Abstract Background The Otago Exercise Programme is an effective intervention for falls prevention. However, there is limited evidence in relation to studies that compare efficacy for falls prevention when delivered Otago Exercise Programme in a group or individual format in a primary care context. Objective To compare the Otago Exercise Programme delivered as a group vs. individual format for community dwelling older adults, over a one year period. The hypothesis was that neither format would be inferior to the other. Methods Design: A four-year multicentre, randomized, non-inferiority clinical trial, with two arms— Otago Exercise Programme group training and individual Otago exercise training. Setting(s): 21 primary healthcare centers. Participants: A sample size of 728 participants was established. Participants were aged between 65 and 80 years; living in the community; able to walk independently; and agreed to take part in the study and provided signed informed consent. Intervention: The Otago Exercise Programme was delivered mainly by nurses in primary care, with five face to face sessions, and a reinforcement 6 months later. Participants were encouraged to exercise at home between face to face sessions. Data collection: at baseline and after 6 and 12 months from October 2017 to 2020. Primary outcome: people who reported at least one fall. Secondary outcomes: number of falls, cause of falls, consequences and assistance, adherence and satisfaction. Group allocation was blinded to the researchers involved in analysis. Reporting: Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials recommendations for the Statement for Randomized Trials of Nonpharmacologic Treatments. Results Eight hundred twenty-seven participants were randomized (226 were allocated in group training and 272 in individual training). The analysis of the proportion of people who reported at least one fall and number of falls showed no differences between individual and group training. Assessment of the equivalence between the interventions at 12 months showed that the confidence interval for the difference of people who reported at least one fall was found to be within the equivalence limit of 10% considered. However, in those participants with a previous history of falls, group format showed potentially greater benefit. The participants in individual training presented higher scores on the Exercise Adherence Rating Scale test. No differences were found in satisfaction between the groups. Conclusions The group Otago Exercise Programme is equivalent to individually delivered Otago Exercise Programme in terms of prevention of falls over a 12-month follow up. Adherence was higher in individual training. Implications: Healthcare professionals could offer either Otago Exercise Programme format dependent on patient preference and be confident that that standardized intervention provides patient benefit. Introduction The management of a chronic and frequent pathology, such as obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), requires personalised programmes that implement new technology-based tools to improve the comprehensive treatment of the patient to reduce the morbidity associated with this disease. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of an eHealth tool in managing the pathophysiological consequences of OSA and how they impact the quality of life after 3 months of intervention among adults.Methods and analysis This is a mixed-method sequential exploratory study protocol. Participants will be≥18 years with a new diagnosis of moderate OSA and diagnosed with hypertension. The qualitative phase will consist of personal semistructured interviews. The quantitative phase will be a triple-blind randomised controlled trial. The experimental group (n=135) will receive an eHealth intervention using an electronic wrist device and a mobile application that will offer specific healthcare recommendations, physical activity indications and hygienic and dietary advice. These recommendations will be based on the information obtained in the qualitative phase. Those in the control group (n=135) will receive the usual educational materials from the sleep unit. The primary outcome will be blood pressure changes at 3 months. Secondary outcomes are subjective sleep quality, sleep apnoea-related parameters, daytime sleepiness, physical activity, empowerment and motivation for change, quality of life, anthropometry, cost–benefit and adherence.Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval for the study has been obtained from the Hospital Universitari Arnau de Vilanova (CEIC-2511). Abstract Aim This umbrella review aims to determine which interventions can be considered as effective in the prevention and treatment of suicidal behaviour. Design Umbrella review. Methods A systematic search was conducted of works indexed in the PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge and Joanna Institute Briggs databases. The search covered works published from 2011 to 2020. Results The scientific literature shows that, in addition to being the most prevalent interventions in use, dialectical and cognitive behavioural therapies are the most effective in the treatment and management of suicide attempts and suicidal ideation. It is shown that the prevention and treatment of suicidal behaviour requires multidisciplinary and comprehensive management. Among the interventions that stand out the most are the promotion of providing coping tools, work based on thought and behaviour, and behavioural, psychoanalytic and psychodynamic therapies for the management of emotions.

Objective: To compare anxiety and acute stress levels among nursing students who joined the labour market during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and those who did not. Methods: A cross-sectional, multicentre descriptive study across three Spanish public universities. A total of 216 nursing students participated in our study. Data collection was carried through an online questionnaire, that included variables on conditions for entering the labour market, the Zung Anxiety Self-Assessment Scale and the Stanford Acute Stress Reaction Questionnaire. We performed univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: Overall, 42.6% (n=92) of the students entered the labour market during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global anxiety score was x?=36.31 (SD=5.71) and the stress score was x?=82.39 (SD=30.84). Lower anxiety levels were observed among those who joined the labour market (x?=35.67; SD=5.78) as compared to those who did not (x?=36.73; SD=5.67). Overall 92.4% of the students were acutely stressed. Acute stress was higher among those who did not work (x?=84.35; SD=32.38) and significantly in women. Conclusions: Nursing students were able to cope with stress in situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic. A healthy worker effect could not be ruled out. Stress and anxiety among nursing students should be considered by clinical practice preceptors and at the time students first enter the labour market.

Meiosis involves deep changes in the spatial organisation and interactions of chromosomes enabling the two primary functions of this process: increasing genetic diversity and reducing ploidy level. These two functions are ensured by crucial events such as homologous chromosomal pairing, synapsis, recombination and segregation. In most sexually reproducing eukaryotes, homologous chromosome pairing depends on a set of mechanisms, some of them associated with the repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) induced at the onset of prophase I, and others that operate before DSBs formation. In this article, we will review various strategies utilised by model organisms for DSB-independent pairing. Specifically, we will focus on mechanisms such as chromosome clustering, nuclear and chromosome movements, as well as the involvement of specific proteins, non-coding RNA, and DNA sequences.

B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B‐ALL) is the commonest childhood cancer. High hyperdiploidy (HHD) identifies the most frequent cytogenetic subgroup in childhood B‐ALL. Although hyperdiploidy represents an important prognostic factor in childhood B‐ALL, the specific chromosome gains with prognostic value in HHD‐B‐ALL remain controversial, and the current knowledge about the hierarchy of chromosome gains, clonal heterogeneity and chromosomal instability in HHD‐B‐ALL remains very limited. We applied automated sequential‐iFISH coupled with single‐cell computational modeling to identify the specific chromosomal gains of the eight typically gained chromosomes in a large cohort of 72 primary diagnostic (DX, n = 62) and matched relapse (REL, n = 10) samples from HHD‐B‐ALL patients with either favorable or unfavorable clinical outcome in order to characterize the clonal heterogeneity, specific chromosome gains and clonal evolution. Our data show a high degree of clonal heterogeneity and a hierarchical order of chromosome gains in DX samples of HHD‐B‐ALL. The rates of specific chromosome gains and clonal heterogeneity found in DX samples differ between HHD‐B‐ALL patients with favorable or unfavorable clinical outcome. In fact, our comprehensive analyses at DX using a computationally defined risk predictor revealed low levels of trisomies +18+10 and low levels of clonal heterogeneity as robust relapse risk factors in minimal residual disease (MRD)‐negative childhood HHD‐B‐ALL patients: relapse‐free survival beyond 5 years: 22.1% versus 87.9%, P

Although the microbial communities from seminal fluid were an unexplored field some decades ago, their characteristics and potential roles are gradually coming to light. Therefore, a complex and specific microbiome population with commensal niches and fluctuating species has started to be revealed. In fact, certain clusters of bacteria have been associated with fertility and health, while the outgrowth of several species is potentially correlated with infertility indicators. This constitutes a compelling reason for outlining the external elements that may induce changes in the seminal microbiome composition, like lifestyle factors, gut microbiota, pathologies, prebiotics, and probiotics. In this review, we summarize the main findings about seminal microbiome, its origins and composition, its relationship with fertility, health, and influence factors, while reminding readers of the limitations and advantages introduced from technical variabilities during the experimental procedures.

Abstract Background The scientific evidence highlights the difficulties that healthcare professionals experience when managing patients with chronic pain. One of the causes of this difficulty could be related to the acquired training and the lack of knowledge about the neurophysiology of pain. In the present study, we assessed the effectiveness of a gamified web platform in acquiring knowledge about pain neurophysiology and determining the satisfaction and motivation of students of the Degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Lleida. Methods A quasi-experimental study was carried out with a sample of 60 students who had access to a gamified web platform that included notes, videos, and clinical cases prepared by the teaching staff and was based on a previous study that included patients and healthcare professionals. Results The results show that after the intervention, there was a statistically significant increase in knowledge about the neurophysiology of pain, and the effect size was in the desired area of ​​effect. Likewise, many students considered that their motivation had increased as a result of the methodology used in the present study. Conclusions The results support the use of this methodology to promote knowledge about the neurophysiology of pain while improving students’ motivation.

Abstract CRISPR-Cas9 screening libraries have arisen as a powerful tool to identify protein-coding (pc) and non-coding genes playing a role along different processes. In particular, the usage of a nuclease active Cas9 coupled to a single gRNA has proven to efficiently impair the expression of pc-genes by generating deleterious frameshifts. Here, we first demonstrate that targeting the same gene simultaneously with two guide RNAs (paired guide RNAs, pgRNAs) synergistically enhances the capacity of the CRISPR-Cas9 system to knock out pc-genes. We next design a library to target, in parallel, pc-genes and lncRNAs known to change expression during the transdifferentiation from pre-B cells to macrophages. We show that this system is able to identify known players in this process, and also predicts 26 potential novel ones, of which we select four (two pc-genes and two lncRNAs) for deeper characterization. Our results suggest that in the case of the candidate lncRNAs, their impact in transdifferentiation may be actually mediated by enhancer regions at the targeted loci, rather than by the lncRNA transcripts themselves. The CRISPR-Cas9 coupled to a pgRNAs system is, therefore, a suitable tool to simultaneously target pc-genes and lncRNAs for genomic perturbation assays.

Eurysthea sordida (Erichson) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) es un coleóptero de distribución tropical en Sudamérica que ocasiona daño de importancia económica en Alnus acuminata Kunth en el valle del Mantaro, región de Junín, Perú. En la región, no hay un estudio completo como el ciclo de vida y el daño que ocasiona a Alnus acuminata. El objetivo de esta investigación es estudiar la morfología de los estadios biológicos de E. sordida recolectados en A. acuminata, así como caracterizar su daño. Para esto, se midió la longitud total (L) y el ancho (A) de huevos, larvas, pupas y adultos de E. sordida, así como el diámetro de las perforaciones en corteza y albura de A. acuminata. Adicionalmente, se realizó la descripción morfológica completa de los estadios biológicos de E. sordida para confirmar su identificación taxonómica y la descripción morfológica completa de los estados de huevo, larva, pupa y adulto de E. sordida. Se observaron seis estadios larvales con los siguientes parámetros, i (2,518 ± 0,421 mm), ii (6,228 ± 1,858 mm), iii (15,961 ± 2,752 mm), iv (23,048 ± 1,581 mm), v (28,301 ± 1,170 mm) y vi (33,055 ± 1,412 mm). Todos los ejemplares de A. acuminata evaluados resultaron atacados por individuos de E. sordida, mostrando daños leves hasta muy severos desde la base hasta el fuste medio, en la corteza, el cámbium y la albura. Esta investigación es el primer reporte de los estadios biológicos de E. sordida y sobre los daños a la corteza y la albura de A. acuminata para el valle del Mantaro.

RESUMEN Introducción: Las lesiones neoplásicas cutáneas generan un elevado impacto en salud por la complejidad de su abordaje sintomatológico y las complicaciones asociadas, entre las que destaca el impacto emocional que provocan tanto en el paciente como en la familia. Es muy importante detectar las necesidades del paciente y, en ausencia de un horizonte curativo, brindar bienestar y confortabilidad, mejorando así la calidad de vida. Desarrollo del plan de cuidados: Se desarrolla un plan de cuidados estandarizado basado en la mejor evidencia científica disponible para atender las necesidades de una mujer de 65 años que presenta una herida neoplásica de 6 meses de evolución en la zona pectoral. Se proponen diagnósticos enfermeros basados en la taxonomía NANDA I, criterios de resultados (NOC) y las intervenciones enfermeras (NIC), así como las actividades correspondientes basadas en la evidencia científica. Se formulan los problemas de colaboración y complicaciones potenciales. Discusión y conclusiones: La valoración holística del paciente con enfermedad neoplásica y el abordaje integral mediante un equipo multidisciplinar son factores clave para brindar al paciente y a su familia, en ausencia de objetivos curativos, la mejor calidad de vida posible.

RESUMEN Introducción: La dermatitis asociada a la incontinencia es un importante problema de salud que puede comprometer la salud de quienes la sufren y representa importantes costes para el Sistema de Salud. La Perineal Assessment Tool es el único instrumento diseñado específicamente para evaluar el riesgo de la dermatitis asociada a la incontinencia. Objetivos: realizar la adaptación transcultural y el análisis de las propiedades psicométricas de la versión española de la Perineal Assessment Tool. Método: Se utilizó un diseño de estudio observacional dividido en tres fases. En la primera fase se llevó a cabo un proceso de traducción y adaptación transcultural de la escala. En la segunda fase, se realizó una prueba piloto (n = 15) utilizando un diseño transversal para determinar la viabilidad, la fiabilidad intraobservador e interobservador, y la validez de contenido de la versión española de la escala. Finalmente, en la tercera fase se realizó un estudio transversal utilizando una muestra de 171 pacientes para determinar la prevalencia de dermatitis asociada a la incontinencia y analizar la consistencia interna, la validez de criterio y constructo, la sensibilidad, la especificidad, el valor predictivo positivo y negativo, así como los puntos de corte de la escala. Resultados: En la primera fase, la versión española de la escala Perineal Assessment Tool demostró ser viable, administrable en menos de 3 minutos, fácil de comprender y completar. En la segunda fase, el índice de validez del contenido global de la versión española de la escala Perineal Assessment Tool fue de 0,83; la fiabilidad intraobservador, de 0,98, y la fiabilidad interobservador, de 0,99. En la tercera fase, la versión española de la escala Perineal Assessment Tool mostró una consistencia interna de 0,601 y una correlación significativa con los apartados de humedad de las escalas de valoración de riesgo de úlceras por presión Braden y EMINA. La curva de ROC fue de 0,959 y los mejores valores fueron los presentados en una puntuación de 7, mostrando un valor predictivo positivo del 96,7%, un valor predictivo negativo del 0,6%, una sensibilidad del 74,4%, una especificidad del 99,2% y, finalmente, una validez global del 93,6%. Conclusiones: La versión española de la Perineal Assessment Tool ha demostrado ser un instrumento válido y fiable para la evaluación de la dermatitis asociada a la incontinencia en pacientes institucionalizados en el contexto español.

Background: obstructive sleep apnoea is a common and burdensome condition, characterised by obstruction of the airway during sleep at the level of the pharynx, which may occur with symptoms or without any symptoms. The most common place for obstructive sleep apnoea management is in specialised sleep units. Aim: to identify what is known about nurses’ role in comprehensive management of obstructive sleep apnoea, and to determine the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions as well as the cost effectiveness of management of obstructive sleep apnoea in primary care settings. Methods: a scoping review was carried out by searching PubMed/Medline, CINAHL, Scopus, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and ScienceDirect. The study findings were synthesised using a thematic analysis approach. Results: In this review, 12 articles were included, and three key themes emerged, namely the role of nurses in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea, role of nurses in the follow up and support of obstructive sleep apnoea patients, and role of nurses in the management of obstructive sleep apnoea in primary care and the cost-effectiveness. Conclusion: Nurses can play a critical role in obstructive sleep apnoea. There are many ways in which nurses can contribute, including screening, assessment, diagnosis, promotion of therapy adherence, and following up with patients, including monitoring for any side effects associated with the CPAP machine, such as irritation of the face. Additionally, nurses can provide patient education and coordinate with other health care providers. Nursing interventions such as patient education have been demonstrated to be highly effective in promoting adherence to PAP therapy in both sleep units and primary care settings. Based on the findings of this review, the primary care model is more cost-effective than the sleep unit model in the management of obstructive sleep apnoea patients. The role of nurses in managing Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in both paediatric and adult populations shares similarities, but also includes differences that should be carefully considered and explored. In this review, one article only explored the role of nurses in paediatric OSA care. Thus, there is a need to identify the potential role of nursing in the comprehensive management of paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea, as well as to explore alternative cost-effective approaches that include primary care settings.

RESUMEN Objetivos: Describir la percepción del entorno laboral de los profesionales de Enfermería de una planta de Oncología - Hematología de un hospital pediátrico de nivel III. Material y métodos: Estudio descriptivo transversal. Se recogió información sobre variables socio demográficas y laborales mediante el cuestionario Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index(PES-NWI) del entorno de práctica clínica. Conclusiones: Las enfermeras de la planta de Oncología-Hematología del Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (Barcelona) clasificaron su entorno laboral como favorable

Abstract Background Personal convictions in referral to pain cause misbeliefs in health professionals, which can influence patients who suffer from non-specific chronic low back pain. Likewise, health professionals’ beliefs affect their advice and attitudes towards patients’ treatment, becoming a possible cause of greater disability. The development of educational interventions based on the best scientific evidence in neurophysiology of pain could be a way to provide information and advice to primary care health professionals to change their cognition towards chronic non-specific low back pain. The use of Information and Communication Technologies allows the development of web sites, which might be one of the effective resources to modify misbeliefs and attitudes, in relation to the origin and meaning of non-specific chronic low back pain, of primary care professionals and that may modify their attitudes in patients’ treatment. Methods The aim of this project is to identify misbeliefs and attitudes of primary care physicians and nurses about chronic non-specific low back pain to develop a web-based educational tool using different educational formats and gamification techniques. This study has a mixed-method sequential exploratory design. The participants are medical and nursing staff working in primary care centers in the city of Lleida, Spain. For the qualitative phase of this study, the authors will use personal semi-structured interviews. For the quantitative phase the authors will use an experimental study design. Subjects will be randomly allocated using a simple random sample technique. The intervention group will have access to the web site where they will find information related to non-specific chronic low back pain, based on the information obtained in the qualitative phase. The control group will have access to a video explaining the clinical practice guidelines on low back pain. Discussion This study has been designed to explore and modify the beliefs and attitudes about chronic low back pain of physicians and nurses working in primary care settings, using a web-based educational tool with different educational formats and gamification techniques. The aim of the educational intervention is to change their knowledge about the origin and meaning of pain, with the result of reducing their misbeliefs and attitudes of fear avoidance. Background Nurses are often the first to activate the chain of survival when a cardiorespiratory arrest happens. That is why it is crucial that they keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date and their attitudes to resuscitation are very important. The main aim of this study was to analyse whether the level of theoretical and practical understanding affected the attitudes of nursing staff. Methods A questionnaire was designed using the Delphi technique (three rounds). The questionnaire was adjusted and it was piloted on a test-retest basis with a convenience sample of 30 registered nurses. The psychometric characteristics were evaluated using a sample of 347 nurses using Cronbach’s alpha. Descriptive analysis was performed to describe the sociodemographic variables and Spearman’s correlation coefficient to assess the relationship between two scale variables. Pearson’s chi-squared test has been used to study the relationship between two categorical variables. Wilcoxon Mann Whitney test and the Kruskal–Wallis test were performed to establish relationships between the demographic/work related characteristics and the level of understanding. Results The Knowledge and Attitude of Nurses in the Event of a Cardiorespiratory Arrest (CAEPCR) questionnaire comprised three sections: sociodemographic information, theoretical and practical understanding, and attitudes of ethical issues. Cronbach’s alpha for the internal consistency of the attitudes questionnaire was 0.621. The knowledge that nurses self-reported with regard to cardiopulmonary arrest directly affected their attitudes. Their responses raised a number of bioethical issues. Conclusions CAEPCR questionnaire is the first one which successfully linked knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the attitudes towards ethical issues Health policies should ensure that CPR training is mandatory for nurses and all healthcare workers, and this training should include the ethical aspects.

Background Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that is characterized by deficits in episodic memory. It is the most common form of dementia and affects 50–70% of patients with cognitive impairments over the age of 65. Elderly people are particularly susceptible to malnutrition and that risk is even higher in patients with AD. This study assessed the nutritional status of patients with AD at different stages of AD and explored how that status correlated with cognitive, functional and behavioural variables and caregiver overburden. The characteristics of the diet and the degree of adherence to the Mediterranean diet were also analysed. Methods This was a cross-sectional study that was representative of the general population and it was carried out in the Unit of Cognitive Disorders, Lleida, Spain. The participants were 111 subjects with AD who were aged 65 and over and still living at home. The subjects’ nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) and Controlling Nutritional Status system. The monthly food intake was estimated using the short Food Frequency Questionnaire and adherence to the Mediterranean diet was evaluated using the Mediterranean Diet Score. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), Global Deterioration Scale, Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) and Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) were also used. Results We found that 68% of the subjects presented with a risk of malnutrition and 19% were malnourished according to the MNA scale. Patients ate a higher quantity of meat and dairy products than recommended and fewer products from the remaining healthier food groups. Of the 111 subjects, 73% showed low adherence to the Mediterranean diet and 27% showed moderate adherence. There was a partial correlation between nutritional status and the MMSE when the data were adjusted for age and sex (r = 0, 318; p = 0.001) and inverse correlations were found for functional status (r = − 0.283; p = 0.004) and the NPI (r = − 0.409; p = 0.000) and ZBI scales (r = − 0.433; p = 0.000) when they were adjusted using the same variables. The ZBI scale (OR 1.08, 95% CI [1.01–1.15]) showed an increase in the risk of malnutrition in the multivariate analysis. Discussion Alterations in nutritional status were more common during the advanced stages of AD and were also associated with behavioural changes and caregiver overburden. Low adherence to traditional healthy diets in Mediterranean countries and food intake profiles should be considered when managing patients with AD. Other countries can use the results to examine diets in people with AD that are high in meat and dairy and low in healthy food groups like fruit and vegetables.

The aim of this study was to look in depth at the relationship between meiotic anomalies and male infertility, such as the determination of the chromosomes involved or the correlation with patient features. For this purpose, a total of 31 testicular tissue samples from individuals consulting for fertility problems were analyzed. Metaphase I cells were evaluated using a sequential methodology combining Leishman stained procedures and multiplex fluorescence in situ hybridization protocols. The number of chromosomal units and chiasmata count per bivalent were established and a hierarchical cluster analysis of the individuals was performed. The relationship of the seminogram and the karyotype over recombination were evaluated using Poisson regression models. Results obtained in this study show a significant percentage of infertile individuals with altered meiotic behavior, mostly specified as a reduction in chiasmata count in medium and large chromosomes, the presence of univalents, and the observation of tetraploid metaphases. Moreover, the number and the type of anomalies were found to be different between cells of the same individual, suggesting the coexistence of cell lines with normal meiotic behavior and cell lines with abnormalities. In addition, chromosomal abnormalities in metaphase I are significantly associated with oligozoospermia and/or polymorphic karyotype variants.

La úlcera de etiología venosa es la más prevalente de las úlceras de extremidad inferior. Entre el 75 y el 80% de las úlceras de la extremidad inferior son de esta etiología. De acuerdo con las evidencias disponibles, el tratamiento de las úlceras de etiología venosa tiene como base dos grandes pilares: el manejo de la úlcera como una herida crónica y el control de la hipertensión venosa crónica (HTV), su causa primordial, mediante sistemas de alta compresión decreciente y mantenida. De todos los métodos de control de la HTV, el sistema multicapa ha demostrado clínicamente que permite alcanzar un 80% de tasa de cicatrización de lesiones a las doce semanas de tratamiento, erigiéndose como el tratamiento más efectivo de los existentes hasta el momento. Por otro lado, a menudo, una compresión de 40 mm Hg en el tobillo no es bien tolerada por todas las personas afectadas de HTV crónica. Para esos casos rebeldes en los que debemos utilizar recursos alternativos, nosotros hemos utilizado la cromoterapia ya que ha demostrado, mediante varios estudios, ser útil en la curación de heridas consiguiendo, entre otros beneficios, estimular el aporte sanguíneo al lecho de la herida, favoreciendo así la oxigenación. En base a estos hechos, nos planteamos la aplicabilidad de la cromoterapia en la cura de las úlceras venosas, como tratamiento complementario a las curas habituales, cuando estos no son lo suficientemente efectivos o cuando el paciente no tolera el vendaje elástico multicapa.Venous ulcers are the most prevalent ulcers of the lower extremity. They account for 75%-80% of ulcers of the lower extremity. According to the evidence available, there are two main strands to therapy: treatment of the ulcer as a chronic wound, and management of venous hypertension (VHT), the prime cause of venous ulcers. VHT is managed using decreasing and sustained high-compression systems. According to the literature, the multilayer system has been clinically shown to attain an ulcer healing rate of 80% after twelve weeks' treatment. It is the most effective currently existing treatment. Several studies have shown colour therapy to aid wound healing. Among other effects, it stimulates the blood supply to the wound bed and encourages oxygenation, at the same time inhibiting the growth of anaerobic bacteria. On the strength of the above, we propose the use of colour therapy in treating venous ulcers, as additional treatment to standard therapy, when standard therapy is ineffective or when a patient cannot tolerate multilayer bandaging due to pain.

Desde hace años, aparece una nueva forma de entender el proceso de cicatrización basado en materiales de cura en ambiente húmedo (CAH). Su principal finalidad es la de mantener la herida en una situación idónea para su correcta cicatrización, especialmente en las heridas crónicas, aunque con él y gracias a su gran eficacia, se han ido haciendo un hueco en el mundo de las heridas agudas. En base a estos hechos, nos planteamos la aplicabilidad de la CAH no sólo en el ámbito de las heridas crónicas, donde a día de hoy es el tratamiento de elección, si no también en las heridas agudas, donde aún queda mucho camino por recorrer. El objetivo de este trabajo es aplicar las mejores evidencias para establecer el tratamiento de elección de las heridas hechas con la técnica del tatuaje. El caso expuesto parece indicar que la CAH es beneficiosa en el campo de los tatuajes en cuanto al aumento en la velocidad de curación, a la calidad de la coloración y dibujo del tatuaje y a la disminución del dolor. Por último, nos gustaría destacar que, entre toda la gama de apósitos, los hidrocoloides pueden ser una buena solución y, entre ellos, los que son finos son los que nos permitirán el control visual de la cicatrización y los bordes de la herida y resultan idóneos para heridas superficiales con exudado leve, como son los tatuajes.For years there was a new way of understanding the healing process based materials cure in humid environment (CAH). Its main purpose is to maintain the wound in a suitable situation for proper healing especially chronic wounds, but with thanks to its high efficiency, have been making a hole in the world of acute wounds. Based on these facts, we consider the applicability of the CAH not only in the field of chronic wounds, where today is the treatment of choice, but also in acute wounds where there is still a long way to go. The aim of this paper is to apply the best evidence to establish the treatment of choice for wounds made with the technique of tattooing. The case described suggests that the CAH is beneficial in the field of tatoos in increasing the speed of healing, quality of colour and design of the tattoo and decreased pain. Finally we would like to note that among the full range of hydrocolloid dressings can be a good solution, including those who are thin are the ones that allow us to control visual and healing wound edges and are suitable for superficial wounds exudate mild, such as tatoos.
