We report the physical properties of ThRu$_3$Si$_2$ featured with distorted Ru kagome lattice. The combined experiments of resistivity, magnetization and specific heat reveal bulk superconductivity with $T_{\rm{c}}$ = 3.8 K. The specific heat jump and calculated electron-phonon coupling indicate a moderate coupled BCS superconductor. In comparison with LaRu$_3$Si$_2$, the calculated electronic structure in ThRu$_3$Si$_2$ shows an electron-doping effect with electron filling lifted from 100 meV below flat bands to 300 meV above it. This explains the lower superconducting transition temperature and weaker electron correlations observed in ThRu$_3$Si$_2$. The opening of an energy gap in the electronic structure generally indicates the presence of interactions. In materials with low carrier density and short screening length, long-range Coulomb interaction favors the spontaneous formation of electron-hole pairs, so-called excitons, opening an excitonic gap at the Fermi level. Excitonic materials host unique phenomenons associated with pair excitations. However, there is still no generally recognized single-crystal material with excitonic order, which is, therefore, awaited in condensed matter physics. Here, we show that excitonic states may exist in the quasi-one-dimensional material Ta$_2$Pd$_3$Te$_5$, which has an almost ideal Dirac-like band structure, with Dirac point located exactly at Fermi level. We find that an energy gap appears at 350 K, and it grows with decreasing temperature. The spontaneous gap opening is absent in a similar material Ta$_2$Ni$_3$Te$_5$. Intriguingly, the gap is destroyed by the potassium deposition on the crystal, likely due to extra-doped carriers. Furthermore, we observe a pair of in-gap flat bands, which is an analog of the impurity states in a superconducting gap. All these observations can be properly explained by an excitonic order, providing Ta$_2$Pd$_3$Te$_5$ as a new and promising candidate realizing excitonic states., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

A Dirac nodal-line phase, as a quantum state of topological materials, usually occur in three-dimensional or at least two-dimensional materials with sufficient symmetry operations that could protect the Dirac band crossings. Here, we report a combined theoretical and experimental study on the electronic structure of the quasi-one-dimensional ternary telluride TaPtTe$_5$, which is corroborated as being in a robust nodal-line phase with fourfold degeneracy. Our angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements show that two pairs of linearly dispersive Dirac-like bands exist in a very large energy window, which extend from a binding energy of $\sim$ 0.75 eV to across the Fermi level. The crossing points are at the boundary of Brillouin zone and form Dirac-like nodal lines. Using first-principles calculations, we demonstrate the existing of nodal surfaces on the $k_y = \pm \pi$ plane in the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC), which are protected by nonsymmorphic symmetry in TaPtTe$_5$. When SOC is included, the nodal surfaces are broken into several nodal lines. By theoretical analysis, we conclude that the nodal lines along $Y$-$T$ and the ones connecting the $R$ points are non-trivial and protected by nonsymmorphic symmetry against SOC., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication as a Regular Article in Physical Review B

The quest for quantum materials with diverse symmetry-protected topological states has been the focus of recent research interest, primarily due to their fascinating physical properties and the potential technological utility. In this work, we report on the magnetotransport, de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) oscillations, and the first-principles calculations of the stannide Cu$_3$Sn that is isostructural with the recently reported topological semimetal Ag$_3$Sn. The magnetoresistance was found to vary quasi-linearly in field. Clear dHvA oscillations were observed under a field as low as 1 Tesla at 2 K, with three major oscillation frequencies $F_{\alpha}$=8.74 T, $F_{\beta}$=150.19 T and $F_{\gamma}$=229.66 T and extremely small effective masses. The analysis of dHvA quantum oscillations revealed a possible nonzero Berry phase, suggestive of the nontrivial band topology. The corroborating evidence for the nontrivial electronic topology also comes from the first-principles calculations which yield a nonzero $\mathbb{Z}_2$ topological index. These results collectively suggest that Cu$_3$Sn, in analogy to its homologue Ag$_3$Sn, may be another intermetallic stannide hosting topological Dirac fermions., Comment: 4 figures, 1 table

Because of the unique physical properties and potential applications, the exploration of quantum materials with diverse symmetry-protected topological states has attracted considerable interest in the condensed-matter community in recent years. Most of the topologically nontirvial materials identified thus far have two-dimensional or three-dimensional structural characteristics, while the quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) analogs are rare. Here we report on anisotropic magnetoresistance, Hall effect, and quantum de Haas$-$van Alphen (dHvA) oscillations in TaPtTe$_5$ single crystals, which possess a layered crystal structure with quasi-1D PtTe$_2$ chains. TaPtTe$_5$ manifests an anisotropic magnetoresistance and a nonlinear Hall effect at low temperatures. The analysis of the dHvA oscillations reveals two major oscillation frequencies (63.5 T and 95.2 T). The corresponding light effective masses and the nonzero Berry phases suggest the nontrivial band topology in TaPtTe$_5$, which is further corroborated by the first-principles calculations. Our results suggest that TaPtTe$_5$, in analogy with its sister compounds TaPdTe$_5$ and TaNiTe$_5$, is another quasi-1D material hosting topological Dirac fermions., Comment: There are some errors in the current vertion. We report the synthesis and systematic studies of a new layered ternary telluride TaPdTe5 with quasi-one-dimensional PdTe2 chains. This compound crystalizes in a layered orthorhombic structure with space group Cmcm. Analysis of its curved field-dependent Hall resistivity, using the two-band model, indicates the hole-dominated transport with a high mobility ${\mu}_h$ = 2.38 $\times$ 10$^3$ cm$^2$ V$^{-1}$ s$^{-1}$ at low temperatures. The in-plane magnetoresistance (MR) displays significant anisotropy with field applied along the crystallographic $b$ axis. The MR with the current applied along the $c$-axis is also measured in high magnetic fields up to 51.7 T. Remarkably, it follows a power-law dependence and reaches (9.5 $\times$ 10$^3$)% at 2.1 K without any signature of saturation. The De Haas-van Alphen oscillations show a small Fermi-surface pocket with a nontrivial Berry phase. The Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscillations are detected at low temperatures and under magnetic fields above 28.5 T. Two effective masses $m^*$ (0.26$m_e$ and 0.41$m_e$) are extracted from the oscillatory SdH data. Our first-principles calculations unveil a topological Dirac cone in its surface states, and, in particular, the topological index indicates that TaPdTe$_5$ is a topologically nontrivial material., Comment: 12 pages,6 figures

The iron-based superconductors represent a promising platform for high-temperature superconductivity, but the interactions underpinning their pairing present a puzzle. The EuFe$_2$As$_2$ family is unique among these materials for having magnetic order which onsets within the superconducting state, just below the superconducting transition. Superconductivity and magnetic order are normally antagonistic and often vie for the same unpaired electrons, but in this family the magnetism arises from largely localized Eu moments and they coexist, with the competition between these evenly-matched opponents leading to reentrant superconducting behavior. To help elucidate the physics in this family and the interactions between the magnetic order and superconductivity, we investigate the $H$--$T$ phase diagram near optimal Rh doping through specific heat, resistivity, and magnetization measurements, and study the electronic structure by angular-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We report Eu-local-spin magnetism and Ni-doping-induced superconductivity (SC) in a 112-type ferroarsenide system Eu(Fe$_{1-x}$Ni$_{x}$)As$_2$. The non-doped EuFeAs$_2$ exhibits two primary magnetic transitions at $\sim$100 and $\sim$ 40 K, probably associated with a spin-density-wave (SDW) transition and an antiferromagnetic ordering in the Fe and Eu sublattices, respectively. Two additional successive transitions possibly related to Eu-spin modulations appear at 15.5 and 6.5 K. For the Ni-doped sample with $x$ = 0.04, the SDW transition disappears, and SC emerges at $T_\mathrm{c}$ = 17.5 K. The Eu-spin ordering remains at around 40 K, followed by the possible reentrant magnetic modulations with enhanced spin canting. Consequently, SC coexists with a weak spontaneous magnetization below 6.2 K in Eu(Fe$_{0.96}$Ni$_{0.04}$)As$_2$, which provides a complementary playground for the study of the interplay between SC and magnetism., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, 1 table

Spontaneous vortex phase (SVP) is an exotic quantum matter in which quantized superconducting vortices form in the absence of external magnetic field. Although being predicted theoretically nearly 40 years ago, its rigorous experimental verification still appears to be lacking. Here we present low-field magnetic measurements on single crystals of the iron-based ferromagnetic superconductor Eu(Fe$_{0.91}$Rh$_{0.09}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$ which undergoes a superconducting transition at $T_\mathrm{sc}$ = 19.6 K followed by a magnetic transition at $T_\mathrm{m}$ = 16.8 K. We observe a characteristic first-order transition from a Meissner state within $T_\mathrm{m}

We present a broadband optical-conductivity study of superconducting single-crystalline EuFe2(As1-xPx)2 with three different substitutional levels. We analyze the normal-state electrodynamics by decomposing the conductivity spectra using a Drude-Lorentz model with two Drude terms representing two groups of carriers with different scattering rates. The analysis reveals that the scattering rate of at least one of the Drude components develops linearly with temperature for each doping level. This points towards strong electron-electron correlations and a non-Fermi-liquid behavior in the P-substituted superconducting Eu-122 pnictides. We also detect a transfer of the spectral weight from mid-infrared to higher frequencies and assign it to the Hund's-rule coupling between itinerant and localized carriers. The conductivity spectra below the superconducting transition show no sharp features to be associated with the dirty-limit superconducting BCS gaps. We interpret these results in terms of clean-limit superconductivity in EuFe2(As1-xPx)2. The best parametrization fit can be achieved using a two-gap model. We find that the larger gap at the hole pockets of the Fermi surface is likely to be isotropic, while the smaller gap at the electron pockets is anisotropic or even nodal., Comment: to be published in Physica Status Solidi B - Special Issue on Iron Pnictides

Superconductivity (SC) and ferromagnetism (FM) are in general antagonistic, which makes their coexistence very rare. Following our recent discovery of robust coexistence of SC and FM in RbEuFe$_4$As$_4$ [Y. Liu et al., arXiv: 1605.04396 (2016)], here we report another example of such a coexistence in its sister compound CsEuFe$_4$As$_4$, synthesized for the first time. The new material exhibits bulk SC at 35.2 K and Eu$^{2+}$-spin ferromagnetic ordering at 15.5 K, demonstrating that it is a new robust ferromagnetic superconductor., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

We discover a robust coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism in an iron arsenide RbEuFe$_4$As$_4$. The new material crystallizes in an intergrowth structure of RbFe$_2$As$_2$ and EuFe$_2$As$_2$, such that the Eu sublattice turns out to be primitive instead of being body-centered in EuFe$_2$As$_2$. The FeAs layers, featured by asymmetric As coordinations, are hole doped due to charge homogenization. Our combined measurements of electrical transport, magnetization and heat capacity unambiguously and consistently indicate bulk superconductivity at 36.5 K in the FeAs layers and ferromagnetism at 15 K in the Eu sublattice. Interestingly, the Eu-spin ferromagnetic ordering belongs to a rare third-order transition, according to the Ehrenfest classification of phase transition. We carried out the measurements of magnetoresistance, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat on crystals of the low-dimensional transition metal telluride Ta$_4$Pd$_3$Te$_{16}$. Our results indicate that Ta$_4$Pd$_3$Te$_{16}$ is an anisotropic type-II superconductor with the extracted Ginzburg-Landau parameter $\kappa_{\text{GL}}=$ 84. The upper critical field $H_{c2}$($T$) shows a linear dependence at low temperature and the anisotropy of $H_{c2}$($T$) is strongly $T$-dependent, both of which indicate a multiband scenario. A detailed analysis reveals that the electronic specific heat $C_{\text{el}}$($T$) can be consistently described by a two-gap ($s$+$d$ waves) model from the base temperature $T/T_c\sim$ 0.12 up to $T_c$. Our data suggests multiband superconductivity in Ta$_4$Pd$_3$Te$_{16}$ with anisotropic gap structure., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Superconductivity in low-dimensional compounds has long attracted much interest. Here we report superconductivity in a low-dimensional ternary telluride Ta4Pd3Te16 in which the repeating layers contain edge-sharing octahedrally-coordinated PdTe2 chains along the crystallographic b axis. Measurements of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat on the Ta4Pd3Te16 crystals, grown via a self-flux method, consistently demonstrate bulk superconductivity at 4.6 K. Further analyses of the data indicate significant electron-electron interaction, which allows electronic Cooper pairing in the present system., Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures

Superconductivity (SC) and charge-density wave (CDW) are two contrasting yet relevant collective electronic states which have received sustained interest for decades. Here we report that, in a layered europium bismuth sulfofluoride, EuBiS$_2$F, a CDW-like transition occurs at 280 K, below which SC emerges at 0.3 K, without any extrinsic doping. The Eu ions were found to exhibit an anomalously temperature-independent mixed valence of about +2.2, associated with the formation of CDW. The mixed valence of Eu gives rise to self electron doping into the conduction bands mainly consisting of the in-plane Bi-6$p$ states, which in turn brings about the CDW and SC. In particular, the electronic specific-heat coefficient is enhanced by ~ 50 times, owing to the significant hybridizations between Eu-4$f$ and Bi-6$p$ electrons, as verified by band-structure calculations. Thus, EuBiS$_2$F manifests itself as an unprecedented material that simultaneously accommodates SC, CDW and $f$-electron valence instability., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

We have performed an isovalent substitution study in a layered titanium oxypnictide system BaTi$_{2}$(Sb$_{1-x}$Bi$_{x}$)$_{2}$O (0$\leq x\leq$ 0.40) by the measurements of x-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility. The parent compound BaTi$_{2}$Sb$_{2}$O is confirmed to exhibit superconductivity at 1.5 K as well as charge- or spin-density wave (CDW/SDW) ordering below 55 K. With the partial substitution of Sb by Bi, the lattice parameters $a$, $c$ and $c/a$ all increase monotonically, indicating negative chemical pressure and lattice distortion on the (super)conducting Ti$_2$Sb$_2$O-layers. The Bi doping elevates the superconducting transition temperature to its maximum $T_c$=3.7 K at $x=$0.17, and then $T_c$ decreases gradually with additional Bi doping. A metal-to-nonmetal transition takes place around $x$=0.3, and superconductivity at $\sim$1K exists at the nonmetal side. The CDW/SDW anomaly, in comparison, is rapidly suppressed by the Bi doping, and vanishes for $x\geq$0.17. Heavily doped Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$Mn$_{2}$As$_{2}$ ($x$=0.19 and 0.26) single crystals were successfully grown, and investigated by the measurements of resistivity and anisotropic magnetic susceptibility. In contrast to the antiferromagnetic insulating ground state of the undoped BaMn$_{2}$As$_{2}$, the K-doped crystals show metallic conduction with weak ferromagnetism below $\sim$50 K and Curie-Weiss-like in-plane magnetic susceptibility above $\sim$50 K. Under high pressures up to 6 GPa, the low-temperature metallicity changes into a state characterized by a Kondo-like resistivity minimum without any signature of superconductivity above 2.5 K. Electronic structure calculations for $x$=0.25 using $2\times2\times1$ supercell reproduce the hole-doped metallic state. The density of states at Fermi energy have significant As 4$p$ components, suggesting that the 4$p$ holes are mainly responsible for the metallic conduction. Our results suggest that the interplay between itinerant 4$p$ holes and local 3$d$ moments is mostly responsible for the novel metallic state., Comment: Some data were re-arranged and/or added, 8 figures
