Fine root traits span two independent axes of variation, the conservation and collaboration axes, which define the root economic space (RES). However, whether early‐stage fine root decomposition rates (quantified as proportion mass loss, i.e. pml) are more strongly related to collaboration or conservation traits remains unclear.We studied 63 tree species in New Zealand's temperate rain forest. We determined the phylogenetic signal in pml and fine root traits, conducted phylogenetic principal component analysis and used phylogenetic generalized least squares to determine which traits are most strongly related to pml.Root decomposition exhibited a high phylogenetic signal and was more strongly related to the conservation than the collaboration axis. Root tissue density (RTD) was negatively correlated and root nitrogen (RN) was positively correlated with pml. Root diameter was positively yet weakly correlated with pml, but specific root length was uncorrelated with pml. The lignin‐to‐N ratio and root cellulose were the strongest predictors of pml.Synthesis: Early‐stage fine root decomposition is most strongly driven by tissue quality traits, such as root nitrogen, tissue density and lignin‐to‐N ratio, which all align with the conservation axis of the root economics space. However, root diameter plays a weak yet undeniable role in early‐stage fine root decomposition. Some thick‐rooted species decomposed faster, possibly due to the higher quality cortical tissue. Thin‐rooted species decomposed slower, possibly because of their higher cellulose concentration that maintains the structural integrity of small diameter roots. Relationships between decomposition and other traits that align with the collaboration gradient deserve further study across the phylogeny of vascular plants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article explores the advantages of collaborative consortia in enhancing the development of the postdoctoral workforce. Postdoctoral training acts as a link between doctoral research and future career prospects, but many postdocs encounter difficulties in collaborative research and transitioning to nonacademic roles. The authors propose that postdoctoral consortia, which consist of faculty researchers and postdoctoral scholars united by a common theme, can help address these challenges. They suggest that federal funding agencies should invest in and offer institutional support for more interdisciplinary, cohort-based postdoctoral research programs. The consortium model transforms the research landscape to be more inclusive, flexible, and conducive to collaborative discoveries. The article examines the benefits and obstacles of postdoctoral training in consortium models. Faculty labs benefit from access to a network of postdoctoral expertise for collaboration and mentoring. Consortium models also provide remote opportunities, making positions accessible to postdocs with relocation constraints. The collaborative and cross-disciplinary nature of consortia promotes open science practices and cultivates skills necessary for future careers. However, challenges include high turnover, balancing collaborative and individual projects, and fostering a sense of community. Insufficient forage supply from natural rangelands during the dry season hampers ruminants' performance in the derived savanna zone of Nigeria. Therefore, to provide alternative feed resources, we evaluated silage potential of Columbus grass (Sorghum almum Parodi) at boot, dough and maturity stages for 4‐, 8‐, 12‐ and 16‐week ensiling durations, in a 3 × 4 factorial experiment. The dry matter yield (DMY) was determined at each harvest stage, and the forages were subsequently ensiled. The results revealed that the DMY of S. almum at maturity was 8.98% and 18.67% higher than at dough and boot stages, respectively (p < 0.05). The silages were ranked "good silage" based on physical characteristics. Silage pH decreased with advancing ensiling duration from 4 to 16 weeks in boot (5.25–4.63), dough (5.63–4.11) and maturity (5.42–4.91), with a corresponding increase in lactic and volatile fatty acids. Crude protein (CP) was higher in forages ensiled at maturity and increased with ensiling duration after initial decline from 4 to 8 weeks. Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and hemicellulose increased quadratically from boot to dough and subsequently declined at maturity. Growth stage, ensiling duration and their interactions influenced the macrominerals' content (p < 0.05). Silages' dry matter intake (DMI) declined from boot to dough stage across the ensiling durations, and except for 8 weeks, the DMI increased at maturity by 6.71%, 5.54% and 7.19% in 4, 12 and 16 weeks, respectively. Therefore, owing to the lower NDF and high DMY, CP and DMI of S. almum ensiled at maturity for 16 weeks, it could guarantee a quantitative and qualitative forage supply to maintain optimum animal performance throughout the dry season. Background: The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of infirmity and disease. Researchers and clinicians have mainly focused on health outcomes that are physically or laboratory measured. These, however, do not reflect how the affected individual feels and functions in daily life. This study assessed the psychological and stigma profiles of patients attending HIV clinics in a North-central State of Nigeria., Methods: The study design was descriptive cross-sectional. A total of 384 HIV-positive patients who were systematically recruited at 5 public service delivery sites in Ilorin, Kwara State, North-central Nigeria participated in the study. Data was analyzed using SPSS software version 20.0. Level of significance was pre-determined at P value < 0.05 at a confidence level of 95%., Results: Fifty-nine percent of respondents reported being anxious about their condition and 25.5% felt depressed. Eighty-six percent received adherence counselling and 82.3% received psychological care from support groups. In the psychological domain, majority (74.5%) of the respondents had high health-related quality of life (HRQoL). There was a statistically significant association between employment status and psychological domain of HRQoL. As regards stigma, majority experienced high stereotype stigma (73.7%) and 67.2% experienced high stigma as pertains disclosure., Conclusion: Health workers should promote psychological support of HIV patients, for example, in form of support groups and adherence counseling.
