PurposeThe purpose of this study is to apply and extend the predictors within the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) to understand consumers' behaviour toward recycling end-of-life garments among Australian consumers. The predictors explored within this study include attitude, perceived behavioural control, subjective norms, self-identity, general recycling behaviour eco-literacy, self-efficacy, intentions to recycle and behaviour to recycle end-of-life garments.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from a sample of consumers across all eight recognised states/territories in Australia through survey questionnaires. A total of 481 usable responses were analysed using structural equation modelling.FindingsResults show positive relationships between the factors explored with all hypotheses supported. The findings of this study have theoretical and managerial implications. They (1) provide an insight into the significant factors that influence consumers' recycling behaviour amongst Australian fashion consumers; (2) bridge the gap in the explanatory nature of TPB by extending this theory; (3) call to develop marketing campaigns to educate consumers on the impact of fashion waste; (4) suggest the need for provision of household textile collection bins at a national level and (5) highlight the need for policy reform on garment recycling enabled by the Australian government.Originality/valueThis study is part of the limited studies that focus on the recycling of consumer fashion waste within the Australian context. Little research has also applied the TPB to end-of-life fashion products with a focus on recycling. In addition, no study to the authors' knowledge has, in combination, explored self-efficacy, self-identity, general recycling behaviour and eco-literacy as predictors of intentions to recycle end-of-life garments.

In this essay I will suggest that part of what makes the young Jamaican poet Ishion Hutchinson so remarkable is the fact that much of his work – in this age of “anything goes” post-postmodernism – is clearly modernist poetry, in both structure and effect. This structure will be that explained in my expanded version of Michael Riffaterre’s semiotic theory of poetry, which deals with modernist work. I will suggest that one of the distinctive features of the latter is that a modern poetic text is distinguished by two underlying “matricial” propositions, each of which generates a set of variant images having the same underlying semantic structure. This paradigmatic method of signifying is unique to poetry. Each matrix is reassembled by the reader from a comparison of the images of each set. The matrices are linked syntagmatically in a variety of relations such as negation or difference of scale. This bimatricial relation (subject-sign) has an intertextual counterpart (object-sign) of similar structure but different lexicon. The interpretant of these two complex signs has a sociolectic counterpart of similar lexicon but different structure. The semantic contrast thus established produces innovation, which is the other distinctive feature of modern poetry. It turns out that much of Hutchinson’s innovative work is structured in this way.

Objective The aim of this project was to make the case to the managers of a large urban teaching hospital in New Zealand for the introduction of systematic case-finding for pre-existing cognitive impairment/dementia in older hospital inpatients that screen positive for delirium. Method Two hundred consecutive acute admissions aged 75+ in four medical wards were assessed using the 4AT assessment tool for delirium and the Alzheimer Questionnaire (AQ) for pre-existing cognitive impairment/dementia. Length of stay and mortality at 1 year were also collected. Results Over a third of the sample screened positive for delirium and nearly two-thirds of these also screened positive for dementia. The median length of stay was 5 days for delirium without dementia and 7 days for delirium with dementia, compared to 3 days for those who screened negative for both. After adjustment for age, gender and ethnic group, people who screened positive for delirium (with or without dementia) had 50% longer length of stay ( p < 0.05) and at least double the risk of death ( p < 0.05). Conclusion Older hospital inpatients that screen positive for delirium and dementia using 4AT and AQ have longer lengths of stay and higher mortality. Identification may lead to more timely interventions that help to improve health outcomes and reduce hospital costs.

Mote Park lake, located in Maidstone, Kent, was constructed in its current form in the 1830s. It is situated within a grade 2 listed park. The works set out in the original scope were limited to increasing the capacity of the existing dam spillway. They included construction of an auxiliary spillway to accommodate an extreme flood. During design development, the poor condition of the drawdown facilities was identified. Refurbishment and upgrade to automatic control and operation was included within the scope of works at little additional cost reducing the scope of temporary works required for construction. This paper explains the project background and the reasons for the upgrade to the reservoir, which include the spillway improvements and associated works, refurbishment and upgrade of the drawdown facility, and landscaping and mitigation works required due to its sensitive setting.

In light of the maelstrom that global Supply Chains must struggle with, we contend that Systems Thinking in Supply Chain Management can be an enabling factor. Systems Thinking can support problem-solving in the reactive crisis mode that practitioners find themselves in, let alone when seeking ways to improve the end-to-end Supply Chain. This paper determines the prevalence of Systems Thinking methodologies within the literature and confirms if these contributions provide benefits to Supply Chain Management beyond the dyad through empirical research? Given the challenges of realising supply chain-wide progression, are these contributions supporting the discipline in pursuing industry advancement strategies? A systematic literature review methodology was employed, evaluating ninety-seven peer-reviewed papers regarding the breadth; from suppliers' supplier to customers customer, and depth; from literature review to empirical research. Five research outcomes are identified, resulting in an established hypothesis. We argue that a positive correlation between Systems Thinking Maturity and Supply Chain Performance leads to a more significant opportunity to go beyond the dyad. The hypothesis led to a research construct that advocates the need to determine empirically whether a correlation exists between Systems Thinking Maturity and Supply Chain Performance.

Objective: The aim of this study was to conduct the first national survey of consultation-liaison psychiatry (CLP) services in New Zealand. Method: An online survey based on the Multidimensional Matrix for Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (mMAX-LP) was circulated to a psychiatrist at each of 12 identified CLP services nationally during April–May 2018. Existing data for Middlemore Hospital (where the lead author is based) were added later for completion. Results: Most CLP services in New Zealand are funded and managed by the mental health division, operate within office hours, and have psychologists and other allied health staff external to their service. However, there was significant heterogeneity amongst these services in terms of structure and function and in particular, the coverage of emergency departments and young/older patient groups. Conclusion: This first national survey has provided a snapshot of CLP services in New Zealand in 2018 and found striking heterogeneity. The survey has established a baseline for future local and international comparisons.

Preference within the perceiving process (sensing or intuition) is one of the main features within psychological type theory that differentiates clergy serving within different streams of the Christian Church. Previous research has identified a higher proportion of intuitive types among Church of England clergy than among clergy serving within the Free Churches (Baptist, Methodist, Salvation Army). New data from 93 ministers serving within the United Reformed Church suggest that this denomination may occupy a position between the Church of England and other Free Churches, with 55% of male ministers, and 53% of female ministers preferring intuition.\ud \ud

Hybrid work models have rapidly become the most common work arrangement for many knowledge workers, affording them with improved work–life balance and greater levels of job satisfaction, but little research has been conducted to identify the different hybrid work models that are emerging, and the appropriate supports needed to drive sustainable improvement. This paper utilises primary data from a series of semi-structured interviews with senior Australian human resource (HR) managers, to identify a range of different approaches to hybrid work design, applying the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory. Analyses of these findings have resulted in five key contributions: one being the identification of the most popular current hybrid work arrangements; the second being the key supporting pillars that are required to support successful hybrid work; the third identifies the infrastructure required to support these pillars; the fourth being a theoretic contribution that extends the existing academic literature in this field; and with the final contribution being an interpretation of the findings via COR theory. These contributions have significant implications for both scholars and human resource professionals, as organisations and academics strive to learn from the recent period of turbulence and develop sustainable improvements in performance and working conditions (SDG8), with improved support for employee health and wellbeing (SDG3), and gender equality (SDG5).

Nutrient addition experiments initiated in 1980 on the Keen of Hamar, Shetland Isles, have produced a unique dataset of long-term vegetation response to amendments of major plant growth nutrients (N, P, NP, NPK and NPKCa). Previous studies have reported the notable impact of phosphorus on the ‘serpentine debris’ community, and the negligible effect of nitrogen. However, a survey in 2010 provided our first indication that the experimentally-induced phosphorus effect was weakening and this was consolidated by further surveys of vegetation cover and community composition. This community shift might have been different had the local climate acted synergistically with phosphorus additions: in the last few years of the study the Shetland Isles experienced particularly low spring rainfall – the dry spell may have been a well-timed environmental filter driving community recovery rather than a permanent change of state to heathland on an organic soil. The longevity of our investigation is a unique opportunity to explore vegetation response to the key drivers of global environmental change, namely climate change, eutrophication as a result of agricultural intensification, and the potential for invasion of species as new resource-rich niches become available.

New partially good yield models have been developed by considering core-to-core correlation. The new models take into account the physical mechanisms which cause core-to-core correlation in advanced technologies. The improved models have clearly shown improved accuracy to actual data when compared to the existing models. First, existing partially good yield models are reviewed. Next, the physical mechanisms causing core-to-core correlation in advanced technology nodes are discussed. A simple correlated partially good yield model is given that is based on the physical mechanisms. A correlated partially good yield model based on Moody’s correlated binomial distribution is proposed. Finally, actual partially good yield data of two 14 nm products are compared to both the existing models and the proposed new models. The new correlated partially good yield model better matches the actual yield data across a range of core counts compared to existing models.

Objective: Consultation-liaison psychiatry (CLP) services are particularly susceptible to heterogeneity, developing haphazardly in response to local interests and perceived need. This hampers the generalisability of comparisons between services in terms of service models, resource requirements and outcome data. The objective of this paper therefore is to chronicle the development of a method to meaningfully describe, map and compare different CLP services. Method: A review of the literature was followed by multiple site visits in both New Zealand and England, and an extended process of consultation and feedback. Results: Sixteen dimensions common to CLP services were extracted to create a multi-dimensional matrix (mMAX-LP) which had three broad clusters (structure, coverage and relationship with physical health services). The model was applied and discussed with the previously visited hospitals over the succeeding five years. Additionally, the matrix was tested, and its utility demonstrated during the planned reconfiguration of CLP services at a large teaching hospital in South Auckland, New Zealand by tracking the evolution of CLP services. Conclusions: mMAX-LP shows promise as a useful model for profiling and comparing CLP services; mapping their evolution over time; and sign-posting future service development.

Wildlife traffickers often claim that confiscated animals were captive-bred rather than wild-caught to launder wild animals and escape prosecution. We used stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N) derived from the claw tips of wild wood turtles from Maine and captive wood turtles throughout the eastern U.S. to develop a predictive model used to classify confiscated wood turtles as wild or captive. We found that the claw tips of wild and captive wood turtles (Glyptemys insculpta) were isotopically distinct. Captive turtles had significantly higher δ13C and δ15N values than wild turtles. Our model correctly classified all wild turtles as wild (100%) and nearly all captive turtles as captive (94%). All but two of the 71 turtles tested were successfully predicted as wild or captive (97.2% accuracy), yielding a misclassification rate of 2.8%. In addition to our model being useful to law enforcement in Maine, we aim to develop a multi-species model to assist conservation law enforcement efforts to curb illegal turtle trafficking from locations across the eastern United States and Canada.
