We analyze the recent data from the BESIII collaboration on the $X(3872)$ state in the $J/\psi\pi^+\pi^-$ and $D^0\bar{D}^0\pi^0$ decay channels. The quantum number and mass of the $X(3872)$ state allow us to exploit the universal feature of the very near-threshold $D\bar D^*$ scattering in the $S$ wave. The analysis of $J/\psi\pi^+\pi^-$ data and $D^0\bar{D}^0\pi^0$ data separately as well as the combined analysis of these data together, all support the conclusion that $X(3872)$ is an extremely weakly bound charm meson molecule., Comment: pdflatex, 15 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables

Face authentication systems have brought significant convenience and advanced developments, yet they have become unreliable due to their sensitivity to inconspicuous perturbations, such as adversarial attacks. Existing defenses often exhibit weaknesses when facing various attack algorithms and adaptive attacks or compromise accuracy for enhanced security. To address these challenges, we have developed a novel and highly efficient non-deep-learning-based image filter called the Iterative Window Mean Filter (IWMF) and proposed a new framework for adversarial purification, named IWMF-Diff, which integrates IWMF and denoising diffusion models. These methods can function as pre-processing modules to eliminate adversarial perturbations without necessitating further modifications or retraining of the target system. We demonstrate that our proposed methodologies fulfill four critical requirements: preserved accuracy, improved security, generalizability to various threats in different settings, and better resistance to adaptive attacks. Deep-learning-based identity management systems, such as face authentication systems, are vulnerable to adversarial attacks. However, existing attacks are typically designed for single-task purposes, which means they are tailored to exploit vulnerabilities unique to the individual target rather than being adaptable for multiple users or systems. This limitation makes them unsuitable for certain attack scenarios, such as morphing, universal, transferable, and counter attacks. In this paper, we propose a multi-task adversarial attack algorithm called MTADV that are adaptable for multiple users or systems. By interpreting these scenarios as multi-task attacks, MTADV is applicable to both single- and multi-task attacks, and feasible in the white- and gray-box settings. Furthermore, MTADV is effective against various face datasets, including LFW, CelebA, and CelebA-HQ, and can work with different deep learning models, such as FaceNet, InsightFace, and CurricularFace. Importantly, MTADV retains its feasibility as a single-task attack targeting a single user/system. Deriving a unique cryptographic key from biometric measurements is a challenging task due to the existing noise gap between the biometric measurements and error correction coding. Additionally, privacy and security concerns arise as biometric measurements are inherently linked to the user. Biocryptosystems represent a key branch of solutions aimed at addressing these issues. However, many existing bio-cryptosystems rely on handcrafted feature extractors and error correction codes (ECC), often leading to performance degradation. To address these challenges and improve the reliability of biometric measurements, we propose a novel biometric cryptosystem named WiFaKey, for generating cryptographic keys from face in unconstrained settings. Speciffcally, WiFaKey ffrst introduces an adaptive random masking-driven feature transformation pipeline, AdaMTrans. AdaMTrans effectively quantizes and binarizes realvalued features and incorporates an adaptive random masking scheme to align the bit error rate with error correction requirements, thereby mitigating the noise gap. Besides, WiFaKey incorporates a supervised learning-based neural decoding scheme called Neural-MS decoder, which delivers a more robust error correction performance with less iteration than non-learning decoders, thereby alleviating the performance degradation. We evaluated WiFaKey using widely adopted face feature extractors on six large unconstrained and two constrained datasets. On the LFW dataset, WiFaKey achieved an average Genuine Match Rate of 85.45% and 85.20% at a 0% False Match Rate for MagFace and AdaFace features, respectively. Our comprehensive comparative analysis shows a signiffcant performance improvement of WiFaKey. The source code of our work is available at github.com/xingbod/WiFaKey.

In the circuit quantum electrodynamics architectures, to realize a long-range quantum network mediated by flying photon, it is necessary to shape the temporal profile of emitted photons to achieve high transfer efficiency between two quantum nodes. In this work, we demonstrate a new single-rail and dual-rail time-bin shaped photon generator without additional flux-tunable elements, which can act as a quantum interface of a point-to-point quantum network. In our approach, we adopt a qubit-resonator-transmission line configuration, and the effective coupling strength between the qubit and the resonator can be varied by parametrically modulating the qubit frequency. In this way, the coupling is directly proportional to the parametric modulation amplitude and covers a broad tunable range beyond 20 MHz for the sample we used. Additionally, when emitting shaped photons, we find that the spurious frequency shift (-0.4 MHz) due to parametric modulation is small and can be readily calibrated through chirping. We develop an efficient photon field measurement setup based on the data stream processing of GPU. Utilizing this system, we perform photon temporal profile measurement, quantum state tomography of photon field, and quantum process tomography of single-rail quantum state transfer based on a heterodyne measurement scheme. The single-rail encoding state transfer fidelity of shaped photon emission is 90.32%, and that for unshaped photon is 97.20%, respectively. We believe that the fidelity of shaped photon emission is mainly limited by the qubit coherence time. The results demonstrate that our method is hardware efficient, simple to implement, and scalable. It could become a viable tool in a high-quality quantum network utilizing both single-rail and dual-rail time-bin encoding.

Determining dense feature points on fingerprints used in constructing deep fixed-length representations for accurate matching, particularly at the pixel level, is of significant interest. To explore the interpretability of fingerprint matching, we propose a multi-stage interpretable fingerprint matching network, namely Interpretable Fixed-length Representation for Fingerprint Matching via Vision Transformer (IFViT), which consists of two primary modules. The first module, an interpretable dense registration module, establishes a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based Siamese Network to capture long-range dependencies and the global context in fingerprint pairs. It provides interpretable dense pixel-wise correspondences of feature points for fingerprint alignment and enhances the interpretability in the subsequent matching stage. The second module takes into account both local and global representations of the aligned fingerprint pair to achieve an interpretable fixed-length representation extraction and matching. It employs the ViTs trained in the first module with the additional fully connected layer and retrains them to simultaneously produce the discriminative fixed-length representation and interpretable dense pixel-wise correspondences of feature points. Extensive experimental results on diverse publicly available fingerprint databases demonstrate that the proposed framework not only exhibits superior performance on dense registration and matching but also significantly promotes the interpretability in deep fixed-length representations-based fingerprint matching., Comment: ready to submit to IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (TIFS)

In this research, we introduce the concept of "computational entanglement," a phenomenon observed in overparameterized feedforward linear networks that enables the network to achieve zero loss by fitting random noise, even on previously unseen test samples. Analyzing this behavior through spacetime diagrams reveals its connection to length contraction, where both training and test samples converge toward a shared normalized point within a flat Riemannian manifold. Moreover, we present a novel application of computational entanglement in transforming a worst-case adversarial examples-inputs that are highly non-robust and uninterpretable to human observers-into outputs that are both recognizable and robust. This provides new insights into the behavior of non-robust features in adversarial example generation, underscoring the critical role of computational entanglement in enhancing model robustness and advancing our understanding of neural networks in adversarial contexts., Comment: abstract updated

This paper introduces the united monocular-stereo features into a visual-inertial tightly coupled odometry (UMS-VINS) for robust pose estimation. UMS-VINS requires two cameras and a low-cost inertial measurement unit (IMU). The UMS-VINS is an evolution of VINS-FUSION, which modifies the VINS-FUSION from the following three perspectives. 1) UMS-VINS extracts and tracks features from the sub-pixel plane to achieve better positions of the features. 2) UMS-VINS introduces additional 2-dimensional features from the left and/or right cameras. 3) If the visual initialization fails, the IMU propagation is directly used for pose estimation, and if the visual-IMU alignment fails, UMS-VINS estimates the pose via the visual odometry. The performances on both public datasets and new real-world experiments indicate that the proposed UMS-VINS outperforms the VINS-FUSION from the perspective of localization accuracy, localization robustness, and environmental adaptability.

This paper presents a range-aided LiDAR-inertial multi-vehicle mapping system (RaLI-Multi). Firstly, we design a multi-metric weights LiDAR-inertial odometry by fusing observations from an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a light detection and ranging sensor (LiDAR). The degenerate level and direction are evaluated by analyzing the distribution of normal vectors of feature point clouds and are used to activate the degeneration correction module in which range measurements correct the pose estimation from the degeneration direction. We then design a multi-vehicle mapping system in which a centralized vehicle receives local maps of each vehicle and range measurements between vehicles to optimize a global pose graph. The global map is broadcast to other vehicles for localization and mapping updates, and the centralized vehicle is dynamically fungible. Finally, we provide three experiments to verify the effectiveness of the proposed RaLI-Multi. The results show its superiority in degeneration environments

For many years, strongly and weakly constrained approaches were the only options to deal with errors in four-dimensional variational data assimilation (4DVar), with the aim of balancing the degrees of freedom and model constraints. Strong model constraints were imposed to reduce the degrees of freedom encountered when optimizing the strongly constrained 4DVar problem, and it was assumed that the models were perfect. The weakly constrained approach sought to distinguish initial errors from model errors, and to correct them separately using weak model constraints. Our proposed i4DVar* method exploits the hidden mechanism that corrects initial and model errors simultaneously in the strongly constrained 4DVar. The i4DVar* method divides the assimilation window into several sub-windows, each of which has a unique integral and flow-dependent correction term to simultaneously handle the initial and model errors over a relatively short period. To overcome the high degrees of freedom of the weakly constrained 4DVar, for the first time we use ensemble simulations not only to solve the 4DVar optimization problem, but also to formulate this method. Thus, the i4DVar* problem is solvable even if there are many degrees of freedom. We experimentally show that i4DVar* provides superior performance with much lower computational costs than existing methods, and is simple to implement., Comment: 27 pages, 6 figures

Face recognition based on the deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) shows superior accuracy performance attributed to the high discriminative features extracted. Yet, the security and privacy of the extracted features from deep learning models (deep features) have been often overlooked. This paper proposes the reconstruction of face images from deep features without accessing the CNN network configurations as a constrained optimization problem. Such optimization minimizes the distance between the features extracted from the original face image and the reconstructed face image. Instead of directly solving the optimization problem in the image space, we innovatively reformulate the problem by looking for a latent vector of a GAN generator, then use it to generate the face image. The GAN generator serves as a dual role in this novel framework, i.e., face distribution constraint of the optimization goal and a face generator. On top of the novel optimization task, we also propose an attack pipeline to impersonate the target user based on the generated face image. Our results show that the generated face images can achieve a state-of-the-art successful attack rate of 98.0\% on LFW under type-I attack @ FAR of 0.1\%. Our work sheds light on the biometric deployment to meet the privacy-preserving and security policies.

Low-light image enhancement - a pervasive but challenging problem, plays a central role in enhancing the visibility of an image captured in a poor illumination environment. Due to the fact that not all photons can pass the Bayer-Filter on the sensor of the color camera, in this work, we first present a De-Bayer-Filter simulator based on deep neural networks to generate a monochrome raw image from the colored raw image. Next, a fully convolutional network is proposed to achieve the low-light image enhancement by fusing colored raw data with synthesized monochrome raw data. Channel-wise attention is also introduced to the fusion process to establish a complementary interaction between features from colored and monochrome raw images. To train the convolutional networks, we propose a dataset with monochrome and color raw pairs named Mono-Colored Raw paired dataset (MCR) collected by using a monochrome camera without Bayer-Filter and a color camera with Bayer-Filter. The proposed pipeline take advantages of the fusion of the virtual monochrome and the color raw images and our extensive experiments indicate that significant improvement can be achieved by leveraging raw sensor data and data-driven learning.

Hashing technology gains much attention in protecting the biometric template lately. For instance, Index-of-Max (IoM), a recent reported hashing technique, is a ranking-based locality sensitive hashing technique, which illustrates the feasibility to protect the ordered and fixed-length biometric template. However, biometric templates are not always in the form of ordered and fixed-length, rather it may be an unordered and variable size point set e.g. fingerprint minutiae, which restricts the usage of the traditional hashing technology. In this paper, we proposed a generalized version of IoM hashing namely gIoM, and therefore the unordered and variable size biometric template can be used. We demonstrate a realization using a well-known variable size feature vector, fingerprint Minutia Cylinder-Code (MCC). The gIoM transforms MCC into index domain to form indexing-based feature representation. Consequently, the inversion of MCC from the transformed representation is computational infeasible, thus to achieve non-invertibility while the performance is preserved. Public fingerprint databases FVC2002 and FVC2004 are employed for experiment as benchmark to demonstrate a fair comparison with other methods. Moreover, the security and privacy analysis suggest that gIoM meets the criteria of template protection: non-invertibility, revocability, and non-linkability.

The majority of adversarial attack techniques perform well against deep face recognition when the full knowledge of the system is revealed (\emph{white-box}). However, such techniques act unsuccessfully in the gray-box setting where the face templates are unknown to the attackers. In this work, we propose a similarity-based gray-box adversarial attack (SGADV) technique with a newly developed objective function. SGADV utilizes the dissimilarity score to produce the optimized adversarial example, i.e., similarity-based adversarial attack. This technique applies to both white-box and gray-box attacks against authentication systems that determine genuine or imposter users using the dissimilarity score. To validate the effectiveness of SGADV, we conduct extensive experiments on face datasets of LFW, CelebA, and CelebA-HQ against deep face recognition models of FaceNet and InsightFace in both white-box and gray-box settings. The results suggest that the proposed method significantly outperforms the existing adversarial attack techniques in the gray-box setting. Simulation of quantum computing on supercomputers is a significant research topic, which plays a vital role in quantum algorithm verification, error-tolerant verification and other applications. Tensor network contraction based on density matrix is an important single-amplitude simulation strategy, but it is hard to execute on the distributed computing systems currently. In this paper, we dive deep into this problem, and propose a scheme based on cutting edges of undirected graphs. This scheme cuts edges of undirected graphs with large tree width to obtain many undirected subgraphs with small tree width, and these subgraphs contracted on different computing cores. The contraction results of slave cores are summarized in the master node, which is consistent with the original tensor network contraction. Thus, we can simulate the larger scale quantum circuit than single core. Moreover, it's an NP-hard problem to find the global optimum cutting edges, and we propose a search strategy based on a heuristic algorithm to approach it. In order to verify the effectiveness of our scheme, we conduct tests based on QAOA algorithm, and it can simulate 120-qubit 3-regular QAOA algorithm on 4096-core supercomputer, which greatly exceeds the simulation scale on a single core of 100-qubit., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a Systematic Inter-Component Communication Analysis Technology (SIAT) consisting of two key modules: \emph{Monitor} and \emph{Analyzer}. As an extension to the Android operating system at framework layer, the \emph{Monitor} makes the first attempt to revise the taint tag approach named TaintDroid both at method-level and file-level, to migrate it to the app-pair ICC paths identification through systemwide tracing and analysis of taint in intent both at the data flow and control flow. By taking over the taint logs offered by the \emph{Monitor}, the \emph{Analyzer} can build the accurate and integrated ICC models adopted to identify the specific threat models with the detection algorithms and predefined rules. Meanwhile, we employ the models' deflation technology to improve the efficiency of the \emph{Analyzer}. We implement the SIAT with Android Open Source Project and evaluate its performance through extensive experiments on well-known datasets and real-world apps. The experimental results show that, compared to state-of-the-art approaches, the SIAT can achieve about 25\%$\sim$200\% accuracy improvements with 1.0 precision and 0.98 recall at the cost of negligible runtime overhead. Moreover, the SIAT can identify two undisclosed cases of bypassing that prior technologies cannot detect and quite a few malicious ICC threats in real-world apps with lots of downloads on the Google Play market.

In cancellable biometrics (CB) schemes, template security is achieved by applying, mainly non-linear, transformations to the biometric template. The transformation is designed to preserve the template distance/similarity in the transformed domain. Despite its effectiveness, the security issues attributed to similarity preservation property of CB are underestimated. Dong et al. [BTAS'19], exploited the similarity preservation trait of CB and proposed a similarity-based attack with high successful attack rate. The similarity-based attack utilizes preimage that are generated from the protected biometric template for impersonation and perform cross matching. In this paper, we propose a constrained optimization similarity-based attack (CSA), which is improved upon Dong's genetic algorithm enabled similarity-based attack (GASA). The CSA applies algorithm-specific equality or inequality relations as constraints, to optimize preimage generation. We interpret the effectiveness of CSA from the supervised learning perspective. We identify such constraints then conduct extensive experiments to demonstrate CSA against CB with LFW face dataset. The results suggest that CSA is effective to breach IoM hashing and BioHashing security, and outperforms GASA significantly. Inferring from the above results, we further remark that, other than IoM and BioHashing, CSA is critical to other CB schemes as far as the constraints can be formulated. Furthermore, we reveal the correlation of hash code size and the attack performance of CSA.

Thermal face image analysis is favorable for certain circumstances. For example, illumination-sensitive applications, like nighttime surveillance; and privacy-preserving demanded access control. However, the inadequate study on thermal face image analysis calls for attention in responding to the industry requirements. Detecting facial landmark points are important for many face analysis tasks, such as face recognition, 3D face reconstruction, and face expression recognition. In this paper, we propose a robust neural network enabled facial landmark detection, namely Deep Multi-Spectral Learning (DMSL). Briefly, DMSL consists of two sub-models, i.e. face boundary detection, and landmark coordinates detection. Such an architecture demonstrates the capability of detecting the facial landmarks on both visible and thermal images. Particularly, the proposed DMSL model is robust in facial landmark detection where the face is partially occluded, or facing different directions. The experiment conducted on Eurecom's visible and thermal paired database shows the superior performance of DMSL over the state-of-the-art for thermal facial landmark detection. In addition to that, we have annotated a thermal face dataset with their respective facial landmark for the purpose of experimentation.
