Pressure is a significant parameter to investigate the properties of matter. The phenomenon of pressure-induced magnetic phase transition has attracted great interest due to its ability to detect superconducting behaviour at high pressures in diamond anvil cell. However, detection of the local sample magnetic properties is a great challenge due to the small sample chamber volume. Recently, in situ pressure-induced phase transition has been detected using optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) method of the nitrogen vacancies (NV) centers in diamond. However, the NV centers with four orientation axes and temperature-dependent zero-field-splitting present some difficulty to interpret the observed ODMR spectra. Here, we investigate and characterize the optical and spin properties of the implanted silicon vacancy defects in 4H-SiC, which is single-axis and temperature-independent zero-field-splitting. Using this technique, we observe the magnetic phase transition of a magnetic Nd2Fe14B sample at about 7 GPa. Finally, the critical temperature-pressure phase diagram of the superconductor YBa2Cu3O6.66 is mapped and refined. These experiments pave the way for the silicon vacancy-based quantum sensor being used in situ magnetic detection at high pressures.

As part of one of the five major national development strategies, the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB), including the three national-level urban agglomerations (the Cheng-Yu urban agglomeration (CY-UA), the Yangtze River Middle-Reach urban agglomeration (YRMR-UA), and the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration (YRD-UA)), plays an important role in China’s urban development and economic construction. However, the rapid economic growth of the past decades has caused frequent regional air pollution incidents, as indicated by high levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Therefore, a driving force factor analysis based on the PM2.5 of the whole area would provide more information. This paper focuses on the three urban agglomerations in the YREB and uses exploratory data analysis and geostatistics methods to describe the spatiotemporal distribution patterns of air quality based on long-term PM2.5 series data from 2015 to 2018. First, the main driving factor of the spatial stratified heterogeneity of PM2.5 was determined through the Geodetector model, and then the influence mechanism of the factors with strong explanatory power was extrapolated using the Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression (MGWR) models. The results showed that the number of enterprises, social public vehicles, total precipitation, wind speed, and green coverage in the built-up area had the most significant impacts on the distribution of PM2.5. The regression by MGWR was found to be more efficient than that by traditional Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), further showing that the main factors varied significantly among the three urban agglomerations in affecting the special and temporal features.

5. Sexual needs of people with schizophrenia: a descriptive phenomenological study

Abstract Background Sexual health is one of the main areas of health and basic human rights which has been paid less attention in schizophrenia. Most studies have focused on sexual dysfunction rather than the sexual needs of people with schizophrenia. This study explores the sexual needs of people with schizophrenia and identify factors hindering sexual activities. Methods We carried out a qualitative study using a descriptive phenomenological approach. Data were collected at a psychiatric hospital in China. In total, 20 patients with schizophrenia were recruited through purposive sampling. Face to face semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with them. Interview recordings were transcribed by the research team, and transcripts were analyzed by two independent coders with Colaizzi’s descriptive analysis framework by using NVivo 11 software. The consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research checklist was used for reporting. Results The data analysis revealed 10 subthemes categorized into 3 macro themes: (1) multiple barriers hinder sexual activity; (2) significance of sex; and (3) conditions for fulfilling sexual needs. Conclusion A poor sexual quality of life may be found in patients with schizophrenia. Furthermore, people with schizophrenia did not lose interest in maintaining an active sex life. Mental health services should address this issue in three areas: sexual knowledge, sexual space, and sexual objects.

6. Neuroprotective effects of long noncoding RNAs involved in ischemic postconditioning after ischemic stroke

During acute reperfusion, the expression profiles of long noncoding RNAs in adult rats with focal cerebral ischemia undergo broad changes. However, whether long noncoding RNAs are involved in neuroprotective effects following focal ischemic stroke in rats remains unclear. In this study, RNA isolation and library preparation was performed for long noncoding RNA sequencing, followed by determining the coding potential of identified long noncoding RNAs and target gene prediction. Differential expression analysis, long noncoding RNA functional enrichment analysis, and co-expression network analysis were performed comparing ischemic rats with and without ischemic postconditioning rats. Rats were subjected to ischemic postconditioning via the brief and repeated occlusion of the middle cerebral artery or femoral artery. Quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expression levels of differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs after ischemic postconditioning in a rat model of ischemic stroke. The results showed that ischemic postconditioning greatly affected the expression profile of long noncoding RNAs and mRNAs in the brains of rats that underwent ischemic stroke. The predicted target genes of some of the identified long noncoding RNAs (cis targets) were related to the cellular response to ischemia and stress, cytokine signal transduction, inflammation, and apoptosis signal transduction pathways. In addition, 15 significantly differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs were identified in the brains of rats subjected to ischemic postconditioning. Nine candidate long noncoding RNAs that may be related to ischemic postconditioning were identified by a long noncoding RNA expression profile and long noncoding RNA-mRNA co-expression network analysis. Expression levels were verified by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. These results suggested that the identified long noncoding RNAs may be involved in the neuroprotective effects associated with ischemic postconditioning following ischemic stroke. The experimental animal procedures were approved by the Animal Experiment Ethics Committee of Kunming Medical University (approval No. KMMU2018018) in January 2018.

Background. Pyroptosis has a dual function in malignant tumor progression and management. The action of pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in pancreatic cancer (PC), however, remains uncertain. Methods. Differential expression analyses of 57 PRGs were conducted in the TCGA TARGET GTEx dataset. The candidate genes were determined using LASSO Cox regression and random forest analyses. We consider the joint estimation of direction-of-arrival (DOA) and polarization of constant modulus (CM) signals based on an electromagnetic vector-sensor (EMVS) array. Two algebraic algorithms for canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) with CM constraint are proposed in two scenarios, in which the source signals are fully and partially CM, respectively. The proposed algorithms use the analytic CM algorithm in the first step to calculate the source matrix, and then exploit the CPD structure of the data tensor to compute the remaining factor matrices, from which the DOA and polarization parameters can finally be obtained. Due to the algebraic nature, the proposed algorithms are faster and more stable than the optimization based algorithms, and can be used to effectively initialize the latter. We have shown that the proposed algorithms have more relaxed uniqueness conditions than unconstrained CPD, and thus can be applied in highly underdetermined cases where the number of source signals greatly exceeds that of the EMVSs. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithms.

9. A novel primary culture method for high-purity satellite glial cells derived from rat dorsal root ganglion

Satellite glial cells surround neurons within dorsal root ganglia. Previous studies have focused on single-cell suspensions of cultured neurons derived from rat dorsal root ganglia. At present, the primary culture method for satellite glial cells derived from rat dorsal root ganglia requires no digestion skill. Hence, the aim of the present study was to establish a novel primary culture method for satellite glial cells derived from dorsal root ganglia. Neonatal rat spine was collected and an incision made to expose the transverse protrusion and remove dorsal root ganglia. Dorsal root ganglia were freed from nerve fibers, connective tissue, and capsule membranes, then rinsed and transferred to 6-well plates, and cultured in a humidified 5% CO2 incubator at 37°C. After 3 days in culture, some cells had migrated from dorsal root ganglia. After subculture, cells were identified by immunofluorescence labeling for three satellite glial cell-specific markers: glutamine synthetase, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and S100β. Cultured cells expressed glutamine synthetase, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and S100β, suggesting they are satellite glial cells with a purity of > 95%. Thus, we have successfully established a novel primary culture method for obtaining high-purity satellite glial cells from rat dorsal root ganglia without digestion.
