormal palate. Methods Seventy-three fetuses with a high risk of cleft palate at 12-39 weeks of gestation were referred for specialist ultrasound. A detailed evaluation of the palate was performed through 2D ultrasound, which revealed the appearance of the palatine line in the sagittal plane; the palate and alveolar ridge in the coronal plane of the fetal face; the horizontal plate of the palatine bone in the axial maxillary plane; and the soft palate in the transverse plane of the cavum pharyngis. Subsequently, 3D ultrasound imaging of the palate was performed in all fetuses. Antenatal diagnoses were compared with postnatal findings or autopsy findings. Results Visualization of 2D markers was accomplished in all fetuses, and 3D assessment was achieved in 97% of fetuses. Cleft palate was suspected in 16 cases (21.9%), among which 14 were suspected on the basis of both 2D and 3D evaluation, and two were suspected only on the basis of 3D evaluation. A normal palate was observed in 57 fetuses (78.1%). The mean gestational age was 27 weeks (range of 12 weeks to 39 weeks). All 16 fetuses with suspected cleft palate were confirmed by postnatal or autopsy findings, no false-positives were observed, and one case with a bifid uvula was missed among 57 fetuses with a presumed normal palate. Conclusions The fetal palate can be evaluated with 2D markers and 3D sonography. The detection of isolated cleft palate is more sensitive when 2D markers are present in all four planes.

Summary: Lung parenchyma destruction represents a severe condition commonly found in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Promoting lung regeneration is crucial for achieving clinical improvement. However, no therapeutic drugs are approved to improve the regeneration capacity due to incomplete understanding of the underlying pathogenic mechanisms. Here, we identify a positive feedback loop formed between adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL)-mediated lipolysis and overexpression of CD36 specific to lung epithelial cells, contributing to disease progression. Genetic deletion of CD36 in lung epithelial cells and pharmacological inhibition of either ATGL or CD36 effectively reduce COPD pathogenesis and promote lung regeneration in mice. Mechanistically, disruption of the ATGL-CD36 loop rescues Z-DNA binding protein 1 (ZBP1)-induced cell necroptosis and restores WNT/β-catenin signaling. Thus, we uncover a crosstalk between lipolysis and lung epithelial cells, suggesting the regenerative potential for therapeutic intervention by targeting the ATGL-CD36-ZBP1 axis in COPD.

Objective: The objectives of this study were to define the superiority of icariin and its derivatives' anti-inflammatory activities and to create a reference framework for evaluating preclinical evidence. This method combines machine learning and meta-analysis to identify underlying biological pathways. Methods: Data came from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. SYRCLE was used to evaluate the risk of bias in a subset of research. Meta-analysis and detailed subgroup analyses, categorized by species, genders, disease type, dosage, and treatment duration, were performed using R and STATA 15.0 software to derive nuanced insights. Employing R software (version 4.2.3) and the tidymodels package, the analysis focused on constructing a model and selecting features, with TNF-α as the dependent variable. This approach aims to identify significant predictors of drug efficacy. An in-depth literature facilitated the synthesis of anti-inflammatory mechanisms attributed to icariin and its constituent compounds. Results: Following a meticulous search and selection process, 19 studies, involving 370 and 260 animals were included in the meta-analysis and machine-learning assessment, respectively. The findings revealed that icariin and its derivatives markedly reduced inflammation markers, including TNF-α and IL-1β. Additionally, machine-learning outcomes, with TNF-α as the target variable, indicated enhanced anti-inflammatory effects of icariin across respiratory, urological, neurological, and digestive disease types. These effects were more pronounced at doses exceeding 27.52 mg/kg/day and treatment durations beyond 31.22 days. Conclusion: Strong anti-inflammatory effects are exhibited by icariiin and its derivatives, which are especially beneficial in the management of digestive, neurological, pulmonary, and urinary conditions. Effective for periods longer than 31.22 days and at dosages more than 27.52 mg/kg/day. Subsequent research will involve more targeted animal experiments and safety assessments to obtain more comprehensive preclinical evidence.

Abstract Object Bufei Yishen formula (BYF), a traditional Chinese medicine alleviates COPD symptoms and suppresses airway epithelial inflammation. In this study, we determined whether BYF protects the airway epithelial barrier from destruction in COPD rats. Methods The protective effects of BYF on the airway epithelial barrier were examined in a rat COPD model. BEAS-2B epithelial cells were exposed to cigarette smoke extract (CSE) to determine the effect of BYF on epithelial barrier function. Transcriptomic and network analyses were conducted to identify the protective mechanisms. Results Oral BYF reduced the severity of COPD in rats by suppressing the decline in lung function, pathological changes, inflammation, and protected airway epithelial barrier function by upregulating apical junction proteins, including occludin (OCLN), zonula occludens (ZO)-1, and E-cadherin (E-cad). BYF treatment reduced epithelial permeability, and increased TEER as well as the apical junction proteins, OCLN, ZO-1, and E-cad in BEAS-2B cells exposed to CSE. Furthermore, 58 compounds identified in BYF were used to predict 421 potential targets. In addition, the expression of 572 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was identified in CSE-exposed BEAS-2B cells. A network analysis of the 421 targets and 572 DEGs revealed that BYF regulates multiple pathways, of which the Sirt1, AMPK, Foxo3, and autophagy pathways may be the most important with respect to protective mechanisms. Moreover, in vitro experiments confirmed that nobiletin, one of the active compounds in BYF, increased apical junction protein levels, including OCLN, ZO-1, and E-cad. It also increased LC3B and phosphorylated AMPK levels and decreased the phosphorylation of FoxO3a. Conclusions BYF protects the airway epithelial barrier in COPD by enhancing autophagy through regulation of the SIRT1/AMPK/FOXO3 signaling pathway.

Objective To explore the mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect of Bufei Yishen Formula III combined with exercise rehabilitation (ECC-BYF III + ER) on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and further identify hub genes.Materials and Methods Gene Set Enrichment Analysis was used to identify the COPD-associated pathways and reversal pathways after ECC-BYF III + ER treatment. Protein-protein interaction network analysis and cytoHubba were used to identify the hub genes. These genes were verified using independent datasets, molecular docking and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction experiment.Results Using the high-throughput sequencing data of COPD rats from our laboratory, 49 significantly disturbed pathways were identified in COPD model compared with control group via gene set enrichment analysis (false discovery rate < 0.05). The 34 pathways were reversed after ECC-BYF III + ER treatment. In the 2306 genes of these 34 pathways, 121 of them were differentially expressed in COPD rats compared with control samples. A protein–protein interaction network comprising 111 nodes and 274 edges was created, and 34 candidate genes were identified. Finally, seven COPD hub genes (Il1b, Ccl2, Cxcl1, Apoe, Ccl7, Ccl12, and Ccl4) were well identified and verified in independent COPD rat data from our laboratory and the public dataset GSE178513. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values ranged from 0.86 to 1 and from 0.67 to 1, respectively. The reliability of the mentioned genes, which can bind to the active ingredients of ECC-BYF III through molecular docking, were further verified through qRT-PCR experiments.Conclusion Thirty-four COPD-related pathways and seven hub genes that may be regulated by ECC-BYF III + ER were identified and well verified. The findings of this study may provide insights into the treatment and mechanism underlying COPD.

Objective To assess the effects of telerehabilitation on clinical symptoms, physical function, psychological function and quality of life (QoL) in patients with post-COVID-19.Design Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCTs).Data sources PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Cochrane Library were searched for publications from 1 January 2020 to 17 April 2024.Eligibility criteria RCTs investigating the effects of telerehabilitation in patients with post-COVID-19 were included. The outcomes of interest encompassed clinical symptoms, physical function, psychological function and QoL. Only studies reported in English were included.Data extraction and synthesis Two reviewers independently extracted data and evaluated the risk of bias. Statistical analysis was conducted using Review Manager V.5.3, employing mean difference (MD) with a 95% CI, and the corresponding P value was used to ascertain the treatment effect between groups. Heterogeneity was quantified using the I2 statistic. The quality of evidence was assessed by GRADE.Results 16 RCTs (n=1129) were included in this systematic review, 15 of which (n=1095, 16 comparisons) were included in the meta-analysis. Objective: To deepen the imaging-pathological mechanism of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) and provide a theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment, the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) characteristics of PCNSL were analyzed, and the relationship between the fMRI characteristics and vasculogenic mimicry (VM) and reticular fiber in PCNSL was discussed. Methods: Ninety-six patients with PCNSL treated in our hospital were divided into three groups according to the pathological examination results, including strong positive group of VM (n = 40), weak positive group of VM (n = 56), strong positive group of reticular fiber (n = 45) and weak positive group of reticular fiber (n = 51). Catalytic performance decline is a general issue when shaping fine powder into macroscale catalysts (e.g., beads, fiber, pellets). To address this challenge, a phenolic resin-assisted strategy was proposed to prepare porous Co/N carbon beads (ZACBs) at millimeter scale via the phase inversion method followed by confined pyrolysis. Specially, p-aminophenol–formaldehyde (AF) resin-coated zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) nanoparticles were introduced to polyacrylonitrile (PAN) solution before pyrolysis. The thermosetting of the coated AF improved the interface compatibility between the ZIF-67 and PAN matrix, inhibiting the shrinkage of ZIF-67 particles, thus significantly improving the void structure of ZIF-67 and the dispersion of active species. The obtained ZACBs exhibited a 99.9% removal rate of tetracycline (TC) within 120 min, with a rate constant of 0.069 min−1 (2.3 times of ZIF-67/PAN carbon beads). The quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) tests showed that radicals dominated the reaction. This work provides new insight into the fabrication of high-performance MOF catalysts with outstanding recycling properties, which may promote the use of MOF powder in more practical applications.

Abstract Background Accurate assessment of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression status in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) before immunotherapy is crucial. We aimed to explore the reproducibility and usefulness of the quantitative apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements for predicting PD-L1expression status in NPC. Methods We retrospectively recruited 134 NPC patients who underwent MRI scans and PD-L1 detection. A PD-L1 combined positive score (CPS) ≥ 20 was identified as high expression status. Patients were divide into two cohorts based on the MRI scanning devices, including a 1.5-T MRI cohort (n = 85, 44 PD-L1 high expression) and a 3.0-T MRI cohort (n = 49, 24 PD-L1 high expression). The mean ADC (ADCmean), minimum ADC (ADCmin) and maximal ADC (ADCmax) values were independently measured by two observers. The ADC measurement reproducibility was assessed by interclass correlation coefficients (ICC). The correlations between ADC parameters and CPS were analyzed by spearman’s correlation coefficient (r), and the performance for PD-L1expression status prediction was assessed by the area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results The measurement reproducibility of ADCmean, ADCmin and ADCmax was good in the 1.5-T MRI cohort (ICC: 0.843–0.930) and 3.0-T MRI cohort (ICC: 0.929–0.960). Abstract Objective The pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) remains unclear. We sought to identify IPF-related genes that may participate in the pathogenesis and predict potential targeted traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Methods Using IPF gene-expression data, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests were performed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Protein–protein interaction (PPI) networks, hub genes, and competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks were constructed or identified by Cytoscape. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) experiments in TGF-β1-induced human fetal lung (HFL) fibroblast cells and a pulmonary fibrosis mouse model verified gene reliability. In present work, tensile behaviors of cold-rolled 304L stainless steel were investigated at both room temperature (RT) and liquid nitrogen temperature (LNT). After cold-rolling with a thickness reduction of ∼92%, the 304L stainless steel exhibits an ultrahigh yield strength of 1787 MPa at the expense of ductility (1.06% of uniform elongation) at RT. At LNT, the yield strength (upper yield point of σyu = 2308.4 MPa and lower yield point of σyl = 1894.2 MPa) and uniform elongation (23%) increase greatly. Detailed microstructural investigation reveals that the cold-rolled 304L stainless steel comprises mainly of deformation induced martensite and high density of dislocations (9.06 ×1014 m−2), leading to a lack of dislocation storage capacity and thus brittle fracture at RT. While interrupt tests at LNT reveal a first increase and then decline in dislocation density with tensile strain, accompanied with phase transformation from austenite to martensite. The delamination events also occur, characterized by the multiple separated laminated ligaments observed at fracture surface. Therefore, the high dense dislocations and transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) effect as well as delamination toughening mechanism contributes to the excellent combination of strength and ductility at LNT. Our work provides experimental and microstructural insights into the deformation mechanisms of the ∼92%-cold-rolled 304L stainless steel during tensile deformation at RT and LNT.

Abstract Background Yangqing Chenfei formula (YCF) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula for early-stage silicosis. However, the therapeutic mechanism is unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine the mechanism for the effects of YCF on early-stage experimental silicosis. Methods The anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects of YCF were determined in a silicosis rat model, which was established by intratracheal instillation of silica. The anti-inflammatory efficacy and molecular mechanisms of YCF were examined in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/interferon (IFN)-γ-induced macrophage inflammation model. Network pharmacology and transcriptomics were integrated to analyze the active components, corresponding targets, and anti-inflammatory mechanisms of YCF, and these mechanisms were validated in vitro. Results Oral administration of YCF attenuated the pathological changes, reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, inhibited collagen deposition, decreased the levels of inflammatory factors, and reduced the number of M1 macrophages in the lung tissue of rats with silicosis. YCF5, the effective fraction of YCF, significantly attenuated the inflammatory factors induced by LPS and IFN-γ in M1 macrophages. Network pharmacology analysis showed that YCF contained 185 active components and 988 protein targets, which were mainly associated with inflammation-related signaling pathways. Transcriptomic analysis showed that YCF regulated 117 reversal genes mainly associated with the inflammatory response. Integrative analysis of network pharmacology and transcriptomics indicated that YCF suppressed M1 macrophage-mediated inflammation by regulating signaling networks, including the mTOR, mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), PI3K-Akt, NF-κB, and JAK-STAT signaling pathways. In vitro studies confirmed that the active components of YCF significantly decreased the levels of p-mTORC1, p-P38, and p-P65 by suppressing the activation of related-pathways. Conclusion YCF significantly attenuated the inflammatory response in rats with silicosis via the suppression of macrophage M1 polarization by inhibiting a “multicomponent-multitarget-multipathway” network.

A high-strength-ductility 304L stainless steel with heterogeneous lamella structure (HLS) was fabricated by cold rolling and subsequent partial recrystallization. The HLS was composed of lamellar recrystallized grains (mean grain size of ∼4.1 μm) embedded in a hard matrix of ultra-fine grains (mean grain size of ∼0.65 μm) and dislocation-cell structure. It exhibited a superior cryogenic impact property compared with coarse-grained, fine-grained and cold-rolled 304L stainless steels. This was mainly attributed to the suppression of crack propagation by lamellar recrystallized grains, dislocation-cell structure and TRIP effect. In addition, the extra fracture energy was also caused by the delamination in ultra-fine grains. This work will give an important theoretical guidance for the cryogenic applications of the HLS 304L stainless steel.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the main contributors to the global burden of disease. Objectives: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the disease burden of COPD in the Chinese population and to determine the factors influencing the economic burden of the disease. Design: This is a systematic review study. Data sources and methods: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, WANGFANG Data, and VIP databases for studies regarding the disease burden of COPD in mainland China published before 31 December 2022. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s recommendation rating tool assessed the cross-sectional studies’ risk of bias. Results: A total of 45 studies were included. The disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for COPD have generally decreased in the Chinese population over the past 30 years. The total number of DALYs due to COPD in China decreased from 26.12 million person-years to 19.92 million person-years, with an annual decline rate of 0.9%. Subjects aged 40 years and older make up the majority of those with COPD in the Chinese population, and the condition is more prevalent among males than females, in rural areas than urban places, and in the West than the East. The median direct medical cost of COPD ranges from 150 to 2014 USD per capita per year. Among 23 influencing factors, age, hospitalization days, hospital type, gender, and career were the most significant variables that had an impact on the economic burden of COPD patients. Conclusion: The overall burden of COPD in China has been decreasing over the past 30 years. But there is a lack of standardized indicators for the economic burden of COPD patients in China, and it is recommended to establish a unified standard. Glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β) has been associated with sensing many different stimuli to trigger the NLRP3 inflammasome, which plays a crucial role in promoting the inflammatory response in diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Bufei Yishen formula (BYF), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, has beneficial effects on COPD. Effective-component compatibility of BYF (ECC-BYF), optimized from BYF, is equally effective as BYF in inhibiting COPD inflammation. However, the exact mechanism by which ECC-BYF regulates the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome to inhibit COPD inflammation remains unclear. Hence, we investigated the mechanisms underlying the alleviation of COPD inflammation by ECC-BYF through the inhibition of GSK3β-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation by experimental rat model of COPD and lipopolysaccharide/adenosine triphosphate (LPS/ATP) induced macrophages. The data showed that ECC-BYF significantly improved the lung function, attenuated histopathological damage, and alleviated inflammatory cell infiltration and alveolar destruction. Further, it significantly inhibited inflammatory cytokine production and downregulated the phosphorylation of GSK3β by inhibiting the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in the rat model of COPD. Moreover, ECC-BYF suppressed the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome by increasing the phosphorylation at serine 9 and decreasing the phosphorylation at tyrosine 216 of GSK3β, followed by the inhibition of IL-1β secretion in macrophages. Together, ECC-BYF effectively ameliorates COPD by suppressing inflammation, which is dependent on the regulation of GSK3β-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation.

Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) are toxic and can accumulate in the human body or the environment, resulting in biotoxic effects. Ti3C2Tx, a new class of graphene-like 2D nanomaterials, is used in numerous applications due to its special physicochemical properties. There is great concern about the potential damage that this material may cause to the environment and human health. In this study, the interaction mechanisms of Ti3C2Tx, AgNPs and Ti3C2Tx/AgNPs materials with human serum albumin (HSA) were characterized using multispectral analysis and zeta potential measurements, respectively. The results showed that the effects of the three materials on the conformational changes of HSA were AgNPs > Ti3C2Tx/AgNPs > Ti3C2Tx in order. Hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interaction forces played an important role in the binding process of Ti3C2Tx and its complexes with HSA. Ag nanoparticles have a comparatively high level of biotoxicity and have a more significant effect on the conformational changes of proteins. Ti3C2Tx itself has biocompatibility and a large specific surface area. The biotoxicity of Ti3C2Tx/AgNPs complex is lower than that of AgNPs, indicating that the addition of Ti3C2Tx can reduce the biotoxicity of Ag nanoparticles, and Ti3C2Tx may be used as a carrier substance for Ag nanoparticles, which can reduce the toxicity of AgNPs while giving it unique properties similar to those of Ti3C2Tx, thus improve the biosafety of Ag nanoparticles in the application process.

Abstract Purpose Carotid artery invasion (CAI) has been demonstrated to be an important prognosticator in some head and neck cancers. This study aimed to examine the prognostic value of radiologic CAI (rCAI) by cervical lymphadenopathy in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods NPC patients treated between January 2013 and December 2016 were included. Pre-treatment MRIs were reviewed for cervical rCAI according to the radiologic criteria. Univariate and multivariate models were constructed to assess the association between cervical rCAI and clinical outcomes. A new N classification system was proposed and compared to the 8th AJCC system. Results The percentage of patients with MRI-positive lymph nodes was 84.7% (494/583), of whom cervical rCAI cases accounted for 42.3% (209/494). Heterogeneous laminates are developed to address the trade-off between strength and ductility, but interface cracking is a major concern. In this work, a heterostructured copper-brass laminate with 20 layers was successfully prepared by diffusion welding + cold rolling + annealing (DRA) technique. The obtained copper-brass laminate was composed of brass layers with fine grains and copper layers with coarse grains. During diffusion welding, a transition layer was found between copper and brass layers, with composition, grain size and hardness gradient. With the help of the gradient transition layer (GTL), the bonding strength of the welding interface is so high that cannot be torn apart during peeling test. The GTL plays important role in coordinating plastic deformation and relaxing stress concentration. An excellent combination of strength and ductility was realized in the copper-brass laminates, which can be attributed to the unique GTL and high density of heterogeneous interfaces. Moreover, the GTL with hardness gradient can prevent micro-cracks from initiating at interfaces, and avoid macro-crack propagating along the welding interface or coarse/fine grained heterogeneous interface.

Abstract Background Since 2020, novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has posed serious threats to health systems and led to tremendous economic decline worldwide. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is considered a promising treatment strategy for COVID-19 in China and is increasingly recognized as a key participant in the battle against COVID-19. Clinicians also need accurate evidence regarding the effectiveness of TCM treatments for COVID-19. Methods We retrospectively analyzed patients diagnosed with COVID-19 by collected from the electronic medical records of the hospitals in Henan Province from January 19, 2020, to March 2, 2020. Demographic characteristics, clinical data, frequency analysis of Chinese patent medicines (CPMs), Chinese medicine injections (CMIs), evaluation of baseline symptom scores, nucleic acid negative conversion, length of hospitalization, and mortality rates were studied. Results Between 15 January 2020 and 2 March 2020, 131 hospitals with 1245 patients were included. Survey response Chinese herbal decoction, CPMs, and CMIs combined with conventional Western medicine (CWM) used for the treatment of COVID-19. The top 8 CPMs were Lianhua Qingwen capsules, Shuanghuanglian oral liquid, Pudilan Xiaoyan oral liquid, Banlangen granules, Lanqin oral liquid, compound licorice tablets, Bailing capsules, montmorillonite powder. The most frequently used CMIs were Xuebijing, Tanreqing, Reduning, Xiyanping and Yanhuning. TCM combined with CWM improved the patients’ symptom scores for fever, cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Nucleic acid negative conversion occurred at11.55 ± 5.91 d and the average length of hospitalization was 14.92 ± 6.15 d. The mortality rate was approximately 1.76%, which is a reduction in patient mortality. Conclusions TCM combined with CWM improved clinical symptoms and reduced hospitalization and mortality rates.

Soil amendments play a crucial role in modern agriculture, as they effectively enhance the planting environment. This study innovatively proposes the use of gel as a crosslinking agent to embed biochar and hydroxyapatite (HAP), thereby preparing a novel soil amendment. Furthermore, this study investigates the soil improvement effects of this amendment as well as its influence on plant growth. This study employed a hydrothermal method to combine corn stalk (CB) or sludge (SB) biochar with HAP at different ratios (0–20%). Subsequently, sodium alginate gel (SA) was utilized to encapsulate the biochar and minerals, successfully forming a ternary composite gel material (corn stalk biochar/sludge biochar–sodium alginate gel-hydroxyapatite: CB/SB-SA-HAP). Finally, the practical effectiveness of this amendment was verified through potted soil experiments. The results indicate that the CB/SB-SA-HAP composite materials exhibited a micrometre-scale spherical structure with well-developed micropores and possess the functional groups of CB/SB, SA, and HAP, along with unique mineral properties. Through pot experiments, it was verified that the composite material effectively enhances multiple soil properties. After 21 days of cultivation, the soil pH values stabilized within the neutral range (pH = 7 ± 0.3) across all treatment groups. Except for the CB0 (CB:HAP = 1:0) and CB2.0 (CB:HAP = 1:2) treatments, the remaining treatments significantly reduced the soil EC values by 3.27% to 47.92%. All treatments significantly increased the contents of alkali-hydrolysable nitrogen (AHN) (34.89~57.91%), available phosphorus (AP) (35.93~56.55%), and available potassium (AK) (36.41~56.80%) in the soil. In comparison, although the SB treatment was more effective in regulating the pH and electrical conductivity (EC) of saline–alkali soil than the CB treatment, it was less effective in promoting plant growth in the short term. Through correlation analysis and redundancy analysis, a significant positive correlation was found between soil pH and ryegrass germination rate and plant height, particularly with the most pronounced impact on soil pH observed in the CB1.0 and SB0 (SB:HAP = 1:0) treatments. This study underscores the potential of CB/SB-SA-HAP composite materials in soil improvement and plant growth promotion, providing valuable insights for soil remediation, enhancement, and plant cultivation advancements in the agricultural sector.

Background: The readmission rate following hospitalization for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is surprisingly high, and frequent readmissions represent a higher risk of mortality and a heavy economic burden. However, information on all-cause readmissions in patients with COPD is limited. Objective: This study aimed to systematically summarize all-cause COPD readmission rates within 30 and 90 days after discharge and their underlying risk factors. Methods: Eight electronic databases were searched to identify relevant observational studies about COPD readmission from inception to 1 August 2022. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used for methodological quality assessment. We adopt a random effects model or a fixed effects model to estimate pooled all-cause COPD readmission rates and potential risk factors. Results: A total of 28 studies were included, of which 27 and 8 studies summarized 30- and 90-day all-cause readmissions, respectively. The pooled all-cause COPD readmission rates within 30 and 90 days were 18% and 31%, respectively. The World Health Organization region was initially considered to be the source of heterogeneity. We identified alcohol use, discharge destination, two or more hospitalizations in the previous year, and comorbidities such as heart failure, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, anemia, cancer, or tumor as potential risk factors for all-cause readmission, whereas female and obesity were protective factors. Conclusions: Patients with COPD had a high all-cause readmission rate, and we also identified some potential risk factors. Therefore, it is urgent to strengthen early follow-up and targeted interventions, and adjust or avoid risk factors after discharge, so as to reduce the major health economic burden caused by frequent readmissions. Trial registration: This systematic review and meta-analysis protocol was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (no. CRD42022369894).

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is one of the most common infectious diseases, and its morbidity and mortality increase with age. Resistance and mutations development make the use of anti-infective therapy challenging. Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) are often used to treat CAP in China and well tolerable. However, currently there are no evidence-based guideline for the treatment of CAP with CPMs, and the misuse of CPMs is common. Therefore, we established a guideline panel to develop this guideline. We identified six clinical questions through two rounds of survey, and we then systematically searched relevant evidence and performed meta-analyses, evidence summaries and GRADE decision tables to draft recommendations, which were then voted on by a consensus panel using the Delphi method. Finally, we developed ten recommendations based on evidence synthesis and expert consensus. For the treatment of severe CAP in adults, we recommend Tanreqing injection, Reduning injection, Xuebijing injection, Shenfu injection, and Shenmai injection respectively. For the treatment of non-severe CAP in adults, we recommend Tanreqing injection, Reduning injection, Lianhua Qingwen capsule/granule, Qingfei Xiaoyan Pill and Shufeng Jiedu capsule respectively. CPMs have great potential to help in the fight against CAP worldwide, but more high-quality studies are still needed to strengthen the evidence.

It is essential to assess the cancer risk for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Comparing gene expression data from patients with lung cancer (a total of 506 samples) and those with cancer-adjacent normal lung tissues (a total of 370 samples), we generated a qualitative transcriptional signature consisting of 2046 gene pairs. The signature was verified in an evaluation dataset comprising 18 subjects with severe disease and 52 subjects with moderate disease (Wilcoxon rank-sum test; p = 7.33 × 10−5). Similar results were obtained in other independent datasets. Among the gene pairs in the signature, 326 COPD stage-related gene pairs were identified based on Spearman’s rank correlation tests and those gene pairs comprised 368 unique genes. Of these 368 genes, 16 genes were significantly dysregulated in COPD rat model data compared with control data. Some of these genes (Dhx16, Upf2, Notch3, Sec61a1, Dyrk2, and Hmmr) were altered when the COPD rat model was treated with traditional Chinese medicines (TCM), including Bufei Yishen formula, Bufei Jianpi formula, and Yiqi Zishen formula. Overall, the signature could predict the cancer incidence-risk of COPD and the identified key genes might provide guidance regarding both the treatment of COPD using TCM and the prevention of cancer in patients with COPD. KEY MESSAGESA cancer risk assessment signature was identified in patients with COPD.The signature is insensitive to batch effects and is well verified.COPD key genes identified in this study might play a crucial role in TCM treatment and cancer prevention.

In this work, heterostructured duplex stainless steel consisting of fine-grained austenite and bimodal-grained ferrite was prepared by heavy cold rolling and 2-min annealing at 1050 °C. The tailored steel achieved an excellent combination of high strength with a yield stress of ∼710 MPa and high ductility with a tensile elongation of ∼43%. The results revealed that the plastic incompatibilities between the constituent phases arising from the microstructural heterogeneity contributed to the significant partitioning of plastic strain, and the respectable strength–ductility synergy was attributed to hetero-deformation induced strengthening and strain hardening.

Background The Effectiveness Satisfaction Questionnaire for COPD (ESQ-COPD) previously developed by us based on classical test theory has proven to have some limitations. The combination use of classical test theory and item response theory may achieve complementary advantages, which may be a theoretical basis and methodological support for the development or revision of instruments. Objective To develop a modified ESQ-COPD (mESQ-COPD) based on the combination of disease and syndrome, and to evaluate its psychometric properties. Methods By predefining basic characteristics of the instrument, normalizing the essential concepts and terminologies, revising the conceptual framework, generating an item pool, and reviewing the items, the draft of the mESQ-COPD was developed by our revision group. Then the draft was improved to be a mESQ-COPD by screening items based on the results of a pretest conducted during October 2017 to February 2018 with a convenience sample of 265 stable COPD patients from the respiratory clinic of 10 grade A tertiary hospitals in China, in combination with item screening using the classical test theory and item response theory. After that, the psychometric properties of the mESQ-COPD were tested using an onsite investigation carried out in a convenience sample of 365 stable COPD patients from the respiratory clinic of six grade A tertiary hospitals in China from November 2018 to February 2019. Results The final mESQ-COPD includes four domains (clinical symptoms, capabilities for work and life, ability of environmental adaptation, and therapeutic effect) and 19 items. The Cronbach's α of the questionnaire was 0.949, and that of the four domains was 0.943, 0.869, 0.829, and 0.767, respectively. The correlation coefficient between the domain of clinical symptoms, capabilities for work and life, ability of environmental adaptation, or therapeutic effect and its component items ranged from 0.667 to 0.798, 0.855 to 0.882, 0.795 to 0.907, or 0.857 to 0.934, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the comparative fit index, incremental fit index, non-normed fit index, standardized root mean square residual, and root mean square error of approximation measuring the construct validity of the mESQ-COPD were 0.94, 0.94, 0.93, 0.07, and 0.16, respectively. The correlation coefficients of the mESQ-COPD and its domains with COPD assessment test ranged from 0.371 to 0.538, while those of the mESQ-COPD and its domains with the modified Medical Research Council scale ranged from 0.329 to 0.564. Inverted Oil-immersed Current Transformer (CT) is an important electrical equipment in the power system, which plays the role of current conversion and voltage isolation, also plays an indispensable role in the stable operation of the power system. Studies have shown that hydrogen is the earliest and easiest produced gas in the discharge and overheating faults of CTs, and hydrogen is also considered an early signal of equipment failure. In order to study the distribution and diffusion of hydrogen under typical defects of CTs, this paper established a 110 kV CT electric-thermal-flow multi-physics coupling three-dimensional simulation model. Using the method of finite element analysis, the internal temperature field of the CT and the distribution and diffusion of hydrogen are obtained. At the same time, an CT test platform is established to verify the accuracy and validity of the simulation results.

IntroductionPotentilla anserina (Potentilla anserina L.), also known as ginseng fruit, is a plant that can be used as both medicine and food. Potentilla anserina L. has high medical value in Chinese medicine, such as strengthening the spleen and stomach, replenishing qi and blood, and astringing hemostasis.MethodsIn this study, polysaccharides of Potentilla anserina L. were extracted from the root using an enzyme-assisted extraction method. According to the principle of Box–Behnken design, response surface methodology was designed to optimize the extraction conditions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the structure and appearance of Potentilla anserina L. polysaccharides. The monosaccharide composition of Potentilla anserina L. polysaccharides was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. The antioxidant activities were also studied.ResultsUnder the optimal extraction conditions (the ratio of solid to liquid, 1:15; ratio of cellulase to pectinase, 1:2; extraction pH, 8.0; enzyme reaction temperature, 60°C), the extraction yield of Potentilla anserina L. polysaccharides was 19.80 ± 0.01%, equal to the model prediction value 19.84%. The data of Fourier transform infrared spectrum, scanning electron microscopy, and high-performance liquid chromatography showed that the Potentilla anserina L. polysaccharide was a kind of α-pyran polysaccharide, mainly consisting of galactose, glucose, rhamnose, and arabinose. The antioxidant results showed that Potentilla anserina L. polysaccharides had a strong hydroxyl radical scavenging ability (IC50 = 0.367 mg/mL), superoxide anion scavenging ability (IC50 = 45.017 mg/mL), and a certain degree of total reducing ability.DiscussionEnzyme-assisted extraction is an efficient method to extract Potentilla anserina L. polysaccharides. The Potentilla anserina L. polysaccharides could have potential use in functional foods as a natural antioxidant.

IntroductionChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a complex disease involving inflammation, cell senescence, and autoimmunity. Dialectical treatment for COPD with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has the advantage of fewer side effects, more effective suppression of inflammation, and improved immune function. However, the biological base of TCM pattern differentiation in COPD remains unclear.MethodsLiquid Chromatography-Quadrupole-Orbitrap mass spectrometry (LC-Q-Orbitrap MS/MS) based metabolomics and lipidomics were used to analyze the serum samples from COPD patients of three TCM patterns in Lung Qi Deficiency (n=65), Lung-Kidney Qi Deficiency (n=54), Lung-Spleen Qi Deficiency (n=52), and healthy subjects (n=41). Three cross-comparisons were performed to characterize metabolic markers for different TCM patterns of COPD vs healthy subjects.ResultsWe identified 28, 8, and 16 metabolites with differential abundance between three TCM patterns of COPD vs healthy subjects, respectively, the metabolic markers included cortisol, hypoxanthine, fatty acids, alkyl-/alkenyl-substituted phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylcholine, etc. Three panels of metabolic biomarkers specific to the above three TCM patterns yielded areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.992, 0.881, and 0.928, respectively, with sensitivity of 97.1%, 88.6%, and 91.4%, respectively, and specificity of 96.4%, 81.8%, and 83.9%, respectively.DiscussionCombining metabolomics and lipidomics can more comprehensively and accurately trace metabolic markers. As a result, the differences in metabolism were proven to underlie different TCM patterns of COPD, which provided evidence to aid our understanding of the biological basis of dialectical treatment, and can also serve as biomarkers for more accurate diagnosis.

Background: Baojin Chenfei formula (BCF), a Chinese herbal formula, has significant effects on improving the clinical symptoms of patients with silicosis. However, its active compounds and the underlying mechanisms have not yet fully been elucidated. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the underlying mechanisms of BCF in treating silicosis. Methods: The rat model of silicosis was developed via a single intratracheal instillation of SiO2 suspension to examine the therapeutic impacts of BCF on silicosis. Subsequently, the active compounds, targets, and mechanisms of BCF were analyzed based on serum pharmacochemistry and network analysis. Finally, the underlying mechanisms of representative compounds of BCF were validated in vitro experiments. Results: BCF significantly alleviated SiO2-induced silicosis in rats, evidenced by improved lung function, decreased pathological injury, and reduced inflammatory response and fibrosis. 19 active compounds were identified from the rat serum samples after BCF gavage. Subsequently, 299 targets for these 19 compounds in BCF and 257 genes related to silicosis were collected. 26 overlapping targets, including AKT1, TNF, IL6, MAPK3, EGFR, and others, were obtained from the intersection of the 299 BCF-related targets and 257 silicosis-associated genes. These overlapping targets mainly corresponded to glycyrrhetic acid and paeoniflorin and were mainly associated with positive regulation of smooth muscle cell proliferation, positive regulation of MAP kinase activity, and inflammatory response. In vitro experiments also demonstrated that the representative compounds of BCF (glycyrrhetic acid and paeoniflorin) could suppress inflammatory response by the MAPK pathway, and also inhibited fibroblast activation by the EGFR-PI3K-AKT pathway. Conclusion: Active compounds of BCF, such as glycyrrhetic acid and paeoniflorin, could suppress inflammatory response by the MAPK pathway and suppress fibroblast activation by the EGFR-PI3K-AKT pathway. These might be the mechanisms of BCF in treating silicosis.

Cathodic reduction is a green and promising remediation strategy for reducing the antibacterial activity of antibiotic contaminants and increasing their biodegradability. However, the lack of cost-effective electrocatalysts has restricted its application. In this study, we upcycled textile white mud by separating 1,4-dicarboxybenzene (BDC) and fabricating MIL-125(Ti)-derived amorphous TiO2@C (TiO2@C-W) as a functional electrocatalyst. The separated BDC from white mud shows lower crystallinity than BDC chemicals, but the resulting TiO2@C-W features a much higher degree of oxygen vacancies and a 25-fold higher specific surface area than that of TiO2@C derived from BDC chemicals. With florfenicol (FLO) as a probe, TiO2@C-W exhibits similar cathodic reductive activity (0.017 min−1) as commercial Pd(3 wt.%)/C (0.018 min−1) does, which was 1.4 and 3.7 times higher than that of oxygen vacancy-engineered TiO2 and TiO2@C, respectively. The as-fabricated TiO2@C-W could not easily remove FLO via the oxygen reduction reaction-based pathway with the applied bias for cathodic reduction. Though the activity of TiO2@C-W undergoes a slight decline with continuous running, more than 80% of 20 mg L−1 FLO can still be reduced in the eighth run. Water chemistry studies suggest that a lower initial solution pH boosts the cathodic reduction process, while common co-existing anions such as Cl−, NO3−, HCO3−, and SO32− show a limited negative impact. Finally, TiO2@C-W shows reductive activity against several representative antibiotics, including nitrofurazone, metronidazole, and levofloxacin, clarifying its potential scope of application for antibiotics (e.g., molecules with structures like furan rings, nitro groups, and halogens). This study couples the upcycling of textile white mud with the remediation of antibiotics by developing functional electrocatalysts, and offers new insights for converting wastes from the printing and dyeing industry into value-added products.

The TCM-based syndrome treatment effectiveness assessment scale could provide a basis for objectively evaluating the effectiveness of syndrome-based treatment and enrich the evaluation system of TCM treatment results. There are no unified and standardized methods for developing this kind of scale. In accordance with the international standards for developing a scale and ideas for developing a scale for assessing TCM treatment results as well as features of the TCM syndrome, and the experience of developing Syndrome Therapeutic Evaluation Scale of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, we proposed the general process 〔including seven main parts (forming a research group, pre-designing the basic characteristics of the scale, constructing a framework and item pool, screening the items, forming a draft form of the scale, determining the weight of the items, and test of the scale) , and three key techniques (data mining technology based on association rules and latent structure analysis, item screening based on classical test theory and item response theory, and item weighting based on random forest, factor analysis, and percent weight) 〕 for developing a TCM-based syndrome treatment effectiveness assessment scale, hoping to offer guidance for other relevant studies.

In this paper,a high strength Al-4.82Mg-0.75Sc-0.49Mn-0.28Zr (Al–Mg-Sc-Mn) alloy was prepared by selective laser melting (SLM). The effects of laser power on microstructures, relative density, and mechanical properties of SLM-fabricated Al–Mg-Sc-Mn alloy were studied. The results shown that the bimodal structure with an ultra-equiaxed grain and columnar crystal is formed in Slammed-fabricated Al–Mg-Sc-Mn alloy. The columnar crystal is surrounded by ultra-fine equiaxed crystal, and the columnar crystal shows (001) preferred orientation, the ultra-fine equiaxed structure shows no anisotropy in SLM-fabricated alloy. With increase of laser power, the molten pool size increases during SLM process, and the samples relative density and hardness decrease as laser power increase. The relative density of SLM-fabricated Al–Mg-Sc-Mn alloy is 99.74% under the process parameters of laser power 310W and scanning speed 1200 mm/s, and the hardness of alloy is as high as 107.73 ± 1.27 HV. The tensile strength of SLM-fabricated Al–Mg-Sc-Mn alloy samples are all higher than 400 MPa, and elongations are more than 19%. The fracture morphology of SLM-fabricated Al–Mg-Sc-Mn alloy is a typical ductile fracture feature, which shows a high comprehensive mechanical property. Supersaturated solid solution is formed in Al–Mg-Sc-Mn alloy because of rapid cooling during SLM process, resulting in grain refinement and improvement of mechanical properties. Fine-grain strengthening and second phase strengthening are the main reasons for the improvement of mechanical properties of SLM-fabricated Al–Mg-Sc-Mn alloy.

Abstract Background To determine the incidence, clinical and MRI features of sacral insufficiency fracture (SIF) after radiotherapy (RT) in patients with cervical cancer. Methods Our study included 167 patients with cervical cancer after radiotherapy that underwent pelvic MRI for follow-up. MRIs included pre-enhanced T1-weighted, coronal fat-Suppressed T2-weighted (FS-T2W) and enhanced T1-weighted imaging. The clinical and MRI dates were reviewed. The gold standard of SIF was based on radiologic findings, clinical data and follow-up at least 12 months. Results 28 patients (10.8%) with 47 sites were diagnosed with SIFs, including 9 patients with unilateral SIF and 19 patients with bilateral SIFs. The median age was 60 years (range 41–72 years), and 89.3% (25/28) of patients were postmenopausal. 64.3% (18/28) of patients were symptomatic, and 53.6% of patients (15/28) had concomitant pelvic fractures. The median interval time from RT to SIFs was 10 months (range 3–34 months). For the lesion-wise analysis based on all MR images, all lesions were detected by visualizing bone marrow edema patterns, and fracture lines were detected in 64.6% (31/47) of SIFs. No soft-tissue tumors were founded. For each MRI sequence analysis, coronal FS-T2WI detected the most bone marrow edema pattern and fracture line than T1WI or enhanced T1WI. Conclusion SIF is a common complication in cervical cancer after radiotherapy, which has some certain clinical and MRI features. Coronal FS-T2WI may be more useful to detect and characterize these fractures than other imaging sequences.

In this work, the formation mechanism of surface nano-grains was explored for a 316L stainless steel processed by a rotationally accelerated shot peening (RASP). The microstructural evolution below the processed surface was observed to reveal the refining behavior during the continuous impact deformation. The results showed that deformation ultrafine-twins were easily generated by one high-speed impact with the strain rate of ∼102–103 s−1. As it was impacted by the second ball, ultrafine-twin-twin intersections were appeared in the coupled domain, which was attributed to the accumulated strain induced by twice impacts, activating the bidirectional twinning. Twin–twin intersection can effectively divide the coarse-grains into smaller structures. When the impact number further increased, the average thickness of deformation twins decreased, and resulted in segmentation of original structures. Eventually, nano-grains were formed by nano-twin-twin intersections in the topmost surface. The average grain size of nano-grains is ∼30 nm. The current work clearly exhibited the surface microstructural evolution and revealed that twin-twin intersection was the dominated nanocrystallization mechanism for RASP-processed 316L stainless steel.

Objective: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) has been considered to be an effective treatment method for various respiratory diseases. However, the effects of exercise-based PR on patients with severe/very severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are unclear. This review aimed to investigate the effects of exercise-based PR on patients with severe/very severe COPD. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases were searched from inception to December 23, 2022, without language restrictions. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of exercise-based PR on patients with severe/very severe COPD were included. Study selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment were conducted independently. RevMan software (version 5.3) was used for meta-analysis. The quality of evidence was rated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system. Results: Six studies (263 patients) were identified. Compared with the control group, the 6-min walking distance [MD = 52.91, 95% CI (3.80, 102.03)], the St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire total scores [MD = −7.70, 95% CI (−14.32, −1.08)] and the Borg scale scores [MD = −0.68, 95% CI (−1.28, −0.08)] in the experimental group improved, respectively. The St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire and Borg scale scores were rated as ‘moderate quality’ and ‘low quality’, respectively, and the 6-min walking distance was rated as ‘very low quality’. Conclusions: Exercise-based PR may improve the exercise capacity, quality of life and dyspnea of patients with severe/very severe COPD, which can be regarded as an adjuvant treatment. High quality and large sample RCTs are needed. Registration: This systematic review and meta-analysis protocol was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (No. CRD42022294085).

Abstract A high voltage current transformer of the inverted type is a commonly used measurement equipment in power grids. The thermal behaviour of the current transformer has a significant impact on its operating conditions and is directly related to its service life. The study presents a three‐dimensional simulation model of a 220 kV inverted‐type oil‐immersed current transformer, and the fluid and temperature field are analysed by the finite volume method. The simulation results show that the hot‐spot temperature under the rated load of the calculation model introduced in the study is 61.5°C, and located at the upper part of the core and the secondary winding. An experiment setup was designed to measure the temperature distribution inside a LVB‐220W3‐type current transformer. The temperature data measured under the rated load indicate that the simulation results agree well with the experimental results.

The embryo in maize has a critical role in controlling kernel nutrition components and grain yield. We measured five embryo weight and size traits, six kernel weight and size traits, and five embryo-to-kernel ratio traits in a nested association mapping (NAM) population of 611 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from four inbred lines including the high-oil, giant-embryo line BY815 as the common parent. Using three statistical methods, we identified 5–22 quantitative trait loci (QTL) for each trait, explaining 4.7%–46.7% of the phenotypic variation. The genetic architecture of maize embryo size and its related traits appeared to be dominated by multiple small-effect loci with little epistasis, and the genetic control underlying embryo size appeared to be distinct from that underlying kernel size. A trait–QTL association network included 205 nodes and 439 edges and revealed 28 key loci associated with at least three traits. Cloned maize genes including ZmUrb2, Emp12 and ZmBAM1d, maize orthologs of known rice genes that control seed size including BG1, XIAO and GS9, and 11 maize orthologs of Arabidopsis EMBRYO-DEFECTIVE (EMB) genes were identified as underlying these key loci. Further, the phenotypic and genetic relationships between embryo size and kernel size were evaluated, and genetic patterns for identified loci that control embryo size and its related traits were proposed. Our findings reveal distinct genetic architectures for embryo size, kernel size, and embryo-to-kernel ratio traits and establish a foundation for the improvement of embryo-size-mediated kernel nutrition and grain yield.
