The "Assessment of Culturally and Contextually Relevant Supports" (ACCReS) was developed in response to the need for well-constructed instruments to measure teachers' cultural responsiveness and guide decision-making related to professional development needs. The current study sought to evaluate the presence of differential item functioning (DIF) in ACCReS items and the magnitude of DIF, if detected. With a national sample of 999 grade K-12 teachers in the United States, we examined measurement invariance of ACCReS items in relation to responses from (a) racially and ethnically minoritized (REM) youth and white teachers (teacher race), (b) teachers in schools with 0-50% and 51-100% REM youth (student race), and (c) teachers with <1-5 years of teaching experience and teachers with >5 years of experience. Findings suggested that ACCReS items exhibited negligible levels of DIF. The lack of DIF found provides additional evidence for the validity of scores from the ACCReS to assess teachers' cultural responsiveness. Furthermore, descriptive analyses revealed that teachers were more likely to agree with items pertaining to their own classroom practice than items related to access to adequate training and support. Results inform implications for future educational and measurement research.

In 1974, Rekers and Lovaas published an article in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA) wherein the authors coached a 4-year-old childs parents to ignore and physically abuse him when he engaged in behaviors that were identified by the authors as inappropriate for a child whose sex assigned at birth was male. In October 2020, a Statement of Concern regarding Rekers and Lovaas (1974) was published in JABA (SEAB & LeBlanc, 2020), which described concerns regarding the paper and then provided justification for the journals decision to not retract this paper. In this current response, I provide a counterpoint to the Statement of Concern, arguing that (a) the available evidence strongly suggests that the original study was unethical and misaligned with the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and (b) the evidence presented to support its contemporaneous ethicality is insufficient. I end with an argument that Rekers and Lovaas (1974) should be retracted and discuss the critical role of ethics and social significance for the field of ABA.

When students require support to improve outcomes in a variety of domains, educators provide youth with school-based intervention. When educators require support to improve their professional practice, school leaders and support personnel (e.g., school psychologists) provide teachers with professional development (PD), consultation, and coaching. This multi-study article describes how the Assessment of Culturally and Contextually Relevant Supports (ACCReS) was developed with the purpose of assessment driving intervention for teachers in need of support to engage in culturally responsive practice. Items for the ACCReS were created via a multi-step process including review by both expert and practitioner panels. Then, results of an exploratory factor analysis with a national sample of U.S. teachers (N = 500) in Study 1 yielded three subscales. A confirmatory factor analysis conducted with a separate sample of teachers (N = 400) in Study 2 produced adequate model fit. In Study 3, analyses with another final sample of teachers (N = 99) indicated preliminary evidence of convergent validity between the ACCReS and two measures of teacher self-efficacy of culturally responsive practice. Data from the ACCReS can shape the content of educator intervention (e.g., PD) and promote more equitable student outcomes for youth.

Innovations, such as novel evidence-based practices, are not likely to diffuse to practice without explicit effort and design (Rogers, 2003). In an effort to understand how interventions should be designed to meet teacher preferences, the present study utilized a full-profile two-alternative forced-choice experiment to examine teacher preferences when selecting a classwide intervention to address student disruptive behavior. Attributes and levels for the experiment were derived in response to four characteristics from Rogers' diffusion of innovations theory. Results from 266 general education teachers of Grades K-5 indicated that nearly all theorized characteristics influenced teacher preference, with the exception of the observability of the intervention (i.e., receiving feedback from others). Specific findings of levels within attributes suggest that, for instance, short online video trainings are preferable to full-day workshops and specific details on adaptations for inclusivity are highly preferred. Given school psychologists' roles in consultation and behavior support, knowledge of teacher preferences may be utilized to support intervention uptake and more general dissemination efforts.

Women of color (WOC) faculty are vastly underrepresented in STEM departments and continue to face daunting challenges that impact their recruitment, retention, and promotion. Research demonstrates that the underrepresentation of women of color STEM faculty is occasioned by numerous factors, including structural and systematic issues such as chilly climate, unwelcoming policies, and lack of concerted efforts in STEM departments. However, research on the perspectives of administrators and their sensemaking of issues impacting the access to and success of women of color STEM faculty in the professoriate has been largely unexplored. Thus, this study explored how institutional administrators, including Deans, Department Chairs, Chief Diversity Officers, and ADVANCE Project Directors make sense of factors that inhibit and facilitate the recruitment, retention, and promotion of early-career women of color STEM faculty and how they support (directly and indirectly) their access to and success within these roles. We present our findings about administrators' sensemaking in alignment with the purpose of our research. We conclude that administrators' involvement in ensuring that systematic and structural barriers inhibiting the hiring and progress of women of color STEM faculty are alleviated is significant to ensuring that the professoriate mirrors their student population.

Research indicating many study results do not replicate has raised questions about the credibility of science and prompted concerns about a potential reproducibility crisis. Moreover, most published research is not freely accessible, which limits the potential impact of science. Open science, which aims to make the research process more open and reproducible, has been proposed as one approach to increase the credibility and impact of scientific research. Although relatively little attention has been paid to open science in relation to single-case design, we propose that open-science practices can be applied to enhance the credibility and impact of single-case design research. In this article, we discuss how open-science practices align with other recent developments in single-case design research, describe four prominent open-science practices (i.e., preregistration, registered reports, data and materials sharing, and open access), and discuss potential benefits and limitations of each practice for single-case design.

Elementary-age students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tend to experience more challenges and demonstrate lower homework completion as compared with peers without IEPs. Parent involvement in homework can significantly improve a child's homework achievement, but little research has examined the factors associated with higher levels of homework involvement for parents of children with IEPs. Using the 2016 Parent and Family Involvement survey, weighted hierarchical ordinal logistic regression analysis was implemented to determine how a child's IEP status, parents' demographic characteristics, school-level variables, and parents' expectations predicted parents' odds of helping their child with homework. Results indicated parents' race and income, along with school communication, parent satisfaction, and the interaction between a child's IEP status and parents' expectations predicted parents' likelihood of involvement in their child's homework. The implications of these findings and future directions are discussed.

Women of Color faculty continue to experience many challenges in their careers, especially in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. As such, more research is needed that considers structural issues inhibiting their success. Using structuration theory and critical race feminism as a conceptual framework, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 19 faculty and administrators in STEM departments at higher education institutions to investigate their perceptions of structural impediments impacting early-career Women of Color STEM faculty careers. Our findings revealed the need to establish policies that are clear, documented, and transparent. Additionally, incremental approaches to tenure and promotion evaluations should be reconsidered, especially when this approach may position Women of Color faculty to appear as if they are underperforming, when the opposite may be true. Furthermore, as higher education institutions endeavor to diversify the professoriate, this study is significant in enabling institutions and STEM departments to be aware of systemic issues confronting them to make significant inroads in retaining and advancing Women of Color faculty in these disciplines.

The purpose of this study was to explore parents' perspectives about the special education process during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample consisted of Spanish-speaking and English-speaking parents (N = 102) of children receiving special education services. Results indicated that language (English or Spanish), but not household income or parental education, was significantly associated with whether or not a child was receiving special education services during COVID-19, such that English-speaking parents were more likely to report that their child was receiving services relative to Spanish-speaking parents. The same predictors along with consideration of culture were used to examine the level of challenge children experience with online special education services. Language and consideration of one's culture were significantly associated with the level of challenge children experienced when receiving online special education services, in which Spanish-speaking parents and parents who perceived that the IEP team rarely considered their child's culture reported having more difficulty. Qualitative responses suggested that most parents were worried about their children regressing in academic gains. Preliminary results emphasize the need for understanding the perspectives of parents in navigating special education services to enhance equity in service access.

The health, economic, and social challenges associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) present a range of threats to students' well-being, psychoeducational experiences, and outcomes, spurring fears for a "lost generation." In this article, we present COVID-19 as a large-scale multisystemic disaster causing massive disruptions and losses, with adversities moderated by the intersectional nature of systemic inequity. We first synthesize the broad effects of COVID-19 as they relate to equity and social justice, followed by the major implications for students and schools, with a focus on intersectional systemic issues. We then propose foundational considerations and resources intended to usher a paradigm shift in how school psychologists' roles and activities are conceptualized in the years to come, ending with key imperatives for practice and graduate education in school psychology.

Class-wide behavioral interventions are a feasible and effective method to support the behavior of all students. In six peer-reviewed studies, Tootling, a class-wide intervention that combines positive peer reporting with an interdependent group contingency, has increased positive peer reports and academically engaged behavior (AEB), and decreased disruptive behavior (DB). However, no prior studies have been conducted with middle school students, and none have employed strategies to promote enduring behavior change. A withdrawal design with maintenance phase, implemented across two middle school classrooms, found moderate effects (nonoverlap of all pairs [NAP] = 0.74, Tau-U = -0.48) of Tootling on decreasing DB and moderate to large effects (NAP = 0.76, Tau-U = 0.68) on increasing AEB, although internal threats to validity prevented the demonstration of a clear functional relationship across both classrooms. Results from the maintenance phase, in which the group contingency reward was removed, suggest promising strategies to support durable behavioral change. Limitations of the present study, directions for future research, social validity, and implications for practice are discussed.
